It may have been the year of Rihanna's Fenty Puma creepers and '90s-inspired chokers, but when it came to fashion, one item reigned supreme: the bomber jacket.

According to new data from Google, searches for bomber jackets have been on the rise for the past few years but surged in cities across the U.S. and UK in 2016. Shoppers didn't look for just any military-inspired jacket. Google reports that "spring-ready" styles were popular, noting that materials like satin and silk in addition to floral patterns and embroidery were some of the specifics people sought out.

In fact, bomber jackets were so popular that the average price of a women's style dropped $25, from $129.99 in 2015 to $105.54 in 2016, according to Edited. And while prices went down, the styles available were more plentiful than ever. Edited also reports that over 61,000 bomber jackets for men, women, and children launched in the U.S. and UK alone over the past 12 months, with Yoox in the lead for most stock. Farfetch, ASOS, House of Fraser, and Walmart are the other top retailers that kept bomber jackets in stock all year long.

It looks like Gigi and Kendall were ahead of the trend last December when the two sported matching jackets. Now the question is what will next year's major fashion trend be?
