When it comes to wedding prep, there's nothing wrong with dedicating a portion of your budget to getting your skin health in check. What bride isn't looking for clear, glowy skin on their wedding day? Ahead of her recent wedding, we asked Montarna Pitt (née McDonald) to chronicle her prep in the lead up to her big day, from six months out until the day before.
Below, in her own words, Montarna takes us through her detailed beauty routine leading up to her wedding.
"In general, I like to keep things pretty simple with my beauty routine. Having said this, as I got closer to the wedding I became much more interested in my skin and body, what worked for me and what didn’t. I realised how important gut health is and how it affected everything in my body, and this guided by self-care up to the big day. Now I totally understand the sentiment ‘beauty comes from within’."

I was still quite relaxed about my skincare routine at this stage. Daily I was cleansing using a sensitive skin serum, moisturising and using sunscreen. I tried to fit in regular facials at Rationale as well as a monthly Omnilux light treatment, and I was always partial to a Sunday self-care mask—I’d mix these up depending on what was going on with my skin.
I also started using mineral make-up to help with congestion.
With six months to go I knew I needed to start exercising and wasn’t sure what I wanted to commit to, so I tried out different Pilates studios and gave spin classes a whirl.
I also started drinking two to three liters of water a day to stay hydrated and boost the hydration in my skin.
This is when I realised the wedding was a blink away and it was GO time! As it really takes a good three months for a skin routine to kick in and for me to see the results.
I decided to commit to the Rationale Essential 6 regimen and then added in other products I always used. I made sure I didn’t miss my monthly facial appointments at Rationale and started going for fortnightly Omnilux light treatment sessions at The Parlour Room in Clovelly.
I committed to KX Pilates and tried to fit in 3-4 classes a week after the office—so hard to tear myself away from emails but it had to be done! I discovered infrared saunas at La Porte Space (a friend recommended them when I was hit by an awful cold) and became obsessed with my weekly sessions.
I started mixing The Beauty Chef Collagen Inner Beauty Boost into my water daily and also began to incorporate a teaspoon of its Glow Powder into my daily porridge, helping my skin and my gut.

I continued with the beauty routine I’d established at three months and also started going to Venustus in Sydney's Paddington for a weekly consultation with owner Jeannie Bourke and massage therapist Kayo. She gave me the most amazing massages to rebalance; these were such a big part of my mental and physical preparation—running a business is full on and I carry tension in my shoulders so Kayo worked her magic on them, plus it gave me some peaceful time to myself. A total lifesaver. This is something that I recommend to anyone, some people can be hard on themselves for taking time out for THEM, but I can’t express the importance of doing things like getting a massage or doing an exercise class to look after your body to help yourself relax and recharge.
One month out I discovered the Nuface Trinity Device and started giving myself home facials every night before bed. This was such an amazing find—I noticed improvements within a couple of weeks.
This is also when Mia Hawkswell and I did my bridal trial make-up.
One week out I kept my routine the same as one month out, but I stepped up the Pilates to daily as I found it not only a great work out, but a chance to unwind and have some offline time.
Bit of bride’s drama—I had an allergic reaction to a new spray tan product (not my wisest decision to experiment one week out from the wedding!), broke out in hives and had to go to the doctors to calm things down. Tried not to let stress and emotions overwhelm me and turned to Rodan + Fields Soothe Regimen which miraculously cleared it up in a few days.
I had my final facial at Rationale and had a much-needed glam day at The Parlour Room to prepare for the wedding. Eight days out I did a full head of foils and had a haircut with Tarryn from MOB Hair—my go to hair stylist.
I found it hard at this time of year to switch off from work and focus on the wedding, so having all of these appointments lined up well in advance was great as it kept me busy and away from the office.
I actually became a total bath addict at this stage, I’ve always loved a long hot soak but these became my little moment of calm at the end of hectic days and helped me stay focused and relaxed.

As our wedding was in the Hunter Valley, we had already left Sydney and I spent the day before the wedding with my bridesmaids and my mum at one of my favourite lunch spots—Bistro Molines.
The night before I took a bath and did my favourite face mask, drinking a load of water and getting an early night with the girls and Elliot [Garnaut, part of Pitt's bridal party] to be refreshed for the big day.”
