In the world of fashion, there are two kinds of people who seem to be endlessly multiplying: bloggers and models. The latter group is comprised of so many nameless, beautiful faces that it can be nearly impossible to keep up, but every now and then there's a new model so strong that we can't help but sit up and take notice.
Enter: Martha Hunt. The 25-year-old North Carolina native, since landing her first big modeling gig with Victoria's Secret in 2012, has been gaining more and more traction in the fashion world. Her latest coup: a starring role with Aussie swimwear brand Seafolly. The last model to blow up after starring in a Seafolly campaign? None other than our beloved Miranda Kerr.
Keep scrolling for eight questions with the model, and to learn why she's about to be the next big thing!
You've shown the world that swimwear and lingerie is your strong suit. What else do you want to pursue in your modeling career?
I definitely don’t think I've stopped at swim and lingerie, but that’s a great bonus. There are other clothing campaigns I’ve done, and I want to venture into beauty and cosmetics. It’s something I feel passionate about, taking care of your skin, and doing your face and hair. Hopefully I’ll go more in that direction.
What's your favorite part of being a model?
Having the opportunity to travel the world. I’m from a really small town in North Carolina. I used to watch movies, and wonder why I was just stuck in one small place when there was so much out there to see. I’ve definitely fulfilled my dream already in that way. I’ve gotten to adapt to so many cultures and meet so many kinds of people. Also, I'm glad I've had the opportunity to be creative at work.
How did you get discovered initially?
When I was 14, I went to a model search in North Carolina. A lot of people convinced me to sign up. I won it, and there was a photographer there who introduced me to agencies in New York. My parents were really worried and wanted to keep me in school, so I started small. I didn’t focus solely on modeling until I graduated high school.
How did the Victoria's Secret job come about?
I think they wanted to meet with me. I started working with them in the beginning of 2012. Last year was my first time walking in their show; just recently, I’ve just launched in the windows of their stores.
And what was it like walking in the VS Fashion Show for the first time?
It was more nerve-racking building up to that day. Taking care of yourself, making sure your body looks right. Once the day of the show arrived, I was just so excited to enjoy the day as much as I possibly could.
How do you prepare for a big appearance like that? Any diet secrets you can share?
I think I just stick to eating a well-rounded diet. I don’t cut out anything; if I crave something, I eat it. But I definitely try to stick to a balanced diet always. I stick to lots of protein and veggies, and try not to eat so many carbs even though carbs are my favorite. I eat healthy things like quinoa, and I add fresh juices to my diet to get extra vitamins.
Do you have any supermodels you look up to and whose careers you want to emulate?
Yes! Christy Turlington. She’s a timeless beauty, and I really love what she represents about health and wellness, and taking care of yourself and your environment. Carolyn Murphy also, she’s been a personal mentor of mine and I really look up to her.
What can we expect from you in the near future?
The holiday commercial I just filmed with Victoria's Secret was so much fun! We filmed that in L.A., but we made it look like London. It was so great to work with Michael Bay, he really knows what he’s doing. I did this shoot for Vogue Spain that will be coming out in a couple months, modeling a beautiful knitwear collection.
