If you're in search of a new coffee table book (of epic proportions), then you're in luck. The highly anticipated book, The Essential Marilyn Monroe, will officially be available for purchase come Sunday. In its pages, you'll find over 250 stunning (some never before seen) photographs of one of Hollywood's most iconic stars—Marilyn Monroe.
The book provides an intimate look into her life, in large part because the man behind the lens, Milton H. Greene, was a close friend of the actress. From film sets to the privacy of her own home, the images shine a light on the many facets of Marilyn's life.
One photograph, in particular, is considered to be one of the rarest of them all. Marilyn, set against a black backdrop and clothed in what appears to be a black robe, seemingly disappears into the background, only her legs, hands, and face visible. And after it was published in Look Magazine, it was never seen again—until now.
While the photographs were taken by Milton H. Greene, they were actually restored and cataloged by his son, Joshua Greene. Through his efforts, Joshua has created a lasting tribute (20 years in the making) to the work of his father, as well as his father's greatest muse, Marilyn.
