If you're a Madewell fan and aren't complaining about the '90s resurgence, we think we found your collaboration from heaven. The brand has teamed up with iconic '90s designer Daryl K on a rock 'n' roll–inspired, limited-edition collection that is available today.
"I've always wanted to fully explore denim, and the Madewell collab was the perfect opportunity," designer Daryl Kerrigan told Who What Wear of her decision to collaborate with the brand. "I love the way Madewell experiments with all the different types and nuances of denim fabrications and how they do it in a a current, fashion-y direction."
Though Daryl K is best known for her '90s aesthetic, she turned to a different decade for inspiration for the collection: the '70s. "I was very inspired by the '70s, The Runaways, faded denim flares, logo T-shirts, and customized jean jackets," she told us.
She also cites Sonic Youth's Kim Gordon as a major influence. "Kim was one of my very first customers," she told us. "She’s been a fan since the '90s when she discovered the store in the East Village—we could hang out and chat all the time, and there was a lot of mutual admiration: I loved her music, and she loved my clothes! I made many custom pieces for her to wear on stage."
