When you share genetic make-up with Kate Moss, part ruler of the fashion circuit and one of the most famous faces of our time, covet-worthy campaigns and editorial features are likely part of your destiny. At least that’s the case for her half-sister, Lottie Moss. In recent years, the budding model has racked up her fair share of projects, beginning with a Calvin Klein campaign in 2014 and later including appearances in Dazed, Teen Vogue, and W magazine, to name a few. And that’s not all—she also nabbed her very first Vogue Paris cover this past April.
In the wake of her new PacSun denim campaign, we caught up with the British beauty to learn about the latest addition to her portfolio.
Ahead, the younger Moss reveals her favorite pair of jeans from the PacSun line and predicts which denim style will be the most popular this fall.
WHO WHAT WEAR: Congratulations on your latest campaign with PacSun! What can you tell us about this collaboration and the concept behind your shoot?
LOTTIE MOSS: It’s a cool project—shooting denim in a fresh and urban way with young talent. The pieces are relevant and easy to wear—they don’t need to work too hard.
WWW: What did you enjoy most about posing alongside fashion influencer Luka Sabbat?
LM: Luka is a very cool guy; he’s also very cute! We hung out on the shoot and had a lot of fun.
WWW: If you could only choose one pair of jeans from the collection to wear for the rest of your life, which ones would they be and why?
LM: Probably the skinnies with the faded patches—they have a good attitude, which I need my denim to have.
WWW: What do you consider the most flattering denim style?
LM: For me, it’s definitely skinny, although at times it has to be boyfriend, too. I can’t choose just one; it depends on how I feel and where I’m going.
WWW: Who’s your denim fashion icon?
LM: I have a few absolute favorite iconic denim fashion moments, and for me, some of the most iconic moments are from Calvin Klein—Brooke Shields’s 1980s campaign and Kate [Moss] and Marky Mark’s 1992 campaign. I love Cindy Crawford’s denim moment in her Pepsi commercial from the ’90s. And one of my all-time favorite fashion icons is Jane Birkin; the way she wore denim throughout the ’60s and ’70s was sophisticated and feminine but also very strong. Denim never goes out of fashion.
WWW: What do you think will be the most popular style this fall?
LM: I think for A/W 16, it will continue to be the skinny jeans. They’re such a flattering shape and work well with boots of all lengths and height. Skinny jeans also look great with knitwear and leather jackets.
WWW: The collection includes two “mom jean” styles, a shape that has gotten a bad rap in the past. What do you think is key to styling these jeans so they feel cool and current?
LM: For me, denim is all about shape and silhouette, so the rule is balance—if you have a wider pair of denim on, then “max” the shape with a smaller top.
WWW: What is your biggest denim do and don’t?
LM: It’s all about proportions. You can mix up colors and texture, but make sure your top and bottom proportions work; denim needs to flatter and accentuate.
WWW: If you could raid any other model of the moment’s closet, who would it be and why?
LM: It’s so hard to choose just one model’s closet; there are so many stylish models and great style icons. I recently met Kendall Jenner at the Fendi anniversary event in Rome, and she was so sweet and looked very chic and elegant, and I could easily raid her wardrobe. I’m also regularly scanning the internet to see what Jourdan Dunn, Hailey Baldwin, and Bella Hadid are wearing, and I’ve always loved Kate’s style.
WWW: Who are some people in the fashion industry you’re dying to work with but haven’t yet had the opportunity to?
LM: I have worked with some incredible people already, and I know I am very fortunate to work in the fashion industry and to experience all the opportunities I have. There are some key fashion brands I would love to work with, like Chanel, Louis Vuitton, Gucci, and Burberry. Of course I loved shooting with Emmanuelle Alt and French Vogue and would really like to do more shoots with UK, Italian, and French Vogue again, not to mention Love and W mag. There are some really talented photographers like Nick Knight, Mario Testino, David Sims, Alasdair McLellan, all incredibly inspiring and visionaries. I would love to work with them.
