If there were an award for most fashion cameos in a single movie, we think Absolutely Fabulous: The Movie just might take the cake. The flick is chock-full of famous faces, including Stella McCartney, Vivienne Westwood, Alexa Chung, and lots of other banner names. Our favorite appearance, however, has to be Kate Moss's. And now thanks to The New York Times's new interview with the costume designer, we have the fascinating backstory behind her onscreen outfit.
Stylist Rebecca Hale told the newspaper about how her outfit was inspired by something Johnny Depp bought her. "For Kate Moss, I really wanted her to look just like herself," Hale told NYT. "So I went to her house, and we discussed everything, the different parts she would be playing and the different scenes she would be in. I said, 'We need to have a really great dress that we can replicate eight times.' … And she said, 'One of my favorite dresses is a dress Johnny Depp gave me when I was 21.'"
Hale went on to describe the dress as being a backless sequined number with a simple shape. All signs point to the dress being the one Moss wore to the Golden Globes in 1995 with none other than Depp as her date. They simply punched up the color and re-created it for the movie—et voilà! You've got a winning look that will go down in film history.
