A common pitfall of winter dressing is that cold-weather ensembles have a tendency to look heavy. Once suited up in thick materials, multiple layers, and mismatched silhouettes, even the savviest of dressers can appear bundled-up to a fault. Leave it to Karlie Kloss to prove it's possible to don three layers on a December day without looking overly adorned.
Stepping out in New York City's West Village yesterday, Kloss served up a refreshingly light take on winter layering. Her trick was working the right materials and colors into the ensemble to lighten up her look. The hero piece of her outfit was an ankle-length camel coat that infused an autumnal vibe into her winter getup. The coat's heavy-duty cotton makeup allowed the piece to come across like a classic trench, but its pocketless, beltless construction gave it a more modern feel.
Kloss layered the statement piece over zip-up jacket that hit at the waist and a long, white cotton Oxford left untucked, playing with three hem lengths in an unexpected way. She dressed down her otherwise polished ensemble with distressed denim and finished off her look with platform lace-up boots.
