Granny may not agree, but rocking a white bag or shoe in October is proof positive you’ve got your finger on the fashion pulse. Suffering from a case of trend trepidation? Let Miranda Kerr, Olivia Palermo, and more show you how it’s done.
What’s black, white, and red hot all over? Jessica Alba at Narciso Rodriguez’s S/S 14 show in New York earlier this month. To accentuate her striking dress by the designer, the actress opted for all-white accessories, including Jimmy Choo Candy Clutch ($725), Christian Louboutin heels, and matching enamel Luv AJ Plain Cuffs ($92), worn with Rona Pfeiffer Square Pave Diamon Stud Earrings ($780) in Silver and a ring by Maria Black.
It’s not exactly brain surgery but we feel compelled to state the obvious: if your outfit has white in it, feel free, nay, enthused, to coordinate with matching shoes. Here, Hailee Steinfeld paired a Bibhu Mohapatra top and skirt from the Resort 14 collection with Robert Clergerie Lullaby pumps at the Summit Entertainment Comic-Con VIP Celebration at the Hard Rock Hotel in San Diego.
At the Alexander Wang S/S 14 after party in New York , Atlanta de Cadenet brought the R rating of her leopard print crop top down to a more kid-friendly PG-13 with a pair of scuffed up sneakers. We like how the shoes take the outfit in a playful direction (and they’re certainly more sensible than stilettos when hitting the town).
The color of the driven snow (as in “pure as the…”), white lends a fresh and tidy feel to any ensemble. Case in point, Gwen Stefani’s Chanel's Boy bag, which the pop star paired with Stella McCartney sunglasses and Paige Denim jeans while shopping in Beverly Hills.
Taking a cue from Jessica Alba’s monochrome playbook, Richie was recently spotted on an L.A. shopping sojourn sporting Balmain Leather Moto Pants ($4,950), a Mugler Cropped Button Blouse ($950), and a pair of Saint Laurent Perforated Two-Tone Derby Shoes ($790). Extra style points for a shirt that reminds us of Prince in the best way.
When the actress landed at LAX earlier this month her style was still flying high thanks to a sleek Celine Luggage Mini (available in stores) and a jaunty boater hat, which also did a good job of hiding a case of possible airplane hair.
Also spotted at LAX, Miranda Kerr was the sweetness to Fanning’s rocker chick spice with a pristine Prada Saffiano Cuir Large Double-Zip Tote ($2450), white sandals, and an a floral scarf to give the ensemble a punch of color.
We’re positively dotty over the catwalker’s slouchy chic ensemble at the Viva London: Self-Portraits party in London earlier this month. Note how she styled a plain white button-down in way that smacks of schoolgirl gone bad? (Cuffs down, tail tucked out and askew.) Brilliant.
Need another reason to jump on this trend bandwagon? It’s an excuse to wear sneakers. To wit, Karlie Kloss was seen at fashion week earlier this month in a charcoal dress, Michael Kors Small Miranda Tote ($1,195) and the fashion flocks’ off-duty shoe of choice: the Converse Chuck Taylor All Stat Women’s High Top ($55).
White doesn’t have to mean vanilla. Olivia Palmero’s Rebecca Minkoff Elle Leather Satchel Bag ($595), which she toted to the Misha Nonoo S/S 14 presentation during NYFW this month, puts a tough twist on the color with silver studs and hardware.
The singer feted the launch of her River Island S/S 13 collection in London sporting a Saint Laurent checkered leather biker jacket and Stretch-Leather Skinny Pants ($2,890) and a Leather Belt ($745) also by the design house. Alas, the piece de resistance, a pair of patent leather Manolo Blahnik BB Pumps with an ankle strap ($645) is not currently available in white. Apparently, someone didn’t get the memo.
BB Patent Ballerina Flats ($275)
Siren Mini Bag ($495)
Canvas Laceup Trainers ($90)
‘Alex’ Tote ($129)
Pointed Court Shoes ($50)
Bicolor Maxi Clutch ($45)
Esther Heel ($435)
Chastity Clutch ($795)
Daithy Cone Heel Booties ($792)
