Keep it low-key

"I only had four months between getting engaged and our wedding so we didn't have an engagement party. I think there's a general trend away from them, especially for couples like us in our mid-30s. We already lived together so we didn't need a whole bunch of household gifts and also didn't want to put the pressure on loved ones to travel interstate for two events in a few months. So, the only event prior to the wedding was my ladies lunch."

Find references

"The inspiration for my wedding was Baz Luhrmann's Romeo + Juliet, as well as the Dolce & Gabbana show, so I knew I wanted something with red roses. In light of not being able to afford Dolce & Gabbana, my good friend found me a black and red dress from Zimmermann. Another friend then made me a headband of red roses (yes, I was that girl who wore a flower crown) as a nod to the 3000 red roses I was having at the wedding."

Stick with what you love

"I ended up going with a brand I love—Zimmermann—for my ladies lunch and I changed into a Mischa Collection dress for the second half of my wedding. Another brand I've always loved."

Beware of trends

"I now regret wearing a crown on my wedding day. Again, I was inspired by Dolce & Gabbana (and had it made by milliner Viktoria Novak) but it has since become such a trend that I feel a bit tired of it."
