The idea of committing to a workout plan can be overwhelming in itself, so when you add a hectic life to the mix, it almost seems pointless to even try getting on track. But don’t give up just yet. Simone De La Rue—as in the celebrity It trainer who started Body by Simone—is sharing all the inside scoop on how to find a workout that fits with your lifestyle. Whether you’re a stay-at-home mom who rarely gets out of the house or an executive who works incredibly long hours, there is a solution. De La Rue says that a lot of workout videos don’t require much equipment (including hers!), so if you’re at home for the majority of the day, it’s easy to clear some space and do something—even if that’s turning some music on and dancing around the house with your kids. “You can do dance cardio in the house, jump rope on the lawn, you can even lay a towel down on the floor and use it as a yoga mat,” she says.

People who don’t have a regular 9-to-5 job need to break up their workout so it fits with your schedule. “Try to get in 10 minutes in the morning and 10 minutes in the evening,” says De La Rue. “Sixty-second intervals of jump-roping followed by upper-body work is a great quick workout.”

Even though your schedule might be chaotic, it’s important to try to get in some sort of workout. “It’s a great stress reliever and will help calm the mind when making important decisions,” explains De La Rue. If you find that you’re always at your desk, De La Rue recommends setting your phone timer for every hour, getting up from your desk, and doing jumping jacks, squats, and lunges.

When you’re constantly traveling for work, it’s easy to make unhealthy choices. But if you’re able to make a small amount of room in your bag, De La Rue recommends packing a jump rope and resistance band because they’re light and easy to travel with and can be used for cardio and upper- and lower-body strengthening. “You can also use the desk or chair as a ballet barre and do pliés, squats, and leg lifts.”
