Last week in a picturesque suite at The Bowery Hotel, I sat down with British model Georgia May Jagger over a cup of tea (well, I had water in a teacup, but we can pretend) to discuss her partnership with jewelry brand Thomas Sabo. I was admittedly a bit overenthusiastic to meet the daughter of Mick Jagger and Jerry Hall (who wouldn’t be?), and even though as editors we interview celebrities all of the time, this particular run-in was especially exciting. Jagger casually stepped out on the terrace to meet with me in a pink Reformation dress and her signature blond waves. She was down-to-earth, sweet, and had a thing or two to say about jewelry. Scroll down to read our interview and find out what her most prized jewelry possession is, her prediction for fall’s biggest jewelry trend, and more.
WHO WHAT WEAR: What are some of your favorite jewelry pieces to wear every day?
GEORGIA MAY JAGGER: "I like rings; stacking rings, loads of different ones. I suppose I find it quite easy to sort of sleep with them on so I don’t have to take them off. I also like studs, but I’ve gotten more into hoops at the moment. I kind of think hoops are coming back a bit."
WWW: Do you have any predictions for fall jewelry trends that'll be big?
GMJ: "Well I think everything was about tiny studs and little jewelry for a while, and I think it’s the more chunky things that are going to come back. That’s just the way it is, isn’t it? It’s all cyclical. I mean I’m either like wearing loads of tiny things or … a lot of the men’s stuff that Thomas Sabo does. I sort of wear a bunch of silver chain bracelets and that sort of thing. I think layering loads of stuff is always cool."
WWW: What's your most prized jewelry possession?
GMJ: "My sister made me a necklace for her wedding that she made for all of [my sisters] because she’s a jewelry designer, so it would probably be that because we have all matching ones."
WWW: What age do you think women should start buying fine jewelry?
GMJ: "I mean, I’m kind of not super into fine jewelry because I suppose it always freaks me out to lose it, but I do like little things. [Thomas Sabo] has a collection that’s got diamonds in it. It's something that’s an investment and also it’s a really nice present that you can pass on to your kids or your siblings or whatever. So I don’t think it’s an age you have to start with, but you’ve got to try and not lose it, so you’ve got to be slightly responsible!"
WWW: Do you have a style icon who's taste in jewelry you really admire?
GMJ: "Yeah, I mean queen Elizabeth I would say. As a kid I was super obsessed with going—I still am—I love going to the V&A and looking at all the antique jewelry, so I’m always interested in that. I love all the Roman things and all that kind of stuff; it’s quite amazing because I suppose everything else kind of like dissolves in time, but jewelry, because it’s this precious metal, it stays."
