When Nicole Warne isn’t travelling the world in search of the best vintage finds for her online boutique Gary Pepper Vintage or sitting front row at the most prestigious shows during Fashion Month, the Australian native is hard at work on another passion: updating her personal style blog with artfully assembled looks. Migrating from city to city for work, Warne has become a fashion chameleon of sorts, adapting the latest trends to her current landscape, but managing to make each outfit her own with the addition of personal touches. Whether she’s going bold with head-to-toe neon, embracing feminine florals, or test-driving winter whites, Warne’s classic-meets-modern approach to dressing is never one note. Q&A with Nicole Warne Please describe your personal style.
My style is a mix between classic and clean with a preppy and playful edge. I love mixing bold colours, feminine prints, and interesting textures, and believe brighter is always better.
How does the city you live in inspire your day-to-day style?
As I live on the coastline in Australia, we're always influenced by the warm climate and our laidback beach lifestyle, so layering is kept to a bare minimum. Naturally I like to keep my outfits quite simple as I believe in the saying "less is always more," but I feel I draw most of my inspiration from European cities, like Paris or the French countryside, and even the quirky Harajuku girls in Tokyo too.
What are some of your favourite current trends?
Two-piece suits have always been a timeless staple for every woman's wardrobe, yet masculine tailoring seems to be having a moment right now. I adore seeing these suits in crisp whites and bold colours for a fresh take on such a classic outfit.
Who are some of your style icons and why?
I can't say I have just one, as they're always changing as I get older and my taste evolves. Instead, I like to draw inspiration from new experiences, the people I meet, and the places I see.
What’s the one go-to piece in your closet?
My Charlotte Olympia heels are always my most prized possessions. I can't pick just one, as my black kitty flats are the perfect balance between quirky and wearable. and my red satin heels are perfect for taking my outfits from day to night with a matching bold red lip. Charlotte Olympia's designs always keep me on my toes, that's for sure!
What are some of your favourite places to shop?
I buy a lot of my vintage jewellery and accessories from etsy.com, which is similar to eBay but only sells vintage and hand-made pieces from independent artists and designers. Brooklyn flea markets, Barneys New York, and J.Crew are essentials when I'm in New York and asos.com, shopbop.com, and NET-A-PORTER.com when I'm shopping online at midnight.
What are some of your fashion sites/blogs? Studded-Hearts.com, Oraclefox.com, and Thecherryblossomgirl.com are my go-to blogs for inspiration. I respect the creative concept and effort that consistently goes into every single post and think of them more as visual diaries full of inspiring photography and life.
