If you're at all plugged into the music world at the moment, you've probably heard the name FKA Twigs bounced around more than a few times recently. That's because the British-born artist (née Tahliah Barnett) just released her first full-length album, appropriately called LP 1, to some seriously rave reviews. And for good reason—it's amazing.
And the music world isn't the only sphere catching onto her awesomeness—Twigs has also been shot by fashion photography greats Inez & Vinoodh for Dazed magazine, worked with fashion industry-loved director Nabil for her last video, and much more.

She earned her nickname, "Twigs," because of how her bones creak and pop when she moves. When another artist called Twigs threatened to sue her if she didn't change her name, she cleverly agreed to change it to "FKA Twigs," which means "Formerly Known As Twigs."
Twigs got her start as a backup dancer; before she branched off into her own music career, she was one of the main featured dancers in Jessie J's video for "Do It Like A Dude." Twigs has long resented being recognized in public as "that girl in that music video," so she wrote a song about it on LP 1, called "Video Girl."
As an artist still on the rise, Twigs is very appreciative and supportive of her growing fan base. "I know many of my fans are creative people," she said at a recent concert in Los Angeles. "I just want to say, keep following your journey. And don't let anyone get you down."
Notoriously critical music blog Pitchfork gave FKA Twigs an extremely coveted score of 8.8/10 for her debut album release, and labeled it "Best New Music."
She opts for a vintage kimono over a black jumpsuit when invited to sit front row at Jean Paul Gaultier's haute couture show.
She still posts videos of her rehearsing in the dance studio to her Instagram account, thus proving that she's just as talented at dancing as she is at singing.
