For the uninitiated, Zendaya will play Athena in Christopher Nolan’s upcoming action blockbuster, so it should come as no surprise that her ensembles will be inundated with ethereal silhouettes and colours inspired by the Peloponnese.

To commence the press tour, the actress opted for a heavenly look from Khaite’s Resort 2027 collection. Rendered in a cloud-white colour palette, the silhouette consisted of an airy white blouse, a tie-up leather belt, and an asymmetrical belt.

However, what seemed to pique interest the most was her choice of footwear. Though we’d equally gush over her if she wore lace-up gladiator sandals—we suspect she’s saving reviving this millennial trend for one of the movie’s premieres—she instead took a more subdued route by bringing back another equally controversial shoe.

Ever since I got engaged last year, I've become a jewelry snob. I'm Who What Wear's unofficial fine jewelry reporter, and my Instagram and Pinterest saves are all kinds of wacky jewelry trends I write about and shop for myself.

Lately, though, I've found myself gravitating toward diamonds that aren't demanding all of your attention. You know the kind—less blinding sparkle, more of a soft, candlelit glow that feels quietly expensive. That's exactly the appeal of Georgian-set diamonds, a centuries-old style that's suddenly back on my radar and, honestly, my wish list.

The technique dates back to the Georgian era in the United Kingdom, when jewelry was designed to be worn in low light (read: dinner parties lit by chandeliers, not LEDs). Instead of the super-precise, ultra-exposed settings we see today, diamonds were set into gold collets in the 18th and 19th centuries throughout the Georgian period. The setting is reminiscent of a modern-day bezel but has a bit more structure. "It’s been so much fun to collaborate with Law and the On team on these essentials,” said Zendaya in the press release.

Euphoria season 3 is finally here. Returning on April 12, the latest season (and rumoured last) is set five years into the future, where our favourite protagonists have traded school hallways for lives far more high-stakes. Maddy and Lexi have left the dusty streets of Southern California behind in pursuit of Hollywood's glitz and glamour. Nate and Cassie are somehow married? (I know, I was shocked too). He appears to be grappling with a newfound Matthieu Blazy-era Bottega Veneta addiction, whilst Cassie is carving a name for herself as an OnlyFans creator. If that doesn't seem chaotic enough, Trisha Paytas is somehow in the mix.

If you can’t tell, I’m a massive fan; tuning in for the dark and messy storylines which toe the line between eerily relatable and completely outrageous has become one of my favourite pastimes. Over the years, so many moments have become TikTok-trending sounds, leaving us wondering, in the words of Maddy, "Is this play about us?" But for me, as fashion editor, it's the outfits that have always piqued my attention the most.

What I’ve always adored about the looks in Euphoria is just how many aesthetics coexist within one friendship group (much like in reality), although, unlike most of our friends and us, they tend to have a luxury, designer-led twist. Take Alexia Demie’s Maddy Perez; she's your textbook fashion girl. Successfully making everything work, from Balenciaga to Amina Muaddi, she’s always been an It girl, serving looks we adore. Then we have the preppy polish of Maude Apatow’s Lexi Howard; naturally, Miu Miu is her best friend. Even Zendaya’s Rue has worn her fair share of (vintage) designer pieces, including a Jean Paul Gaultier vest and vintage Roberto Cavalli pants.

The first two seasons are well documented in costume designer Heidi Bivens's book with A24, Euphoria Fashion, in which she breaks down the looks and aesthetics that are so central to the show's characterisation, but this season, we're starting to feel rumblings of something new. From Rue's desert whites to Maddie's opulent fur jacket, there's a refreshed energy to the show's fashion for the third season. I've been a beauty editor for a decade, so I'm aware that makeup artists use tricks of the trade to make their clients' skin look incredible for big events and award shows. This time of the year is my favourite time to spot hair trends. Over the past couple of months, we've had the awards season, fashion month and a flurry of premieres and red carpet moments, all of which are the perfect fodder for us beauty editors to spot the next big beauty trends. What Is the Elfin Bob?

I first spotted it on Gracie Abrams' BAFTA hair look. It's not quite a pixie cut, and not quite a bob haircut. The elfin bob marries the two together, featuring the impish silhouette of a pixie cut with the longer length of a cropped bob haircut that still allows you to wear it tucked behind the ears. It's easily one of the chicest short haircuts I've seen this year, with celebrities such as Zendaya and Iris Law wearing this elegant yet cool-girl cut. Tinkerbell, eat your heart out.

Iris Law has long worn her hair in an elfin style, and celebrity hairstylist Luke Hersheson recently cut it for the Fendi show. “I cut Iris' hair into a short elfin cut—even though it’s short, there are so many ways to style and wear this cut—it’s super versatile," says Hersheson. "I smothered her hair in Almost Everything Cream (£20) and drew a low, deep parting while creating a modern kiss curl on her forehead, inspired by Josephine Baker of the '20s—we made it very subtle so it’s more of a nod to the era but still felt modern and fresh," he says.

How to Style It

As we all know by now, Zendaya never makes the obvious fashion choice. She continuously keeps us guessing—both on and off the red carpet. And the airport is about as off the red carpet as it gets. Zendaya was photographed heading into JFK Airport this weekend, and instead of wearing something easy and obvious, such as leggings and sneakers, she chose a chic, elegant skirt-and-flats combination for her flight.

Comfort should be of the utmost importance when flying, so not just any skirt and flats will do. As much as we love it when Zendaya pulls out all the stops in the dressing department, those instances when she wears something classic and timeless are just as impressive and inspiring. The actress—who is currently in Rome doing press for her film The Drama, costarring Robert Pattison—recently debuted one of the latter, donning a black suit by the Milanese made-to-measure brand Francesco Murano with a sculptural white shirt and her signature Christian Louboutin So Kate heels (100 millimeters, of course). Though her look, worn at Piazza del Campidoglio in the Italian capital, had its artistic touches, it included a white shirt, a black blazer and trousers, and pumps—a sophisticated combination that stands the test of time.

Specifically, her black trousers and stiletto heels immediately caught our attention. I think we can all agree that if Zendaya wears something, it's cool. She's a celebrity who just has that power. She wears everything with confidence and has proven herself to have an innate sense of style over the years. It's not just her outfits for red carpets and events I'm referring to. Zendaya's off-duty looks are just as successful.

Over the weekend, while shopping with her brother in Beverly Hills, Zendaya wore a pair of billowy white pleated pants (I stared long and hard at them and concluded that they're pants, not a skirt) with a black ruched top. It was a striking, elegant look, but my eyes still went straight to her feet. On them were a pair of Dansko clogs in black leather and white crew socks. Yes, Dansko clogs, the comfortable shoes inspired by Danish clogs that healthcare workers and chefs wear on the job. But there's something very chic and cool about wearing unexpected, functional shoes with an outfit that you'd expect to be worn with the exact opposite. In 2017, The New York Times published a piece about Dansko clogs entitled "In Praise of an Aggressively Unfashionable Shoe". The fan base has clearly long been there, but can Zendaya be the one to finally make Dankso clogs unlikely It shoes? If anyone can, it's her. Plus, clogs have made a comeback, so there's that. (I'd be remiss not to mention that Zendaya changed into patent-leather flats to go to dinner with Tom Holland later, but that's neither here nor there.)

As much as it pains me to admit it, I think my days of wearing short shorts are over. I will, however, reflect fondly on my many trips to buy them at American Eagle in high school. If you're anything like me, you watched the Oscars red carpet like a hawk, waiting for Zendaya to arrive, only to be sorely disappointed that she was a no-show. Over three hours into the ceremony, however, Zendaya surprised everyone and strolled onto the stage to present Paul Thomas Anderson with the top directing award.

Time to blast Lily Allen’s “West End Girl” as every stylish Londoner has descended in South Kensington this evening for the annual Fashion Awards. Hosted at the palatial Royal Albert Hall, the yearly festivity celebrates the best and brightest in British style, including nascent names like talent incubator and collective Fashion East and notable stalwarts like Simone Rocha and Sarah Burton.

And whilst the red carpet is always an opportunity to showcase the craftsmanship and creative imaginations of the industry’s finest, it’s also a moment to prove that simplicity and accessibility will always reap dividends, at least that is what it seems at the 2025 edition.

Indeed, Industry star Marisa Abela arrived on the pink carpet this evening wearing quite a pared-back ensemble compared to her fellow attendees in the form of a crisp white shirt, drop-diamond choker, textured fur trousers and cream pumps. Her devotion to wearing winter whites—especially as the actress is a newlywed after all—amid the freezing temperatures is commendable in its own right, but it was really her eschewing the lavish looks that these events often demand that really piqued my interest

In fact, her white shirt could easily be something her on-screen character, Yasmin Kara-Hanani, wears to the Pierpoint offices, showcasing that the best red carpet looks are usually the most effortless.

This is a detail levelled time and time again in Hollywood, with Abela joining an array of film starlets and fashion it-girls who’ve opted for this wardrobe staple for high-profile moments.

At the 2022 Academy Awards, Zendaya referenced a look by Sharon Stone to the 1998 Oscars by replicating the star’s satin lavender Vera Wang skirt with her own Valentino iteration. (Talk about a basic instinct.)

A few years earlier, in 1995, Carolyn Bessette-Kennedy wore a tuxedo-style shirt and mermaid cut black pencil skirt by Yohji Yamamoto to a gala held at the Whitney Museum of American Art, starting this canon of stylish and aspirational ensembles.

Each of these looks are certainly covetable in its own right, but what’s most impressive is the fact that all it takes to emulate them is a piece you can easily pick up at the likes of M&S, Zara or H&M.

It’s true, one walk down the King's Road or scroll through these brands’ online stores, and you’ll be confronted with many well-made and Savile Row-inspired shirts that will cost you less than the average dinner out in London. If there was one phrase to sum up the past year, it would be the title of Charli XCX and Caroline Polacheck’s 2024 single, “Everything Is Romantic”. The song, which was featured in the teaser trailer for Emerald Fennell’s Wuthering Heights, croons about falling in love again and again and has since gone viral on social media after its initial release on the British singer’s magnum opus album, Brat.

Love, clearly, is in the air, and given this collective mood coincides with Who What Wear UK’s 10th anniversary celebration, there’s never been a better time to look back on the stylish pairings that best embrace this. Indeed, there have been countless best-dressed celebrity couples vying for the crown throughout the course of our small but mighty history. Here on home soil, we have duos like Sienna Miller and Oli Green, Rosie Huntington-Whiteley and Jason Statham and Alexa Chung and Tom Sturridge, all of whom make London’s vibrant fashion scene all the more exciting when they step out.

Across the pond, there are established relationships like Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce and Lily-Rose Depp and 070 Shake, who prove that affairs of the heart are closely intertwined with those of the style variety. Of course, there are also emerging love stories, like the one between Lana Del Rey and alligator wrangler husband Jeremy Dufrene or Bella Hadid and her real-life cowboy Adan Banuelos, who constantly keep us on our toes with the way they radically dress to their own accord for their outings. Still, some couples are just that cut above the rest.

Whilst it would’ve been lovely to include notable past looks like John F. Kennedy Jr. and Carolyn Bessette-Kennedy, we’ve limited it to the relationships that only took place whilst Who What Wear UK has been in existence. A date night for this couple includes heading to the annual Met Gala and flaunting their excellent taste at Santa Monica’s star-studded Italian restaurant, Giorgio Baldi. The rapper and the self-proclaimed bad gal Riri really do it like no other.

Style Notes: Posh and Becks have a relationship straight out of a British fairytale. But instead of star-crossed lovers and evil step-mothers, you have an upstart Premier League star from Manchester, a global pop sensation from nearby Essex and a love that’s spanned over twenty years. Even though a decade in life can seem to pass by in an instant, in fashion and culture terms, a decade is a long time. With internet culture moving as fast as it does, and the sheer volume of events—not only on the red carpet but on the runways with so many international fashion weeks—it's unsurprisingly that hardly a week can go by without a hot topic to share or gossip about.

When considering the most iconic moments in fashion in the last 10 years, there are plenty to choose from. The Met Gala on the first Monday in May always presents itself with some of the most talked about celebrity outfits. Who understood the theme and nailed it? Who missed the mark completely (remember when Katy Perry went as a hamburger?). Met Ball aside, the red carpet at the Academy Awards, Cannes Film Festival and more movie premiers serve looks worth talking about long after the films screening ends.

Outside of Hollywood, there's the usual fashion week calendar, which can promise some major model debuts and celebrity sightings—it was just in September we saw the cast of The Devil Wears Prada 2 (in character) at the Dolce & Gabbana show in Milan, can it get more iconic than that? On top of all this, I've also considered the biggest 'movements' or trends in the last 10 years. From millennial pink to logomania, to the rise of streetwear and the more recent Y2K renaissance, these trends made a huge impact not only on how we dress, but how we consume culture and, to an extent, live our lives. But more on that further below.

And without further adieu, these are the 10 most iconic moments between 2015-2025.

1. The Devil Wears Prada at Milan Fashion Week

Two decades after the film's release, watching the cast of The Devil Wears Prada 2 at Milan Fashion Week (filming scenes for the much awaited sequel) felt perfectly full circle. Seeing Meryl Streep and Stanley Tucci seated front row at Dolce & Gabbana's Milan Fashion Week show sent social media into overdrive. It wasn't just nostalgia; it was a reminder that fashion, at its best, tells stories that last far longer than a single season.

2. Rihanna's 'Omelette' Dress

When Rihanna stepped onto the Met Gala red carpet in Guo Pei's show-stopping yellow gown, the world collectively stopped scrolling. The look, which was nicknamed the "omelette dress", was pure theatre: a 55-pound couture creation that transformed the Met steps into a royal runway. It wasn't just a fashion moment; it was a declaration that red carpet dressing could be art, spectacle, and self-expression all at once.

3. Brat Girl Summer

Charli XCX's BRAT era ushered in a new wave of raw, chaotic glamour. The look—marked by slick hair, statement eyeliner, low-slung everything and most importantly green—wasn't about being polished. It was about attitude. In a year defined by pop culture maximalism, BRAT became more than an album aesthetic, it became a shorthand for a mood.

After years of logo-heavy fashion, 2023 was all about understatement. Think The Row coats, Toteme tailoring and Jennifer Lawrence in simple linen trousers that felt quietly confident. The focus was on quality, not quantity, a subtle rebellion against the constant need to stand out.

By 2021, the return of low-rise jeans, baby tees and rhinestone everything had officially taken over. Influencers channelled early-2000s Paris Hilton and Nicole Richie, reviving a wardrobe once dismissed as a guilty pleasure. It marked a shift towards playful, self-aware dressing—proof that sometimes, the trends we once left behind are the ones we end up missing most.

8. Zendaya's Mugler Fembot Look

Zendaya's appearance in the archival Mugler fembot suit for the Dune: Part Two premiere reminded everyone why she's fashion's most compelling dresser. 10. Billy Porter Oscars Tuxedo dress

Billy Porter's velvet tuxedo gown by Christian Siriano in 2019 redefined what red carpet dressing could look like. The contrast of structured tailoring and sweeping skirt sparked a global conversation about boundaries in fashion. It was confident, powerful and beautifully unapologetic; proof that the best style moments are the ones that make us question the rules.

It's that time of year when everyone is either lamenting the end of summer or anxiously awaiting fall's arrival. If you're in the former category, perhaps discussing a chic autumnal shoe trend will help get you excited for the next few months. Today, we're not talking about just any old celebrity-approved footwear choice—we're reporting on shoes worn by the one and only Zendaya. She was recently photographed in London wearing a pair of Maison Margiela loafers in the color trend that comes roaring back into style every fall, without exception: burgundy.

I have no doubt that burgundy shoes will be hugely popular come fall, but you don't have to take my word for it. I recently interviewed acclaimed stylist Karla Welch, who predicts that burgundy will be the most dominant color trend next season. I'm definitely biased, but I think tennis is the most stylish sport. Top-ranked players wear Miu Miu skirts and Rolex watches, and spectators are often dressed like they've walked out of a Ralph Lauren ad. This is true for all four of the Grand Slam tournaments each year, but nowhere is the convergence of fashion and tennis more apparent than at Wimbledon.

On court, players are required to adhere to the tournament's strict all-white dress code, but they still find ways to make fashion statements. In 2025, for instance, Coco Gauff wore an intricate white dress by New Balance. "It's incredible the embroidery work they designed for that dress," says Sunita Kumar Nair, author of the new book Ace: The Times & Style of Tennis. "It's kind of like British punk and Vivienne Westwood and rock and roll and all the things that Coco likes. It's so detailed. It's like couture."

"I think there is a really strong argument that performance design is very close to couture," Kumar Nair continues. "The fabrics are tried and tested, and it's a really big journey for the athlete. The outfits can take a year to design." My favorite fashion moment included in Ace is Roger Federer's cream-colored cable-knit cardigan with gold trim, which he wore to Wimbledon in 2008. By the time he removed the sweater to hit his first serve, he had already solidified his place in tennis fashion history.

"There's a beautiful relationship between fashion designers and sports stars now, and it's just getting bigger and bigger," Kumar Nair tells Who What Wear. "I was just reading that Jack Draper has signed a $5 million deal with Vuori, and Naomi Osaka was just at the Met Gala. I think there is so much that's going to happen with the sports world and, in particular, tennis because of the kind of money that it can engender."

Wearing polka-dotted Alessandra Rich, Kate Middleton presented the Gentlemen's Singles Trophy to Novak Djokovic in 2022.

Then pregnant with her first child, Margot Robbie wore polka-dotted Alaïa to the championships in 2024.

Princess Diana wore a pastel-yellow skirt suit to the championships in 1995.

3. Varsity Sweaters

Name a more iconic cardigan—I'll wait. Federer's 2008 sweater will go down in fashion history.

Williams wore a varsity cardigan during warm-ups in 2011. She shed the extra layer once her matches started, revealing a white dress underneath.

Tim Henman—the former number one British tennis player for whom Henman Hill is named—was pictured strolling around Wimbledon between matches in a varsity sweater in 1994.

Six years before Adidas named its iconic sneakers after him, Smith hoisted the Gentlemen's Singles Trophy in 1972 wearing a varsity sweater.

Arsenal soccer star Myles Lewis-Skelly, pictured here in 2025, is also a fan of the trend.

Frank Hunter and Algernon Kingscote competed against each other at Wimbledon in 1927. Varsity sweaters have never gone out of style in the nearly 100 intervening years.

After a long evening spent in towering heels and theatrical couture, the day after the Met Gala must be devoted to comfort, and I've already spotted a shoe trend amongst some of my favourite A-list attendees. Packing up their heels, celebrities were quick to slip into Maison Margiela's Tabi Split-Toe Leather Ballet Flats (£750) after this year's event.

Clearly desperate to give their feet a break, Zendaya and Emma Chamberlain ditched their stilettos in favour of Maison Margiela's iconic (and controversial) Tabi flats on Tuesday morning. With their signature hoof-like silhouette, Tabis are undeniably divisive. Some call them avant-garde, others can’t get past the cloven-hoof design. But amongst fashion insiders? They have cult status as the ultimate "ugly shoe".

Only hours earlier, Zendaya was teetering in 150mm Jimmy Choo Max platform stilettos, whilst Chamberlain opted for a sharp pair of pointed-toe pumps—so it’s no surprise both gravitated towards something flatter (and far more forgiving) the next morning. In my line of work, skincare tips aren't hard to come by. But it is more of a rare opportunity to get said skincare tips from someone like Joomee Song. Joomee Song's Best Skincare Tips

Song has an array of products and modalities that she swears by for youthful, glowing skin, but below is her best (and most practical!) advice. It all centers on one daily practice that she listed first as the most important.

1. Practice facial massage: Song says, "Massage your face every single day. The consistency of releasing the tightness within your facial muscles will do more for you than any product or gadget can because that tightness is blocking blood flow, inhibiting collagen and elastin production. When we massage our faces every day—even for the few minutes [while] we are cleansing and moisturizing—we are giving our muscles the chance to release and our skin the opportunity to reset."

2. Commit to your routine: Your routine is only as good as your consistency level. If you don't stick with it, you might not see the results you're hoping for. "Think of yourself as being in a committed relationship with your skin," says Song. "There are no shortcuts to a long-lasting partnership, just as there are no real 'quick fixes' when it comes to caring for your skin. What's really required is time and commitment, which is why massage is so beneficial for long-term skin health. When you massage, you are connecting with not only the skin you can see but [also] everything that lies beneath the surface. You can feel when something is different or off and work through that stress or strain. More so than any product or tool, the daily communication with your skin through massage will move stagnant energy and release tension, unequivocally changing everything about your skin for the better. Remember, it's never too late to repair and rebuild your relationship with your skin. Show up, be present, and take it one day at a time."

3. Increase blood flow for a glow: While Song loves to do this through facial massage, you can also increase blood flow in the skin by using a roller device. Personally, I love my Acu Roller from The Things We Do because it's perfect for massaging the face if you don't want to use your hands. My skin definitely looks a bit red after I use it, so I know for sure it's increasing blood flow. It's also super easy to use and incorporate into your morning or evening skincare routine.

4. Before a special event, less is more: When I asked Song about how she preps her celebrity clients for a red carpet, she surprised me by saying she keeps it pretty minimal. "Believe it or not, I probably do the least on the day of a special event," she says. "My Kaika treatments are done consistently over several weeks, creating muscle memory that trains the skin to be ready to perform when it really counts. The day before, I want to take care not to aggravate or irritate the skin by using too many products. Instead, I will focus on giving that skin barrier the support it needs, using a combination of de-puffing facial-massage techniques on the areas that are of the most concern. I'll also use soothing, hydrating products to help plump the skin and minimize any redness and inflammation."

5. Beauty devices and tools are an enhancement, not a replacement: Song loves a good skincare device more than anyone else, but she still stresses the importance of going back to basics and caring for your skin via your hands. TBH, it's also the best approach because devices aren't cheap. "Whether it's microcurrent or an LED light mask, do what makes you and your skin happy, but always take a moment to feel your face," she explains. "Your hands will remember what the texture of your skin was like before, after, and over time. They are your greatest skincare tool."

When I think of denim washes that look expensive no matter what you wear with them, light-wash jeans don't make the cut—in my opinion, at least. They tend to look more casual and less polished than darker washes. That said, there are things you can pair with light-wash jeans that actually do make them look quite expensive, and Zendaya just wore one of them.

This week, while out and about in Favignana in Italy (the Sicilian island where she's filming The Odyssey), Zendaya opted for a pair of straight-leg light-wash jeans, and she made them look just as expensive as their darker-wash counterparts. Her trick? She wore them with a basic that elevates casual outfits in an instant: a car coat. Also known as a mac coat or a single-breasted trench coat, car coats were initially given the name back in the early 20th century because they were designed to protect your outfit from the elements while riding in an open-top car. These days, owning one for that purpose certainly still works, or you can just wear them to make your light-wash jeans (and everything else) look expensive.

Vanessa Marc is an aesthetician and the founder of Vanessa Marc Spa in New York City. As such, she constantly keeps her finger on the pulse of the skincare industry to best serve her clients. Her skincare philosophy is minimalism rather than maximalism. "I believe less is more. Focus on a handful of products that truly work for your skin and invest in professional treatments performed by a licensed aesthetician. Achieving the best results takes time, but it's worth it. For me, investing in treatments like facials, micro-needling, chemical peels, and laser hair removal helped me reach my goals. Out of all the decades, I'd argue that the '60s was one of—if not the most—iconic time for bob hairstyles. In my opinion, the '60s bob is the bob. During this era, legendary hairstylist Vidal Sassoon pioneered the 5-point haircut which led to short, geometric haircuts, such as bobs, becoming one of the defining hair trends of the decade. Think former first lady Jackie Kennedy, fashion designer Mary Quant and actress and singer Diana Ross, who all embraced modern bobs with a signature '60s silhouette during this era.

And lately, it seems one sort of '60s bob hair trend is having somewhat of a revival in 2025, with celebrities such as Selena Gomez and Zendaya embracing big, Jackie O-esque bouncy bobs on the red carpets.

"The '60s bob is a short, jaw-length bob that is chunky through the outline giving plenty of movement and bounce through the ends," says Cos Sakkas, three-times British Hairdresser of the Year and Toni & Guy global creative director.

'60s bobs have plenty of volume at the roots and a luxurious swing or bounce through the lengths. "It’s all in the detail—the '60s bob has that little bit of extra polish and sophistication," says Sakkas, who says this is a versatile hairstyle you can wear in various partings. "The '60s bob is effortless and cool. It’s a nod to the past but totally modern and it looks great if left to dry naturally or softer when blowdried," he says.

"The great thing about the bob is there is a shape to suit every face shape," says Sakkas. "The oval face shape is the luckiest as all bobs suit this face shape, especially the '60s bob," he says.

With the way that fashion operates, we're constantly being persuaded to try the newest trends. There's nothing wrong with that, per se, but there's no denying that it can get pretty exhausting. Hear me out: in my opinion, there's no better time of year to wear a miniskirt than January.

I know many think of the first month of the year as cold and lethargic, but others tackle it with a renewed sense of self-expression. Rather than falling exactly into either camp, I tend to take a fairly split approach. Trying my best to fight off the winter blues and embrace the new year with a fresh bout of energy, I always like to get a little more experimental in the coldest, darkest month by digging out some of the overlooked items in my wardrobe and trying to breathe some new life into them.

My favourite piece to revisit at this time of year is a classic miniskirt, and apparently, I'm not alone. Suddenly cropping up in the wardrobes of celebrities everywhere, this unconventional winter buy is undoubtedly having a moment right now. Yesterday, Zendaya, Kendall Jenner and Lily Allen all stepped out wearing variations of the miniskirt within hours of one another, so I think it's fair to say we're going to see a lot more short hemlines around.

A playful alternative to the heavy trousers and jeans we typically wear when temperatures are at their lowest, a chic miniskirt feels fresh in any winter rotation. Naturally, they'll leave your legs exposed, but that doesn't mean you should rule them out. As we inch closer to winter, more often than not, I've been trading my skirts and dresses for jeans. As a result, I've reached the point in the season when I feel like all I wear is jeans and I need to change things up. Enter Zendaya. The event appeared to be on the casual side, and she could've easily worn jeans, but instead, she went with a buzzy pant trend that's an excellent swap: pull-on satin pants.

Behind many significant style moments, you can find a stylist who first envisioned that now-famous image—not infrequently, that person has been Law Roach. Known as “the image architect,” Roach has built his career in the fashion-and-entertainment industry by meticulously crafting the image of some of the more influential people in Hollywood. Even if you can’t rattle off a list of his most noteworthy looks as a stylist, you’ve seen his work. Law has been the force behind some of the most viral red carpet moments in recent memory for stars such as Zendaya, Céline Dion, Kerry Washington, Ariana Grande, Bella Hadid, Megan Thee Stallion, and many more. His success can’t be simplified into a client list, because he’s attained other accolades, too.

Law has made history throughout his career, as he’s often been “one of the first” to inhabit spaces in which many Black creatives before him could have never imagined reaching. The fact that a young Black man from the South Side of Chicago could wind up being one of the most influential stylists in the world was seemingly impossible, but then again, it reflects Law’s innate ability to bring forth unimaginable possibilities. After all, he was the first African American to grace the cover of The Hollywood Reporter's Most Powerful Stylists issue. On top of that, he won the inaugural Stylist Award for American Fashion at the CFDA Awards not once but twice. With so much success, it surprised many in the industry when he announced he’d be stepping back from styling in 2023 (with the exception of continuing to work with Zendaya and Céline Dion).

Although the move may have shocked many, we surmise after our conversation with Law that his intention wasn’t stepping away so much as stepping into himself again. That’s evident in the shift we’ve seen him make from building the public personas of stars to establishing a new pathway for the next generation of creatives. In the last few months, he’s announced his acquisition of the School of Style, an educational service that provides the tools, resources, and knowledge for aspiring stylists. Additionally, he’s on the tail end of the release of his first book, How to Build a Fashion Icon: Notes on Confidence From the World’s Only Image Architect, which is “part self-help, part manifesto,” all aimed at helping others cultivate their personal style. Law’s new projects reflect his focus on the bigger picture in many ways. It’s that innovative vision that compelled us to interview him to launch the My World series—thankfully for us, he obliged. Ahead, you’ll get a glimpse into Law Roach’s world, including his current projects, favorite styling moments, and so much more.

What style icons are on your inspiration board? And what do you love most about them?

Grace Jones, Cher, Zendaya. What I love about Grace Jones is that she’s the ultimate risk-taker. I think so many people continue to say that Grace is their source of inspiration. And then, oh my god, Cher. I love the relationship between her and the designer Bob Mackie—the back-and-forth dance they shared regarding styling inspires me. Lastly, Zendaya inspires me because I’ve been able to grow up with her. Watching her grow into her womanhood and create her own individual style and sense of identity outside of me has been really inspiring. I think it’s just really cool seeing how Zendaya has taken everything we’ve learned from working together and put her spin on it, creating her own kind of off-duty style. She’s been my fashion soulmate and style sibling, and we always tell each other that.

What’s the most-used item in your styling kit?

Double-sided tape, for sure.

You’ve styled some incredible red carpets over the years. Are there any looks you’ve styled that you look back on fondly? Why?

There are two looks. The first is Zendaya wearing the archival Mugler robot suit for the Dune tour in 2024. I think it’s one of my favorites because, in part, it felt almost impossible to pull off, but then it became possible. I think that kind of hope, the possibility of what could be, has always been what my career stands for, so this look very much embodies that to me. I also think that this particular look has now become a favorite of fans, even those outside of the fashion world, to the point where, honestly, as humbly as I can say this, I think it’s one of the biggest fashion moments of all time. My second favorite look that I’ve styled is Céline Dion wearing Stéphane Rolland for the Billboard Awards 2017—that moment was emotional. I think it was the first time I’ve actually ever cried at my work; it was just so perfect. It was, you know, this iconic performance. It was the 20th anniversary of Titanic, with Céline signing her song with that dress under those lights. Céline’s voice is undeniably one of the greatest of all time, and being a part of that is something that was just so special.

One of the incredible things about your work is that you’ve created these style moments that will undoubtedly leave their mark on the culture. But we’re curious how doing this work has influenced how you see the world. Conversely, how do you think your work has shifted how others see the fashion world?

It’s influenced a couple of things, actually. In doing this work, it has made my world so much bigger, meaning that the things I have access to are larger than what I might have ever imagined. But on the flip side of that, it’s also made the world smaller in a way—I can communicate with a designer in Australia or Japan or in a small town somewhere in Europe that I would have never even known existed. And then, there’s the other aspect of my presence in this industry. As I’ve been able to navigate the industry, it’s opened up possibilities for people who look like me when that has historically seemed somewhat impossible. I think that’s what I want my work to stand for—for that to be my legacy.

What’s the one luxury item you feel is worth the investment?

My Hermès Birkin. I feel like I carry my Birkin Bag as Jane Birkin carried hers; it’s a prized possession. But I also carry it all the time because it’s functional and makes me feel good. Honestly, it makes me feel quite beautiful.

What’s your cheap-thrill fashion find that you love?

My Hanes sweatpants from Target. It’s one of those items that are so accessible to anyone and everybody. But for me, they give me the sense of comfort and familiarity of, you know, where I came from.

What do you love most about these two items?

It’s so funny because these two pieces are polar opposites. But the juxtaposition of my Hermès bag and Hanes sweatpants, the duality of both of those things and wearing them simultaneously, is something that I think funnily speaks to my own style. It plays to both sides of my life and lifestyle, where I am versus where I came from, and being accepting and grateful for both sides. I think that’s why I’m so drawn to these two things.

Do you think finding the balance between comfort and luxury also applies to your home space?

I do. I think that’s what real style is about. Fashion and style are two totally different things. I believe style is about finding great pieces that speak to you and that you love.

What’s the most prized possession in your home? And why?

My most prized possession is a new painting entitled “Do Not Disturb,” which I purchased from the artist Frank Coffie. I love this painting because it reminds me of my uncles. When I was growing up, I had five uncles, and they played an important role in my life. The painting reminds me of how they used to look in old pictures from the ’70s and early ’80s; it’s very nostalgic.

What’s your favorite local spot to feel most comfortable when you’re not home?

Miss Ada NYC in Brooklyn. It has excellent food and a great atmosphere.

Is there a specific book that you’re currently reading?

My memoir, How to Build a Fashion Icon: Notes on Confidence From the World’s Only Image Architect, is currently at the top of my queue.

You just finished writing your first book. As you were working on it, were there any other written works from others that inspired you?

Quite honestly, I used writing this book as time with myself. It was a form of therapy. Right after I retired, I was alone with my thoughts and experiences. I had time to reflect on all of the things that had brought me to that moment in my life. I was able to see all of the things that I had learned throughout the years from my own experiences, my career, and all of the women I’ve worked with and use them to write this book.

What’s the one beloved deep-cut music album you listen to on repeat?

I don’t really listen to music, to be honest.

Is there a television show you’re binge-watching that has become the center of your world as of late? And why do you love it?

RuPaul’s Drag Race. I think the show is a testament to RuPaul’s whole philosophy—she’s always been about love and self-love specifically. And I think she took an aspect of culture considered a subculture for so long and brought it into the mainstream to share it with the world. I think that’s what draws me to the show. Also, I just love how talented all the queens are, you know?

What’s the one etiquette rule that you stand by?

If you love it, buy it. If you buy it, wear it. And if you wear it, wear it over again.

What’s your biggest pet peeve?

Do Not Disturb on people’s phone.

What’s something that’s overrated and underrated in your mind?

Underrated: confidence. Overrated: comparing yourself to people.

In addition to releasing your book, you’ve acquired the online platform School of Style. What compelled you to partner with Kent Belden to launch a platform dedicated to educating aspiring fashion stylists?

Well, Kent has been my agent for the last eight years, and I’ve found his dedication to the arts through nurturing and developing stylists inspirational. It just kind of made it a natural partnership. Also, I believe the reach of his agency [The Only Agency] will be very instrumental in giving people real opportunities. The most important thing for me is not to sell a dream but to share the tools they’ll need to enter the industry and achieve what they’re hoping for in the long term.

Young stylists face many challenges as they enter the industry. How do you hope this service helps them along their journey?

I hope it helps them launch their careers. I will be teaching them how to launch them with my infrastructure—all of the things and tools I used to become the stylist that I became. You know, I didn’t have any type of mentorship or couldn’t work for anyone earlier in my career, so I had to build all of the structures for my business. I had to make that business successful. One of the course’s most critical parts will be the financial literacy lecture. When people enter this industry and start making money as freelancers, they don’t quite understand how to navigate dealing with taxes and corporations and the best ways to deal with them. It’s one of the most crucial parts of setting them up for success because it requires a level of technicality. But I believe that the technique can be taught to other people, and it can be given to others. With my courses, I will share how I navigated this industry and became successful in a way broken down into collegiate-level coursework.

Is there any advice you wish you would have known when you first embarked on your career that you hope to share with others through your courses?

Honestly, the financial part of it was what I wish someone had taught me. After my first couple of years, to be very transparent, I was in a lot of trouble with the IRS. And it wasn’t just because I didn’t know; no one had ever explained how to set up a styling business. I didn’t come from a family with great financial literacy, so I was just thrust into this world where I was making money but wasn’t paying my taxes correctly.

We think it’s incredibly admirable that you’ve spent the last few months writing your book and launching the School of Style platform to share everything you’ve learned. It speaks to your understanding that to bring another generation forward, you must give them the tools they need to succeed. But we’re curious: How, if at all, have these projects impacted how you view your legacy?

With everything in my career now, I’m choosing to do things that will benefit others and help others grow, especially those who aspire to have a similar career. I just think it’s the right thing to do, and it feels good to pay it forward this way. I hope these two projects will play a huge role in my legacy. I think that’s what’s always been important to me. I’ve never wanted my legacy just to be, “Oh, well, he put pretty girls in pretty dresses,” you know? I’ve always believed that it should be a bit more.

Tonight, just days after performing at the Victoria's Secret Fashion Show in Brooklyn, Cher will return to the spotlight to be inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame alongside Foreigner, Mary J. Blige, and Dave Matthews Band. Of course, Zendaya is in attendance to pay homage.

The actress, who last channeled Cher at the 2021 Academy Awards with the help of her longtime stylist Law Roach, showed up to the induction ceremony in Cleveland, Ohio, wearing a vintage gold Bob Mackie dress from Cher's go-to designer's fall 2001 couture collection titled Foreign Intrigue. The dress—which features a crisscross design across the bodice and a sheer low-rise skirt with a high slit—was the finale look on the runway during New York Fashion Week in February 2001 and was styled alongside a white silk-satin trench coat that Zendaya is also wearing this evening. According to Law Roach's Instagram Stories, the coat is embroidered in gold and diamond iridescent bugle beads and stones. The dress, he continued, was entirely hand-beaded in gold, diamond, and iridescent bugle beads and aurora borealis stones.

The dress itself is reminiscent of one that Cher wore in a February 1975 performance of "I'm a Woman" alongside American actress Raquel Welch on The Cher Show. Also by Bob Mackie, the gold gown from Cher's personal collection sold for $5100 at Julien's Auctions, a California-based auction house.

We discuss color trends a lot here at Who What Wear, but truth be told, it's a worthy topic. It's one of the easiest ways to look on-trend for a new season, but not all fall color trends are created equal. The one Zendaya just wore in L.A. is undoubtedly more daring than, say, chocolate brown, burgundy, or red. The color is lime green, and no, it didn't reach its expiration date on Labor Day.

Amid high summer, when your biggest concern is staying cool and comfortable, it's easy to resort to a familiar rotation of tank tops and denim shorts. While there's certainly nothing wrong with honing a uniform that can see you through the season, sometimes it's nice to break it up with a new-season trend that can offer you the same cooling qualities, but with a 2024 twist.

Similar in silhouette (but with an undeniably elegant finish), halternecks are the anti tank-top trend that celebrities have been reaching for this summer.

Model Rosie Huntington-Whiteley chose an elevated white style she paired with beige trousers and a sleek leather belt. It curved down to create a V-neck cut and featured slim straps that framed her neck in a flattering and chic manner.
