The second I saw Chloé's new winter 2026 campaign, Tom Petty's "Wildflowers" started playing in my head. The photos, captured on a cliff-top meadow by Inez Van Lamsweerde and Vinoodh Matadin, perfectly embody the song's themes of comfort, peace, and unburdening. Sure, the flowers and the sea view are literal elements of the song, which Petty wrote as an escape from a tumultuous time in his personal life, but I'm more focused on the feeling the images evoke—a vibe best explained by the designer herself.

"For this campaign, I wanted to express devotion through women, the vastness of open landscapes, and craftsmanship," Chemena Kamali, creative director of Chloé, said in a press release. "Nature brings us back to instinct, freedom, and connection. In that openness, femininity unfolds with untamed strength and togetherness." With the wind at their backs, Raquel Zimmermann, Jacqui Louise, Thalita Ferreira, and Sarah Isaksen modeled Chloé's billowy, romantic dresses, plaid coats, embroidered blouses, over-the-knee boots, Paddington bags, and more. Mark your calendars: The new winter 2026 pieces will debut in September.

"Folkloric elements and the human touch come together to express a vision that is at once timeless, intuitive, and deeply rooted in the spirit of Chloé," the brand explained in a press release.

It's only fitting that Y2K icon Raquel Zimmermann carries Chloé's reissued Paddington bag, which debuted in 2005.

You belong among the wildflowers.

"Immersed in the clarity of winter light, the collection is revealed through movement, atmosphere, and the changing elements," Chloé explained in a statement.

"Sculpted by the wind and grounded in its surroundings, the silhouettes appear instinctively at one with their environment," the brand continued.

"The landscape is neither backdrop nor destination, but an active force, shaping each gesture and framing the collection."

It's not fall without pretty plaids.

If the cold-weather blasts before spring peeks through have you feeling sartorially uninspired, you’re not alone. I’m enduring my first really cold winter on the East Coast in a long time. After wearing my investment cashmere crewneck 20 times this month alone, I decided to spend my snow storm weekend decoding dressing for freezing temperatures. Even as it starts to warm, I probably won’t be able to wear ballet flats for a while, so I’m taking inspiration from my Parisian friends to find personal style in the dreariest season. Below, I share some of my tips.

Silhouette matters.

A single point of definition keeps you from becoming one big woolen blob—ankles, wrists, or even neck will do. The suggestion of shape is enough: a bodysuit under a big sweater or tights sticking out of a woolen dress. You are a sculpture!

Accessorize.

Earrings are the only thing that doesn’t get swallowed by layers. Similarly, I like to wear a clutch or smaller bag to offset a longer coat silhouette.

Moisturize.

Whatever extremities stick out of your clothing need extra care: healthy hair, dewy cheekbones, or well-cared-for nails make my day so much brighter.

Layer up. (My mom was right.)

My mom always said the heat builds between the layers, and she was right. If you run cold, a tank under the tee under your sweater will make a world of a difference. The top layer is basically the whole outfit, so invest in a few knits you are absolutely obsessed with—cost per wear, cost per wear! In France, the grandma store Damart makes the softest thermals. In the U.S., Intimissimi does a great job.

Going-out tops in winter are a no from me. My workaround is wearing a blazer or jacket as the top. Long sleeves, structure, texture—check, check, check. It looks intentional and cool, and you may even get away with a thin layer underneath.

Keep your extremities very warm.

There is no hack more powerful. For what it’s worth: tights + socks + loafers = extremely cute and rarely fails. If you’re truly freezing, invest in cashmere socks (I’m partial to Comme Si, but these are a great alt), and hide them inside boots.

Add texture.

Texture creates visual richness without needing skin. A cashmere set and nice “lounge-but-not-slouch” pants (I’m obsessed with these) can be a dream and also a great travel outfit. I also just got a vintage Mongolian fur stole on Etsy for $70 to add a little za za zou to my black wool coat.

Don't abandon color.

Cold weather does not mean going full noir. I love winter whites, tying a contrasting color sweater on top of my coat, and sneaking in a colorful sock or a striped or colored base layer to bring life to the January grayscale.

Since moving to Europe three years ago, I've found myself returning to Saint Moritz multiple times each winter, almost instinctively. It's become one of those rare places that feels both indulgent and deeply comforting at the same time.

What keeps pulling me back is its particular brand of quiet luxury: the grand, old-world hotels with their impeccable old-school hospitality, the sense of discretion and polish that never feels showy. The town's scene revolves around these timeless hotels that act as hubs for everything from après-ski gatherings to art openings, creating a rhythm that's both social and sophisticated. There's something about the cadence of life here—mornings on the mountain, afternoons skiing or attending the many cultural events, long lingering lunches at my favorite spots, evenings that move seamlessly from cozy to elegant—that feels effortlessly refined yet unmistakably alpine.

Beyond the slopes, I love the town itself: the local shopping and restaurants, the world-class galleries, and the steady calendar of art and cultural events that give it a cosmopolitan energy. It's glamorous without being loud, historic yet lively. It's a place that manages to feel both worldly and snug at the same time. Below is how I spent six perfect days in Saint Moritz, including my routine stop in Zürich on both ends of the trip.

Day 1: Train from Paris to Zürich, night in Zürich

To get to Saint Moritz, I take the three-and-a-half-hour train from Gare de Lyon straight to Zürich. I love Zürich so much that I always use it as an excuse to break up the trip with my same little ritual: one or two nights at one of my all-time favorite hotels, Baur au Lac. This time, I stayed just one night on this end and made sure to have dinner at Baur's—mainly so I could get my schnitzel fix.

Day 2: Train from Zürich to Saint Moritz, spa evening followed by a fancy dinner

The next morning, I had breakfast at the hotel, then headed back to the train station for my scenic three-hour journey to Saint Moritz. Upon arrival, I was greeted on the train platform by Suvretta House's driver, Carlo. I love Suvretta House for so many reasons. It's one of Saint Moritz's few heritage hotels that's not directly in town, but it's just a few minutes away by shuttle. It has the chicest crowd and feels like a glamorous secret away from the hustle of the village. I checked in just in time for Suvretta's iconic afternoon tea in the living room off of the hotel lobby while I waited for my friend to arrive from NYC.

We headed down to check out Suvretta House's new spa, which was legendary. It spans three floors with multiple saunas, steam rooms, and an outdoor hot tub and pool overlooking the wellness garden and ice-skating rink. Plus, there's a dedicated area just for children, which makes it great for families and everyone else.

After an evening at the spa, we got dressed for a fancy dinner at the Suvretta House's Grand Restaurant. (Men wear suits and ties, and ladies are advised to dress elegantly.) I look forward to this meal so much, as I get to order my all-time favorite dish here: the lemon spaghetti with caviar.

Day 3: Ski and lunch on the slopes, dinner in Sils Maria

The best thing about the grand hotels in Saint Moritz is that they all have rental facilities on property, so you can buy your lift tickets and rent all your equipment right downstairs at the Suvretta Sports Alpine Center and store everything in your personal locker at the end of the day. What makes Suvretta House especially unique is that it's the only ski-in, ski-out hotel in Saint Moritz. While the other hotels on the Corviglia side require shuttles and telecabines to reach the slopes, Suvretta House has its own private base with a Poma and ski lift that connect directly to the mountain. It feels like the ultimate luxury.

After a few ski runs, we made our way to Trutz for lunch, a Saint Moritz classic perched at the top of the Suvretta mountain station. I usually sit outside on the sun deck, but since the conditions were a bit dicey, we ate inside, which felt just as idyllic. Trutz is known for its cozy, homestyle cooking and classic Grisons hut dishes. We ordered a goulash soup and their signature veal ragù served with rösti. We were full, but the staff was so warm and friendly, and they could tell we were tempted by their famous kaiserschmarrn—a fluffy shredded pancake with red fruits—when they brought us a small portion to share. From Trutz, we skied directly back down to Suvretta House.

After a shower and a brief rest, we took a short taxi ride to Sils Maria, the sleepy village just 15 minutes down the road, for drinks and dinner at the new Chesa Marchetta. Recently taken over and beautifully reimagined by Artfarm, the creative hospitality company founded by gallerists Manuela Wirth and Iwan Wirth of Hauser & Wirth, Chesa Marchetta feels like a thoughtful revival rather than a reinvention. The historic Engadin house has been restored with a light touch—original woodwork, painted ceilings, and antique details balanced by clean, contemporary art and furniture. The restaurant has quickly become a destination in its own right with a lively yet intimate atmosphere and a menu rooted in the region: refined alpine classics, seasonal produce, and comforting, beautifully executed dishes that make you want to linger late into the evening before grabbing a drink at the bar, then heading back through the quiet, snowy valley to Saint Moritz.

Day 4: Ski and lunch on the slopes, dinner at a Luke Edward Hall–designed restaurant

After a late breakfast, we headed out to ski again. After a few long runs, we stopped for some hot chocolate at Chasellas, which is located at the base of the Suvretta chairlift, before heading back to the hotel to swap hotels.

I always like to switch hotels when visiting Saint Moritz (each one feels like a completely different experience), so we grabbed our luggage and headed to our next stop, the Kulm Hotel right in the heart of the village overlooking the iconic lake. Opened in 1856 by hotel pioneer Johannes Badrutt, the Kulm is often considered the town's original heartbeat and is widely credited with putting winter in the Alps on the map after his famous wager convinced British guests to return for the snowy season. More than a century and a half later, it still carries that same old-world grandeur—elegant, historic, and deeply tied to the origins of Saint Moritz as a glamorous winter playground. While Suvretta House is more intimate and tucked away for the "if you know, you know" crowd, Kulm has a lively and rather inviting après-ski scene with spots like the Kulm Country Club and the cozy, stylish Sunny Bar buzzing well into the evening.

After checking in to Kulm, we headed straight to the spa, then headed to dinner at Amaru, the hotel's Peruvian restaurant (which happens to be lactose- and gluten-free!) with whimsical interiors designed by British artist and designer Luke Edward Hall. In this beautiful dining room with hand-painted vaulted ceiling and walls, the menu concept is inspired by the idea of "street food" dishes, which were all delicious.

Day 5: Morning ski, relaxing afternoon in town, then pizza dinner

After another late breakfast, we made our way to the Kulm Alpine Sports Lounge & Boutique, which was recently redesigned by Foster + Partners. It's unlike any ski-rental experience I've ever had. At the entrance across from the gorgeous shop, a counter offers tea, coffee, hot chocolate, and warm homemade treats like waffles and Nutella-topped crêpes, and champagne is poured as you try on your equipment on a plush leather wraparound banquet—making gearing up feel more like a luxe lounge experience than ski prep.

After a few hours on the slopes, we returned to the Kulm Hotel Saint Moritz to drop off our gear and strolled into the village for a coffee at the trendy Café Belmont. Back at the hotel, we indulged in a final spa session before heading to drinks at the Kulm Country Club, where we had direct views of the Pink Mirror Carousel by Carsten Höller perched atop the hotel's ice-skating rink. We then headed to dinner at one of our favorite spots: the chic Pizzeria at Kulm.

Day 6: Art and shopping tour before a legendary final dinner in Zürich

One of the things I love about Saint Moritz is there's always something going on here. No matter when you visit in the winter, there's some incredible art or cultural event you'll likely have the opportunity to be a part of, from Snow Polo and ICE to Nomad Circle, in my case. (I recommend referencing the event calendar here ahead of your trip to Saint Moritz.) My visit happened to fall over Nomad Circle, the mobile art and design fair focused on contemporary art, collectible design, and architecture, which was taking place right in town.

After our visit to Nomad Circle, we walked around the village and stopped into some of my favorite shops, like Ender Sport for its assortment of chic trachtenjacke (those traditional wool-and-suede folk jackets) and alpine sweaters. I also love Ebneter & Biel for its traditional Appenzeller Swiss belts that make for great gifts. Oh, and I almost bought these incredible "alpine exclusive" Bally boat shoes that were half off at the Bally store but decided I wasn't about to join a yodeling troupe anytime soon, so I resisted the urge.

I had one more shop I had to visit before leaving Switzerland, but it was in Zürich, so I jumped on the train, checked back into Baur au Lac, and raced to Ludwig Reiter, the Austrian shoe brand that my friend Anny, who I happened to be traveling with, introduced me to ages ago when we were both fashion editors. The brand has a shop right on Wühre, a historic pedestrian street along the Limmat River in the old town of Zürich, and we managed to make it an hour before closing to stock up on another pair of its shearling-lined boots.

Finally, Baur au Lac's epic concierge team somehow managed to score us a last-minute, prime-time Friday night reservation at the legendary Kronenhalle for one last schnitzel. It was a perfect end to a perfect trip.

What I Packed

I packed a tight edit of elevated alpine essentials that balanced function and polish—anchored by cozy, shearling-lined footwear and rugged après-ski boots; tailored outerwear, like a sculpted zip jacket and classic down layers; and plenty of rich-textured separates. Think corduroy ski pants and wide-leg cords, soft cashmere lounge pants, chunky knits, and refined cold-weather accessories like a Fair Isle scarf that won't take up space. I tried to skew toward warm, earthy neutrals with a mix of sporty alpine pieces and more structured, quietly chic staples that could move easily from slopeside to nights out.

And just like that, we’ve wrapped on another season of London Fashion Week. And as ever, this year provided many unmissable moments, trends, hero items and collaborations worth knowing about. From a surprise appearance from none other than King Charles III, who was sat on front row for Tolu Coker’s first runway show, to a surprise performance from Little Simz, as well as Burberry’s showcase that left us all feeling like London is well and truly back on the fashion map, this season brought much excitement.

Whilst one of the "Big Four" major fashion cities, London is seen more as a hub for emerging talent and cult designers, there were still some must-see collections from bigger brands. Erdem and Emilia Wickstead, forever legends on the London schedule, debuted another season of house signatures. For Erdem, the focus was texture, brocade and romance for its 20th anniversary, with Emilia Wickstead showcasing her usual refined elegance, with a few unexpected contemporary details.

Adding to the excitement, Joseph made a grand return to London, debuting its A/W 26 collection at the Tate Modern. A brand known for its minimalist sensibilities, it pushed its own house boundaries to present "quiet luxury 2.0". Whilst staying true to Joseph’s DNA, it provided all the components of a timeless capsule wardrobe, with some surprise details. Rhinestone-clad separates, beaded knitwear and molten gold statement jewellery felt fresh for the season ahead.

Post-show talks amongst the team brought up several mentions of dresses. For a few years now, it has seemed that fashion has favoured skirts, suits and separates in general, but this time, London welcomed back the one-piece. From classic gowns at Richard Quinn, Erdem and Emilia Wickstead, to some surprising styles seen at Simone Rocha and Conner Ives, I woke up that Tuesday morning to find the note "power dresses are back!" typed on my notes app. Go figure!

Of course, it would be remiss to talk about the big brands without mentioning Burberry, which closed London Fashion Week at Old Billingsgate Market. Focusing on the city’s rainy weather as a theme, the collection was all about its iconic trench coat, but this time, creative director Daniel Lee was offering versions we hadn’t seen before. Indeed, all the celebrity guests, from Skepta to Alexa Chung, Stella Starsgaard to Daisy Edgar-Jones and Kate Moss, were wearing a different iteration of the show’s star piece. Naturally, it had been raining in London for several days, so this collection felt like it could almost be see-now, buy-now.

But whilst London may not have as many of the bigger design houses on its roster, it is home to some of the most impressive young talent in fashion. Grace Wales Bonner, Martine Rose, Chopova Lowena and Conner Ives are just some of the designers who made their way through the London circuit, many of them coming from the British Fashion Council’s NEWGEN programme.

So here, when collating the eight trends I spotted on the ground whilst darting between shows, presentations and the occasional party (or three), I’ve compiled a list that encompasses not only the big hitters but the emerging talent you need to have on your radar for A/W 26.

8 Trends From London Fashion Week A/W 26 That You Need to Know

1. Military Precision

Style Notes: We've been predicting the return of the Napoleon jacket since mid-last year, but it seems it's next autumn when the runways will really explore this comeback. A jacket so tied to the "indie sleaze" era, and with the recent obsession with 2016, it's no surprise that Sinead Gorey and Keburia, two designers known for their ironic design codes and nostalgic aesthetics, would champion this. But, for this season, we saw so much more than just Napoleon jackets. From golden braided frog closures on a Conner Ives denim jacket, to Labrum's regal structured silhouettes and pins, there were sightings of military influences, even in the most subtle of ways.

2. Check Mate

Style Notes: Starting strong with Burberry, a brand known as much for its iconic Nova check as it is for its trench coat, there were a few subtle references to its famed plaid on show. However, creative director Daniel Lee didn't focus too heavily on this graphic. Whilst it came on the pictured grey trench, as well as a fur burgundy bomber jacket and scarf, it remained an elusive part of the collection. For Emilia Wickstead and Tolu Coker, however, checks were more prominent, featured across tailored two- or (three-) piece sets, and in vibrant palettes. Bora Aksu, a designer known for referencing styles of the past, looked to more traditional checks, like dogstooth, houndstooth and gingham.

3. Pinned Down

Style Notes: We reported on the prominence of brooches late last year, so it's safe to say this often overlooked accessory was well on our radar. However, for A/W 26, there was no question of this slipping through the net. Then, the styling of brooches felt fairly pared-back; this season, they're hard to miss. At Toga, one of the standout looks was a dress that had the bottom half adorned in different brooches with organic, almost molten, stones.

At Sinead Gorey, it wasn't brooches but pins, which perfectly suit the label's punk aesthetic. Pins were actually something we noticed a lot when observing street style (perhaps a progression of this trend, and one to look out for?). At Simone Rocha and Erdem, it was, as usual, all about hyper-femininity, created with jewelled pins as well as layered ribbons and rosettes (a house signature for Rocha).

4. Touchy-Feely

Style Notes: What is the autumn/winter season without texture, furs and general softness? It goes without saying that in London, the city where we can't help but talk about the weather, we expect to see some decent outerwear. Burberry, Joseph and Toga delivered this in abundance, with full-length faux-fur coats, shearling jackets and aviator bombers. But there were a few other, less anticipated hero pieces so irresistibly tactile, you can't help but want to touch them. From feathered tops and accessories at Mithridate to a faux-fur polo shirt at Fashion East's Goyagoma by designer Traiceline Pratt, as well as those furry flats at Erdem, A/W 26 is proving that being cosy needn't be boring.

5. The Rad Hatter

Style Notes: ICYMI, 2026 is all about the hat. From Kangol berets to bonnets and bucket hats, we're focused on headwear. But what about for A/W 26? According to Labrum and Argo, deer-stalker hats are on the menu. I also noticed several trapper styles, with Ouyang, Mithridate and Sinead Gorey presenting XXXL shearling-lined, shaggy and faux-fur versions, worn loose below the chin. No cold ears here!

6. Florals

Style Notes: We expect florals in spring, but in winter, it's less anticipated. Especially in London, where for the most part, the style is quite casual, grungy even. Designers like Patrick McDowell and Richard Quinn, known for their theatrical show-stopping gowns that celebrate "classic" femininity, delivered pretty floral motifs, presented on vintage silhouettes that still felt timeless. Quinn's mesmerising '80s-inspired cuts displayed florals not just as digitally-printed graphics, but with embellished beading, brooches and feathers.

Emilia Wickstead and Simone Rocha showcased a few of their own floral dresses that stayed true to their individual house codes: adorned with ribbons and rosettes for Rocha, and off-the-shoulder silhouettes for Wickstead. Cult designer Masha Papova, however, presented a floral-printed leather jacket with matching short-shorts and shoes, delivering a three-piece look we didn't see coming.

7. Victoriana

Style Notes: Victorian-inspired fashion was a major theme for S/S 26, either with gothic references to hair and corsetry at Dilara Findikoglu or with romantic references like lace and "Froth" at Simone Rocha and Bora Aksu. For A/W 26, Victorian influences feel less gothic and more whimsical. Aksu and Rocha delivered what they always do: highly detailed lace gowns, with layers and swathes of sheer fabric and frou-frou skirts. The tailoring also felt quite Victorian, with Erdem's rigid high collars under blazers, tweed three-piece suits with brogues at Bora Aksu, and even Conner Ives referencing Dandyism by way of the '80s, with cummerbunds and neckerchiefs.

8. Heavy Embellishments

Style Notes: There's no question that A/W 26 was one for maximalists. Even designers known for their pared-back approach, like Joseph, delivered looks with heavier luxe details like rhinestones and embellishments. A standout look from Joseph was a cream knitted midi skirt and jumper set, which was heavily adorned with long, almost spiked beads.

For Conner Ives, this was a black two-piece set adorned with large, coin-like circular sequins that appeared almost like scales in the light. Richard Quinn, as previously mentioned, presented multiple opulent gowns decorated with ornate embellishments. At Emilia Wickstead, a strapless gold sequin number will certainly be looked upon as a trophy piece come party season, displaying beaded fringing along the hem. Spectacular!

The start to the year is usually a time for reset and renewal, a gentle ease into a new era of possibilities and a time to let go of that which doesn't serve you. If you work in the entertainment industry, however, January and February are anything but mellow. Thanks to a marathon of tentpole events, it can feel like a total slog. Lady Gaga's iconic quote "No sleep, bus, club, another club, another club…" comes to mind. It was the Critics Choice Awards followed by the Golden Globe Awards followed by our March cover shoot (stay tuned!) and straight into the Sundance Film Festival and then the Grammy Awards. The whiplash is enough to crack even the most seasoned editors, calling for a much-needed getaway stat.

The universe must have been listening because a glorious winter staycation presented itself: a three-night stay at The Ritz-Carlton, Laguna Niguel in celebration of its new collaboration with luxury accessories brand Kilometre Paris. About an hour's drive outside of L.A., the hotel is a coastal haven perched atop the seaside bluffs with panoramic views of the Pacific Ocean (right now, it's whale-watching season) and all the five-star amenities you could need. Plus, it's a quick drive from Main Beach in downtown Laguna Beach and the quaint, walkable shopping and dining destination known as Promenade on Forest, making it an ideal weekend retreat for fashion and food enthusiasts alike. Naturally, I jumped at the opportunity for some R&R and headed down south. Below, I'm sharing everything I packed for the Valentine's Day weekend winter escape.

Day 1: The Ritz-Carlton, Laguna Niguel x Kilometre Paris Dinner

After a short drive and check-in, I unpacked and met the Ritz-Carlton and Marriott team for a guided tour of the newly renovated Laguna Niguel property, including a peek at some of the beautiful suites and Club Lounge. We had a quick break between that and the evening's festivities: sunset cocktails on the terrace followed by an intimate candlelight dinner. The dress code was coastal chic, so I selected Dôen's Elisabeth Dress, which has a beautiful floral print and ruffle detailing. While this style is sold out, I also love the brand's Ischia Shirred Floral-Print Midi Dress ($370) for a similarly romantic vibe. February coastal temps dip into the low 50s at night, and since both cocktails and dinner were outdoors, I needed an elevated outwear option. I reached for an older Ann Taylor coat in a perfect shade of pink and finished the look with a pair of strappy heeled sandals from Mango.

At the end of the evening, we got to select a bag from the Kilometre Paris limited-edition capsule collection, which is now available to shop online and at select locations. The line features handcrafted beach totes, bucket bags, and bandanas inspired by four of the brand's coastal destinations—Laguna Niguel, Bacara Santa Barbara, Amelia Island, and Key Biscayne—and a portion of the proceeds benefit local charitable organizations tied to each participating resort. In keeping with the weekend, I grabbed the Laguna Niguel Le Tube Basket ($292) featuring an intricate wave design that will be a cute addition to future beach and pool days.

Day 2: Purity Ritual Meditation + Cocktails and Dinner

The next day, we went for a morning walk around the property and down to Salt Creek Beach before participating in a guided Pacific Purification Ritual on the hotel bluffs. The ritual included a sound bath meditation session followed by a smudging ritual and ocean plunge. I knew this would be more of a comfy activity but also a little cold, so I wore Negative's Waffle Knit Pullover ($160) and Cropped Track Pants ($180) in Mink over my Tropic of C leopard-print bikini. I had to finish a bit of work after, so the lounge set carried me through most of the day.

Truthfully, I thought we were in for a chillier weekend, so I packed mostly sweaters and long-sleeve tees. Getting dressed was a bit of a struggle when Saturday proved to be a beautiful, sunny day. For Peterson, it's far deeper than a surface-level partnership. She says using and investing in the right beauty products isn’t vanity; it’s a practicality—a critical, tactical step that helps her maintain sharp focus on the competition. “Cold is not just uncomfortable; it’s physically damaging,” she says. “Skin dries out, splits, and can freeze if you’re not careful. I use thick balms to seal in moisture and create a barrier against wind and cold. I also cover as much skin as possible with a buff, sunglasses, and a hat, and when conditions are extreme, I’ll tape exposed areas to keep them from freezing.”

Taking protective measures is important, especially since Peterson spends the vast majority of her time in freezing temperatures. “I spend as much time outside as possible because that’s where I feel most like myself,” she says. “I train roughly 750 hours a year, which usually comes out to 13 to20 hours per week, and I still choose to be outside even when I’m not 'training.’”

Anderson is also no stranger to long, intense training. (She is, after all, the Olympic snowboarder who made history at the 2014 Sochi Games, becoming the first women's Olympic slopestyle gold medalist.) Like Peterson, she spends "a good amount of time" outside, especially when she's in full training mode. (I have a feeling that “a good amount of time” equates to a staggering number of hours, but I digress.) “Preparation for big events is a mix of physical training, repetition, and mental prep," she tells Who What Wear. "I work hard on strength and mobility off the snow, but once I’m on the mountain, it’s about dialing in consistency and confidence.”

Both athletes rely on a simple yet high-performance routine to keep their skin in check, no matter how intense their training becomes. “As a professional snowboarder, I basically live in the snow,” Anderson says. “Since I was little, being out on the mountains would do a number on my skin, even with goggles, masks, gloves, the works. I’ve always had to be mindful of my skincare routine because of this, or else training would be even harder." That makes sense. After all, a stinging face, dry skin, and cracked knuckles make it difficult to focus on the task at hand.

"To keep my skin safe and healthy, I don’t think about the during, I think about the before. When I ask both athletes what it’s like training for the Olympics, and whether or not they still get nervous, they answer with an expected sense of humility, determination, and hard-fought confidence. “I still get nervous before competing, and I’ve learned that’s a good thing,” Anderson says. “Meditation and breathwork help me stay grounded, present, and connected to my body so I can channel that energy into focus instead of pressure.”

Peterson shares a similar sentiment. “Preparing for the Paralympics doesn’t feel fundamentally different from any other race," she explains. "I focus on going on fun adventures and becoming a more complete skier. I still get nervous before competing, but I see that as a sign of care, not fear."

The best part? Alpine cardigans are venturing off the slopes and quickly becoming a go-to sweater choice for chic city folk, too. The Hale Cardigan, with its unique jacquard-print details and buttery-soft Pima cotton-alpaca blend fabric, is a no-brainer choice for those exact people, which is probably why it's already selling out at lightning speed.

Given its considerable price at $798, I felt a responsibility to try it out IRL before I recommended that others make the same personal investment I've been considering ever since I first spotted the sweater on Dôen's website. How I Styled the Dôen Hale Cardigan

My Review

Immediately upon unboxing the Hale Cardigan's two available colorways, I knew I had to own at least one of them. The sweater comes in a lighter palette of oatmeal, cream, and mocha brown, as well as black, with brown and ivory accents. Both are hand-knit in Peru and made of a mix of 47% baby alpaca, 41% cotton, 8% wool, and 4% polyamide. In other words, this is no itchy sweater. It's soft and cozy—perfect for New York City winters. The shawl collar gives the knit a vintage look, as do the three faux horn buttons that are reinforced with a crochet belt that allows you to cinch the chunky silhouette right at the waist. It even has pockets that successfully fit my quite large iPhone 17 Pro Max on one side, and my Amazon Kindle on the other.

My first time wearing it, I opted for the lighter version, styling it simply with 501 Levi's, Khaite wedge-heel mules, and my favorite vintage Celine makeup-bag-turned-clutch from The Vintage Marché for a relaxed day at the office. Surprisingly, despite the cold, it kept me toasty when I went out on my lunch break without a coat on top, but inside at my desk, it didn't get too toasty, even with the heat on. Plus, I counted five different Who What Wear employees who complimented me on it or asked me where it was from.

I haven't yet tested out the black version, though I've already thought up a multitude of ways to style it, including with a white poplin skirt and some lady-like court shoes, as well as with tailored trousers and loafers, a combination that will balance out the casualness of the Alpine style. What's nice about the darker option is that the print is a touch more subtle. That, and black is always more versatile, making it easy to pair with just about anything that already exists in my wardrobe and yours.
