I still remember when the shell trend first piqued my interest. Back in May of last year, my colleague Lauren (whom I sit directly next to) wrote about how shell jewelry was the bubbling trend about to break. I paid no mind at the time—even though, of course, she was right—because shells weren’t quite speaking to me yet. I simply didn’t have that need-to-own feeling like I do about a lot of other fashion items on my radar. That was, of course, until they really started to appear all over my Instagram feed shortly thereafter. The trend (still in jewelry form) hit its stride right around August—just as Lauren had predicted. 

At that point, if an influencer didn’t have a shell on their Instagram feed, they couldn’t really call themselves an influencer. After all—even I had one—a Wald Berlin necklace that seems to only increase in relevancy as the months pass. Even then, however, the brands designing them and people wearing (and talking about) shells were restricted to our little fashion industry bubble, with occasional exceptions here and there. We thought the trend blew up, but we had no idea. 

Which brings us to today. As we approach the spring season, and spring fashion has finally gotten into full swing—with collections almost done hitting in stores—I pose the question: Have we reached peak shell? If this sounds a little out of left field, let me explain.

The souvenir-inspired trend has gone well beyond a niche jewelry adornment loved by influencers and fashion insiders to a full-blown mega-craze. They don’t just appear on jewelry anymore but have now expanded to bags, shoes, hair accessories, clothing, and more. It’s not just under-the-radar indie brands selling them; it’s everyone from Altuzarra and Alexander McQueen to Zara and Mango. The trend includes real-life shells, shell prints, and shell embroidery.

We can only imagine the fashion treasures lurking in the surely vast wardrobe of Sienna Miller. This is a woman who has been dressed by the biggest designers on planet fashion for well over a decade, playing muse to many and having more than a few opportunities to really bring out the big guns. The Oscars, Cannes, fashion week, countless movie premieres, numerous cover shoots… You name it, Sienna's had a fabulous dress for each and every moment of her career.

Over the past few months, we have also been truly in awe of her casual attire too, with the actress looking effortlessly cool in NYC on the school run in her low-key designer garms—many of which have been worn on repeat and in various combinations. Turns out she's just as keen on shopping from her own closet when it comes to night-out outfits: For a Christmas get-together with Brit music-scene legend Noel Gallagher, Sienna dug into her own archive and pulled out a glitzy little gold number that we noticed as being rather familiar.

We recognised the small gold sequins rendered into an ultra-short shift dress, complete with a neat empire-line bow: Twas her Burberry mini from the 2006 Anglomania Met Gala, designed by Christopher Bailey and first worn with black tights, patent Mary-Janes and—as was de riguer during the time—with her hair up with two long strands falling down at the front, as well as a small shoulder bag.

Giving this little dress a winter makeover, Sienna threw on a classic black double-breasted coat and changed her accessories game: A green satin mini bag and black platform sandals gave the dress a quirky Britishness.

I have to tell you, since becoming a New Yorker, I’ve gotten a much better understanding of what seasonal dressing actually is because, well, we have them here! Aside from learning to dress according to a more drastically changing climate, I’ve also learned to organize my closet as such, too. After all, space is limited and I’ve come to realize one of the best things I can do to help manage my closet is to only keep out items I’ll actually use in a given season, and put away those I won’t.

You've probably noticed that we love a good affordable celebrity find. Especially when it's an affordable Zara find. Sure, Zara has plenty of "Extra" pieces currently in stock, but usually it's the basics that get the most wear, which Sienna Miller clearly realises. She just donned a £40(!) checked shirtdress that couldn't be more perfect for early autumn. With its versatile midi length and neutral black, white and grey colour palette, it has wardrobe staple written all over it. Oh, and as you'll see, it's the perfect dress to wear with ankle boots. Just add a chunky cardigan when the temperatures call for it.

There's a reason celebrities so often unintentionally turn what they wear into "It" pieces (especially when the celebrity is as stylish as Miller): People trust their choices because they have their pick of basically any fashion item on the planet. If you had name-dropped Lady Amelia Windsor this time two years ago, you probably would've been met with blank expressions. It was a sisters-in-law day out for Kate Middleton and Meghan Markle at Wimbledon today, as the two appeared for their first ever solo outing together. As for accessories, Markle chose some Illesteva sunglasses and a Maison Michel hat, which looks identical to the one she wore to Wimbledon back in 2016. Though still technically on maternity leave, Kate Middleton stepped out in a white printed Jenny Packham dress, a designer the Duchess of Cambridge has worn many times before.

Earlier today, the Duchess of Sussex made her first outing as a member of the royal family at a garden party at Buckingham Palace to celebrate Prince Charles turning 70. Three days after her wedding, Meghan looked appeared to have had a royal makeover; she wore an outfit that could have come straight from the Duchess of Cambridge's own wardrobe. Meghan turned to one of Kate's go-to labels, Goat, a British designer that specialises in classic workwear and tailoring.

Meghan wore a dove-grey dress by the brand with a pencil skirt and sheer silk-chiffon sleeves and neckline. Although a version this dress is available for £590, a custom style was made for Meghan in a slightly different shade. "We're honoured the Duchess of Sussex chose to wear Goat for her first official royal engagement," says Jane Lewis, the label's founder. Meghan then paired her dress with a classic Philip Treacy fascinator in the exact same shade, a pair of nude court shoes and a pair of flesh-coloured tights.

Meghan Markle and her mother, Doria Ragland, just arrived at the Cliveden House Hotel ahead of the royal wedding tomorrow morning, and Markle added fuel to one of this week's growing wedding dress rumors. On the eve of her much-anticipated royal wedding, the bride-to-be wore a classic fitted navy dress by her friend Roland Mouret. Could this be a not-so-subtle hint about what she'll wear tomorrow?

Names like Erdem, Stella McCartney, and Ralph and Russo may be the front-runners, but it's also likely that Roland Mouret is involved in the day due to his long-standing friendship with the bride. What Meghan Wore founder Susan Courter told Who What Wear that she believes Mouret could be the man for the job: "I've always felt strongly around Roland Mouret in the beginning, right off the bat, and I think that's because of their connection and their friendship. And Meghan tends to gravitate toward someone that she knows, that knows her style, and knows what flatters her. As well, he is a London-based designer, and he would be able to zone in and focus on those clean lines, a tailored look, with a little bit of a whimsical element within the dress."

Markle opted for a classic Roland Mouret design the day before her wedding. Her fitted dress features his signature silhouette with capped sleeves, a flattering knee length, and interesting modern design details thanks to the asymmetric neckline and elegant, draped skirt. She paired the simple but sophisticated dress with a pair of pointed dove gray court shoes. The dress was $1890 at Selfridges but, of course, is already sold out. Ragland dressed in a similarly classic style, wearing a cream shift dress with a collarless black tweed jacket and a smart matching envelope clutch bag.

Meghan Markle and her mother Doria Ragland just arrived at the Cliveden House Hotel ahead of the royal wedding tomorrow morning, and Meghan added fuel to one of this week’s growing wedding dress rumours. On the eve of the much-anticipated event, Meghan wore a classic navy fitted dress by her friend Roland Mouret. Could this be a not-so-subtle hint about what she’ll wear tomorrow?

Names like Erdem, Stella McCartney and Ralph and Russo might be front-runners, however, it is also likely that Roland Mouret could be involved in the day due to his longstanding friendship with the bride. What Meghan Wore founder Susan Coutner told Who What Wear UK that she believes Mouret could be the man for the job: “I’ve always felt strongly around Roland Mouret in the beginning right off the bat, and I think that’s because of their connection and their friendship. And Meghan tends to gravitate toward someone that she knows… that knows her style and knows what flatters her. He is a London-based designer and he would be able to zone in and focus on clean lines and a tailored look with a little bit of a whimsical element within the dress.”

Meghan opted for a classic navy Roland Mouret design, which featured a signature silhouette with capped sleeves, a flattering knee length and interesting modern design details (thanks to the asymmetric neckline and elegant, draped skirt). Meghan paired the simple, but sophisticated, dress with a pair of dove grey pointed court shoes. The dress is—at the time of typing—still available to buy for £1350 at Selfridges. Her mother Doria dressed in a similarly classic style to Meghan, wearing a cream shift dress with a black collarless tweed jacket and an envelope clutch.

Many of the key buys for 2018 are reworkings of '80s and '90s classics, such as Versace scarf prints, leather belt bags, pastel double-breasted suits and white shoes. This week, Kris Jenner hijacked her daughter Kylie's Instagram account to show her collection with Kylie Cosmetics—she wore all black with a chunky gold Chanel chain belt and micro sunglasses. Earlier this week, Sienna Miller wore the perfect bank holiday look: It's something I plan on copying and living in for the next 48 hours. The guest list for the royal wedding was notably starry, with the likes of Oprah Winfrey, George and Amal Clooney and Idris Elba seated at St George's Chapel in Windsor. Victoria Beckham wore an elegant navy blue cape dress from her own label—complete with sleeves, a clasp at the neck and a slit revealing a slither of skin along the chest. She teamed the navy midi (which will be available in November as part of the pre-spring 2019 collection) with a pair of red court shoes and a matching navy hat with a veil. In a crowd of vibrant prints and colours, her look stood out as a more simple and modest option. Perhaps Victoria was conscious to not wear anything that made a huge statement—and now we know the full story.

"So I went to a little wedding a few months ago. It was the royal wedding actually so not just a little wedding. What do you wear to a royal wedding? So I knew I wanted something that was appropriate, something that was feminine, something that I felt comfortable in, but I also wanted it to have a little bit of edge," she tells Vogue Paris in the video below. "So I designed this dress that has this really beautiful D-ring neck detail because I love the toughness. That is very slimming—that is always key. A nice slash down the front to get some skin out it makes it feel feminine and it makes it feel quite sexy, but still appropriate." 

Victoria Beckham fans will note that this is similar to the outfit she wore to the royal wedding of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge. In April 2011, Victoria stuck to the same formula, as she wore a classic navy shift dress with a matching hat and very high platform heels.

This weekend, at every turn, I saw another floral midi dress, and it seems like Meghan Markle's approach to summer city dressing is no different. At an event for the Invictus Games in London on Saturday, Markle wore a floral green pleated midi dress by the go-to label for luxury dresses at a sharp price point: Self-Portrait. This brand is known for its now signature sculpted lace dresses, but this season, it moved its aesthetic forward by reworking the classic tea dress. Markle proved once again that she is going to have a more modern approach to traditional royal dressing, as although the dress has a conservative knee length, it features a fashion-forward off-the-shoulder neckline. Green floral-print midis have been the surprise hit of the season, as dresses from ASOS, Kitri and more in this style can't be restocked fast enough.

When it comes to smart dresses, it can be difficult to find a coat or jacket that doesn't look awkward sat with the dress. However, Markle masterfully paired her midi with a classic black Alexander McQueen blazer. This worked perfectly because it pulled out the black, which was in the floral print. The most expensive-looking outfit you can wear is always head-to-toe white—nothing screams luxury quite like ivory. It gives the impression that you are pristine, don't travel by public transport and have the budget for lots of visits to the dry cleaners. Yesterday Victoria Beckham wore two all-white outfits, wearing flared trousers and a slouchy jacket with the sleeves rolled up to celebrate her birthday with her children. She then wore all white to support Eva Longoria as she was presented with a Hollywood star—VB wore a white midi skirt with a matching silk shirt. She added colour with her heels, as she wore a pair of lilac pumps from her own collection. Los Angeles or Nashville might be considered the denim capitals of the world, however, East London has its own growing denim scene bursting out of Shoreditch, Hackney, Clapton, Dalston and Walthamstow. This week on This Morning, Emma Willis showcased King & Tuckfield, the denim brand based in Walthamstow and manufactures its denim at Blackhorse Lane Ateliers. Erin Fridja of Clapton-based denim shop Bad Denim previously said to Who What Wear about London's denim hot spot: "Manufacturing-wise, I was so psyched when Blackhorse Lane Ateliers opened up in Walthamstow—it's a great space and incredible to bring manufacturing back to London. It also offers classes on stitching and indigo dyeing for the community. It's such a great idea and spirit." Rosie Huntington-Whiteley posted a picture this week, and we're not sure what we love more—her dress, her sausage dog or the epic sea photograph hanging on her wall behind her. Rosie posted a picture of her spin on workwear, as for her "day of meetings," she wore a tight-knit, ribbed mushroom-coloured dress from Reformation, which has tiny buttons down the front. Rosie doesn't usually wear anything that you could class as "affordable," as Céline, Saint Laurent and Balmain are her go-to labels, so we were pleasantly surprised to discover that she was wearing something under the £200 mark. This week, H&M celebrated the upcoming launch of its new Conscious Collection with a starry party in Hollywood, but there was one piece that clearly stood out as the must-have buy of the bunch. Kate Bosworth wore a green lace sleeved midi dress with a nipped-in waist and floaty hem. On paper, this is a very prim and proper dress—the type of thing Kate Middleton would wear with nude pumps to a family wedding.

However, Kate toughened up the dress with a black leather handbag, studded biker boots with silver toe caps by Alexander McQueen and her hair pulled back into an edgy half-up, half down top knot on the crown of her head. Green printed dresses are taking off in 2018—Kitri's £145 Gabriella Pleated Shirt Dress had a waiting list of over 800 people, and ASOS's green printed midi with buttons on the side also created a shopping frenzy. We have a feeling this will be another green dress that will be almost impossible to get a hold of.

Today Meghan Markle and Prince Harry attended the UK team trials for the Inviticus Games. Meghan wore an Inviticus-branded polo shirt, but that's as far as she went with the sportswear theme. Instead of wearing a practical waterproof like Harry, Meghan looked polished in the one thing that has long been considered the ultimate spring must-have—a trench coat. A classic suit is the gift that keeps on giving. Not only is it chic, but it's timeless and appropriate for tons of different occasions. You could feasibly own the same blazer-and-pant combo for several decades (talk about optimizing the cost per wear). But the challenge there is coming up with fun styling ideas so it doesn't feel like something you've owned for a lifetime.

Leave it to Rosie Huntington-Whiteley to demonstrate one way to keep things fresh: cinching a jacket at the waist with a belt bag. The retro accessory is coming back with a vengeance, and whether you're sold on it or not, you have to admit—it's pretty functional. Also, in Rosie's case, it looks effortlessly cool. Tracksuits are back in a big way, but surely you've already heard this. (Looking at you, Armie Hammer.) While the athleisure staple might seem like a no-brainer for a casual brunch or quick errands run, turns out it's not reserved for low-key occasions alone. Zendaya, for one, is a fan of the red carpet tracksuit—she recently rocked one at an event for UK-based retailer Boohoo (and looked mighty cool, for the record).

It's a polarizing look for sure—but the key to pulling off a hoodie and sweats for a big-time event is leaning on elevated accessories. (See Zendaya's sleek hoops and classic black pumps.) Fresh-faced glam and a loose topknot nod to the athleisure vibes, but remain polished—a definite "do" in this scenario. It is finally sunglasses weather, and the most in-demand frames are back just in time for our long weekend. When Meghan Markle wore the £120 tortoiseshell Percy sunglasses by London-based eyewear brand Finlay to the Inviticus Games in September, they sold out in record speed. At the time, Finlay reported a 1000% increase in sales and revealed it made £20,000 overnight following the Meghan sighting. The brand revealed that it has sold thousands of pairs, which we think makes them the most sought-after sunglasses to date. Six months later, these sunglasses are finally available to buy, and given the affordable price tag, we imagine they won't be in stock for long. Last year one of the most bought-into trends was checked blazers, and Rosie Huntington-Whiteley just confirmed that this is the look that keeps on giving. Rosie wore a grey checked double-breasted blazer by Georgia Alice with matching wide-leg trousers. She then added some key 2018 accessories—a Gucci quilted belt bag and a pair of PVC sandals. The look also has an air of Victoria Beckham, as she wore a pair of her visor sunglasses and a white crew neck T-shirt, which has become a VB staple. We try not to play favorites, but the offerings of emerging designers are consistently among the most exciting in the industry. (During fashion week, we stay glued to their every move like it's a spectator sport.) One label high on our radar is Lorod, an NYC-based label helmed by Parsons alums Lauren Rodriguez and Michael Freels.

The line, which focuses on workwear-inspired silhouettes, is only several seasons old but has already amassed fans including Bella Hadid, the Haim sisters, and most recently, Zoey Deutch. The Flower actress chose a denim jacket and pants boasting cool contrast stitching and exaggerated zippers—two details that totally punch up a tee-and-jeans look. Keep your eye on future collections from Lorod. Hopefully, we'll see the brand on Zoey (among other celebs) again soon.

When it comes to effortless weekend style, Jeanne Damas always gets it right. We have been counting down the days until payday to splurge on the new Rouje collection, and Sienna Miller just confirmed the one thing we want to buy. At a party in New York, Sienna wore the Momo top from Jeanne Damas's label, which has cute puffy sleeves, buttons down the front and a red floral print. And unlike most things on Rouje, it is currently in stock. She paired her top with navy high-waisted cropped culottes and a pair of brown leather pumps with a wooden heel. This time over just a year ago, Fearne Cotton managed to track down a bubblegum pink trouser suit from Zara for £80 to ring in spring. At the time, the retailer's rails were flooded with trouser suits in a rainbow of pastel colours—from lemon to mint to baby blue. But the hue that seemed to pique the fashion set's interest was still pink, seasons after it first came into play. Back then Fearne wore the belted, ankle-grazing trousers with the matching blazer, a leopard-print blouse with pink splodges and a pair of white brogues adorned with black frills.

Fast forward 14 months and Fearne's back onto the trend, picking yet another pink suit from Zara and wearing it in a far more casual, very London-girl ensemble for 2019, with a printed tee, shoulder bag and colourful-soled sneaks. What's more, is that this particular set from Zara is from the brand's Join Life collection: A range that features more sustainable fabrics, with this being made from at least 50% recycled polyester.
