It's no secret that I'm a major Mango fan. As far as high-street brands go, it's without a doubt my go-to. Over my 10 years in this industry, I've become accustomed to spotting the very best in design, quality and brand positioning. From my years spent styling, packing and steaming as a fashion assistant and stylist, to many more writing about pieces and collections, there's no other affordable brand I've come across that consistently ticks all my boxes. From its innovative campaigns to celebrity and designer collaborations (which have previously included Victoria Beckham, Hailey Bieber and Supriya Lele, no less), this is a label committed to catering to the fashion girl.

When it comes to my personal style, I'll admit I'm weak for a trend. I'm not so much a classic dresser; I like to be a step ahead of the zeitgeist, adopting a trending colour, cut or accessory just before it becomes huge. This is where Mango quenches my thirst. Whether I'm having a surfer-girl summer, adopting a maximalist vibe or just looking for that next cult item: cobalt-blue linen trousers, updated white summer dresses or a crochet skull cap, for example (yes, this is my search history), whenever I type my next obsession into Google, the shopping suggestions for Mango always lead the charge.

This isn't to say that the brand doesn't cater to classicists; quite the opposite. You can always count on Mango for luxury-looking staples at a fraction of the cost, from tailored favourites fit for a working wardrobe to linen basics ideal for these heatwaves.

So, as an avid admirer, when the brand invited me on a trip to Greece to celebrate its Slow Summer campaign and visit its pop-up boutique in Hydra, I was there before you could say "feta cheese." It would be a few days of wining, dining and blissful summer activities under the Grecian sun. Delightful, right? Taking place just before the summer solstice, the trip really kicked off the season for me, getting me in the mood for a few sun-soaked holidays and months of long (occasionally lazy) and balmy days back home in London.

The trip turned out to be far more beautiful and curated than I expected, and Hydra really caught me by surprise. If you've never been, please look to book a trip immediately. A small, special island off the coast of Athens, it's just one hour by ferry and doesn't have any cars—just donkeys! It's like stepping back in time. The pop-up Mango boutique was thoughtfully designed with whitewashed walls and vibrant blue tiles, showcasing a selection of the brand's standout womenswear and home accessories.

Of course, I wore Mango from dusk till dawn. From the elevated styles in the latest Selection edit to the collaboration with Eckhaus Latta that has fashion girls frothing at the mouth, there was a look for every occasion. And judging by the quality of the fit, I honestly couldn't believe these weren't designer pieces. And with that, see and shop everything I packed and how I styled it all below.

Style Notes: For dinner, we enjoyed a rooftop experience at the National Museum of Contemporary Art in Athens. With views of the city and the Acropolis, we had drinks as the sun set, before sitting down for dinner. After dark, we danced all night whilst sipping Mango-flavoured cocktails—sublime!

Style Notes: After a night in Athens, we ventured to Hydra. One ferry and a lunch later, and there we were. I wore the Eckhaus Latta trousers with a skirt overlay, with flip-flops and a boho-style blouse. I've had my eye on the trousers since they dropped, and knew I needed them. They sit low on the hips and are so comfy—perfect for travelling in.

Style Notes: For our pre-dinner drinks, we visited the Hydra pop-up store. I wore a long white linen skirt, a lace camisole from the Selection edit and the same shirt from the night before. I sized up in the lace cami for a loose fit, and so it would work for beach days over a bikini in the future. As Hydra is completely cobbled, I paired this outfit with flip-flops, although I would have liked to wear the Eckhaus Latta orange wedges, but I'll have to save those for another day.

Dinner and Outdoor Cinema: Just Add Accessories

Style Notes: For dinner on the coast, I wore the same outfit and added a few accessories. I ditched the flip-flops for a heel, popped on a shell chain belt and a sculptural necklace, and grabbed this beautiful beaded bag, which I know will get a lot of use this summer. After dinner, the Mango team held an outdoor screening of the French film La Piscine. The screen was set on the rocks just above the sea. It was the perfect end to a perfect day.

As a fashion editor, I must admit, I love a good deal. But it can’t just be any run-of-the-mill deal. I’m talking about the kind of shopping steal that hits that rare sweet spot between quality, cut, and price. The kind of deal that feels like a secret handshake between fashion insiders. So, when fashion TikTok began buzzing about a certain COS cashmere sweater, likening it to a very high-profile designer version that has quietly sat at the top of every fashion person’s wish list, I dropped everything to investigate. Frankly, I had to see what the hype was about. Spoiler: The hype is very, very real for the COS Chunky Pure Cashmere Crew-Neck Sweater.

Technically, I ordered the navy version online the moment I saw it, but my patience lasted all of 36 hours. The buzz was too loud and the stakes were too high, so a few days before my package was even set to arrive, I made a beeline to the COS store in SoHo on my lunch break, hoping to try it on in person. Fashion emergencies happen, and in New York City, same-day gratification is a luxury of its own.

Hanging on the rack, the COS Chunky Pure Cashmere Crew-Neck Sweater in Beige immediately stood out. There’s a noticeable difference when cashmere is actually thick—the weight, the plushness, the drape. This wasn’t the flimsy, borderline see-through cashmere you often find at lower price points (of which my closet is already filled with). As a cashmere snob, I have high expectations and, with the last sweater in my size hanging discreetly at the back of the rack, I made a beeline for the fitting room.

Think: perfect for a chilly Sunday getting brunch, or layered under a trench coat for your morning walk to the F train. If you’re into an oversize fit, this one is perfect—albeit a bit too big. I sized down from my typical size of an XL due to the limited size range, and felt that the L was just oversize enough without looking too baggy or sloppy.

Although I own three beige sweaters already, this one made me almost regret ordering it in navy—the color is so luxe and went perfectly with the black jeans I was wearing that day. Typically, I find cashmere sweaters to have thinner, understated cuffs and crewnecks, so I appreciated this chunky version with wider details along my wrists and neck.

At $350, it’s not exactly an impulse buy—but it is a smart one. Its more elusive (and four-digit-priced) counterpart from that stealth-luxury label retails for somewhere around $1500, and regularly sells out before it ever hits shelves. So yes, by opting for COS, I effectively saved $1200, and got the look, feel, and quiet confidence of a designer piece that no one needs to know didn’t cost the price of my rent, and then some. That's what I call girl math.

"It was such a treat to take this pretty purple Aje dress for a spin just in time for wedding season. If there's one thing you need to know about me, it's that I have a sunglasses collection like nobody's business. My $15 black wayfarer frames I got from a souvenir shop on Canal Street are equally as loved as the designer sunglasses I've spent a quarter of a paycheck on. If you have any sort of fashion bone in your body and you're plus-size, you'll know the power of accessories to make or break an outfit. Sure, I can't fit into the trendiest designer skirt of the moment, but what I can do is make sure my outfit feels equally as elevated with shoes, handbags, sunglasses, and other accessories that'll make me look like a million bucks.

Enter Heaven Mayhem, the internet's beloved direct-to-consumer accessories brand started by founder Pia Mance. Although the label launched by offering vintage-inspired earrings, Heaven Mayhem has transformed into more than just a jewelry brand: the label now offers belts, watches and, most importantly, sunglasses. The shades are available now in three silhouettes—Margaux, Sloane, and Vittoria—and, frankly, they all exude this classic sophistication of yesteryear when sunglasses felt like they were crafted with intention and weight. I mean, let's be real—vintage sunglasses are always miles ahead but with these Heaven Mayhem pairs entering the fray, the competition is stiff

I knew Mance and her team were onto something when I met with the brand during Copenhagen Fashion Week. Over martinis and shared fries, she dished that the brand was expanding into eyewear. The Heaven Mayhem girl, Mance explained to me, wants it all—the Instagram-famous earrings, the cute laptop case, the classic belts, and now, the sleek sunglasses. The entire brand is built on coy coolness, so the step into sunglasses felt no different. After seeing all of the pairs during dinner in January, I instantly gravitated towards the optical Sloane frames. They're not quite completely clear (they have the slightest yellow tint to them, which appears more IRL than online!), but they still have the same chic girl vibe to them as the tinted pairs. Although I'm loyal to my daily contact lenses, putting in these frames during our dimly lit dinner had me all but ready to call my optometrist and place an order for prescription lenses to be swapped in.

Since then, I've been waiting in eager anticipation for the Sloane sunnies to hit the market. The style feels heavily reminiscent of Yves Saint Laurent's classic orange-tinged lenses the late designer wore throughout his life, an ode to a time of '80s glamour and opulence. Last season, Bella Hadid closed the Saint Laurent show in an eerily similar pair, cementing my obsession with tinted optical lenses.

Here are the specs: The Sloane glasses retail for $190 and are made of heavy acetate. (There's no need for a sunglasses chain—these aren't flying off of your head!) The top of the frame is straight and angular, giving off a retro look without feeling too dated. Above all, they feel akin to luxury sunglasses from major design houses. These days, a simple, well-made, high-end pair of designer sunglasses might cost you over $600, not including tax. Ringing in just shy of $200, the Heaven Mayhem pairs are a steal.

It's not just me, though. Although I fell in love with the Sloane sunnies at first sight that fateful night in January, I took the whole collection for a test-run over the next few days. My fellow Who What Wear editors also jumped in—testing out the brand's expensive-looking aviators (Vittoria, most likely named after model Vittoria Ceretti) and the teensie, L.A.-approved style, Margaux.

"I’m not much of a trench girl so when I thought about finally trying one out this spring I thought I’d have to go for a classic, and it doesn’t get much more classic than a Burberry trench. Because of the price point I had high expectations for this new iteration of Burberry’s classic style, and I have to say, it came through on almost all of my criteria. Maybe it’s because it's the heritage brands' signature check, but the tartan lining definitely makes this jacket feel luxurious as soon as you put it on.

I really liked the details on the fastenings, and although the excess of buttons will mean you need to put at least 5 minutes aside before leaving the house, once completely done up I felt extra chic in the look. Kind of like a hot Inspector Gadget! My only negative would probably be the fit—I’m wearing a small here and would probably size up as the fabrication doesn’t give a lot of leeway, and I’d want to be able to layer sweatshirts and tops underneath such a premium piece to maximise its styling potential. I know it’s not the cheapest coat on the site, but the extra expense is justified for the 72% wool (28% polyester) and just how premium it makes an outfit look—it really elevates any outfit worn beneath it. As part of Mango’s latest Western edit—which I can’t get enough of—I love the fringed hemline at the bottom and the detachable scarf (which also has a fringe trim). For me, these details subtly allude to the Western trend and add something a bit different to an otherwise simple outerwear staple but don’t go so far you can’t consider it timeless. Composed of 72% wool, the coat was aptly insulating, keeping me cosy even when only wearing a T-shirt underneath. Naturally, my favourite part of the camel coat was the detachable hood, which perfectly fit my head and would still work comfortably even if wearing my hair in a ponytail or if styling a hat.

"I sized down for a neat finish, and it hugged my shoulders nicely, but if you’re looking for a coat that you can wear on top of a woolly knit, then I suggest you take your normal size. I'm 5’7”, and the coat fell to my mid-calf, which felt like the perfect length, but if you’re any shorter, you might find that it needs to be altered a little. Beyond the cosy fit, COS really nailed the perfect warm camel shade—so easy to slot into a capsule wardrobe. I really felt that this coat offered so much styling potential. After scanning through the seriously good selection, I finally settled on the Oversized Maxi Coat. One thing that drew me to it was just how expensive it looked even though it comes in at just £75, and as coats go, this is a really reasonable price. The dark-grey shade is really versatile, as a black coat may be but with that slight tone difference that sets it apart, letting it be the perfect accompaniment to all shades. It's the finer details that make this coat feel so premium, from the collar tab for an extra element of defence when the coldest weather set in to the vertical side pockets that maintain the streamlined silhouette. I fell in love with the chocolate-brown hue and knew that it would go with everything in my wardrobe, and from the minute I tried it on, I was so impressed with the quality. The coat itself feels thick and heavy (so perfect for keeping warm in winter!), and I was pleased to see that it was made from over 50% wool. It has an oversize fit, which I was originally a bit wary about, as I usually only buy petite coats (I'm 5'1"), but I was pleasantly surprised by how it looked, and I liked the fact that I could adjust the waist thanks to the tie waistband. It was a little bit long on the arms but nothing that my local tailor can't fix. "I had been eyeing up this Frankie Shop coat for a long time before I made the plunge, and I am SO glad I did. Earlier this year, I was on the hunt for a classic black coat that would go with everything, whether it was to throw over gym clothes or to wear to an important work meeting, and the Gaia style fits the bill perfectly. I wear a medium, and yes, it is very oversize, with shoulder-pad inserts to exaggerate the shape even more. I'd normally wear a dress size 12 or 14, so I would consider a large in a coat, but the medium is just roomy enough, letting me wear jumpers and even blazers underneath without bunching up or pulling. The Gaia is also a maxi style, so probably not a good option if you're petite! For reference, I'm 5'7", and it hits me just at my ankle.

"Quality-wise, this is well worth the price tag in my opinion. It's warm, thick (but not too thick) and has a lovely logo detail on the buttons. It is, however, not 100% wool, but instead a wool-blend with a 20% mix of polyamide (a synthetic material that is often added to winter coats for insulation but also to bring down costs). There's a lining, although that is polyester satin, and deep pockets, which are essential in my eyes. It's not the most affordable style out there, but if you want to invest in your winter wardrobe like me and are looking for a coat that will literally never go out of style, I think this is worth it. If you want a slightly oversize look, I would recommend sticking to your usual size. It has a '60s silhouette that's slightly shorter than my other winter coats, but styled on the website with a matching dress set, it looks really chic. It also comes in Cream and Lipstick (a deeper statement red perfect for party season), but I styled the grey with an everyday look of Reformation's Wilder jeans and a knit, and the coat made the outfit feel more put-together—something I would wear from day to night. "I first wore this Rixo coat during Paris Fashion Week and had multiple French people stop me in the street and in stores to ask me about it or compliment me on it—when you have Europe's chicest people interested, then I think it's an investment well made. Yes, leopard is trending (again) for A/W 24, but I would argue that this is a classic style that will last for many winters to come. Thanks to its swingy A-line shape, neat collar, longline silhouette and muted leopard print, this has a vintage feel and can be translated into wardrobes with wildly different personal styles.

"The fabric isn't too heavy, so this makes a great autumn coat and could work on chillier days with knits and boots and tights. I probably wouldn't wear it in the depths of winter—I'd be more likely to reach for shearling or something padded—but it can always be guaranteed to elevated the plainest of outfits. "Chances are you’ve already seen myriad of people on your IG feed in the iconic Toteme scarf jacket, but the longline coat is new for 2024, and mark my words: It’s going to be just as popular. It’s made from a wool and recycled-wool blend and features the classic shawl collar with scarf detailing and contrast stitching across the panels of the original. When it comes to the sizing, this is definitely on the roomy side. I’m wearing an EU 38 and could easily go down a size, but overall the relaxed silhouette means you can fit plenty of layers underneath it to help stay cosy. It fastens with buttons, and you can wrap the scarf around the neck or leave it loose. I think if you are taller than me (so 5’6" and above), this would maybe sit at an odd part of the calf, but for my frame I find the length to be perfect.

"This winter, I'm all about burgundy tones, so I instantly fell in love with this vinyl coat from Kitri. It's such an easy shade to wear, especially as I'm trying to break out of wearing black, and it goes so well with both the lighter and darker neutrals in my wardrobe. The coat itself is warm enough when layered up, so it's one I'll be turning to constantly throughout the really chilly months. I opted for a UK 8 and can say that the style fits true to size. However, the cut is relaxed enough that I'll be able to fit my chunky knits under when the temperature drops, but not so oversize that it looks too big on me. It does come with a buckled belt, but I also plan to wear it without as it looks great both ways. I also really like that it comes with removable fur cuffs and a collar. As fashion editors, we're often asked what to wear for different events (and if you're looking for wedding guest dresses, party looks or dinner outfits, we've got you covered), but the one thing I'm asked about the most is what to wear to work. You might think this would be easy to answer, but after lockdown threw our routines out of sync, as soon as I started going back into the office I realised for myself how easy it was to fall into the same cycle of jumper, trousers and loafers that quickly begins to feel a little bit samey.

So, as soon as news of a new Studio Collection landed, I wanted to find out more—could this be the elevated yet affordable capsule we've been hoping for to upgrade our spring wardrobes? I talked to Linda Wikell, concept designer at H&M Studio, about what's making H&M look so good these days and why the Studio collection is even better.

"We launched H&M Studio just over 10 years ago as a standalone collection developed by a dedicated design team at our Stockholm atelier. It’s our most fashion-forward collection, created in durable, high-quality materials at an affordable price," Wikell told me ahead of the collection's latest launch. "[Over] the last decade we’ve released two collections per year, in line with the international fashion calendar, [and] then last year, for the 10th anniversary, we decided to expand the concept and release a series of drops throughout the year under the H&M Studio umbrella. It’s a line with a distinct personality, always with elements of bold tailoring, beautiful evening dresses and eclectic accessories in beautiful fabrics and materials, with a real attention to detail and an emphasis on versatile designs."

So, in short, don't expect T-shirts and leggings from this capsule—this drop is about upping your game whilst still looking effortless. Win, win. And what was the inspiration behind spring 2024? "For S/S '24 we envisaged a 1970s musician on the road, taking pieces from her tour wardrobe, borrowing a jacket from her best friend, a dress from her mother and mixing it all up in her own way. We wanted the collection to have a feeling of freedom and lightness. We were thinking of dusty landscapes and blue skies for the colour palette and relaxed shapes for the silhouettes, with an easy, chic vibe. As I mentioned, we always try to design super-versatile pieces that go into your existing wardrobe and can be worn in lots of different ways, so for S/S '24, there are some great wardrobe heroes that [make for] a bold look on their own or can be layered up to make more of a statement," says Wikell.

And statement pieces there are. Alongside the shirts, skirts and tailoring we'd hoped for are some standout moments I'm already preparing to see all over my socials in the coming months. But as bold as they may be, there's still longevity to these core pieces, as H&M is investing in staples that will work hard in your wardrobe for a long time to come (and the wide-leg trousers I bought three years ago and still wear are a testament to that). "More than ever, we’re aiming to design great fashion to help you express yourself. It’s less about trends [and] more about personal style, creating pieces you’ll love and cherish and want to wear again and again," notes Wikell. "These are wardrobe favourites that make you feel like the best version of yourself."

The best way to test this? Try it all on, of course. And as a fussy shopper, I have to say that I'm truly impressed. From the maxi coat that made me audibly gasp to the leather shorts I was unconvinced about on the rail but loved wearing, I got to try on my pick of H&M's Studio collection, and I can report that most of the pieces passed this fashion editor's test. 1. Pale Blue Leather Trench Coat

Style Notes: Okay, this has to be one of those coats that everyone is going to love. Whether you're a classic dresser who always has a trench at the ready, a fashion-forward magpie who is drawn to premium polish or a fan of bright colours who believes in the power of dopamine dressing, there's just something about this sky-blue trench that would make anyone instantly happier. Although it has a pleasing weight (it isn't paper-thin), it's also the kind of perfect spring layer that you can put on over any outfit and be ready to go In fact, this coat is the outfit. When the high street is full of hundreds of cotton camel trenches, there's very little difference between a good one and a great one, but this has me convinced that pale blue is actually far more versatile than you might assume. It's also a key colour trend from the S/ S'24 runways, so expect this to be major over the next few months.

2. Oversized Jumper and Leather Shorts

Style Notes: As previously mentioned, I'm not 100% sold on shorts—love them for everyone else, less so for me. Being bottom-heavy, I'm used to being comfy in loose skirts and wide-leg trousers, and shorts leave no room for hiding anything, but I'm pleased to say that stepping out of my comfort zone led to the discovery of this leather pair. Longer in the leg and with a roomier fit, you could pull these up to the waist or have them sat lower on the hips—they're just as comfortable as drawstring joggers but with a far dressier finish. Adding this super-light mohair knit makes the outfit feel like something I would wear to work and could also easily repeat on the weekend, just with a change of shoes. So, consider me converted to "styled-up shorts"; they'll make far more sense than leather trousers when the weather warms up.

3. Maxi Coat and Snake-Print Dress

Style Notes: This coat was the first piece I saw from the collection and it set my expectations very high. Whilst you might expect such boxy, oversized tailoring from the likes of The Frankie Shop or Raey, it's not always easy to find it executed well on the high street, but this coat is proof that it can be done (I actually saw this coat worn closed with a skinny belt in the campaign images and assumed it was designer). Because it's so roomy you can easily get chunky knitwear underneath, but for spring, I want something a little lighter, and this snake-print dress does the job. Okay, you might not work in the kind of office where a V-neck minidress is an obvious choice, but imagine it with a turtleneck underneath or a slouchy knit on top. With this one dress, you can create numerous day, night, and party looks, so that's pretty good bang for your buck.

4. Green Suit and Collared Shirt

Style Notes: I'm a sucker for a suit, but I understand why the formal co-ord might not be to everyone's taste. If you find the thought of a work suit too "stuffy", here's an alternative: fresh, fun tailoring in just the right shade of spring green that's still subtle enough to be considered a neutral. A blazer is a wardrobe staple for good reason, and you could wear this again with dark denim jeans, midi skirts, dresses… the list goes on. The fit is just as relaxed as that of the coat (and I welcome the return of big shoulders), and should you be looking for a top to wear it with that has more interest than a plain white tee, try this collared shirt. The exaggerated details are the key to it looking so expensive.

5. Sleeveless Jacket

Style Notes: Now this is what Wikell means by "fashion-forward"—the kind of piece that we might not have come up with ourselves but once we see it, we immediately love it. If someone had suggested a sleeveless cargo-waistcoat-meets-jacket to me, I would have wondered how it could be worn in a way that wasn't safari-coded, and the answer is with structured trousers. Trying it on with my own pinstripe trousers worked well, but there's also a remarkably similar pair in the collection, as well as a pair of pleated, sand-coloured kick-flares that would be so good with this and some chunky, flat sandals. Is it summer yet?

6. Pinstripe Shirt

Style Notes: Ask anyone to assemble the dream workwear capsule and one thing you'll find in the mix is an Oxford button-down. The post-lockdown 2020s have been all about sized-up and unbuttoned shirts tucked into jeans—or more recently, pencil skirts—and if you've been wearing the same white or blue shirt on rotation, you might be tempted by a pinstripe iteration that's just as versatile. I decided to keep things "business-casual" with trainers, as they make the smart print feel cooler than pointy heels, but the beauty of this wardrobe hero is that you can wear it all year round, and with just about anything. Summer? Try it open over a tank top with shorts and sandals. Autumn? Under a knitted tank with a skirt and knee-high boots; and in winter, a chunky knit. Of course, right now, it's a trench and jeans. There's no need to size up, and it's already got the perfect laid-back fit.

Let's be honest: jeans shopping can be incredibly difficult. Since everybody is unique and there are thousands of different jean trends out there, the chances of picking up 'the one' can seem extremely low. Finding your perfect pair of everyday jeans is basically like the modern dating scene. A wide-leg jean is someone who is reliable and, ultimately, will be the kind of person you take home to your parent. A straight-leg, however, is the type of person who will indulge you with a gorgeous first date somewhere like Nina in Marylebone, but might play hard to get. A barrel-leg is the quintessential multi-hyphenate (see: DJ, photographer, creative director, chef) and might be hard to pin down. Indigo jeans are romantic and soft, despite being a little uncommunicative at times. A low-rise is like the first person who broke your heart—a little bit naughty, still kind of have feelings for, but certainly want to leave in the past.

The internet offers up plenty of options (some more legit than others) and you might even get a recommendation or two from friends. But you only really find out if there's a spark by trying them out. This trial-and-error process is time-consuming to say the least, and can be damaging for self-esteem when things don't go smoothly.

1. Best High-Street Jeans: H&M Wide High Jeans

My Review: This exact pair from H&M have long been a best-seller for our Who What Wear readers. In fact, they’ve been the most popular product on site for the last couple of months. Not only that, I’ve heard so many of my colleagues raving about them, so I ordered them a few weeks ago to see what all the fuss was about, and they didn’t disappoint. The fit is fantastic, and they have that very cool hang to them, which really reminds me of the much more expensive Citizens of Humanity Ayla Jeans (further down on this list.) With a slimmer fit at the hip and bum, they then have a lovely wide drape down to the floor, which creates a really flattering wide-leg silhouette. I often find myself in between an 8-10, so sized up for a more relaxed fit here. They’re really comfortable as a result, without looking too ‘big’ for me, and while they are long on my 5'2" frame, I loved that you can just roll up and cuff them to wear with flats. The denim is thin and light, though, which is a sacrifice you often have to make when paying an affordable price. They wash well, but I do have to send them through a cycle just to get the shape back after one or two wears.

2. Best Affordable Jeans: M&S The Wide-Leg Jeans

My Review: M&S jeans were put on this earth to answer the hopes and prayers of all, particularly short or tall people. With four length options, their jeans are pretty much guaranteed to fit you perfectly, so no more annoying trips to the tailor. Here I'm wearing the wide-leg in a size 10 short length (at 5'2" height), and they hit just above the floor when I'm wearing flats (a feat that rarely ever happens. No more dirty, ripped hems for me!)

Even with the affordable price, the denim at M&S always feels like great quality—these have gold hardware and a nice sturdy weight to them, which helps to keep the wide shape, making them feel smart rather than too baggy and relaxed. They still feel really soft with a nice bit of stretch, though, allowing for maximum comfort. The waist sits high, and I'd say they fit on the smaller side (at least in the shorter length), so you may want to size up if you're in between sizes. Flattering, affordable and stylish, what more could you want from a pair of jeans? With over 1,970 five-star reviews online, it's clearly not just me that's a big fan either.

3. Best Straight-Leg Jeans: COS Chord Straight-Leg Jeans

My Review: COS jeans have always been my favourite, but I didn’t expect to fall this hard for a pair of straight-leg jeans. However, COS’s Chord style has genuinely earned a permanent place in my wardrobe. The fit feels instantly polished, slim and streamlined without being restrictive, with a subtle ’90s, French-leaning feel that makes every outfit look more put together. They hit at just the right ankle length, feel incredibly comfortable, and work just as easily with loafers and knitwear as they do dressed up with tailoring. In short, they’re the kind of timeless, capsule-wardrobe denim you end up reaching for on repeat.

4. Best Luxury Jeans: Citizens of Humanity Ayla Jeans

My Review: There's no denying that the Ayla jeans are extremely cool. Every stylish fashion person I follow seems to own them and, most revealingly, wears them on repeat. They've definitely been the premium jean of choice for the last few years, so it's clear they have staying power beyond a flash-in-the-pan trend moment. Marianne McDonald, Creative Director of Citizens of Humanity, confirmed this to me, saying, "The Ayla is one of the best-selling fits that we had really strong, immediate reactions to across global markets. The style has been in the collection for a few seasons now, and we don’t see it slowing down."

If I'm honest, I'd been wondering what all the fuss was about, especially as someone who usually swears by high street denim. Now I've tried them? I totally get it. They just hang beautifully. Loose and slouchy but slimmer at the hips for the most flattering fit. McDonald advised me on fit, too, saying "The Ayla can be worn baggy (true to size) or worn a bit higher on the hip if you size down." I personally love the option to cuff or roll them so you can tailor the length to suit you and style them for the day with trainers, or uncuff them with an incredible pair of heels at night.

I opted for a size 28 here (true to size), and I could perhaps size down one, given my petite stature, as there is a lot of material left at the leg and a little space at the hips.

All in all, from the second you slip them on, they already feel like your most-loved pair of jeans.

5. Best Vintage-Inspired Jeans: Agolde '90s Pinch Waist Cropped Straight-Leg Jeans

My Review: According to Karen Phelps, Creative Director of AGOLDE, the '90s Pinch Waist is the brand's best-selling fit. In her own words, it has "a flattering, high-rise waist, close-fitting through the hips... an easy, classic straight leg with endless versatility." And I couldn't agree more. If you're after the ultimate straight-leg jean, don't sleep on this style.

Here I actually sized up to a 29 as I'd heard AGOLDE jeans can sometimes come up small, but they were definitely too big on me. While a lot of styles these days can benefit from a size up to give that slouchier, cooler look, I don't think that's the case for the '90s Pinch Waist, as I just found there to be too much material around the crotch and gaping at the waist. My advice would be to stick to your true size or even size down, as you really want that close-fitting, flattering hug around the stomach and bum to get the full effect with this design. As you can see, they're also not that "cropped" on me. I think this style really looks best when it hits right at the ankle (making them really easy to wear with loads of different shoe styles, from trainers to ballet flats and sandals), so I think I would have to have these taken up slightly to suit my shorter height. Tall girls rejoice, though, as there's this cropped option and a classic full-length version of the Pinch Waist to try, too.

The denim is of beautiful quality, and you definitely get what you pay for here. This wash has a slight yellow tinge to it, which gives a really cool lived-in vintage vibe, although I prefer a crisper blue in my everyday jeans, so I might try the dark denim option next time. Ultimately, I just love that they are a really versatile anti-trend jean you can dress up and down, that will truly stand the test of time. Find your perfect fit, and they're a worthy investment in my eyes.

6. Best Cropped Jeans: Levi's Ribcage Straight Ankle Jeans

My Review: This is another pair of jeans I've had for years, and they're still my most worn in current rotation. These are the no-stretch denim, as I wanted a classic Thelma & Louise vintage look (IYKYK), but they also do plenty of colour ways with low and medium stretch options too, if comfort is your number one consideration. I actually own this exact pair in two lengths, the 27 and the 29, as I prefer wearing the shorter length with trainers and the longer length with a heel or heeled boot (I did tell you I wear jeans all the time).

As you'd expect, Levi's do a bloody excellent pair of jeans, and this Ribcage style is endlessly flattering with a high waist and 5 button fastening that hugs and supports in all the right places. I also love that the hem on these is nice and stiff, so it keeps its shape, whatever shoes you pair with it. I may be biased, but they're win-win all around for me.

7. Best Slim-Cut Jeans: Arket Jade Cropped Slim Jeans

My Review: Look, I've owned these jeans for about four years and they've never let me down. As you can see, after a tonne of washes they still basically look and feel brand new. They're a slim straight leg with a slight taper, so if you're a skinny jeans disciple looking for an alternative, Arket's Jade jeans are a great option to ease you into a slightly looser ankle. I find the slim ankle really flattering, and it sits well over a chunky ankle or heeled boot, as well as showing off the ankle when wearing sandals. The sizing is on the smaller side, so while they have stretch I would try sizing up for a bit more comfort. And while they say cropped, as you can see on my petite leg length they still come up lower than the ankle. In my opinion these work really well in a denim collection as a slightly smarter classic blue jean.

What to Look for When Shopping for Jeans

While it's important to keep in mind the quality of the fabric, sustainable credentials and brand reliability, fit is perhaps the most important thing to look for when shopping for jeans. Whether it's a straight-leg jean, wide-leg jean, cropped or skinny jean you're after, you ultimately want them to feel great. What 'great' means to you might differ from the next person. You might want a stiffer, vintage-feel denim that hugs your body in in all the right places, or a softer more comfortable style with a bit of stretch that acts as a second skin when you're wearing them day and night. Of course, the problem with jeans is that they fit every body in a different way, hitting the leg at different points depending on your height and leg length, as well as potentially squeezing or gaping on the hips, bum or waist on everyone differently.

With this being said, I should caveat this whole article with the fact that I can obviously only give my personal experience and offer my expertise on what that means for other body shapes. For reference I'm 5'2", roughly a size 10 (which can swing from an 8-12 depending on brand) with a slight pear shape in that my weight (especially post-baby) mostly sits on my tummy, hips and thighs. I hope that can offer some context to this try on and help you judge for yourselves how the fit might compare on your own bodies.

You might not be on board with argyle knits, sweater vests and corduroy, but there's a lot to love about a chunky-soled loafer with just enough distressed detail to look vintage—just ask Zara. Style Notes: What we're calling the "office siren" aesthetic in 2024, you may recognise as simple power dressing. What are the Main Differences Between the Different Types of Leggings?

The leggings market is one of the most oversaturated in the industry. Between inseams, lengths, fabrics and finishes, it's a struggle to know where to begin when shopping for pants, let alone know what to look out for when buying a good quality pair. "The main differences lie in fabric feel, support level, and intended activity," explains Another Version founder Shelley Cook. "[The brand] designs leggings for real life—whether that’s a workout, a long walk, or a full day of errands," she continues.

"Our Second Skin Leggings are our all-time best sellers, and for good reason. These are buttery, lightweight, and made for all-day wear. Our Ribbed Sculpt leggings offer a compressive, stay-put fit more suited for high-intensity movement, but still maintain a good balance of structure and stretch."

The primary difference ultimately comes down to the level of exercise you're doing when wearing leggings. For pulse-racing HIIT classes, you'll want to look for something more sculpting, while low-impact workouts can benefit from a softer finish.

How Can you Find What Legging Length Suits you Best?

Finding the right legging length comes down to your "height, proportions and how you want them to fit and feel," explains Hars. Typically, legging lengths are one of the following: full length, 7/8, crop and capri. As the name suggests, full-length hits right at the ankle, while 7/8 falls between your joint and the bottom of your calf. Crop finishes right around your muscle, and capri is a true three-quarter length.

"Full-length leggings (28" and above) suit longer legs, while 7/8 length (typically 24"–26") flatter most people and hit just above the ankle," explains Cook. "If you’re unsure, start with 7/8—they’re the most universally flattering in our opinion.

What Specific Activities Suit Different Types of Leggings Best?

Whether you're running to the gym or heading to brunch after a boxing class, specific workouts benefit from wearing specific leggings. Just like you wouldn't wear jeans to a spin class, there are specific materials that complement best and can actually enhance performance.

"The right leggings depend on your activity and desired look and feel," Hars tells me.

"For Pilates, yoga, and gym workouts, a snug, supportive fit with light compression and four-way stretch fabric offers flexibility and stability," she adds. "For running or higher-impact workouts, more compressive fabrics can help reduce bounce and fatigue. For slower movement, recovery, or lounging, cotton blends prioritise breathability and comfort over compression."

What Should You Look Out for When Buying Leggings?

If you're not testing the stretch and sheerness of leggings in person, there are a few tell-tale signs that you can look out for when shopping for the best styles online. "When it comes to performance leggings, the fabric composition might look similar on paper, but quality can vary significantly depending on construction, weight, texture, and finish," Hars notes. "Even among polyester-spandex blends, key differences in weaving, thread types, and treatments greatly affect how the fabric feels, performs, and looks," she continues.

So, where to start? "Consider how you want the leggings to feel," she explains. "Some fabrics offer a brushed finish with a cosy hand feel, while others have a sleeker, more technical look—perfect for a sculpted, elevated appearance."

Compression is another key factor. "Do you prefer a held-in, sculpting effect or a softer, more flexible fit?" Hars asks. "High-quality leggings offer excellent stretch and recovery, move naturally with your body, and maintain their shape after wear. Look for flat seams and always ensure the fabric is squat-proof."

"Ultimately, it’s about finding a pair that fits how you want to move, feel, and look," she reminds me. This is something Cook agrees with: "When leggings feel comfortable and luxurious but hold you in, that’s a sign of quality. We stand by feeling like the best, most confident version of yourself when you put on a pair of our leggings."

How Can you Tell If a Pair of Leggings are Good Quality?

There are also small indicators that give away whether a pair of leggings are good or bad. According to Cook, these pointers include: "A waistband that stays up, fabric that doesn't go sheer when stretched, and seams that don’t dig in or chafe. If it feels good from the moment you put it on, you're on the right track." Hars mentions a few other factors.

"High-quality leggings feel smooth and balanced in weight, not flimsy or overly shiny," she adds. "When stretched, the fabric should hold its shape without becoming see-through or loose. Examine the stitching and waistband. The seams should be clean, flat, and reinforced, and the waistband should hold without digging in or rolling down. Good leggings recover well after wear, returning to their original shape. Most importantly, try them on to experience comfort and support."

What are the Best Materials for Leggings?

You may notice that a lot of leggings brands use a lot of synthetic materials, but fear not. It's often the case that hybrid material blends make for the best leggings fabrics for a few reasons. "A blend of nylon and elastane is a top choice because it offers durability, stretch, and a smooth finish," Cook advises. "Nylon is breathable and resists wear, while elastane adds that perfect stretch-and-recovery."

If you're planning on working up a stretch, activewear leggings can also benefit from being made of "high-quality recycled polyester blended with spandex". According to Hars, this combination offers "durability, sweat-wicking properties, shape retention, and the right level of sculpting and stretch". "It’s technical enough to support movement while feeling smooth against the skin, perfect for that elevated, performance-meets-comfort feel," she adds. "For low-impact or lounging activities, organic cotton blends with a touch of elastane offer softness and breathability, though less sculpting."

What is the Best Way to Wash Your Leggings?

To preserve and extend the life of your leggings, Hars suggests "turning them inside out before washing to protect the fabric and maintain colour and stretch." You should also avoid using water that is scorching hot. Rather, she explains to "use a cold, gentle cycle and avoid fabric softeners, which can break down performance fibres over time." Once all washed, Cook tells me that letting them to air dry will help leggings keep their shape better. "Skip the dryer and lay flat or hang to dry. This protects elasticity, colour, and shape, keeping them looking newer for longer."

What is the Difference Between Leggings and Yoga Pants?

Yoga pants are an alternative to leggings that many celebrities like Kendall Jenner and Hailey Bieber have begun gravitating toward to. But what actually are they, and how are yoga pants different to leggings? "Leggings are typically tighter throughout and come in various fabrics and fits for both lifestyle and athletic wear. Yoga pants traditionally have a flared or bootcut leg and are made for movement with softer, brushed fabrics," Cook outlines. "These days, the lines blur, but leggings tend to be more versatile for both workouts and streetwear."

Is it Okay to Wear Leggings Every Day?

One of the biggest questions I get asked as a fashion editor is whether it's truly fine to wear leggings every day. When I sounded this question off around the Who What Wear team, the responses were varied. To some, this look feels a little too relaxed, while others think it's perfectly fine, as long as some consideration and care is put into elevating a staple part of the activewear uniform. The subject that is so polarising that it's often espoused that French women conspicuously change into leggings once they get to their workout class to avoid being seen in public wearing them. But we let the experts weigh in on this topic to get a full rounded answer.

"[Wearing leggings everyday is a hill we die on!" says Cook. "Today’s leggings are designed to move with you, support you, and keep you comfortable all day. A good pair of quality black leggings is an essential in any capsule wardrobe and can be endlessly styled." Hars, not too unsurprisingly, also agrees.
