With two decades in Hollywood under her belt, Who What Wear December cover star Amanda Seyfried certainly knows a thing or two about how to garner publicity. It's a skill that's likely coming in handy with not one but two movies coming out this month. That said, the actress clarified in our exclusive interview that not all of her decisions are made with headlines in mind.

For instance, back in September, Seyfried walked the red carpet at the 2025 Venice Film Festival wearing the same head-to-toe Versace outfit that Julia Roberts had just worn to the same event three days prior. The press had a field day, calling it a bold fashion risk and implying that Seyfried did it for attention. The truth, however, was pretty simple: Seyfried just thought it was a cool outfit. Nothing more, nothing less. "It's funny that that would be considered brave or ballsy because I'm just wearing something that was worn because it's a cool outfit!" she told Who What Wear. So that settles it: It was not a calculated decision, but rather a good old-fashioned case of outfit admiration. To celebrate Who What Wear UK's 10th birthday, we had to take a look back at the most iconic fashion week moments that have captivated us over the past decade. Over the years, we've seen it all, having attended countless runway shows in London, Paris, Milan and New York, reviewed numerous collections and revelled in (and shopped!) the biggest trends each season brought. What fun!

Our all-seeing fashion eye has picked apart every show from 2015 till now, and we've curated the best-of list. From the return of '90s supermodels at Versace to an endless pink runway at Jacquemus and seeing double at Gucci, there have been so many jaw-dropping moments, but only 10 could make the cut. It's not up for debate: these are the 10 most iconic runway shows of the past 10 years. Let's get into it!

The 10 Most Iconic Fashion Runways from the Past Decade

1. Chanel A/W 17

Karl Lagerfeld's tenure at Chanel delivered so many iconic moments, and one of the most impressive shows in recent memory was staged at Paris's famous Grand Palais. From a hyper-real supermarket to a man-made beach and an Arctic landscape to a Parisienne brasserie, nothing was too ambitious for Lagerfeld's wild imagination. Our favourite, however, was the space-station set for the women's autumn/winter 2017 show, complete with a Chanel-emblazoned rocket ship, which seemingly took off through the ceiling as models wore NASA-inspired looks. Think silver glittery boots, classic boucle twin sets and galaxy-print dresses as Elton John's "Rocket Man" played through the speakers. Beyond!

2. Versace S/S 18

Donatella Versace is undoubtedly one of the most legendary figures in fashion. For the House of Versace's spring/summer 2018 show, she honoured her late brother and House founder, Gianni, presenting a collection that played to his iconic prints, use of gold and sexy silhouettes; with a finale that saw a whole host of supermodels pay homage. Striding down the runway herself, Versace was joined by Carla Bruni, Claudia Schiffer, Naomi Campbell, Cindy Crawford and Helena Christensen, harking back to George Michael's hit song "Freedom! '90" and its accompanying music video, in which many of these supers featured. Nothing will ever come close to this heartfelt and special moment.

3. Jacquemus S/S 20

Simon Porte Jacquemus started his eponymous label in 2009, dedicated to his late mother. The virility of his designs skyrocketed him into mainstream popularity, with playful handbags, enormous hats and skin-revealing ready-to-wear. For his spring/summer 2020 show, the brand's 10th anniversary collection, Jacquemus staged a co-ed runway show within the lavender fields of the French countryside, a couple of miles from his childhood home. Models strutted down a seemingly endless carpet of fuchsia pink, flanked by rows of purple lavender—both hues are synonymous with the brand. Mixing colour-pop brights, muted neutrals, printed scenic landscapes and watercolour florals, the show and its collection were completely and utterly striking and cemented Jacquemus' place in the fashion, social and pop-culture spaces. Needless to say, we were tickled pink!

4. Loewe A/W 22

Since Jonathan Anderson took the creative director reins at Loewe in 2013, with a tenure lasting a whopping 11 years, things were never again the same. Embuing art, craft and high-concept design into all of his collections for the House, the Irish designer has not only become a (fashion) household name, but has managed to firmly place Loewe at the top of the list of the most desirable designer labels of now. For the brand's spring/ summer 2022 show, he employed surrealist shapes, extreme drapery, backwards-worn garments and high-shine metal breastplates. Accessories, too, tapped into pop-art themes, with heels resembling roses, birthday-cake candles and broken eggs. Not only was this collection extremely directional, forward-thinking and fun, but it was also super wearable. Kendall Jenner gave this it serious celebrity kudos when she was famously spotted in one of the jersey tank dresses, with an all-over digital print of fuzzy colours.

5. Miu Miu S/S 22

When Miu Miu launched its spring/summer 2022 collection, you couldn't walk a mile without seeing one of its looks on the cover of every magazine on the stands of your local newsagent or supermarket. The collection was applauded for its preppy suiting, poplin shirts, cable knits, pleated twill skirts and flashes of logo-adornded lingerie, many pieces of which were slashed and cut to show off abs, legs and undies, in typical bad-school-girl style. Mixing sexiness, structure, sportiness and pretty 3-D florals, this collection was a Miuccia classic. This is where the much-hyped New Balance sneaker collab was previewed, which has since become every influencer's favourite off-duty trainer of choice. Now, everyone, "Thank you, Mrs Prada!"

6. Bottega Veneta S/S 23

Matthieu Blazy had a brief but successful three-year stint at Bottega Veneta before moving to the powerhouse that is Chanel. His spring/summer 2023 show at Bottega was truly spectacular, tapping artist and architect Gaetano Pesce to craft a kaleidoscopic poured-resin floor and handmake around 400 unique chairs for guests, all of which have become collector's items. Some of the standout looks from the collection appeared quite simple and understated, but a closer look revealed many pieces crafted from soft, luxurious leather for a trompe-l'œil effect. Kate Moss's normcore outfit, consisting of a plaid shirt, white tank and jeans, also played with deception by tapping into the craving for quiet luxury at the time in an unexpected way. The look remains a mainstay on every fashion enthusiast's mood board to this day.

7. Gucci S/S 23

Only Alessandro Michele could send 68 pairs of identical twins down a runway. Yes, you read that correctly! Never one to miss an opportunity for theatricality and the wow-factor, Michele's time at Gucci was full of jaw-dropping moments that no one else could re-create if they tried (see the Aria, Love Parade and Cosmogonie collections). The Twinsburg show of spring/summer 2023 stunned guests and fans alike. Models took to the runway in typical Michele fashion (think decadent prints, pussy-bows, monogram handbags, '80s suiting and bucket-loads of sequins)—but double it. Only at the show's finale did the curtain rise to reveal the paired looks and their twin models, who came together in single file holding hands. Inspired by Michele's mother and her twin sister, this show was mesmerising and mind-bogglingly good.

8. Simone Rocha S/S 24

Simone Rocha debuted her eponymous line at London Fashion Week in September 2010. 15 years on, and the label is still one of the biggest, most exciting moments on the fashion month calendar, and always the hottest ticket in town. Known for her subversive yet pretty collections, full of pearl, ribbon and lace adornments, Rocha has become a celebrity favourite, with the likes of Alexa Chung, Bel Powley and Fiona Shaw lining up to wear her collections on the red carpet and have their turn on the runway for her. The spring/summer 2024 show featured pink roses throughout, some held by models and some sewn into the bodices of dresses. Sarah Jessica Parker wore a dress-and-coat ensemble from this very collection in an episode of And Just Like That..., further cementing Rocha's merit in the fashion sphere and wider public eye.

9. Maison Margiela S/S 24

Celebrated designer John Galliano's final show at Maison Margiela, after 10 years as creative director at the esteemed house, was the talking point of many a fashion and beauty group chat for weeks after it was presented. A little X-rated and a lot of exoticism (Galliano's potent combination), models danced, staggered and gingerly stepped through the underbelly of Paris's streets, inspired by the images of Hungarian–French photographer Brassaï. The haute couture spring/ summer 2024 collection featured corsets, sheer dresses and 1920s doll-like suits, with Pat McGrath's famous painterly makeup set with a spray lacquer to give a high-shine, glass-skin finish. Gwendoline Christie's marionette-like walk for the finale look was like poetry in motion. Truly unforgettable.

10. Saint Laurent S/S 25

Anthony Vaccarello has been nothing short of a hit-maker for Saint Laurent since his spring/summer 2017 debut, crafting a vision which is at once sexy, desirable and classic. It has become one of the most illustrious, trend-setting brands on the planet, and celebs and shoppers can't get enough. The spring/summer 2025 show meant serious business, with an array of sharp, exaggerated suits, complete with shirts, ties and '80s eyewear, resembling the brand's famed founder, Yves. Nostalgic but modern, dapper but wearable, stars such as Elsa Hosk and Rosie Huntington-Whiteley have since been spotted wearing these ensembles, fresh from the runway. Bella Hadid's black suit-and-tie combo was a standout, serving classic power suit. Hot!

Rooted in '80s bourgeois with a nod to Gianni Versace's '90s Miami Beach opulence, Dario Vitale's debut brought conversation-starting looks to Milan Fashion Week. The designer's first Versace collection ushered sex appeal and sensuality into fashion month with looks focused on embellished hot pants and gleaming metallic bra-and-skirt sets. Vibrant, off-kilter, conflicting colors signaled a shift in the tides and a swift change from neutrals to more dominant tones. Bourgeois fashion was reimagined and reinterpreted but considered the heritage of the Italian fashion house.

Though we have been anticipating the changing of the guard at fashion houses and discussing it in depth for spring/summer 2026, Versace was one of the first creative-director debuts of the season, and it signals a generational shift in fashion. Dario Vitale's Debut

Across fashion month for spring/summer 2026, there are upward of 15 designer debuts as new creative directors take the helm at some of the industry's biggest fashion houses. While there has been plenty of speculation about how the designer shake-ups would take hold this season, Vitale made a big impact with his first Versace collection. Vitale hails from Miu Miu, where he held the position of ready-to-wear design director and head of image, and he previously worked at Bottega Veneta under Tomas Maier. Vitale's vision for the Italian fashion brand is bold, cinematic, and fresh, and it's setting the tone for a new wave of change that will impact where style is headed next year.

Sex Appeal

Versace brought unabashed sex appeal to the runway in Milan. Metallic bra-and-skirt sets were unexpectedly paired with knit sweaters tied around the waist. Hot pants were topped off with knit sweaters and leather bomber jackets, and sheath dresses were sculpted to the body.

Conflicting Colors

Versace had a bourgeois '80s meets '90s Miami Beach palette, mixing shades such as lilac, butter yellow, kelly green, and cobalt in one look. The hues are conflicting and unintuitive, yet they work harmoniously together. We also saw these off-kilter color combinations at Prada and expect to see more bold shades for spring 2026 that cut through the neutrals that dominated in the age of quiet luxury and minimalism.

'80s Bourgeois Dressing

We've been discussing the rise of bourgeois style since Michael Rider's debut at Celine in July. Vitale mentioned the word "bourgeois" in his show notes and suggested that his version of Versace would offer a riff on the original interpretation by Gianni Versace. Vitale also mentioned that his interpretation was influenced by the '80s Versace clothing worn by his mother, which inspired the looks.

'90s Miami Beach Opulence

Of all of the Versace-isms, there was clear inspiration from Gianni Versace during his time in Miami Beach in the '90s. Vitale touched on the opulence, bold prints, and exuberance that defined that chapter for the Italian fashion house.

There are many things I love about Milan Fashion Week (the stylish women on the street, the craftspersonship of everything from clothing to combs, the aperitivo lifestyle!) but one that continues to astound me is how there is a series of leading brands that have held onto their identities and that those identities are like no other. You know what you're going to get at a Versace show and no other brand could even attempt to imitate. The same goes for Max Mara, Roberto Cavalli, Prada and so on—these brands have built their style DNA over time and now have an archive to consistently mine for newness, and they have the freedom to explore their codes over and over because shoppers are invested in that exact look.

"Possessed by the irreverent spirit of the House, archival memories—silhouettes, prints, materials—are cut up and repurposed into innovative manifestations," read the show notes. Indeed, last night's Versace show was about as Versace as they come. We're talking baroque prints, animalier, velvet, chainmail, dramatic outerwear, skin-tight tailoring and more (even the homeware pieces such as printed duvet covers were translated into fluffed-up puffer gowns), all in a 1980s-inspired colour palette of black set against deep purples, reds, yellows and... naturalmente, sparkle! As a Millennial who enjoys nothing more than a fashion flashback, some particularly nostalgic trends stood out on the dimly-lit runway staged in an old tram depot. And I'm sure that Versace's Gen Z front-row members like Ice Spice (or perhaps Lila Moss who took a turn on the runway) will appreciate how these confident looks can translate into red carpet, party or performance garms, reminiscent of the celebrities that shone before them.

Here, I chart the Versace autumn/winter 2025 show looks that tap into iconic throwback trends primed for a return.

1. Baroque Silk Shirts

Gianni Versace's signature look was a loose-fitting silk shirt emblazoned with the fashion house's instantly recognisable (and oft-copied) baroque prints in vibrant, contrasting colours.

They made a strong return for both men and women in the AW25 show, paired with everything from black trousers to ruched skirts, denim to leather pants. I expect to see a rise in searches for secondhand OG versions from early adopters of this comeback trend.

2. Chainmail Dresses

The chainmail dress is as Versace as things get for eveningwear, but where styles in the past have centered around handkerchief-style hems and draped cowl necks, next season's feel punky rendered in silver, sliced and diced together with other metallic fabrics and worn with studded bonnets. London Fashion Week's trend for armoury has continued in this city.

3. Velvet Leggings

Velvet has been a fixture throughout the shows in Milan but Versace is the brand that has dared to take it to the next level with '80s-inspired velvet leggings worn with tailored jackets that could well challenge the classic jeans-and-a-nice-top look as a Friday night outfit of choice for fashion girls.

4. Pouf Skirts

Skirts that bounce and skate as the models walk down the runway have proven to be a niche trend that has somehow arisen in almost every show during MFW. A coincidence? I think not.

Versace's have been the most dramatic of them all, with a range of options from classic puffball minis through to sculptural skater silhouettes.

The countdown is on. The 2026 Grammy Awards will be held on Sunday, February 1. Many of the industry's biggest stars are nominated this year, including Sabrina Carpenter, Bad Bunny, Justin Bieber, Kendrick Lamar, Miley Cyrus, Billie Eilish, Lady Gaga, Rosé, Cardi B, and more. In anticipation of the sure-to-be-amazing looks, I decided to take a walk down memory lane and revisit iconic outfits by one of the event's most dominant red carpet designers: Versace.

You probably don't need reminding, but Jennifer Lopez's cut-down-to-there Versace dress went hugely viral in 2000 before going viral was even a thing. What's the true public sign of celebrity friendship? Dressing up like each other, of course.

Camila Morrone just showed up to the 2024 Emmys red carpet in a dress reminiscent of the one her famous friend, Jennifer Lawrence, wore to the 2011 Academy Awards. Morrone, who is nominated for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Limited or Anthology Series or Movie for her role in Daisy Jones and the Six, wore a sleek, minimalist Versace gown for her first Emmy nomination.

With no necklace and an over-the-top '90s blowout, the 26-year-old actress is practically twinning with 2011 J.Law. The No Hard Feelings actress famously wore a red Calvin Klein dress to her first Academy Award nomination. Just take a look—the resemblance is uncanny. If there's one thing Hollywood starlets are going to do, it's wear red on their debut-nomination red carpet!

Morrone opted for a natural, glowy makeup look complete with tousled, voluminous hair—perhaps a nod to her on-screen character's '70s rocker-style hair.

The day before Sabrina Carpenter’s "Feather” music video breaks the internet, the 24-year-old enters our Zoom call flush with apologies. She’s forgotten to redownload the app after deleting it to save on data (IYKYK), making her a few minutes late. "My phone has been out of storage for like all of eternity,” she declares. After settling into a spot on the floor between her coffee table and sofa—which is currently decorated with an Ariana Grande pillow, a keepsake from her stint as the artist’s opening act on the Dangerous Woman Tour back in 2017—she props her phone up, and we dive into a 90-minute conversation.

During this time, she’s refreshingly open about everything from the proven difficulties that come with growing up in the spotlight and what happens when the internet turns on you to how it feels to experience all of the emotional roller coasters that come with teenhood years later than your friends because you were simply too busy at 15 to join them. Her lyrics often live in the grey zone, leaving her fans to search for breadcrumbs alluding to their meaning or who they’re about, but her ultimate conclusions to my questions are surprisingly black-and-white. "This was the trajectory of my path,” she says. "I can’t change it now.”

Letting past regrets or grudges eat away at her doesn’t exactly fit into Carpenter’s busy schedule, which hasn’t eased up in more than a decade. When I ask the singer-songwriter and actress if she’s had a day off in 14 years, she laughs, saying, "You know, it sounds dramatic if I say no, but definitely not like a super day off.” For Carpenter, keeping her sights firmly set on her next move is precisely what’s gotten her to where she is today. "My brain works in ways where I’m like, ‘Oh, I want to do this. … It’s gonna take a long time … so I [have] to start now,’” she explains. "Even in those moments of free time, I feel like I’m always just visualising something in the future.” It’s this mindset that’s produced five studio albums, two Billboard Hot 100 hits, and three Platinum singles. "It’s a blessing and a curse,” she says. "I would love to be on a boat somewhere, though.”

Even with the heavy workload, nothing can take away the fact that Carpenter is living out her lifelong dreams. "There was never really a question. Music was always the thing as a child that made me feel like I understood more about life,” she says. As for convincing everyone to take her seriously, she attributes that to her conviction. "Not to be the person that brings up their astrology, but I’m a Taurus, and I think that might have something to do with the fact that I’ve always just been very driven. Some people like to call it stubborn. I like to say driven,” she explains.

Unlike other kids who woke up one morning wanting to be a pop star and a doctor or fashion designer or astronaut the next, Carpenter’s interests never varied. "I wouldn’t start things and not finish them. That wasn’t really my MO,” she says. "I ate, slept, [and] breathed singing and would be at the piano all day, or I’d be practicing or doing my warm-ups. Even if I had nothing to do with singing in the coming weeks or months, I would try doing it every day just to practice and get better.” All these years later, I get the impression that Carpenter is still this way—never quite satisfied. "The only way I’ll make it through this is if I never actually fully feel established because I’ll always just keep working,” she adds.

Carpenter was 12 when she first signed with Hollywood Records, a label under Disney Music Group. In addition to granting her the ability to record her own songs and perform them, it meant she’d be sent into boardrooms with men many times her senior telling her about her future. "That was probably the weirder thing that I had to experience from a really young age,” she says. 

Then there was social media, which nobody, Carpenter included, could have predicted would be such a requirement of the job when she started in 2009. Today, she sees it from two sides. "It’s heartwarming if you think about it in the way that it provides togetherness,” she says. "It’s scary if you think about it in the way that you’re like, ‘Oh, people think they know me from videos on the internet.’” For Carpenter, there are ups, and there are "down, down, down, downs” when it comes to social media and the role it plays in her career and personal life. That’s when she reminds herself just how fortunate she is. "I literally get to sing into a microphone. That’s my job,” she says. "It’s everything that I’ve always wanted. I’m really lucky that my childhood thing… I stuck with it, and, you know, we’re hand in hand through this.”

Writing her own songs also contributes to her calm and collected nature and her ability to move past any road bumps that have and will continue to arise as she navigates her life as Sabrina Carpenter: pop star. "I really feel like I disconnect and fall off the face of the Earth [when I’m making music],” she says. It’s through this process that she found her voice and fearless disposition. (She does admit to being "a sarcastic little snippy ass” since, well, forever, which is presumably why she’s never really been walked all over.)

It’s through music that Carpenter is able to turn off from the online world, where everyone has an opinion and heaps of time to share it. "Sometimes, I bang my head against a wall repeatedly,” she says of hate comments online. But at the same time, she can’t harp on them. She adds, "If someone says, ‘Oh, she’s ugly,’ what am I going to do with that? Okay, well, bummer. I have to just move on with my day, regardless of whether you think I’m ugly or not.” Sitting at her piano, no matter what the situation on hand may be, escape and resolution are only a few keys away. "It is so satisfying when you can take a negative situation in your life and turn it into a positive memory with a song,” she says.

As she’s gotten older, her music has evolved—getting more vulnerable and emotion driven. In 2021, the "Nonsense” singer left her longtime label to join Island Records, an organization that she says trusted her vision as an artist first and foremost. "I didn’t sit down with them and go, ‘This is the album that I’m making. It’s called EmaiIs I Can’t Send. It’s very blunt and very forward,’” she explains. "They didn’t know just as much as I was still figuring it out. But they had a lot of faith in what I was creating and let me experiment and create something really special.” 

Because of this freedom, Carpenter was able to speak her truths on the album without all the outside noise. "When you’re worried about [music] appealing to people and making sure that everyone likes it, I don’t know if you make anything that feels authentic,” she says. Putting out the album left Carpenter exposed. "[It is] borderline too personal,” she admits. But not once since its release in 2022, and subsequent deluxe edition that came out earlier this year, has she felt an ounce of regret. Being on the Emails I Can’t Send Tour and hearing the voices of her longtime fans singing along only reassured Carpenter that she’d made the right decision. 

Now, she’s performing those same songs in front of an even larger fan base: Swifties.

In June, Taylor Swift announced the first round of international shows for her record-breaking Eras Tour, revealing Carpenter as her opening act for the Mexico, Argentina, and Brazil dates. Carpenter will also return for Swift’s seven Australia and six Singapore shows. "I’m not gonna say I peed my pants because that sounds really graphic and maybe not sanitary, but I think it really just caught me off guard,” she says of hearing the news. "It was very much a childhood dream come true.” For her tour debut in Mexico City, Carpenter opened her performance with her first-ever YouTube upload, a video of her nine-year-old self singing Swift’s "Picture to Burn,” exhibiting just how long she’s looked up to the 12-time Grammy winner. "I still probably have not processed it if I’m being completely honest with you,” she says. 

The duo first met backstage at a show when Carpenter was 17 years old. "She had her cats with her,” she recalls. (Carpenter herself has two white British shorthairs at home, so their shared love of felines bonded them for life.) "I have older sisters, so if anything, it felt like that type of a relationship.” According to Carpenter, Swift’s support of her music has been significant, but perhaps more impactful has been the "All Too Well” singer’s championing of Carpenter as a human being. "To work with someone [who] cares about you as a person as well as an artist … that’s been the biggest gift for sure,” she says. Carpenter recently released a pared-down version of Swift’s 2012 track "I Knew You Were Trouble” on Spotify, with many on TikTok sharing how the cover made them completely reinterpret the song, a pop hit with deep lyrics. Carpenter chose to cover the track because of how similar the perspective is to "Feather,” the song Carpenter rereleased alongside "I Knew You Were Trouble.” Like her cover, "Feather” got the chilled-out treatment, making them a perfect match. Swift’s reaction to the cover was direct and to the point: "She nailed it.”

Despite her experience performing on the road, touring with Swift is a whole new ball game for Carpenter. "When you’re doing your own shows, you have this assurance [that the audience] is there for you,” she says. "They know the songs, they came to see you, and I feel very lucky in that sense that I’m like, ‘Whoa, I have this crowd of people that dedicated their Friday night to come sing these songs with me.’” On the Eras Tour, however, there’s a little more pressure for Carpenter to work the room. "I go into it with a little bit more excitement, being playful and just really singing and interacting with the crowd as much as I possibly can,” she says. "There’s so many of them—I can’t see them all.”

Her costumes, likewise, contribute to her energy onstage. "I want to feel as confident as humanly possible so I can be up there and not worry about what I’m doing,” she says. "It helps me perform better.” She ended up donning custom Swarovski-crystal minidresses by the Ukrainian brand Frolov, a favorite of Beyoncé for her own shows. She paired the dresses with her signature white go-go boots. "The go-go boots have been there for me in hard times,” she says. 

Fashion played a pivotal role in Emails I Can’t Send, more so than it did in any of her previous albums. "[The record], to me at least, feels like the first album cycle where I really felt like there was a style connection to the music,” she explains. "I haven’t always felt that way in the past because I was young and didn’t know who I was.” By getting to know herself better and finally gaining firsthand experience of the themes she’d long been singing about, everything just clicked. "This theme of hearts [is] sprinkled throughout the music and different visuals,” she says. "It made so much sense to me because [the album] was so deeply surrounded by this infatuation with love and the lack of love and [how it helped to shape] me into the person that I am right now.” Scrolling through her Instagram feed, the symbol is ubiquitous in her looks. "There have been a lot of little heart cutouts,” she says. "I’ve pretty much done it everywhere.”

Her style outside of the album has also seen a shift as she’s learned more about who she is. "The things I feel really confident in now, maybe five years ago I probably would have never worn [them], but that’s the beautiful thing about evolving with fashion,” she says. Though she’s most known for her hyper-romantic aesthetic laced with soft pastel shades, micro hemlines, and ethereal fabrics, Carpenter’s found herself experimenting outside of that look. (Don’t worry—it’s not going away entirely anytime soon.) "I’m constantly exploring and figuring [things] out,” she says. One look at her recent ensembles from Paris Fashion Week—where she wore a runway look from Schiaparelli’s F/W 23 collection to the French couturier’s S/S 24 show and a completely sheer black slip dress to Givenchy—is proof enough of that. 

Her stylist Jason Bolden—whose client list also includes Yara Shahidi, Storm Reid, and Vanessa Hudgens—has contributed significantly to that exploration. The duo first teamed up when Carpenter was just 17 around the same time that her breakout Disney show Girl Meets World wrapped. "The first thing he put me in was a red Loewe dress,” she recalls. "That was so out of left field for me because I don’t think anyone else would have done that at that time in my life.” Just then, she knew he was perfect for the job. "We started with taking some of these more daring fashion risks that I probably would have never seen on the rack and been like, ‘That’s the one for me,’” she says. "He was really good at pushing me in those ways.” They’ve been together ever since through each of her different musical and style eras, collaborating seamlessly to communicate her ever-changing story via clothes. "It sounds so silly to say that so much of my life is the little outfits I wear, but it kind of is,” she says.

Carpenter’s style is but one of many aspects of her life that revolve around music. She launched a second perfume a few months ago—Sweet Tooth: Caramel Dream—which she describes simply as an emotional extension of her music. She’s preparing to head back out on tour with Swift this month, followed by multiple shows on the iHeartRadio Jingle Ball Tour. She is releasing a new holiday EP titled fruitcake on November 17. And yes, she has plans for a sixth album. "There’s definitely more coming,” she says with an air of mystery. Everything she does remains firmly planted in her singular childhood dream. "I sometimes look at that as such a phenomenal thing to think about,” she says. "Why, for some reason, you just have something, this idea in your head when you’re put on this Earth and how it happens, you have no idea, but you have this blind faith and just wake up every day and make it happen.” Perhaps that explains the black-and-white manner in which she deals with those areas of her life that fall outside of her control. When she’s needed it most, music has come through for her, stepping in and helping her overcome every obstacle life’s thrown her way. Why question its powers now?

The day before Sabrina Carpenter’s "Feather” music video breaks the internet, the 24-year-old enters our Zoom call flush with apologies. She’s forgotten to redownload the app after deleting it to save on data (IYKYK), making her a few minutes late. "My phone has been out of storage for like all of eternity,” she declares. After settling into a spot on the floor between her coffee table and sofa—which is currently decorated with an Ariana Grande pillow, a keepsake from her stint as the artist’s opening act on the Dangerous Woman Tour back in 2017—she props her phone up, and we dive into a 90-minute conversation.

During this time, she’s refreshingly open about everything from the proven difficulties that come with growing up in the spotlight and what happens when the internet turns on you to how it feels to experience all of the emotional roller coasters that come with teenhood years later than your friends because you were simply too busy at 15 to join them. Her lyrics often live in the gray zone, leaving her fans to search for breadcrumbs alluding to their meaning or who they’re about, but her ultimate conclusions to my questions are surprisingly black-and-white. "This was the trajectory of my path,” she says. "I can’t change it now.”

Letting past regrets or grudges eat away at her doesn’t exactly fit into Carpenter’s busy schedule, which hasn’t eased up in more than a decade. When I ask the singer-songwriter and actress if she’s had a day off in 14 years, she laughs, saying, "You know, it sounds dramatic if I say no, but definitely not like a super day off.” For Carpenter, keeping her sights firmly set on her next move is precisely what’s gotten her to where she is today. "My brain works in ways where I’m like, ‘Oh, I want to do this. … It’s gonna take a long time … so I [have] to start now,’” she explains. "Even in those moments of free time, I feel like I’m always just visualizing something in the future.” It’s this mindset that’s produced five studio albums, two Billboard Hot 100 hits, and three Platinum singles. "It’s a blessing and a curse,” she says. "I would love to be on a boat somewhere, though.”

Even with the heavy workload, nothing can take away the fact that Carpenter is living out her lifelong dreams. "There was never really a question. Music was always the thing as a child that made me feel like I understood more about life,” she says. As for convincing everyone to take her seriously, she attributes that to her conviction. "Not to be the person that brings up their astrology, but I’m a Taurus, and I think that might have something to do with the fact that I’ve always just been very driven. Some people like to call it stubborn. I like to say driven,” she explains.

Unlike other kids who woke up one morning wanting to be a pop star and a doctor or fashion designer or astronaut the next, Carpenter’s interests never varied. "I wouldn’t start things and not finish them. That wasn’t really my MO,” she says. "I ate, slept, [and] breathed singing and would be at the piano all day, or I’d be practicing or doing my warm-ups. Even if I had nothing to do with singing in the coming weeks or months, I would try doing it every day just to practice and get better.” All these years later, I get the impression that Carpenter is still this way—never quite satisfied. "The only way I’ll make it through this is if I never actually fully feel established because I’ll always just keep working,” she adds.

Carpenter was 12 when she first signed with Hollywood Records, a label under Disney Music Group. In addition to granting her the ability to record her own songs and perform them, it meant she’d be sent into boardrooms with men many times her senior telling her about her future. "That was probably the weirder thing that I had to experience from a really young age,” she says. 

Then there was social media, which nobody, Carpenter included, could have predicted would be such a requirement of the job when she started in 2009. Today, she sees it from two sides. "It’s heartwarming if you think about it in the way that it provides togetherness,” she says. "It’s scary if you think about it in the way that you’re like, ‘Oh, people think they know me from videos on the internet.’” For Carpenter, there are ups, and there are "down, down, down, downs” when it comes to social media and the role it plays in her career and personal life. That’s when she reminds herself just how fortunate she is. "I literally get to sing into a microphone. That’s my job,” she says. "It’s everything that I’ve always wanted. Versace has had a busy week. First, the brand showed its S/S 24 collection in Milan, featuring the likes of Claudia Schiffer, Natalia Bryant, Kendall Jenner, and Gigi Hadid on the runway. Every season, I find myself faced with the problem of not having enough room in my closet for both the clothes that already reside there and the ones I hope to welcome inside. "As much as I love summer sundresses, the fall 2023 runways have made me ecstatic about the prospect of slipping into something new this season. Celebrity Prediction: Zendaya

Among Valentino's absolutely star-studded lineup of A-list brand ambassadors, Zendaya is perhaps the most well-known face of the brand. The collaboration between the two, brought to life by stylist Law Roach, has given us countless iconic fashion moments, from a crop top on the 2022 Oscars red carpet to the dreamy train of pink satin rosettes at this year's SAG Awards. So when we first glimpsed the Valentino F/W 23 collection, it wasn't a matter of if Zendaya would wear any of the looks. Rather, it was which look she'd wear first. My prediction is look 68, a languid sequin gown that balances womenswear and menswear aesthetics with its sultry thigh-high slit and crisp black tie.

Celebrity Prediction: Kendall Jenner

Nobody does effortless off-duty dressing quite like Jenner, so when I saw this satisfyingly simple look at Bottega Veneta, my mind immediately started conjuring images of Jenner wearing it around L.A. The model seems to have an affinity for Matthieu Blazy's designs, having pulled two looks recently from the brand's spring/summer collection (see here and here).

Celebrity Prediction: Laura Harrier

Of all the A-list ambassadors for Saint Laurent, from Kravitz to Hailey Bieber, Laura Harrier just might be my favorite star for the French house. The marriage of her minimal style with the brand's low-key luxury just feels right, and this collection was no different. I think Harrier would gravitate toward my personal favorite, look 34, which is comprised of a leather aviator jacket and an easy silk skirt.

Designer Look: Dilara Findikoglu F/W 23 Look 4

Celebrity Prediction: Bella Hadid

When Bella Hadid wore a custom look from the rising Turkish designer to the Met Gala after-party last year, it immediately put Dilara Findikoglu's subversively sexy POV on my radar. Of everything the designer put forth this season, it's this deconstructed take on a traditional skirt suit that I think Hadid will gravitate to the most. The balance between the sophisticated silhouette and the way the raw edges seem to be coming undone strikes me as something the supermodel would be all over. If I had a crystal ball, I'd even say that she'd wear the look for the launch of Kin Euphorics' next flavor—something baby pink, to be sure.

Celebrity Prediction: Katie Holmes

Khaite and Katie Holmes go way back. Ever since the actor-director made internet history for her cardigan-bra moment from the brand back in 2019, the duo has forever been linked in my mind. Since then, Holmes has remained a steady customer of the brand's serenely tailored aesthetic, and I predict that next season will be no different. Of all the floor-length dresses and sharply tailored outerwear in this collection, it's this simple but fluid look that has Holmes's name written all over it. I could see her wearing the understated ensemble for a low-key red carpet or fall event.

Celebrity Prediction: Dua Lipa

Dua Lipa's glamorous and high-gloss style is an easy match for Ferragamo's new look under Creative Director Maximilian Davis. This silver draped minidress is exactly the kind of sultry, eye-catching thing that the pop star would be spotted in going to a late-night dinner in her native London.

Celebrity Prediction: Rosie Huntington-Whiteley

Between running Rose Inc and being a mom of two, Rosie Huntington-Whiteley is a busy woman. No wonder the functional luxury of The Row features prominently in her wardrobe via the popular outfit galleries she posts to Instagram. If you're familiar with her style, you know that Huntington-Whiteley doesn't stray far from her neutral color palette, but with this shade of red having such a moment right now, she'd be my top pick for who I'd want to see in this stunning red coat.

Celebrity Prediction: Emily Ratajkowski

To close out the brand's fall runway, Emila Ratajkowski walked the runway in a sequined blazer-dress and a pair of chunky ankle boots. Despite that, I actually think the star would pluck a different look from this collection for her own wardrobe. Simkhai's reimagined two-piece tuxedo is a peak EmRata outfit if I've seen one. It's sultry yet sharply tailored, and perhaps most noteworthy, it features a Ratajkowski style signature—the exposed midriff.

Celebrity Prediction: Suki Waterhouse

Suki Waterhouse is quickly proving to be just as much a force in the style world as she is in the entertainment one. Her recent press tour looks while promoting Daisy Jones and the Six have been filled with plenty of sequins, feathers, and sheer fabrics that are fit for the role of a '70s musician she plays in the TV series. Buzzy London label 16Arlington is a master in all three of those elements, especially with this look that Waterhouse would wear to a T.

Celebrity Prediction: Zoë Kravitz

Maybe it's because I haven't stopped thinking about Kravitz wearing a bra-exposing crystal dress to the 2022 Met Gala, but the microscopic bikini top in Gucci's recent runway immediately made me think of the actor and how well she'd pull off this daring look.

Designer Look: Loewe F/W 23 Look 37

Celebrity Prediction: Taylor Russell

As she's the new face of Loewe (and the only U.S. ambassador to the brand), it's not a matter of if Taylor Russell will wear a look from the recent fall collection—it's simply which one we'll see her in first. I'm placing bets that it will be this one, a cropped black shirt made from a doll-like stiff fabric. 

Designer Look: Coperni F/W 23 Look 12

Celebrity Prediction: Paloma Elsesser

Supermodel and face of many a Vogue cover, Paloma Elsesser is a longtime fan of Coperni, so I predict she'll be pre-ordering this LBD featuring metal hardware accents sculpted to look like hands pinching at various points on the body. It's a striking way to highlight the physical form of its wearer, and I just know Elsesser would just bring the dress to life off the runway.

Next, these new Zara jackets are giving major Princess Diana vibes. 

Unlike Cannes, Sundance Film Festival is fairly tame when it comes to dressing. Oftentimes, the weather (aka heavy amounts of snow) in Park City hinders attendees from prioritizing bold looks rather than utility, and understandably so. That being said, it appears that Anne Hathaway, whose film Eileen premiered at the festival on Saturday, didn't get the memo, and honestly, we couldn't be more thrilled about it. 

For the premiere, Hathaway and her stylist, Erin Walsh, plucked a puffer jacket with a bustier-like bodice off of Versace's F/W 22 runway and paired it with tights and sky-high platforms, essentially combining the practicality necessary for a winter weekend in Park City with high fashion. The look comes after a bevy of other celebrities were spotted also skipping pants in favor of outerwear or knitwear paired with sheer tights, including Kylie and Kendall Jenner, Sophie Turner, and more. After posing on the carpet in her puffer-and-tights ensemble, Hathaway eventually removed her outerwear to showcase a tweed minidress also by Versace. But without a doubt, the pre-dress-reveal look was what stole the show—or, better yet, the weekend.

There are two concepts capable of taking a red carpet look from good to great: vintage and customization. And for her latest appearance, Margot Robbie said, "Let's do both." For the Sydney premiere of her new film Babylon, Robbie worked with her longtime stylist Kate Young to not only bring an iconic dress out of the archives but to also make it her own with custom touches. The result? One of the year's most interesting red carpet moments yet. 

Specifically, Robbie's dress for the event was inspired by one from Versace's spring 1995 haute couture collection that featured a corset-like bodice in ice-blue fabric, a draped waist, and a slinky floor-length skirt with a slit going all the way up. The same one was famously worn by supermodel Carla Bruni, who styled the dress with matching satin pumps to attend an after party for the Italian house's show.

If there's one person whose feed I can rely on to inadvertently convince me I should go shopping, it's Eliza Huber. My fellow New York–based editor is, not surprisingly, very cool in the way some people are who never seem to be under- or overdressed—they're just perpetually stylish and very much themselves.

Last week on a not-too-chilly day, Eliza and I indulged one of the city's great pastimes: a December morning spent meandering SoHo's stores and cobblestone streets in the selfless pursuit of holiday shopping. Given that we're both notorious Versace fangirls (and given Eliza's penchant for snapping herself in dressing rooms), it's no surprise we ended up on Greene Street doing a try-on of the brand's latest 90s Vintage Logo frames. Read on for all the selfies, shopping picks, and a little dive into Eliza's thoughts on style and gifting this holiday season. It's a treat.

ON PERSONAL STYLE:

"I typically describe my style as timeless and elegant with some darker touches that err on the side of grunge. I like neutrals like black, gray, navy, and off-white, especially in the winter, and I prefer to play around with textures—though I've been known to add a pop of color every now and then to throw people off. (Why do you think I've been eyeing Versace's red-and-gold cat-eye sunglasses? No one would expect them from me, which is what makes them so alluring.)

"When it comes to splurging, I need to know that the piece will have a big impact on my current wardrobe in the sense that it'll throw off my normal dressing and get me to think of the things I already own in new ways. My wardrobe as a whole is important to me, more so than single objects, so when a fresh addition is introduced, it needs to work with the totality of my closet."

ON THE PERFECT PRESENT:

"When it comes to gifting, I usually like to collect things throughout the year when I find them. That way, I don't have to scramble right before the holidays to find personalized gifts that will make the receiver feel special and seen. That said, this only works if I'm able to spot great gifts early on.

"Luxe accessories are my go-to because a lot of people won't buy them for themselves no matter how much they want them. My favorite accessories to gift are designer sunglasses because they're something you can wear every single day no matter the season and they make a big impact on an outfit. I gave a pair to my mom last year, and every time I see her wearing them, it makes me happy. Really, it's a gift for you, too."

ON HOLIDAY STYLE:

"I feel like holiday dressing has calmed down a bit and parties more often than not call for an elevated casual look as opposed to the cocktail or formal dress codes we were used to pre-pandemic. This is perfect for me because I'm heavily biased toward wearing jeans, a bodysuit, and an oversize blazer for every occasion, and simply adding statement accessories—think shoes and sunglasses—will turn the outfit up a notch.

"For blazers, the big difference I'm making this season is I'm steering more toward patterned, textured blazers than simple black ones, which have been my go-to in past years. I'm obsessed with Versace's houndstooth style from the F/W 22 runway collection. The big shoulders are just an added bonus."

ON SELF-GIFTING:

"I don't especially like to refer to investing in my wardrobe as 'a gift for myself' because that implies that I need to do something to deserve it when in reality, I see my clothes, shoes, and accessories as vehicles for expressing myself. If I see something that I love and can afford it or have the ability to save up for it, I'll get it and wear it again and again. There's no need to come up with an excuse if it's something that will make me feel good in the long run—emphasis on the 'long run' part. If an item is only going to make you happy for a few weeks, it's not worth spending a large amount of money on, in my experience.

"My biggest thing is trusting my gut when it comes to big purchases. For example, I spotted Versace's black cat-eye sunglasses in the brand's SoHo store and felt immediately drawn to them. I knew that if I walked out without them and they sold out, I'd regret it. There are lots of things I leave behind and never think about again, so when I think a splurge item will haunt me if I don't buy it, I usually go for it."

ON THIS WINTER'S TRENDS:

"One of my favorite trends right now is saffron, an extremely rich and luxurious shade of red that was all over the fall runways at Versace and some of my other favorite brands. Since I'm not a huge color person with my personal wardrobe, I'm looking to wear this trend in a minor way, preferably with accessories like shoes, bags, and eyewear. It's so eye-catching and can make even a simple look feel so expensive.

"I've also been loving the corporate trend we discussed heavily in February after Fashion Month. I like all the '80s and '90s takes on workwear, with pencil skirts, pinstripes, houndstooth, broad-shouldered blazers, and ties all happening in a big way. It feels like such a far cry from the comfort-facing clothes we've been donning to work from home, which is incredibly fresh and interesting to me."

ON HER FAVORITE EYEWEAR:

"I love a statement pair of glasses but still manage to buy the pair that feels most wearable and classic to me. This cat-eye style is just that, and black is perfect to wear on repeat. They still have edge to them with the large, gold logo on the arm, but the shape of the actual glasses is timeless."

At last, the wait is over. Roughly 24 hours after the news broke that Kourtney Kardashian and Travis Barker—who got engaged on the beach in Montecito, California, back in October—were married in a Las Vegas wedding chapel on Grammys night, we finally got our hands on photos from the ceremony. 

On Wednesday, the eldest Kardashian sister posted a slideshow of images from the couple's makeshift wedding, showcasing the newlyweds kissing in front of an Elvis impersonator turned officiant. And while their Vegas ceremony wasn't technically legit (according to her post, they didn't get an actual license), it was dreamy nonetheless. Plus, it gave us an idea of what the duo is thinking for their actual wedding, which, by the looks of it, will include leather.

To check off wedding number one, both Kardashian and Barker wore oversize leather motorcycle jackets aka the biggest trend of 2022 so far. In the marathon that is fashion month, Milan is often considered to be something of a water break—a time to rest-up before the grand finale in Paris. But that wasn't the case this season. Rather, in my eyes at least, Milan could very well have been the finish line, full of celebrity sightings, designer debuts, and enough buzz-worthy runway trends to keep us talking about the city's shows long after the F/W 22 season ends. 

Unlike the last few seasons, which have been predominantly ruled by Y2K-inspired musings and oversize suiting, the F/W 22 selection that was displayed in Milan last week felt entirely fresh and unexpected. Many of the vibrant, saturated garments we saw reign supreme at the spring shows were this time replaced with dark, grungier alternatives, most notably at Philosophy di Lorenzo Serafini, Blumarine, and Trussardi. Meanwhile, seemingly forgotten trends like animal print, bomber jackets, and over-the-knee boots all returned to the spotlight, as seen at Roberto Cavalli, Prada, and Bottega Veneta (now with Matthieu Blazy at the helm), respectively. And those are just the highlights.

Ahead are seven trends from Milan Fashion Week that demand your immediate attention. 

After a number of high-profile sightings on the likes of Kim Kardashian, Hailey Bieber, and Rihanna, I had a feeling that bomber jackets, which ruled the fashion scene in the late 2010s, would make an appearance on the runways this season. I didn't, however, expect them to be as present as they were. Spotted at Prada, Tod's, Versace, Ports 1961, and others, the pilot-style silhouette is about to be everywhere.

Never ever did I think I'd be writing that something as simple and basic as a tank top could be one of the most prominent takeaways from Milan Fashion Week. And yet the small-but-mighty staple made an appearance at some of the week's biggest shows, including Bottega Veneta and Prada.

From subtle snakeskin boots at Missoni to head-to-toe leopard print at Roberto Cavalli, the F/W 22 runways proved that animal prints aren't tired these days, but rather, a fresh addition to any fall wardrobe this year. I'm dedicating this season's incognito trend to everyone who's thrown on a big coat, balaclava, and oversize sunnies on a Sunday morning for a much-needed coffee and pastry. Displayed via identity-shielding hoods and gloves, spy-inspired turtlenecks, and all-black ensembles, this trend will have everyone in sight asking, "Who is that?" and "Where can we get their outfit?"

It's been a few seasons since over-the-knee boots have made a major appearance on the runways, and for a while, that was okay with the fashion scene. Clogs, platforms, and knee-high boots were all anyone wanted to wear, with no room for the extra-tall boots in our collections. But after seeing the silhouette at countless shows in Milan—including at Bottega Veneta, Moschino, Etro, and MM6 Maison Margiela—it's clearly time to rethink our decision to put over-the-knee boots on hiatus.

In contrast to some of the more delicate trends showcased in Milan, a rougher, more edgy style proved to be equally enthralling. Present at Philosophy di Lorenzo Serafini, Diesel, Versace, and Blumarine, the tough-exterior trend—which has already been worn by celebrities like Olivia Rodrigo, Megan Fox, and Kourtney Kardashian—is defined by leather, black lipstick, and hosiery.

Sheer fashion wasn't exactly the newest fad to hit the runways in Milan, though, this season's selection did take an even more head-on approach to the translucent trend than anything displayed in the past. Starting at Fendi, Bella Hadid opened the show in a '50s-esque, see-through slip dress, paired with a furry shawl, knit gloves, and a pair of delicate pumps. Underneath, her mint-colored lingerie intentionally peeked through. Later in the week, Miuccia Prada and Raf Simons sent models down the runway in gauzy dresses and skirts, paired with tank tops and bombers, while GCDS and Del Core didn't hold back at all, styling their sheer dresses with hardly anything underneath. No, this trend isn't for the faint of heart, but it's certainly a move worth testing out this fall.

The holidays, though wonderful, are a busy time of year both in my personal life and my professional life. Between working longer hours, shopping for gifts, and driving everywhere to see family, this time of year can get a little overwhelming. Shop More Versace Sunglasses We Love

Two weeks out from Spring 2022 Paris Fashion Week and one thought still remains at the forefront of my mind: Where have all the clothes gone? And no, that's not a dig at this season's collections, which I've concluded were some of the finest the industry has seen in a long time. (Fendi and Versace's team-up and Balmain's supermodel army were proof of that.) Rather, it's a take on the overall sartorial shrinkage that's been creeping into fashion for a few seasons now, culminating in a spring lineup so small that there was barely any clothing at all. 

Following a summer full of Dua Lipa wearing tiny, crochet bikinis and low-rise jeans making a comeback on TikTok, it's evident that designers spent the warmer months taking note, with many introducing similarly shrunken styles into their spring collections. Starting at Copenhagen Fashion Week, Ganni and Baum und Pferdgarten styled panties as pants and debuted ab-baring tops that left little to the imagination. From there, the micro-clothing trend continued at New York Fashion Week, with Maryam Nassir Zadeh styling string bikinis with low-rise pants, Saint Sintra giving new meaning to the word miniskirt, and Theophilio reviving the tunic-as-a-dress look. But wait, it gets better (and much much smaller). 

By Paris—the final push in the marathon that is Fashion Month—any argument that oversize, swaddled clothing still reigned supreme had been debunked, in part due to Versace, Blumarine, Coperni, and Miu Miu's collections featuring smaller pieces than the next.

Now, with plenty of inspiration to pull from, all that's left to do is ask yourself whether or not you're ready for the Great Shrinkage. If so, shop the small-in-size, mighty-in-style pieces ahead. If not, let the six teeny-tiny trends below convince you otherwise.

Tunic Dresses

Wearing a tunic as a dress is one trend that strikes a chord for me, who, between the ages of 15 and 19, had no gauge for what the proper length of a dress was. Apparently, though, I wasn't so wrong for donning "dresses" with such improper hemlines. At least I wouldn't be in 2021 when minidresses—like those debuted at Fendi and Versace's crossover runway show—are shorter than most standard-issue tops. 

So Low

After decades spent shunning them, low-rise pants are officially back, and yes, they're runway-approved. But for once, their return doesn't sound like the worst thing in the world. In fact, after sightings at Coperni, Miu Miu, Christopher Esber, and more fashion favorites, ultra-low rises are growing on me (never thought I'd say that).

Daisy Dukes

Jessica Simpson called, and she wants her Daisy Dukes back. Just kidding. According to Blumarine creative director Nicola Brognano, there are plenty of seriously short shorts to go around. Paired with Y2K-era butterfly and rhinestone belt buckles and slim-fitting knee-high boots, the Italian fashion brand made a case for cutoffs that are NSFW. 

Micro Minis

All hail the micro miniskirt! After roughly two decades without the teeny tiny silhouette once beloved by Paris Hilton, Beyoncé, and more style stars of the early aughts, miniskirts made a triumphant return on the spring 2022 runways, showing up at Miu Miu, Prada, Blumarine, and Christopher Esber. Forewarning: Briefs not included, but highly recommended.

Even Tinier Lingerie

Even lingerie—something that's already tiny in nature—is going under the microscope right now. No more high-rise panties and longline bralettes. Today, it's all about G-strings and other flossy undergarments. And yes, they should be visible—whale-tail style. 

Slight Sweaters

Remember when sweaters were chunky and oversize? Same. Now forget it. As of spring 2022, expect a majority of your knitwear to be miniaturized, as displayed at Brandon Maxwell, Altuzarra, Blumarine, and Maryam Nassir Zadeh. Sure, a tiny cardigan won't keep you warm on a chilly night, but you'll certainly look cute.

Not Tops

This isn't just a crop top—this is the most cropped top I've ever seen. So much so that I would argue that it's not a top at all. Rather, it's a not top—one of this season's most prevalent barely there trends, showing up at Versace, Miu Miu, Bevza, Chanel, and more Fashion Month shows. 

Oh, to be tall! Your outfit options must be endless, right? Well, I'm sure that the super-tall people would disagree with me, and I know there are fashion struggles on that end of the height spectrum too (don't even ask a 6-foot person about jumpsuits), but when you're petite, the available trends you can easily throw on and not be swamped by are limited. There are some petite-friendly autumn 2022 trends, and I'm here to share them with you, short person to short person. I stand at 5'1'' and have a more curvaceous, hourglass figure than a straight-up-and-down or pear-shaped body. I am normally between a size 10 and 12, depending on the brand, the day and how I feel. So not only is it tricky enough finding trends that work for an ultra-petite frame, but it's even harder finding the looks that don't instantly fight against my boobs or cling to my thighs and gape around my waist at the same time.

I spend a lot of time at my local tailor's (or begging my mum for sewing assistance—she understands being even smaller than me!), but this season, I'd like to circumnavigate some of those trips and the additional cost and just get straight down to the good stuff. So I looked again at the runways, this time with a filter of "will I be able to easily throw this on without worrying it doesn't suit me?" and "is this going to have to be altered?" which led me to the following five petite-friendly autumn trends that I believe you can invest in not only for this season but beyond. There are looks here that adhere to classic short-person dressing principles, such as finding ways to elongate your look—think of knee boots under midi dresses rather than ankle boots that can "cut" up your leg line. From tube dresses to belted coats, these are the fresh ideas you can rely upon.

1. TONAL SUITING

There are probably rules around wearing one color head-to-toe in order to appear taller, but I believe the same can be done with a carefully selected range of tones from the same family, like in this chic Jil Sander look. I'd opt in for a skirt suit rather than a trouser suit, as they're trending. Plus, I would undoubtedly have to take the trousers up.

2. TUBE DRESSING

Formfitting dresses are anyone's friend, but they are particularly good for those of us who don't want to be swamped in clothing. You can currently find great tube dresses, skirts and body-con tops that all do the job nicely. This Loewe style has been particularly popular.

3. MAXI HEMLINES

Most midi skirts and dresses that I put on are far longer than they're supposed to be, so this season—as maxi hemlines are back in fashion—I'm going to make the most of this mishap! I'd suggest slimmer-line silhouettes like this Altuzarra skirt, as the fuller-skirted maxi options are a lot of fabric and quite hard to style as a shorter person.

4. BIG BELTED COATS

You can still wear oversized pieces when you're short; it's all about balance! If you want a dramatically big coat, then you can either look for something that hits the knee and belts in at the waist or try a shorter style to be worn with slimmer bottoms. I'll go for the former, as I hate being cold!
