Velvet tops are shockingly easy to style, as they go with everything. I have this Resort 20 Khaite top in both black and red velvet and have worn them in so many different ways—with straight-leg jeans (as shown below), trousers, skirts, and more. I even style it with a silk slip dress underneath to create a skirt effect without having to buy a separate slip skirt. The best part about velvet tops is how they instantly increase the value of any outfit. Simply put, they look expensive.

Of course, I saved the best for last. Although I'm aware that velvet outerwear is the priciest category of the three I styled out, it's also the one I think is most worth the investment. Trust me. I've invested a lot of money in velvet jackets, and I've never once regretted doing so. Personally, I think Blazé Milano and Liberowe are the dominant brands in this category, crafting unique shapes and designs with the fabric that don't feel like just more blazers. Instead, they're designing compliment-worthy pieces that can exist in your wardrobe and elevate your everyday outfits for decades to come.

It's me again, here to update you on coolest jeans I’ve spotted this month. I’ve sort of outgrown my current denim dossier and was on the hunt for a few new pairs, but before I started looking, I gave myself some strict criteria: no rips, no baggy silhouettes, and nothing light-wash. J Brand has mastered the art of the perfect jeans, so of course, it was the first brand I turned to while searching for a new pair. Unsurprisingly, I was not disappointed and found eight pairs I now can’t stop thinking about. Let’s hope I hit the jackpot so I can purchase every single piece from its new collection, but for now, here are my favorites.

Contrary to popular belief (aka every Hallmark movie ever), great holiday style doesn't actually require you wear a sequined dress or a red sweater. I personally prefer to add subtle festive elements to an already great winter outfit for holiday occasions. This way, my everyday favorites like knit turtlenecks and raw-hem jeans (yes, jeans!) can still feel party-appropriate. The always stylish NYC-based Janelle Lloyd agrees and is already dipping her toes into low-key holiday dressing. These three looks of hers from Garnet Hill are just the right amount of elevated and festive—and I'm guessing you'll want to try every single one.

Lloyd's first look is proving my case for making denim work for a casual holiday party. Her jeans tap into that cool winter-white vibe of the season and feel particularly festive with the addition of a velvet blazer, silky tank, and metallic accessories. About her styling inspiration, she tells me, "Velvet blazers are a holiday wardrobe must-have, and statement earrings with a bit of bling make an everyday outfit instantly more festive."

So how exactly does Lloyd choose her outfits? "I start by considering the location and vibe," she says. "For example, I wouldn't wear a short dress to a house party where I might end up lounging on a floor cushion. But in NYC, there's really no such thing as underdressed or overdressed. Anything goes." Her cozy all-gray look here is perfect for a post-work holiday happy hour with co-workers. "Cinch the cashmere wrap with a belt for an unexpected way to rock it," Lloyd notes.

Lloyd's last look got me particularly excited for holiday dressing as it taps into so many of my favorite winter trends: white leather boots, pleated midi skirts, and double-sweaters. "Skirts paired with sweaters are perfect for cooler weather when dresses are a bit more difficult to wear," she says. The cozy tan pullover she has on here would also make a great gift according to Lloyd. "My tip is to gift something useful that someone will use often. I find those are always the most appreciated gifts!" she says. I can think of at least three women who would love to unwrap this soft knit come December.

Without even looking at the calendar, I can always tell when the holiday season is fast approaching. Mariah Carey's vocals echo throughout every public space. Decorations start to line the lobbys of every building you walk into. And every kind of velvet fashion item is suddenly flooding new arrivals sections everywhere. 1. Know Your Velvet

The first point to note is that velvet can be made out of a variety of fabrics. Before proceeding with any laundering method, check the label to determine the material content of your garment. Silk velvet dominates the luxurious end of the spectrum and should always be outsourced to a professional cleaner. Velveteen, which is derived from cotton, and polyester or rayon blends are typically washed by hand. These fabrics may be machine safe, but check the care label before proceeding.
