There are book launch parties, and then there are Valentino book launch parties. If you assumed the latter would be significantly chicer, you'd be correct. Last night in Los Angeles, the esteemed Italian house drew an exceptionally well-dressed crowd to celebrate the release of a special tome called Specula Mundi. Filled with hundreds of images taken by Mark Borthwick, the photography book celebrates Alessandro Michele's spring/summer 2026 couture collection of the same name.

"Created as a limited-edition collector’s piece, the book captures Michele’s couture vision through a series of intimate, poetic images, offering a new way to experience the show," Valentino explained in a press release. Beginning on May 11, the book will only be available in select Valentino boutiques worldwide. Just 1500 will be printed, so getting your hands on a copy of the book might require some dedication. These stylish celebrity outfit pics from the party, however, will only command a few minutes of your time.

I was recently at a dinner party where someone was wearing the cutest little poncho, and I immediately wanted to know where it was from. It turned out to be a British label called Cecilie Telle. It felt like perfect timing because, just days earlier, I had been telling a friend that ponchos and capes were making a comeback, and she almost didn't believe me.

Over the years, working at Fendi, Gucci, and now Valentino, Michele has built a strong rapport with celebrities. This is because they were also seen in his spring 2025 haute couture and ready-to-wear collection for Valentino (think the Bowow pumps). More bows emerged on open-toe pumps, along with larger bows on the collars of minidresses—both blazer and tiered ruffled styles. Like fireflies, small yet impactful, bows may look delicate and soft, but they are precise, luminous, and powerful.

Bedazzled

In the latter half of the collection, Michele increased the intensity, shifting from romantic tailoring and soft bows to bold, embellished ensembles, featuring sequins, beads, and crystals. For menswear, there was a sheer polo shirt with crystal fringes hanging from the collar, a gold sequin blazer paired with black trousers, and even a metallic long-sleeve sequin zip-up layered under an orange blazer. Both menswear and womenswear featured straight-leg, tailored pants in neutral gray and black, as well as bold cobalt blue and fuchsia. I love luxury beauty items. I mean, who doesn't? They have innovative formulas, luxe textures, and chic packaging that feels weighty in your hand. The only thing I don't love is the price. As someone who does her best to stick to a budget (sometimes successfully and sometimes not so successfully), I know that designer makeup, skincare, and hair products aren't something I can stock up on very often. I have to wait for the odd sale to strike.

When the likes of Parker Posey, Barry Keoghan, Chappell Roan, Alexa Chung, and Nara Smith arrived at today's Valentino show during Paris Fashion Week, I doubt they were expecting to walk into what the French fashion house's creative director, Alessandro Michele, referred to in a press release as a "public toilet." Don't get me wrong; it was undoubtedly the chicest public toilet I've ever seen, but still. What they did expect, I'm sure, was a collection full of opulent, maximalist-leaning ensembles like those Michele's been known for since his days at Gucci, where he held the role of creative director for seven years. For that, they got exactly what they came for.

Michele's F/W 25 Valentino collection, titled Le Méta-Théatre Des Intimités, consisted of 80 looks worn by models strolling in and out of individual stalls inside a Lynchian set made to look like a cherry-red bathroom full of mirrors, flickering lights, and haze-inducing Lana Del Rey vocals. According to show notes, the offering was inspired by intimacy and the vast number of ways society has affected our ability to be authentically intimate. From this, Michele questioned "the dualism between inside and outside, between what is intimate and what is exposed, between the personal and the collective, between what remains private and what is meant to be shared, between depth and surface." These internal dialogues led to sheer lace and mesh lingerie being mixed in with conservative skirt- and pantsuits—full transparency and a state of being almost entirely concealed.

No matter which side of the intimacy coin each look landed on, loud luxury showed its hand, with furry details, colorful lace hosiery, blue-tinted eyewear, and even a Vans collab also making an appearance on the runway this season. For more, keep scrolling.

Maximalism's the Word

Where Michele goes, maximalism follows, and his second ready-to-wear collection for Valentino was hardly an exception. In one look, a model donning a striped and velvet bow–clad skirt set layered a jacket made of gold sequins and fur trimmings on top. She also wore a lace cap and matching tights, a long beaded necklace, blue knit socks, and fur booties. Another model was styled in a gold cropped jacket with one black-and-white polka-dot sleeve paired with a pink lace bodysuit and off-white polka-dot peplum skirt. Even the simpler ensembles featured loud moments, from blue-tinted eyewear to studded shoulder bags.

Vans and Valentino

Allegedly, the checkerboard and otherwise patterned lace-up sneakers that at least seven of the models at today's Valentino show were wearing are part of a forthcoming collaboration with California skate brand Vans, with Valentino putting its own spin on Vans' beloved Authentic silhouette. Though puddle pants covered up most of the designs throughout the show, checkerboard styles in both hot pink and black and red and black definitely made the cut, as did one white, blue, and, red pair printed with "I love my Vans and Valentino" using the heart emoji and both brands' logos on all sides.

The Powder Room Chronicles

Michele's deep dive into intimacy led him to commission a "dystopian, disturbing, Lynchian space: a temporarily autonomous space, free from the codification of norms," he wrote in the show notes about the F/W 25 show's powder room set design. "A space of appearance (H. Arendt) where intimacy reclaims its role of identity construction, through dressing and undressing." Viewers sat facing a long row of red toilet stalls broken up by two porcelain sinks accompanied by overhead lights and mirrors. Models walked in and out of the stalls, pausing at different times to stand in front of the sinks and examine themselves. The low-lit space and all-red surroundings are easy to trace back to David Lynch's catalog of work, which was also referenced at Khaite and Coach this season following the great TV and filmmaker's passing in January.

"What Is Intimate and What Is Exposed?"

One question from Valentino's F/W 25 show notes felt especially tied to the looks that debuted on the runway: "What is intimate and what is exposed?" The spring/summer 2025 collections brought many ideas into focus, but perhaps the biggest takeaways from fashion month were a renewed sense of softness, new maximalism, and a return to personal style. This is a notable shift away from fashion centered on minimalism, quiet luxury, and practical wearability, which has dominated for the past several seasons. Instead, there is a sense of joy returning to fashion and restored energy around the art of getting dressed.

We've already seen personality pieces enter into wardrobes in the form of unexpected items such as pillbox hats, but that has only been dialed up as designers call attention to highly personal looks. Brands such as Prada and Valentino made the case for this, bringing individuality back to fashion on the runway through inventive styling. Chanel returned to the Grand Palais after a four-year renovation, ushering the lightness of the space into the collection—a sensibility that permeated throughout fashion month overall. We even saw this movement toward softer palettes and more romantic silhouettes from brands, such as Khaite, that have come to be known for darker, edgier collections. Bottega Veneta, too, felt whimsical, using childlike playfulness as a point of inspiration. Saint Laurent was able to tap into several of the season's bigger themes, including soft power and opulence, which were prominent throughout the collections. The key accessory of 2025 arrived in the form of modern peep-toe shoes at Tory Burch and ACNE Studios. There is a lot to unpack from the runway collections in New York, London, Milan, and Paris, and ahead are the big takeaways.

What's come to be known as corporatecore has had a hand in fashion for years now. Following lockdown, people became surprisingly excited about the concept of putting on a suit or any office-appropriate ensemble instead of sweatpants for their 9-to-5s. For spring 2025, designers began to soften the once sharp tailoring that fell under this aesthetic, moving beyond traditional suiting in some cases and crafting a wardrobe for the modern working person who wants to look work-ready but still chic and comfortable. They still project power and influence with their ensembles, but now, it's in a far less obvious and intimidating fashion. At Ferragamo, Gabriela Hearst, and Stella McCartney, this energy manifested itself by way of subtly slouchy trench coats paired with pumps and structured handbags. The Row, Bottega Veneta, Christopher Esber, and, most notably, Saint Laurent, displayed the "soft power" look in the form of oversize suiting styled alongside cool accessories—from statement eyewear to cuff bracelets.

The fall/winter 2024 runways saw red—the color that had dominated the fashion circuit for over a year—ascend from just another trend to timeless status before our eyes. More shades of the color appeared, particularly burgundy, but instead of feeling like a short-lived fad, every variation of red on the runways appeared to be just as wearable as the many black, cream, and gray ensembles we saw in spades. All of that is to say that red's promotion made room for a new color trend to reach ubiquity the following season, and powder pink was quick to fill that spot. Throughout the spring/summer 2025 shows, powder pink garnered attention from the powers that be in fashion with a heavy showing in New York at Alaïa, Khaite, and Brandon Maxwell and in Milan and Paris at Miu Miu, Chanel, Valentino, and Jil Sander. Though not exactly groundbreaking for spring, the soft shade did feel fresh and airy compared to some of the darker colors we've come to expect from these brands, Khaite in particular.

With the rise of micro-trends on the internet and social media platforms, there has been a sameness in fashion, but have we lost touch with our personal style? That seemed to be the question designers were contemplating on the runways. This became clear at Prada, where Miuccia Prada and Raf Simons discussed the era of internet algorithms and emphasized a return to individuality on the runways. Rather than a concrete theme like we have come to expect at Prada, the sensibilities changed from look to look, and each model seemed to have a different sense of style. This continued throughout the season with looks that emphasized individuality and personal style. This often came down to styling.

At Chloé, an all-black look felt personal with the addition of a pillbox hat, oversize sunglasses, and layers of gold jewelry. Similarly, head-to-toe black stood apart at Gucci with a skirt that was finished with a wide-brimmed hat and leather gloves. In other collections such as Miu Miu and Marni, this was achieved by mixing unexpected prints. What really solidified the trend, however, was Alessandro Michele's debut runway collection for Valentino, which was one of the most anticipated shows at Paris Fashion Week. While the pieces in the collection were a tribute to the Valentino archives and house codes, the styling suggested personal ways to wear them that brought a sense of individuality to the forefront of the fashion conversation.

On several occasions throughout the spring/summer 2025 season, we witnessed looks sent down the runway that undoubtedly drew from Carolyn Bessette-Kennedy's sophisticated and modern sense of style. These ensembles displayed the air of simplicity and elegance that so many late '90s socialites and publicists did with Prada, Yohji Yamamoto, and Calvin Klein. Just like hers, they featured slight touches—be it a subtle, cool styling trick, or an unexpected tailoring or accessory choice. Come spring, these details will make people turn and wonder who the person wearing them is and how they, too, can get their look. Dubbed by us "the modern socialite," this savvy dresser has the very best taste, gets invited to everything, and always shows up in something worth saving to a mood board.

For spring 2025, those looks will include Max Mara's classic black-and-white shirt and pencil skirt with its peekaboo black bikini underneath; Tove's high-neck, sheer maxi dress with its wide, waist-accentuating belt; and Toteme's butter-yellow satin minidress fit with an attached scarf. For added measure, wear black tights and a bright-red lip.

"Opulence" is one of the words that hit the lips of showgoers throughout the season as designers continued to debut extravagant looks on the runways. In recent years, quiet luxury and minimalism have set the tone for style largely rooted in simplicity and pared-back pieces. For spring 2025, however, we've seeing the opposite play out with a return to the unbridled maximalism that has been absent from fashion for many seasons. At Saint Laurent, we saw this in the form of brocade jackets, ruffled satin skirts, high-neck lace tops, and gemstone-encrusted pumps. At Loewe, dramatic, sculptural jackets were executed in gleaming mother-of-pearl. At Dries Van Noten, tapestry-print satin jackets were paired with heavily embellished pencil skirts. This new sense of opulence takes on a "more is more" approach to style that is ornate, lavish, and undeniably grand.

The moment the Tory Burch show concluded at the Domino Sugar Factory in Brooklyn, editors began discussing the peep-toe heels from the runway. The shoes were designed with a towering and curved heel, glossy finish, and cutout peep toe positioned near the inner corners—an instant must-have item on our 2025 shopping lists. It was also one of the first glimpses at the peep-toe trend that swept the collections. At Khaite, minimal pumps with a micro cutout hit the runway. At ACNE Studios, slingbacks were finished with a spherical peep toe and an elongated, squared-off silhouette. At Prada, the designers resurrected styles from the archives, including a fall/winter 2008 version that was notably released during one of the last times peep-toe shoes were widely popular. Now, its comeback is sweeping and imminent. Instead of more traditional styles, the peep-toe heels of 2025 are returning with modern takes that reimagine the classic cutout shoes.

The fashion world, like us, is craving romance and expressing itself via soft, sheer, and flowing chiffon fabrics in ethereal shades and delicate floral patterns that immediately evoke images of a Keira Knightley period piece filmed in a grassy countryside at the peak of summer. At Chanel, airiness and flight were the cornerstones of its S/S 25 collection, with capes and feathers both finding places on models wearing transparent materials in a brightly lit Grand Palais. Chemena Kamali's sophomore collection for Chloé was the perfect continuation of her first, including bubble hems, lingerie-like lace, and florals, all through a bohemian lens. At Khaite, Creative Director Catherine Holstein utilized see-through fabrics and pale shades to cue a shift in her design strategy catalyzed by motherhood, according to an interview from Vogue.

You've heard of the wrong-shoe theory, a styling trick coined by stylist Allison Bornstein that involves pairing an outfit with shoes that would normally feel mismatched or incorrect to create a more interesting, adventurous ensemble. But have you heard of the wrong-jacket theory? Probably not, which makes sense given that we just made it up. The spring/summer 2025 runways made it abundantly clear that personal style and individualism will reign supreme when warmer weather arrives later on next year, and one of the many ways that was showcased was in the form of stylists topping looks with seemingly incompatible jacket options, specifically sporty and technical silhouettes. See sequin dresses at Prada, Brandon Maxwell, Rabanne, and Burberry combined with clashing outerwear, from nylon zip-ups to fur-trimmed parkas. In other words, expect the unexpected, and don't be afraid to play around with your top layers when spring arrives.

Textiles are taking on more tactile forms, which are showing up in a number of iterations in the spring/summer 2025 collections. Whether soft-to-the-touch feathers or twisting fringe that showcases a new sense of engineering in fabrics, the pieces automatically inspire a want of touch. Alaïa introduced voluminous, spiraled fringe coats, and Proenza Schouler executed fringe in the form of miniskirts and strapless dresses. Chanel added a playful, light touch to romantic feathers, while Loewe took on feathers in a modern way that fused them into a textile nearly resembling a woven fabric. Khaite layered pom-pom skirts under tailored outerwear. Bottega Veneta showcased hats that resembled rubber Koosh balls from childhood. Each look took on textiles in a touchable, feel-good way, emphasizing a renewed exploration of outside-the-ordinary textures.

The only thing better than a new season of Emily in Paris to devour in one sitting is the real-life Emily Cooper, aka Lily Collins, tearing it up sartorially while doing press for the show. Ever since season one of the Netflix hit series, Collins has taken her press looks very seriously—as seriously as Emily does on screen, with all the same luxury designer pieces but a slightly more pared-back aesthetic.

Naturally, though, season four's press tour looks are the chicest and most impressive yet. She paired the look with black tights, red Ferragamo wedges, and a black beret (of course).

For the occasion, she appropriately chose a Danish brand, Mark Kenly Domino Tan, or MKDT Studio, wearing a gray sleeveless dress from the pre-fall 2024 collection. With it, she chose Alaïa's viral net flats and Cartier jewelry, including the French jewelry house's Trinity stud earrings, a diamond Panthère de Cartier ring, and a gold band from the Love line.

This exaggerated Celine pussy bow feels like the perfect addition to Collins's Emily in Paris press tour, especially since the actress recently hinted in an interview with InStyle that we'd be getting more fall, winter, and holiday looks on her character in season four compared to past seasons that took place during warmer months. With it, she wore a black, long-sleeve minidress and Panthère de Cartier earrings.

That's where I come in. Even if you weren't watching every livestreamed show as they took place like I was, you'd want to know the trends that debuted there and steal them. 

From rugged work coats at Louis Vuitton and Prada (you might remember their lauded appearance in the spring/summer 2024 womenswear collection) to fashion-friendly, undeniably chic groutfits seen at Valentino and Sabato De Sarno's first menswear show for Gucci, the eight trends ahead include a little bit of everything cool right now in fashion. Scroll down to meet them all.

Ever since Prada debuted its S/S 24 collection that featured a delicate mixture of ghostly frocks, flowing fringe skirts, and rugged chore jackets, the fashion world has been enamored with any outerwear that's made of waxy cotton or canvas and features a corduroy collar. The trend isn't going to end when summer does. Miuccia Prada and Raf Simons as well as Pharrell Williams at Louis Vuitton and Kim Jones at Dior are all making it crystal clear in their fall/winter 2024 collections that workwear in the form of chore and country coats will reign for the entirety of the year.

Your social media feed might not have been inundated with menswear content last week, but mine was, and a majority of it was tied to the many glove moments from the shows in both Milan and Paris. Specifically, Gucci's burgundy and bright-green gloves that strategically matched each model's oversize Jackie bags were a fan favorite—as were the elbow-length leather styles seen at Dries Van Noten, a trend that's very much spreading on the womenswear side of things as well.

Just like the sky outside this winter, gray was impossible to miss on the menswear runways this season. Highlights include the heavy gray��hoodie styled alongside charcoal trousers and a tie-clad button-down shirt at Valentino and the single-breasted fuzzy coat at Gucci that was paired with a matching skinny necktie, gloves, a bag, and trousers. In other words, the groutfit is here, and it looks damn good—no sweatpants in sight.

If you're on the hunt for a new jewelry trend that doesn't yet feel overdone, look no further than the growing brooch fad, which is perfect for making your oversize, outfit-covering coats feel stylized and interesting during the colder months of the year. Though brands like Loewe, Saint Laurent, and Gucci are already dabbling in the brooch game, my favorite destination for lapel adornments is the vintage market, where there's a seemingly endless supply of baubles for you to choose from.

I know, I know—wearing corduroys for fall isn't exactly a groundbreaking phenomenon, but after finding the wide-wale, split-hem versions at Fendi, every other pair ever made in the autumnal fabric flew out the window. Then more arrived at S.S.Daley and Neil Barrett, and just like that, I knew that a new, very chic dawn was on the horizon for the formerly slept-on pant trend. I, for one, can't wait.

Canadian tuxedos rarely get the attention they deserve when they're styled on the streets, but they really don't on the runways, where either far more formal or out-there ensembles take precedence over casual ones like double denim. But not this season. From Louis Vuitton's Western-inspired take to Dries Van Noten's denim double-breasted suit, jeans were styled from head to toe all across the fall collections, finally getting a stage worthy of their glory.

Sometimes, the least flashy pieces are the most interesting ones, especially when it comes to menswear. Nowhere was this idea presented more clearly than in the suits shown on the fall/winter 2024 runways. Forget oversize suits and cutouts—at Gucci, Prada, Dries Van Noten, Dior, and more, officewear was all about a return to classic tailoring. Prada took the double-breasted route, while timeless tuxedo silhouettes won out at Dries.

The Valentino show was a feast for the senses. With Kaia Gerber on the runway, Florence Pugh in the front row, and FKA Twigs performing on stage, I don't blame the guests if they didn't know where to look—eye candy was quite literally all around them. As for the collection itself, the new pieces were simply divine and included an assortment of ethereal dresses, covetable bags, and must-have shoes.

One of the standout motifs of the S/S 24 collection was sculptural 3D cutouts. "I wanted to use embroidery not as decoration, but as structure that becomes a fabric in itself,” Creative Director Pierpaolo Piccioli told Vogue of the cutout technique he used on dresses, tops, and skirts. "I think this is the most exposed collection I’ve done; it shows skin but in a different way.” Scroll down for the five things you need to know about Valentino's newest show. 

1. FKA Twigs Put on a Mesmerizing Performance

The Valentino show started not with a model but with a musician. FKA Twigs burst onto the scene at the École des Beaux-Arts, sprinting down the entire length of the runway before climbing on top of an elevated stage in the center of a courtyard, where a handful of dancers were already positioned. They continued their performance as models walked the runway, creating an electric atmosphere. 

2. The Front Row Was Stacked With A-Listers

Valentino attracted an exceptionally stylish front-row crowd that included Maude Apatow, Leslie Mann, Andrew Garfield, Florence Pugh, Penn Badgley, Simone Ashley, Paris and Nicky Hilton, Rosie Huntington-Whiteley, Charles Melton, Samara Weaving, Olivia Dean, Cher, Kris Jenner, and others.

3. The Model Lineup Was Equally Impressive

Kaia Gerber opened the show in a beautiful white minidress. Adut Akech and Vittoria Ceretti were also among the standout models.

Suddenly I need a floor-length button-down dress à la Adut Akech. 

4. The VLogo Moon Bag Is the Season's It Accessory

Valentino certainly knows how to design an iconic accessory, and this season was no exception. The brand's newest offering is almost guaranteed to become a cult favorite: the VLogo Moon Bag. Featuring a gold logo worn around the wrist, the new design is as pretty as a piece of jewelry. 

The bag came down the runway in a slew of colors, including black, white, green, brown, tan, pink, and gray. 

5. The Collection Featured Sculptural 3D Cutouts

This is not your grandmother's doily. Piccioli presented no less than a dozen versions of the intricately detailed 3D cutouts you can see in the above image. The designer likened the technique to high-relief sculpture.
