What was once considered niche or avant-garde is now the benchmark for contemporary sophistication. "So much of the enthusiasm started with the artists and jewelers themselves. A lot of the most high-profile and popular designers right now are intrinsically attracted to color, so they're doing amazing things with these gems," explains Xarissa, the fine jewelry enthusiast behind the viral @jewel_boxing account. "You just have so many more options in creating a design when the whole rainbow is available to you."

The rise of perfect, colorless lab diamonds, Xarissa explains, might also be a big reason for the shift toward personality-driven, colorful pieces. "They're almost always very bright, very white, and very big," she explains. "There's nothing wrong with that, but at a certain point, your eye stops seeing them, and it takes something new, like colored gemstones or fancy color diamonds, to catch someone's attention."

This shift is deeply tied to cultural appetite. After several years marked by global uncertainty, buyers are leaning toward joy-infused luxury—objects that feel optimistic and alive. Jewel tones bring that in abundance. Wearing a vivid gemstone has become a kind of symbolic rebellion and a way to embrace brightness and pleasure in a world that has often felt muted. It's prompted generational shifts, too, explains Eliza O'Connor, founder and designer of Real Fine Studio. "Traditional gemstones like sapphires and rubies were the pieces my grandmother's generation gravitated toward, and they are having a real revival. Younger clients are drawn to them again, but for different reasons," she explains, noting the return of nostalgia. There's something quite special about digging through estate-sale pieces or your grandmother's jewelry box. Each new gemstone piece, seeped in history, elicits a sentimental reaction.

"[Younger people] love the heritage and history of these stones, but they want them styled in a more modern, effortless way, which is why our Heirloom Signet has become so popular," O'Connor notes. "It is a modern take on a vintage-feeling piece that becomes so personal through colored gemstones."

Designers are responding accordingly, introducing high-voltage palettes that celebrate vibrancy over restraint. Where collections once prioritized icy symmetry and precision, today's pieces are bold, warm, and full of character. Shermineh Ghane, designer behind Talāyee, is known for her chunky, almost art-deco silhouettes, and customers are taking notice. "I'm seeing a lot of my higher-spend clients asking for emerald, sapphire, and ruby combinations set in heavy gold-bezel frames," she notes. "They also see it as a way to stand out as lab-grown jewelry continues to popularize."

This movement isn't only aesthetic. It's also technical and historical. Many of the most sought-after colored gemstones are rare, finite, and deeply tied to the earth's geological story. A Burmese ruby of exceptional saturation or a Kashmir sapphire with velvety depth is a beautiful masterpiece created over millions of years. Collectors value this scarcity, and auction houses have seen surges in record-breaking sales of colored stones. "Over the last year, the shift I've noticed is my clients are more well-versed with colored-gemstone knowledge," Ghane adds. "They are curious about color and origin. They want to be part of the process of picking out their gemstone so that their jewelry is completely unique to them, and they get excited by the array of choices that are available to them based on their preferences."

At both Talāyee Fine Jewelry and Real Fine Studio, there's a deep appreciation for the gemstone-sourcing process. The same goes for Inés Capó, cofounder and designer at İtä. "Colored gemstones require a lot more hands-on selection. We spend a significant amount of time finding the exact tone and saturation we're looking for because color can vary dramatically from stone to stone and colored stones show flaws more easily," Capó explains. "Wearability is also always a key factor in our design process. Sometimes, we might find a truly stunning emerald for a piece, but we decide not to use it if it's too delicate for the design's structure."

What's particularly striking about this moment is how personal it has become. Clients are increasingly designing custom pieces centered on colored stones, choosing hues that align with significant memories and emotional values. A mint tourmaline might commemorate a coastal honeymoon. A fiery orange spessartine may symbolize transformation. A lavender sapphire could represent serenity. Color allows wearers to build jewelry wardrobes that tell stories, not just flash status, explains Capó. "Jewelry buying is deeply emotional, and different hues evoke different moods, energies, and forms of self-expression," she says. "That kind of connection doesn't disappear with trends. It's part of us. It's kind of like a relationship. You don't just walk away from it. Breaking up with a color you love is definitely harder than saying goodbye to your skinny jeans."

I’m constantly seeking out key pieces, and in this instance, a handbag, which slips into my pared-back, vintage-infused wardrobe, carrying the hallmarks of stylish eras past whilst bringing them thoroughly into the modern age.

I’ve been hunting down my next luxury handbag purchase for a while, so I thought it best to give this new Gucci style a thorough test drive and review. Someone has to! I’m after the perfect bag to take me from office days to evenings out in the city, as well as to accompany many an off-duty weekend outfit. I spent a sunny Sunday in London with the latest iteration of the Gucci Giglio in suede to see if it lives up to its style credentials and celebrity fanfare. What Is the Gucci Giglio?

The Gucci Giglio is a brand-new handbag design, unveiled during Gucci's Cruise 2026 runway show, which took place in the brand's birthplace of Florence in May 2025. The show was hosted at Palazzo Settimanni, a 15th-century mansion which is home to the official Gucci archive. Lifting inspiration directly from said archive, the new Gucci Giglio has been imagined as an homage to the city of Florence, as well as to pay respect to the “giglio” (Italian for lily flower), which has been an emblem of the city since the Renaissance.

The Giglio features an all-over interlocking double-G monogram pattern, plus classic red and green striped webbing trims, recalling the Italian ancestry, equestrian legacy and fine-luggage heritage of the brand. It’s a large shopper shape with a rounded cut-out handle, which flows with the silhouette of the bag and its trim. This makes it wearable on the shoulder, in the crook of the arm or simply by holding the handle. Unstructured, with a soft, malleable feel, the Giglio feels plush, sumptuous and easy to grab and throw your daily items into.

It has a single hidden magnetic closure inside and is complemented with a detachable pouch in matching fabric for small, loose items. I chose to test-drive the Medium Brown GG iteration: a rich, nutty brown in a velvety-suede fabrication, lined with a cotton-canvas twill. The bag is available in sizes Large and Small (the Small also comes with a handy crossbody strap), as well as in other hues including beige, black and denim canvas, smooth black and dark-brown leather and, lastly, dark-blue suede monogram.

My Review of the Gucci Giglio

As far as iconic handbag labels go, Gucci has always been high up there. Having long been an admirer of the brand and owning a few of its styles over the years, I was excited to take this brand-new model for a spin. When I first saw the Giglio on the runway, what struck me initially was its all-over monogram, oversized shape and distinctive sporting stripes, all of which are synonymous with the brand. This potent mix of House codes means it is unmistakably and timelessly Gucci. I, for one, love these accents and how they add an expensive-looking, runway-inspired and vintage-leaning allure (my holy grail) to an otherwise understated outfit.

I took the Giglio on a Sunday-afternoon jaunt through London's ultra-stylish Marylebone neighbourhood, popping into shops, a café, public gardens and my favourite florist. For my outfit, I took cues from Sienna Miller and Suki Waterhouse, reaching for a classic pair of blue denim jeans, my trusty suede Gucci Horsebit loafers, a white tee and a cashmere crew neck, finished with a boxy green blazer and oversized aviators, from yes, you guessed it, Gucci. This sort of outfit is classic "me": tailored but casual, sharp but easy and could easily have been transported from, say, the '70s or '90s, but still stylish now and (I say, confidently) for years to come. The bag felt like a natural addition to this ensemble, adding a retro flair but aiding my busy, city-based, day-to-night needs.

Its oversized shape also harks back to the Y2K era of the "ludicrously capacious bag", seen on every starlet and It girl of the time (I'm looking at you, Paris, Nicole et al.), which, as a millennial, is one of my eternal style references. I also adore its maximalist-meets-minimalist charm. Yes, it's big, bold and a little bit head-turning, but it's also luxurious in texture, classic in colour and pattern and super practical. The big ol' fashion dial is slowly but surely swinging back to loud luxury, having been quiet for quite some time now. The Gucci Giglio sits in both camps quite confidently; I believe both pared-back dressers and those who like to style themselves more boldly can equally find common ground with this bag.

As someone with a lot of stuff and a desire to carry it with me at all times, seven days a week, the Giglio really does fit the bill. Holding my laptop, book, wallet, sunglasses case, AirPods and various other accoutrements, this bag really can house it all, and quite comfortably, too. The thick straps are reinforced with the webbed trim, so as much as the bag is relatively unstructured and light, it has a grab-and-go quality I appreciate. The straps allow for over-the-shoulder wear, which is great when you need to be hands-free. I also quite like the look of tucking the whole bag under the upper arm, and this is quite possible given how soft and supple it is. Otherwise, hanging from the crook of my arm felt natural, as did swinging the bag from the straps in one hand.

All in all, I really enjoyed my time with the Giglio. Its nostalgic charm, modern ease and everyday practicality tick so many boxes for me, and its colour and finishes will give my Monday-to-Friday looks an expensive edge, as well as my off-duty weekend 'fits. It's the kind of bag I know will work with dresses, much like on the runway, as well as suiting, separates, skirts and jeans. The house of Gucci has always pioneered individuality, cutting-edge style and progressive ideas in fashion, always through its classic, archival lens. This is a sentiment which allows for playful styling and constant re-invention with the Giglio; it's not a bag that takes itself too seriously, and I'd be excited to explore investing in this bag in the near future for a daily dose of iconic, timeless and heritage spirit, as well as endless styling possibilities.

Is the Gucci Giglio Worth It?

Competing with other luxury household names such as Prada, Chanel and Saint Laurent is no small feat. Luckily, Gucci has well over 100 years under its belt, with its first store opening in Florence way back in 1921. By today's standards, Gucci still reigns supreme, and with Demna Gvasalia (previously creative director at Balenciaga and co-founder of Vetements), now firmly in the driving seat, the fashion world is excited to see how he takes the heritage house forward, particularly with bags, shoes and leather goods—Gucci's defining calling cards.

In terms of the Giglio, you may be wondering if it's really worth the price tag. Remember, this is a luxury item, so careful consideration and thoughtful mulling over are necessary before parting with your hard-earned cash. The Large tote bags have a starting price of £1600 for the GG canvas, going up to £2170 for the suede colourways and £2470 for the full leather. 6. Balenciaga Rodeo

Style Notes: Looking for something a little more cutting edge, but still super classic? Enter the Balenciaga Rodeo. 7. Chloé Paddington

Style Notes: Y2K and noughties handbags are undergoing a bit of a renaissance—just ask eternal muse and fashion icon, Alexa Chung. For autumn and winter 2025, Chemena Kamali sent the fan-favourite Paddington down the Chloé runway, and fans scrambled to unearth their very own ones from their attics or to get onto the wish list for the re-issue.

Alexa Chung is obviously ahead of the pack here and has been wearing her black and gold hardware one repeatedly, and now well into the winter months. When I sat down with Bhumi Khimavat, the founder and designer behind Miraki, it quickly became clear that her approach to diamonds is anything but ordinary. Bhumi, who comes from a family deeply rooted in fine jewelry, brings a contemporary, soulful perspective to the craft— one that blends technical precision with an intuitive understanding of beauty. Miraki, her brainchild, was born out of a desire to make high-quality, consciously crafted diamond jewelry that feels as personal as it is luxurious. Think timeless pieces with a quiet edge and everyday staples that still manage to feel special. How to Buy Diamond Stud Earrings

Tip #1: Shop the Four Cs (and Not Just Carat)

"Carat weight may steal the attention, but the real magic lies in the cut, color, and character of each diamond," explains Khimavat. Just like shopping for an engagement ring, all other aspects besides the physical size of the stone also matter. To Khimavat, the cut of the stone might be the most important aspect since it's what gives diamonds their sparkle, brilliance, and fire. Color is also key, too, considering that diamond stud earrings sit closer to your face. "D to F [color] hues create that clean, radiant glow, while G to H tones offer a softer warmth that flatters every skin tone," she adds.

Most diamond stud pairs aren't cut from the same stone, so it's important to make sure your two diamond studs are as close as possible when it comes to cut and color. "It is not just about two diamonds of the same size; it is about two stones that feel aligned," Khimavat notes. "They harmonize brilliance, fire, and personality so your studs shimmer in perfect symmetry."

Tip #2: Go Fancy or Go Home

A classic pair of diamond studs won't ever go out of style. If you're in the market for something that'll far outlive any trend cycle, Khimavat suggests going with a classic round, brilliant-cut pair of diamond studs. "That level of craftsmanship naturally makes it the most sought after and slightly higher in price," she notes. Most diamond studs might begin around $850 to $1000 at lower carat weights.

Fashion people, though, have been opting for more and more experimental shapes when it comes to their diamond earrings. "They are mixing shapes, stacking piercings, and curating gorgeous ear stacks instead of simple pairs, creating combinations that reflect their individuality and personality," notes Khimavat. Fancy shapes like ovals, asschers, princess cut, and even heart-shaped diamond studs have been cropping up lately. At the end of the day, she suggests going for a shape that feels authentically you: "Jewelry should never be about rules or convention, it should be about resonance, the feeling a piece evokes when it mirrors your confidence and essence."

Tip #3: Ask for Exact Certification Details

If you're dropping hundreds or even thousands on diamond stud earrings, it's best to get a certification to prove that your diamonds are what they say they are. If you're buying anything above 2 carats (1-carat in each ear), ask your jeweler to provide a GIA, IGI, or SGL certification for stones, especially if they're loose and you're planning on setting them later on.

For furnished jewelry, it's more common to see an IGI or SGL certification, Khimavat explains, noting that these independently graded reports also take into account the craftsmanship of the non-diamond piece. "Certification is about trust, and trust is everything," Khimavat says. "Each of these evaluates the diamond through the global 4 Cs with complete objectivity, ensuring transparency and authenticity."

Tip #4: Size (and Setting) Matters

Setting styles may seem subtle, but they transform everything, from how your diamonds catch the light to how they rest on your ear, Khimavat explains. There are a couple of different options to choose from: four-prong basket settings (often the most classic and safest), three-prong martini settings (sleek, balanced, and closer to the ear), or bezel settings that securely wrap the entire diamond in white or yellow gold.

"I always tell clients that prongs bring brilliance, bezels offer security, and martinis create harmony, but beyond style, it is always about lifestyle," Khimavat adds. "If you are active or work with your hands, a bezel will serve you beautifully. If you love that airy, open sparkle, prongs are perfect."

The larger your diamond, the more protection you should think about having in a setting. Anything above 6 carat total weight (or 3 carats in each ear), most jewelry fanatics will tell you to stay away from a three-prong setting and instead opt for a four-prong setting or a basket setting.

Tip #5: Beyond the Buy

Although diamonds are precious, you shouldn't feel like you can only wear them on certain occasions. After all, diamond studs are perfect for everyday wear and will last a lifetime, especially if you take care of them. To best keep your diamond stud earrings sparkling and bright, Khimavat suggests a gentle, weekly clean with warm water, a soft toothbrush, and mild soap, making sure to rinse well and dry off with a microfiber cloth.

If your pieces are a bit more delicate or rare, Khimavat notes it's best to skip harsh jewelry cleaning solutions or a vibrating ultrasonic machine, as they can loosen prongs or dull materials over time. "Every 6 to 12 months, take your jewelry to a trusted jeweler for a professional clean and inspection," she also suggests. "Think of it as a spa day for your jewels, restoring both its shine and its strength."

With tennis, the brand has infused the style, elegance, and sportsmanship of the game into its clothing, including the introduction of the iconic polo shirt in 1972. In 2005, the brand became the official outfitter of the US Open, a long-lasting partnership that continues to this day. Ralph Lauren has defined the image of tennis style, making it a symbol of heritage and classic American sportswear on and off the court.

With an enduring partnership spanning 20 years, Ralph Lauren has been the official outfitter of the tournament since 2005. Bags from The Row are in huge demand among celebrities and the fashion set alike. In recent months, rumors have been swirling that the Margaux—the cult soft-leather top-handle tote—has been discontinued, leading to soaring prices on the secondhand market. In New York, that means everything from my headphones to my iPhone to swipe when getting on the subway.

I was able to tuck a magazine inside as well as all of the other everyday essentials I won't leave the house without—including sunglasses, lip balm, and hair accessories.

The big carry-all taps into the XXL tote trend without feeling too giant, yet it has plenty of storage space.

The clutch originally debuted in the '80s when it was named after actress Lauren Hutton, who wore it in the film American Gigolo. In recent years, it has since garnered a cult-like following with fashion fans searching for it on the vintage market. For those who couldn't track one down, though, the bag was recently relaunched and is set to be the next key buy from the Italian fashion house.

When we first reported on the flat-shoe renaissance, I didn't realize just how impactful it would be. Flats have become ever more popular in recent years, from ballerinas to mesh styles to slingbacks to "naked" shoes. The winning shape, however, is the Rebecca flat from Loro Piana, designed with an almond toe and a pointed silhouette that makes it the perfect elongating shape. It has carved itself out as a smart buy and is so popular that the brand continues to release it in new colorways.

One thing that isn't surprising? The inclusion of a timepiece on this list. In recent years, watches have exploded as a category and are reflected in the sales numbers. What may be surprising, however, is the watch that is more popular than ever, despite its long history. Yet another clutch ranks as a top contender for best designer bag buy of 2024: The Row Margaux clutch. A big part of my job as a fashion editor is to attend runway shows and market appointments to see what's coming up in the latest collections, stay current on the trends, interview leading industry experts, and know about the biggest drops in the fashion space before they are even released. Earlier this year, we declared that we’ve entered the era of the timepiece with the rise of women entering the watch space, both from an expert and shopping point of view. As we enter the second half of 2024, it’s clear that this couldn’t be more true and there are new insights about what is yet to unfold in the watch world throughout the year. Much of that newness was shown at the annual Watches and Wonders trade show in Geneva, Switzerland where industry insiders attended to see the latest timepieces unveiled by luxury brands.

To decode the biggest trends set to define the watch world in 2024, we spoke with experts to weigh in on the key takeaways. Overall, things were dialed back. “Watches and Wonders was a lot calmer than 2022 and 2023. To be fully transparent, it felt like the industry was reacting to the economic reality,” explains Malaika Crawford, a stylist and style editor at Hodinkee. “There were far less gimmicks and more of a focus on easy-to-digest watches for the mass consumer. With timepieces like The Cut from Hermes and the Tudor BB Monochrome, the show was certainly steering us in a more sensible direction to previous years.”

That isn’t to say that everything was about simple, practical pieces as there were also some elaborate showstoppers. Jewelry-meets-watch timepieces in the form of bejeweled necklaces, pendants, and even belts was another standout trends, as Trang Trinh, the founder of Girls O’Clock, pointed out. "There’s no doubt we all caught baignoire bangle fever in 2023. But that was the minimalist’s approach. This year we have a super diverse and slight more maximalist take on the jewelry-watch-hybrid category," Crawford shares. "Piaget is offering high jewelry glamor with its swinging sautoirs, Patek has made an Ellipse on mesh bracelet (a definite ode to the original '70s design), Chanel gave us Diana Vreeland worthy diamond cuff as well as a premiere sautoire belt. And Cartier went in for their second bangle, the slightly more ornate reflection de Cartier, available with diamonds or with a mosaic of colored stones. If you’re into self adornment in a '70s/'80s, more-is-more, Loulou de la Falaise Marrakesh fantasy kind of way then it’s your year."

A return to elegance is something we are seeing in fashion overall in 2024, and that is translating to the watch space as well. With a movement away from flashy design, we are seeing the return of classic pieces including the dress watch set on a leather band. “Trends and our tastes of late seem to have gone back to the basics and this applies to watches as well," Tringh shares.

"In a world of mini- and jewelry-watches, I’m most excited for the return of the sports watch—this time, much more empowering than the era of the 'boyfriend watch', yet just as sexy," Tringh says. "Tudor released their Black Bay 58, a dive watch, in 18k yellow gold and it remains my favorite watch unveiled at Watches & Wonders. Yellow gold watches are traditionally the loudest in the room, their hue emphasized with a polished finish. But the gold on this Tudor Black Bay 58 feels shockingly subtle in person with its brushed finish, almost as if it were a secret for its wearer to appreciate in private. To complete it, the military green dial and bezel harmonize beautifully with the yellow gold." The Tudor watch Tringh mentions

"Tudor wasn’t the only one who sought to redefine sporty—Hermès this year really emphasized their 'The Cut' watch, a softer, more rounded sports watch available in steel or two-toned steel and rose gold, with or without diamonds on the bezel, and in bracelet form or rubber-strapped," Tringh shares. "The watch itself is sleek, yet geometric, and above all, it’s distinctly Hermès."

"Where flair meets simplicity, monochrome watches strike the fine line of providing a subtle pop of color without overpowering the overall look. And rather, the attention is shifted to the silhouette of the watch instead," Tringh reports. "Case in point: Audemars Piguet released their Code 11.59 in eggplant and baby blue. Up close, your eye is drawn to the angles and curvature of the case, whereas afar, you can’t help but lust after its color palette. Likewise, Cartier unveiled their popular Mini Baignoires in monochrome shades of metallic purple, bronze, and black. The result is an emphasis on the gleaming watch case. Who said minimalists and maximalists can’t agree?"

"Vintage reissues continue to dominate. The Piaget Polo 79, the Cartier Privé Tortue Monopoussoire chronograph, and the Cartier Tank LC Mini are all examples of vintage styles being rehashed to appease the appetite for more design-driven watches," Crawford says.

"Originating from playful celebrity styling moments, cue: Rihanna's watch anklet and Emma Chamberlain's watch choker, the statement watch trend has taken the internet—and brands—by storm," Tringh observes. "Chanel reimagined their Première watch into a versatile necklace that doubles as a belt, and Piaget revisited their Swinging Sautoir with sensibility: the watch pendant can be unclasped and worn on the wrist with a satin strap. As watch brands continue to push the boundaries of creativity and functionality, the marriage of watches and jewelry is set to redefine accessorizing in the digital age."

Of every timepiece presented at Watches and Wonders, one new release immediately went viral amongst the watch community: the Cartier Mini Tank Louis. The shrunken proportions of the tank watch play into the movement toward tiny watches that is all but taking over in the watch world. "The Tank LC mini is my prediction for next cult buy," Crawford shares. "Tiny watches have become ubiquitous within the collector community over the past couple of years. A wide breadth of social media content has led to a voracious appetite amongst collectors (old and new) for smaller, design-led watches. Celebrities have embraced the trend (see Timothée Chalamet wearing a ladies' Crash), and in turn have caused the wider world to pay attention to 'men in small watches'. The Tank Mini is delicate, but not too precious. It’s stackable, but unlike the Baignoire bangle, which truly feels more jewelry-like to me, this is a watch with pre-existing chops that has been shrunken down according to the tastes of the moment."

Tringh agrees that this is the key timepiece primed to take over in 2024. "Cartier’s classic Tank came back this year in mini form and it’s poised to take over our social media feeds, she predicts. "The Tank Mini itself isn’t a new release historically speaking for Cartier, but rather a re-release of the models sold in in the late ‘80s and early ‘90s. But clean-cut fashion of today has shifted attention away from flamboyant colors, silhouettes, and runway gimmicks and evolved it into a respect for craftsmanship and—this is where the magic lies—brand history. Similar to Bottega Veneta's intrecciato revival in recent years, this downsized Tank is more than just a miniature, it's a testament to enduring elegance."
