Earlier this year, I made the decision to curb my shopping by setting a spending limit on trendy purchases so I don't end up with a closet full of individual pieces that I struggle to style together and so I can actually save up for worthwhile wardrobe investments that will ideally outlast trends and outsmart the seasons. I'm more interested than ever before in building a wardrobe that's timeless and trend-agnostic and, most importantly, feels like me.

I know I'm not the only one feeling this way, either. Trend fatigue feels like it's at an all-time high, and I think the answer to this exhaustion lies in a "fewer but better" mindset. With that, I've curated my list of the eight highly specific items that I think are worthy of the investment. They're cool, they're classic, and they're ultimately made to last. From ribbed socks and rigid denim to organic cotton tees and handcrafted leather belts, each of these closet staples could very well become the only ones you ever need to own.

1. Flore Flore Tees + Tanks

There's a reason this French label is where every fashion editor buys their basics. The cotton is heavier and denser than what you'll find elsewhere, so the shape holds up wear after wear. It might seem indulgent to spend real money on socks, but Comme Si makes a compelling case for quality that's worth spending on. Plus, the ribbed texture looks chic with a pair of loafers, and the color range is virtually endless.

Think about it—is there anything we wear more than T-shirts? If you're someone who finds complicated outfit trends highly frustrating, I think you're going to be very pleased with the look Hailey Bieber just wore in NYC. It was as simple as it gets and speaks to something I've noticed that's happening in fashion this year.

Yes, maximalism is very much back, but on the flip side, many of the biggest trends of the season are actually basics. Polo-neck pullovers, knee-length skirts, raglan tees, white pants and jeans, and cropped flared pants are just a few of the trends I'm referring to. Even the recent runways of top fashion houses such as Chanel have heavily featured wearable basics in recent collections, which brings me back to Bieber's outfit.

While heading to lunch in downtown Manhattan on Friday, Bieber was photographed wearing a low-key outfit that included an oversize long-sleeve tee, relaxed-fitting jeans, and flip-flops with a kitten heel. She accessorized with a Chanel croc tote and vintage Gucci sunglasses. A quick scroll through Instagram proved that she's not the only one wearing baggy long-sleeve tees, relaxed-fitting jeans, and flip-flops. I've been a Who What Wear editor for 12 years, and I'm pretty sure that's how long I've been writing about Alexa Chung's T-shirt outfits. She's basically a T-shirt-outfit icon, and the one she just wore in Milan proves exactly why. It involves both a major 2026 T-shirt trend and a T-shirt styling trend.

Chung traveled to Italy for Milan Design Week and was photographed at yesterday's Miu Miu Literary Club event. For the occasion, she chose a casual, effortlessly cool outfit consisting of a brown suede Miu Miu jacket, baggy jeans, and black ballet flats, but it was what she wore underneath the jacket that caught my attention. The T-shirt trend I'm referring to is a colorful tee (in this case, bright yellow) instead of a white one. And the styling trend I'm referring to is the colorful tee layered under a sweater. A sweater in any color would work, but tees in a bright hue look especially cool against steely gray.

Jennifer Lawrence is the quintessential millennial, and as a millennial myself, I think I have the credentials to say that. I could list all the reasons why she's the quintessential millennial, but for now, let's stick to her style—specifically, one of the off-duty outfits she just wore in NYC.

While I no longer live in NYC, I visit quite a bit, and every time I do, I see chic millennials wearing the outfit trend Lawrence was spotted in on this particular occasion: a boxy white T-shirt, black pull-on pants (hers were satin, FYI), black flats, and a baseball cap (which more often than not, has a logo). We millennials love a boxy tee and pants that are comfortable but still look polished. And if I had a dollar for every Polo Ralph Lauren baseball cap I see them wear, I'd be able to buy a few more to add to my already large collection of them.

All of this said, millennials are, of course, not the only age group that wears this outfit. I also want to point out that it's the perfect year-round outfit for NYC, as you can customize it by adding an extra layer if it's chilly, and change up the shoes and other accessories according to the season or to dress it up or down.

I've lived in L.A. for over 15 years now, which I think officially makes me an Angeleno. Given Southern California's laid-back lifestyle and mild year-round weather, there's no question I've established an easy and casual daily uniform since moving here, and it's as simple as it gets—a pair of jeans and a white tee. It's an outfit formula I turn to almost daily and acts as the perfect base I then get to play up with trendy accessories and of-the-moment shoes. I can also throw on a variety of cardigans, blazers, and jackets, depending on the occasion.

Not surprisingly, I've tried and tested a lot of jeans and tees along the way and love refreshing the two staples with new styles and silhouettes on a regular basis. Today, I want to share my favorite jeans and tees that I rely on the most. I gravitate toward them because of the fit and quality and how easy they are to wear. Uniqlo Crew Neck T-Shirt: I kid you not when I say I wear this T-shirt almost every single day! That's why I keep reordering it and must have about four now that I wear on rotation. It's one of my favorites. Made from 100% cotton with an interlock-knit jersey weave, the fabric has a smooth finish and is really comfortable, not thin or see-through at all. I like the fact that it has a balanced fit—not too tight, not too loose—and a straight silhouette. It's one of those tees you can wear with literally everything, and I tell everyone I know to buy it! Still Here Cool Jeans: These are one of my favorite pairs of jeans in my closet, and they're perfect for casual L.A. days. Not only are the jeans trend-forward and loved among the fashion set and celebs (we often see Zoë Kravitz wearing a pair), but they are also super comfortable. They feature a relaxed, wide-leg, low-rise silhouette with an adjustable toggle string. Every time I wear these, I get compliments on them! They're a little on the pricey side, but I promise you won't regret them, especially if you like a relaxed, low-rise silhouette. (For reference, I'm wearing a size 26.)

Perfectwhitetee Sheryl Tee: I'm a huge fan of Perfectwhitetee's selection of basics and own a number of tees from the brand. If you're looking for a fitted baby tee, then don't sleep on the Sheryl. It has a seriously soft, textured fabric and exudes chic '90s vibes. (For reference, I'm wearing a size XS.)

Citizens of Humanity Annina Jeans: If you're looking for a wide-leg silhouette you can easily dress up or down, then Citizens' Annina Jeans are a must. This has a loose, mid-rise silhouette that feels relaxed yet polished. You'll never be disappointed by the quality of Citizens of Humanity jeans—they'll last a lifetime. Goldie Amore Tee: One of my new favorites, Goldie's Amore Tee has a relaxed, but not too oversize, fit and is smooth, soft, and lightweight. It's made from 100% pima cotton and oozes cool-girl effortlessness. (For reference, I'm wearing a size small.)

We the Free Tennessee Low-Rise Boyfriend Jeans: I was looking to add a few more low-rise jeans to my collection, and this Free People find has been a winner. I get asked where they're from every time I wear them. They're made to be worn low on the hips and have a cool, effortless wide-leg silhouette. Keep in mind these are made from non-stretch denim and run slightly small, so I suggest sizing up for a more comfortable fit. (For reference, I am wearing a size 27.)

Artless Reese Tee: I own this high-quality tee in navy and white. It has a crisp neckline and a fit that strikes the perfect balance between boxy and tailored with a softly cropped silhouette. What stands out as soon as you put this on is its beautiful fabric. It's made from structured, heavyweight 100% cotton, so in other words, this is anything but flimsy. (For reference, I am wearing a size XS.)

Agolde 90s Pinch Waist Jeans: I've owned these jeans for quite some time now, and they're still going strong in my wardrobe and are on frequent outfit rotation. Loved by our editors, these jeans have a vintage-inspired high-rise, straight-leg silhouette and are super flattering. They look chic paired with heels and flats alike. I tend to cuff them when I wear them with sneakers or flats. These soften over time and actually get more comfortable with wear. (For reference, I am wearing a size 26.)
