"A pair of slightly oversize tortoise sunglasses is literally style 101," says Kat. "I have a smaller face, so I was pleasantly surprised that I could carry off the oversize look. But leave it to Michael Kors to kill it with the shape." Kat has an affinity for pants, but this summer, she's switching it up and going for throw-on dresses that still feel cool and stylish. And she describes the Karlie frames as "the luxe cherry on top" of this easy, breezy ensemble.

Whenever I'm looking for outfit inspo that's feminine and elevated, I always end up scrolling Kat's Instagram grid. She makes even the simplest silhouettes feel interesting, and this look is no different. As the day came to an end, Beltre was off to hang out with friends in the city. And she made sure whatever look she threw on would carry her from day to night seamlessly. I'll never forget the look on my fiancé's face as he watched me carry an oversized tray piled with many, many sunglasses into our new apartment when we moved earlier this year. (We have, um, very little storage space. But hey, I won't apologize for my love of sunnies!) I've tried all of the trendy pairs throughout the years, some of which I still own and wear on the regular while others have made their way into various donation bins around Los Angeles. So you could say I was excited when I went through the Burberry collection and found a pair of sunglasses in the designer's iconic pattern. And the coolest part? Here Seah styles her thick lenses with an oversize blazer, trend-forward split-leg trousers, and chunky slides—the perfect look for transitioning into summer. She tells me she's really into pairing something oversize with something a little more sleek and structured, but it's all about the accessories when it comes to pulling the look together. "To me, sunglasses finish off every look—I feel naked without them!" she says. "They just add the perfect amount of drama to my outfits."

Tenicka Boyd on the other hand is rarely seen in an outfit that doesn't include a pop of bold color (at the very least). She typically takes has a more-is-more mentality, so I just knew she would opt for these lilac lenses in the fun round shape. When I ask Boyd about her approach to fashion she says, "I want to constantly disrupt the narrative that you can’t be chic in color. I want to invite women to live a more colorful life!"

Unlike Seah, Boyd pairs her tailored separates with colorful sunglasses and footwear. "This color reminds me of the lavender fields in the South of France, which is where I want to be right now," she tells me, laughing. "Also this pair of sunglasses is so summer-read,y and can be dressed up or down," she continues. As a fashion editor, I'm all about versatility and am already picturing myself wearing these cute frames with all of the casual summer dresses I just bought. Sold.

Look, I realize there are certain situations where sunglasses just aren't necessary. Like, you know, when you're sleeping or out at night after the sun has set. De Silva agrees, telling me that her outfits feel incomplete without sunglasses. "They always make me feel like I’m channeling my alter ego. You know, the It girl with a fearless fashion sense and a bring-it-on type of attitude," she explains. "A good pair gives your outfit that finishing touch, and these feel like a modern take on classic Hollywood glamour."

Speaking of classic Hollywood glamour… De Silva's trench coat. Is there anything more classic for spring? Gonna go with no. "Pairing it with white combat boots and a matching handbag feels like the ideal mixture of timeless and trendy," says De Silva, who describes her style as just that but likes to keep an open mind. "I love fashion because it's constantly changing and leaves plenty of room for creativity and playfulness." And that my friends, is what spring dressing is all about.

Truthfully, I’m always buying things for myself—I deserve it! But when it comes to the holidays, I usually put my budget towards shopping for others, then treat myself to something small and fun for all of my hard work. What can I say!

Who is at the top of your list this year, and what is their typical style like?

The top person on my list would undoubtedly be my new husband. (We got married this year.) I’d say his style is classic with a twist, so he tends to lean into those more timeless items that have just a little something extra.

What makes a truly great gift?

To me, a great gift is something that’s personal and unique to a specific person. I also always like to give a gift that someone wouldn’t necessarily buy themselves. I think that makes the element of surprise much more fun.

What’s your favorite excuse to buy yourself something special?

I always like to buy something special for myself around the holiday season, typically something I’ve been eying throughout the year. I save and usually go for it toward the end of the year. Nothing wrong with treating yourself from time to time.

Who is at the top of your list this year, and what is their typical style like?

Top of my list this year is my mom (who is like my best friend!). Her style is minimal and classic and has inspired my own wardrobe since I was young. I love her effortless and simple looks.

What makes a truly great gift?

A great gift is always something thoughtful and meaningful. I love when the gift is something that can be used frequently and incorporated into everyday life.

What’s your favorite excuse to buy yourself something special?

I love a good "treat myself” moment! My favorite excuse would definitely be when I feel like I’ve been accomplishing my goals and seeing some sort of progress. I love also buying myself something for special occasions, like graduating from grad school, my birthday, or even just showing myself a little self-love.

Who is at the top of your list this year, and what is their typical style like?

Top of my list this year is definitely my dad. His style is definitely casual and cool, but I’ve noticed lately he really cares about putting together a stylish look, which I love!

What makes a truly great gift?

Truly great gifts to me are either tangible ones that make your loved ones feel seen and appreciated and, of course, bring them joy or ones that aren’t necessarily tangible, like experiences together that give them lifelong memories. For the tangible ones, you know when someone says something simple during a conversation like, "My pans are so old… I’ve been using this one for years!” They didn’t ask you for a pan, and I’m sure they aren’t even really consciously thinking about that at all, but you heard them, found them the perfect pan, and got it for them as a gift for the holidays. I love that moment when you see your loved one’s face and acknowledge that you hear them and want to make them feel loved and appreciated.

What’s your favorite excuse to buy yourself something special?

Well, to be honest, I don’t think you need an excuse! TREAT YOURSELF! But, if I had to choose an excuse, I would say do it when you feel you need the most love because displaying love to yourself, even if it’s in the form of gifting, is just as important as displaying love to others.

Who is at the top of your list this year, and what is their typical style like?

My work crew. This year has been a whirlwind, and knowing I had their friendship and support each day meant the world to me. My co-workers are all incredibly chic and on-trend, but their style is also understated and classic./span>

A great gift is something that feels personal and thoughtful; something that you know the person put the time into and really wanted you to enjoy.

What’s your favorite excuse to buy yourself something special?

Who needs an excuse! I think given how unexpected this year has been, we all deserve a little something special… but usually, I tend to treat myself when I accomplish a big milestone personally or professionally.

Moms give us a lot: their (almost) endless patience, their affection, their wisdom, their time, their record collections… And while we’re grateful for all of it—and hopefully show it year-round—we can’t help but regret some of the Mother’s Day gifts we’ve presented them with in the past.

I’m not talking about the homemade tokens of affection (I have it on good authority that moms actually do love homemade cards, art projects involving macaroni noodles, and DIY jewelry)… I’m talking about the uninspired, unwanted purchases that are usually worn politely once or twice before being relegated to the back of Mom’s closet or dresser drawer.

I don’t generally consider myself to be a slacker. At least I hadn’t up until the moment I found myself without gifts for quite a few people—including my two best friends, my boss, and my sister (all of whom will probably read this, sigh)—less than two weeks from the holidays. While teeny tiny frames and slim cat-eyes have been everywhere lately, we couldn’t help but notice another trend brewing just below the surface: Oblong sunglasses. As opposed to the ultra thin frames that took over fashion week, these lenses are a like the filled-out cousin of the micro sunnies. Their rectangular shape is familiar, just a little different this time around.

To further our suspicions, Illesteva just launched its newest collection. And yes, it includes the oblong rectangular frames we’re talking about. Considering the fact that Illesteva rolled out both round frames and tortoiseshell before those trends took to the masses, we’re thinking that this is yet another example of the brand predicting (or starting) the latest sunglasses trend.

Illesteva isn’t the only brand to catch on. In fact, we’ve been noticing some of the most credible labels creating unique versions of the style as of late. From Off White to Poppy Lissiman, cool-kid designers are getting behind the oblong shape—and we’re taking that as a sign that we should too. How we'll remember summer 2018: Bold colour. Vintage denim. Tiny sunglasses. But while trends are fun, it's how you interpret them through the lens of your own personal style that really makes a look well, a look. Our fashion heroes are the women who aren't afraid to experiment, but do it all within the context of their individual aesthetic. In all my years of working in fashion, I've never been able to pigeonhole my look as a certain "style". Being exposed to emerging trends on a daily basis, means my short attention span is always looking ahead. 

I can tell you about a few certain pieces I always have on rotation—like my Acne Studios Mock Leather Jacket ($2345) and the perfect pair of H&M jeans, but to me these are essentials, and don't mean all that much when we're talking about style.

Style is finding your signature 'vibe'. For some, it's easier than others. You might just be the girl who's always walked to the beat of her own drum—vintage band tee's, and straight-leg jeans aren't 'trends' to you, that's just who you are. 

But for others, and me included, it's not so black-and-white. I'm still not sure I've found my personal style for good, but I've sure gotten closer to being able to define it, and it's through the use of some core accessories that help anchor my look every day. 

Over the last few years, I made a conscious decision to stop spending money on accessories I knew I was just buying because it satisfied an urge to dip into a certain 'trend'. Now, I make a conscious decision, and I only buy pieces that will enhance my personal style, and help define it.

For me, it starts with jewellery. About ten years ago I decided that I was a 'gold' girl, and since then, have only bought special gold pieces that I wear again and again. They've become a part of me—pieces I'll never part with, but say a lot about my classic style. I have a few core pieces —earrings, necklaces for layering, rings for stacking—that tell a story, and make me feel 'put together'. 

I use jewellery to anchor my outfits every day—I never get lazy, always mixing it up. And while my fine gold jewels act as a second skin, my sunglasses, the finishing touch to every outfit, act as my armor. They add a confidence to my style, that only comes with the addition of the right shades.

Finding your sunglasses is such an empowering feeling. I have a few different styles that I keep on hand, depending where I'm going, and what I'm wearing. I wear my Ray-Ban Square Frame Flat Lens' as my everyday go-to. They perfectly frame my face, and the fine gold rim works back with my jewellery.

When I want to make more of a statement, and I'm wearing a 'bold' look (think florals or bright colours), I'll choose something with a point of difference. These Miu Miu frames really hit the mark—they're classic with a twist—exactly how I'd define my style right now.
