There’s nothing quite like a basket bag to make any day feel like spring and summer, no matter the weather. Not only are they great bags to throw everything into as you run out the door, but they also inevitably add that French je ne sais quoi to any outfit, whether that's a tracksuit or a wedding guest dress. Choosing the correct handbag to match your summer ensembles can be tricky. Black bags (which make up most of our collections) can often feel too drastic set against the breezier fabrications of summer clothes. This past summer I set off for a monthlong adventure to Europe. The destinations included Paris, Positano, and London. Naturally, the very idea of spending four glorious weeks abroad sounded delightful to me. However, while I'm certainly not complaining, the task of packing for that long was—shall we say—not the easiest feat. I challenged myself to fit everything into one piece of checked luggage with no flow-over totes. (I recently got this suitcase from Away, and it's amazing.) Turns out, I succeeded in my quest! Aside from a tutorial led by my sister on how to fold the Kondo way, one of the most efficient methods that allowed me to fit everything into one suitcase was choosing a bag that was so versatile I could carry it with every outfit I wore. The purse in question was the straw Augustin bag from Rouje. It had all the qualities I was searching for in a travel bag. It could fit underneath my shoulder, it was large enough to carry what I needed for the day but small enough to not be a burden, and most importantly, it's really, really cute.

Infiltrating the world of It bags is no small feat, especially when you're going up against arm candy heavyweights deeply rooted in fashion history (think the likes of Chanel, Gucci and Chloé). Which is precisely what makes the accomplishments of this particular brand all the more impressive. It may have been born 2015, but 2018 has certainly served as Los Angeles–based cool label Staud's breakout year. Having won over the Insta-set with its Bissett bag (a structured bucket with a minimal silhouette and chic top-handle), Staud went on to create a plethora of perfect handbag iterations, most of which have gone on to achieve the same cult status. So much so, Staud is officially one of the most searched-for bag brands of the year—an accolade it so deserves.

There are many reasons for its success. Naturally, the designs have to be on-point, as does the quality—both of which Staud has down. However, there's no denying that the sweet price-points have helped spearhead Staud's behemoth evolution. In my mind, trends are like waves in the ocean—unpredictable, sometimes turbulent, and constantly shifting. When you're wading through it all, you have to proactively choose not to ride every trendy wave and instead return to solid ground (aka those stable staples). That's an even more relevant sentiment during the summertime because practicality always wins out when push comes to shove. After all, who wants to be bothered by picking a cute outfit when it's boiling outside? Or who can buy into every summer trend when you're also trying to book a flight?
