As 2024 (dare I say it) almost draws to a close, I've entered the reflection phase (albeit a bit more prematurely but I can't help myself when Christmas is on the horizon!) One thing is for certain this season, I'm inspired. You may have deduced that winter isn't typically my favourite season, but since moving to Paris, I've witnessed winter style through a fresh lens when it was previously a dreaded season for fashion.

With that said, this year I'm exploring the opportunity to experiment. As someone who observes trends meticulously and ponders extensively (truly, sometimes for a year but more on that later) about worthwhile pieces to invest in, I pay attention to the small details. This winter's trends have not disappointed on that front. To my delight, subtlety has been embraced by aspirational designers and followed onto the high street. The whipstich is back gracing coats, as are scarf features and colour pallets are rich and classic. Next, five brands I wore before I became a fashion editor and still buy now. 

Think back to around the time of 2003. What was the only thing you could possibly think of leaving the house wearing on a Saturday night? The single most important piece in your wardrobe? The holy-grail of tops, if you will? That's right; I'm talking about the beloved going-out top. You know, the one you would throw on with a simple pair of jeans, and just like that, your outfit was complete.

Well, fast-forward to 2019, and the GOT is officially back. What constitutes a GOT, you ask? As Man Repeller recently explained, the anatomy of a going-out top can be broken down into a few simple elements: It must A) be a piece you can always count on, B) be relatively wearable, and C) offer a tinge of nostalgia (if you need a more visual example of said nostalgia, please see the new IG account our whole office is talking about: @SpaghettiStrapsoftheOC).

I hung up my party-girl hat years ago. I'm much more of a long, leisurely dinner kind of girl now when I'm craving a night out. However, with the recent resurgence of said going-out tops, I'm actually finding myself wanting to change my ways and give myself an excuse to add a few to my closet. And trust me—it takes a special piece to make me want to ditch my inclination to stay home on a Friday night. Between choosing weather-appropriate clothing for a vacation to making sure you aren’t stuffing your carry-on bag for a mere few days, packing for a quick weekend trip is a feat in itself. And, of course, you don’t want to let limited luggage space compromise your personal style.

To get the most out of a quick trip, we enlisted organization expert Melody Mesick of Simply Spaced for the best advice on what you’ll need. Follow these easy guidelines to take the stress out of packing. You’ll thank us later.

Plan out your weekend.

Create a list of everything that’s happening over the weekend. Whether you’re having a cozy night in or going to a concert, you’ll know what you need. Having a rough itinerary will create a guide for when you’re packing. Mesick says, “For me, writing it all down helps me visualize anything I may want to have access to in each setting.”

Choose versatile clothing.

This might be the most important for fashion lovers. “First, bring clothing in a cohesive color palette so that everything can be worn together. Second, bring layering pieces to build and change an outfit as the weather fluctuates. Lastly, bring pieces that can be dressed up or down,” Mesick explains.

Try on your outfits beforehand.

Mesick recommends trying on your outfits beforehand and snapping a photo before your trip. That way, you don’t have to spend time thinking about your outfits when you could be out enjoying your vacation!

Have a go-to travel cosmetics bag.

Prepare a pre-packed cosmetics bag rather than creating a fresh batch every time. Put your go-to products in travel-size bottles, then stow them somewhere handy like underneath your bathroom sink when you get home. “When you’re back from your trip, take a few extra minutes to refill your travel bottles. That way, it’s always ready to go,” she says.

Go light.

If you can opt for slimmer versions of things, Mesick advises to do exactly that. If you have bulky boots, try a sleeker take on them. Cutting down on size and weight will make your suitcase that much better. Also, be sure to wear your bulkiest items on travel days to maximize suitcase space.

Remember less is more.

Only bring the essentials. Mesick says, “Always remember that your trip is about the moments. You’ll create a refreshing, relaxing experience for everyone.”

Shopping for bikinis is right up there with finding the perfect pair of jeans—they can be a challenge, but once you find the right fit, you’re all set. But is there a shortcut to finding a swimsuit that’s flattering?

Interested to find out tips from an expert, we tapped Solid & Striped’s design director, Michelle Copelman, to weigh in on how to find the perfect swimsuit style for your body type—specifically, how to find the right style for your butt. In the end, Copelman believes “it really is about the style you feel most comfortable in. Comfort translates to confidence, and confidence ensures you will look great lounging at the pool or beach,” but she revealed that there are a few styles that tend to flatter your back end.

She explained to Who What Wear that “it is tough to pinpoint exactly one swimsuit style that is universally flattering for each individual’s bottom since each body is so unique.” However, she revealed that “cheekier bikini bottoms are usually very flattering because they have a slimming effect and show off your best assets.” But while Copelman calls out the “cheeky” style, there are, in fact, three different silhouettes she says to look for when shopping for the most flattering bikini. Anyone acquainted with Poppy's Instagram account will know just how much of a jet-set glamazon she is. WHO WHAT WEAR UK: Are you a capsule packer when it comes to your holiday wardrobe? 

POPPY DELEVINGNE: I’m quite a chaotic packer, and I never usually think too much about it. I choose my favourite things, a mixture of high street and designer, then enjoy playing dress up when I get there.

WWW UK: Do you have a favourite suitcase? 

PD: Can I have two? Mulberry and Globe-Trotter. I love to mix 'n' match. 

WWW UK: What do you think is the vital thing about finding the right swimsuit? 

PD: For me, it's all about the fit. I need a swimsuit that I can do cartwheels in!

WWW UK: How would you describe the differences between your holiday and regular wardrobes? 

PD: On holiday, I never want anything too fussy. It's all about throwing something on and feeling sensational. The eyelet hooded robe from my collection with Solid & Striped does exactly this. When I'm working and going from city to city, I opt for pieces with more structure—I so appreciate beautiful tailoring nowadays.

WWW UK: What do you take on the plane as your survival kit?

PD: As soon as I get on the plane, no matter where I'm headed, I head straight to the bathroom and give myself a little mini-facial. I'll spend 10 minutes in there adding all the lotions and potions until I'm a slippery seal, and then I'll sit down and get to my e-mails. Sisley does an amazing hydration mask, and MV Organic does a beautiful rose water mist.

WWW UK: Do you have a place in the world wear you always feel happiest? And if so, what do you wear there?

PD: The English countryside with my husband, where I tend to wear his clothes or spend my entire time in the bath. I'm all about getting cozy.

WWW UK: Are there style no-nos that you embrace on holiday?

PD: For me, the beachier the hair, the better. I welcome beach hair with open arms on holiday. Au naturel is key.
