Supermodels are smack dab in the center of the beauty industry. Think about it: they're the ones who regularly work with experts (AKA top hairstylists and makeup artists), use the latest products, and model the trendiest looks. It's no surprise then, that supermodel and SALA Co-Founder, Shanina Shaik, is so fluent in the space. All it takes is one look at her favorite skincare, hair care, and makeup products, and one thing becomes abundantly clear: she's an expert in her own right. 

Her love of beauty and wellness developed over the course of many years. It also developed more out of necessity than anything else; a busy schedule and constant traveling—demanding hallmarks of the supermodel title—took their toll. "The results of overworking affected my mental health and physical appearance," she says. "Beauty and wellness is having the connection with yourself to listen to what your body and emotional self needs."

With this experience in mind, plus a deep love for nostalgic 90s beauty looks, Shaik explored something new—launching her own brand. "When I was 22 I knew I wanted to create a beauty brand," she says."It’s been a passion of mine for so many years! I’ve created Pinterest mood boards, spoken to influential expert estheticians, and researched what works for aging skin. My aim is to create SALA as the most trusted beauty brand with clean and cruelty-free formulas sourced from Korean beauty labs...I want my customers to feel happy, confident, and alive!" 

The brand's first product, which just launched last month, is a modern mascara that pays homage to the iconic 90s lash look of supermodels like Cindy Crawford, Naomi Campbell, Christy Turlington, and more. She says it's the "perfect" mascara and one she "can't live without." It might be the brand's first and only product for now, but we can expect more where that came from...In the meantime, we're shopping for all Shaik's best beauty recommendations.

While most of us will toil away in coach seats on budget airlines, I was curious to find out what women wear when they're traveling on the best luxurious airlines in the world. My theory: When your airline ticket costs as much as two months' rent, you might be tempted to wear something a bit more polished than you normally would. To test my theory, I tapped stewardesses for their insights and also scoured Instagram to see what It girls wear.

I asked a former Singapore Airlines stewardess named Becky about the outfits she observed on the top-of-the-line airline. "Passengers are very travel-savvy nowadays, so they know how to dress comfortably while still looking stylish," Becky told me. "They don't always dress lavishly (even in first or business class), but they exude class through expensive, elegant accessories like scarves, handbags, etc."

Amy, another former Singapore Airline stewardess, agreed that designer bags are extremely common. "Singapore Airlines provides dust bags in business and first class because many passengers carry designer bags," Amy told me.

Naturally, passengers' style can vary on different types of flights. "Passengers going to fashion cities like Seoul or Paris always look Instagram-ready, even if it means being in full makeup for seven to 13 hours in flight," Becky told me. As for what passengers don't wear on the world's fanciest airlines, Becky offered her thoughts: "Generally, I think people are still sensible when dressing for travel—things like miniskirts, stilettos, or sheer tops are less common compared to staples like jeans, pullovers, and sneakers."

Emirates

Based in Dubai, Emirates routinely wins awards for being the best long-haul airline, having the best in-flight entertainment and staff, and other accolades. So what does one wear on the 15-hour flight from Los Angeles to Dubai? Well, Olivia Culpo made the journey on Emirates wearing an outfit that struck the perfect balance of comfortable, practical, and chic: She wore an Alexander Wang sweatsuit, Stella McCartney platform sneakers, and a Saint Laurent embossed bag.

Qantas

Australian model Shanina Shaik traveled back to her home country on Aussie airline Qantas, which also nabs best-in-travel awards on the regular. For her trip to Melbourne, Shaik wore a cute red-and-white sweatsuit by I Am Gia. I also own one of the brand's hoodies and can attest to the fact that it's absurdly soft and comfortable enough for a long-haul flight.

Singapore Airlines

Singapore Airlines was named the world's best airline in 2018, so you know it attracts the most discerning travelers. Camila Coelho shared a photo of herself in the airline's roomy seats wearing a fur-trimmed leather jacket, leggings, sneakers, and every Instagram girl's ultimate accessory: a logo Dior tote.

Qatar Airways

Based in Doha, Qatar Airways has made fans out of It girls like Chiara Ferragni, Hanna Stefansson, and others. The airline has a slew of awards under its belt, including best first class lounge, best business class seats, and more. For her trip from Qatar to Italy, Ferragni wore Gucci's instantly recognizable sweatpants with a white tee, and Stefansson brought along her color-block Boyy bag.

Next, I compared 21 airports and these six are the most stylish. 

The 2018 Victoria's Secret Fashion Show was massive. Returning to the Big Apple—home of the very first Victoria's Secret Fashion Show in 1995—it was an unforgettable production. 60 models from across the globe stormed the runway in intricately detailed looks, while musicians including the likes of Shawn Mendes and Rita Ora performed beside them.

There were four Australian and two New Zealand models walking the runway, Elsa Hosk wore the breathtaking Swarovski crystal-adorned Fantasy Bra and the Victoria's Secret x Mary Katrantzou capsule collection lived up to all expectations. 

The full VSFS is set to officially air on the US ABC Network at 10pm on Sunday, December 2. Unfortunately, there's been no news on where (or when) the VSFS will air on Australian television this weekend, but one way you'll be able to watch it is by setting up a VPN and streaming the show on the ABC Network Live Stream website.

When the Victoria's Secret Fashion Show rolls around every year, one of our favourite parts is seeing which Australian models made the cut. Walking in the show is a massive career milestone for any model, so just to be on that runway can open a lot of doors. In the past, Australian models like Miranda Kerr, Bridget Malcolm and Abbey Lee have all walked in the Victoria's Secret Fashion Show and have gone on to have amazing careers.

This year, Australian model Shanina Shaik took to the runway for the sixth time, with first-timers Alannah Walton, Subah Koj and Duckie Thot joining her to fly the Australian flag high. As far as New Zealanders go, Georgia Fowler and first-timer Maia Cotton also walked.

Models do a significant amount of traveling for a living. While for us, getting to work may mean a 30-minute commute, for some models, it means getting on a plane and flying several hours before arriving on location for a shoot. It should come as no surprise, then, that we often look to them (the experts) on all things travel-related—what to pack and especially what to wear for a flight. And we've noticed one brand, in particular, that several models have turned to for that comfortable (yet super-stylish) airport ensemble.

VS Angel Adriana Lima was recently spotted at the Geneva airport wearing I.Am.Gia's Striker Hoodie ($88) and Striker Pants ($72), a cozy two-piece ensemble that she styled with a pair of red ankle boots and a pink faux-fur coat. VS model Shanina Shaik wore the same set, with slight styling differences, back in October as she embarked on a 15-hour flight to Melbourne. Shaik made the journey down under to attend the Melbourne Cup, a prestigious horse race that will be held on Tuesday, November 7. The event is also preceded by a series of fun events in the city. "Every year, Australians are mesmerized and captivated by the Melbourne Cup Carnival, a week-long festival with a signature two-mile race watched by millions," Visit Melbourne explains.
