It's incredibly soft and comfortable, much like the brand's non-studded version. If you have wide feet like I do, I'd recommend sizing up, but other than that, this iconic shoe runs quite true to size.

Plus, the baby heel gives you a slight lift, which is always appreciated. I've truly never gotten as many compliments from my co-workers as I did on this pair.

Since it's one of the brand's best sellers, there are a dozen colors to choose from, but naturally, as an edgier soul, I decided to test-drive the silver pair I'd seen on the soles of other editors on my feed. I wasn't disappointed. I walked a full seven miles in these from day to night, and without any blisters straight out of the box, they took me from a morning coffee date and press previews to late-night dinner at Balthazar. If that isn't an impressive feat, I don't know what is.

Earlier this November, I felt downright giddy when I realized my Australia trip was right around the corner. A sunny reprieve in the middle of winter (okay, I live in California, but still)? Yes, please!

I was so blinded by my own sunny outlook that I chose to ignore my Australian relatives' warnings. November, they warned me, was more akin to spring, and rain was far likelier than beach days. "Totally," I agreed as I spread bikinis out on my bed.

Here's the cold, hard truth: Melbourne is chilly. Weather-wise, it's got the moody marine layer of San Francisco with a healthy dash of Seattle fog. It's a gorgeous city but a gray city nonetheless! Your girl was freezing, her dreams of returning stateside a sun-kissed goddess dashed. Ever the optimist and buoyed by a daily diet of piping-hot meat pies, I chose to look on the bright side. I was 11 hours ahead of home, putting me in the unique position of living in the future, baby! With newfound zeal, I hit the streets, credit card at ready and a keen eagle eye trained on what the cool Melbourne girls were wearing. 

A GREAT PAIR OF SUNGLASSES

Due to its geographical location, the sun in Australia is no joke. While this meant I got to stock up on some excellent sunscreen (local beauty brands are my favorite souvenirs), it also meant I never went outside without my shades on me. Even on the foggiest Melbourne day, Australians are prudent about their UV protection, meaning a cool array of sunnies is spotted all over the city.

Forgive me for that Devil Wears Prada reference. I'm only human. Floral prints reigned supreme, and I noticed a wide and gorgeous array of brightly colored sundresses on my daily strolls. The women in Melbourne looked like hothouse flowers, draped in structured, flared, and layered numbers that easily took them from day to night.

Melbourne is a walking city full of beautiful architecture and great public transportation. A pair of lug-soled booties I packed at the last minute was my daily go-to, and I blended right in among the sea of ankle boots.

Did I mention the weather wasn't great? I'd been warned Melbourne is a "four seasons daily" sort of city and that packing a light layer is de rigueur. I spotted lots of great lightweight trenches and oversize but polished denim jackets.

I recently moved into a new place and while saying goodbye to my cozy one-bedroom bungalow was bittersweet, the expanded closet space was a welcome change, a celebration even! Nothing grabs my attention like beautiful shoes or a unique handbag. Either accessory can take an outfit from boring to impressive instantly. You could be wearing the simplest of outfits, like jeans and a white T-shirt, but add a standout bag or printed boots, and suddenly, your look is statement-making. 

It's for this reason that when scrolling through Instagram or shopping online, it's always the chic shoes and fancy handbags that stop me dead in my tracks. From the knee-high animal-print boots I can't stop thinking about to the feathered handbag I've already saved three times on Instagram, below, I'm highlighting the 16 cool shoes and handbags that made me do a double-take.

Next up: three gorgeous colors to wear this fall that aren't mustard or cranberry.

As quickly as the trend cycle moves these days, there are certain pieces that have moved out of the trend category and into the staple category. From a leather jacket to Levi's classic 501 jeans, certain items have withstood the coming and going of trends and can now be officially considered timeless. The OG ankle boots that go with everything from jeans to dresses have reached icon status. Virtually every fashion girl has owned these at some point in their life (and probably still does), and they show no sign of fading. The low block heel gives you just a bit of height while still being comfortable, and the short ankle height makes them incredibly versatile.

When you think of Chelsea boots, chances are you're picturing the ACNE Studios Jensen Boots. With their signature pointed toe and slight heel, these are the ankle boots nearly everyone pulls out to pair with their skinny jeans the moment fall approaches.

Stuart Weitzman has many signature shoe styles, with more than one of them being over-the-knee boots. But the flat 5050 boots with a stretchy back have become synonymous with winter. Fashion girls break these out year after year to look chic and stay warm during the colder months, and that's not changing anytime soon.

The number one combat boot style has always been (and likely always will be) Dr. Martens. After they skyrocketed to icon status in the '90s, here we are almost 30 years later and fashion girls are as obsessed as ever. Virtually every celebrity owns a pair, and they serve up constant outfit inspiration, so these boots will always be top of mind.

When I was little, I wanted to be a tourist. In my defense, it was listed, inexplicably, as a viable career in a picture book I had about jobs, and I thought it looked like a hoot. The cartoon couple wore matching Hawaiian shirts (and tans), clutched cocktails, and had their cameras ready. Most importantly, they sported huge smiles. Even in a kid’s picture book, they looked happier than, say, the accountant or doctor. When my mom gently tried breaking the news, I shrugged it off. I had picture proof! Besides, I’d taken my first flight at eight months. If anything, I’d gotten a head start on my dream career.

Years have passed, the bubble since broken, and while I’m not a tourist (nor am I a travel blogger or photographer), I am a seasoned flyer. Airports can be a dreary place, no doubt, but getting on a plane excites me, and picking out a travel outfit downright delights me.

But even with hundreds of thousands of miles under my belt, I’m not immune to blowing my travel look. I’ve been too hot, too cold, unfathomably uncomfortable, and although I’m loathe to admit it, held up a few security lines. But you live, you learn, and you board your next flight.

MISTAKE #1

HARD-TO-REMOVE SHOES

Even the savviest, slickest prechecked traveler isn't immune to TSA snafus, especially during peak travel times.

SOLUTION: CLOSED-TOE SLIP ONS

A closed toe is key (and will keep your feet cozy) but being able to slip your footwear on and off easily will ensure a more comfortable flight.

MISTAKE #2: AN OPEN-TOP TOTE

I have a very cute woven basket that I love so much it's practically become my personality. What's not practical, however, is trying to a stuff a stiff, gaping wide bag under a seat. 

SOLUTION: ZIP- OR MAGNET-CLOSE BAG

Trust me: Not having to worry about your personal items spewing all over the floor during turbulence (or spilling when you're running between gates after a delay) will make for a smoother travel day.

MISTAKE #3: THE WRONG PANTS

I live for a good pair of jeans, but why torture yourself with button flaps and rigid legs?

SOLUTION: COMFY BUT WELL-TAILORED TROUSERS

There's a fine line between relaxed and sloppy. You want something breathable with clean lines so you don't feel restrained.

MISTAKE #4 : NON-STRATEGIC OUTERWEAR

Is there anything more miserable than freezing on a flight? Forget about in-flight entertainment; you'll be entertaining thoughts of hypothermia the whole time. 

SOLUTION: A COZY, FUNNEL-NECK SWEATER

I've found that as long as my neck is warm, I can forgo too many layers. I typically size up so I'm extra snuggly.

MISTAKE #5 : MISPLACED JEWELRY

I wear a lot of delicate jewelry, and chances are you do, too. That said, I've woken up mid-flight after a deep REM cycle with pillow creases and a dry mouth and without a few of my ear cuffs. 

SOLUTION: A TRAVEL CASE

Save yourself (and the flight crew) a round of panic attacks. Remove and store anything you'd be devastated to lose to the deep recesses of your seat.

Wearing white year-round from head to toe is here to stay and a great alternative to black. These white cowboy-style Sam Edelman booties are so versatile. I get more compliments on them than any other shoes in my closet! I like to wear them with dresses, skirts, and jeans, making them the perfect staple.

Will Wear: High-Waist Crop Jeans

Cropped jeans are always a good look as long as they are high-waisted to elongate your legs. They can be worn with all types of shoes, from heels to sneakers, sandals, and booties. I prefer ones that have stretch in them for comfort.

Will Wear: Feminine Dresses

I adore dresses that have feminine details like puffed sleeves and floral patterns. Paired with a nice bag, a dress with these details requires minimal accessories and always looks sophisticated and chic.

Will Wear: Oversize Blazers

Sporting an oversize blazer is always in style. I've been wearing the same one for over 10 years! These blazers are a nice investment piece and make any outfit look a bit more sophisticated and buttoned-up. I love to wear mine with jeans and a T-shirt à la Anine Bing.

Will Wear: Animal Prints

I love animal prints and have been wearing them for years. They are super trendy right now but have always been a staple in my wardrobe. If you like them but want to be less bold, try wearing accessories like belts, bags, and shoes that complement your existing wardrobe.

Won't Wear: Bike Shorts Paired With Blazers

I see mixing these two styles together as a passing trend. Keep the biker leggings for workouts only if you need to wear them. I am not a fan, as they cut off the thigh in a place that can make my legs look shorter.

Won't Wear: Chunky Sneakers

These "ugly," dad-style sneakers certainly made a comeback from the '90s, but I won't be wearing them anytime soon. They can look unsophisticated and do nothing to help elongate the leg. I recently purchased a pair of Nike Cortez sneakers that capture the trend and are flattering.

Won't Wear: Short Crop Tops

An alternative to these tops is to wear one that is cropped right where the waist of your pants hits. I wear these tops with high-waisted jeans and sometimes even show just a sliver of skin.

Won't Wear: Tiny Sunglasses

These sunglasses are disproportionate to any adult face and can look silly. Plus, they offer very little sun protection for the eyes. I like sticking to classic aviators, cat-eye, and oversize sunnies.

Won't Wear: Neon Clothing

This trend is a flashback to the ’90s and was super popular at the S/S 19 fashion shows, but to me, it just looks tacky. If you want to capture this trend, I suggest wearing an accessory like a neon belt or shoes—or just try an electric-colored mani for less of a commitment.
