I’ve always been a city girl. I was born in Kuala Lumpur, grew up in Houston, and upon moving to L.A., lived comfortably east of the 405 for years. But a California hazard they don’t warn you about is that you might meet a cute surfer who eventually lures you all the way west. After some cajoling, I gave in to my inner Pisces, packed up my gray Tabby, and moved us across town to the sun-dappled, salty-aired streets of Venice Beach.

It’s been six years since, and while I may not yet be a bona fide beach babe (I still prefer reading on the sand to roaring waves), it’s home. My hair is blonder, my mornings slower, and I love the neighborhood's walkability and proximity to the Pacific Ocean. Every time I catch another glorious pink sunset, it does feel a little like living in a fantasy.

If you've ever experienced L.A. traffic, you know how vast and sprawling the city is. Different zip codes mean different dress codes, and the attitude in Venice is very relaxed. Denim and comfy shoes reign supreme, and a knit is a must to combat the almost-always-present marine layer. Most of my bolder pieces have been relegated to the back of my closet, awaiting invites for martinis at Tower Bar, dancing at A Club Called Rhonda, and too much pasta at Little Dom's. So while my highlights may not be low-maintenance, my approach to daily dressing is.

JEANS + EASY COAT + WESTERN BOOT

My daily trifecta. It may be the beach, but it ain't cocktails and bikinis everyday. Venice can get downright chilly thanks to miss marine layer often overstaying her welcome. The key is layering: a tank for when the sun comes out, trusty broken-in denim, comfy-enough-to-walk-in cowboy boots (you can take the girl out of Texas), and a great statement coat to cinch the look.

SWEATER + SLIP DRESS + SLIP-ONS

Date night, happy hour, or girls' dinner, this is my go-to outfit. I love the feel of a slinky, figure-skimming slip. (I'm partial to ultra short or ankle-grazing.) Having a sweater on hand both ensures I'm cozy and adds dimension to the look. Because I finally learned how to ride a bike recently (no, I will not be taking questions at this time), a comfy closed-toe shoe guarantees I can pedal, walk, or if the night drags on, dance comfortably.

THE DIANA LOOK

Aka my "running errands" look. I could be on my way to a workout (but am probably just running to the Erehwon hot bar). It's sporty but polished, and if it was good enough for a princess, it's good enough for me!

While Emily Ratajkowski's red carpet style is killer, I'm quite partial to her off-duty outfits. She's officially mastered the high-low mix, combining practical North Face puffers and $50 tops with daring lace-up boots and designer bags. Spotted in NYC, her latest outfit is no exception.

She expertly mixed a Loewe shoulder bag with very reasonably priced sneakers: Reebok's Club C Extra Shoes ($90). In true EmRata fashion, she wore an ab-baring cropped jacket and a sultry miniskirt, but I immediately zeroed in on her perfect platform sneakers. Out of all the shoe styles I talk about here on Who What Wear, sneakers have to be my favorite. First, there's the obvious: They're comfortable. Second, they're such versatile shoes that despite each pair varying in design, you can style each in a plethora of ways. Want to wear the shoes you wore to the gym with your brunch 'fit? Go ahead. Want to wear them with jeans and a T-shirt? That works too. Sneakers have become more common on the fashion scene recently, even in more formal attire, partially because people just want to prioritize comfort.

While sneakers are the type of shoes that you pair with almost anything, we've still done the work of picking out the styles we saw heavily on the runways and on the fashion set more recently. I'll try my best to wear a pair of heels or two this upcoming season, but let's be honest—the sneakers below are probably going to get more use. 

This just might prove that sometimes vintage designs are just better. While you may think some styles being released are new, many brands like Nike and New Balance have been releasing modern renditions of their vintage sneaker designs. If something worked well, why not keep it going? 

I know what you're thinking: These will never go out of style. You're right. There's always room for a clean and classic sneak in your closet. But the simple footwear is being appreciated more than ever. There's plenty of styles, so choose your fighter because I know you'll be wearing them fairly often.

For a while, sneakers that were considered "fashion sneakers" were often ones that were designed with aesthetics in mind rather than athletics. Now, I'm seeing more fashion girls embrace athletic sneakers and incorporate them into their looks. Best of both worlds?

While there's always a spot for minimalist sneakers in your wardrobe, don't be afraid to add in a pop of color for a little fun. I love when the shoes are the only touch of color in a look or when fashion girls contrast their whole outfit with their sneaks as well. Sneakers don't always have to be basic, after all.

I've always been more of a low-top girl, but I have been warming up to the idea of high-tops just because I think they can help give off a look that flows a bit more and feels more elevated than my usual trusted ankle-grazing pairs.

You've probably noticed by now that Gigi Hadid is the face of Reebok (she has been since 2016). While you'll frequently spot the model wearing the pieces over the years, now you're going to spot the model wearing the pieces she designed. Last month, Hadid traveled to Tokyo to announce and debut the new collection that she co-designed with Reebok. While the entire Reebok x Gigi Hadid capsule collection won't be available until February 2019, the sneakers that she designed are now available for purchase, just in time for holiday gifting.

As to be expected, Hadid has been wearing the shoes all over NYC, and we're 100% here for it. The collection consists of a pair of sneaker–hiking boot hybrids (in black and white), which are a reimagining of a style from the early 1980s. The second sneakers that Hadid put her spin on are the Aztrek Runners, which have more of a chunky '90s feel to them (and also come in black and white). The sneakers come in at $130 and $110, respectively, and given the accessible price point, on-trend features, and Gigi Hadid street cred, both styles are strong contenders to be the first It sneakers of 2019.

Gigi Hadid touched down in Sydney this morning to attend an event promoting her new activewear collaboration with Reebok. This week the model has worn leggings to the airport with sneakers, but today she has styled them in the most unexpected way.

Reebok wants you to know something about its new sports bra: It's not like any other version in your top drawer. The brand describes its PureMove Bra as "a first of its kind, technologically advanced sports bra that uniquely responds and adapts to movement to provide women with a customized amount of control and support." Translation: It's going to be the best new sports bra you own.

The fabric of the bra incorporates Reebok's new Motion Sense Technology, which smartly adapts to your body and movement. The result "gives wearers a bra that stretches less with high-impact movements while providing the comfort and light support that one would desire during rest and lower-intensity activities," per a press release.

Reebok senior innovation apparel designer Danielle Witek also explained that more support does not have to equal more fabric. In fact, it's the opposite: The bra's minimalist design is one of its strengths, offering support without added bulk. Intrigued? The PureMove Bra officially launches on August 17 for $60 on Reebok's website, but we have an early look at the design before it launches, courtesy of Gigi Hadid, Gal Gadot, Nathalie Emmanuel, and others.

Updated July 26: Last week, we gave you a sneak peek at Victoria Beckham's new Reebok collection, and today it's finally shoppable. In honor of the new launch, Beckham explained her five T-shirt styling tips in a press release, and as you can imagine, we're eager to take pointers from the pro.

1. "Make it work-appropriate with sleek, wide leg trousers. Wear the tee tucked in and complete the look with some Classic trainers."

2. "Play around with little styling tricks, like giving the sleeves a roll, or trying a full or half-tuck."

Originally published on July 20: We first heard the exciting news back in November 2017: Victoria Beckham was teaming up with Reebok. Today, her first collection for the brand is available for pre-order, and will officially drop on July 26. Consisting of T-shirts, hoodies, and socks, the merch is inspired by the '90s—which brings us to one particular basketball icon.

"When I think of Reebok, I think of the '90s and basketball—and therefore, of course, I think of Shaq!" Beckham said in a statement. "For me, this capsule really represents a celebration of that era, Reebok and Shaq's shared history in basketball, and the great heritage pieces I discovered in those archives. The unisex approach and the nods to streetwear that are present in this capsule are important elements that I will take through to the full collection I am currently working on." Calling all Ariana Grande fans: The world premiere of her music video for "The Light Is Coming" is now up only on Reebok.com. This new music video, featuring none other than Nicki Minaj, will be up exclusively on the website for the next 24 hours. "In an era where brand/celebrity relationships are commonplace, and their authenticity is increasingly questioned, Reebok and Ariana Grande are breaking from the norm and doubling down on their powerful partnership by introducing fans around the world to her next music video exclusively on Reebok.com," the brand told us. 

The fact that Ariana looked as fierce and perfect as ever in this new music video is not surprising, but the fact that the sneakers she wore were only $80 definitely was. Reebok is known for designing high-quality cult-classic sneakers, and putting Ariana in the Reebok Rapide shoes proves that these timeless styles will always be cool.

Reebok announced its partnership with Victoria Beckham late last year, and since then, we’ve all awaited details on what to expect in the iconic collaboration. In an intimate dinner last April in Los Angeles, the Reebok team and longtime ’90s icon and supporter of the brand Shaquille O’Neal officially welcomed Beckham into the Reebok family. During a brief Q&A before we sat for dinner, Beckham shared what she’s most looking forward to designing with the Reebok team. “I’ve wanted to create workout clothing for a long, long time. I work out every day, and when I go into a new category, I want it to be something that I want in my life. So when Reebok approached me, I was very excited. I’ve wanted to create a trainer for quite some time,” she said.

In celebration of the partnership, Reebok x Victoria Beckham released a mini collection of merch that was available for an exclusive amount of time, which included an extremely comfortable pair of white sneakers (or trainers, as VB calls them) and a limited-edition T-shirt that was available in black and white. Through these teaser pieces, Beckham really wanted to celebrate all things ’90s with a nod to Shaq and his legendary basketball career. Beckham and Shaq are wearing the tee in the photos below, which is available on Reebok’s and Victoria Beckham’s sites.

While this was only a sneak peek for Victoria’s full line with Reebok which launched today, the former Posh Spice hinted at a focus on “technical workout clothing with a great silhouette and great branding and not overly complicated.” As for the trend that you won’t see in the line? Given her knack for setting legging trends ever since legging trends became a thing, we always look to Hadid for clues as to what the next ones will be, and it appears that red leggings may be on deck.

Another indicator that red leggings could be a major trend, aside from the fact that red is the It color of fall and winter, is that Alo endorsed it as one of its major themes this season. Red Velvet was a hue that the ultra-popular brand introduced in tons of its styles. Given all of this, don't be surprised if the trend takes off in 2018.

It’s not so atypical to find yourself sitting around the hearth, sipping hot chocolate, and chatting with friends around the holidays. But it’s less common to find yourself in the company of Gigi Hadid at the same time. That’s exactly the situation we were in yesterday, surrounded by the model and some of the most valuable members of her squad, specifically, her trainer, Rob Piela, her hairstylist, Bryce Scarlett, her makeup artist, Erin Parsons, her stylist, Mimi Cuttrell, and her Reebok family—a mainstay in Hadid’s life since she became a brand ambassador over a year ago.

The rare meeting had Hadid and her own VIPs reminiscing about the year before, but it was Cuttrell who gave us good intel on what kind of trends she’s loving for 2018. Hadid gave an emphatic “Yes!” when asked if she was into color clothing for 2018, but her stylist expanded on that: “I’m into kind of ugly colors. Moss, I really like right now, mustard… It’s like off-neutral.”

When we chatted with Cuttrell one-on-one, she told us more about her unexpected color inspiration. “Even when I’m cooking, I’ll find different colors—like nutmeg, I love that color. And turmeric is such a pretty color. When it was hotter out, the bright colors were kind of great for that,” said the stylist behind Hadid’s bold use of pinks and yellows this year. “But I’m into the deeper tones for sure.”

As far as other trends we can expect to see from Hadid, it’s still a bit up in the air. Cuttrell noted that she and Hadid have been able to work together so well because they both like to take chances and be a little unpredictable.

“It’s easy to find a dress that she can feel comfortable and look sexy in,” Cuttrell said of her client, adding, “and I feel like it’s less about showing skin and more about being sexy by what you’re wearing. I always look at people, and if you’re dressed well, you look smart, it looks sexy. That’s why my version of sexy is. Maybe a lot of people don’t like that about my styling, but for [Gigi], it’s really organic. She knows what I like, and I know what she likes, and we push each other to make some memorable looks."

We talk a lot about sneakers and there are many new styles to get distracted by, but sometimes the oldies are the goodies: with that in mind, let's talk about Reebook Classics. Thanks to that ongoing interest in trainers, loyalist tribes have been clearly emerging over the past few years, and we find that rather than style, the groups often assemble by brand. Some are hard-core Nike fans, others love Adidas, and then there are the ones who have revisited Reebok.

Who's ready for 2017 to be over? From a fashion perspective, we have something major to look forward to next year: Victoria Beckham's upcoming collaboration with Reebok, which will be launching in late 2018.

"I have always championed instilling confidence in women and Reebok is a brand that has been at the forefront of this same message for decades. To have the opportunity to challenge the traditional notions of fitness wear within a fashion context is something I have always wanted to do. Of course, the feeling is mutual for the Reebok team. "As a brand, we look to partner with not just influential women, but women who want to truly change the world,” Reebok's senior vice president of women's initiatives, Corinna Werkle, said in a statement. "There's no better embodiment of this than Victoria."

Sometimes there's a trend that's just so bad that it's good. For me this season, it's the "ugly" sneakers you've spotted on many a street style star over the last few months. I have a feeling anyone but my dad (who really does wear shoes that look like this) would offer nothing more than a puzzled look when pressed about the rise tech sneakers, but there's something so charming about them I can't resist.

In part, the shoes give me flashes of nostalgia for the chunky Sketchers I wore as a typical '90s child. Over the past few seasons, we've seen fashion move away from the pervasive minimalism of the earlier aughts, skewing into two distinct directions: a romantic ultra-feminism, and a playful, referential vein that seems to be constantly poking fun at itself and the fashion industry as a whole (the Vetements effect, if we'd so desire to give it a name). These sneakers toe the thin line—while there will be those who can't stand the trend, that quirkiness will draw others in. So are you ready to take the plunge? Leather Reebok Classics trainers have been making a comeback this year, a fact that was confirmed when Sienna Miller wore a pair of the white sporty retro trainers last night. Her stage-door style during her run in Cat on a Hot Tin Roof has been well-documented, and her latest outfit is one we want to copy this weekend. There aren’t many times I’ve considered wearing my activewear out for a lunch with friends or a night out, but that’s because I’m not Gigi Hadid. While out in New York City today, Hadid was snapped looking like she was about to step onto a red carpet (well, slight exaggeration, but almost). Her head-to-toe Reebok look was perfectly styled, looking more photoshoot-ready than workout.

Hadid’s outfit looked more dressed up than it should’ve, for a few reasons. Her windcheater was slightly slouched over one shoulder (her favourite way to wear a jacket these days), she layered two crop tops (again, more #fashion), and wore a pair of shiny black detailed leggings, that could almost pass as proper pants. With that, she wore her hair styled in a braid/pony combo, and a pink lip. All the layering and styling tricks help elevate what would normally be a super casual outfit. I’m going to give it a whirl this weekend.

When we learned that Gigi Hadid is the new face of Reebok's #PerfectNever campaign, we were quite intrigued, as Reebok has been flying under the radar since the athleisure boom hit. But it now appears that it's cemented its arrival on the It sneaker scene with its latest news. Footwear News recently reported that the brand has a new creative director with serious high-fashion credentials. At the helm of the classic athletic brand is Thomas Steinbrück, who started his career at Christian Dior and later worked with Geoffrey Beene and Alber Elbaz, Kenneth Cole, and Elie Saab.

Steinbrück cites the female market as one of the areas of personal interest to him, which is good news for the athleisure-loving gals. He said in a statement to WWD, "The convergence of the fashion and athletic performance worlds is exciting for an individual like myself, a sports and fitness devotee from a fashion background. I am confident that my experience will bring something truly unique to Reebok."

"When I was a competitive athlete, I used to be so focused on being perfect that my coaches would take me out of competing all together," Hadid said in a statement. "I'd focus on my mistakes which would breed more missteps—a domino effect. Until I learned to change the channel, to re-focus, re-set. It was my mistakes, my imperfections that motivated me most."
