So when an invitation arrived to celebrate the opening of Ralph Lauren's new store at Pebble Beach Resorts, we jumped at the chance. The Ralph Lauren store is Pebble Beach Resorts' first and only retail concept. Stepping inside feels like entering a world steeped in heritage, with aged-brass accents, rich stained-oak millwork, and so many finds that embody the brand's signature Americana aesthetic. I found a timeless red trench that felt imperative to take home and styled it with a camel cable-knit sweater draped over the shoulders. Stocked with everything you'd want to wear at Pebble Beach Resorts, the Ralph Lauren store feels like a seamless extension of the destination itself.

Pebble Beach is home to one of the most iconic golf courses in the world, so naturally, the outfit had to rise to the occasion. The Polo Bear Golf Glove added just the right amount of personality and quickly became my favorite piece of the outfit.

Lunch at the dock at The Beach & Tennis Club called for a look that could adapt to the Monterey Peninsula's famously unpredictable weather. What began as an overcast morning quickly gave way to sunny skies, making layers the order of the day. A sleeveless sundress paired with a classic baseball cap struck a balance between classic style and practicality.

A tennis lesson provided the perfect opportunity to put RLX to the test. Designed with performance in mind, the collection blends technical fabrics with the brand's signature polished aesthetic. Kye, the tennis pro, assured me that, with enough practice, my game might one day live up to the standard set by my outfit.

While my backhand may still be a work in progress, the effort alone felt worthy of a well-earned cocktail. I leaned into Ralph Lauren's Southwestern-inspired aesthetic with a styling twist. Using one of the silver conchos from a belt, I fashioned a bolo tie–style necklace secured with a floral scarf.

Drinks were served overlooking the iconic 18th hole, where a giant RL logo had been cut into the grass beside the fairway. A pair of bagpipers played in the distance, a beloved Pebble Beach tradition. It felt like a fitting way to end the weekend, equal parts Ralph Lauren and Pebble Beach.

It's sad, I know, but as much as we'd like the 2026 Winter Olympics to go on forever, filling every gap in our days with adrenaline, this year's Games are unfortunately coming to a close. By February 22, everyone will be clearing out of Northern Italy, heading back to their respective countries, hopefully with a medal or two in hand. But before the festivities officially end, I thought it would be fun to do a little recap, not of the actual sporting events but of the fashion moments that happened alongside them. After all, as much as I love watching curling, figure skating, hockey, and skiing, I also appreciate a good outfit, and there were plenty of those to go around in Milan and Cortina these last two weeks—starting on day one during the Opening Ceremony.

Vittoria Ceretti's Opening Ceremony Tribute to Giorgio Armani

As part of a stunning tribute to the late Italian designer Giorgio Armani, who sadly passed away at the age of 91 in September 2025, Italian supermodel Vittoria Ceretti carried her country's flag during the Opening Ceremony of the Milano Cortina 2026 Winter Olympics at San Siro Stadium. For the occasion, she wore a custom Armani Privé gown in all white, with long sleeves and a high neck.

Deanna Stellato-Dudek's Oscar de la Renta Short Program Costume

There's been a significant amount of buzz surrounding Canadian figure skater Deanna Stellato-Dudek and her costumes, which were custom-designed by none other than the house of Oscar de la Renta. Specifically, Stellato-Dudek had two costumes made by the brand, one red and one gold. According to Skate Canada, this collaboration was made possible by Amanda Desmarais, a Skate Canada board member and frequent Oscar de la Renta shopper. She reached out to the brand for Stellato-Dudek, and after a long wait, they agreed to partner with the skater for the 2025/2026 season, including the 2026 Winter Games.

Her short program dress is hand-beaded with cap sleeves and a mock neckline. It features a gold pattern that almost looks like scales that shimmer when she's on the ice. For her free skate costume, the brand designed a bright-red, one-shoulder frock that was meant to mimic Stellato-Dudek's "fearless approach to skating," according to Skate Canada.

Madison Chock's Updated Matador Costume

Madison Chock isn't just a figure skater with multiple Olympic medals and a record number of national titles under her belt. She's also a costume designer, both for herself and her husband slash skating partner, Evan Bates, as well as others, including Team Georgia, Team Spain, and Team Australia. For the 2026 Winter Games, she made subtle but profound tweaks to both their free dance and rhythm dance ensembles, with the free dance update, in particular, garnering much acclaim. The skirt, which she added red accents to, was especially noteworthy. "We feel the addition of red really suits the story and characters we have created, and more warmth and fiery passion are reflected in our characters and choreography as the beast and the matador," she told Who What Wear ahead of the Games.

Early on in the Games, part-time Italian residents George and Amal Clooney (the couple owns and often lives in Villa Oleandra, located in Lake Como) attended the Omega House opening night, with the latter donning a stunning black, strapless gown by Balmain, from the French brand's F/W 02 Haute Couture collection. With the ruffled dress, she donned black pumps and a matching clutch, keeping things elegant and sophisticated, just like her surroundings in Milan.

Ilia Malinin's Short Program Costume by Ito Satomi

Fans of retired Japanese skater Yuzuru Hanyu's costumes will be happy to find out that the designer behind them, Ito Satomi, returned to the rink for the 2026 Winter Games, this time designing costumes for the "quad god," otherwise known as American figure skater Ilia Malinin. People especially loved Malinin's short program costume, The Lost Crown, with its fantastical aesthetic and deep connection to his routine. The other costume, A Voice, was just as detailed and intentional.

Ahead of the Opening Ceremony, Team USA's official outfitter, Ralph Lauren, hosted an event at Palazzo Ralph Lauren in Milan, inviting friends of the brand to celebrate the momentous occasion before them. Two such guests were Devon Lee Carlson and Sydney Carlson, who attended the evening's festivities wearing matching black looks, Devon Lee donning a satin car coat, jeans, and black pumps, and her sister choosing an embroidered jacket, black trousers, and leather boots. Both carried Ralph Lauren handbags.

I vividly remember the first time I came across Jeanne Damas during the earlier days of Instagram. I even recall trying to find her exact lip combo back when she would blend two lipsticks together and apply them with her fingers for that soft, blurred finish. She quickly became one of the most popular modern-day references for French style.

Since then, she's remained known for her effortless aesthetic and is now a designer as well, having launched her brand Rouje in 2016. For this February's New York Fashion Week, Damas shares her diary, including the Ralph Lauren show, a Rouje event, and the Tory Burch show.

What are some of your favorite New York tips?

I always stay at the same hotel. I love building habits when I travel. It makes me feel at home instantly. I love staying in neighborhoods filled with young, creative energy. It's incredibly inspiring. In Paris, we don't always experience that same avant-garde spirit in such an intense way. It gives me so much inspiration for Rouje. I love that mix of youth, diversity, and creativity. It actually reminds me a bit of Belleville. As a mom, one of my best tips for flying to NYC is to take melatonin on the plane and try to sleep properly. It really helps fight jet lag and arrive feeling fresh and ready.

Favorite moment of the trip?

My getaway to The Met between two fashion week appointments to discover the exhibition Seeing Silence by the Finnish painter Helene Schjerfbeck. A moment of calm to discover this artist. The Met is a bit of a must-stop whenever I come to NYC; there's always something to see.

The best thing you ate or drank?

The best BLT is definitely in New York. I love having it as a second breakfast at Dimes, sometimes even grabbing one to take away before heading back to Paris. And Le Dive for a pastis. It has one of the only terraces in the summer, which makes it feel like a little Parisian escape.

Favorite shops, restaurants, and places to go?

For years, my first stop in NYC was Maryam Nassir Zadeh. Now, I feel like I need to discover a new ritual address. Of course, I love vintage shopping: Ellen Vintage, Desert Vintage, and Duo are always on my list. Bar Oliver is perfect for drinks. Le Chêne is a beautiful new French restaurant I tried this week—modern cuisine, very "fooding," and absolutely incredible. The MoMA is always a good idea, and I also love visiting galleries like Grimm, PPOW, or 1969 Gallery.

A trend you're already seeing everywhere?

I arrived wearing my Blundstones without realizing that basically everyone in New York already had them, but honestly, when it's -20°C, you understand why.

What was your approach to packing? I'd love to hear about the essentials that you made sure to bring!

I always travel with my father's baptism medal. It's my little ritual so the plane doesn't crash. My perfect sleep kit is essential: melatonin, earplugs, my own pillow, and a silk eye mask. I'm a bit of a princess and the pea when it comes to sleep. I need my routine, no matter what. I brought a hair diffuser (because of the American plugs), my toiletry bag, and simple makeup—a face palette and tinted balms. A big bag is key so I can walk around all day with all my essentials. To survive the New York cold, [I have] Damart thermal layers, a Rouje neck warmer, good boots, and shearling pieces. It was also the first time I packed workout clothes to go to the gym. I actually recommend exercising in the morning when you're jet-lagged. It helps reset your body.

You also launched an exclusive preview of your new collection while you were in town at Rouje's SoHo store. How would you describe the new pieces?

The new collection is inspired by Ilona and Carole—strong, inspiring women with that effortless, timeless femininity. It's about confidence, subtle sensuality, and pieces that feel both iconic and easy to wear.

This year is Rouje's 10th anniversary. Are there any things you can share that you have on your bucket list for the next 10 years of Rouje?

Opening a Rouje café, something like a madeleine de Proust, a coffee shop that feels nostalgic and deeply connected to Rouje's universe. Organizing our first big show but maybe in a more artistic way, very Rouje. Perhaps something involving actresses. Opening more boutiques in Europe or maybe a permanent space in Asia. Continuing and deepening our support of Maison des Femmes de Saint-Denis and developing the lifestyle side of Rouje: exploring my passion for interiors, creating special pieces—maybe even things for my daughter—and continuing collaborations with French and European artisans.

Is there anything else you'd like to include?

New York always reminds me why I love creation so much. The energy is intense, bold, fearless. It pushes me to dream bigger.

Ralph Lauren showed a rare menswear runway show in Milan this January, and it lit the internet ablaze. It was the first time men’s returned to the runway since 2002, and the looks, which blended the youthful playfulness of Polo and the tailored sophistication of Purple Label, were frankly impeccable. The show was yet another reminder of how the brand has shaped the Americana fashion aesthetic for nearly 60 years but also spoke to the impact Ralph Lauren is having on style right now.

Nearly a month later, the brand presented its fall/winter 2026 womenswear collection at New York Fashion Week, and like the men’s show, it tapped into the effortless elegance and timeless style that Ralph Lauren has mastered. As guests walked into the Jack Shainman Gallery in Tribeca, the Gilded Age palazzo transformed into one of Ralph Lauren’s distinct worlds—this one, a magnificent country estate outfitted with mismatched antique chairs and benches, floors layered with rugs, and hand-painted murals of bucolic landscapes hung on the walls. It set the backdrop for a rustic yet polished collection featuring looks that juxtaposed countryside tweeds and riding boots with rich jacquard florals and velvet evening gowns.

Mr. Lauren was inspired by a “renegade spirit and the confidence of the woman who will wear it in her own personal way, to tell her own story,” he explained in the show notes, adding that the woman he designs for “respects the timeless quality of things from the past but reinvents them for now. Romantic Florals

At this moment in fashion, we're seeing a shift back to romance, whether it's a turn away from quiet luxury or the impact of the Wuthering Heights press tour looks. This turn to romance is also translating to the runways, including Ralph Lauren's return to beautiful florals. Executed in blazers, embroidered knits, and printed trousers, each piece has a patina and antique quality that further enhances the romance of the florals.

Printed Scarves

Ralph Lauren brought a subtle bourgeois sensibility to the collection with printed silk scarves tied at the neck. Tucked underneath the lapel of a leather jacket, a blazer, or a tapestry jacket, the scarves add nuance and depth to the looks. The pieces arrive on the runway at a moment when printed scarves are on the rise, further proving that the trend is here to stay.

A Touch of Leopard

The collection presented a rich tapestry of prints and textures, and the rugged countryside aesthetic naturally incorporated tweeds and wools. Leopard was an unexpected print within the milieu, yet it worked seamlessly with the earthy tones on the runway.

Long, dangling earrings were the outfit-finishing jewelry item that dominated the show. They were styled with casual turtlenecks and velvet evening gowns alike, which made one thing clear: They're a key accessory to invest in, regardless of the occasion.

Rich hues of silver and gold took center stage on the runway, with sculptural jackets, floor-sweeping skirts, and intricately beaded pieces that were crafted by artisans. Paired with knits and more casual textures, the metallic pieces help to strike a balance of casual and polished that Ralph Lauren is so adept at.

Elegant Eveningwear

Ralph Lauren excels at timeless eveningwear, and the brand presented a finale featuring beautiful velvet gowns with strapless silhouettes and plunging necklines that are primed to hit the red carpet. They'll also serve as fresh inspiration for events with a formal dress code.

Madison Chock and her husband slash skating partner, Evan Bates, began pair skating in 2011, kick-starting one of the most dominant partnerships in all of figure skating. (They are the most decorated ice dance team in the history of the U.S. Figure Skating Championships, as of last month, after all.) The way they dance together gives the impression that they are not two separate skaters but one entity. "Madi and Evan skate in a different world," one announcer said during their free dance performance at the 2026 U.S. Figure Skating Championships. "It's like putting the relationship of people who have been on three dates up against a married couple who've been together for 50 years. They don't even reach for each other—they feel one another." The fluidity with which the duo skates gives them an edge on the competition, winning them three consecutive world titles and an Olympic team gold in Beijing back in 2022. Now, at the 2026 Winter Olympics—their fourth Games together and their first as husband and wife (they got married in 2024)—Bates and Chock were understandably at the very top of our must-watch lists. As of Wednesday, they had not only defended their team gold but also earned their own ice dance silver medals.

In figure skating, it's all about visuals, and Chock and Bates know how to put on an aesthetically stimulating performance. The pair is meticulous, ensuring that every detail of their programs is flawless, right down to the costumes, which Chock designs herself. She's been slowly honing her design skills since she was a kid growing up in Redondo Beach, California, with her mom passing her own interest in fashion on to her daughter. "She loved dressing me up, and I loved dressing up," Chock said of her mom, Barbara, ahead of the Games. Not much has changed since. Like the film actresses whose on-screen style they watched and admired, from Audrey Hepburn to Grace Kelly, Chock pays special attention to the way her and Bates's costumes play into the stories they bring to life on ice. Before the music sounds and their dance begins, Chock's designs give the audience a glimpse into the narrative that's about to unfold.

Three years ago, in 2023, Chock expanded her costume-design practice by launching her namesake label and beginning work with other figure skaters. For the 2026 Winter Olympics, she designed costumes for three other teams, according to ESPN. She also made tweaks to her and Bates's own looks for the Games, keeping them similar to ones they've debuted before but making slight tweaks here and there to update them and make them appear even more intertwined with the stories they told on the ice in Milan.

Off the rink, Chock is just as engrossed in the fashion world as she is on it. As longtime members of Team USA, Chock and Bates have close ties to Ralph Lauren, the American heritage brand that's been the Olympic squad's official outfitter since 2008. The couple is frequently spotted at events hosted by the brand, including the U.S. Open, and acts as talent in and at many of its Olympic-related campaigns and activations. For Chock, working with the brand has been a lifelong dream come true. "I have admired Ralph Lauren since I was a little girl," she told Who What Wear upon arriving in Milan for the Games. She also recently starred in the Skims Team USA campaign alongside Nordic skier Dani Aravich and bobsledder Kaysha Love, and has worked with Dior Beauty. After her and Bates's performances on the ice at this year's Games, there will no doubt be plenty more opportunities where those came from for the skater and designer to delve deeper into the world of fashion.

Ahead, read our conversation with Chock, in which she discusses in detail her costumes for the Olympics, her design process, and her favorite creations to date.

When did you discover your love of costume design?

I’ve always had a strong sense of personal style since I can remember. It stemmed from a shared love of fashion with my mom. She loved dressing me up, and I loved dressing up. I grew up watching old classic movies with her, and we would always admire the styles of Audrey Hepburn, Katharine Hepburn, and Grace Kelly. They had an effortlessly chic style that still resonates with people today.

Where do you look for inspiration when it comes to creating costumes for your events?

Inspiration for our skating costumes can strike anywhere and anytime. When I’m in the brainstorming process for costumes, it can change rapidly as our choreography and/or story progresses. I love following along as the fashion houses release their seasonal lines, but I tend to avoid anything trendy. I love adding details rooted in authenticity, especially if our program has a specific style of dance.

Can you walk me through your process? What comes first (music, choreography, costumes, theme, etc.), and how does a program come together for you and your husband and skating partner, Evan?

Usually, the music comes first, but on a couple of rare occasions, the story comes first, and the music comes after. It’s definitely easier to start with the music, though. Evan and I love the creative process and usually start by listening to a ton of music. As soon as we pick music, I’ll begin my first draft of costume ideas, but I won’t finalize my choices until the choreography and storyline are clearly developed. We absolutely love the creative process and cherish the time we put our heads together to create a piece.

Can you share anything about your costumes for the 2026 Winter Olympics?

We are very excited to debut some new costumes for the Olympics! We love the costumes we’ve been wearing throughout the season but wanted to add a fresh twist for Milan. We’ve made a new set of rhythm dance costumes with similar silhouettes, but with a different color scheme, and [we've added] snake print to my dress. For the free dance, we decided to add a pop of color by using red on my skirt. We feel the addition of red really suits the story and characters we have created, and more warmth and fiery passion are reflected in our characters and choreography as the beast and the matador.

What have been some of your favorite costumes you've designed so far, and what made them so special?

Every costume I have designed for us has held a special place in my heart. It becomes an opportunity to reinvent and evolve our style every year, sometimes even multiple times a year. Some of my favorite pieces I’ve designed include the "alien and the astronaut" free dance and our "fire and air" free dance. I love capturing the essence of our programs in our costumes so the audience can clue into the story before they even hear our music. I think costumes play a huge role in the sensory experience of watching a figure skating event; they have the power to draw you into the story before you tell it.

Off the ice, you also work with fashion brands, like Ralph Lauren. Tell me about that partnership and how it came to be.

Working with Ralph Lauren has been a dream come true. I have admired Ralph Lauren since I was a little girl. The quality and attention to detail in each garment really stand apart and hold their own against the test of time. I love how Ralph breaks the traditional rules and encourages you to be your authentic self, using fashion as a tool to express yourself. What stands out to me most is the longevity of the pieces, not only in style but in quality. Every time I collect a new RL piece, I know I am building a heritage collection to be cherished and passed down as high-quality fashion is meant to be.

Whenever I look to archival '90s runway photos for inspiration, Calvin Klein and Ralph Lauren always stand out. Even back then, both set the standard for fashion that went beyond trends.

When I think of Calvin Klein, it's impossible not to picture Carolyn Bessette Kennedy's iconic style and Kate Moss walking in its shows. The brand is so beloved that editors were thrilled when it finally returned to the runway with its fall/winter 2025 collection last February. It's the epitome of enduring, minimalist dressing with pieces you'll never get tired of: the Pauline Knee-High Boots, Roxanna Pointed-Toe Kitten Heel Pumps, Luna Satin Skirt, and Liza High Collar Coat.

On the other hand, Ralph Lauren makes me think of classic, preppy aesthetics: button-downs, knee-length skirts, impeccable outerwear, and, of course, the Polo shirt. Sartorially speaking, 2026 is about keeping a low profile. At least, when it comes to your sneakers. Sleek white sneakers anchored several of Celine and Polo Ralph Lauren’s S/S 26 runway looks, a far cry from the chunky Y2K styles we’ve seen the last few seasons. In my opinion, visiting the Upper East Side's Ralph Lauren Flagship should be on everyone's New York bucket list. There's nothing quite like entering the restored 19th-century four-story mansion on Madison Avenue and meandering each luxuriously curated floor; you could genuinely make an entire afternoon out of it, complete with a coffee and pastry from Ralph's next door. I've been there quite a bit over the past few months (a great spot for wedding gifts!), and trust me when I say that I've never seen it so packed. After scrolling through TikTok recently, I finally understand why: People are going feral for the "Ralph Lauren Christmas" aesthetic.

What is a "Ralph Lauren Christmas," you ask? It's rich color stories (think forest green, navy, and burgundy), warm, cozy lighting (ideally pouring from a blazing fireplace), and tons of tartan (well, duh). Take it from someone who shops for a living: When it comes to shopping during the holidays, there is no better place than uptown New York. Yes, I've shopped in both Paris and London this time of year, and no, neither came close to strolling from Bergdorf Goodman to Louis Vuitton, stopping for lunch at a Madison Avenue café or bistro, and then heading north to Toteme, The Row, and Manolo Blahnik. Oh, and you have to pop into Zitomer, the best old-fashioned pharmacy north of 10th Street. (If you're downtown, C.O. Bigelow is a must, but that's a shopping destination for another day.)

What makes shopping uptown so elite this time of year is the festiveness of it all. Every elegant uptown hotel, from the Plaza to the Carlyle, is decorated for the holidays. The windows at Bergdorf's have been transformed, transporting passersby into an extravagant fantasy. One store or another is always handing out gourmet hot chocolate, and if they aren't, you can probably receive a complimentary glass of champagne inside if you do a little bit of shopping.

Unlike walking up Broadway in SoHo, the streets and stores on Madison and Fifth are never jam-packed, even on the busiest of holiday shopping days. Plus, you can always find a reprieve in Central Park or Bemelmans Bar. As cheesy as it sounds, shopping uptown toward the tail end of the year is pretty magical and something that no visitor or local should miss out on. To ensure that you hit all the best stops, I created the must-visit store guide below. Now, you have no excuse but to head uptown between now and January 1.

Nothing compares to walking into Bergdorf Goodman during the holidays and being met by organized and somehow chic chaos. Even though the store's tight corridors are filled from open to close with guests trying to find the perfect gift or holiday outfit, the energy is never overwhelming inside. Rather, I find myself wanting to stay for hours, perusing the end-of-season shoe sales, popping into designated boutiques, and watching other people shop to see what they're drawn to from the luxurious selection. Sometimes, if I feel like treating myself, I'll stop into BG for a light bite and a coffee or tea with a view of Central Park. Café Ginori also just opened in the iconic department store downstairs on the beauty level, and the tableware alone is worth checking out.

If you're in New York this holiday season, you'd be remiss not to stop into the city's most talked-about store: Louis Vuitton. Which one? Well, I'd argue both. If you're in the area, you'll likely spot dozens of people taking photos outside of the French house's viral trunk-wrapped flagship, which is currently undergoing a multiyear renovation and has an eye-catching exterior. Once you've seen it for yourself (photos really don't do it justice), you're free to pop across the street to the just-opened temporary store on Fifth Avenue and 57th Street. Trust me. After perusing as many square inches of the place as I could gain access to on the morning of its big unveiling—including its two dining options in Le Café Louis Vuitton and Le Chocolat Maxime Frédéric, both of which are opening stateside for the first time—I can tell you with certainty that it hardly has temporary energy. Then again, the largest fashion house there was never going to open just any store, even if it will likely only live on 57th Street for a few years. Did I mention that there's a very exclusive New York City–inspired collection that you can only buy there? Run.

Toteme's SoHo store might be bigger, but if you're not the type to wait in a line outside on a Saturday afternoon, I highly recommend heading to its uptown location instead. Located on Madison Avenue and 69th Street, the quaint boutique is nothing if not extremely chic. When you walk in, you're met with only a few sparse racks of beautiful clothing, a wall of It handbags, and a spiral staircase that you'll almost certainly want to take a photo of.

If you like shoes, stepping foot into the Manolo Blahnik flagship store on Madison Avenue for the first time will be a transcendent experience. Everywhere you look is a gorgeously constructed pair of pumps, boots, or flats, from the Maysale to the Hangisi, all of which are available in a kaleidoscope of colors. The space was designed by interior decorator David Thomas and inspired by the glamour of the Hollywood Regency. Think grand columns and black-and-white marble flooring.

Beauty lovers, meet your new favorite uptown destination. If you've never been to Zitomer on Madison Avenue and 76th Street, you're in for a treat. The pharmacy does a lot more than just fill prescriptions. It also houses rows of luxury skincare and makeup products from brands like 111Skin, Augustinus Bader, and Natura Bissé as well as French hair tools like the viral Mason Pearson brushes. It's dangerous to say the least, but also, it's a perfect place to get lost in while you warm up after window-shopping in the cold.

Whether you're in Paris or New York, visiting The Row is equivalent to stepping into a gallery or quaint art museum. Inside, you'll be immersed in quality, from the furniture to the art on the walls to, of course, the clothes, shoes, and handbags that are available on the sales floor. Bask in sumptuous cashmere, beautifully tailored outerwear and suiting, and plenty of Margaux bags (if you're lucky). If you're anything like me, you won't want to ever leave.

There are not one but two must-visit Ralph Lauren stores on Madison Avenue, one on the east side of the street and one on the west. On the east side is the Rhinelander mansion, otherwise known as Ralph Lauren's menswear flagship. Completed in 1898, the neo-Renaissance compound was originally built as a home for heiress Gertrude Rhinelander Waldo but remained mostly empty until Lauren purchased the space to make it into his retail store in 1986. According to the brand's website, the designer made a speech on the day the store opened: “New York can be a harsh place, and I want people to come in here and feel your warmth and feel like you really are inviting them into your home." Almost 40 years later, it still feels that way, especially during the holidays.

On the west side of Madison Avenue is the womenswear flagship store, a 22,000-square-foot building that Lauren had built in the beaux arts style, according to Architectural Digest. One could say that the Ralph Lauren show had it all: a picturesque horse stables location in the Hamptons, a bevy of celebrity attendees, First Lady Jill Biden, supermodels (as in Naomi Campbell and Christy Turlington) and cute little kids on the runway, a full-on replica of Manhattan's famed The Polo Bar restaurant, and a S/S 25 collection packed with trends (and anti-trends, which we'll get to later).

For context, Ralph Lauren kicked off S/S 25 NYFW by transporting (literally) the fashion crowd to Bridgehampton to embrace all things Americana with its new collection. In keeping with Ralph Lauren's signature aesthetic, the collection was very much preppy with a strong boho twist this time. For a lover of big cities, bustling crowds, and new experiences, New York City is nothing short of a dream. In the month I've been in the city, this PNW girl has done more than she could have ever imagined doing in a year. When I first moved here, one of the best pieces of advice I received from a co-worker was to "just say yes" when offered an opportunity to break out of my comfort zone and step into my "NYC It girl" era.

I believed it worked for her, but I wasn't so sure about it working for me until I was sitting in my apartment for hours on end, wondering why I wasn't exploring every last corner of the city while I still have the opportunity to do so. Funnily enough, using one of my favorite hobbies—building a timeless fragrance collection—has helped me draw connections between new places and events in my life. I like to think of it as another version of scrapbooking.

Rather than photographing each of my findings and decorating a book with ticket stubs and cursive notes, I keep track of everything that I've seen and done by assigning it a scent profile. That way, whenever I smell a particular fragrance, I'm transported right back to one of my favorite places. You'll be hard-pressed to find someone more excited about Anne Hathaway's new movie The Idea of You than me. The second I finished the book it was adapted from, I went back to page one and read it again. And if you have to watch one of your favorite books turn into a movie—something that far too often leads to disappointment—finding out that Hathaway's going to be the one leading the charge is a dream come true. She never misses—on or off the screen.

Proof of that arrived on Sunday when she showed up to a screening of the movie at the 92nd Street Y on the Upper East Side of Manhattan wearing a daring black leather three-piece suit from Ralph Lauren that featured controversial skinny-leg pants, a matching black tie, and a fitted waistcoat. As for shoes, she wore the most elegant, flower-embellished Jimmy Choo pumps that added just the right amount of elegance to her otherwise edgy ensemble. Thus far on this press tour, Hathaway and her stylist Erin Walsh have erred more on the feminine side with her outfits, opting for a mix of minidresses, feathers, and sequins, making this look's darker color palette, tailored fit, and bold fabrication stand out. As always, though, Walsh and Hathaway maintained a sense of balance in the look, mixing in a glamorous shoe that just so happens to fit perfectly with today's footwear trend of lavish floral touches (think Prada, Magda Butrym, and Loewe).

Winter is as good a time as any to focus on your capsule wardrobe. Whilst the festive period brings plenty of opportunities for fun and frivolity with partywear, the cooler temperatures also mean that when we're not in a sequin frock, we're often turning to elevated everyday staples. I'm talking about the cosy cashmere knits, tailored wool coats, well-cut denim and a series of boots, bags and other accessories that are fabulously well-made and reliable enough to see us through the season in style.

In the middle of winter, we of course have New Year, which for many is a natural time of change and refresh. "New Year, New Me” is an obvious trope, but it’s rooted in something valid. A new year is an opportunity for reassessment, and this can apply to our wardrobes as much as our mindsets. This doesn’t necessarily mean acquiring pieces that adhere to the trends predicted for the year ahead; it's more about investing in timeless classics that will be worn, cherished and relied upon for decades to come. Let's face it: Ralph Lauren needs no introduction. Think denim shirts, quilted jackets, Fair Isle patterns and sumptuous slip dresses, all in a tasteful neutral palette. To demonstrate this, I asked content creator and Who What Wear UK columnist Jessica Skye to style four looks she’ll be wearing this winter (and winters to come), selected completely from the Ralph Lauren and Polo collections. Jess is known for her refined taste, and she has put together outfits perfect for this busy time of year when we find our brimming calendars take us from meeting to errand to appointment, from one lunch date to another dinner—all without the time to nip home and change. 1. Winter Whites

Style Notes: "Quiet luxury" has been one of the buzziest terms in fashion this year, and this look encapsulates the vibe perfectly, especially with the jumper's extra-high neck and Jess's choice to wear her coat over her shoulders. There's nothing chicer than a tonal ensemble, and white trousers are the perfect accompaniment to beige or neutral hues. Here, Jess has created a delicious vision of crème caramel or latte-inspired pieces that feel elevated but are also comfortable. The secret to adding interest when dressing in a head-to-toe palette is to mix and layer texture. Case in point: Jess has opted for a wool coat and jumper to contrast with the cotton trousers, tweed bag and suede boots. 

2. Double Denim

Style Notes: Everything about this outfit feels so inherently Ralph Lauren. The A/W 23 collection sought inspiration from the American West and cowboy culture, which is surely more authentic for Ralph Lauren than any brand. Jess's interpretation feels classic and cool but also sophisticated. Double denim is often something people feel weary of, but by layering a Fair Isle tank over the top of this denim shirt, the look feels cosy and the blue hues are broken up. This flared bootleg cut is re-emerging for jeans, elongating the leg and working with many shoe styles, but I love that Jess has offered something unexpected in her choice of sandal. The other accessories also speak to the Western theme without feeling gimmicky; the belt with a large silver buckle and rust-coloured suede saddle bag look as if they were made for each other and work perfectly with the denim.

3. Preppy-Chic

Style Notes: Another classic Ralph Lauren look, Jess's styling has some Western undertones, but this time draws more on the equestrian theme. By swapping sandals for pointed-toe cowboy boots or mules for riding boots, the look immediately feels a little sportier and preppier, helped along by the white shirt and Polo-logo cap. Preppy styling has dominated autumn/winter trends in recent years, and it's all about combining tradition with a twist. The touch of tweed with the longline coat and bag feels classic, but paired with the sports cap, it gets an unexpected and contemporary edge. This white shirt is actually part of the menswear collection so it fits slightly differently, reinforcing just how much of Ralph Lauren's menswear collections can be worn by everyone, making the pieces ideal festive gifts. I love how Jess has buttoned it to the collar and tucked it neatly into the jeans, instead of taking the obvious route and wearing it open and loosely over the trousers. However, both ways work just as well. 

4. Easy Elegance

Style Notes: We love a slip dress or skirt with a cosy knit on top. This elegant yet easy combination is the definition of day-to-night styling (just swap the knit for a blazer and add some lipstick to take this from the office to dinner). Jess's decision to pair it with sandals makes it feel a little more transitional or ideal for evenings, but you could easily swap out the sandals for boots on cooler days. Take note of Jess's knitwear choices in all of these outfits—timeless and autumnal brown is the season's most loved colour that has taken centre stage, perhaps even over black. A softer tone for wool that balances perfectly with the cream satin, this contrast of fabrics is an effortless trick.

After decamping to Los Angeles for a spectacular show last season, Ralph Lauren made a triumphant return to the New York calendar on Friday. After all, what is New York Fashion Week without the Bronx-born designer? Lauren and NYC go together like PB&J. To no one's surprise, the legendary brand attracted dozens of A-list celebrities, including Jennifer Lopez, Diane Keaton, Sofia Richie, and Gabrielle Union.

Championing courtside elegance, Emma Watson maintained her reputation for refined, chic dressing at the 2023 US Open Tennis Championships in New York this week. Not one for frequent public appearances, when we spot Watson out and about, we know we’re in for a fashionable treat. Watson often favours sharp tailoring for big events, and the US Open was no exception. The countdown is officially on. If you're following the quiet-luxury and old-money aesthetics as closely as I am, you'll want to scroll through to see the outfits celebrities have worn to Wimbledon. The two-week tennis tournament is happening now at the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club just outside London. So far, we've seen Phoebe Dynevor in a matching baby-blue striped set, Emma Corrin in an ecru shorts suit, and Anna Wintour in a polka-dot plissé dress. We often get glimpses of Jennifer Lawrence's off-duty style while she's out and about in New York City. From these sightings, we've learned the actress has some of the best quiet-luxury looks. A black-and-pink gown made of both velvet and silk that featured a 3D flower motif made of feathers and a large ab-baring cutout. For her umpteenth Met Gala since her debut in 2004, the singer-actress worked with legendary American designer Ralph Lauren to craft an ode to Lagerfeld in dress form. The result? A gown of black velvet and pink silk that featured an ab-baring cutout and a 3D flower motif made of feathers. On the accessories front, she added a black fascinator, a matching baby-pink clutch, Lorraine Schwartz jewels, and her signature sky-high platform heels (this particular pair is from Piferi), which could be spotted peeking out from under her floor-sweeping hem every so often as she walked the steps of the Met. It might feel early in the season for holiday dressing, but Jennifer Lopez doesn't live on anyone's schedule, so of course, she'd break out a festive 'fit before December's arrival. Over Thanksgiving weekend, the Hustlers actress was spotted out with her husband, Ben Affleck, at the Winter Garden Theatre in NYC, where they attended a performance of The Music Man.

For the occasion, Lopez went with two pieces from Ralph Lauren Collection, a Fair Isle sweater and a tulle maxi skirt with a slit up the entire right side. But the holiday festivities didn't end there. With her party-ready skirt choice, she added fishnet tights and a pair of velvet Giuseppe Zanotti platforms with a casual five-inch heel. She even carried a shearling pillow bag from Coach for added effect.
