At the beginning of every year, Pinterest lovers like myself are greeted by fresh trend coverage and predictions for what we'll be seeing over the next twelve months based on consumer practices and brand intel. While I have a finger to the pulse of the beauty industry as an editor who spends half of my work days scrolling for inspiration, and the other half writing about it, I'm extremely interested in what the popular platform (which is driven by a steady source of inspiration from users), has to say about the colors that will be everywhere. Gen Z beauty loves are becoming increasingly enthralled with products that are multipurpose ad easy-to-use with dependable results. Drugstore favorites we all know and love that flew under the radar in the last decade are ending up on vanities right next to luxury finds that can be spotted on the runways. Enter this year's color palette: Grounded, playful, and fashion-forward. So, what does that mean for the beauty space going forward? For some, December marks the beginning of the end. The month is spent drawing one year to a close, celebrating another, and acknowledging all the good and bad things that come with both. For me, however, the month also signals a sort of rebirth for my appreciation for the fine arts onstage, in museums, and on my bookshelf. You can imagine how excited I was to discover that Pinterest's 2026 trend predictions for beauty, fashion, and lifestyle included something dubbed the opera aesthetic with images of velvet theater seats, dimly lit aisles, and light-flooded stages followed by pictures of opulent perfume bottles, ethereal hair accessories, and elegant makeup kissed by candlelight. The entire trend feels like something straight out of Gaston Leroux's 1910 classic novel The Phantom of the Opera.

"Enter: the opulent party. Dial up the drama with velvet drapery, red roses, and string quartets," reads the description found beneath Pinterest's featured board. As a lover of the extravagance, romance, and mystery of the opera, I found myself creating an entirely new Pinterest board dedicated to my interpretation of the trend as a beauty editor. My take leans into the trend's softer, more whimsical side, evoking everything from the excited whispers behind the curtain to the dried flower bouquets hanging in dressing rooms to must-have beauty essentials, such as diffused blush, glitter-flecked nail polish, heady floral scents, and more. Pinterest doesn't make trend predictions based on a wing and a prayer. How do I know? Well, the proof is in the pudding: Pinterest's predictions over the last six years have been accurate 88% of the time. "Pinterest is a uniquely visual platform, so our trend analysis goes beyond search queries," the company explained in a statement. "We look at the complete picture—the colors, aesthetics, and styles people are drawn to. By analyzing year-over-year growth, we identify the fast-rising patterns and curate findings into the future-looking report."

So what's poised to take off in 2026? The platform's newest report spans several categories, including beauty, home, fashion, travel, food, and more, but I'm focusing solely on fashion for the purposes of this story. The term "brooch aesthetic" increased by 110% when comparing Pinterest searches from 2024 to 2025. As I reported in real time, the 2025 Met Gala red carpet was rife with brooches of all shapes and sizes. Notably, Succession star Sarah Snook wore six different jeweled pins on her lapel and centered a seventh one on her shirt collar.

2. Icy Blue

It's Elsa's time to shine. According to Pinterest, searches for "icy blue" have increased by 50%, while the term "glacier aesthetic" is up 35%. Here's one that threw me for a loop: Pinterest users have also been increasingly interested in ice blue wedding dresses. Who knew?

3. Glamoratti

"The decade of decadence is back in style—and honestly, it’s about time," Pinterest explained in its report. "Tailored suits with sculpted shoulders will grow three sizes. Funnel necks will be the base of every outfit. And jewelry? Well, that’ll get chunkier, bolder, and golder. Gen Z and Millennials are driving this maximalist aesthetic."

Personally, whenever I’m in a fashion rut and my go-to outfit formulas just don't have the impact they used to, I look to social media in search of inspiration. As someone who has chronic decision paralysis in the mornings and desperately needs that precious extra 30 minutes of sleep, it’s great to have some fail-safes at the ready. A few months ago, I received a notification that both excited me and made my stomach drop. Pinterest alerted me to the fact that my oldest board (the one dedicated to all wedding-related things) had turned 11 years old, meaning that I, at the ripe age of 15, had some pretty big plans for how my 20s would pan out. Revisiting the board revealed a number of things I had forgotten about myself: an adoration for Juliet-cap veils, calligraphy, ultra-matte bridal makeup, and rehearsal dinners bathed in warm candlelight. Thirty minutes of scrolling later, I found myself deep in the signature mason-jar florals, burlap tablecloths, and flower crowns of the mid-2010s and suddenly faced with a completely different version of myself.

Elaborate wedding plans aside, there's something to be said about the unique experience of being Gen Z with millennial tendencies. The adulthood I imagined for myself while browsing the romance section of Borders bookstore to the soundtrack of Norah Jones—the very same one being experienced by my older cousins—sometimes feels like it slipped away with the arrival of the social media age. The many iterations of myself, from my 15-year-old self to my present-day self, have been meticulously documented using those same algorithms. My constantly changing Pinterest homepage, detailed boards, and "Ideas for You" recommendations give insight into niche and trendy beauty aesthetics I've been drawn to over the last decade that have inspired full revamps of my vanity with the new product discoveries. This time around, I'll be diving into the impact my algorithm and its recommended beauty aesthetics have had on my collection of beauty essentials.

Growing up on the coast of the Pacific Northwest, I always held a particular fascination with everything aquatic. To me, the mysterious dark waves of the Salish Sea bring vivid images of ghostly ships lost at sea, choppy rocks rising from the depths, and the mysterious spirits that inhabit them. I've never experienced the haunting voices some of my fellow Seattleites have claimed to hear carried on the wind on the most overcast days of our rainy season, but I'd be the last person to deny their presence. While I've yet to find an official definition for this aesthetic, I've surmised it has everything to do with the impression left by people who fall into this category. Drawn to warm textiles and even warmer kitchens, this person favors the small comforts of life that bring them serenity through the whimsical romanticization of daily tasks—something as mundane as painting your nails while catching up on the news or wearing hair accessories with designs that could double as artwork. I like to think that embracing your inner cozy aficionado is a celebration of the people in our lives who worked hard to create the sweet moments we'll never forget. Cozy aficionado beauty is all about coziness: no-fuss makeup looks, hair swept from the nape of the neck into claw clips with sweet designs, and perfumes that can add a dash of nostalgia to your day in a single spritz.

A charming trinket or two on the vanity can't hurt, right? Extra points if it happens to be an essential step of your makeup routine while doubling as an eye-catching décor piece that elevates any space. Pinterest has a knack for introducing products to me that forever tempt my interior design– and beauty-loving heart (which results in a few extra packages arriving at my doorstep every month). While Pinterest once reigned as the platform dedicated to all things DIY and party-planning galore, the fashion part of the website has seen significant growth recently amongst Generation Z. A simple scroll on fashion TikTok or YouTube and you will find a variety of videos where users are either re-creating "Pinterest outfits” or showcasing the outfits they love and have pinned to their boards recently. And when a girl with a fashionable look goes viral, her comments are often flooded with "What's your Pinterest account?”

According to Enid Hwang, Pinterest's community marketing manager, Generation Z is highly interested in aesthetics, with their search for the word ranking 447% higher than with Millenials. "On Pinterest, Gen Z’s journey to discover their identity and passions is ever-present, as they open-mindedly save ideas to boards and find more along the way,” said Hwang in a public report. It's evident that with image sharing app, the younger generation is creating boards that reflect their dream lifestyle, along with how they wish to dress and present themselves. To dive deeper into the fashion realm of the platform, I reached out to four girls who have created a popular social presence for themselves amongst not only Pinterest, but TikTok and Instagram as well, and have earned the love from the younger generation, inspiring them with their sense of style. 

Why do you think you and other Gen Z’ers are using Pinterest more often as a source of fashion inspiration as opposed to other sites or apps? 

While the search bar and hashtags do exist on Pinterest, the app is really unique in the sense that the algorithm is constantly feeding you new photos that are similar to ones you’ve already pinned which is really useful when it comes to finding fashion inspiration. So it comes to a point where I don’t even need to search up keywords to find inspiration—I can simply log onto the app and I expect I will be met with a plethora of new photos. 

Many people have said that Pinterest has helped shaped their lives, attributing to "dream” mood boards, career goals, lifestyle, etc. Is this applicable to your life and if so, how?

Pinterest has provided me an easy way to virtually curate "vision” boards, which has been such an important and powerful step in eventually bringing my visions to life. I would say Pinterest has helped me build my "dream” style. The boards I create bring me exactly the inspiration I need to take risks with my own style and actively think about new ways I can spice up my closet. Also, more often than not, I end up pinning outfits that end up having a common piece, such as a specific leather jacket. Then sometimes I somehow end up finding a similar piece in the thrift store! It’s almost as if Pinterest has a way of working that kind of magic into my life. 

What are some fashion trends you’ve been loving that you’ve found yourself searching for on Pinterest lately?

Funky patterns, the '70s prints are back and I’m living for it. There are so many pieces in thrift stores with unique patterns and prints, so I always look to Pinterest for ideas of how to style them. I've also been seeing patchwork show up over and over in so many cool outfits. Some people have been reworking fabric from thrift stores, and others have been utilizing vintage patchwork pieces. The style is so eye-catching. Berets have also made their way into my wardrobe, and I know of so many others who have done the same especially ever since Emily in Paris released on Netflix!

Has Pinterest influenced your fashion taste or style? 

Pinterest has 1000% played a role in polishing my style. I’m a little scatterbrained and I can appreciate many different aesthetics. Because of this, I’d go out to stores and buy almost anything I thought was cool. I'd end up with all these cool pieces but nothing worked together and they weren’t exactly me. When I made my Pinterest, I made sure to only save things I felt personally connected to. By creating boards and seeing how everything worked together in one place, I could pinpoint exactly what I liked. It helped me shop more consciously and put better outfits together.

Many think that there’s a notion of the typical "Pinterest girl” not being as diverse as it should. How would you like to see that change amongst the app as well as within the online fashion community?

As a Black girl, I hate that I always need to add the words "Black girl” to most of the things I’m searching for on Pinterest because otherwise, the default is skinny white women. And that goes for anything beauty, hair, style, etc. And even when I’m looking at Black-oriented or hijabi content, I’m presented with the same looking people every time. I wish the online fashion community as a whole would embrace diversity the way it claims to. I’m so over tokenism within the industry. I want to see plus-size people, disabled people, dark-skinned people, etc. just as paid and just as booked as their counterparts.

What are some fashion trends you’ve been loving that you’ve found yourself searching for on Pinterest lately?

Some fashion trends I’ve been loving on Pinterest are chunky boots and slouchy trousers. 

I’ve read people say that they love Pinterest because "it’s like social media without the social,” as it’s more of a personal experience rather than focusing on other people. Do you agree, and is that what draws you more to the app? 

It’s interesting because before I started posting on Pinterest, I would have agreed it was more just pretty pictures with none of the social aspects. As I’ve gained a following, I get comments and direct messages daily, and I can’t say they are all positive. In fact, the longer I’ve been on Pinterest, the more I’ve noticed my and other creator’s comments get bombarded with people picking apart appearances. It was so shocking, and I believe because people have this idea that Pinterest is just a website for inspiration, they forget that there are real creators behind some of the accounts that generate content. It hasn’t been all negative feedback, however, and I have received a lot of encouraging messages from people as well. I believe there is a social aspect to the app and Gen Z is what will change the website drastically with how they utilize the platform. Pinterest is turning more into a social media platform than people realize.

What are some fashion trends you’ve been loving that you’ve found yourself searching for on Pinterest lately? 

I have eyes for all things colorful, so the fashion trends or "aesthetics” that I like to stay on top of are kidcore and pastelcore, as well as It-girl trends like sparkly pants, chunky plastic/polymer rings, baby tees, and surprisingly, Uggs have also been on my recent searches (hello, 2009!)

Many think that there’s a notion of the typical "Pinterest girl” not being as diverse as it should. How would you like to see that change amongst the app as well as within the online fashion community?

I think with any section of the fashion industry, the non-POC girls tend to rise to the top. Pinterest has great potential for pushing non-traditional beauty standards. If you open up your Pinterest and see a girl who doesn’t look like you, wearing something you like, then you lose the idea that a certain type of fashion is just for people who fit a certain stereotype and if they can use their algorithm to help boost that type of content, I think they could really create some true change and dialogue within the fashion industry for the younger generation.

Why do you think you and other Gen Z’ers are using Pinterest more often as a source of fashion inspiration as opposed to others?

I think because it’s super personal. Not only can it help you with fashion but you can also learn about mental health, manifestation, and much more. Plus nobody is trying to sell you things, which I know sounds funny because I’m an influencer, but outside of material things, on other platforms, people are always trying to sell you on something—whether it’s their aesthetic, their way of thinking, etc. Pinterest is just, "This looks sick, do you like it? Okay, here’s more!” and you can't beat that.

What are some fashion trends you’ve been loving that you’ve found yourself searching for on Pinterest lately? 

I love old school John Paul Gaultier, so I’ve been obsessed with looking up mesh printed tops, but I also love super-’60s mod looks, because I think they have this inherent quirkiness to them that makes you feel happy to see such bright and crazy colors. I’m always looking for knee-high boots, but lately, I love different colored ones—especially white, which is big this season.

For as long as I can remember, I've used Pinterest to keep track of all of my shopping finds across the internet. I refer back to my boards when I'm working on sourcing products for stories, shopping for a new season or a trip, gift ideas—you name it. I don't keep every one of my boards up to date, but among the ones that I do (such as shoes, Zara, beauty products, home decor, and even face masks), my Wish List board is my most-used by far. I add to this board on an almost daily basis. It has over 3.6k products and counting and if you really scroll deep into it, it serves as its own time capsule (I seemingly was very into the color lavender, sparkly socks, and heart-shaped earring a few years ago...). 

While I might not be making quite as many fall fashion purchases this year, as per usual, I'm keeping close tabs on everything I will, or would at least like to, spend my clothing budget on this season. If you're waiting until December 31 at 11:59 p.m. to commit to changing something about your life—whether it's getting organized at home and at work, eating better, or going to the gym more—we hate to break it to you, but there's no excuse to not just do it right now. The fall season can be a New Year's of sorts for many people, even if you're not going back to school. There's something about leaving behind the laid-back summer days and feeling the need to hunker down and get shit done before the end of the year. We already wrote about the many things you can do before the clock strikes midnight on January 1, and it looks like we're not the only ones that are hyping up fall as a time for a change. 

According to a new Pinterest report, the social media platform sees searches for "organization," "routine," "positivity," and "goal setting," spike twice—during the New Year and in the fall. In fact, a survey "revealed that 57% of adults in the U.S. say they are looking for ways to maintain their positive mindset through fall." Pinterest is calling this mood "Back to Life," what we can only assume is a take on back to school.

So what exactly are people searching for when it comes to these goals? Pinterest broke it down, which we highlighted below. If you're looking for some goal inspo or looking to make a change this fall, let this be your guide.

Life Organization

Pinterest says that the search term "life organization" is up by 78% this year, evidence that people are looking to get everything from their spaces to finances in check. Should we thank Marie Kondo for the rise in popularity?

In particular, Pinterest users are extremely interested in organizing their budget and finances—the platform saw a search increase of 3298% (yes, you read that right). Pinners are using budgeting templates to help them achieve just that.

Another top search is "sustainable lifestyle," which is up 108% and is no surprise to us since we reported which sustainable products were trending on Pinterest last month. With many people moving toward sustainability globally, we only see this number growing.

And one more search term of note in the organization category is "organization videos," up 230%. Without a doubt, we can attribute this to the KonMari. Plus, there's something so soothing about watching a cluttered space get streamlined in a matter of seconds or minutes in video form.

Feel-Good Routines

You might not have had a strict routine during the summer, and honestly, why would you? But now that fall is coming around, more and more people are looking to pick back up their routines or start new ones. Search terms like "productive day routine" (+180%), "morning routine videos" (+161%), and "weekend routine" (+144%) are trending. This is another trend we wholeheartedly support since we love hearing about people's routines through our Morning Person series.

For those with families (or even roommates), you'll be interested to know that Pinterest has seen terms like "routine chart" (+161%) and "family chore chart" (282%) gaining traction, too. Most people seem to have busier schedules in the fall, with back-to-school being a big driving force—so it's no surprise that people are feeling the need for some visuals when coordinating everyone's whereabouts.

Positivity

Pinterest users are also looking to be more positive in their lives—whether that's embracing body flaws, being grateful, and looking for inspiration to keep an optimistic mindset. In terms of body positivity, we were pleasantly surprised to see that trending Pinterest searches included "acne positivity" (+193%), "stretch marks positivity" (+163%), "body hair positivity" (+158%), and "cellulite positivity (+69%). This bit of news is so encouraging, as we dedicated a whole month to body appreciation, with tips on how to practice self-love—so any interest and movement when it comes to the topic is so welcome.

Other ways people are trying to maintain positivity is through inspirational quotes and words, with "inspirational poetry quotes" up 650%, and "positive quotes to live by" up 279%.

Goal Setting

Lastly, it's a no-brainer that searches like "goal planning" (+128%) and "goal list" (+101%) are also trending on the social media platform as well. If you're trying to get organized, get a lot more done, and live a healthier lifestyle, you've got to set some goals so you have an idea of what you want to accomplish before the year's up. On that goal-setting front, it seems like everyone has different outlooks: Some are looking for "career planning" (+101%) and others looking to settle in with "dream house plans" (+669%) and "big family goals" (+68%). Other people are looking to feed their wanderlust with "travel dreams (+2178%).

Whatever your goals or ambitions are this season, it's important to set some realistic ones and not be so hard on yourself if you can't get it done. It's great to try your best (and it's even better to succeed), but there's always next year if you can't do it all.

The time has come for Pinterest to release its top trends for the month. Although December has just begun, the search platform is on top of what has piqued users' interest this season, and the findings in the shoe department were, well, interesting. Pinterest just reported that searches for wedge sneakers (yes, you read correctly) have increased by 198% year over year. 

You may recall that the world was flooded with wedge sneakers circa 2012, and the trend eventually peaked and faded away. Perhaps the chunky dad sneakers that have been so popular have something to do with the interest, as many of them resemble a new take on wedge sneakers. But if it's the classics you prefer, Isabel Marant still makes those. 

Aside from the most controversial of sneaker trends, searches for sweater-and-skirt combos, Chelsea boots, and trench coats have also gained major steam as of late. Ochre, cinnamon, rust, burnt orange and terracotta—there are many things that this season's biggest colour trend is, but easy to pin down is not one of them. Yet despite this indecisiveness, the fashion world has gone gaga for this earthy hue. Somebody call Kermit the Frog and let him know he's en vogue again: Green outfits are trending. Girls on social media are swapping soft pinks and vibrant yellows for shades of pea, jade, sage, lime and lots of green shades in between. The "green aesthetic" (as it has become known on Pinterest) is popping, and there's plenty of recent retail smash-hit evidence to back it up.

For a few months in a row, we've seen ASOS's restocked green floral dresses selling out before they've barely made it back onto the virtual rails. This is a dress trend we charted all the way back to last summer when Réalisation's wrap dress stole the show. Then there are the Manolo Blahnik emerald satin pumps and Balenciaga Knife slingbacks in a strikingly similar fabric and colourway. Both have been keenly adopted by shoefie-takers the world over, spawning high-street copycats and inspiring women to swap their standard black pumps for green iterations. Of course, never a brand to be left out of a major moment, Ganni's acid-green polka-dot pieces are currently coming to the fore. The fashion world is even going crazy for Nigeria's World Cup 2018 jerseys, and they're instantly recognisable by the bright green zig-zag pattern and matching fluoro socks.

We've found plenty of evidence that there's more green action outside of dresses and shoes, too. I know I’m late to the game, but it’s only because I haven’t been renovating my house or planning a wedding, or deciding on a major hair change or going on a tropical holiday (you get the point)—and didn’t realise there was actually so much more to Pinterest than cake recipes and bridesmaid dresses. Since my addiction started (last year), I’ve had a secret style board, where I pin the street style looks I want to recreate.
