Live from Los Angeles: I attended the 98th Academy Awards! As part of Etalk’s Oscars coverage, I reported from the red carpet alongside Tyrone Edwards and Lainey Lui. And let me tell you this was like no other assignment I’ve had before. The carpet was the longest of the season, taking up multiple lanes down Hollywood Boulevard, tracking all the way inside the Dolby Theatre. Our coverage lasted for a whopping three and a half hours. And the scene was filled with the world’s biggest stars, from Michael B. Jordan to Zendaya.

Etalk’s camera angles captured several memorable moments—thanks to Lainey’s infamously sharp eye for gossip—like Timothée Chalamet avoiding Steven Spielberg and celebs like Brandi Carlile and Elle Fanning shooting tequila. Tyrone was able to speak to stars like Best Supporting Actress winner Amy Madigan, who confirmed to Etalk that Warner Brothers is behind a Weapons prequel. And my job? Fashion expertise, of course.

It didn’t take long for me to spot the trends of the evening: glitter, feathers, chokers, brooches, and red lipstick. Here, the best examples.

Bold Glitter

Whether it was sequins or, more unexpectedly, beading, sparkle was the name of the game at this year’s Oscars. And there was a version for everyone, from sexy to classic to cool. We saw stars like Wunmi Mosaku go for bold gem-tone sequins in Louis Vuitton, Kate Hudson in head-to-toe seafoam paillettes by Armani Privé, and Audrey Nuna in gilded beading paired with a ball-gown skirt from Thom Browne.

Feathers

One of fashion month’s top trends was feathers—cut to Schiaparelli couture, Chanel fall 2026, etcetera, etcetera. It was exiting to see that theme hit the red carpet a matter of days after Paris Fashion Week wrapped. Chanel took the front position here with Teyana Taylor in a tiered ostrich-feather skirt with a matching black-and-white handbag and Nicole Kidman in a feather-accented peplum number. Demi Moore wore a more birdlike custom gown by Gucci.

Choker Necklaces

I’m not exaggerating when I say that almost every single woman had a statement choker on. Below are my favorites, including Anne Hathaway in Bulgari (and Valentino), Chase Infiniti in De Beers (and Louis Vuitton), and Jessie Buckley in Chanel. But we also saw them on Zoe Saldaña, Mikey Madison, Kristen Wiig, Alicia Silverstone, Ava DuVernay, Elle Fanning, Priyanka Chopra, Anna Wintour—the list goes on.

Beautiful Brooches

For those who wore menswear, it was all about the brooch. My favorite of the evening was Pedro Pascal in an unexpectedly large white floral pin made from feathers against a crisp white shirt. More classically, Hudson Williams wore a small diamond brooch on the lapel of this all-black three-piece Balenciaga 'fit. And if you looked super closely, you could see the tiniest gold adornment on the center of Miles Caton’s brown monochrome Amiri ensemble.

The Standout Beauty Look: Red Lip + Slicked Bun

If there was one standout beauty trend, it was easily red lips and slick hair. (For the men: mustaches and bow ties.) Renate Reinsve, Rose Byrne, Li Jun Li, and Jessie Buckley all rocked this look. At the Vanity Fair after-party, model Precious Lee followed suit.

The Academy Awards are the most prestigious film-industry event of the entire year. The dress code is black tie, and the beauty blueprint is chic, glamorous, and utterly sophisticated. I think I emitted an audible gasp when I caught a glimpse of Rose Byrne's vivid red lipstick. Her makeup artist, Hung Vanngo, paired the pop of red with sculpted eye shadow and glowing skin. IMO, it was a master class in Oscars makeup.

Jessie Buckley

Celebrity makeup artist Nina Park was the expert behind Oscar winner Jessie Buckley's look. "The inspiration for Jessie’s look came from the colors of her dress," she said in a press release. "With the striking red and pink tones, I wanted the makeup to feel harmonious. Soft, radiant skin, paired with a diffused red lip, highlighted her natural beauty, while maintaining an elegant and understated finish." To create a "lived-in" look, Park layered two Chanel products, pressing them into the lips for that diffused effect.

Renate Reinsve

Celebrity makeup artist Emily Cheng expertly matched Renate Reinsve's lipstick to her custom Louis Vuitton dress. She used a La Beauté Louis Vuitton signature formula—a poppy-red shade with orange and yellow undertones to bring a "fresh radiance" to her look. The lipstick has a high-end price tag ($160!), but it's refillable and housed in a luxurious monogram-covered tube that the brand calls "an eternal keepsake."

Last night, the 98th annual Academy Awards took place in Los Angeles. The fashion? Stunning. The beauty? Off the charts. Standout trends included matchy-matchy monochromatic makeup and Wuthering Heights–coded gothic waves. That said, there was another, more low-key trend happening on the red carpet—one you wouldn't be able to spot unless you had the insider knowledge to do so. Say it ain't so! The 2025/2026 award season has officially come to a close. But not without delivering one—well, technically two if you count the Vanity Fair Oscars After-Party—final red carpet, thanks to the 98th annual Academy Awards. Sartorially speaking, it was a night of incredible highs and exciting whoas, from Best Actress winner Jessie Buckley's elegant nod to Grace Kelly and Teyana Taylor's unexpected feather-adorned Chanel by Matthieu Blazy moment to Elle Fanning's antique Cartier necklace and Chase Infiniti's lilac ruffled gown. After months and months of buildup, Hollywood's biggest night never disappoints with celebs and their stylists pulling out all of the stops.

Another case in point? Bruna Marquezine. The Brazilian actress debuted a fresh bob and looked radiant in custom Gucci. The sparkling, hand-crafted silver strapless gown worn with Wempe jewelry (including a 43-carat diamond necklace) fit Marquezine like a glove, with the crystal-encrusted silhouette catching the light beautifully at every angle. The look, styled by Dani Michelle, evoked timeless glamour with a modern twist.

What does your Oscar morning look like?

My Oscar morning is usually very calm. I like to wake up slowly, have a light breakfast, listen to music, and take a moment for myself before everything starts. It's a long and exciting day, so I try to begin it with a peaceful mindset.

What was the direction for your glam look? Did you and your team look at any specific references?

We wanted something classic yet modern and elegant. The idea was to complement the dress and keep the focus on a timeless beauty look.

You recently chopped your hair. What inspired the major hair change, and what do you love about the new style?

I was ready for a change. Cutting my hair felt very freeing, and I love how fresh and modern it feels. It's also been really fun (and easy) to style!

Tell us about the look you chose for the evening? What made it a standout amongst other options?

The look was a custom stretch crystal knit handmade in Italy by the Gucci atelier. When my stylist, Dani, showed me a photo, I was so excited, but it was even better than I could've imagined when I actually got to try it on in person. It just had this incredible Oscars glow. It felt so timeless as a silhouette, but modern and fresh for fashion right now.

How did it make you feel when you first put it on?

I mean, look at it! It's so special. Who doesn't love a little sparkle?! It really felt perfect for the occasion.

Any favorite details to note?

The look as a whole was so special, but the necklace was quite striking: 43 carats of oval diamonds!

What's your personal red carpet dressing philosophy?

For me, it's always about feeling authentic and loyal to myself. That's such a priority for me.

Who were you most excited to see/run into?

I'm particularly excited that Brazil is represented tonight by Wagner Moura. He was truly incredible in The Secret Agent.

What did the end of your night look like?

I went back to my hotel to change. Had to get into something I could dance in! Jet lag is no excuse on Oscars night.

My fellow editors and I watched the 98th Academy Awards with bated breath, absorbing every last fashion and beauty detail with expert eyes. But every fashionphile knows that the best looks are pulled at the after-party, and the star-studded Vanity Fair affair played host to some of our favorite beauty looks of the night. While we layfolk often use celebs as references for special-occasion glam, it seems the stars might do the same. Case in point, Iris Apatow’s fresh, natural spring after-party look—accented by a lush raspberry lip and ruffled dress that feels so Carolyn Bessette Kennedy coded.

You may be familiar with the budding actress’s famous family (her sister Maude Apatow is set to return to the hotly anticipated season three of HBO’s Euphoria in April) or her boyfriend-slash-star of The White Lotus’ third season, Sam Nivola. But Apatow was a scene-stealer at the Vanity Fair Oscars after-party, where her soft, yet statement-making spring glam captured our attention—featuring a never-before-seen Tatcha lip product that I'm giving you a first look at.

Celebrity makeup artist Tami El Sombati worked with Apatow during the waning hours of the show to create her chic, spring-coded glam using Tatcha skincare and makeup products. The secret sauce? Tatcha’s newest addition to its growing lip collection, the Melting Lip Balm, in the soft raspberry shade Reddo.

Though Sombati said Apatow’s gown was the main driver behind the beauty direction (a Rodarte gown that reminds me so much of a Yohji Yamamoto suit Bessette Kennedy styled in 1999), she deferred to the young actress’s innate knack for beauty. “[Iris] is really in tune with beauty,” Sombati tells Who What Wear. “She wanted to do a bold lip, so we wanted the skin to look really radiant, fresh, and natural as the backdrop.” (Did we mention CBK was also quite fond of a soft red lip and a wispy bun, too?)

Sombati was laser-focused on skin and lip prep before touching Apatow’s face with makeup. “Skin prep is so essential for a red carpet glow that lasts for hours,” she explains. “When there’s a smooth, hydrated base, makeup not only applies better, but looks more seamless and natural,” the makeup artist adds. Her hero lineup included Tatcha’s Luminous Dewy Skin Mist, the Dewy Skin Cream (a WWW editor-favorite), the Kissu Lip Mask, and the just-announced Melting Lip Balm.

“Bold lip colours can be drying, so the Melting Lip Balm maintains a healthy, glossy look, and helps the lips look and feel softer and more moisturized,” Sombati explains. While she says that you can easily wear these chic lip tints alone, she swears by them as a topper over your favorite lip combo. “They can slightly adjust the tone of your lip shade, and they have a comfortable, glossy finish,” she elaborates.

There are few things in fashion we can bank on, but if there's one thing, it's that the Academy Awards will serve multiple very good looks on the red carpet. Be it sexy, sequinned or downright surprising, we know as editors we'll wake up on that Monday in March to a series of viral moments, magnificent dresses and, of course, the news of who took home the most-coveted awards.

When covering the Oscars, particularly the red carpet fashion, we expect fun, fabulous but relatively unwearable looks. Feathers! Naked dresses! Rhinestones! Stunning? Yes. But easy to wear day to day? Perhaps not. But there was one microtrend I spotted at this year’s Academy Awards that I think is not only wearable but about to be huge, and that’s embroidered floral motifs.

Whilst we spotted a few examples; Rose Byrne in custom Dior, Lauren Santo Domingo in Conner Ives for the Vanity Fair after-party and Arden Cho in Miss Sohee, Anne Hathaway’s black velvet haute couture Valentino Garavani gown was possibly the most breathtaking. With a mermaid silhouette, a deep waisted belt and accessorised with matching black velvet opera gloves, Roger Vivier Jewel heeled sandals and Bulgari jewellery, this was not your standard little black dress. Hathaway’s choice to wear the luxury brand was no doubt a tribute to the house’s namesake designer Valentino Garavini, who died in January and was a friend of hers.

Another example that caught my eye was Lauren Santo Domingo’s Conner Ives dress for the Vanity Fair after-party. Floral embroidered silk pieces, primarily coats with a fur trim, are fast becoming a signature for emerging London-based New York designer. Just this weekend Zoe Kravitz was pictured wearing a custom jacket whilst stepping out with her boyfriend Harry Styles. Adorned with oriental florals, like the wisteria on Domingo’s dress, the style feels similar to that of Mary-Kate Olsen’s Balmain silk floral coat worn at The Met Gala in 2013.

Actress and KPop singer Arden Cho also chose soft floral embroidery on her chartreuse green (a trending spring/summer 26 colour) shawl by Miss Sohee courture. The Demon Hunters star paired the green embroidered puffed sleeve piece, which has a long trail from each arm to wear with her fishtail black lace gown.

Rose Byrne, who was nominated for Best Actress at the awards for her role in If I Had Legs I'd Kick You, wore a stunning black velvet gown not unlike Anne Hathaway's. The Dior dress was also sleeveless, with a mermaid silhouette, in jet black with beautiful floral embroidered bouquets across the bottom and chest.

With the annual Academy Awards in its 98th edition, it was only a matter of time before those who attend the prestigious event pay tribute to their predecessors through their looks. On the 2026 Oscars red carpet, that’s exactly what several notable guests did, eschewing the preferred form of method dressing for something more cinematic.

Given that this ceremony is held to toast the stirring on-screen portrayal and box office achievements of the best the industry has to offer, it’s fitting that those who turn out gesture towards the rich history of fashion and film that set the scene for them. This year was certainly a more demure affair, with bridal whites the predominant colour choice and feather accents the defining way to steal the spotlight.

However, these classic gowns certainly still found a way to nod to the past, be it through pulling a look directly from the archives or emulating a dress worn by a previous winner, perhaps in a way of having their success impart onto the wearer.

The most notable iteration of red carpet referencing came in the form of Jessie Buckley’s custom Chanel gown. Whilst the actress, who made history by becoming the first Irish woman to secure the coveted Best Actress award, shares a Celtic connection with Johnathan Anderson and was speculated to be wearing Dior, it was French-Belgian couturier Mattieu Blazy who had the privilege of dressing her for the occasion.

And what an occasion it was, with the luxuriant’s light pink bustier chiffon dress and red satin leather stole broadcast to the world as Buckley accepted the statue through a teary-eyed acceptance speech. (She dedicated the win to the “beautiful chaos of a mother’s heart”, which is an incredibly moving devotion given the subject matter of Hamnet.)

Appropriately, Blazy crafted the gown with Grace Kelly’s 1956 Oscars dress in mind. Though the late Princesses was made by MGM’s in-studio costume designer, Helen Rose, she also wore the silhouette to accept her Best Actress award for her performance in The Country Girl. The same dress, the same stage, close to 70 years later.

Elsewhere, Gracie Abrams accompanied her boyfriend, and Buckley’s co-star, Paul Mescal for what is his second outing to the Oscars, wearing a cropped bustier and pencil skirt darted with embroidered camelia flowers. Also by Chanel, the look emulated the essence of the naked dress Bob Mackie designed for Cher to wear to the 1987 Oscars—where she also took home the top prize for her role as a pragmatic widow in Moonstruck—in all its chintzy glory.

Of course, it wouldn’t be a red carpet reference without mentioning McKenna Grace’s tribute to Gwyneth Paltrow’s bubblegum pink Ralph Lauren dress from 1999, the same year she took home the brass ring for her work in Shakespeare in Love.

Later, at the Vanity Fair after party, Hailey Bieber honoured the long lineage Giorgio Armani has of dressing Oscar winners by wearing a bespoke leopard print dress inspired by the Italian brand’s autumn/winter 2005 haute couture collection.

If you tuned into the awards, you'll know that Jessie Buckley won Best Actress for her role as Agnes Shakespeare in Hamnet. Her custom Chanel dress and bold red lip certainly stole the show, but her hairstylist, Bryce Scarlett, actually shared an insight into the luxury fragrance (or should we say, hair perfume) she wore on the night, and it just so happens to be every beauty editor's favourite scent.

On Instagram, Scarlett shared a snap of Jessie on the red carpet, next to a picture of the Initio Parfums Privés Musk Therapy Hair Mist, seemingly confirming that this was her go-to scent for the evening.

At £87, this expensive-smelling fragrance has been recommended to me by pretty much every editor I know, and since getting my hands on the scent, it's become a staple in my perfume collection. Although it's a hair mist, I like to spray it all over, but you can purchase the matching perfume if you prefer to layer your fragrance.

It opens with fresh notes of bergamot, mandarin and white magnolia, before a heart of white musk takes centre stage. I'd describe it as a skin-like scent, with a clean, soapy aroma. However, this fresh laundry appeal is elevated by notes of sandalwood and pink musk, resulting in a captivating, heady fragrance that certainly feels fitting for such a prestigious event.

It's the sort of perfume that whispers wealth and cocoons the senses like silk being draped across your shoulders. I can totally see why Buckley chose it for her winning night.

Aside from the Met Gala, the Oscars is the biggest night in the calendar for red carpet fashion fans. Along with the rest of the world, Who What Wear editors eagerly gather around our laptops waiting to see who won what, but equally as important, who wore what. We had our predictions—Elle Fanning in something ethereal, Anne Hathaway in something slinky and directional, Gwyneth Paltrow in something minimalist and sleek; but this year we were treated to some truly stand out looks that even we didn't see coming.

Some of our favourites? Kate Hudson in Armani Privé, Jessie Buckley's two-tone custom Chanel, and Mia Goth's romantic, ruffled Dior (almost a nod to her turn in Best Picture nominated Frankenstein), but what really caught our eye was the abundance of one unexpected trend in particular—feathers.

No, they may not be new to the red carpet, and in fact the 2026 Golden Globes was all about ruffling feathers as Charli XCX wore black ostrich feathers, Odessa Zi'on opted for a black Dolce and Gabanna feather stole, and Selena Gomez sported a velvet column gown blooming with a bust of white ‘flowers’ made from feathers. But as the latter proved, Matthieu Blazy's Chanel was the inspiration behind many of awards season's best looks, and feathers just so happen to be the key component.

And we cannot, of course, discuss feathers on the Oscars' red carpet without mentioning Demi Moore. In one of the most memorable looks of the night, Moore's custom Gucci was a reminder that the Oscars is all about dresses that will go down in fashion history. Styled by Brad Goreski and finished with Boucheron jewellery, her ombré green gown was an abundance of black and green feathers that were almost peacock iridescent. Could these looks be a sure sign that the red carpet is moving away for understated minimalism? Should we all be invested in feathered pieces for evening wear? Hollywood is always a place of glitz and glamour, but never is a time when this is more apparent than during the annual Academy Awards. However, for the 2026 Oscars, it wasn’t chintzy sequins, naked dresses, or bold bombshell looks that paid homage to the Golden Age of cinema that dominated the red carpet—though all of those were present—but a slew of bridal white looks.

It’s a fitting move considering an industry that’s been dominated by matrimonial discourse over the past few weeks since Law Roach dropped that bombshell alluding to the fact Zendaya and Tom Holland might’ve tied the knot. For her part, the actress did not choose to honour her possible new nuptials by wearing a white gown as she did at Louis Vuitton’s autumn/winter 2026 collection presentation during Paris Fashion Week, though she did spend the weekend that just passed at Las Vegas’ Little White Wedding Chapel promoting her upcoming A24 dark romantic comedy, The Drama.

Of course, with so many iconic movie brides to reference—Mrs. Robinson in The Graduate! Sophie in Mamma Mia!—Juliet in Love Actually—it’s only fitting that this trope gets thrust into the spotlight on film’s night of nights. Leading the charge was none other than Emma Stone, who arrived in a bespoke Louis Vuitton gown. Featuring an open back, shimmering details, and severe capped sleeves that emulate the Empire era, the two-time Best Actress winner arrived at the Dolby Theatre to mark her seventh nomination at the ceremony.

Later in the evening, Gwyneth Paltrow, who recently made her comeback to the screen as a past-her-prime actress in Marty Supreme, made an appearance to add another entry in her canon of memorable red carpet looks. But rather than wearing a blushing pink taffeta Ralph Lauren number or burgundy velvet Tom-Ford-for-Gucci suit as she did in the ‘90s, she took a far more risqué route in an ivory silk Giorgio Armani Privé gown that featured an exaggerated slit up the side.

And whilst there were plenty of more bridal white looks and pseudo wedding dresses to take note of, including Nicole Kidman, Priyanka Chopra and Mia Goth, the most breathtaking was Elle Fanning in a custom Givenchy dress designed by Sarah Burton. The strapless gown was nothing short of ethereal, with a cloud of silk taffeta following the first-time nominee as she made her way into the Dolby Theatre.

Speaking to VOGUE, Fanning revealed that the dress also held sentimental value as it was embroidered with wisteria motifs that paid tribute to the flowers that clung to her childhood home in the American South. Continuing the botanical illusion, she paired the look with a wisteria necklace from Cartier that dates back to 1903.

Last night, the stars were out in full to celebrate the 98th Academy Awards, and the Oscars red carpet was nothing short of spectacular. From show-stopping fashion looks to monochromatic makeup and gothic waves galore, there were many trends to note, but one makeup look in particular kept me up all night, desperate to share it with everyone I know.

As a makeup artist and beauty editor, I've written extensively about choosing the right eye shadow for your eye colour. Recently, I shared my favourite brown eye shadows for blue eyes, as they never fail to make them stand out. However, on last night's red carpet, Chase Infiniti wore an unexpected eye shadow colour that made her hazel eyes pop like never before.

Matching her makeup to her custom Louis Vuitton dress, the One Battle After Another actress wore lilac eye shadow as she stepped out on the red carpet, and there's no denying that this was the perfect colour to take her makeup look to the next level.

Paired with glowing skin and a simple glossy lip, the purple hue enhanced her features beautifully, and I think we can all agree that the colour complemented her hazel eyes in all the right ways.

The great thing about this look is that it's not that complicated, either. As you can see, Infiniti's makeup artist, Amber D (@amberdmakeup), focused on the inner corner of the eye (another trick to make your eye makeup pop), while also blending the purple shade all over the lid for a subtle wash of colour. She used a Louis Vuitton eye shadow for the look, from the brand's 450 Cosmic Dreams Eyeshadow Palette (£190).

If you're anything like me, you watched the Oscars red carpet like a hawk, waiting for Zendaya to arrive, only to be sorely disappointed that she was a no-show. Over three hours into the ceremony, however, Zendaya surprised everyone and strolled onto the stage to present Paul Thomas Anderson with the top directing award.

Accompanied by Robert Pattinson, her costar in The Drama, Zendaya wore a striking brown one-shouldered custom Louis Vuitton dress. It was a more low-key look than we're used to seeing on the fashion star, but it made total sense considering she was there as a presenter, not a nominee. Elegant and classic, the draped dress immediately shot to the top of my best dressed list. (Elle Fanning and Kylie Jenner also made my personal best-of roundup.) Oh, and did you notice Zendaya's diamond Rolex watch?

Zendaya finished her look with Prada Beauty makeup. “To complement Zendaya’s earth toned dress, I played up her features and complexion using smoldering browns and warm caramels,” her makeup artist Ernesto Casillas said in a statement.

When it comes to award-show glamour, I drink up every detail of the looks that make our best dressed lists. Though every event plays host to a showstopping assortment of red carpet ensembles, from the stunning gowns to the trendsetting hairstyles, the stars save their best for the Oscars, and the 2026 show is shaping up to have some of the best beauty looks I've seen in a minute.

Don't get me wrong. I love a classic updo and perfectly manicured hands. However, the one thing that sets my soul on fire is red carpet makeup—so much so that I asked my fellow beauty editors to fan-cast our favorite nominees' makeup looks for the evening. The one thing we didn't see coming was the monochrome-makeup trend that suddenly yet swiftly took center stage, and I'm simply itching to re-create these looks myself. Below, see the matchy-matchy lip and eye moments from Jessie Buckley, Emma Stone, Renate Reinsve, and more that played oh so perfectly with their Oscar-worthy gowns.

Not to toot my own horn, but I did predict Buckley's red-lip look. The Best Actress nominee matched her scarlet lips to her two-toned Chanel gown, making this look an instant classic. I theorize that the vermillion accents could be a sweet nod to her character Agnes Shakespeare's signature red frock, but that's just me.

Wunmi Mosaku's deep-sea turquoise gown caught my eye immediately, but her shimmering shadow made me stay. The Sinners star matched her sparkling custom Louis Vuitton gown with a pop of reflective teal eye shadow on the inner corners of her eyes, which happens to be one of 2026's top red carpet trends, according to our senior beauty editor Jamie Schneider's robust reporting. If you want to replicate her exact look, pick up Louis Vuitton's La Beauté LV Ombres Eyeshadow Palette in Beige Memento and Force of Nature.

According to Chase Infiniti's makeup artist, Amber Dreadon, the actress's custom Louis Vuitton dress was the ultimate source of inspiration. Dreadon describes the look as "whimsical, light, and effortlessly youthful," according to a press release, and kept skin and subtle pops of color at the center. She used the LV Ombres Eyeshadow Palette in Cosmic Dreams to craft Infiniti's soft lilac eye before accenting her pillowy pout with the LV Rouge Satin Lipstick in Kiss the Sky.

Do my eyes deceive me, or did Emma Stone match her shimmering, floor-sweeping Louis Vuitton gown with a frosted eye? According to a press release, the star's gown was hand-embroidered—which, by my logic, requires a makeup look with the same painstaking detail. The Bugonia star wears the LV Ombres Eyeshadow Palette in Beige Memento, which features an icy ivory shadow that I'd bet my next paycheck she slathered all over the eye.

Sinners' Li Jun Li has been taking the 2026 award season by storm with her extravagant red carpet looks, though I'm particularly entranced by her matching red moment tonight. Perhaps inspired by the fiery aesthetic of her heavily nominated film, the actress tied in her red Gaurav Gupta dress with cherry-colored glam, including bright-red lips and berry-hued blush.

Renate Reinsve has been dominating award season in the style category, but my eyes were on her red lip (and sculptural hip-high slit) tonight. Perfectly matching her custom Louis Vuitton gown is her matte LV lipstick in orange-red Vuittamine, which I'm adding to my cart as we speak.

A'zion's famous waves are out to play tonight, and we can't help but notice how seamlessly her naturally bouncy spirals mesh with this gothic trend. Worn loose and voluminous, her look demonstrates a curly take on this historically charged style.

Infiniti's looks—from head to toe—are always the talk of the town, and tonight is no different. The One Battle After Another star wears her sweeping tresses in goddess braids, showcasing how stunning natural hair looks with this trend. Celebrity hairstylist Coree Moreno created this sculpted braid look with a smattering of bendy waves using Bellami's Silk Seam Clip-Ins and the Arachne Smoothboost Brush for an extra touch of length and volume.

At this point, Cravalho's inky waves are basically synonymous with the Disney princess role that kick-started her career (Moana, if you live under a rock). However, the actress and singer pinned her trademark ebony waves up into a half-up, half-down style that feels very Bridgerton to us beauty editors.

Bella Thorne was the apple of our eye as walked down the carpet in a sheer black gown and moody Brontë waves. In a half-up, half-down style similar to Cravalho's, Thorne pulled out a few face-framing pieces and adorned her style with a black bow.

Greenblatt is yet another actress donning this romantic, cascading style. The Barbie alum looks extra chic in a vintage John Galliano off-the-shoulder dress, accented by her stunning, tousled waves—falling perfectly in line with the period-piece trend we've seen sweeping 2026's red carpets.

Kylie Jenner has had a busy few months, and tonight, she's bringing that momentum straight to the 2026 Oscars red carpet. The beauty mogul and budding actress (Gen Z is raving about her cameo in Charli XCX's mockumentary, The Moment) arrived at the 98th annual Academy Awards in a plunging red Schiaparelli gown that felt equal parts glamour and classic Hollywood drama, instantly making her one of the evening's most talked-about attendees before she even arrived at the Dolby Theatre.

The Devil Wears Prada premiered in 2006, and while some things never truly change (florals for spring, for instance), the style scene has experienced some tremendous shifts over the past 20 years. It all begs the question: What would the inimitable Miranda Priestly think about AI's role in media? Influencer culture? The return of cerulean? Would she even have Instagram? All your burning questions will be answered this May in the highly anticipated The Devil Wears Prada 2, but those tuning into the 98th annual Academy Awards may already have a clue about her first potential beauty partnership. In between tonight's stunning red carpet appearances and historical wins, look out for a collaboration announcement between the film and L'Oréal Paris—an ad featuring Kendall Jenner and Simone Ashley, spokeswomen for the brand, at the renowned Runway Magazine.

In the quick clip, Jenner arrives to Runway for a personal meeting with Priestly (likely to discuss a sponsorship of some sort between the global beauty behemoth and the magazine), only for her to be mistaken as a candidate for the new assistant role. "You're late. Make yourself presentable," a staffer (played by Karan Soni) says while handing her a Colour Riche red lipstick.

Jenner has been a global ambassador for L'Oréal Paris since 2023, fronting multiple makeup campaigns and walking the brand's annual Le Défilé shows during Paris Fashion Week. Recently, she starred as the face for L'Oréal Paris's $16 Extensionist Mascara, which (as the name suggests) mimics the look of lash extensions. According to WWW beauty editor Kaitlyn McLintock, the thin, buildable formula really does deliver those exceptional claims—and she has the before-and-after photos to prove it.

"It's hurting me to look at you. Just take this," Soni adds, handing Jenner the sleek silver tube. (I'm not totally sure how anyone wouldn't immediately recognize Jenner as the mega-star she is, but alas, I'm willing to suspend belief for cinema's sake. I'll admit, it would be pretty entertaining to see her work for Priestly in that capacity...)

Meryl Streep herself doesn't make an appearance in the ad, though I'm told the collaboration will include a series of activations throughout the film's rollout, so perhaps she'll have an upcoming cameo sometime soon. I can only assume Jenner and Ashley—who plays an assistant named Amari in the upcoming sequel—ducked into Priestly's office, Extensionist in hand, to cook up something spectacular for Runway. With the Academy Awards just two days away, the fashion buzz has already begun thanks to a series of glamorous pre-Oscar events. The style bar has been set high by festivities like the Vanity Fair pre-Oscar party and the Who What Wear "Carbs Before the Carpet" dinner, culminating most recently in the star-studded W Magazine x Dior dinner.

Last night at Mr. Chow's in L.A., W Magazine's editor in chief Sara Moonves and Dior's creative director Jonathan Anderson cohosted an exclusive dinner. In true Dior fashion, the A-listers' elegant attire suggested this year's Academy Awards could be the most fashionable in recent memory.

Attendees included Oscar-nominated Teyana Taylor, who wore a striking white fringe jacket with a cinched waist and voluminous gray trousers (look two from Dior's pre-fall 2026 collection). Priyanka Chopra and her husband Nick Jonas were also there; Chopra wore a white asymmetrical dress with a pearl tassel and floral embellishments (look 45 from the same collection). Actress Anya-Taylor Joy continued the clean, white theme with a semi-sheer crochet dress from the French fashion house, and completed her outfit by slicking her hair back into a bun.

While many chose classic elegance, other stylish celebrities embraced a more casual vibe, elevating denim with Dior pieces. In T-minus 48 hours, fashion's most influential names will be putting the finishing touches on their A-list clients for Hollywood's biggest night. Final fittings will be done and last-minute errands will be made, the energy no doubt abuzz with pre-carpet jitters. It's a stark contrast from our low-key pre-Oscars party on Wednesday night, where industry bigwigs came together to clink glasses and twirl pasta ahead of the weekend frenzy.

Hosted by our own Who What Wear cofounder and Future's SVP of women and luxury, Hillary Kerr, and United Talent Agency partner Dan Constable, the pasta-fueled event, in partnership with Cash App, provides space for top celebrity stylists and fashion brand executives to connect ahead of the jam-packed weekend—no award-season competition, just carbs and easy conversation. Attendees this year included Jason Bolden, Karla Welch, and Rob Zangardi, stylists known for serving up looks for Michael B. Jordan, Renate Reinsve, and Hailee Steinfeld, respectively, as well as power players from Dior, Chanel, and Loewe. Sunday's 98th Academy Awards may honor the year's best in film, but we're shifting the spotlight to the behind-the-scenes visionaries responsible for those jaw-dropping red carpet appearances. When it comes to award season, the Academy Awards—or the Oscars, for us layfolk—is the magnum opus. It’s the most important event for stars to get gussied up for in a year, apart from the Met Gala and Heidi Klum’s annual Halloween party. (The last one is my personal favorite.)

Though the Oscars promise an eve of spellbinding fashion, historical wins, and viral red carpet interviews, the thing we beauty editors most look forward to is the glam. From stunning eye shadow confections to trend-setting updos down to each delicately painted fingertip, the stars show up and out on this most revered night in entertainment. Propped up on our couches and fingers on the Getty “refresh” button, we drink up every last detail.

While we revel in the natural beauty crafted by makeup artists like Nina Park, hairstylists like Bryce Scarlett, and manicurists like Tom Bachik—all of whom will undoubtedly be booked and busy on Oscars night—everyone has their own hopes and dreams of what each star could look like when they float down that red carpet. Some people make games out of predicting their favorite nominee’s looks, while others make full social media pages dedicated to restyling their favorite celebrities. Though we love how these stars look at every event, angle, and turn, I asked our editors to play celebrity makeup artist and design their dream looks for their favorite Oscar nominees. In my eyes, Park—current makeup artist to aflame Irish actress Buckley—can do no wrong. We’ve seen the best lead actress–nominated star in everything from berry lips to bare eyes and a striking red pout, but I, a sucker for themed glam, would love to see Buckley honor her character from Hamnet with her makeup look this Sunday. Though Buckley’s Agnes Shakespeare is barefaced for the entirety of the film, her burnished red dress is a constant throughout—a physical nod to her character’s story of passion, love, and anguish.

To emulate Agnes’s simplicity and signature color in a sophisticated way, I’d paint Buckley’s lips in a similar shade to her character’s dress: a deep, warm red lip, found in the form of Merit Beauty Signature Lipstick in Vermillion. Pulling from Agnes’s mousy brown hair, I’d keep the actress’s expressive eyes bare—save for a soft, smoky wash of brown eyeliner (Victoria Beckham Beauty’s Cocoa)—and a hint of brown Chanel mascara to subtly define her eyes for the camera. (Buckley is becoming quite the Chanel girl, after all.) As our Shakespearian leading lady spends most of her time engulfed in nature, I’d add the lightest touch of “sunburn” blush to her cheeks—Rhode’s Toasted Teddy terra-cotta shade comes to mind.

"I hesitate to even attempt to mess with the perfection that is Teyana Taylor’s signature glam. That woman wears a bold wing and glossy lip like no other! I’m literally left gasping for air after every single red carpet appearance. That said, the star has played with pops of color here and there (burgundy and cobalt blue at the 2025 and 2022 Met Galas, respectively), and I would be absolutely dazzled to see a spring take for the Oscars—a purple-and-chrome moment, perhaps? Danessa Myricks’s violet eye paint and Makeup by Mario’s Master Crystal Reflector immediately come to mind, but regardless of whatever look she and makeup artist Yeika Glow decide to cook up, I know I’ll need at least three business days to recover." — Jamie Schneider, senior beauty editor

Emma Stone's Frosted Fig Glam

Bugonia is the latest Yorgos Lanthimos film to earn Stone a best-actress nomination, and I can't wait to see the look she pulls in both the beauty and fashion departments this Sunday. Though Stone's look varies from corporate chic to buzzed (and slicked in antihistamine cream) throughout this project, we're expecting full glamour from the decorated actress at the Oscars—and for this event, I'd love to see her trade her recent no-makeup makeup style for something a bit more vampy and modern, like a jammy lip and matte white eye.

Stone has attended (and won at) enough Academy Awards to have done the "classic" thing right—now, it's time for her to play up her silver-screen features in an editorial way. Accenting her wide orbs would be MAC Cosmetics' Matte Eye Shadow in Blanc Type, blended atop a pale, creamy base for the most striking pigmentation (the Pro Pot in Painterly comes to mind). I'd forgo mascara to keep the look chic, instead opting for the lightest of eyeliner flicks with a cool-toned, taupe pencil. For that juicy-fig pout, I'd swipe a generous layer of Westman Atelier's sheer, plum-tinted lipstick in the shade Onyx. Et voilà.

Elle Fanning's Dark Romance Moment

“I still think about Elle Fanning's 2024 Met Gala look at least once a week. Her high-shine complexion brought new meaning to 'glass skin,' and the subtle hints of champagne shimmer made her look ethereal, as if she were floating up the Met's iconic staircase. (Fun fact: Her glow came courtesy of L'Oréal's True Match Glumi Lotion.)

"If I switched bodies with her makeup artist, Erin Ayanian Monroe, à la Freaky Friday, I'd do another riff on it, albeit with a rich, velvety, burgundy lip. Blame it on Wuthering Heights, but I'm loving 'dark romance' makeup lately, and I think opaque, wine-colored lipstick would look striking against Fanning's bright eyes and blonde hair. Wunmi Mosaku's Fiery "Sinful" Smize

One thing about me is that I fall hard for a themed red carpet moment. Wunmi Mosaku’s Sinners is a red-hot tango of passion and fear, and I want her glam to interpret the intensity of this heavily nominated film with the elegance it deserves. Since the actress's skin is naturally glowy, I'd let her complexion do the talking and enhance the high points of her face with Westman Atelier's highlight stick for believable radiance before moving on to the eyes and lips.

Mosaku is known to love a wash of metallic color over her lids, so I'd follow suit for this supremely important event, coating them in a smoky, shimmering cloud of Victoria Beckham's Lid Lustre to make her eyes glow like smoldering embers (perfect for Sinners). Matching the film's aesthetic, I'd pair her dazzling lids with a deep red lipstick, such as Gucci's cranberry-scarlet shade Rosso Ancora. Perfectly Old Hollywood, with a touch of thematic glamour. I can't get enough.

Watch out, Freddie Freeman. Emma Stone has a world-class batting average at the Academy Awards. Of her four acting nominations, she's won twice: once for La La Land in 2017 and a second time for Poor Things in 2024. For comparison, Leonardo DiCaprio has been nominated eight times but has only won once.

I'm no movie critic, so I won't comment on whether I think she'll win Best Actress for Bugonia at the 2026 ceremony on Sunday, March 15, but I am definitely qualified to discuss her Oscars red carpet looks. In my mind, her Academy Awards style evolution can be divided into two parts: BLV and ALV (before Louis Vuitton and after Louis Vuitton). She signed a contract with the famed French house in October 2017, so 2018 was her first Oscars appearance as brand ambassador. Not coincidentally, that was the first year she threw us a fashion curveball—do you like all my baseball metaphors?—with cigarette pants and a belted blazer in lieu of a traditional red carpet gown.

She followed that up with a pair of unexpectedly sculptural LV dresses in 2019 and 2024, which were stark departures from the more conventional looks she wore earlier in her Oscars oeuvre. That said, she brought it full circle in 2025 with a sleek and sparkly nude LV gown reminiscent of her 2015 Elie Saab number and 2017 Givenchy frock.

2012

In 2012, Stone arrived at her first-ever Academy Awards wearing a red Giambattista Valli gown. The Help, in which Stone starred alongside Viola Davis and Octavia Spencer, received four Oscar nominations that year. Perhaps she was inspired by Nicole Kidman's red bow from the 2007 Oscars?

2015

Stone scored her first Oscar nomination in 2015 for her supporting role in Birdman. For the occasion, she wore a lime-green beaded dress by Elie Saab featuring a thigh-high slit and an open back.

2017

Third time's the charm. In 2017, Stone took home the Best Actress trophy for La La Land wearing a golden fringed Givenchy dress designed by Riccardo Tisci.

2018

After wearing traditional gowns to her first three Oscars appearances, she threw us for a loop in 2018 with this Louis Vuitton look, complete with skinny pants and a belted blazer. This was her first Academy Awards under her Louis Vuitton contract.

2019

By 2019, Stone's Oscars fashion message was clear: expect the unexpected. Nominated for Best Supporting Actress for The Favourite, Stone wore a sculptural, avant-garde Louis Vuitton dress with bold shoulders.

2024

Stone won Best Actress for Poor Things in 2024. Accepting her trophy, Stone infamously declared that the zipper on her peplum Louis Vuitton dress had broken.

2025

In 2025, Stone's Louis Vuitton red carpet dress harkened back to her earlier Oscars days in 2015 and 2017. Eschewing the architectural silhouettes of the previous few years, Stone opted for a sleek, simple, sparkly, champagne-colored gown with minimal jewelry.

The 97th annual Academy Awards were a night of spectacular highs, like Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande's goose bump–inducing opening performance, good old-fashioned laughs courtesy of host Conan O'Brien, and some pleasant shockers, including Anora's five wins. The fashion is what we really come for, and boy did this year's nominees and presenters deliver. Thousands of crystals. Gorgeous shades of pink. Architectural silhouettes. Archival jewelry. There was so much glamour happening on the red carpet but also adjacent to it, as producer and NBC Sports and E! Live From the Red Carpet co-host Maria Taylor served up her own eye-catching look.

With help from stylist Shiona Turini, whose client list includes Beyoncé, Taylor selected a sultry velvet Tom Ford number that perfectly highlighted her statuesque frame. The halter dress featured front and back keyhole cutouts and a thigh-high slit and was paired with Lagos jewelry, a Carolina Herrera bag, and Jimmy Choo shoes.

We asked Taylor to break down all the details for us, including the inspiration behind the look, what you have to consider for on-camera dressing, and how to execute the perfect Glambot pose.

You selected a look by Tom Ford. What about this look stood out to you among the rest and felt like "the one" for the Oscars?

This dress literally jumped off the rack. I am always drawn to black when I'm choosing a dress, but the combination of sheer and velvet paneling immediately made me fall in love. It was the first dress we tried on, and we all knew it was the one. I felt like it was made for me, from the neckline that accentuated my broad shoulders to the fact that the dress was actually long enough for my 6'2" frame. … We knew we had a winner.

Was there a specific reference or vibe you and stylist Shiona Turini were channeling for this look?

Since the majority of our show was taking place at the historic Roosevelt hotel where the very first Oscars took place in 1929, we wanted to give a nod to Old Hollywood and create a look that would give shades of Lena Horne and Dorothy Dandridge. I also explained to Shiona that I had a 14-month-old baby at home that I had breastfed for a full year, and I truly wanted to reclaim my body and feel present in it. After nearly a full year of either being a baby apartment for my son or his personal milkmaid, I just wanted to wear something that showed how proud I was of this body I inhabit.

As an on-camera red carpet host, what are some things you have to consider when deciding on a final look that is maybe different from just walking the carpet?

We have to always consider the exaggerated lighting for television, so Shiona had the tailor go in with additional fabric to line the dress to make sure that, when those bright lights hit the dress, you couldn't see through it. You always want a dress that is beautiful yet comfortable. I was broadcasting for five hours in this dress, and I still didn't want to take it off once we wrapped.

What are the beauty products that are a must for you for a big red carpet like this?

My makeup artist Pierre [Ellis Varnado] has made me a Danessa Myricks stan, so anything from her Yummy Skin collection, but I wouldn't set foot on the red carpet without the Yummy Skin Blurring Balm Powder. My lip combo will forever be MAC Chestnut lip liner and Ami Colé gloss.

You are a Glambot pro at this point. What is your secret to getting the perfect Glambot pose?

The Glambot is super fast! The key is just being confident and knowing that even the subtle movements and a fierce face can make for an incredible Glambot video.

Who do you think has been winning this award season on the red carpet?

Demi Moore. She is the epitome of what it looks like to be true to yourself and thrive as you age as a woman in Hollywood, from her trademark long black hair to the way she accentuates her body to perfection while dressing unapologetically. I can only hope that when I'm 60 I feel as good as she looks!

I love the glitz of award season—the jaw-dropping gowns, the bold beauty looks, the perfectly coiffed Old Hollywood waves.

But if I’m being honest, these grand fashion moments only hold my attention for so long. What always leaves a lasting impression? The shoes. A shoe person through and through, I treat A-list events as a crystal ball for the next big footwear trends, and this year’s Oscars red carpet didn’t disappoint. Amid the usual parade of glossy leather heels, a softer, more unexpected style quietly stole the show—a trend so compelling that I also spotted it making waves on the streets of Italy throughout the past few days of Milan Fashion Week..

Rather than the metallic leather pairs we usually see, celebrities gravitated towards something altogether more delicate: satin shoes. Subtly shimmering and effortlessly elegant, this refined shoe trend quietly enhanced the evening's best outfits.

Take Kaia Gerber, who wore a pair of Manolo Blahnik satin court shoes in a pearlescent white, complementing the ethereal layers of her flowing maxi dress without distracting from its beautiful intricacies.

Once reserved almost exclusively for brides, satin heels have been making a slow and steady return to the mainstream, no longer confined to shades of ivory and cream. Case in point: Natasha Bryant also opted for a pair of Manolo Blahnik heels, yet this time in black. She styled hers with an all-black ensemble for a striking silhouette without the starkness of glossy or patent leather.

Meanwhile, Emma Stone and Felicity Jones leaned into the trend with barely-there beige and champagne-hued pairs, their shoes blending seamlessly into the sweeping hems of their gowns.

Elsewhere in Europe, the very same shoe trend has been making waves amongst the Milanese style set. Stepping out for fashion week events, this elegant shoe emerged as one of the few silhouettes favoured across the board.

As I watched celebrities step onto the Oscars 2025 red carpet on Sunday night, one thing stood out: the near-absence of the sheer, barely-there dresses that have long dominated Hollywood’s biggest night.

For years, the Oscars has served as a stage for boundary-pushing, skin-baring fashion, with celebrities embracing diaphanous gowns that left little to the imagination. But this year, something shifted. Instead of sheer panels and transparent fabrics, the red carpets (both for the main event and the official Vanity Fair afterparty) were filled with a new kind of risqué dressing—one that leaned into structure and sensuality. Enter the "underwear dress" trend.

The nearly-naked trend isn’t gone; it has simply evolved. Where sheer dresses once ruled, the focus has now shifted to lingerie-inspired details—think corsetry, exposed bras and bodices that borrow from the world of boudoir. This shift marks a departure from overt exposure towards a more sophisticated take on sensuality.

Case in point: Monica Barbaro’s breathtaking Dior gown. Opting for a pink-and-silver dress with a high empire waistline, the A Complete Unknown star showcased a voluminous silhouette with thick box-pleat detailing and pocket cut-outs. Whilst the lower half of the dress provided full coverage, the upper portion featured a bra-inspired cut. The effect? A look that felt both daring and undeniably red-carpet worthy.

Meanwhile, Lupita Nyong’o interpreted the trend with refinement and poise. Her Chanel gown featured a chainmail bodice that cinched at the waist, whilst a pearl-embellished bust peeked through, creating a balance between opulence and playfulness that nodded to the underwear dress trend in a subtle and wearable way.

Spanning generations, this emerging trend was also picked up by young actor Josephine Reitman, who opted for a black gown featuring a sheer corset bodice—a contemporary take on the structured silhouettes of the past. The sheer detailing was present but controlled, reinforcing the idea that fashion is moving away from total transparency in favour of strategic reveals.

Whilst corset detailing and exposed bras have long played a role in red-carpet fashion, their presence hasn’t felt this dominant in years. Rather than relying on sheer fabrics alone, this trend adds a sense of intrigue through clever design choices, making it both more wearable and infinitely more interesting.

It's no secret that OPI is one of our favourite nail brands of all time. Amongst the thousands of nail colours out there, OPI has some of the most iconic shades. From Bubble Bath to Funny Bunny and Big Apple Red to Malaga Wine, they're some of the most recognised and loved nail shades around.

So, it's no surprise that we saw an OPI classic on the Oscars red carpet last night, and IMO, it's one of OPI's best nail colours out there.

We spotted this milky nail look on Este Haim, created by celebrity nail artist, Natalie Minerva who used OPI's Baby, Take A Vow. This OPI nail shade is a sheer, blushing soft pink that suits everyone. While it applies sheer, it can be layered up for a more 'milky' look, which Minerva has done here using the gel polish version (but don't worry, you can also get it in nail polish form).

On Instagram, Minerva shares, "Colors like Baby, Take a Vow are great because depending on your application you can have them be very sheer, or far more pigmented depending on how much gel you apply per layer. For Este, I was super heavy handed so this version was a bit more on the pigmented side."

Personally, I love this milky pink manicure combined with the almond nail shape and will be getting hold of the OPI nail colour to recreate this look at home. However, this versatile shade means it also look super pretty applied in a sheer coat below—it's like a tinted moisturiser for your nails that instantly makes your nails look neat, healthy and glossy.

ICYMI, Selena Gomez wore a spectacular custom Ralph Lauren dress to the 2025 Oscars, a look that was embellished with over 16,000 glass droplets and hand-sewn Rosemont crystals. As if that weren't enough sparkle, the Emilia Pérez star accessorized with diamond earrings, rings, and a stunning choker necklace. She is, quite literally, dripping in jewels—and it's clear her longtime manicurist Tom Bachik took note. Scroll ahead for all the details on Gomez's luxe "peach champagne" mani. "Peach champagne" is exactly how it sounds—a soft, warm pink with a slight shimmer. More Peach Polishes We Love

Lily-Rose Depp is the queen of retro curls. One peek at her Nosferatu press tour looks is essentially a lesson in Old Hollywood glam. For the Oscars, celebrity hairstylist Bryce Scarlett wanted to maintain the same elegant tone with an even stronger emphasis on the 1940s.

"Lily-Rose's hair look was inspired by classic Hollywood icons Veronica Lake and Lauren Bacall," Scarlett says exclusively to Who What Wear. "Veronica's soft, voluminous waves with a deep side part brought a sultry, mysterious vibe, while Lauren's sleek, polished waves conveyed confidence and elegance. The 98th Academy Awards will be held in Los Angeles on March 15. This year's nominees include Emma Stone, Elle Fanning, Teyana Taylor, and Timothée Chalamet, while presenters include Anne Hathaway, Chase Infiniti, Zoe Saldaña, Nicole Kidman, Priyanka Chopra Jonas, and more. I'm waiting with bated breath to find out which movie will win Best Picture, but I'm mostly excited to see what everyone will wear on the red carpet. I am a fashion editor and not a movie critic, after all.

Ahead of this year's ceremony, I wanted to take a walk down memory lane and revisit some of the prettiest Oscars dresses in history. This list is highly subjective, but I did my due diligence reviewing hundreds of outfits dating back decades. Just for fun, I also polled my Who What Wear coworkers to find out which dress they think is the most beautiful. Their top pick? Carey Mulligan's Balenciaga look from 2024. Thanks to her chartreuse Dior Haute Couture dress by John Galliano, all eyes were on Nicole Kidman at the 1997 Academy Awards.

Emma Stone's fringed Givenchy dress from 2017 will certainly go down in fashion history.

In 2006, Michelle Williams wowed in saffron Vera Wang.

If I had to choose just one look, it would probably be Marion Cotillard's Jean Paul Gaultier dress from 2008.

Lupita Nyong'o won her first Oscar wearing this ethereal Prada gown in 2014.

Kirsten Dunst wore a spectacular Chanel Haute Couture dress to the event in 2007.

Halle Berry's excellent Elie Saab dress from 2002 is etched into my brain.

Gwyneth Paltrow memorably wore a Ralph Lauren dress to the Oscars in 1999, the year she won Best Actress for her role in Shakespeare in Love.

My list would not be complete without mentioning Diahann Carroll's 1969 dress. Ariana Grande re-created this look at the 2026 Critics Choice Awards.

In 2024, America Ferrera wore a pink Atelier Versace gown in homage to Barbie, for which she was nominated in the supporting actress category.

Remember when Jennifer Lawrence took a tumble on the stairs en route to accepting the 2013 Best Actress award? At least her Dior gown was flawless.

Carey Mulligan's Balenciaga dress from 2024 was inspired by a gown from 1951.

Wearing this dramatic feathered Versace gown, Penélope Cruz arrived at the 2007 Academy Awards as a Best Actress nominee for Volver.

Zendaya earned a spot on my list thanks to this Armani Privé number from 2024.

Audrey Hepburn chose this charming lace dress in 1954.

Lucy Liu looked spectacular in Versace at the 2000 Academy Awards.

Greta Lee's black-and-white Loewe dress in 2024 was elegance personified.

In 2005, Hilary Swank won Best Actress for Million Dollar Baby wearing this backless Guy Laroche dress.

The Academy Awards are known for many things—for us, that's first and foremost the noteworthy fashion and beauty looks (we expect the best seeing as it's the penultimate award show of the season). Usually, the red carpet looks get the most attention. It only makes sense. After all, it's when celebrities make their first appearance of the night and the anticipation is high to see who attends and who will win the iconic gold statuette for Best Picture, Best Actress, Best Actor, and so on. But we'll let you in on a little secret: sometimes the after-parties are where it's at. Celebs tend to go even bigger and bolder than they do on the red carpet, pushing boundaries and creating looks that make us stop and stare.

This year was no exception. After the Oscars broadcast ended, celebs flooded the Vanity Fair Oscars Party red carpet with the coolest fashion and beauty looks (as beauty editors, we were partial to the latter). In case you missed it, the 96th annual Academy Awards took place last night in Los Angeles. While there were many notable moments in both the beauty and fashion arenas, there was one moment, in particular, that sparked some serious surprise all over the internet. We're talking about Vanessa Hudgens debuting a baby bump on the red carpet!

The recently married High School Musical alum appeared on the red carpet wearing a sleek, black Vera Wang dress complete with sparkling Chopard jewelry. Sure, the look was stunning, but we couldn't help but notice her glowing skin. What can we say? We're beauty editors, and a flawless complexion is our kryptonite. Celebrity makeup artist Tonya Brewer was the expert behind the look. She used the Australian "suncare meets skincare" brand Naked Sundays to dial up her glow.

"To prep Vanessa's skin I applied the CabanaGlow SPF 50 Mineral Glow Serum Drops in the shade Bronze by buffing it into the skin," Brewer said in a press release. "I love the warm. glowy, and illuminating finish this serum gives!"

Infused with SPF 30, these serum drops add sun protection to the skin while imparting a serious glow thanks to the combination of illuminating and bronzing pigments. You can apply these to bare skin, add them to your moisturizer, or pat them over the top of makeup for a natural-looking sun-kissed effect.

Brewer used this brush to blend the product into Hudgens skin for a seamless look.

Before attending the Vanity Fair Oscars Party, Hudgens changed into a shoulder-baring dress. To make sure her body was just as radiant as her face, Brewer used another Naked Sundays sunscreen that's infused with golden flecks.

If you've been on social media this morning, you'll know that the 2024 Academy Awards took place at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood last night. All the A-listers were out in force and the red carpet looks were nothing short of sensational. From America Ferrera's pink Versace number to Zendaya's dazzling Giorgio Armani Privé gown, there were certainly lots of outfits to remember.

However, as a beauty editor, my eyes were on all of the red carpet hair and makeup looks, and they definitely didn't disappoint. I spotted lots of trends from bob hairstyles to "no makeup" makeup, but it was the nails that captured my attention the most. There were lots of chic, expensive-looking manicures to lust after, but my favourite was Margot Robbie's caramel polish. In fact, after admiring her creamy, light brown manicure, I have a feeling we could be seeing this colour everywhere this spring and summer.

The star took to the red carpet in a strapless Versace dress, paired with a statement silver and gold bracelet by Fred Leighton. She kept her hair and makeup simple for the occasion, letting her outfit do all the talking. However, it was her almost delectable manicure that stole the show for me.

This nail colour is the perfect balance between a nude and a brown shade, making it super wearable for spring and summer. The tone perfectly complemented Robbie's outfit and made her nails look so expensive. If you're wondering who was behind the chic caramel mani, it was Chanel nail artist Betina Goldstein. Luckily for us, Goldstein shared all of the manicure details on her Instagram account.

Goldstein opted for an almond nail shape and used Chanel's nail polish in the shade Légende. It's no surprise that the caramel-hued polish has already sold out, as I'm sure everyone is desperate to re-create this nail look. The 98th annual Academy Awards will be held in Los Angeles on Sunday, March 15, and I have several burning questions. What will Elle Fanning wear on the red carpet? Will Emma Stone win Best Actress? With the 2024 award season underway, we're already seeing some truly *incredible* looks from film and television stars alike on the red carpet. From Hunter Schafer's ethereal Prada dress straight from the runway to Rosamund Pike's veiled look, some of the biggest names in Hollywood certainly aren't holding back.

For the latest episode of Who What Wear With Hillary Kerr, Kat Collings, WWW's editor in chief, sits down with Erin Fitzpatrick, WWW's associate director of fashion news, to discuss some of their favorite looks from the Golden Globes, Critics Choice Awards, and more. Plus, Collings and Fitzpatrick share their predictions for what film's biggest stars will wear on the biggest red carpet of award season—the Oscars.

Kat Collings: I know you attended the Golden Globes a few weeks ago, so let's do a recap of what we've seen and how you think the looks will evolve throughout the award season.

Erin Fitzpatrick: One of my favorites was Rosamund Pike at the Golden Globes. She was wearing a black lace Dior dress with a veil by Philip Treacy, who, by the way, does a lot of Kate Middleton's hats. No one wears fancy hats and headpieces more often than royals. I love that extra veil element. She's working with the stylist Leith Clark, so I'm really excited to see what else Rosamund Pike will be wearing for the Oscars in March.

I also really loved Hunter Schafer's Prada look. … It's just really smart to get the fashion points. That was a look that, on the Prada runway, people were just freaking out over it because the garment moves with any sort of breeze. It's very ethereal and lovely and is like [the] main character in its own right.

I also think Barry Keoghan from Saltburn. He wore Louis Vuitton, a red suit. He wore a pearl earring—just one earring—and a necklace and a brooch. It was the full fashion look. I think he's really somebody I'm super excited to see what he'll wear because he seems really down for anything and willing to wear "fashion with a capital F" kind of things.

The next was the Critics Choice Awards. We had Greta Lee's notable Loewe look that came straight from the S/S 24 menswear runway, actually. Then we had Ayo Edebiri's incredible suit from The Row, which I think was unanimously loved. I personally think the Golden Globes came in a little hotter, but people really came through also for the Critics Choice. Did you have any favorite looks from that carpet?

I did. I don't know if you saw Colman Domingo. He's someone who's newly on my radar. I know he was in Euphoria, but I actually haven't watched Euphoria. I'm the only one. I've been noticing him based on his style, and he's styled by Wayman + Micah—who I believe have been on the pod—and he wore this amazing gold Valentino coat thrown over his shoulders kind of like a cape. The coat had a purple lining, and he wore it with this mustard-yellow suit. It's just another example of the guys really going for it in the fashion department, and I really appreciate that.

Now that we've had a few carpets to start the year, the Grammys are the next big one right around the corner. What are we expecting to see there?

It will be a totally different set of people, obviously, because it's music and not film and TV. We'll have some crossover, like Taylor Swift and Selena Gomez, hopefully. What I'm hoping for for traffic purposes in my job is a Taylor Swift/Travis Kelce moment.

The rest of the award season, we have the SAG Awards and the big cap on it all—the Oscars. Any predictions or thoughts on what we might see there?

SAG Awards is both TV and film. The Oscars, of course, are only film, which is a little unfortunate because you think of the Oscars as the biggest of the season. But we won't get the TV stars like Ayo [Edebiri] or Elizabeth Olsen, but we will see all of them at the SAG Awards, hopefully. The Oscars are definitely the most prestigious. I Google fact-checked that it is the most watched of the award shows. When you have all those eyeballs on you, it totally makes sense that you might want to play it safe a little bit more—appeal a little more to the masses and less to the fashion crowd. The Oscars are a little bit safer looks.

Last night, the 95th annual Academy Awards took place in Los Angeles. While the red carpet looks are always jaw-dropping (after all, this is the final and most formal ceremony of award season), the after-party looks are just as good… if not better. That's why, each year, we wait with bated breath to see celebrities arrive at the Vanity Fair after-party. We can't wait to see which beauty trends they embrace and, just as importantly, which ones they don't. 

One of the standouts this year was Hailey Bieber. Her hair was done by celebrity hairstylist Bryce Scarlett, whose clients include Margot Robbie and Brie Larson. Her freshly cut chin-grazing bob was styled in soft waves, with one side tucked elegantly behind her ear. We love the style, but can we talk about the shine? Bieber's hair had a glossy luster that made us desperate for details. Luckily, we got them. Before we dive into the product details, here's another look at Bieber's lustrous hair. Her strands have a shiny, light-reflective quality from roots to ends. This style was the perfect complement to her black floor-length Saint Laurent gown. 

While Bieber's Saint Laurent gown isn't something we'd classify as affordable, her styling products are. Scarlett used only three products to style her hair. They're all from John Frieda, and they're all $12 and under. You know a budget-friendly product is good when it's used at such a prestigious event like this. 

Scarlett started with clean, wet hair. He applied this Vibrant Shine 3-in-1 Shine Spray throughout her hair. Not only does it add a lustrous, Oscars-worthy shine, but it also offers detangling benefits and heat protection up to 450°. It's vegan and cruelty-free and uses argan oil as its star ingredient.

Once the shine spray was spritzed throughout Bieber's hair, he used a hair dryer to give her a blowout. He used a boar-bristle brush, created a middle part, and was careful not to give her too much volume. After all, this look was all about being shiny and sleek. 

After the blowout, he softly wrapped her hair around a one-inch curling iron for subtle waves. Then, he used a flat iron to soften some pieces and create different textures. Next, he applied a dime-sized amount of this cream throughout her hair to smooth flyaways and add more shine. 

As the finishing touch, Scarlett spritzed this hair spray throughout her hair so the style would hold all night. It's a firm-hold formula that provides humidity resistance and even more shine. With just three drugstore styling products, plus a couple of heat tools, Scarlett created a sleek, glossy look. It's proof that red carpet hair isn't synonymous with expensive styling products.

Hair is more than just hair. It can tell a story. And hairstylist Adir Abergel is a master at the craft. Some of the world's most famous faces have sat in his chair, including Jennifer Garner, Anne Hathaway, Charlize Theron, Nicole Kidman, Reese Witherspoon, and Kristen Stewart, who he has worked with since she was 15 (yes, during the Twilight days). Much of his talent and wizardry has been seen on the red carpet, especially at the Oscars, where he created hairstyles for around 20 Oscar-nominated women over his career.

Abergel is also the creative director for the biotech haircare brand Virtue Labs, where he helps with product development and innovation. Read on to learn about the evolution of his work with Stewart, his must-have styling product, and how he was able to create one of his client's favorite looks ever, even after his kit was lost while traveling. You and Stewart have done so many incredible red carpet moments together. Can you tell me about some of your all-time favorite moments or favorite looks?

It's funny because there are so many evolutions that I love. Twilight-time Kristen was all about her hair being long and beautiful, warm, chocolatey brown… kind of undone. At a time when everyone in Hollywood was doing Hollywood glamour, we were doing almost like this deconstructed, effortless… Kristen is from California, so there was just this easiness to the way that we used to do her hair, and it used to drive everyone crazy, because they were like, "Can you wash your hair?" And I was like, "No, I love celebrating this part of her." So I was obsessed with that era. Then, there was the era when we basically would go—and I'm not kidding you���take garden scissors and a razor and take out half the hair off her head, shave the sides off, bleach it out, and keep it completely punk and almost like early '60s Chelsea girl. Just really rebellious-feeling kind of hair. And then there was, of course, the complete shaving of the head. During this last tour, we sat down together and pulled all of these images of Nastassja Kinski where it was all of this beautiful, luxurious, thick-looking hair. I cut her hair into a bob, and it was one length, and all of her hair had grown out, and it wasn't chopped anymore. We took it into this beautiful strawberry off-blonde color. I would say there are these four quadrants that I've loved during those periods. So it's not a particular look, but it's a particular feel that I enjoyed creating with her.

I would love to talk about the fact that sometimes you have these moments that are super last minute, like cutting Saoirse [Ronan's] bangs the day of, and then in other times, there's planning ahead, and you have this idea that goes all the way to fruition. I'm wondering if you could tell me about a "happened right before walking out the door" moment that you love.

Okay, a moment that did not go as planned was when Jessica Biel and I were on a plane to Europe. We were all doing really well until we landed. … We needed to get from Heathrow to the hotel, and she had an hour and 20 minutes to get ready. My bags do not show up. No kit for this press tour. We get to the hotel, and I don't want to get her all riled up. So I'm thinking in my head, "Okay, dear. What can you do? What can you do? How is this gonna work?" So I literally told the publicist, "Did you bring any hair spray?" She was like, "I have hair spray." I was like, "Wonderful," then I asked the makeup artist, "Do you happen to have a round brush?" She was like, "I don't have a round brush, but I have a face brush." I was like, "Great. Give it to me." I called downstairs, and I was like, "Can you have a blow-dryer ready for me and some foil paper?" So they had foils from the kitchen. I said, "Can you also please have water for me and salt and a bottle of champagne?" I got to the room. I took the champagne, and I ended up using the champagne as a volumizer on the roots. I ended up using the salt with purifying water. I sprayed it everywhere to create texture in the hair. I then took the foils. I twisted them into sections. I wrap the hair around that. And then I use the blow-dryer to heat that. And at the end, she had the most beautiful curls you can imagine. We got it done perfectly, perfectly in time. And it's one of Jessica's favorite looks we've ever created.

Is there a product that is your go-to in styling for the red carpet?

Oh, straight up, I do not start hair without using volumizer on the roots. I created a volumizing spray called Volumizing Primer, and it was based off of 1950s/1960s setting lotion, but in a very modern way so it doesn't weigh down your hair. The problem is that we're all scared of putting a lot of product in our hair because we think that it's going to be too much. Well, with the volumizing primer, you have to use literally 25 pumps because it's incredibly lightweight. So [this is] what I would do if you have an issue with wanting to create more volume or even if you have volume but are trying to create memory: use it on your roots nonstop, saturate the roots, air-dry it, and then do your blowout. Air-dry, like almost 80%, and then use a round brush. And you're going to get memory, and that blowout is going to last for seven more days than you need to. You should probably wash your hair before that, but whatever. 

I'm thinking about someone like Kristen, and then someone like Nicole Kidman, and the two of them both have texture, but it's extremely different. Could you tell us a little bit about how you think about styling hair that is so different? What sort of key products or techniques get the desired effect?

The first part of hair that you really want to tackle is the health of it, and getting your hair healthy enough that there is enough elasticity and enough moisture in the hair. Because when you remove all of the moisture, and when you remove the elasticity and if you over bleach it too quickly, and you blow up that cuticle, or you haven't gotten your hair cut enough, what happens is that you end up not getting the most out of your hair. It's kind of like working out, right. If you work out, you're going to get the most out of your body. If you're going to eat healthy, you're going to get the most out of it. And I think that hair has not gotten the same love that we give to our face, we will wash our face, we will put a mask on it. We will use a NuFace or a ZIIP on it, we will go and get facials, but we rarely do that for our hair. And I really believe that we should treat our hair the same way that we treat our face. So that's where it starts. And then it's really approaching it in a way of understanding your hair and not always fighting it.

I feel like pretty much everyone has that moment, like the straight-haired girls want curly hair, the curly girls want straight hair. Just like love on your real texture.

Yes, and celebrate your real texture and then enhance it with the right things. If you have super curly hair like Nicole does, you tend to want to use hydrators first. So, things that are going to hydrate the hair, give it shine, and give it more elasticity and then you're going to want to use a blow dryer. The secret with blow drying is tugging on it, but it's not the heat. It's letting it cool down. The cooldown is when you get everything to kind of stay in there, create the shine, create the movement, create the bounce, create the reflection in the hair. That's incredibly important, flattening the cuticle and then letting the cuticle cool down before you take it out. Someone like Kristen, who has wavy hair, but tends to need a good foundation at her roots—it's all about building the right architecture, the right foundation. So it's about using a volumizer on her root, and creating some memory there. It lifts, it holds, and then the rest of your hair can dance.

Zendaya's £2 Hair Spray

We were amazed to spy that hairstylist Antoinette (aka @hairbyantoinettenyc) used Tresemmé hair spray to fix Zendaya's updo.

Sharing how she created Zendaya’s swept-up hair of dreams on Instagram, Antoinette said: "I sprayed @tresemme’s One Step Volume Mist at the roots as I dried with @t3micro’s AireBrush Duo with the round brush attachment to create volume. After attaching the clip-ins [extensions], I secured the hair with a soft elastic and hair pin in the back. To complete the look, I pinched out tendrils around the perimeter and finished with the TRESemmé Total Volume Spray for an all-day hold.”

H.E.R.'s £15 Foundation

Makeup artist Marissa Vossen detailed the full list of products used on H.E.R. on Instagram, which were all L'Oréal Paris. To create her luminous complexion, she used L'Oréal Paris True Match Nude Plumping Tinted Serum in shade 7-8 Tan Deep to create H.E.R.'s glowing base.

Maddie Ziegler's £14 Nail Varnish

Maddie Ziegler wore the perfect red nail colour—a timeless mainstay for the red carpet. Manicurist Thuy Nguyen opted for OPI's We the Female shade. "Tonight's Oscar nails for Maddie is very classic and very Hollywood," she said on Instagram. "I used OPI's We The Female to execute this look."

Lupita Nyong'o's £13 Styling Spray

Hairstylist Vernon François used Matrix products to create Lupita's look. "It is a sisterlocks updo with a soft, graceful, glamorous feel influenced by what Lupita is wearing and the occasion," he said. One of the key products used was Matrix Miracle Creator, a multiple-purpose spray that primes the hair for styling.

Just when you think you've scrolled through every last photo from Oscars weekend—including red carpet dresses, beauty looks, and after-party outfits—there's still more fashion greatness to uncover. Next, the Oscars after-party outfits that rival the red carpet. 

Zendaya has become one of the most highly anticipated celebrities at red carpet events, and this year's Oscars were no different. She and stylist Law Roach have become one of fashion's favorite duos, providing us with stunning, bar-raising red carpet looks. Tonight, Zendaya decided to ditch the traditional long-gown style and wear a crop top and metallic skirt by Valentino. She can pull off virtually anything, but this look is especially gorgeous. The top is a cropped silk dress shirt with a classic collar and button-down detailing, and the hem is cut in a way that gives us a peek at Zendaya's midsection. Paired with it were a floor-length silver skirt and a silver bracelet wrapped around her arm. The metallic skirt added the perfect touch of Hollywood glam and elevated the whole ensemble. 

Zendaya could write the book on how to look chic, elevated, youthful, and glamorous all at the same time. The Dune actress has had an amazing year so far, on-screen and with her fashion moments. This crop-top-and-skirt look is definitely going to be on a best dressed list.
