If you haven't yet tuned in to the beauty and fashion feast that is the 2026 Met Gala, I officially welcome you to the party—virtually speaking, of course. This year's attendees are truly jaw-dropping (just take it from our live blog, which features real-time editor reactions), so much so that it's difficult to pick just one favorite red carpet look. Being the eager beauty editor I am, I also must call out the swoon-worthy makeup and hair, from Zoë Kravitz to Doja Cat to Nicole Kidman. I want to re-create them all!

Luckily, I just received insider intel on the latter. According to her longtime hairstylist Adir Abergel, Kidman and her daughter Sunday Rose stepped on the carpet donning 60 centimeters of extensions each (ahem, 120 centimeters total). "For Nicole and Sunday’s first Met Gala together, I wanted to create a meaningful connection for this special moment," Abergel says in a news release. "Hair became a subtle yet beautiful unifying thread, tying their looks together through a shared expression of modern elegance." Both looks are sleek and middle-parted, but when you gaze at them up close, you'll notice some low-key differences. Nicole's style, of course, featured eyelash-kissing fringe, while Sunday's long locks have a slight bend.

Abergel first brushed out Nicole's towel-dried hair using a Denman D38 Detangling Brush (his favorite), then prepped the strands with Virtue's Damage Reverse Serum and a few pumps of the brand's Healing Oil. "I began by blow-drying with a Denman paddle and Shark Beauty FlexStyle Air Styling & Drying System to get the bangs to sweep perfectly and create just the right amount of shine and polish to the hair," he notes.

Then came the extensions—namely, BHBD's 60-centimeter extensions in the shade 9NG/11N, which he says perfectly matched Nicole's color and texture. "To finish the look, I warmed a few drops of Virtue’s Healing Oil between my hands, gently tilted her head, and smoothed it through her long, golden locks for an added veil of luster and shine," he adds.

Sunday's style followed a similar lineup, only Abergel raked Virtue's 6-in-1 Styler through her locks and added a bit of Volumizing Primer at the roots before blow-drying. "This is a great base to create a strong and healthy foundation that will last all night," he shares. He used the same brush and Shark blow-dryer for a smooth, straight finish, then added BHBD extensions in the shades 5NG/6NG.

Then, instead of leaving her strands stick-straight, "I coiled some hair around my fingers and applied heat with the Shark Beauty FlexStyle to create an uneven slight bend throughout," Abergel explains. A touch of Healing Oil to seal in the shine, and there you have it—a stunning, Rapunzel-like hairstyle worthy of the 17-year-old's first Met. "The result was reflective and full of movement," Abergel adds. It was also, dare I say, a work of art.

Sophie in Mamma Mia!—Juliet in Love Actually—it’s only fitting that this trope gets thrust into the spotlight on film’s night of nights. Leading the charge was none other than Emma Stone, who arrived in a bespoke Louis Vuitton gown. The 98th Academy Awards will be held in Los Angeles on March 15. When Zendaya asked Nicole Kidman why she wanted to work on her latest project, Babygirl, during their Variety Actors on Actors interview, Kidman's answer was simple and very easy to turn into a meme: "As soon as I heard it was called Babygirl, I'm like, 'Yeah, I want to be the babygirl,'" she said. Just in case she didn't become the babygirl enough in the film, she sure did on the red carpet at the 2025 Golden Globes, where her completely backless and rhinestone-covered gown fit the nickname.

For the 82nd annual Golden Globe Awards, Kidman and her stylist Jason Bolden worked with Balenciaga to create a custom one-shoulder gown made of crystal- and rhinestone-embroidered mesh, according to the French fashion house. The dress was based on look 55 from Balenciaga's fall 2023 haute couture collection, which was purple, as opposed to Kidman's iridescent silver look. With it, she wore a pair of cream satin pumps also by Balenciaga and a bevy of jewelry items by Boucheron, including diamond-and-tanzanite drop earrings and a 4.10-carat diamond ring.

Kidman was photographed catching a flight out of Sydney last week wearing a polished yet relaxed outfit that's ideal for a long flight. With her chic collared cardigan and white sneakers, Kidman opted for a pair of wide-leg, cuffed jeans. This denim trend was a great choice, as you can wear the jeans cuffed or uncuffed for a completely different look. Given that she styled them with sneakers, Kidman's choice to wear them cuffed was a smart one.

It's official: Powder pink is the biggest color trend for 2025. If the onslaught of cool, frothy-pink pieces on spring 2025 runways (Miu Miu, Alaïa, Khaite, et al.) has yet to convince you to hop on the romantic bandwagon, perhaps Nicole Kidman's latest look will make you a believer. Just last week on December 11, the actress arrived at the Babygirl premiere wearing a petal-pink custom Balenciaga gown and a full face of "English rose" makeup—an aesthetic that's basically the playbook for elegant, soft beauty. Below, discover the full breakdown from Kidman's makeup artist, Kate Synnott.

1. Create Your Base

A fresh, dewy base is essential for English rose makeup. (Imagine a rose petal glistening with morning dew—that's your goal.) Synnott first preps Kidman's skin with Beauty Pie's Superluminous Skin Glow Filter Tinted Hyaluronic Complexion Brightener, noting how it "really enhances the skin with a creamy shine" both in person and on the red carpet. "I like to keep it to the highest points of the face, like the cheekbones, bridge of nose, and brow bone—not too much around the T-zone, as I don’t want that part of the skin super shiny," she adds.

She grabs the Luminous Mineral Skin Tint Broad-Spectrum SPF 40 Sunscreen for some allover coverage, then spot-conceals with the Everyday Great Skin Hyaluronic Blur Concealer. (Kidman is shade 100 Ivory.)

2. Contour and Highlight

Synnott then sculpts Kidman's features with the Quick Colour Contour Supergel in shade Light, which provides a snatched yet natural-looking finish. "The Triple Beauty Luminizing Highlighter Wand gives the perfect red carpet glow," adds Synnott. "I used it on the cheek bones, bridge of the nose, and the brow bone."

3. Define the Brows

Next up: brows. Synnott draws hairlike strokes on Kidman's arches using the Superbrow Luxe Precision Pencil, a fine-tipped product that fills out sparse areas with precision. "Then I used Arch-Ology Tinted Eyebrow Sculpting Gel to set the brows in place while giving them natural volume and definition," she says.

4. Create Soft, Powder-Pink Eyes

Here's where the trending color story comes into play! Synnott applies Beauty Pie's Wondercolour Longwear Cream Eyeshadow Stick in the shade Pink Velvet all over Kidman's lids, blending up into the crease. The matte, cool-toned pink shade provides enough definition to the eyes without looking like you're wearing a ton of makeup. She then draws a thin, lifted line of Deluxe Precision Liquid Eyeliner in Black Cat before topping off the eye look with an inky-black tubing mascara.

5. Add a Pop of Cream Blush

To nail that feminine, classic English aesthetic, Synnott swirls a pink, glowy cream blush on the cheekbones—namely, Beauty Pie's Supercheek Cream Blush in shade Universal Pink (a bright bubblegum number). "This blush is super blendable, with a pillowy texture that melts into your skin. I love how it makes the skin look super natural and bright," she explains.

6. Apply a Pillowy, Pink Lip

"Futurelipstick Luxe Shine in shade Naked Pink was the hero product of this look. It is such wearable baby-pink lipstick that stays on and really lasts," says Synnott. The cheeks and lips are arguably the most important features when it comes to "English rose" makeup, so be sure to grab dewy, shine-enhancing products that make your skin and lips look petal-soft. Nicole Kidman shut the red carpet down at the Venice Film Festival last week, but it was one of her outfits off the carpet that grabbed my attention. It contained a trend that could actually dictate future purchases more than her red carpet gown, as stunning as it was.

Kidman was photographed outside of the airport in Venice wearing the perfect travel outfit: a white T-shirt, flared jeans, and white sneakers. Instead of an oversize blazer—the previous blazer trend of choice—Kidman opted for a fitted-waist blazer. I can't stop thinking about Nicole Kidman's voluminous waves at the 2024 Venice Film Festival. To be fair, her entire look has been living rent-free in my brain (that Schiaparelli gown!), but her glam especially has me swooning. As Kidman stepped foot on the red carpet ahead of the Babygirl premiere, her strawberry blonde tresses looked effortlessly fluffy—like she just so happened to wake up with flawless waves. Adir Abergel, Kidman's longtime hairstylist, dubs the creation "big sexy hair" with an emphasis on sky-high volume that appears minimal yet lasts all day. I might have watched his Instagram Reel upward of 16 times, and I might have done a little sleuthing to find out exactly what products he used.

It turns out he relied on a specific hair-thickening treatment to achieve Kidman's swoon-worthy waves. Below, find Abergel's entire "big sexy hair" tutorial from start to finish.

Once Kidman's hair was adequately prepped, Abergel parted her hair in the center and blow-dried with a large round brush for extra volume. Once he finished each section, he pin-curled it and let it cool completely, only unraveling once Kidman's entire mane was fully dried.

Next, Abergel grabbed a two-inch curling iron and wrapped it around big sections of hair; this technique creates those signature loose bends he's known for. Once Kidman's full head was curled, he gave it a spritz with a light-hold hair spray.

The Paris Olympics has been quite the showcase of celebrity style (it's in Paris, after all), and Nicole Kidman is one of the celebs we've had our eye on outside of the events this week. The 98th annual Academy Awards will be held in Los Angeles on Sunday, March 15, and I have several burning questions. What will Elle Fanning wear on the red carpet? Will Emma Stone win Best Actress? I'll admit that I never thought the day would come that Nicole Kidman and Bella Hadid would be spotted just hours apart wearing almost the same outfit. Then again, I didn't expect the Big Little Lies star to make her runway debut at Balenciaga's fall 2022 Couture show either, so what do I know? 

It was the show that brought Kidman and Hadid together in Paris, where they seemed to coordinate outfits for the night-before fitting (Kidman) and the post-show exit (Hadid). The unexpected duo donned Balenciaga's now-iconic bug-eye sunglasses, basic tops—Kidman chose a long-sleeve black bodysuit, and Hadid wore a cropped white tee paired with a black track jacket—ultra-baggy denim, and point-toe heels. Much of his talent and wizardry has been seen on the red carpet, especially at the Oscars, where he created hairstyles for around 20 Oscar-nominated women over his career.

Abergel is also the creative director for the biotech haircare brand Virtue Labs, where he helps with product development and innovation. You and Stewart have done so many incredible red carpet moments together. Can you tell me about some of your all-time favorite moments or favorite looks?

It's funny because there are so many evolutions that I love. Twilight-time Kristen was all about her hair being long and beautiful, warm, chocolatey brown… kind of undone. At a time when everyone in Hollywood was doing Hollywood glamour, we were doing almost like this deconstructed, effortless… Kristen is from California, so there was just this easiness to the way that we used to do her hair, and it used to drive everyone crazy, because they were like, "Can you wash your hair?" And I was like, "No, I love celebrating this part of her." So I was obsessed with that era. Then, there was the era when we basically would go—and I'm not kidding you���take garden scissors and a razor and take out half the hair off her head, shave the sides off, bleach it out, and keep it completely punk and almost like early '60s Chelsea girl. Just really rebellious-feeling kind of hair. And then there was, of course, the complete shaving of the head. During this last tour, we sat down together and pulled all of these images of Nastassja Kinski where it was all of this beautiful, luxurious, thick-looking hair. I cut her hair into a bob, and it was one length, and all of her hair had grown out, and it wasn't chopped anymore. We took it into this beautiful strawberry off-blonde color. I would say there are these four quadrants that I've loved during those periods. So it's not a particular look, but it's a particular feel that I enjoyed creating with her.

I would love to talk about the fact that sometimes you have these moments that are super last minute, like cutting Saoirse [Ronan's] bangs the day of, and then in other times, there's planning ahead, and you have this idea that goes all the way to fruition. I'm wondering if you could tell me about a "happened right before walking out the door" moment that you love.

Okay, a moment that did not go as planned was when Jessica Biel and I were on a plane to Europe. We were all doing really well until we landed. … We needed to get from Heathrow to the hotel, and she had an hour and 20 minutes to get ready. My bags do not show up. No kit for this press tour. We get to the hotel, and I don't want to get her all riled up. So I'm thinking in my head, "Okay, dear. What can you do? What can you do? How is this gonna work?" So I literally told the publicist, "Did you bring any hair spray?" She was like, "I have hair spray." I was like, "Wonderful," then I asked the makeup artist, "Do you happen to have a round brush?" She was like, "I don't have a round brush, but I have a face brush." I was like, "Great. Give it to me." I called downstairs, and I was like, "Can you have a blow-dryer ready for me and some foil paper?" So they had foils from the kitchen. I said, "Can you also please have water for me and salt and a bottle of champagne?" I got to the room. I took the champagne, and I ended up using the champagne as a volumizer on the roots. I ended up using the salt with purifying water. I sprayed it everywhere to create texture in the hair. I then took the foils. I twisted them into sections. I wrap the hair around that. And then I use the blow-dryer to heat that. And at the end, she had the most beautiful curls you can imagine. We got it done perfectly, perfectly in time. And it's one of Jessica's favorite looks we've ever created.

Is there a product that is your go-to in styling for the red carpet?

Oh, straight up, I do not start hair without using volumizer on the roots. I created a volumizing spray called Volumizing Primer, and it was based off of 1950s/1960s setting lotion, but in a very modern way so it doesn't weigh down your hair. The problem is that we're all scared of putting a lot of product in our hair because we think that it's going to be too much. Well, with the volumizing primer, you have to use literally 25 pumps because it's incredibly lightweight. So [this is] what I would do if you have an issue with wanting to create more volume or even if you have volume but are trying to create memory: use it on your roots nonstop, saturate the roots, air-dry it, and then do your blowout. Air-dry, like almost 80%, and then use a round brush. And you're going to get memory, and that blowout is going to last for seven more days than you need to. You should probably wash your hair before that, but whatever. 

I'm thinking about someone like Kristen, and then someone like Nicole Kidman, and the two of them both have texture, but it's extremely different. Could you tell us a little bit about how you think about styling hair that is so different? What sort of key products or techniques get the desired effect?

The first part of hair that you really want to tackle is the health of it, and getting your hair healthy enough that there is enough elasticity and enough moisture in the hair. Because when you remove all of the moisture, and when you remove the elasticity and if you over bleach it too quickly, and you blow up that cuticle, or you haven't gotten your hair cut enough, what happens is that you end up not getting the most out of your hair. It's kind of like working out, right. If you work out, you're going to get the most out of your body. If you're going to eat healthy, you're going to get the most out of it. And I think that hair has not gotten the same love that we give to our face, we will wash our face, we will put a mask on it. We will use a NuFace or a ZIIP on it, we will go and get facials, but we rarely do that for our hair. And I really believe that we should treat our hair the same way that we treat our face. So that's where it starts. And then it's really approaching it in a way of understanding your hair and not always fighting it.

I feel like pretty much everyone has that moment, like the straight-haired girls want curly hair, the curly girls want straight hair. Just like love on your real texture.

Yes, and celebrate your real texture and then enhance it with the right things. If you have super curly hair like Nicole does, you tend to want to use hydrators first. So, things that are going to hydrate the hair, give it shine, and give it more elasticity and then you're going to want to use a blow dryer. The secret with blow drying is tugging on it, but it's not the heat. It's letting it cool down. The cooldown is when you get everything to kind of stay in there, create the shine, create the movement, create the bounce, create the reflection in the hair. That's incredibly important, flattening the cuticle and then letting the cuticle cool down before you take it out. Someone like Kristen, who has wavy hair, but tends to need a good foundation at her roots—it's all about building the right architecture, the right foundation. So it's about using a volumizer on her root, and creating some memory there. It lifts, it holds, and then the rest of your hair can dance.

In the year 2021, "How are you?” is a loaded question. How are you? How are you? Does anyone really want to know the truth? 

And yet, this is, predictably, how my Zoom conversation begins with 24-year-old Grace Van Patten as we rush through introductions on-screen, maintaining a very safe social distance in our respective Brooklyn apartments. Wearing a white tank top and a mix of chunky and delicate gold jewelry (she describes her personal style as "Saturday Night Fever mixed with Urban Cowboy—basically every ’70s John Travolta movie”), Van Patten projects the vibe of the typical 20-something Brooklynite: confident, contemplative, and a bit confined. After she filmed the sensational summer miniseries 9 Perfect Strangers last winter in Byron Bay, Australia, it’s safe to say that the native-born New Yorker is back in her element. But that doesn’t stave off a bit of pandemic-induced wanderlust.

Now streaming on Hulu, 9 Perfect Strangers is the follow-up project to the Nicole Kidman–produced Big Little Lies. Both shows, adapted from books by Aussie novelist Liane Moriarty, revolve around what it means to carry secrets, unscrupulously wield power, and actually be at peace. When Kidman’s character, Guru Masha, asks, "How are you?” she already knows the answer: not great, obviously. That’s why these nine perfect strangers have come to her wellness retreat, Tranquillum House.

So what exactly is the college kid doing there? That was my second question for Van Patten, who plays Zoe Marconi, the youngest guest on the retreat and the only character who seems, well, relatively fine. Unlike the other girls of summer 2021 (see: Sydney Sweeney’s character in The White Lotus and the entire cast of Gossip Girl 2.0), Zoe isn’t struggling with the typical teen angst, young adult ennui, or substance-abuse problems. Van Patten, however, saw the potential in this quieter portrayal even before she auditioned for the role. "I was hooked right away by the couple sentence plotline explaining the show,” she remembers. "Just reading Zoe’s character blurb, I thought, ‘Wow, this is such a dynamic, deep, and complicated role.’ … You don’t come across that much with female roles, so I was excited and curious to see where it went.” Believe me—it goes there. 

While all of the guests at Tranquillum House are uniquely flawed, the hodgepodge of talent, including Melissa McCarthy, Bobby Cannavale, and Samara Weaving, banded together to become not only a COVID-safe pod but also a microcosm of their on-screen experience. "There’s a line in the show where I say that no one has really treated me like a person the past few years. They treated me like a victim and a patient, but not a person,” explains Van Patten. "I thought that was so sweet and devastating… but also so beautiful that [Zoe] met all these people she felt comfortable with and was able to open up to.” Notably, she describes working with her castmates as both a "master class” and a "total dream,” which was a bonus while filming so far from home and in isolation. 

This sense of kinship among the characters in 9 Perfect Strangers and the actors mirrors Van Patten’s experience coming of age in the bustling halls of Fiorello H. LaGuardia High School of Music & Art and Performing Arts in Manhattan, a decidedly less tranquil atmosphere. In addition to being the inspiration behind the 1980s musical Fame, the school’s notable alumni also include Timotheé Chalamet, Nicki Minaj, and Ansel Elgort, who actually introduced Van Patten to her manager. "I’m excited when I hear about LaGuardia alumni doing great things; it makes me so happy because it was such a supportive community,” she shares. With guest roles on The Sopranos at age 10 and Boardwalk Empire under her belt before graduation, Van Patten admits she had caught the acting bug early but wasn’t sure if she wanted to pursue it as a career. "I feel so lucky to have gone to LaGuardia because I had been so passionate about acting before, but this really sealed the deal and gave me a lot of experience.” 

Despite (or perhaps because of) her support network, Van Patten is still figuring out who she is as a person as well as an actor. Her repertoire already spans genres (she’s done comedy, thrillers, and live theater), but her passion is in character studies. In fact, part of her preparation for 9 Perfect Strangers was reading the novel with several of her high school classmates. "It was so fun to have the book club with [my friends] and talk about it. Honestly, just being able to talk about Zoe and dive deep into her headspace helped me get into the role,” she explains. "Our hearts broke for the Marconis, and then at times, we were laughing out loud. It just provided so many different emotions, which I loved.” Fortunately, the book club has a great excuse for a reunion. The script deviates from the source material, incorporating its own twists and turns up until the finale on September 22. 

Before we exit the chat, I have to ask Van Patten another cringe-worthy question (after all, this is a show about mental health in the year 2021): "So Grace, do you have a wellness routine or particular practice?” Van Patten doesn’t miss a beat, quipping that if Nicole Kidman was actually a guru, she could be convinced to become a follower. "The first time I met Nicole was right before we shot the first scene [at Tranquillum],” she recalls. "It was exactly how it was described in the script. I got chills. I was so mesmerized by her presence, and I was like, ‘Whatever you say' automatically.” But in reality, Van Patten is confidently pursuing her own path. In addition to taking long walks in Brooklyn, doing hot yoga, and cooking at home, she’s a self-proclaimed skincare obsessive. "I had a [face] mask on before this—I almost signed on wearing it—offline, you will always catch me in a mask,” she divulges. Today’s treatment of choice? Osea’s White Algae Mask, which, incidentally, promises a visibly brighter complexion—perfect for a day of Zoom interviews. 

With a blockbuster miniseries streaming through the dog days of summer, ample skincare products at her disposal, and an upcoming drama series in pre-production, it’s safe to say we’ve got our answer: Grace Van Patten is doing very well, thank you.

Classic and sophisticated are two words that come to mind when describing Nicole Kidman's style.
