New York Fashion Week is usually packed with people wearing the latest designer pieces, from Prada to Chanel, and this season was hardly an exception to that rule—in all but one category, that is. Every other season, a mix of luxury sunglasses brands was represented, with prices ranging from $300 to $800. This time, though, I only took notice of one pair. Funnily enough, I was wearing the style, too, and have been for about four months now. I packed other options but only ended up wearing this pair. No deviations—not once.

The sunglasses in question? Ray-Ban Wayfarers, the Levi's 501 of eyewear. They're classic and somehow complement everyone's face shape, and at $191, they won't break the bank or devastate you if, after a year or two, you leave your pair in a restaurant booth or forget them in a hotel-room bathroom. Ray-Ban's iconic Wayfarer shape goes through highs and lows among fashion people, like any other timeless style item, but it always comes back around. Wearers are consistently drawn to its effortless appeal and ease of purchase. Sure, there's a thrill in buying something hard to find or somehow exclusive, but it gets old quickly. In a bind, I'd much rather be able to walk into Nordstrom or Sunglass Hut and buy my favorite pair of sunglasses.

Clearly, others agree. I saw the pair on my fellow Who What Wear editors, Kristen Nichols and Anna LaPlaca, as well as Vogue writer Maddie Schulz. Influencers ditched their usual designer shades for the timeless staple too, styling them down with a black top and jeans or up with a knee-length skirt and kitten heels. Outside of fashion week, they're just as versatile, whether paired with workout clothes or a date-night dress. Personally, I think a pair belongs in everyone's wardrobe.

Fashion week outfit planning sounds glamorous until you're mapping out show times, dinner reservations, and however many blocks stand between them. I stopped trying to plan a full month of press-worthy looks years ago and started building around a handful of pieces I actually trust to work all day into the night.

This season's diary is a mix of matching sets I could throw on half asleep, items I could style in dozens of ways, and the boots that saved me more than once. Scroll through everything I wore below and see where to shop each piece so you can build out the fall wardrobe of your dreams.

I love a matching set, especially when the pieces look just as fabulous as separates. Here we have stripes in a color I actually wear that read a lot more grown-up than the black-and-white version I default to every other season. This might be the most "me" outfit of the whole week.

Can you tell I like matching sets? They're my fail-safe for the days when I have no idea what the schedule actually holds. The bandana print meant I didn't have to think about accessories beyond the one bag I wore probably too many times this week.

Here's another matching set that solves the "getting dressed in a rush" problem better than almost anything else I own. This one photographs like an outfit I spent an hour on, and it took me about four minutes.

I layered what I'm calling the "It jacket of the season that gets the fashion crowd buzzing" (anything with frog fasteners) over this dress because they just had to go together. Yes, I was overheating. Yes, it was worth it.

Bouncing through cocktail parties called for the dress that truly makes a statement. If Jean Paul Gaultier is involved, I need to wear it ASAP. I needed an excuse to wear something a little dramatic, and this was it.

Attempting a night out during fashion week as a busy editor is always a feat, but it's worth trying at least once a season. I attended a few parties wearing this Greek goddess–inspired dress with gold and white accessories.

A show day required me to flex some of my favorite trends of the season. A lace-trimmed skirt has to be considered a must, and I love a car coat as well.

A trend that kept coming up on the runways and the street style crowd was leather oxford-style shoes. After seeing them at a few shows, I had to wear them myself. A lot of industry insiders clocked that these are already set to be the shoes of the season.

For a lunch meeting and show where I wanted to look polished without trying too hard, I reached for a simple dress with a sweater tied around the waist to finish it off. Rain during fashion week is inevitable at this point, and I've made peace with it.

Once the shows started to wind down, I defaulted to what I called my typical wardrobe—jeans I can actually sit in, a cool tank, and boots with just enough personality to still feel like fashion week. This one was for the day packed with back-to-back meetings, when comfort had to win.

My unofficial fashion week uniform: a sheer top, leather shorts, and knee-high boots that hold up on cobblestones and the subway. This combination got me through two shows and a late-night interview without a single change.

For the last decade, I've been attending New York Fashion Week like a local. Between shows, I'd stop home to eat lunch, write a quick review, or change into more comfortable shoes. Fashion week was like any other week in the city—just 100 times busier and with better outfits. Then I moved to Los Angeles, making spring/summer 2027 my first NYFW season as a tourist. Traveling for fashion week creates an entirely different dynamic. I had to preplan all of my looks and somehow manage to fit them all into sub-50-pound suitcases, for starters. And then came my accommodations. Fortunately, the Edition came through, acting as my home away from home in New York during my quick trip across the country. All that stress I felt packing? It immediately deteriorated after a La Mer facial at the New York Edition and a chamomile martini at the Times Square Edition.

From runway shows and presentations to private dinners and sauna/cold-plunge sessions, the diary below offers a glimpse inside my stay at both New York City hotels during fashion week. It was a busy few days, to say the least, but that's the magic of the city in early September. It's every fashion person's favorite time to run up and down the length of Manhattan and sometimes trek to Brooklyn to witness America's best designers debut their latest creations. I got the added bonus of playing tourist in the city I spent a decade living in, attending a Broadway show for the first time since 2018, and eating at the one restaurant I never got a reservation at before packing my life up and moving to L.A.

72 Hours in New York During Fashion Week

Wednesday, September 9 at 5:53 P.M.

After waking up at 4 a.m. to catch my 7 a.m. flight out of LAX, I was thrilled to be quickly checked into the New York Edition and taken to my room, where an assortment of La Mer products was waiting in the bathroom for me to use as a cure-all post-flight. I swear the Moisturizing Soft Cream is a miracle worker because after a quick body shower and skincare routine, I looked surprisingly well-rested. The obscene amount of Le Labo body lotion and a run-through with my Ora Method red-light gua sha probably contributed too.

Wednesday, September 9 at 6:37 P.M.

A little less than an hour later, I was a new person. I was ready to head out for a busy first night of back-to-back events, starting with a Balenciaga cocktail party at the SoHo boutique celebrating the new Hourglass Avenue Bag, followed by Coach's S/S 27 show held at Pier 36. For the evening, I kept my outfit pretty simple, pairing an old Khaite top I bought at a sample sale years ago with one of my most-worn items, a maxi leather skirt from St. Agni. My go-to Bottega Veneta heeled thong sandals and Prada 1995 Re-Edition Bag finished off the look.

Wednesday, September 9 at 8:12 P.M.

After being on a plane all day with nothing but Biscoff cookies to snack on, I was beyond appreciative that Coach had snacks at the ready when I arrived at the show. This year marks the brand's 85th anniversary, so celebrations were necessary. Models wore birthday hats, and a giant cake was wheeled out at the party that followed. It was all very festive, starting the week off with lots of positive vibes.

After Coach, I ran to two other events before walking back to the Edition. On the way, I called the hotel to order a very late dinner of sourdough toast, crispy bacon, and chamomile tea with lots of honey. The woman on the phone was truly an angel and did not make me feel weird about my order, which was low-key weird. I ordered the same thing for breakfast the next morning, swapping tea for a cappuccino. That's how good it was.

Speaking of the next morning, I woke up bright and early to tackle the week ahead, starting with a workout. I wanted to go on a run because running on the West Side Highway is one of the most basic but amazing things about New York that I miss very much.

Sadly, it started raining the second I set foot outside, so instead, I popped into WatchHouse to grab a coffee and then walked to Equinox for a short indoor run and arm day. By the time I left, my mind was clear and ready for a busy day ahead.

As I waited for my breakfast to arrive, I unpacked and got dressed. I probably overpacked for this trip because it was my first time since going to Milan for fashion week a few years ago that I didn't just have my entire closet with me. It's hard to know what you're going to want to wear, especially when wet weather is at play, but I got through it, deciding to start the day in a tuxedo shirt from J.Crew with white Banana Republic jeans and Chanel pumps. To make it more interesting, I tied a silk scarf that I bought in Seoul a few months ago from Nothing Written, a Korean brand I love, around my waist like a cummerbund.

Thursday, September 10 at 9:53 A.M.

I wore that outfit to Le Labo's West 4th location, where I joined the rest of the group of editors and content creators on the Edition trip to test all the different scents. Le Labo and the Edition have a very long-standing partnership, resulting in the famous Thé Noir 29 Perfume. It's synonymous with every Edition hotel. Just walk into one, and you'll smell it immediately. This was such a cool experience that I probably would never have had if it weren't for this opportunity. I ended up taking home a bottle of Another 13, my favorite of all the scents I tested.

Thursday, September 10 at 11:54 A.M.

Directly after the Le Labo tour, I returned to the hotel for an express La Mer facial in its spa, where the rest of my airplane-induced skin fatigue disappeared in just 30 minutes. I swear my facialist had magic hands, especially given how little time she had to work with. I would've had a full-hour appointment, but I had to run to Proenza Schouler's show, so I quickly changed into my next outfit in the treatment room and grabbed a car to the show. The look I chose was my favorite of the week. I wore a gray Prada blazer with a baby-pink satin back panel and a matching satin miniskirt from an earlier Prada collection. They go perfectly together, so I paired them with black Prada pumps and a simple white tee.

Proenza Schouler is always a fun show to attend. The brand, no matter the creative director, always puts out a texture-heavy collection. Its clothes are meant to be seen up close, as interesting details are always hiding somewhere. This collection was no exception. The textures dominated, but colors were a close second, with an interesting mix of vibrant blue, yellow, and red.

Thursday, September 10 at 2:05 P.M.

After a much-needed club soda and fries, a few editors and I headed uptown for the Tommy Hilfiger show, which was held at the Plaza and had arguably the longest VIP guest list I've ever seen. I was personally very excited about the cast of Maxton Hall (a German drama on Prime Video), but Kate Moss was cool too. As one of the great Tommy girls, Gigi Hadid opened the show looking very sporty and effortless, a fun contrast to the extravagant backdrop.

Before the finale, I snuck out the back of the venue to run to an appointment at Fashionphile, where I was having a bag authenticated to see if I wanted to purchase it. Specifically, it was Chanel's Shopping Bag from the Métiers d'Art 2026 collection that I'd been searching for at a reasonable price for months now. I finally found it, and after ensuring its authenticity (thanks, Fashionphile), I secured it at last. It was all very dramatic and wonderful—a great story that I'll be reminded of every time I carry it.

Thursday, September 10 at 5:35 P.M.

Great timing, much? Right as I got back to the hotel and dropped off my bag, I was swept away to celebrate. Well, drinks at Clemente Bar (inside Eleven Madison Park) weren't exactly planned as a celebration for me and my shopping habit, but it felt that way. Everyone on the trip caught up, sharing what they'd done that afternoon over a round of martinis and gin and tonics in the moody, elegant space. Shout-out to our wonderful server, who plugged in my dying phone so I could survive the rest of the night. Without him, this story would have stopped here.

Thursday, September 10 at 6:33 P.M.

A short while and a good 20% charge later, we walked around the corner to La Tête d'Or, a restaurant I was dying to try when I lived in New York but never could get a reservation for. Fortunately, the Edition has connections, and we sat down at arguably the best table in the house. The energy in there felt very cool and suave, and we quickly ordered glasses of wine and food. I had a show at 7 p.m. downtown, so I did have to make a run for it after ordering.

Thursday, September 10 at 7:30 P.M.

Yes, I did leave dinner during appetizers to run to the Tory Burch show, but don't fret. I made it back just in time for my steak entrée to arrive. The show was held in FiDi at Isamu Noguchi's Sunken Garden, one of my favorite NYFW venues. (Sandy Liang had a show there a few seasons ago, so I was excited to return and see how the two sets differed.) Bold accessories and vibrant colors stood out against the red carpeting and turquoise accents in the space, creating a very upbeat, hyperstylized energy hidden among the city's financial district. I didn't stick around long to soak it in, though. Dinner was waiting.

Friday, September 11 at 7:23 A.M.

After dinner, I went straight to bed. I famously hate NYFW parties and staying up late, so I was thrilled to be in my plush hotel bed by 9 p.m. and asleep by 10:30 p.m. I woke up early the next morning to go to my favorite Pilates class at Equinox on the Upper West Side. Shout-out to Rachel Genise—if you're an Equinox member, look her up! It was a bit more of a trek than I'm used to, considering I used to live on the UWS, but it was well worth it.

Friday, September 11 at 11:09 A.M.

The Altar is proof that not all saunas are equal. This just-opened wellness studio—equipped with (extra) cold plunges, red-light therapy, IV drips, and more—is truly an oasis in the middle of Flatiron. You walk inside, and the sounds of the city are immediately silenced as you're met with terra-cotta walls and stainless steel accents. We did a private guided sauna-and-cold-plunge session that went above and beyond anything I've done at other places. It was so hot, but it was in a way that made me feel accomplished at the end. Highly recommend.

Immediately after our 70-minute session at The Altar, we returned to the hotel to pack up our things and head to the Edition's other location in Times Square. Shocker: I overpacked, so this took longer than it probably should have.

The best thing about this hotel is how quiet and peaceful it is. I worked in Times Square for years, so I know firsthand just how chaotic and loud it is at all hours of the day. To be smack-dab in the middle of it and not hear anything is simply a miracle.

We had an early dinner reservation at the hotel's terrace restaurant since we had a 7 p.m. curtain call at the theater across the street. I haven't been to a Broadway show since I was 17, when I saw Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark the first time I visited New York to do college tours. Naturally, I then lived in the city for 10 years and never went to another until I came back for a visit.

It was well worth the wait. We saw The Lost Boys, which was such a fun production and completely unexpected for someone who had never seen the film. The Edition even set up an opportunity for us to meet one of the Lost Boys beforehand. He was wonderful, both in person and on the stage.

Saturday, September 12 at 10:42 A.M.

The next morning, I got ready for the Altuzarra show and headed downtown to the venue the brand has always shown at: The Woolworth Building, an icon of Lower Manhattan. The S/S 27 collection debuted in the building's sprawling marble lobby, and tea and coffee were served in the old Five & Dime café, which I was told is reopening, much to my delight.

For the show, I followed a strict black-and-white color palette, pairing a white tank top with my favorite Sportmax double-layer skirt that I searched for on the internet for months before I finally found one and a pony-hair Tory Burch jacket. I finished the outfit off with Massimo Dutti pumps and Dorsey drop earrings. I planned on changing into another outfit later in the day, but naturally, I got lazy, so I wore this all the way until Khaite, my last show of the night.

Saturday, September 12 at 1:22 P.M.

As much as I wish I could move right into the Edition—at least for a few more weeks that aren't as crazed as NYFW—I had to check out sometime. This trip to the New York and Times Square Editions has ended, but now that I've stayed at both, I know where I'll be staying every time I come back to my favorite city.

And just like that, New York Fashion Week has officially wrapped. The jam-packed five-day stint may mark the beginning of fall (I heard more than a few "Back to school!" jokes among editors backstage), but the hair and makeup looks certainly have me fired up for the spring and summer months. Luckily, NYFW beauty trends cycle into the spotlight at a much faster rate than fashion since the collections themselves won't be available until later, so it's not a bad idea to familiarize yourself with the 2027 looks before they undoubtedly take over the zeitgeist.

If there's one overarching theme per the forward-thinking runways, it's that beauty in 2027 will be undone, breezy, and just plain cool. Consider the wispy slipknots at Christian Cowan, Cult Gaia, and Anna Sui; the subtle "sunglasses nails" at Diane von Furstenberg; and the plumes of soft purple at Prabal Gurung and Sandy Liang. They're all effortlessly wearable and equally swoon-worthy. Scroll ahead to get a jump on every major trend, and know that adopting them early is essentially a calling card for the most stylish, in-the-know beauty fans.

Crimped Hair

There's no denying it: Crimped hair owned NYFW. I couldn't believe how many Y2K styles I saw backstage, from the shiny, strategically placed creases at Christian Siriano to the textured waves at Anna Sui to the deconstructed, ribbon-like strands at Christian Cowan. Justine Marjan, lead hairstylist for Christian Cowan, says it "feels both nostalgic and rebellious," especially when you pair it with a loose, lived-in knot. (More on this in a moment.)

Imperfect Twists

Find yourself in a hairstyling rut? Simply twist your locks into an easy French roll à la Kallmeyer and Dauphinette; a low, off-centered knot like models at Diotima; or one large, combined curl, as seen at Maria McManus. To ensure your style appears effortless, make sure to add an undone, off-kilter element. For example, you could pull a few soft, face-framing pieces out of the French twist (exactly what Kallmeyer lead Mara Roszak did backstage) or embrace the natural flyaways in your slick-back bun, like the models at Sandy Liang. "I didn't want it to feel like princess hair," hairstylist Dylan Chavles tells me backstage. "[It's] slicked but not shellacked tight."

Slipknots

Remember those loose knots I briefly mentioned earlier? Here they are in a few different forms: a half-up, half-down loop, as seen at Anna Sui and Area; an elongated, knotted ponytail from Cult Gaia; and a low, loose bun from Christian Cowan. The common thread for each style is that baby knot with an unbound, flowing tail. Think Norwegian soccer player Erling Haaland, who was actually the inspiration for lead hairstylist Garren at Anna Sui. Yes, really.

Purple Haze

Soft purple is basically a new neutral at this point. We've been reporting on the trend since award season wrapped back in March! It seems the fashion set would agree, as understated purple looks dominated more than a few runways. Take, for example, Anna Sui, where models sported shimmery lilac and gold lids courtesy of Pat McGrath Labs, or Prabal Gurung, where subtle purple highlights kissed a few models' foreheads and nose bridges.

At Christian Cowan, amethyst nails made an appearance via cat-eye press-ons, and even Sandy Liang took part in the purple craze by creating intentionally hollowed under-eyes with a cool-toned mauve eye shadow. "Then to counterbalance that darkness, I brought in a highlight that makes the eyes [pop]," lead makeup artist Emi Kaneko shares backstage. The dewy, fresh glow courtesy of celebrity aesthetician Sofie Pavitt also provided a nice contrast that kept the look from reading too sunken.

Cinnamon Cheeks

Bright bubblegum cheeks were all the rage last season, but this spring and summer, we can expect a warm-brown blush moment. Such was the case at Alice + Olivia, where lead makeup artist Carly Giglio dressed models' cheeks in rich cinnamon pigment, and at Tibi, "warm mocha cheeks" were imperative for the show's windswept, Western-inspired beauty look. If you're someone who typically favors bronzer over blush, spring/summer 2027 is your time to shine!

Icy Accents

That said, for those who love their cool tones, rest assured that icy accents aren't going anywhere. Take it from the washed-out lids at Kim Shui and Luar (both looks also renounced mascara to really commit to the frosted bit) or the pearly-mint "sunglasses nails" at Diane Von Furstenberg. Sandy Liang similarly cosigned icy manicures and even collaborated with Celisse, the nail partner for the show, on a bespoke frosted-blue polish. I immediately painted it on myself after scoring a secret sample backstage, and I can already confirm it's a year-round staple.

Power Volume

Flat hair, where? This NYFW brought a slew of back-combed, sky-high looks with an unmistakable '80s edge—Proenza Schouler, Wiederhoeft, LaQuan Smith, Magda Butrym, Diane von Furstenberg, to name a few! It's a category we're officially calling "power volume" given its effortlessly bold glamour. Bobby Michael, lead stylist for Wiederhoeft, shares, "Fluffy and touchable hair makes everyone feel sexy and glamorous." Go ahead and channel your inner '80s partygoer by amping up your natural texture and brushing your strands straight back for gravity-defying height.

Glazed Eyes

Yes, you can get high-shine lids without relying on any sort of shimmer. Simply commit to lived-in "lip gloss" eyes like the models at Diane von Furstenberg and Ulla Johnson by layering a clear balm over your eye shadow of choice, be it a bold teal (like the Estée Lauder Poolside Eyeshadow Quad at DVF) or a subtle champagne. For the latter, Ulla Johnson lead artist Romy Soleimani actually dabbed a sheer pink lip gloss onto models' lids for a light-reflecting look that doesn't appear too fussy. "Something high-impact but effortless," she says.

The last show of New York Fashion Week spring/summer 2027 may have walked the runway, but it's hardly done and dusted. There's much to analyze, such as the trends that came to fruition, and with a packed schedule of 63 runway shows throughout the week, there's plenty to work with.

Among the most highly anticipated events of the week was the return of Diane von Furstenberg to the schedule, under the helm of new Artistic Director Henry Zankov. Also populating the schedule were NYFW mainstays such as Khaite, Kallmeyer, Tory Burch, Calvin Klein Collection, Altuzarra, Proenza Schouler, and Ralph Lauren (which was technically off-season, showing the night before NYFW kicked off). Despite the differences among all 63 designers and a handful of presentations, we spotted more than a few styles in common. Consider this your cheat sheet of the biggest trends to hit the runways so that you and your closest will be prepared well before 2027 begins.

Cobalt Craze

When it came to NYFW color trends, there was a clear winner: cobalt blue, also known as Yves Klein blue. If you're thinking that cobalt is already a trend, you're certainly not wrong. It's been rising steadily this year, and the only place to go from here is up. Countless designers included cobalt in their collections—Kallmeyer, TWP, Ralph Lauren, Diotima, and Calvin Klein Collection, among others. At times, it was just a pop of blue, but more often than not, designers embraced the trend with cobalt as the focal point of several looks.

Skirts That Take Up Space

While column skirts were still present and accounted for on the S/S 27 runways, it quickly became clear that a new shape was prepping for a comeback: full skirts. Primarily in a midi length, full skirts of every fabric, print, and color imaginable were featured in multiple collections—even Khaite, which is commonly known for its sleek silhouettes.

Liquid Satin

Taffeta commanded everyone's attention in 2026, but according to the spring runways, 2027 will be all about liquid satin. In contrast to the stiffer structure of taffeta, liquid satin glides over and moves with the body. The fabric was spotted on runways as varied as Ralph Lauren, Sandy Liang, Cult Gaia, and DVF.

The Corset Comeback

Corsets often cycle in and out of trend status, and for spring 2027, they're undoubtedly the former. The corsets featured at Altuzarra, Khaite, Wiederhoeft, and more were more romantic and elegant than the lingerie-esque ones of seasons past. Interesting details such as peplum trim, appliqués, mixed fabrics, and off-the-shoulder layering stood out.

Colorful Car Coats

The car-coat trend isn't going anywhere, which was confirmed by the S/S 27 runways. The classic spring outerwear style made multiple appearances, but the difference for the coming season is that instead of neutrals, it appeared in bright colors, pastels, and prints. They added life to every look they were a part of.

Daytime Sequins

Sequins may not be all that groundbreaking, but the concept of sequins for daytime kind of is. On the spring runways, sequined pieces were often paired with basics, such as the tank with Bermuda shorts at Cult Gaia, or subtly, such as the scarf belt at Zankov. With strategic styling, sequins can look unexpectedly cool as opposed to fancy.

Modern-Day Jacquard

Jacquard is one of the most opulent fabrics out there, but the 2027 version of jacquard is far more accessible. Multiple designers, among them Proenza Schouler and Ralph Lauren, constructed modern silhouettes (such as the square-neck midi dress at Calvin Klein Collection) with jacquard instead of, say, poplin or crêpe. The ornate texture adds interest to an outfit and looks quite expensive, which explains why it was associated with the aristocracy in the early 1800s.

Sculptural Ruffles

Ruffles have a reputation for being soft and romantic, but the ruffles of NYFW S/S 27 were more architectural than anything else. Structured and at times peplum-like, ruffles adorned dresses, skirts, tops, and jackets at Carolina Herrera, Khaite, and Kallmeyer, to name a few.

Every fashion designer knows that a surefire way to make a piece of clothing more special is to give it some texture. Whether woven, feather-adorned, fringed, appliquéd, or puckered, interesting textures were spotted on pretty much every runway at NYFW S/S 27. If the thought of a sky-blue camisole covered in feathers or a cobalt dress covered in fluffy fringe (both seen on the runway at Diotima) sounds appealing to you, 2027 is going to be a good year.

Although New York Fashion Week technically began on Wednesday, the festivities have been well underway since the beginning of last week, with plenty of previews, dinners, and kickoff parties—not to mention all the fanfare surrounding the US Open.

Now that we've ramped up to the full schedule, the city feels abuzz with energy, and our team of fashion editors is off to the races. Over the past few days, we've been getting the very first glimpses of the spring/summer 2027 collections, but despite the clothing being the week's primary focus, our team is also indulging in a lot of incredible meals; taking approximately 1000 Uber, train, and bus rides; and, of course, wearing plenty of trend-forward outfits along the way.

If you've ever wondered what a day in the life of a fashion editor attending NYFW is like, you're about to get a taste. I tasked each attendee on our fashion team with reporting the highlights of each day, from their favorite runway look to the pop culture moment that everyone was talking about to what they ate, drank, and wore.

Day 5: Sunday, September 13

WHO: Eliza Huber, Associate Editorial Director

Favorite runway look of the day:

There were a lot at Brandon Maxwell. The entire show was so beautiful and intimate, but specifically, my favorite was this ivory-and-black plunge dress or the layered cerulean midi dress.

Trend you're already seeing everywhere:

This is so niche, but layering a long strand of pearls underneath something sheer. The Row featured this styling trick last season with a sheer beige turtleneck, and then I just saw it again at Magda Butrym. I guess it's more of a micro-trend, but sometimes, those gain the most traction among fashion people.

Best pop culture moment:

Does sitting across from Demi Moore, Nara Smith, and Kelly Rutherford at Magda Butrym's NYFW debut count?

Best thing you ate and/or drank this day:

Honestly, this is a hard one. I had breakfast at the Twenty Two, lunch at Sant Ambroeus, and dinner at Balthazar, so everything was good. The winner was the pomodoro from lunch, though.

Standout moment from in between the shows:

In the middle of the day, I got a much-needed express blowout from master hairdresser and colorist Morgan Lee Cook. We genuinely had no time to work with, but he worked his magic, and it made me look 10 times more put-together for the rest of my shows. Plus, I really needed 30 minutes to just sit down.

What you wore:

Honestly, packing for fashion week instead of just having my closet available is so tricky, but I've been waiting to wear this old Sportmax skirt for so long, so it was an obvious piece to bring/wear this season. I searched for it forever and finally found it. It's really a cool shape and style on its own, so it doesn't require too much to make it look interesting. I just styled it with a white tank top and this really fun cropped calf-hair jacket from Tory Burch's F/W 24 collection. Actually, everything I wore is old and has existed in my wardrobe, from my Massimo Dutti pumps to my Ray-Ban Wayfarer Sunglasses.

Day 4: Saturday, September 12

WHO: Nikki Chwatt, Associate Fashion Editor

Favorite runway look of the day:

Saturday's lineup of shows featured some of my favorite designers, including Conner Ives, Khaite, and Altuzarra, so it's tough to choose just one look. But if I had to pick, it would be Look 2 from Khaite. I loved the romantic, deconstructed styling of the semi-sheer, nude-toned floral skirt with a ruffled hem paired with a white blouse featuring a long line of buttons, a lightweight beige jacket, and a peplum tie belt seen throughout the collection. The cream croc iteration of the brand's best-selling Cate Bag and tan croc heels were the cherries on top, adding an extra dose of elegance.

Trend you're already predicting:

Ralph Lauren's S/S 27 collection is already living rent-free in my head. There's so much to say about it, but one trend I noticed was the use of shiny, liquid-like fabrics across different dresses. Fforme and Conner Ives also leaned into the shimmery textures through slinky slip dresses and tailored trousers.

Best pop culture moment:

Kaia Gerber opened the Khaite show at the Brooklyn Navy Yard. It was iconic but also unexpected since she'd never walked for the brand before.

The best thing you ate and/or drank:

Just like everyone else in NYC, it seems, I'm obsessed with matcha. If I'm not making it at home (Rocky's is top-tier), you can find me sipping an iced matcha latte with almond milk at 12 Matcha in NoHo. It's the best matcha spot in the city—period.

Standout moment from in between the shows:

Getting to catch up with other Who What Wear editors and finally meeting others in the industry who I've connected with online but had never met in person. It's such a surreal feeling, especially when you already feel like you know someone before you've even met them.

What you wore:

I recently picked up a pair of Tory Burch heels and a crinkled skirt from the brand's spring runway collection. I knew I wanted to save them for the right moment during New York Fashion Week, but I wasn't sure I would wear them together. When I laid them out side by side, I loved how the tan contrasted beautifully with the red. Since my first stop of the day was the Tibi show, I thought about how I could create a look that felt very Tibi using these two pieces. I achieved this by mixing the perfect colors, guided by the Tibi Color Wheel. The skirt is a Ring 3 color, and the shoes are a Ring 4 color, so I grounded the outfit with neutrals from Ring 2—pairing a short-sleeve navy knit, a black jacket, and a white bag. The look felt perfect for the show and true to my style.

Day 3: Friday, September 11

WHO: Anna LaPlaca, Senior Fashion Editor

Favorite runway look of the day:

There was a black-and-white fringe dress at Simkhai that felt so fresh and fun, and I keep going back to it. I'm not much of a dress person, but that's one I'd earmark for a special occasion.

Trend you're already predicting:

Yves Klein blue is already everywhere. Calling it now: It will become the It color everyone will be styling in 2027, and it's set to replace royal purple.

Best pop culture moment of the day:

A convergence of the coolest people in sports at Simkhai: Venus Williams, Simone Biles, and Tyler Kolek. Does it get any better than that?

Best thing you ate and/or drank:

A very crisp glass of vermentino at a patio table on Madison Avenue I shared with my colleague Eliza after our Attersee appointment and a single potato chip with a heaping mound of caviar at the J.Crew x Eckhaus Latta party.

Standout moment from in between the shows:

Sprawling out in the back seat of a Blacklane car with the AC blasting, new Charli XCX on the stereo, and my phone rejuicing while I upload all my footage for our team of social editors. A WWW office on wheels, if you will.

What you wore:

I've been intrigued by the cummerbund trend for a while now after seeing all the cool color combinations that Michael Rider sent out in the Celine spring 2027 menswear show, and NYFW felt like the right time to strike. I ordered this one from Zara in the prettiest shade of pink and paired it with white trousers and a chocolate-brown Still Here tee to give the pink an interesting color story. My vintage Celine pouch felt like the ideal finishing touch.

Day 2: Thursday, September 10

WHO: Kristen Nichols, Associate Director of Special Projects

Favorite runway look of the day:

Ralph Lauren presented a beautiful collection steeped in irreverent romance. The designs reminded me of the brand's S/S 03 collection, a runway show that has had a lasting imprint in my memory. Each look has a sense of elegance with vintage French wallpaper–inspired prints, delicate florals, and a palette of cream, blue, and gold. While many pieces had a historical sense to them, they felt entirely modern in their styling. Case in point: Look 29 pairs a floral tapestry-print jacket with utilitarian distressed denim.

The trend you're already seeing everywhere:

Brocade, jacquard, and luxe, maximalist textiles.

The best pop culture moment:

Serena Williams, Cindy Crawford, and Katie Holmes at the Net-a-Porter Incredible Women party.

Best thing you ate and/or drank:

I ducked into Meadow Lane after a show in Tribeca.

Standout moment from in between the shows:

Balenciaga had a NYFW party to celebrate its new Hourglass Avenue Bag, a style I'm expecting we'll see on the rise this season.

What you wore:

I wore a vintage blue cashmere shell top, white trousers, a leather bag, and a concho belt from Ralph Lauren—pieces from my closet that I wear often but styled in new ways.

Day 1: Wednesday, September 9

WHO: Sierra Mayhew, Fashion Editor

Favorite runway look of the day:

When I saw this look walk the runway at Cult Gaia, I just knew it was going to go viral. Just a few hours later, it was already everywhere. People are loving unapologetically overstated fashion moments, and this hot-pink feathered dress turned every head in the room. Ralph Lauren echoed this sentiment with a bold statement dress as well.

Trend you're already predicting:

I wouldn't call this a trend; it's more of a vibrant fall hue. Burgundy has stood out to me on attendees—myself included. I have been seeing the color everywhere. Attendees are having fun styling it in so many different ways to mark a look as fall, despite the fact that it's in the 80s in NYC this week.

Best pop culture moment:

Bulgari celebrated the launch of its public art installation on the High Line, and the celebrity arrivals were worth taking another look at. Anne Hathaway, Hudson Williams, Dua Lipa, Lisa, and many more looked incredibly elegant stepping into the event.

Best thing you ate and/or drank:

I attended a breakfast with Glowbar and Remedy at Golden Diner this morning, and it was a real treat. I've always wanted to visit New York's most popular diner, but I'm not the biggest fan of lines, so I never got around to it. Its famous pancakes were incredible, but why is no one talking about how literally every other item on the menu is equally enticing? My favorites besides the pancakes were the breakfast sandwich and yogurt bowl.

Standout moment from in between the shows:

Maybelline sent over one of my favorite makeup artists, Jennifer Fleming, to do my makeup for the event I hosted this evening. We worked together on a look that felt perfect for a night of shopping, talking, and presenting a fall/winter collection. We used the Cloudtopia Whipped Blush, and I'm now obsessed with the product.

What you wore:

Today was a busy day without a moment to rest, and on days like this, I just love the ease of a matching set. It's an outfit you can put together in seconds that instantly becomes an ensemble. I had the pleasure of hosting an event with Maje, so naturally, I chose one of the brand's sets. In person, this set has way more details than you initially notice online. There are embellishments and a taffeta fabric that make it look even more exquisite. When it comes to fashion week, my priority really is comfort, so I chose eveningwear-friendly loafers with a metallic shine.

Fact: New Yorkers have great style 365 days a year. When fashion week rolls into town, however, the outfits are a real sight to behold. This season, the industry's top editors, critics, buyers, influencers, and models all brought their A game to New York Fashion Week, and these pictures prove it.

After sifting through hundreds of street style images captured in the past week, I noticed a few prominent themes. On one end of the spectrum, bold dressers are seemingly enthralled with one specific animal print. No, it's not leopard! Tiger print is the pattern of choice these days, and I'm certainly not complaining. Those who favor a minimalist look nixed colors and prints altogether, instead opting for sleek outfits reminiscent of Carolyn Bessette Kennedy's wardrobe. The Best NYFW Street Style Trends of the Season

1. CBK Minimalism

Many showgoers eschewed prints, colors, embellishments, and extras in favor of black-and-white color palettes, sleek silhouettes, and minimal accessories. Worthy of '90s icons, these straightforward outfits were utterly timeless and completely elegant.

2. Fit to Be Tied

This season, tons of women tied sweaters around their waists and shoulders. For some, it provided a bright pop of color against an otherwise neutral outfit, and others chose sweaters that matched their outfits. It's arguably the easiest styling trick of all time, yet it can really pack a punch.

3. A Classic Combo

What's more timeless than a white button-down shirt and a pair of blue jeans? Nothing. This season, the fashion set showed off several different ways to wear the classic outfit combo that will never go out of style. Each person put their own spin on it: Some added lots of jewelry, and others kept the accessories minimal. I also noticed a variety of denim silhouettes, from straight-leg to baggy.

4. Tiger Print

Leopard has long been the animal print of choice for fashion week attendees, but this season, tiger print has surged in popularity. The styling options are endless. You can play up the pattern's boldness with bright colors or balance it with all-black pieces.

If you ask any New York Fashion Week attendee what the coolest show of the week is, they'll likely tell you it's Khaite, hands down. The spring/summer 2027 show was set in the fittingly industrial Brooklyn Navy Yard, and cool It girl Kaia Gerber made a rare runway appearance as the opener, with a plethora of cool celebrities populating the front row. (If I haven't said "cool" enough, don't worry—I'm not done.)

Khaite pretty much sets the standard for what's cool for any given season, and the brand's creative director, Catherine Holstein, designed a collection containing a slew of trends that'll surely play a hand in dictating what's in next year. It's worth noting that many of the spring/summer collection's most prominent trends could be considered comebacks. Among them are the skirt style that could give 2026's column skirts a run for their money and the shoe trend It girls might kick square toes to the curb for. In case you were wondering where the coolest NYFW celeb attendees were on Saturday night, it was the front row at Khaite. Nara Smith, Alexa Chung, Pamela Anderson, Elsa Hosk, and more were all present and accounted for, and all were clad in head-to-toe black.

Noteworthy Beauty Trends

The distinctive beauty trends spotted on the models on the Khaite runway have been getting as much attention as the fashion trends. Most noteworthy was the abundance of messy bedhead and teased bouffants that the models, including Gerber, wore. Makeup was natural and glowy, which was the perfect complement to the dark romanticism on the runway. Another important detail: Most of the models' nails were painted a dark, inky hue.

Comeback Trend: Exposed Underwear

According to a plethora of looks on the S/S 27 Khaite runway, showing your underwear is cool again. There were vintage-inspired bras in lieu of tops, sheer skirts over high-waisted briefs, and corsets in varying degrees of undone. Suffice to say, lingerie dressing just got even cooler.

Comeback Trend: Floral Lace

The lace featured in multiple looks in the collection wasn't just any lace. It was made of sheer tulle with appliqué 3D flowers. Column skirts, full skirts, dresses, and tops featured the stunning fabric, which is sure to become a hallmark of Khaite S/S 27.

Comeback Trend: Trapeze Skirts

While 2026's top skirt trend, column skirts, made multiple appearances on the runway, there was another prominent skirt trend that pretty much solidified its comeback: trapeze skirts. Structured, exaggerated A-line skirts and dresses with both long and short hemlines are sure to be key silhouettes for 2027.

Comeback Trend: Cropped Skinny Pants

There's been much ado about cropped pants being back, but Holstein's endorsement of the trend, in the form of cropped black skinny pants, on the Khaite S/S 27 runway might be the coolest proof we have yet.

Comeback Trend: Romantic Ruffles

Gothic romance was an overall theme on the Khaite S/S 27 runway, and one of the trends Holstein used repeatedly to capture it was ruffles. Some of the ruffles that adorned the pieces were structured, while others were flowy. Some were even in the form of floppy bows at the waist.

Comeback Trend: Sharply Pointed Toes

Take a seat, square and rounded toes. Khaite says that sharply pointed shoes are so back, and the It girls are sure to follow suit come spring. Whether in the form of pumps or high-heeled sandals, every single pair of shoes that stepped onto the runway featured an elongating point.

This time last year, New York Fashion Week was the perfect poster for minimalists: black and white colour palettes, polished polo shirts and timeless tailoring. This season, it's done a 180. That pared-back aesthetic pushed aside for punchy personalities, bold colours, statement shapes and design details that are already becoming so synonymous with each brand that their ownership is firmly staked on the catwalk. I'm calling it now: Ralph Lauren is singlehandedly bringing back the velvet duster coat—hooray for all of us bohemian-leaning lovers.

Add to that the countless street stylers being snapped, shouting hot dog vendors, never-ending car horns, and an incredibly cramped Strackers x Net-a-Porter Incredible Women party where none other than the Serena Williams walked past me (incredible woman, indeed), and five days actually feels more like two weeks. My nervous system may take a minute to recover. The sheer amount of fashion notes worth sharing overwhelming in itself.

So I bring to you just a handful of what we can all action right now. Tory Burch's declaration that big belt season may well continue (this time with a new take on the classic coin style). The street styler's strong love for fringe, even in the most unexpected of places. An even more statement-making way to style florals (more is more, according to Diane Von Furstenberg). And a supersizing of our office outfits à la Tommy Hilfiger, to bring a bit of playfulness back into the boardroom.

6 Trends, Styling Hacks and Accessories to Take From NYFW and Wear Now

1. New Take on the Coin Belt

Style Notes: Yes, Tory Burch had Alexa Chung and Emily Ratajkowski in the model line-up, but this new take on the silver belt still stole the show. Consider this new take on the coin belt your easiest way to make even the simplest of outfit feel far from boring. Big belt season is officially here.

Style Notes: Of course, "hi", "hello" or "good morning" are the most common greetings when sitting down next to a stranger at the shows, but this week a new phrase has been just as popular: "did you see the Ralph Lauren collection?". 3. Unexpected Everywhere Fringing

Style Notes: Now is the time we start to see the autumn/winter 2026 runway trends slowly trickle down into our actual wardrobes. First up: fringing, but not always on the pieces you'd expect. Out here in New York, the coolest dressers are wearing it across anything and everything you can think of: coats, blazers, bags, belts, jumpers, shirts and even more. Added drama in an instant.

Style Notes: Tory Burch, Proenza Schouler, Tommy Hilfiger and Diane Von Furstenberg all made a case for more punchy workwear. One easy styling trick? Opt for the oversized. Think shirts, blazers, jackets and trousers that look like you've borrowed them from the boys—or taken them from Tommy.

5. Fighting Florals

Style Notes: Iterations of florals shift every season, from ditsy print to extra-bold and abstract—but here in New York, anything goes, especially when worn all at once. Take notes from Henry Zankov's Diane von Furstenberg debut (where DVF herself sat front row) and clash your chrysanthemums with your crocuses for a maximalist push on flower power.

6. Daring Double Denim

Style Notes: Double denim has long been a go-to styling trick, both easy and impactful—it's dubbed the Canadian tuxedo for good reason, after all. And even Anne Hathaway's a fan. But here in New York, the Y2K denim duo has been dialled up a notch, with colour-co-ordinating pieces in more attention-grabbing proportions. Think maxi coats, voluminous jackets, blazers and jeans.

New York Fashion Week is in full swing, and as such, I've been able to top up my moodboard with a fresh dose of styling inspiration. With the city's chicest flocking to Manhattan for a flurry of fashion week events, my attention is on the street style happening right outside the shows, and the many ways the fashion set are rising to the demands of fashion week dressing. Whilst I love the higher-octane glamour that comes with fashion month, I can't help but gravitate towards the more wearable looks for the lion's share of my outfit inspiration. And, in doing so, I've spotted a number of chic jeans trends that stylish New Yorkers are reaching for this season.

From the "dated" trend making its comeback to the style I genuinely didn't see coming, read on to discover the three jeans trends taking off in New York this week.

3 Jeans Trends New Yorkers Are Wearing Now

1. Bootcut Jeans

Style Notes: Back with a vengeance for autumn/winter 2026, bootcut jeans are finally re-emerging as the season's favourite silhouette. Worn longline with a subtle flare, Elsa Hosk styled hers sans boots, instead opting for a classic pointed-toe heel that made her legs go on and on. A little dressier than your average straight-leg pair, I'm so glad these once-forgotten jeans are getting their moment in the spotlight once again.

2. Unfastened Jeans

Style Notes: While I expected to see baggy jeans, and even skinny styles, out in New York this week, what I didn't expect to catch sight of was the unbuttoned jeans trend. Yes, that's right—I'm talking about your regular jeans worn without fastening the final button. Taking the "undone" styling trend to a whole new level, wearing your jeans this way gives you an effortless energy I truly believe no styling trick could quite match. Cool and unfussy in a very New York kind of way, I can see the coolest city dwellers across the pond catching on to this soon.

3. Mid-Rise Straight Leg

Style Notes: If you're ever stuck on what to wear, I don't think I'll ever stop suggesting mid-rise straight-leg jeans—and New York's chicest clearly agree that this denim trend will always land. Wearing hers with a matching button-down jacket, Tate McRae opted for a longline pair that puddled at the floor, creating an easy outfit that still met all the demands of dressing for the city.

From attending her first Met Gala to headlining Lollapalooza, Tate McRae has been having quite the year, so naturally, I'm paying attention to everything from her chart-topping songs to her off-duty outfits. And when it comes to the latter, there's one specific pair of jeans she just wore in NYC that feels especially perfect for fall. They aren't too baggy, and they definitely aren't skinny. Instead, they hit that increasingly hard-to-find sweet spot in between.

McRae's Calvin Klein jeans are full-length with a sleek, subtly wide-leg fit that's super chic. The mid-rise and dark wash make them feel polished and expensive-looking, but they're still practical and easy to style. There are very few fragrances that strike the perfect balance of mystery and elegance. That make me smell sophisticated yet effortlessly glamorous. Tory Burch has solidified itself as one of the most highly anticipated shows of NYFW, season after season. The brand's S/S 27 showing last night at the Isamu Noguchi Sunken Garden proved exactly why. The joyful, vibrant collection was filled with head-to-toe looks that exemplified exactly what elegance will look like in 2027: polished, vintage-inspired, colorful, and never dull or "quiet". Tory Burch's quote at the top of the collection notes said it best: "Opulent femininity meets American pragmatism, seen through the collector’s eye. Spring/Summer 2027 explores the psychology of how women pull things together. They want beauty, utility, and humor — the joy of getting dressed."

There was a lot to take away from Tory Burch's vibrant spring collection, but there were three specific trends I feel confident in saying will define elegance next year: a shoe, a coat, and Burch's use of color within the collection. Read on for all the details and to see which celebs had a seat in the front row.

The Front Row

The Tory Burch front row is always an eclectic group, and this year's attendees included tennis star Alex Eala, Lauryn Hill, Olivia Jade, and Amanda Seyfried, seated alongside Anna Wintour.

The Shoe Trend: Pointed-Toe Pumps With Bows

It's always wise to pay attention to the shoes on the Tory Burch runway each season, as they often indicate which trends will take hold in the coming months. The style that jumped out at me from the runway was the pointed-toe pumps with bows (specifically, woven pumps with delicate bows and classic pumps with flat leather bows). Consider it a more sophisticated take on the block-heel ballet pumps that are so popular in 2026. The pretty style will add elegance to whatever outfit they're paired with in an instant.

The Coat Trend: Unique Car Coats

Car coats are arguably the most elegant of coat trends. Their comeback occurred several seasons ago when the aesthetic first took the fashion world by storm, but Tory Burch is turning it on its head. The S/S 27 collection was filled with unique car coats. There were brocade fabrics, bright colors, utility pockets, cinched waists, and swingy silhouettes—to name a few of the interesting features that breathed a whole new life into the classic style.

The Color Trends

As you undoubtedly noticed based on the previous images, color was prevalent on the runway. If you trust Tory Burch's opinion (and you should), in 2027, elegance won't "whisper" with low-key neutrals—it'll shout with vibrant, joyful color. Among the optimistic palette were multiple examples of grape, turquoise, coral, azure, vermilion, and marigold. The colors were often paired together in unexpected ways, adding to the fun of it all.

Everything old is new again. In 2008, Proenza Schouler's PS1 bag was photographed on Mary-Kate Olsen, Leighton Meester, Kirsten Dunst, Jessica Alba, Dakota Fanning, Reese Witherspoon, Mandy Moore, Emma Roberts, and scores of other stylish women. Now, for Rachel Scott's second runway show as creative director of the American brand, the PS1 bag is getting a revamp. Introducing: the PS1 Walker, named after Proenza Schouler's original studio on Walker Street and designed in collaboration with Reed Krakoff.

"The PS1 changed the game, but Walker is for her now," Scott said in a press release. "As I shape this next chapter for the house, finding the right collaborator mattered as much as the design itself. Reed instinctively knew what to leave alone, which mattered far more to me than reinventing it all. Walker is utilitarian, fluid, tactile, and perfectly restrained." Mark your calendars: It will be available for pre-order beginning September 19, 2026, on Proenza Schouler's website, and will arrive in stores and online in January 2027.

1. It Bag Comeback

Below is the revamped PS1 Walker bag, which comes in three different sizes. "The opportunity to reimagine it was as exciting as it was humbling," Krakoff said in a press release. "Rachel is bringing her own perspective into dialogue with this house's legacy, and the bag posed the same question: what to celebrate from the original, and what needed to evolve. The result is softer, sleeker, more refined, and unmistakably the PS1." Mary-Kate Olsen and Kirsten Dunst, also pictured below, were among the many fans of the original version.

The new bag comes in several different colorways.

2. Mixed Prints

Tiger print was the defining motif this season. It was rendered on coats, dresses, tops, skirts, and more, but it wasn't the only pattern Scott chose to highlight for spring 2027. She also sent several head-to-toe striped looks down the runway in a range of color palettes. Variety is the spice of life, after all.

3. Perfectly Imperfect

Similar to last season, Scott experimented with imperfection for spring 2027. Some dresses featured rumpled fabric and exposed seams, while the footwear was designed to look slightly undone. "The Opanka technique allows the outsole to become part of the upper, while San Crispino hand stitching leaves the making of the shoe visible," the show notes explain.

4. New York Nights

The collection's dresses are sure to appeal to NYC women—and every New Yorker at heart, too. A sleek LBD with a square neckline is a minimalist's dream, while the sequined gowns are practically begging to be worn on the red carpet. Perhaps we'll see one at next week's Emmys?

From the jacket trends draped over the shoulders of the best-dressed spectators to the new-season shoes tempting me away from my loafers, these are the three autumn trends New Yorkers are backing right now.

1. Suede Fringing

Style Notes: The advent of autumn is one of my favourite times of year, not least because suede finally gets the wardrobe recognition it deserves. This year, though, the suede offering is feeling particularly compelling, with playful fringing adding movement and texture to the season’s chicest jackets. Spotted on Devon Lee Carlson outside the Ralph Lauren runway show, the model layered hers over a simple top and paired it with bootcut jeans and heeled boots, creating an autumn-ready look I’d gladly borrow for the rest of the season.

2. Lace-Up Boots

Style Notes: No need to pull out your Chelsea boots just yet. This season, the chicest dressers I’ve come across are swapping their usual pairs for something a little witchier. Often finished with a sharp pointed toe and extending up the calf or even to the knee, lace-up boots are bringing a distinctly cooler energy to autumn outfits. Worn tucked into voluminous trousers, they create an elevated silhouette, but they’d work just as well with a swishy skirt for a more overtly witchy look.

3. Band Jackets

Style Notes: Where broad-shouldered blazers once dominated fashion circles, this autumn/winter, fashion people are making space for a whole host of fresh jacket trends. My favourite? The band jacket. Building on the Napoleon jacket trend that’s been swirling around the fashion world for the past few seasons, these orchestra-worthy layers are finally taking their due place in the spotlight. Worn with jeans, they add immediate interest, but styled with tonal trousers, they offer one of the chicest takes on tailoring around.

Next year is Ralph Lauren's milestone 60th anniversary. It's hard to believe that Ralph Lauren (the man) has remained at the helm of his namesake brand for its entire six-decade-and-counting run, but alas, there he was taking a bow at the end of today's runway show. So what does the beloved American designer have up his sleeve this time? "Spring 2027 is an irreverent take on romance that creates a new elegance," Lauren stated in the show notes. "It’s about ways of dressing that celebrate ingenuity, originality, and character—the freedom and fun of creating a style that is truly personal."

The show notes also provided a peek behind the curtain at some of this season's ingenious design methods: "Throughout, artisanal treatments enhance the clothes. An intricate woven construction lightens a fluffy, ombré shearling vest. 'Spritz and tumble' laundering rumples full-skirted dresses. Hand-painted and burnout techniques make for highs and lows of color intensity, giving silk lames and velvets an aged patina. One skirt’s embroidery was wrought in gesso-painted thread; the oversized sequins of another were coated to dull their shine. And an intricate spray-paint process imbued silk brocade with an impressionistic mystique."

Breaking Down the Ralph Lauren S/S 27 Show

After Dark

The show notes highlighted some of the collection's best clothes meant to be worn after dark: "Evening offers a bounty of options: fluid wrap dress, engineered with only a single seam; shimmering navy tank dress covered in micro sequins that release into fringe over trousers; poetic, embroidered velvet robe over ethereal white blouse and gesso-painted floral-print jeans."

Well-Suited

"In an homage to the first suit Ralph Lauren designed for women, two stark, sharp pantsuits were built in an Italian menswear facility, where the focus is on highly defined structure," the brand explained in the show notes.

This collection reminded our editors of some of Ralph Lauren's most enduring shows of the past, including spring/summer 2003. Over 20 years ago, Natalia Vodianova (pictured below, left side) wore a long coat with delicate florals in between pastel stripes, while today's show featured a similar Bridgerton-worthy jacket that was cropped in the front and long in the back.

Laid-Back Looks

Ralph Lauren thinks your 2027 jeans should be ripped, faded, baggy, and low-slung. This season, denim was paired with everything from cropped jackets (sans shirts) to floral-stamped button-down shirts.

Finishing Touches

Straw boater hats were some of my favorite accessories this season, but I also appreciated the impressive range of chic brooches, floral scarves, white handbags, oversized clutches, lace-up flats, delicate strappy heels, and more. And don't forget about the jewelry. Chandelier earrings were the perfect match for many of Ralph Lauren's most elegant evening looks.

With fall right around the corner, I decided to revisit the fall/winter 2026 runways. Whenever I go through a show, I'm always searching for styling inspiration to help inform how I think about shopping for the season ahead.

During Copenhagen Fashion Week, Baum und Pferdgarten styled a statement faux-fur coat with white tights (a micro-trend for fall 2026), and Caro Editions inspired me to wear a monochromatic white dress-and-shoe combination. At New York Fashion Week, Kallmeyer had one of the chicest looks of the season: an argyle sweater with a tailored miniskirt and sheer black tights.

In Milan, Simone Bellotti's designs for Jil Sander included a stunning high-neck wool coat—the perfect fall outerwear reference where the coat is the outfit. And Prada pushed me to rethink color pairings by mixing unlikely hues: a red wool scarf and an orange zip-up cardigan over a '50s-inspired baby-blue silk fit-and-flare dress.

Across the fashion month calendar, Paris is always my favorite, along with London Fashion Week. This time, Miu Miu was one of my most-loved collections, specifically dreamy knee-high boots with a poplin shirt and pencil skirt, referencing the house's late-'90s and early-2000s archives. Paloma Wool, typically known for muted palettes, surprised me with pops of bright color, such as a vibrant hot-pink sweater. The Row left me wanting to try a taupe trench coat with neutral tights and pointed-toe pumps, and Toteme showed another way to style a statement coat, with opaque black tights and tiger-print flats.
