Editorial manicurist Jin Soon Choi, founder of JinSoon, agrees, noting that "people want color that expresses personality without looking overdone." In my humble opinion, chic nail designs peak in the summer months. Don't get me wrong, I'm all for a moody, burgundy French tip or minimalist rhinestone, but there's something about warmer weather that makes beauty enthusiasts want to experiment, which often results in some pretty spectacular nail trends. Seaglass nails! Iced finishes! Mixed berry color combos! The limit does not exist when it comes to statement-making summer looks.

My recent fixation? The swoon-worthy "pill box" manicure. "I’ve been eyeing this quirky little trend of pill box nails for a while now," L.A.-based celebrity manicurist Queenie Nguyen declares in a recent Instagram post—one that made me stop everything and screenshot for my next salon appointment. No, it doesn't involve actual tablets or bottles on your nails (unless you're celebrity nail artist Mei Kawajiri, who showcased a literal interpretation of the trend), and it's actually easier to achieve at home than a crisp French mani. As you can see from the photo above, pill box nails involve a variety of high-contrast polish combinations split down the center of the nail plate. Given the shape and stark color pairings, it closely resembles a handful of vibrant capsules from a weekly pill organizer. Get it? "It feels playful, slightly nostalgic, a little retro, and somehow still cool at the same time," Nguyen continues in her caption. Milan-based nail artist Oksana Zavora would agree, as she cosigned the trend a couple months ago after feeling specifically inspired by the hues from YSL's commercial campaign in Marrakech. In following the barrage of makeup movements served to me on my aluminum brick, no matter how compelling (I did indulge in the sunburn blush and frosted lipstick trends), I felt that I’d lost my personal sense of style this season. It was only after turning my focus away from the beauty industry that I found a new source of inspiration for spring beauty—and that, my friend, was Jonathan Anderson’s first F/W collection for Dior.

Beauty is, by nature, an extension of fashion. It puts the period on the message the designer is trying to convey through their clothes, whether simple like Prada’s streamlined silhouettes or theatrical like Maison Margiela’s statement-making ensembles. So it’s no surprise that when I discovered the marvel of water lily–inspired shoes, turtle-shaped purses, and chrysanthemum-adorned two-pieces cascading down Dior’s runway at the Jardin des Tuileries in Paris, I was quickly influenced to translate the show’s palette into my own look.

Since diving into the pastel world of Anderson’s Dior, I have a renewed sense of appreciation for spring beauty. Ahead, the five trends I’ve adopted from his spellbinding show.

There is little I love more than a punchy pastel eye, so when I spotted this sky-blue clutch on the runway, I realized that I had Dior’s permission to slather this color all over my lids. Though blue eye shadow isn’t exactly groundbreaking for spring and summer, the retro hue is having quite a comeback in 2026. Even celebrity makeup artist Ash K. Holm declared this color the diamond of the season in an Instagram reel; using Danessa Myricks’s Colorfix liquid pigment in the shade Oasis to achieve her robin’s egg lids.

To channel the bag’s freshwater hue, I opted for Victoria Beckham’s EyeWear cream shadow in the shade Cornflower. After swiping this color all over my lids, I blended the color into my crease with a fluffy brush and intensified the look with Hung Vanngo’s Color Story Eyeshadow Palette in Brilliant Blue. Cool, artful, yet modern.

Dior’s Backstage Glow Maximizer Face Palette includes a cool-pink shimmer pigment that looks just like the hue of Dior’s chrysanthemum appliqués, and it makes the skin look extra healthy thanks to its shimmery finish. (Disco blush, if you will.) I’m also throwing one of Sabrina Carpenter’s go-to liquid blushes into the mix and blending Violette_FR’s new Plume Eye Shadows in the shade Pluie Violette onto my lids for a monochrome look.

Water-Lily Nails

Perhaps the most literal beauty interpretation of this collection that I’ve seen yet is this set by Milan-based professional and editorial manicurist Oksana Zavora. Each nail is accented with a smattering of water lilies, chrysanthemums, pastel French tips, and 3D decals in the form of bubbles or rhinestones—all directly inspired by the collection itself.

If having different nail art on each tip feels intimidating, try alternating milky pink, baby blue, and pastel green shades from finger to finger to get a similar look. I’m also referencing Chanel’s mermaid nails from the fashion house’s latest Cruise 26/27 show—where alternating colors were utilized in sheer, chrome shades—for this whimsical aesthetic.

Chiffon Lips

I usually don’t gravitate toward pink pinks when I do my makeup, no matter the season or the occasion. However, something about Anderson’s use of baby pink in this collection made me rethink my ways. When I got hold of Prada’s brand-new Touch Blush—a cream-to-powder product in elevated, pigmented shades—I used it about half of the time on my cheeks and the other half on my lips. The shades Waterlily and Tulip look extra sweet when tapped onto the lips, especially when applied atop YSL Beauty’s Kiss Shaper liners.

Fruity Femme Fragrances

If Dior’s relatively springy fall collection had a scent, it would be a flurry of fresh greenery, blooming flowers, seasonal fruits, and plump dewdrops. This bouquet of scents got me thinking about floral fragrances that flirt with notes of juicy fruit and sweet earth—so I quickly edited my spring perfume collection to include these three.

It may seem a little too on-theme, but I’d be remiss to overlook Dior’s sumptuous spring perfume offerings. Dior Addict Rosy Glow Eau de Parfum is a new scent that lands on the sweet end of the spectrum with a fruity, lychee base (an extremely popular ingredient right now) draped in a canopy of Damascus rose and dashed with creamy vanilla. For something a bit more sheer and green, I’m tossing Diptyque’s Vetyverio Eau de Toilette into the mix, and Jo Malone’s Poppy and Barley Cologne is my seasonal pick for something juicy and sweet that doesn’t lean gourmand.

I joke that I’m psychic quite often, but no one doubts my foresight when it comes to on-the-rise nail trends. My finger(tip) is on the pulse of all burgeoning manicure movements before they take over your Pinterest feed, from tiger-stripe nails (just picking up steam now, by the way) to unconventional color combos that pros would back me up on months later. Now that I have your attention, I’m excited to introduce a trend that elevates last year’s polka dot craze into something fresh ahead of summer: Studded nails, as you’ll soon see below.

I first caught a glimpse of this trend last October, when a single image of a manicure rimmed with silver studs popped up on my Pinterest. The look immediately intrigued me, not only because it resembled a handbag I’d just watched Lorelai Gilmore swing around on my TV (I was doing my annual fall rewatch of Gilmore Girls, okay?), but because it felt like a cooler and edgier way to wear polka dots than the countless ways I’d seen celebrities show them off online.

Thankfully, I had a nail appointment at Vanity Projects in New York’s Lower East Side lined up, and I promptly presented her with both photos. (The manicure inspo shot and a picture I snapped of Lorelai on my screen, of course.) Though I got these nails in the fall, this butter yellow hue feels especially fitting for the spring and summer. To form pseudo studs, my manicurist placed individual flat discs onto my nails with a small amount of gel to keep everything in place, curing them along the way. After sealing the look with a gel top coat, we were left with this glassy, effortlessly cool manicure that works year-round.

Heavy Metal

This is as literal a trend interpretation as they come. To fully send this look, try an inky black base, like this one painted by manicurist Ramon Duran, and then glue (if regular polish) or cure (if gel) small stud decals around the perimeter of the nail. This look is undoubtedly edgy and feels so fitting for the colder months, but I think it's especially cool to wear anti-spring nails as the weather heats up.

This glossy navy set is another that I recently saved to my nailspo board. There are many things we look to the Icelandic musician Laufey for: our new favorite jazz-inspired pop songs, her breezy, ultra-femme style, and her minimalist beauty moments. Luckily, we were served with the latter at the 2026 Met Gala, where the multi-hyphenate floated onto the mossy carpet in front of New York City’s Metropolitan Museum of Art wearing a custom Tory Burch gown, a dainty pouch purse, and a very bridal-coded manicure to match.

This wasn’t Laufey and celebrity manicurist Yoko Sakakura’s first time working together. In fact, the two very recently collaborated on the star’s buzzy Madwoman music video, which included an ultra-buzzy cast list of Heated Rivalry’s Hudson Williams, Lola Tung, Olympian Alysa Liu, and Katseye’s Megan Skiendiel, to outfit the star’s nails for the big project. Sakakura tells Who What Wear exclusively that the two always have conversations about the nails beforehand—it’s not merely a day-of decision. “She enjoys exploring nail ideas along with her sister, Junia [Lin],” she tells WWW. For the Met, this meant all hands on deck.

These conversations centered around the dress: an ivory column gown decked out in small, flower-shaped sequins dotted by small pearls at the center. According to an article from Allure, the dress’s silhouette references her childhood instrument, the cello, in its curvature and shape. The cello not only sounds the most like the female voice, but it also looks the most similar to the female body, which bridged Laufey’s personal connection to the Costume Art theme perfectly.

The best beauty looks of the night all made small references to the fashion on their bodies, and Sakakura’s handiwork was no exception. She started with a pearly white gel polish (Aprés’ Astral Gel Couleur in Balance) to match the swan hue of her dress. Next up were the trendy accents. “For this specific look, I hand-made small flowers to mimic the details of her dress,” the manicurist explained. The request was that these 3D decals—a trend we’ve seen amongst Margot Robbie, Kylie Jenner, and the fashion elite—be made of sequins to match the Tory Burch embellishments.

In varying clusters of five to six holographic white sequins with small pearl deposits in the middle, Sakakura painstakingly placed every small disc. That said, she promises that you, too, can achieve this look at home with a little patience. “It is very easy to create this look,” the nail artist assures. “Add five circle sequins, place them like flower petals, and add a tiny pearl in the middle and dry (if polish) or cure [if gel] to set the art,” she explains.

“This look is more editorial because of the 3D flowers,” says Sakakura, though she admits that she thinks it’s “trendy” to use small sequins, especially holographic ones, to make chic nail art in 2026. The placement feels intentional, with some nails left plain to show off the shimmery white polish, while one to two accent fingers bear the beautiful blooms. Though this look would also look stunning on long nails for wedding season, we especially love how each flower frames her short tips. “Laufey likes her nails natural and short because she plays instruments,” Sakakura explains.

The Rhode founder may be known for her pearly glazed tips, but she recently turned the tables with a pitch black polish base—an anti-spring mani if I ever saw one, but it's a look I'm already itching to copy. As you can see, Bieber doesn't do away with all of the spring elements. Ganzorigt added pretty blue and green flower accents, which gave the black base a little more of a springtime feel. The luminescence creates a nice contrast against the dark base, but still, I can't ignore the edgy choice of polish here. Even for a bold beauty occasion like Coachella, I'd expect the mogul to don something bright and punchy—especially with the pink and yellow vintage Dior mini slip she wore during the weekend.

Glazed nails are still going strong as the #1 nail trend—at least, that's what celebs seem to think. Recently, Hailey Bieber, Kendall Jenner, and Sabrina Carpenter all sported variations of the iconic, internet-famous "glazed donut" manicure, which was originally coined and created by their go-to nail artist, Zola Ganzorigt.

The original "glazed donut" manicure formula included OPI's GelColor in Funny Bunny ($18) and the Tin Man Can Chrome Effect Powder. This was a silvery-white topper that gave gel nail polish that gorgeous, glazed effect we now associate with celebs like Hailey Bieber. Here's the thing, though. It's been out of stock and unavailable to purchase for a while now. In its absence, people had to get creative to achieve the A-list manicure. Some people used pearly nail polishes to achieve a similar effect. Others turned to press-on nails. Others, still, booked salon appointments to gain access to salon-specific chrome finishes.

Well, I'm pleased to announce that, due to the recent popularity of the "glazed donut" manicure (thanks in no small part to Ganzorigt!), OPI has rereleased the Chrome Effect Powder, albeit with a slightly different name. Meet Tin Man Can Glaze. It's the very same silvery-white chrome effect that we all know and love, with a name that pays homage to one of the most popular nail trends in recent history. And it's the *exact* item that Ganzorigt used to create Bieber's, Jenner's, and Carpenter's glazed manicures.

First, we need to talk about the celeb inspo. Let's start with Bieber—the unofficial poster child of the "glazed donut" manicure. She recently posted this picture on Instagram, celebrating spring with bunny ears and "vanilla French" glazed nails.

Meanwhile, Kendall Jenner showed off her favorite L'Oréal Paris makeup products while sporting the classic "glazed donut" manicure, also created by Ganzorigt.

Last but not least, Ganzorigt created Sabrina Carpenter's "bedazzled glaze" mani.

How to Use It

After prepping your nails (trimming, shaping, and completing cuticle care), the brand recommends lightly buffing the nails and cleaning them with 99% isopropyl alcohol. Then, apply a thin coat of OPI's GELement Base Coat ($16) to four fingers. Cure for 60 seconds under a UV lamp. Repeat the process on the thumb.

Then, repeat the process with a thin coat of gel nail color. Finally, reach for the GELement No-Wipe Top Coat ($16). Apply a thin coat to four fingers, and soft-cure them for 30 seconds (this will leave the top coat slightly tacky for optimum chrome adhesion). Lightly dip the applicator into the glazing powder and rub it over the nail in circular motions. Dust off the excess and apply a final layer of top coat, curing it for 60 seconds. Finish with nail and cuticle oil.

It might sound like a long process, and it might take some practice. Once you get it down, though, you'll have achieved an A-list glazed manicure at home.

Spring is here, and we beauty enthusiasts are already beginning to get an idea of which buzzy nail trends this season will be remembered for. Whilst spring 2025 was all about leaning into nostalgia with bold, negative space designs, micro-French manicures and coquette nails featuring 3D decals, this time around, we're expecting the nail space to transform once more as the trend cycle continues. However, experts are saying the season's top nail looks will look significantly less "trendy" than we've seen in the past.

In true Who What Wear beauty editor fashion, I reached out to two celebrity nail artists for the insider's scoop on which nail designs will be falling out of style just in time for the temperatures to rise, and everything that will be taking their place. Which Nail Looks Won't Be Trending This Spring?

Celebrity manicurist Queenie Nguyen predicts a shift away from the maximalist, high-drama nails that dominated spring last year. "Trends that you might not see include overly bling 'junk nails', thicker, high contract french tips, enlarged 3D elements, or even extreme shapes like an ultra sharp stiletto," Nguyen explains. Celebrity nail artist Analysse Hernandez shares that she and her clients have been experimenting with fresh designs, departing from the blooming gel flower nails that made appearances for spring over the last two years.

"I love how buildable and versatile this flower was in sets, but I do feel like my clients are now gravitating toward more realistic nail art," she adds. Last year, manicures embraced simple, solid colours, but Hernandez says simple, solid colours (especially soft shades like butter yellow), but the trend won't be making a return this season. "While those colours are still relevant, this year is all about adding personality through design," explains Hernandez.

What Will Be Taking Their Place?

Rather than returning to last spring's bold, runway-inspired nail art, citrus shades and dramatically long lengths, Nguyen says manicures this spring will be softer and more wearable. "Think sheer, milky 'your nails but better' finishes, jelly nails that give a more translucent finish, micro nail art like micro french tips or subtle gems," continues Nguyen. She also predicts we'll be seeing shorter lengths with softer shapes like round, oval, and 'sqoval' nail shapes making a comeback this spring. Instead of the aforementioned gel flower nails, Hernandez foresees floral milk nails rising in popularity this season (dried flowers are delicately encapsulated within gel or acrylic).

"Layer with a sheer, milky shade like OPI’m a Bubble Bunny to create that soft, spring-ready 'clean girl' aesthetic," she explains. Hernandez is also seeing a rise in pattern nails featuring playful designs like polka dots, stripes, and gingham prints. "These looks embrace a mix of colours, textures and creativity," Hernandez explains.

Why Will These Trends Be on the Rise?

If you've been noticing an uptick in the number of beauty trends based on lifestyle, you're not alone. Nguyen says manicures this season will be all about prioritising low-maintenance and polished looks that lean into individuality and lifestyle. "Rather than repeating highly recognisable, 'algorithm-driven' trends (like glazed doughnut or heavy chrome), people are gravitating toward more personal, understated styles that still feel intentional and fun," she says. "I’m excited to see more techs lean into this fun world and bring back maximalist nails!"

For a clean, healthy glaze, Nguyen recommends asking BIAB as it's ideal for creating a sheer, structured base that enhances natural nails. "If you're at home, I love the Orly Breathable 1 Step Manicure because it combines nail care with colour. A favourite spring neutral is Kiss Me, I'm Kind as it is the perfect soft, subtle pink."

This chic manicure by Milan-based creative nail-artist Oksana Zavora combines the magic of a cat eye design with subtle polka dot details that catch the light perfectly. These ethereal and playful nails combine one of the season's trendiest colours (vintage blue) with crisp cream for a versatile, spring-inspired look that's timeless.

Solid, pastel shades in butter yellows and lively orange won't be as popular this spring, but experts are predicting an uptick in nails that feature bright spring nail colours with eye-catching, elegant touches.
