There are a few key spring and summer events that help our editors keep an eye out for inspiration and trends, runways, of course, red carpets, after-parties and The Met Gala.

This year Hunter Schafer wore one of our team's favourite red carpet looks of the night, which was a custom Prada gown inspired by Gustav Klimt's "Mäda Primavesi." Then, for the Saint Laurent after-party at People's Bar in New York City, she changed into a custom dress by emerging British designer Steve O Smith and carried one particular accessory: Prada's Wish Pouch.

That made me think back to the Italian luxury house's spring and summer 2026 runway show, where the bag appeared multiple times throughout the collection, taking an essentials-only approach to dressing: phone, keys, wallet. The silhouette comes in three materials—silk, Re-Nylon, and leather—and in a range of shades including black, grey, orange and even pink.

Pouches also appeared at Loewe's, Miu Miu's, and Valentino's spring and summer 2026 shows and even at Celine's autumn and winter 2026 presentation—a nostalgic eveningwear aesthetic reminiscent of the dainty styles dating back to the late 18th century.

The summer of sports is officially here, with the World Cup well underway, as are the WNBA and MLB seasons. For particularly stylish sports fans, Wimbledon is also coming soon, kicking off on June 29 and running through July 12. During the tournament, stylish people in the UK flock to the event, donning their best white ensembles courtside. And in 2026, one brand is already expected to have a major sartorial presence: Miu Miu.

Just in time for the occasion, Miu Miu launched Court Essentials, a 17-piece classic-with-a-twist tennis wardrobe that "blends sporting elements with clean, essential lines," according to the brand. Think perforated top-handle bags and backpacks, stark-white knit polos, and buggy sunglasses that are perfect for shielding against the sun during the daytime matches. There's also a recently updated version of Miu Miu's 530 Sl Deco Leather Sneakers, designed in collaboration with New Balance, two brands that are partnered with tennis phenom Coco Gauff. Gauff posted photos of her wearing pieces from the collection to Instagram, captioning the slideshow, "Miu Miu tennis capsule collection along with my Vivant bag making my day!"

She's the first of many who will be spotted wearing the collection between now and the end of tennis season, both at Wimbledon and later in the summer at the US Open in New York. Look in my closet, and you'll probably notice that there's one color that appears more than any other—in a disproportionate amount. For years, I've loved wearing black—so much so that I rarely wear color. I recently wrote an entire article about how I wear black even in 90-degree weather.

Lately, though, I've noticed myself unexpectedly wanting to introduce more color into my wardrobe. It started with a Faithfull dress in tomato red, followed by the Gimaguas ballet flats in hot pink, and then a turquoise top from Peachy Den. It just so happens that bright, colorful clothing is trending right now, and as a minimalist dresser who mostly wears neutrals, I didn't expect to love this summer trend as much as I do.

Thinking back to Who What Wear's Great Try-On for spring, one of the standout trends was colorful tops. And across the spring/summer 2026 runways, there was a noticeable shift towards maximalism, with vivid hues and fun, flirtier styling. For example, at shows like Celine, Miu Miu, Prada, Simone Rocha, Tory Burch, and more, we saw colors like poppy red, burnt orange, royal purple, chartreuse, and bubblegum pink.

Evie Templeton is officially having a major style moment. After capturing audiences on Netflix's Wednesday as eccentric Agnes DeMille, the 17-year-old breakout star has emerged from the dark, quirky halls of Nevermore to the sun-drenched, high-fashion world of the French Riviera.

Just yesterday, she made her debut at the Cannes Film Festival, where she walked the red carpet for a screening of her upcoming comedy-horror film Victorian Psycho. The actress seamlessly blended classic elegance with a distinct edge—and playful accessories—solidifying her status as an exciting new talent to watch both on-screen and on the red carpet.

To pull off her stunning festival debut, Templeton collaborated with powerhouse celebrity stylist Rebecca Corbin-Murray. Together, they created two looks that worked with the "Cannes daytime chic" dress code, featuring designs from Rodarte and Miu Miu that subtly paid homage to the film's gothic-romance roots.

Below, the actress opens up about the inspiration behind her ethereal wardrobe, what she's learned from costar Jenna Ortega, and the "beautifully bonkers" experience of bringing a beloved psychological horror novel to life on-screen.

How did you settle on these looks with your stylist, Rebecca Corbin-Murray? Why are they perfect for Cannes?

It was such a wonderful, collaborative process—as it always is—with my stylist, Rebecca. Since it was a daytime premiere, the dress code was "Cannes daytime chic," and I wanted a look that was youthful and classic but felt very much like me.

We went for two different looks to get the best of both worlds, settling on an incredible Rodarte white dress for the photo-call, which felt like the perfect summer look, but with the collar, [it was] a nod to the Victorian era of the film. For the carpet itself, we decided on a Miu Miu number with a little black bow and embellished jewels. It felt so cute and fresh! Miu Miu is a brand that I've always resonated with, and I love their aesthetic. To be in Cannes on behalf of [Victorian Psycho] wearing such incredible brands has been a dream.

Tell me about your glam and your accessories and how they completed the look.

For the Rodarte look, I wore a black choker to complete the look (another nod to the film!), which felt quite gothic and chic. Of course, I couldn't forget a pair of sunglasses! I went for a sleek black pair to keep it very classic. Black strappy heels felt like the best fit for both looks, and on the carpet, I wore some beautiful pearl drop earrings, complementing the embellishments on my dress.

I worked with the dream team of Bjorn Krischker and Sara Hill for my hair and makeup. We kept it very simple, dewy, and youthful with a little liner to make my eyes pop. We styled my hair with just a subtle wave. It felt like the perfect summer hair and makeup, so [it was] an ideal fit for my first Cannes.

How faithful an adaptation is the movie compared to the Victorian Psycho book? What specifically do you think readers will love about bringing the novel to the screen?

I actually had read the book by Virginia Feito before I was cast in this project. I saw the pages come alive, so translating her fantastic writing into a film was an honor. I was surrounded by such a passionate cast and crew on set. I'm excited for audiences to experience the movie and be immersed in the beautifully bonkers world we built.

What have you learned about acting from Jenna Ortega on the set of Netflix's Wednesday? Do you have any memorable behind-the-scenes moments you can share about working with her?

I've learned so much working on Wednesday with so many inspiring creatives. Jenna is like a big sister to me, so getting to collaborate with her and build the relationship between our characters in the show was a joy!

One of the funniest memories I have is from the body-swap episode. We were shooting a scene where I hand her a coffee cup, and she knocks it out of my hands. During one take, it flew up and landed on someone's head, which had us all laughing.

How would you describe your interest in fashion? Where do you get your fashion inspiration from? What are some brands you'd like to wear and/or work with in the future, and why?

Fashion has always intrigued me, and I'm learning more and more about it, discovering my personal style. I love how fashion can transform you on the screen and also for events like this. I felt so lucky to wear Rodarte and Miu Miu in Cannes, two dream brands! I love Miuccia Prada. I think she is incredible, so wearing a Miu Miu dress for the carpet was a complete honor.

It would be wonderful to work with Dior, Chanel, Loewe, Balenciaga, and, of course, Miu Miu again!

Corbin-Murray also styles Florence Pugh, Simone Ashley, and Lily James. What are a couple of your favorite looks she's styled for these celebs in the past? What do you love about her approach to styling?

I couldn't possibly choose! They are all incredible women and actresses I hugely admire who always make such cool, considered choices in what they wear. I love how collaborative Rebecca is. … We can really sit and chat through our ideas together, what we feel looks good, and the kind of direction we want to go in. She always thinks about the little things too—a jacket here, a bag there, the perfect accessories to complete a look. She understands my personal style so well.

Rihanna is a style icon through and through and is always privy to the newest trends—including the highly specific microtrends. The entrepreneur and her beau, ASAP Rocky, were just in NYC, looking stylish as ever. Rih wore a long black skirt, a gray tank top, a belt buckled at her waist, and a tan jacket layered over her outfit. In hand, she toted a quilted burgundy Dior bag and accessorised with a pair of bug-eye sunglasses. The most interesting accessory of the entire look, though, was her baseball cap. Why? Two-toned baseball caps have been everywhere recently.

Seriously, even the New York Times clocked it. In the recent article about the two-toned baseball cap phenomenon, the publication touches on the ubiquity of the trend (specifically speaking to green-and-white styles). Mitch Cahn, owner of Unionwear, a hat manufacturer in New Jersey, stated to the New York Times: “This year that particular combination is up about 10% from, like, zero.” It’s as if the highly specific trend came out of nowhere and is suddenly everywhere. The trend reads quite preppy and sporty, as many athletic brands may have started the trend and are selling out of their supply of two-tone caps. Designer fashion brands such as Miu Miu are now also making two-toned baseball caps, and the Rihannas of the world are wearing them. Wearing a baseball cap may seem counterintuitive to wear for a night out, but trust me, it’s the perfect accessory for a casual outing. She looks cool, polished, and effortless, all of which are characteristics of a perfect outfit.

Famed photographer Bill Cunningham once quipped that “fashion is the armour to survive the reality of everyday life”. How this actually transpires looks different from one person to the next. However, whilst performing a slew of records from her discography in celebration of them hitting one billion streams on Spotify during an exclusive concert in Barcelona, Olivia Rodrigo proved that whatever sartorial protection one equips themselves with will always spark discourse.

For the uninitiated, the “Drop Dead” singer chose a perfectly innocuous ensemble that’s in line with her all-American girl-grown-up stage persona—a hand-embellished puff-sleeved top from emerging fashion brand Génération78 that she wore as a babydoll dress and a pair of leather Dr Martens that laced up to her knees.

It’s a silhouette that the songstress has sported many times and personifies the cinematic and stylistic influences that inspire her sonic identity. (Including, but not limited to, Sofia Coppola’s The Virgin Suicides, Riot Grrrl bands like Bikini Kill and Princess-core tropes like chintzy tiaras and vintage saccharine minis from the likes of Todd Oldham and Blumarine.)

Immediately, her autonomy to wear this sweet, floral-adorned and jewel-encrusted thigh-grazer with matching bloomers was irrevocably revoked. Some dubbed it as “infantilising” whilst others were scandalised by the idea that an adult woman would choose to wear something she herself felt comfortable, confident and in line with her creative vision in front of her teenage fanbase. But there’s more to this babydoll dress than meets the eye, with the ethereal and coquettish silhouette a harbinger of rebellion, subversion and anti-establishment of the punk persuasion.

Indeed, this undermining of traditionally feminine tropes has been happening for decades, with the most pronounced disruptions from the likes of Courtney Love and Kat Bjelland. As with anything in fashion, once a trend begins to bubble up in a subculture—in this case, the ‘90s Pacific Northwest grunge and Californian rock scenes—it’s soon thrust into the mainstream. Soon, Marc Jacobs was designing a slew of babydoll dresses during his time at Perry Ellis that not only encouraged these aesthetic sensibilities, but literally outfitted those who wanted in on the trend.

Naturally, in the decades that followed, the style that once began as a cost-saving measure during the ‘40s—the style’s creator, Sylvia Pedlar, was encouraged to trim metres of her nightgowns during wartime fabric rations—became ubiquitous and a part of the cultural landscape in its own right.

In the past spring/summer 2026 season alone, many prolific designers who explore themes of girlhood, from Miuccia Prada to Chemena Kamali at Chloé, all presented varying interpretations of the shape. Elsewhere, many contemporary brands rooted in a dreamlike nostalgia and romanticism, including Dôen, Faithfull and If Only If, have made babydoll dresses a signature part of their brand identities. So, if wearing one is supposed to be this depraved act, why are they just so darling?

If anything, the overarching lesson to be gleaned from this palaver is that, subconsciously or not, this summer is set to be the season of the babydoll dress. Whether worn in overt retaliation to the criticism or proud defence of an innocuous shape, this style demands to be seen. And with Rodrigo’s new album, You Seem Pretty Sad for a Girl So in Love, on its way, it feels like the perfect backdrop to this phase of wearing whatever you want, how you want, lace-embellishments and all.

When I was in elementary school, I faked an eye exam because I really wanted glasses. Less than a week later, I admitted I couldn't actually see through the cute Coach frames I'd picked out (they had little hearts on the sides), and we quickly returned them. Both of my parents have worn glasses for as long as I can remember, so I'm sure there was some connection there.

All these years later, I still love eyewear. I've always been a sunglasses person and can't leave the house without them. Whenever I forget them, I insistently remark, "I wish I had sunglasses." For eyeglasses, I sometimes wear the Baby frames in black from Bonnie Clyde that got extremely popular a few seasons ago, and I've also been trying out The Meg from Jimmy Fairly. I stopped by Miu Miu's SoHo store in New York to try on the best-selling oval eyeglasses every fashion person knows and loves, and more recently, I visited the Akila store in Silver Lake during a trip to L.A. to see how Zoë Kravitz's go-to Alien frames looked on me. There's nothing quite like the first Monday in May, when the most prominent names in fashion, sports, Hollywood, and more come together for one night only to support the arts, and more specifically, the Metropolitan Museum of Art. It's fashion's biggest night, and this year's Met Gala cohosts and buzzy guests—Nicole Kidman! Venus Williams! Zoë Kravitz!—outdid themselves debuting jaw-dropping ensembles with art in mind. The dress code for 2026's ball is Fashion Is Art, which ties back to the Costume Institute's corresponding exhibition, Costume Art, and allows for plenty of varying interpretations. As a result, everyone joined the hosts and got creative, debuting masterpiece after masterpiece as they arrived at the base of the museum's carpeted steps.

Gigi Hadid is one such attendee, arriving on the Van Gogh–inspired carpet for her 11th Met Gala wearing a completely sheer, rhinestone-crusted gown by Miu Miu featuring flame and floral embroidery in gold, black, and silver. According to an interview with Vogue, she referenced two Miu Miu collections from the past—spring 1998 and spring 2011—taking the sheer base from the former and the embroidery from the latter. She paired the dress with a smattering of diamond jewelry by Jessica McCormack. I'm talking over 33 carats worth.

The result is a naked-dress outfit for the Met Gala record books—and an unexpected lingerie trend.

Given the translucent nature of her dress, you can easily spot the panties she chose to wear underneath it: a pair of cream cheeky underwear. Typically, it's thongs that we spot on the red carpet, so Hadid's cheeky style is an unexpected choice, one that will no doubt influence the way people shop for undergarments post-Met. All I'm saying is that the next time you go shopping for new undies, keep this look in mind.

With all of this year's Carolyn Bessette Kennedy talk and her signature Selima Optique sunglasses everywhere, I've been thinking about forever pieces that never really go out of style. It made me wonder, if you could only have one item per category in your closet, what would you choose?

My mind immediately goes to Jane Birkin and her Birkin—the pieces we reach for again and again that become part of our personal style. For months now, I've seen some version of tan suede sneakers everywhere I look. They're great, but sorry, I'm bored and ready for something new. More than any other season, summer is the time to wear the most fun pieces in our wardrobes—sneakers included. We've been focusing on sandals quite a lot lately, but I think we can all agree that sneakers are equally as crucial during summer, which brings me to Elsa Hosk.

We all know by now that Hosk is one of the chicest women on the planet, and if she wears something, you can guarantee that it's cool—no questions asked. Recently, she's been posting an array of warm-weather outfits, and one of them featured the pretty sneaker trend that's monopolizing the buzz right now: colorful satin sneakers.

In pop-culture terms, we’re emerging from a sexy Q1. First came Heated Rivalry, the spicy ice hockey drama that dropped on 10 January (The Guardian’s review opened with, "I suspect that Chala Hunter is still on a recuperative retreat somewhere. Until about May, I would think. For she was the intimacy coordinator on Heated Rivalry, and she has earned a break.") Next was Wuthering Heights, a film so hot under the collar that, after a screening for her girlfriends, Margot Robbie told Jimmy Kimmel, "It was the most unhinged experience of my life," describing the scene as "20 women frothing at the mouth". Hear that? Frothing.

By the time fashion month arrived, the runways were clearly in the mood. For his first show at Gucci, Demna Gvasalia harked back to the house’s sexiest era under another creative director: Tom Ford. Kate Moss wore the final look, a spangled high-neck column gown, its scooping back revealing a so-called "whale tail", logoed with interlocking Gs, naturally. There were also sculpted muscle tees, leggings with cut-outs on either hip and zippered leather pencil skirts (a slit darting up the left thigh). But whilst the runways dialled up the sex, the clothes outside were more demure—ladylike, even. The vibe wasn’t horny so much as housewifely, with the modernisation of garments such as aprons (courtesy of Miu Miu) and block-heeled pumps (Chanel).

If this sounds a little "trad wife"—the trend for women aspiring to be a traditional, "perfect" homemaker, complete with a certain twinset-and-pearls aesthetic—that’s not quite right. As Linda Cui Zhang, fashion director at Nordstrom, puts it, "We’ve ushered in a more romantic, feminine approach to dressing with spring that echoes the sensuality of the runway season." And, indeed, these echoes were felt on the streets during fashion month, with a sense of "real life" wearability. As Jenny Walton, author of upcoming book Jenny Sais Quoi: Adventures in Vintage & Personal Style, puts it, "Whilst a designer’s vision of a woman might show her at her sexiest, perhaps going to a show in the middle of the afternoon is not when one wants to broadcast their backside to the world. I think in real life, women primarily want to dress in a way that makes them feel comfortable, whatever that means to them."

Outside Miu Miu, Amalie Gassmann wore an outfit that one might consider traditionally ladylike, but not remotely buttoned-up, or (whisper it), boring. Instead, her cut-work lace apron-style top was tied over a sleeveless knit, whilst her skirt, also peekaboo, revealed "big knickers"—a silk pocket square folded over the waistband. It turned the idea of what dressing—or "acting"—like a "lady" entails. (Do you really think such an outfit belongs to a person who’s going to press their husband’s shirts or make sure dinner’s always on the table?) Susie Lau’s look for the Gucci show was similarly demure on the surface, featuring all kinds of ladylike flourishes: a floral scarf knotted under the chin, an oversized corsage and horsebit-embellished pumps, but the logo bag, bug-eye sunglasses and lack of hosiery made the overall picture read as "mob wife" instead of housewife.

All this to say that dressing in this way, almost cosplaying a traditional 1950s style, can be just as fun as dressing sexy, particularly in a season where the silhouettes are overarchingly 'womanly', with just a hint of what you might call frisson. If there’s one shoe brand I've been noticing editors and influencers wearing the most lately, it’s Tory Burch. From the resurgence of the early 2000s signature Reva ballet flat to the peep-toe pump, I keep spotting them all over New York. For 2026, it's the Romy Sport Mary Jane, which Jennifer Lawrence wore recently. According to the designer's website, the shoe is described as "a modern sneaker-ballet hybrid" and "lightweight and flexible."

I'm always excited for the dawn of spring. Warmer weather means impromptu aperol spritzes outside at corner bars, writing in my favorite cafes while sipping a strawberry matcha, and long aimless walks in the park with a friend just to feel the sun on my skin. For London-based brand founder and CEO of luxury resale platform Sellier, Hanushka Toni, she tells me that entry-level designer accessories are “a smart and low-pressure way onto the luxury ladder.” Speaking over email, she acknowledges that “whether it’s your first designer treat or a thoughtful add-on to your collection, these pieces deliver craftsmanship, instantly recognisable design, and a touch of brand heritage—all without the scary price tag.”

Of course, it would be remiss for me to boast in such broad strokes about the affordability of products that will still set you back hundreds of pounds. It’s not to say that these pieces are inexpensive by any means of the word, but more accessible than the higher end of the spectrum, which can sometimes reach into the thousands. Better still, these are pieces that will still hold their investment for years to come, knowing that you can invest a small amount of money in and still reap the benefits should you ever choose to part ways with the item later down the line.

So, where to start? “Belts, small leather goods, and compact bags from brands known for their materials and construction tend to age beautifully and hold their appeal,” explains Toni. “Scarves and costume jewellery can be fun entry points, but they’re far more trend-led; well-made leather pieces in timeless shapes simply have more staying power.”

It felt kismet, like everything I had ever done had led me to discover this secret gem. So, you can only imagine my surprise when I suddenly saw the same pair crop again on the feet of a stylish content creator the next day when I was aimlessly scrolling through Instagram. And again, when I was perusing the new in section of leading online fashion stores like MyTheresa and Farfetch.

Now, I don’t usually believe in love at first sight, especially when sartorial affairs of the heart were concerned, but the act of seeing these sumptuous satin trainers in quick succession after never noticing them previously felt like no coincidence.

Was this the admiration people talk about when they feel like they’ve found a forever piece? I’m usually one to be more pragmatic with my investments, deciding to bite the bullet and purchase something only after I’ve undergone the tedious mental arithmetic of working out the cost per wear and the precise number of pieces they could be paired with. But as a fashion writer who has made their passion for shopping and love for identifying covetable and nascent styles, you can surely sympathise with how besotted I became with the style.

It’s a desire that my chic colleagues can attest to, after rushing back to my desk to share my eureka moment and proclaim that this exact fabric and shoe shape would soon be everywhere. Which brings us here; explaining to you, dear reader, not only my logic, but the rationale for why satin trainers are the latest shoe trends to back.

Of course, part of this harks back to what I was saying about trusting someone’s gut instincts. As someone who has worked in the industry for over half a decade, it takes a lot for me to feel genuinely excited about something bubbling up on the horizon. This is especially as I know what it takes to manufacture a trend, with celebrity endorsements often paid for and never an accident.

And when it comes to trainers, I hate to say it, but I’ve always found the practical silhouette somewhat dull as a category. I can admire how sneakers have become a fashion staple in their own right. Still, I’d much rather covet something more charming or beautiful. Therein lies part of the appeal of satin trainers. Whilst retro, low-profile and technical iterations have reigned supreme in recent months, this style feels like the antithesis of the functional versions that serve as prototypes for the genre. They’ll still provide orthopaedic support and enable you to clock in thousands of steps, but the delicate satin finish offers a darling and saccharine element that sets them apart from their competitors.

Who else but Miuccia Prada to show this best? As a stringent acolyte of hers, it doesn’t take a lot to convince me that her subversive and intellectual approach to fashion is superior. In fact, on a recent trip to Florence, I resolved to spend a day at the Prada outlet instead of exploring the Tuscan city’s rich art galleries and cathedrals, imagining the sprawling discounted store as my own personal wardrobe to shop from.

For the uninitiated, Mrs. Prada is truly one of the most cerebral creative directors working today, meaning that everything she produces to be incredibly considered, pondered over and refined. Offering up a pair of satin trainers is by no means an accident, but a thoughtful successor to Miu Miu’s viral satin ballet flats that debuted on the brand’s autumn/winter 2022 collection all those years ago.

Alongside utilitarian silhouettes that distilled the brand’s more artistic side into a palatable look at conservative fashion and purposeful clothing, the legendary Milanese designer was offsetting these restrictive totes with darling sneakers that offered a lightness and elegance.

Another view is that satin, after a period where suede and leather dominated, was just the next logical material to utilise and make popular. Sure, there’s that too, but I’d rather take a kinder look at the trend and argue it injects an ethereal and glamorous element into ensembles during a time where dressing feels entirely ascetic. With this trend, we need not compromise on comfort for the sake of wearing something beautiful. Our austere uniform of funnel-neck jackets and straight-leg jeans can remain; it’s just about swapping out a stiffer shoe for something soft and polished.

Researching this piece, I’ve already noticed quite a lot of brands take up this mantle, with Dries Van Noten producing airy and glossy iterations of its viral trainer, to Grace Wales Bonner embracing this smooth texture in her latest collaboration with Adidas. This time around, we're getting a glimpse into a night out with Coco Gauff, world No. 2 tennis champion and Miu Miu Beauty's U.S. ambassador for Miutine Eau de Parfum.

When Frank Ocean comes on, nothing can stop Coco Gauff from having a great time—not even dehydration and over 2 million prying eyes on Instagram Live. I can hear the smile in the tennis star's voice as she details winning the 2025 French Open this past June, which culminated in a few celebratory toasts and, it turns out, her first brush with Paris nightlife. "I didn't really hydrate after the match. It was almost a three-hour match, and obviously, when you win, everybody's trying to hand you champagne. … And I didn't say no!" she trails off with a laugh. And who could blame her? Victory champagne, after all, has to taste a bit sweeter.

"My friends were there—the ones that were in Paris—and my team was with me, and I just had a great time," she continues. "I remember they played Frank Ocean [at the bar], and I love Frank Ocean. He was my number two most-listened-to artist this year. I went Live when that came on—everybody was scared that I was on Live. I was like, 'Bro, I just want to vibe out to Frank Ocean and share it with the people.' I sounded terrible, but it's okay." You don't really need to hit perfect high notes when you're delivering brilliant overhead smashes and serve speeds up to 128 miles per hour.

Clinching the French Open was certainly a special feat, accompanied by an equally special outing that, Gauff admits, isn't exactly the archetype of her post-match celebrations. "Tennis players, we don't get to go out often," she notes. On a normal night—well, as "normal" as you can be as the world No. 2 champion—she'll typically treat herself to her favorite TV show (Stranger Things, which she tells me she's "almost done with season four, so I’ll be caught up soon") and room service at her hotel if she’s playing late at night. "If I play early in the day, I'll try to make sure I go to dinner with my parents. Something pretty chill, because [when you're] still in the tournament, you're kind of just focused on the end," she adds.

When she does hit the town, however, she is nothing if not prepared. "When I go out, I feel like I need everything, not necessarily for myself but for other people," she shares. Gauff is for the girls—the reliable friend who always has a phone charger, tampon, mini perfume (Miutine, of course), piece of gum, or sanitizing wipe ("Because, you know, sometimes the tables are a little gross, and you've got to wipe it down") at the ready. I can picture her handing these goodies out to the group with a warm, Mary Poppins–esque efficiency—just swap the bottomless carpet bag for Miu Miu's Wander Matelassé. "It's the perfect size for going out," Gauff says of the luxurious nappa leather best-seller. "I'm not a big purse person, but you also need enough room to put all your little things."

You'll always find a travel-size fragrance tucked into Gauff's shoulder bag—specifically (and very apropos) Miu Miu's Miutine, for which Gauff is a U.S. ambassador, joining the likes of Paloma Elsesser and Chloë Sevigny. "Some people will spritz areas that you're 'supposed to.' I like to douse it," she shares. And there's no such thing as overapplication: "When I stop smelling it, that means it's time to reapply," she adds.

A visual person, Gauff doesn't categorize certain perfumes as "day" or "night" elixirs but rather matches them to specific outfits (imagine a spicy floral with wide-leg trousers, for example, or a mouthwatering gourmand with a sumptuous velvet coat). "If I'm wearing the same outfit all day, my fragrance will stay the same, but if I'm changing outfits, it can change," she explains. "Or if both outfits that I wear—one [during the] day and one at night—give the same vibe, I'll wear the same fragrance." Miutine, she says, suits both casual fits and going-out looks—though she'll always pair it with a skirt. "I feel like skirts are so Miu Miu," she notes. "Whenever I'm wearing a skirt of any sort, I have to reach for Miutine. Or whenever I'm wearing little kitten heels. I just feel like it gives that vibe."

When it comes to makeup, Gauff's on-the-go heroes ensure she has just the right amount of shine—that is, velvety, cloud-like skin and impossibly juicy lips. "I'm not really a matte lipstick girly, so I always have lip gloss. I hate the feeling of dry lips," she shares, praising Fenty Beauty's Gloss Bomb as her latest purse pick. "And then I'm also an oily skin girl, so I'll usually have some type of blotting powder or paper—anything that can get me matte." Fenty Beauty comes in clutch once again, namely the brand's Invisimatte Blotting Powder, which Rihanna herself famously used to touch up her T-zone midway through the 2023 Super Bowl Half-Time Show.

From there, she tosses in some last-minute staples, like a hair tie ("I get hot pretty easily," she quips) and the aforementioned sanitizing wipes. She's not so much of a brand loyalist in these areas; a hair tie is a hair tie—and who doesn't lose track of their elastics after a night out?—and she oscillates between gentle baby wipes and more intense Lysol packs. "It depends on where I'm going, but I like to keep some sort of wipe with me," she adds.

Gauff, it seems, is not the type to carry multiple lip combos or touch up her brows in the middle of a crowded bar. Still, whether she's out late or having a quiet, post-match fête all to herself, she relies on her nighttime beauty routine to help her feel centered—and, in a way, celebrated. "In tournaments, I'm actually better at doing [my skincare routine] than when I'm at home. I just feel like it's a way for me to unwind and reflect. Maybe put some music on in the background…" She also never ends a night without a final spritz of perfume, a ritual that practically whispers cozy elegance. "I'm one of those people that puts on fragrance before I go to [bed]," she says. "Usually, it drifts me to sleep." I have to imagine the bedtime scent she pairs with her pajamas (Miu Miu's striped poplin set, maybe?) is just as chic.

Ever since Matthew Macfadyen’s cunning interloper character Tom Wambsgans introduced the conception of a “ludicrously capacous” bag in the final season of HBO’s Succession, fashion insiders have been embracing the merits of an oversized tote bag more than ever before.

Inherently cavernous and celebrity-approved—you only need look at Jacob Elordi’s hoards of oversized intrecciato-leather Bottega Veneta carry-alls for proof of the shape’s popularity—these supersized utilitarian accessories have become a symbol of the effortlessly elegant aesthetic that’s currently reigning supreme.

However, for 2026, a more specific mode is emerging in the way that a certain occupation is inspiring the trendiest bag silhouette. Now, it’s not secretarial top-handles or bourgeois lawyerly briefcases, but a doctor’s bag.

When I first heard murmurs about the rise of the doctor’s-bag trend, an image of a old-fashioned, clinical design containing medical devices like stethoscopes, thermometers and that incredibly silly reflex hammer for knee-hitting sprang to mind. After first spying this trend in cult pre-loved fashion platform The RealReal’s annual luxury resale report, I couldn’t really comprehend exactly the style that was being outlined as the next big thing. Was the data really telling us to carry something that Meredith Grey or Nurse Ratched would wear to work? Not quite.

What Is the Doctor's-Bag Trend?

Speaking to Noelle Sciacca, associate director of fashion and strategic partnerships at The RealReal, she explains that doctor’s bags are "a structured style with a true rectangle shape and usually include a zipper closure and shorter double strap handles." Certainly less sterile and far more sophisticated than I had pictured. Sciacca told me that the shape of the doctor’s bag is the common thread that ties some of the most popular rising styles together, with "average selling prices and searches up 25% and 24% this year, respectively."

In a world where wellness culture prevails—the industry is reported to hit USD $9 trillion by 2028—it’s fitting that a style with medical origins soars to an all-time high demand. If you look at the designers who are pioneering the trend, you’ll also notice that this is a notion they’ve mined for a while now.

"I credit the release of Miu Miu’s Beau bag with sparking the doctor’s-bag resurgence,” says Sciacca. “The brand has a knack for presenting accessories in ways that create viral demand for specific styles."

However, even long before the spring/summer 2023 collection that delivered us the bag, Miuccia Prada had been exploring the concept of uniform dressing through the codes of healthcare. For instance, Prada’s autumn/winter 2023 show, which was aptly titled Take Care, saw nurses' skirts flipped into something visually poetic thanks to the addition of embellished rosettes.

Though I’m not suggesting that the adopters of this trend are necessarily consciously subverting the GP dress code, I can’t help but draw parallels between the doctor’s bag becoming a thing and the post-pandemic world that we live in today. After all, aren’t we more hygiene-conscious than ever? Especially living in London, I think this is the perfect bag style for someone who methodically rubs anti-bac gel into their hands after commuting and drinks a daily gut-health shot to ensure their immunity is boosted to max capacity.

Now that you have your doctor's bag sorted, we're not expecting you to walk around town wearing it with a matching stark white lab coat or candy-stripe uniform. Instead, the outfits that proponents of the trend are wearing actually embrace the more austere motifs associated with the bag's origins.

Take Kendall Jenner, for instance. For an appearance at The Row's Paris Fashion Week runway show back in 2023, the reality star and supermodel sported the brand's famed Margaux bag, a cropped trench coat and a tailored pencil skirt, which evoked the pure lines and clean palette associated with the trend.

Sciacca tells me that the Margaux style itself is also one of the most prominent examples of the doctor's bag trend. "Whilst the style isn’t particularly new, it reached peak popularity the last few years, even selling for 108% above its original retail price on The RealReal," she notes. "It sparked a renewed desire for top-handle bags in clean, streamlined silhouettes."

This softer shape also appeared in the Olsen Twins' recent spring 2025 collection, as seen on Italian model Mariacarla Boscono alongside a lace-trim silk skirt, pinstriped shirt, cashmere knit and mesh boots.

Elsewhere in London, content creator Marilyn Nwawulor-Kazemaks sported her doctor's bag with a more contemporary outfit, including an on-trend windbreaker, barrel-leg trousers, flannel shirt and retro suede trainers.

Of course, you can also throw caution to the wind and take a page from Sydney-based influencer and writer Ali Whittle's style playbook. These glittery mesh flats might be a violation for the operating room, and you certainly won't see them allowed in any surgery, but given the bag's more architectural shape, the juxtaposition between the silhouettes feels right to bring a sense of individuality to a more sombre bag.

Generally, who are your biggest beauty inspirations, and why?

I've always been drawn to women who don't overthink beauty, who wear it like a feeling rather than a performance—the ones who'll swipe on a red lip to go get groceries or put on fragrance before bed just for themselves. It's less about perfection, more about self-possession. That's the energy of Miutine to me. It's deeply personal and doesn't ask for approval.

You're often complimented on your soft skin. What's your secret?

Honestly, part of it is genetics, but I really pride myself on taking care of all of my skin. It's the body's largest organ; it deserves care and attention. I love [the] Soft Services Buffing Bar. It has these exfoliating crystals that make your skin feel brand-new. I use it everywhere—elbows, arms, all of it. Then I go in with L'Occitane's bodywash, which transforms from an oil to a cleanser. It's iconic. It gives the skin back so much moisture. After a shower, I always pat dry and seal everything in with lotion.

What are the splurge-worthy beauty treatments you'd say are 100% worth it?

A facial with someone who really sees your skin—not just the products or machines but that intuitive understanding of what you need that day. I also love massages. I actually have a massage bed at home, and I get them pretty regularly, especially lymphatic ones. They reset everything, body and mind.

You are the newest U.S. ambassador for Miu Miu Beauty's just-launched fragrance, Miutine. Congrats! How do you define the word "Miutine"?

For me, Miutine means letting your contradictions exist without trying to tidy them. [It's] being soft and strong, playful and grounded at the same time. That's what beauty has always meant to me—being multiple and being okay with that.

I'm so obsessed with the fragrance—it's playful and sweet yet sophisticated. What do you enjoy most about Miutine?

It has this duality I love. It starts bright—that wild strawberry, that lightness—and then settles into something deeper and warmer. It evolves the way a mood does.

What is your first fragrance memory?

My mom, always. The way her scent would linger after she left a room. That quiet trace of her, it taught me that fragrance isn't about being noticed. It's about being remembered.

Are you someone who typically switches up your fragrance depending on your mood, your outfit, the seasons, etc.? Or do you tend to stick to a signature scent?

I switch depending on how I'm feeling (scent is emotional for me), but I always come back to one or two that feel like home. Miutine has that ability to shift with me but still feel like mine.

Fragrance-related compliments are the best. When someone tells me I smell good, that's such a win. What's the best compliment you've received while wearing Miutine?

Someone said it smelled like me. Not like perfume—like my energy. That's when you know it's right.

1. The Chloé Paddington

Twenty years after the first release on the spring/summer 2005 runways, the Chloé Paddington bag hit the runways once more for autumn/winter 2025. The pull was instant, drawing in a long waiting list that mirrored the original's extensive pre-orders, with stylish people setting their clocks against the launch time of this long-beloved bag.

The original style was created under the then Creative Director Phoebe Phil, a name that will come up again in this list of returning It bags.
