"We wanted to do something vampy and CND’s Bordeaux Babe ($17) is the perfect shade to bring that to life," Boyce said in a press release. "I mixed this with the clear No-Wipe+ Top Coat ($17) to create a jelly, see-through bloody nail look on a long almond-shaped design. This was Megan's first public appearance since announcing her pregnancy so we wanted a classic but punchy nail look to complement her beautiful lace-detailed outfit."

Call me easily influenced, but any time a celebrity (especially one like Megan Fox) reveals their skincare secrets, my ears tend to perk up. Recently, I really sat up a little straighter when I was scrolling on Instagram and my eagle eye spotted a comment Fox wrote to someone on her Instagram post, detailing a bit more about her skincare routine. This is major because honestly, Fox is pretty tight-lipped about what she uses most days. Believe me, I've gone down quite a few Google holes trying to find out, because the woman has pretty perfect skin. To my surprise (and delight), I discovered that Fox has a brand in her arsenal that I've also been using lately, Plated Skin Science.

Plated has gained popularity among celebrity aestheticians and makeup artists like Jo Baker, who used the brand's Daily Serum on Sandra Huller to give her a glow for the Oscars. The brand utilizes a buzzy ingredient called exosomes, which promote glowing, youthful skin. To give you the TL;DR, exosomes are vesicles that skin cells naturally secrete. They contain important growth factors, RNA, and other things that skin cells need to function. Plated calls its specific type of exosomes "Renewosome" technology, which is infused with a growth factor complex and potent antioxidants that protect the skin against environmental stressors.

The brand currently carries two serums, Intense Serum ($258) and Daily Serum ($258). I'm not totally sure which one Fox uses, but since the Intense Serum is designed to be used for a shorter period of time (containing the brand's highest concentration of exosomes), she most likely uses the daily option.

As recommended by the brand, I started with the Intense Serum. After you finish one bottle of this, the brand recommends continuing with its Daily Serum for continued maintenance. For starters, I know this is an expensive product—growth factor– and exosome-rich products often are, unfortunately. I am, however, always an advocate for high-end skincare as long as it works. I can definitely report that I've seen a positive difference in my skin after using the Intense Serum for a month. I've been struggling with breakouts, dehydration, and skin barrier damage, and for the first time in a while, my skin is starting to look fresh and healthy again.

This serum really helps speed up wound healing, which is key if you're dealing with acne. I did a series of chemical peels recently, so I've been experiencing a lot of skin purging, but this serum has made a huge difference. Not only does it help fade dark spots, but it also helps reduce the redness and inflammation breakouts can bring. Additionally, my skin has more of a glow to it and I've noticed an improvement in my deep laugh lines. I'm excited to see how my skin looks after finishing a bottle of the Intense Serum. After that, I'll move on to the Daily Serum.

2. Candlelit Brunette

If you’re after a subtler hair transformation, Petty says that every hair colour and texture can easily embrace this trend. "Candlelit hair uses low-contrast and mid-tone highlights to give the hair a warm and reflective feel as if it were glistening in firelight or candlelight,” she explains. "It’s also a perfect way to add dimension and brightness to flat and one-toned hair.”

Instead, a warmer, golden blonde will be perfect for nailing this trend.

4. Gemini Hair

Petty predicts that we’ll see more of people mixing their natural hair colours with bright shades. "Gemini hair is a fun two-tone style,” she says. "Inspired by its astrological namesake, this will make you stand out from the crowd and allow you to express your personality.” For dark hair, Petty recommends using pinks, purples, greens, and blues, and for light hair she suggests blues, greens, reds, yellows, and black. "If you are concerned about your hair coping with a colour treatment, opt for more natural colour choices that will cause less damage and are easier to maintain,” she advises. "To maintain the colour, try to wash your hair less frequently, use a heat protectant when styling, and use plenty of hair masks to moisturise and nourish your hair.”

If you're after a low-maintenance approach to this trend, avoid adding colour at your roots (where regular top-ups will be needed), and keep it to the lengths and ends instead.

5. Glossy Brunette

Proving that brown hair doesn’t have to be boring, this particular colour trend is all about finish. For a glossy, shiny effect, you’ll need to focus on hydrating your hair via masks, serums, and oils. And if you’re not a natural brunette, consider using a cool-toned brown dye, which will lend hair the desired bright, glassy finish.

6. Peachy Rose

"Whilst ash and platinum blonde hair have been more popular in recent years, 2023 will see the rise of peachy rose blonde,” predicts Petty. "This is a perfect shade for those looking to make a fun and colourful change and is a great way to transition from winter to brighter spring and summer. While this trend is best for blonde hair, as pink takes more easily to light hair, it is still possible to achieve this look in darker hair colours. "To maintain the colour, dye your hair slightly brighter than the goal colour, as the hue will inevitably fade and tone down after a few washes,” says Petty. "Additionally, aim to use shampoo and conditioner targeted towards damaged hair to nourish it as much as possible.”

Adding deeper colour lower in the lengths of your hair helps to add dimension when experimenting with lighter colours.

7. Expensive Blonde

Expensive blonde is all about soft contrast and golden tones, and while the overall effect is incredibly natural, it can require a time-consuming and costly process involving both highlights and lowlights to really nail this trend. Essentially, you’ll need to ask for more than one shade of blonde—and expect to spend several hours in the salon chair.

8. Natural Grey

It's a 10-in-1 product, so it does everything from repairing damaged hair and split ends to detangling, preventing flyaways, and providing shine. 

Before reaching for any heat tools, Fitzsimons sprayed her hair all over with this volumizing product in an effort to lift her roots and add flexible texture. Once that was done, he gave her hair a blowout and curled it with a one-inch curling iron. 

From there, he pulled a large section of her hair out from the front and parted it to frame her face. He took the rest into a high ponytail and sprayed this texture spray throughout for an undone, touseled effect. "Using my finger, I pulled out small sections of the ponytail and curled them around my finger, pinning them back into the ponytail one by one to create a messy-bun effect," he says. 

The final step was to use this strong-hold hair spray so her style wouldn't budge. All in all, it's not too difficult of a style to re-create, right? And it's definitely not too tough on your wallet.

One thing you have to realize about trends is that they always come back around eventually. With the return of the Y2K aesthetic, I was waiting for the moment I'd spot another star in a trucker hat, and that day has come. The trucker hat was popularized by celebrities in the '00s thanks to brands like Von Dutch, Ed Hardy, and Palm Angels. Collective memory may have tried to suppress the grip this trend had on us all, but it seems that celebrities are ready again to bring it back into the fold.

It's been spotted on a few stars, including our former cover star Megan Fox, and it's also been donned by the one and only Rihanna. History tells us time and again that when she pulls up to the function serving a 'fit, it's bound to be the next big thing. And if anyone can convince us to give the trucker hat a second trial run, it's Rihanna.

4. Low-Rise Pants, Rebooted

WHO: Doja Cat

WEAR: Ottolinger outfit

I hate to break it to you, but low-rise pants have not only managed to reenter the chat, but they also keep trying to chime into the conversation. We knew it was coming when we began to spot low-rise hemlines on the runway, but when celebrities started wearing them in the street again, it was a clear sign this divisive style will stick around. While most of us may still feel traumatized by the fashion mishaps that occurred when test-driving this trend the first time around, it seems that this trend has found a second life beyond the traditional denim iterations of the past.

WHO: Bella Hadid

WEAR: Chanel sunglasses and necklace; Bezva pants; Miista Brenda Black Boots ($520)

In fact, low-rise pieces have found a new life among the stars, including A-listers like Doja Cat, Hailey Bieber, and Bella Hadid. But what makes this trend a bit more forward in 2022 is that it comes as everything from leggings to leather pants to relaxed trousers. The return of this waistline in these new forms makes it a bit more polished and—dare I say—wearable. Only time will tell if this trend tracks well beyond the spotlight, but it's safe to say that it has gotten a reboot.

5. Panties Out

WHO: Normani

WEAR: Fendi bag

If you feel like I'm roasting you right now, I can promise I'm not. At the beginning of this story, I told you that this would be a roundup of the most eye-catching trends being worn by the celebrity set. There was no disclaimer that they're actually functional or traditionally "fashionable." And that's very much the case with the rise in what I can only really call "panties out." Part of this trend stems from the visible-G-string movement that was popular in the '90s and recently bubbled up again in the past few years—most notably when Bieber wore a visible G-string to the 2019 Met Gala. But since this, this trend has continued to proliferate in various ways.

WHO: Rina Sawayama

There are the more traditional iterations of this trend, where you're just showing the whale tail—just look at the denim miniskirt with a visible panty line above spotted on Normani. But there are also the even more drastic takes of this trend, where you're getting a dramatic cutout in the most risqué spots. I'm referencing the butt-cutout dress Lizzo wore at a 2019 Lakers game and this crotch-cutout situation being donned by musician Rina Sawayama. Is it stylish? I can't say, but you have to give the girlies credit for putting it all out there (quite literally).

6. Sky-High Platforms

WHO: Olivia Rodrigo

WEAR: Dsquared2 dress; Heaven by Marc Jacobs Multi Buckle Kiki Boots

Another trend that's bubbling up among the fashion and celeb sets? Sky-high platform shoes. Of course, it should be noted that platforms have always procured a few side-eyes—partly due to their impracticality and sometimes because the overly chunky look evokes those mid-2000s shoes that were not that cute. But newer iterations of this trend and fresh takes on the styling from celebrities have brought back the hype around these shoes.

WHO: Lady Gaga

WEAR: Christopher John Rogers Strawberry Dress; Pleaser Flamingo 1050 Boots

While there are dramatic ways to style this shoe trend—just look to Olivia Rodrigo wearing buckle-up knee-high platform heels with a plaid minidress and Lady Gaga donning a bubble dress and sky-high stilettos—you can embrace this trend without fear of breaking an ankle or doing too much. The key to pulling it off lies in opting for new iterations of the style (e.g., those viral Versace Medusa platforms or Barbie-heel platform mules). There are much more modest ways to make this trend work for your taste; you just have to be willing to try it out.

7. Doin' the Bare Minimum

WHO: Kendall Jenner

Hopefully, you've realized that, while we may initially dislike a red carpet or street style look donned by a celebrity, we love the act of hating on it and eventually adopting it ourselves. After all, what would life be without the people who take fashion risks without fear of ridicule? Forget the boring red carpet looks; we need celebrities to push the boundaries of what's "socially acceptable" and set the stage for trends to come. And the most recent pushing includes the sudden embrace of lingerie worn in the streets. There was the naked dress and the visible G-string, and now, there is just baring it all. The celebrity set has embraced the latter feverously as of late.

WHO: Julia Fox

I'm thinking of Kendall Jenner and Rihanna donning the Miu Miu F/W 22 runway look where crystal-netted and lace pieces are layered over silky underwear. I'm also reminded of when Julia Fox was shopping at the grocery store in nothing but her underwear, a denim blazer, and matching boots. It's a look that begs the question, Did you even try to get dressed? It toes the line between naked and dressed, risqué and redundant, bizarre and forward thinking. It is a trend that is all of it simultaneously.

But no matter how you feel about this trend or any of the other ones in this story, you can't deny the following truth: The style icons in this story give us the bare minimum of what stars should provide—a look. You can't be an icon if you're not giving us something to talk about, think about, and maybe even test-drive for ourselves. Risk-taking is a part of the job, and if it's done right, you'll be cemented into the zeitgeist forever.

No matter how much bold eyeliner or colorful eye shadow might be trending, sometimes a nude eye look is just what the doctor ordered. Nude eye shadow is so versatile you can wear it to work or pair it with a bold lip for a night out. It's always elegant and timeless.

Now, I know what you're thinking. Nude eye shadow is just code for "boring," but I promise that could not be further from the truth. Nude eye shadow may be subtler than bold eye looks, but with the right inspiration and products, it can be exciting. Think showstopping smoky eyes and eye-catching shimmer. Issa Rae's makeup is always on point. While the actress looks great in bolder eye looks, I'm obsessed with this more neutral look. Golden, shimmery shades and precise black eyeliner help draw attention to her eyes.

Leave it to Megan Fox to make nude eye shadow look edgy with the addition of a dark, vampy lip. If you ask me, though, her neutral eye shadow look is doing work here. Shimmery shadow and a highlighted inner corner look amazing on her. 

The Look: Smoky Brown Tones

We love this bold, smoked-out eye shadow look on Laura Harrier. To achieve the same result, go for a neutral palette with lots of brown shades and a brown pencil liner that's easy to blend out. I recommend one like Makeup by Mario's, which has a blending tool on the end. 

The Look: Champagne Shadow

Jessica Alba's look is so simple, but it packs a punch. Apply a wash of champagne shadow all over your lids, making sure to blend out the edges so it looks natural and not harsh. Go in with an eyeliner crayon to create a diffused wing. 

The Look: Peach Tones

Peach eye shadow looks dreamy when you have warm undertones like Lana Condor. Opt for a semi-matte shade with a subtle shimmer, and use it all over the lid for a wash of neutral color. Top off the look with a sharp wing. 

The Look: Espresso Smoky Eye

Espresso shades look good on just about everyone, and Zoey Deutch proves how wearable an espresso-toned smoky eye is. Take a page out of Deutch's book, and make this look all about eyebrows by accentuating yours with a fine-tipped brow pencil, like Kimiko's Super Fine Eyebrow Pencil Automatique, which helps create hairlike strokes.

Sometimes, you don't realize something is gone until you see or hear about it again, and that may be the case with leopard-print shoes. A few years ago, you couldn't leave the house without seeing spotted shoes. They may have been in the form of heels, sneakers, ballet flats, or ankle boots, all of which are hard to miss. Then at some point post-2018, they went into hibernation. The thing about animal prints is that they always return. History has proven this over and over. Despite many people's aversion to the style, the bootcut-jeans trend that dominated the denim world from the late '90s to the end of the '00s appears to be making a comeback, and it's Megan Fox who's leading the charge. I’m a natural brunette, but when it comes to changing my hair color, I’ve always opted to go lighter. For years, I’ve changed my hair with highlights, balayage, and even ombré, when that was a thing. Just this past August, I got a new round of highlights and opted to go for a shade of sandy blonde.

Recently, I’ve been itching to make a major change. Megan Fox provides beauty inspiration in many aspects, but I couldn’t stop thinking about her hair color. It’s the perfect dark, chocolaty, almost-black brown, with so much shine it might as well be reflective.

After asking pretty much everyone I know if they thought I could pull off Megan Fox’s hair color (most people said yes but made sure I knew it wouldn’t make me look like Megan Fox), I finally decided to take the plunge and try the color for myself.

I went to Nikki Lee, Garnier consulting celebrity colorist, who gave me the dark hair of my dreams. To help you achieve the dark hair you’ve been dreaming of, I spoke with Lee and Andrew Fitzsimons, a celebrity hairstylist who works with Megan Fox herself, to get the lowdown on going dark, maintaining your new color, and the products you absolutely need.

What should I know before dyeing my hair dark?

Commit to the color. Keep in mind that you'll be coloring your hair all over, so you should plan to commit to darker hair for a while, according to Lee. "You don't want to flip-flop back and forth from light to dark and vice versa, as this can cause damage to your hair."

Consult a stylist. "It may seem easy to grab a box dye from the beauty aisle in a drugstore. However, you're probably not going to achieve the exact color you are going for," says Fitzsimons. "Always consult with your stylist or colorist about your desired color so they can customize the right products for your hair type."

Patch-test the hair dye. Fitzsimons warns that dyes can be harsh on skin, so you should do a small patch test to ensure you don't have an allergic reaction before covering your head in dye. 

What should I know about going darker based on my base color and hair texture?

"If you have a lighter color to begin with, it might take a few times for the dark color to take, so fading might occur, which is totally normal," says Lee. If your hair is dark to begin with, going darker should be fairly easy for you. 

When it comes to your hair texture, always make sure you're going to a stylist who's familiar with your hair type. Lee emphasizes that fine hair might grab color more quickly than thicker hair, which may require an extra layer of color.

What should I know about upkeep for dark hair?

"Simple tips to help preserve and maintain colored hair include not over-washing, using sulfate-free and color-safe products, deep-conditioning often, and refreshing your shade in between applications with a color enhancer to add temporary pigment between washes and restore vibrancy," says Fitzsimons. He recommends only washing hair once or twice a week to avoid stripping hair of its natural oils, which can cause damaged follicles.

The naked-dress trend is back, people, and it's more naked than ever. While this look doesn't ever seem to fade away, it's definitely packing quite the punch for 2022, including at this year's Met Gala. We've seen various iterations of the trend over the years, but right now, it seems to fit in one of two camps: a skin-color body-con dress or a barely there dress that's transparent or sheer or has a strategically placed piece of material (or even a combination of all three).

The naked dress has a long history, of course. Those who are big Cher fans (and who isn't?) will recall the star's dedication to creations by designer Bob Mackie, who regularly designed risqué items for the singer. Before that, however, there was Marilyn Monroe's infamous sheer dress she wore in 1962 to sing happy birthday to President John F. Kennedy.

The coolest takes on it—and perhaps my personal favorites—include Jane Birkin in 1969 and Kate Moss in 1993 both wearing sheer dresses with black knickers. It's the more understated way of doing the nude-dress trend. 

But in recent years, this trend has gone full glamour. Rihanna's 2014 CFDA look and Beyoncé's Met Gala 2015 dress by Givenchy made headlines for being pretty naked. In 2019, Kim Kardashian West's wet-look Mugler creation definitely ticked off the naked-dress trend box thanks to its body-con aesthetic and color.

Over the past couple of weeks, I've spotted loads of naked dresses on the red carpet, which proves that this trend is officially back. First, Zendaya wore a leather Balmain dress at the Venice Film Festival. Then, Megan Fox wore a Mugler frock (another wet-look gown from the designer) to the VMAs. Then on Monday, we were treated to a variety of barely there dresses at the Met Gala—the first to take place since the pandemic. But the ones leading the pack on the naked-dress trend here were Kendall Jenner's pretty diamanté Givenchy gown and Zoë Kravitz's mesh Saint Laurent dress.

Normally, I'd give you some tips on how to do the trend IRL, but this is quite the tricky look to pull off down your local. Instead, if this is something you're drawn to, perhaps it's worth taking inspiration from the current looks and toning it down so you won't look so conspicuous when drinking a glass of rosé.

Style Notes: One of the coolest looks from the Met Gala 2021, Zoë Kravitz's Saint Laurent mesh frock is barely there, but she still manages to look super sophisticated.

Since the Transformers film franchise catapulted the actress to megastardom in 2007, she’s remained a fixture in Hollywood, starring in a series of action-packed thrillers; earning cult status in the indie favourite Jennifer’s Body; and, as one New York Times article put it, serving as a "universal barometer of hotness.” But after a few years of flying under the radar, she’s making a massive return to the spotlight with a fresh perspective, a new fashion aesthetic, and a much-buzzed-about relationship. So yeah, it seems a reintroduction is in order.

To say that Fox has been making headlines lately is an understatement. Fashion outlets have been abuzz with coverage of her street style. A new, younger audience has been busy turning Fox’s boy-eating character in Jennifer’s Body into a feminist hero. And of course, the rest of us can’t stop talking about her relationship with rapper Colson Baker aka Machine Gun Kelly (or meticulously unpacking their style as a couple). It’s not that we’re necessarily privy to a new version of the actress. She’s still the same Fox—just wiser, more sure of herself, and a hell of a lot less willing to invest emotional energy into what anyone says.

I caught up with Fox as she was waiting to board a flight (remember those?) for what’s now a busy press circuit promoting two upcoming films she has out this summer. Chalk it up to my fuzzy speakerphone or the fact that, for her, it was a travel day, but I picked up on a slight haziness in her voice. Whatever it was quickly dissipated as she described the atmosphere of our cover shoot that took place in L.A. just a few days prior. "I was pretty sick,” she admitted. "I thought, ‘Oh, God. I don't know if I’m gonna be able to pull this off.’” Spoiler: She did. There’s a twinge of a Southern accent in her voice, a slight twang that flattens out the vowels. She spoke candidly, slipping in a "well, shit” or "oh, fuck” as casually as some people would unconsciously say "like” or "um.” You realise she’s not pretending to be anyone or anything. She’s not putting it on. Speaking to someone with such name recognition as Fox, I found it delightfully disarming to hear her describe her style as "Hot Topic meets Middle America” or share her reactions to things—many things—as a resolute, "Oh, fuck no.” Despite her uncontrived nature, there’s no question that Megan Fox knows exactly who she is, a fact that was reinforced over and over throughout the course of our conversation.

That’s not to say the self-assuredness she now embodies didn’t come at a price. For the majority of her career, Fox has faced intense scrutiny, has often been buried under a barrage of harsh and outright sexist media coverage, and has had several of her movies written off as total flops. One example in particular comes to mind: a clip that resurfaced last year of a 2009 interview she’d done with Jimmy Kimmel. In it, she expresses how she was sexualized in Hollywood as a teen, and Kimmel basically responds by making a joke of it. The whole ordeal has since sparked conversations about the unfair treatment the actress endured at the hands of the media. Fox’s defense mechanism? To simply block out all the noise. In front of the camera since the age of 15, she has navigated an industry that has been, shall we say, less than kind to her. In turn, she’s become one of the rare examples of celebrities who have managed to not just fold, and she has come back even stronger. Never one to let the critics deter her (at least outwardly), she has pushed forward at a pretty consistent clip. She’s starred in at least one feature film almost every year since 2007, but for most of that time, she stayed out of the public eye and avoided social media. "I spent so many years just hiding,” she said, reflecting on that time. A decade and some change later, she’s finally ready to let her audience see her fully. 

The kind of transformation Fox is going through may be subtle and may be a largely internal one, but it manifests most clearly in her newfound relationship with fashion. Last fall, Fox began working with Maeve Reilly—the styling force behind some of the most talked-about celebrity looks—and together, the duo have already created some pretty memorable ensembles with the headlines to show for it. The ultra-cutout Mugler dress she wore to the Billboard Music Awards, anyone? How about the blazer-and-crystal-mesh-bra combo she was casually spotted in? Fox may have joined the sartorial ranks of A-listers like Hailey Bieber and Ciara, but before moving in this new direction, she said with a laugh, "I was kind of rebelling against all of that. I wasn’t opening myself up to fashion at all.”

She joked about their partnership being an uphill battle for Reilly ("she basically threw away my entire closet, which was garbage anyway”), but Reilly is also challenging Fox with looks outside her comfort zone. For instance, Fox told me how nervous she was to step out in that threadbare Mugler dress in the first place. "I was like, ‘Fuck no. I'm not wearing this.’” The risk ultimately paid off as we know, so trusting in the process and staying open are becoming her new MO. 

As I’m coming to learn, like most things in Fox’s life, it’s all about trusting in the universe’s bigger plan. "When I met [Colson Baker], I knew instantly that this is a soul I’ve travelled with before, that this was a soul-mate connection, and that there was a purpose here,” she explained. But it wasn’t without hesitation on her part: "There was my logical brain chiming and being like, ‘This will never work for 101 reasons.’” It was a classic case of head versus heart, and she told me she even went so far as to make a pro/con list. In the end, her heart won out.

It’s an exciting time to watch Fox step into this new chapter, and there are two opportunities to see her take to the big screen again this summer. The first comes in the blood-drenched horror flick Till Death, in which Fox’s character, Emma, attempts to free herself from the shackles that quite literally tie her to her late husband. "It had been a minute since I was in this genre, if I’ve ever been in the genre at all,” she mused. "Jennifer’s Body isn’t a horror, really. It’s more like a dark comedy. [Till Death] was something I hadn’t done before. It felt fresh to me.” Next comes Midnight in the Switchgrass, an edge-of-your-seat thriller that Fox said she felt guided to be a part of. "It was definitely a vehicle—I’ll be honest—for me to meet Colson,” she laughed. ICYMI, the two notably met on the set of the film last year. "I knew he was gonna be in the movie, but the universe was just like, ‘Go do this. There’s something about this experience that’ll be really rewarding for you.’” 

This calling or greater purpose was by no means limited to Switchgrass. When you consider Fox’s decade-long acting career, it may be tempting to view her through the lens of Hollywood’s deeply rooted misogyny and write off her roles as serving some ambiguous "hot girl” archetype as critics always have. But she takes a more purposeful, if not metaphysical, approach to the whole of her career. "Sometimes, you can just tell something about [an acting role],” she insisted, her voice taking on a sense of urgency. "Like, this is going to change me as a person. That’s what I want for my life: to constantly be evolving and growing.” Instinct, I now realise, is what guides Fox in every endeavor in her life. It’s her North Star. "I was never playing chess,” she added. "It has always been a game of intuition as to whether something resonated with me or not.”

Intuition, the universe, a higher calling—these weren’t always a part of Fox’s lexicon. It took years of enduring a constant stream of criticism for her to reach a pivotal point—a breakthrough, if you will—that changed everything for her. Toward the end of 2019, she was on location in Africa filming Rogue and happened to encounter one of her previous movies that had been pretty critically panned. "I’d been brutally reviewed for it,” she audibly shuddered. "I never watch the movies I do. My biggest fear is to watch and listen to myself.” Alas, she watched it anyway, and it was at that moment she was able to see herself objectively for the first time. "Wait, I’m not bad at it,” she said of her thought process at the time. "Also, this isn’t a bad movie. In fact, it’s totally fine. I can’t believe it got put through the ringer the way that it did.” Seeing the movie with fresh eyes was only one part of it. Validating her entire acting experience was another. "I can’t believe that I allowed myself to accept I was not good at this or that I had any sort of self-esteem issues based on how this movie was received,” she continued. "That caused me to sit and realise that I was sort of putting myself in a mental prison for the last decade. I decided that I just wasn’t going to be afraid anymore. I’m not going to live another day in fear. That was a shift in consciousness where I was like, ‘Fuck this. I'm just… I’m not going to be afraid anymore.’” Talk about a wake-up call.

Fox may be in the spotlight once again, but this time, she’s fully in control. Or rather, she’s fully in control of herself. Yes, the paparazzi seem to follow her every move these days, and yes, she’s once again the subject of the news cycle, but you might notice, for instance, how she’s still not very active on social media. That’s by design. When I inquired about whether keeping her Instagram comments turned off was another form of self-protection, her perspective was one of nonattachment. "People are conflicted and need a place to project their unhappiness. That will often come out on celebrities,” she declared. "That’s kind of what we’re for.” You can bet, then, that no matter what people have said in the past, are saying now, or will say at any point in the future about Megan Fox, she’ll be blissfully tuning them out.

I wasn’t opening myself up to fashion at all.”

She joked about their partnership being an uphill battle for Reilly ("she basically threw away my entire closet, which was garbage anyway”), but Reilly is also challenging Fox with looks outside her comfort zone. For instance, Fox told me how nervous she was to step out in that threadbare Mugler dress in the first place. "I was like, ‘Fuck no. I'm not wearing this.’” The risk ultimately paid off as we know, so trusting in the process and staying open are becoming her new MO. 

As I’m coming to learn, like most things in Fox’s life, it’s all about trusting in the universe’s bigger plan. "When I met [Colson Baker], I knew instantly that this is a soul I’ve traveled with before, that this was a soul-mate connection, and that there was a purpose here,” she explained. But it wasn’t without hesitation on her part: "There was my logical brain chiming and being like, ‘This will never work for 101 reasons.’” It was a classic case of head versus heart, and she told me she even went so far as to make a pro/con list. In the end, her heart won out.

It’s an exciting time to watch Fox step into this new chapter, and there are two opportunities to see her take to the big screen again this summer. The first comes in the blood-drenched horror flick Till Death (in theaters now), in which Fox’s character, Emma, attempts to free herself from the shackles that quite literally tie her to her late husband. "It had been a minute since I was in this genre, if I’ve ever been in the genre at all,” she mused. "Jennifer’s Body isn’t a horror, really. It’s more like a dark comedy. [Till Death] was something I hadn’t done before. It felt fresh to me.” Next comes Midnight in the Switchgrass, an edge-of-your-seat thriller that Fox said she felt guided to be a part of. "It was definitely a vehicle—I’ll be honest—for me to meet Colson,” she laughed. ICYMI, the two notably met on the set of the film last year. "I knew he was gonna be in the movie, but the universe was just like, ‘Go do this. There’s something about this experience that’ll be really rewarding for you.’” Fans can watch the movie in theaters or stream it beginning July 23.

This calling or greater purpose was by no means limited to Switchgrass. When you consider Fox’s decade-long acting career, it may be tempting to view her through the lens of Hollywood’s deeply rooted misogyny and write off her roles as serving some ambiguous "hot girl” archetype as critics always have. But she takes a more purposeful, if not metaphysical, approach to the whole of her career. "Sometimes, you can just tell something about [an acting role],” she insisted, her voice taking on a sense of urgency. "Like, this is going to change me as a person. That’s what I want for my life: to constantly be evolving and growing.” Instinct, I now realize, is what guides Fox in every endeavor in her life. It’s her North Star. "I was never playing chess,” she added. "It has always been a game of intuition as to whether something resonated with me or not.”

Intuition, the universe, a higher calling—these weren’t always a part of Fox’s lexicon. It took years of enduring a constant stream of criticism for her to reach a pivotal point—a breakthrough, if you will—that changed everything for her. Toward the end of 2019, she was on location in Africa filming Rogue and happened to encounter one of her previous movies that had been pretty critically panned. "I’d been brutally reviewed for it,” she audibly shuddered. "I never watch the movies I do. My biggest fear is to watch and listen to myself.” Alas, she watched it anyway, and it was at that moment she was able to see herself objectively for the first time. "Wait, I’m not bad at it,” she said of her thought process at the time. "Also, this isn’t a bad movie. In fact, it’s totally fine. I can’t believe it got put through the ringer the way that it did.” Seeing the movie with fresh eyes was only one part of it. Validating her entire acting experience was another. "I can’t believe that I allowed myself to accept I was not good at this or that I had any sort of self-esteem issues based on how this movie was received,” she continued. "That caused me to sit and realize that I was sort of putting myself in a mental prison for the last decade. I decided that I just wasn’t going to be afraid anymore. I’m not going to live another day in fear. That was a shift in consciousness where I was like, ‘Fuck this. I'm just… I’m not going to be afraid anymore.’” Talk about a wake-up call.

Fox may be in the spotlight once again, but this time, she’s fully in control. Or rather, she’s fully in control of herself. Yes, the paparazzi seem to follow her every move these days, and yes, she’s once again the subject of the news cycle, but you might notice, for instance, how she’s still not very active on social media. That’s by design. When I inquired about whether keeping her Instagram comments turned off was another form of self-protection, her perspective was one of nonattachment. "People are conflicted and need a place to project their unhappiness. That will often come out on celebrities,” she declared. "That’s kind of what we’re for.” You can bet, then, that no matter what people have said in the past, are saying now, or will say at any point in the future about Megan Fox, she’ll be blissfully tuning them out.

We all know for a fact that pop punk is most certainly not a new genre. Even if it wasn't exactly your music taste, you probably have some memory of Paramore, Green Day, or Avril Lavigne lyrics stuck in the back of your head. It's the cycle of the industry for things to come back around, except this time, it's artists like Willow Smith and Olivia Rodrigo who are singing the tunes fueling your adult, not teenage, angst. Similar to the 2000s (and the '80s punk period before that), fashion has always been heavily influenced by the music industry.

It makes sense since the punk-esque characters in both films were chasing musical dreams. While one side of fashion may be pulling Y2K inspiration from Regina George, I know where the other side is drawing from.

With couples like Travis Barker and Kourtney Kardashian or Machine Gun Kelly and Megan Fox, there's one thing that's clear—pop punk has merged once again onto red carpets, street style, and even high fashion. While designers such as Vivienne Westwood are considered legends with the aesthetic at the core of their brand identities, many brands are trying to follow suit. Chanel even joined in (yes, you read that right) and sent a variety of grunge looks down its Cruise 2022 runway, taking a far step away from its usual tweed-and-posh glamour. While there are several summer trends living in my mind rent-free, none are as particularly poignant as hot-girl style. ICYMI, the colloquial term "hot girl,” was redefined from its former negative connotation to something positive by rapper Megan Thee Stallion with her album Tina Snow. It started as a lyric, but the phrase "hot girl” has since become a lifestyle. It’s not just about living your most bougie life. It’s also about embodying self-love, a positive body image, healthy boundaries and relationships, self-actualization, and, of course, sultry style choices. This movement toward more risqué outfits by celebrity style icons has inspired some of the most sizzling fashion trends. But you don’t have to take my word for it. We’ve rounded up 11 trends that were championed by celebrities before they became a thing. Your class syllabus for crafting a Hot Girl Summer (at least through clothing) lies ahead.

Whether you love it or hate it, the Hot Girl Summer style aesthetic is incomplete without some risqué style choices, and if we’re talking racy, it doesn’t get spicier than the exposed G-string. Of course, there’s a long history of this "indecent” trend being in the spotlight— Jennifer Lopez has single-handedly started and revived the trend on multiple occasions—but what makes the whale tail more wearable than ever is its embrace into high fashion over the past few years. Let’s be honest: Low-rise pants would never have become a thing without initially being worn by celebrities in the late ’00s. It’s one of the most significant trends of that period and one of the most controversial, to say the least. Of course, the garment has a long history of falling in and out of fashion. Invented in the 1500s, the undergarment was commonplace up until the beginning of the 20th century, which coincided with the women’s emancipation movement. Creative designers like Vivienne Westwood, Jean Paul Gaultier, and Thierry Mugler reinvented the garment by making it a statement-making piece rather than a restrictive item that physically molded the wearer to patriarchal beauty standards. The result is a staple piece in practically every modern-day icon’s wardrobe.

Not to be confused with cutouts, keyholes are like that auntie who is always doing the most, making this perfect to adopt for summer. Of course, you can go for full-sheer dresses or skirts that resemble some of the most iconic naked-dress moments, or you can opt for mesh and sheer separates to add a little spice to your summer wardrobe.

Although the concept of Hot Girl Summer may be new, the trends that encapsulate the vibe are not. Take, for example, belly chains. While body jewelry is like a time machine (think back to Britney Spears’s ’00s looks), this formerly dated trend has reclaimed the spotlight. Luxury labels like Chanel and Fendi have created stunning body and belly pieces, and celebrities like Hailey Bieber have been spotted wearing a Jacquie Aiche chain for a day by the pool, which is proof of the rise of belly and body chains of all kinds. And we can’t think of a better way to accentuate your gorgeous body by having it dripping in jewels.

Is it even summertime without a few celebrity swimsuit selfies? For real though, season after season, celebrities always champion the best swimwear trends, and this season is no different. So far, we’ve seen everything from brightly hued suits (hello, bubblegum pink) to metallic and embellished suits to swimsuits with cutout details and retro prints.
