If there’s one shoe brand I've been noticing editors and influencers wearing the most lately, it’s Tory Burch. From the resurgence of the early 2000s signature Reva ballet flat to the peep-toe pump, I keep spotting them all over New York. For 2026, it's the Romy Sport Mary Jane, which Jennifer Lawrence wore recently. According to the designer's website, the shoe is described as "a modern sneaker-ballet hybrid" and "lightweight and flexible."

In general, Mary Jane sneakers have been popular for a few years now, with styles like Adidas's Samba Jane and Onitsuka Tiger’s Mexico 66 TGRS. I also remember Cecilie Bahnsen, Chopova Lowena, and Simone Rocha being at the forefront of this, along with the resurgence of vintage Prada Sport pairs from the '90s. Luxury labels including Bottega Veneta, Jil Sander, Marni, Miu Miu, The Attico, and Wales Bonner have introduced their own versions as well.

There’s always a certain pressure surrounding a debut but especially at a house as admired as Marni. We’re all now sitting with the show notes from Meryll Rogge’s first collection, but what stood out most wasn’t the need to reinvent—it was the intention to remember what made the brand one that she once obsessed over as a teen along with everybody else. Her first paycheck as a fashion designer went toward a pair of Marni shoes and thus began an obsession that would later turn into her new role. This must be why the collection felt like a tribute, not in a nostalgic, greatest-hits way, but in something quieter that could only be seen by those who truly knew what Marni was in the first place.

It’s a sentiment that echoed across the collection itself, which traded spectacle for something more grounded—clothes that feel lived-in, personal, and slightly offbeat in the way only Marni can. Forget trends; this collection is a whole vibe, an aesthetic, an entire closet you want to step into. There’s an emphasis on “real life,” as Rogge herself put it, but with just enough disruption—through texture, proportion, or unexpected pairings—to remind you that getting dressed can still feel like a creative act. It’s less about transformation, more about recognition.

The Meryll Rogge Era

Meryll Rogge has playfully dubbed her era as the third creative director the brand has seen as "chapter three," and she isn’t approaching it like a reset—she’s approaching it like a continuation. Her history with the brand runs deep, from buying that first pair of Marni platforms at the start of her career to building her own personal brand that felt quite aligned with the Marni vision. That familiarity shows in the way she sidesteps the pressure to define what this new era of Marni will mean. Instead of labeling it, she has simply sharpened it.

What emerges is a version of Marni that feels more wearable but not diluted. There’s a clarity to her perspective—clothes designed to move between everyday life and something slightly more elevated, without drawing a hard line between the two. It’s feminine but not delicate. Expressive but never loud. And importantly, it reflects a broader shift: a return to an overall aesthetic rather than quickly burning trends.

The House Codes

At its core, this collection is about honoring the essence of the Marni brand. Rogge revisits the visual language established by the brand’s founder, Consuelo Castiglioni. It’s no mistake that the off-kilter proportions, the clash of prints, and the signature polka dots look eerily familiar. It reframes the early collections of the brand through a modern lens. Many of the items in the collection look like something that you would find if you had the chance to dig through the Marni archives but unworn and brand new.

Rogge set out to honor what Castiglioni once created, even bringing back familiar icons—the Fussbett sandal, the Trunk bag—which are “reengineered” according to the show notes, rather than simply reissued. It’s this balance of memory and modification that makes the collection feel forward-looking without losing its footing.

A '90s State of Mind

Watching the collection walk down the runway felt like stepping into 1994, the year the brand was conceptualized. Spotlighting one of the fashion crowd’s favorite things about ’90s fashion, it’s the kind of wardrobe that doesn’t try too hard: a slightly oversize coat, a tactile knit, something with sequins worn during the day just because.

That sensibility aligns with Marni’s original rise in the ’90s, when individuality won over polish. Rogge taps into that same spirit here, favoring instinct over perfection and personality over trend. It’s less about re-creating the decade and more about channeling its ease—the idea that getting dressed should feel intuitive, a little imperfect, and entirely your own.

The Key Buys

Now, what would a girl like Rogge at the beginning of her career be saving up to buy from this collection? There were a lot of standouts that we need to discuss. Mid-show, it felt like there was a gorpcore takeover that combined party-girl essentials like sequin dresses with athletic clothing. The crowd was enamored with the animal-inspired coats, be it cow print or classic leopard—this outerwear was filled with statements worth making. Sweater-vests have fallen to the wayside lately, but when the cozy staple is expertly styled in a librarian-chic way, the world is about to fall in love all over again. Pencil skirts also couldn’t be missed. They came in lace, leather, and in the traditional sense as well—styled in ways that were anything but boring. The accessories borrowed from the Marni archives but became reborn and will certainly become It buys this fall. Fans of the brand are calling out that the iconic drop earrings are so back.

Individuality! Opulence! Soft power! Romance! The spring/summer 2025 collections brought many ideas into focus, but perhaps the biggest takeaways from fashion month were a renewed sense of softness, new maximalism, and a return to personal style. This is a notable shift away from fashion centered on minimalism, quiet luxury, and practical wearability, which has dominated for the past several seasons. Instead, there is a sense of joy returning to fashion and restored energy around the art of getting dressed.

We've already seen personality pieces enter into wardrobes in the form of unexpected items such as pillbox hats, but that has only been dialed up as designers call attention to highly personal looks. Brands such as Prada and Valentino made the case for this, bringing individuality back to fashion on the runway through inventive styling. Chanel returned to the Grand Palais after a four-year renovation, ushering the lightness of the space into the collection—a sensibility that permeated throughout fashion month overall. We even saw this movement toward softer palettes and more romantic silhouettes from brands, such as Khaite, that have come to be known for darker, edgier collections. Bottega Veneta, too, felt whimsical, using childlike playfulness as a point of inspiration. Saint Laurent was able to tap into several of the season's bigger themes, including soft power and opulence, which were prominent throughout the collections. The key accessory of 2025 arrived in the form of modern peep-toe shoes at Tory Burch and ACNE Studios. There is a lot to unpack from the runway collections in New York, London, Milan, and Paris, and ahead are the big takeaways.

What's come to be known as corporatecore has had a hand in fashion for years now. Following lockdown, people became surprisingly excited about the concept of putting on a suit or any office-appropriate ensemble instead of sweatpants for their 9-to-5s. For spring 2025, designers began to soften the once sharp tailoring that fell under this aesthetic, moving beyond traditional suiting in some cases and crafting a wardrobe for the modern working person who wants to look work-ready but still chic and comfortable. They still project power and influence with their ensembles, but now, it's in a far less obvious and intimidating fashion. At Ferragamo, Gabriela Hearst, and Stella McCartney, this energy manifested itself by way of subtly slouchy trench coats paired with pumps and structured handbags. The Row, Bottega Veneta, Christopher Esber, and, most notably, Saint Laurent, displayed the "soft power" look in the form of oversize suiting styled alongside cool accessories—from statement eyewear to cuff bracelets.

The fall/winter 2024 runways saw red—the color that had dominated the fashion circuit for over a year—ascend from just another trend to timeless status before our eyes. More shades of the color appeared, particularly burgundy, but instead of feeling like a short-lived fad, every variation of red on the runways appeared to be just as wearable as the many black, cream, and gray ensembles we saw in spades. All of that is to say that red's promotion made room for a new color trend to reach ubiquity the following season, and powder pink was quick to fill that spot. Throughout the spring/summer 2025 shows, powder pink garnered attention from the powers that be in fashion with a heavy showing in New York at Alaïa, Khaite, and Brandon Maxwell and in Milan and Paris at Miu Miu, Chanel, Valentino, and Jil Sander. Though not exactly groundbreaking for spring, the soft shade did feel fresh and airy compared to some of the darker colors we've come to expect from these brands, Khaite in particular.

With the rise of micro-trends on the internet and social media platforms, there has been a sameness in fashion, but have we lost touch with our personal style? That seemed to be the question designers were contemplating on the runways. This became clear at Prada, where Miuccia Prada and Raf Simons discussed the era of internet algorithms and emphasized a return to individuality on the runways. Rather than a concrete theme like we have come to expect at Prada, the sensibilities changed from look to look, and each model seemed to have a different sense of style. This continued throughout the season with looks that emphasized individuality and personal style. This often came down to styling.

At Chloé, an all-black look felt personal with the addition of a pillbox hat, oversize sunglasses, and layers of gold jewelry. Similarly, head-to-toe black stood apart at Gucci with a skirt that was finished with a wide-brimmed hat and leather gloves. In other collections such as Miu Miu and Marni, this was achieved by mixing unexpected prints. What really solidified the trend, however, was Alessandro Michele's debut runway collection for Valentino, which was one of the most anticipated shows at Paris Fashion Week. While the pieces in the collection were a tribute to the Valentino archives and house codes, the styling suggested personal ways to wear them that brought a sense of individuality to the forefront of the fashion conversation.

On several occasions throughout the spring/summer 2025 season, we witnessed looks sent down the runway that undoubtedly drew from Carolyn Bessette-Kennedy's sophisticated and modern sense of style. These ensembles displayed the air of simplicity and elegance that so many late '90s socialites and publicists did with Prada, Yohji Yamamoto, and Calvin Klein. Just like hers, they featured slight touches—be it a subtle, cool styling trick, or an unexpected tailoring or accessory choice. Come spring, these details will make people turn and wonder who the person wearing them is and how they, too, can get their look. Dubbed by us "the modern socialite," this savvy dresser has the very best taste, gets invited to everything, and always shows up in something worth saving to a mood board.

For spring 2025, those looks will include Max Mara's classic black-and-white shirt and pencil skirt with its peekaboo black bikini underneath; Tove's high-neck, sheer maxi dress with its wide, waist-accentuating belt; and Toteme's butter-yellow satin minidress fit with an attached scarf. For added measure, wear black tights and a bright-red lip.

"Opulence" is one of the words that hit the lips of showgoers throughout the season as designers continued to debut extravagant looks on the runways. In recent years, quiet luxury and minimalism have set the tone for style largely rooted in simplicity and pared-back pieces. For spring 2025, however, we've seeing the opposite play out with a return to the unbridled maximalism that has been absent from fashion for many seasons. At Saint Laurent, we saw this in the form of brocade jackets, ruffled satin skirts, high-neck lace tops, and gemstone-encrusted pumps. At Loewe, dramatic, sculptural jackets were executed in gleaming mother-of-pearl. At Dries Van Noten, tapestry-print satin jackets were paired with heavily embellished pencil skirts. This new sense of opulence takes on a "more is more" approach to style that is ornate, lavish, and undeniably grand.

The moment the Tory Burch show concluded at the Domino Sugar Factory in Brooklyn, editors began discussing the peep-toe heels from the runway. The shoes were designed with a towering and curved heel, glossy finish, and cutout peep toe positioned near the inner corners—an instant must-have item on our 2025 shopping lists. It was also one of the first glimpses at the peep-toe trend that swept the collections. At Khaite, minimal pumps with a micro cutout hit the runway. At ACNE Studios, slingbacks were finished with a spherical peep toe and an elongated, squared-off silhouette. At Prada, the designers resurrected styles from the archives, including a fall/winter 2008 version that was notably released during one of the last times peep-toe shoes were widely popular. Now, its comeback is sweeping and imminent. Instead of more traditional styles, the peep-toe heels of 2025 are returning with modern takes that reimagine the classic cutout shoes.

The fashion world, like us, is craving romance and expressing itself via soft, sheer, and flowing chiffon fabrics in ethereal shades and delicate floral patterns that immediately evoke images of a Keira Knightley period piece filmed in a grassy countryside at the peak of summer. At Chanel, airiness and flight were the cornerstones of its S/S 25 collection, with capes and feathers both finding places on models wearing transparent materials in a brightly lit Grand Palais. Chemena Kamali's sophomore collection for Chloé was the perfect continuation of her first, including bubble hems, lingerie-like lace, and florals, all through a bohemian lens. At Khaite, Creative Director Catherine Holstein utilized see-through fabrics and pale shades to cue a shift in her design strategy catalyzed by motherhood, according to an interview from Vogue.

You've heard of the wrong-shoe theory, a styling trick coined by stylist Allison Bornstein that involves pairing an outfit with shoes that would normally feel mismatched or incorrect to create a more interesting, adventurous ensemble. But have you heard of the wrong-jacket theory? Probably not, which makes sense given that we just made it up. The spring/summer 2025 runways made it abundantly clear that personal style and individualism will reign supreme when warmer weather arrives later on next year, and one of the many ways that was showcased was in the form of stylists topping looks with seemingly incompatible jacket options, specifically sporty and technical silhouettes. See sequin dresses at Prada, Brandon Maxwell, Rabanne, and Burberry combined with clashing outerwear, from nylon zip-ups to fur-trimmed parkas. In other words, expect the unexpected, and don't be afraid to play around with your top layers when spring arrives.

Textiles are taking on more tactile forms, which are showing up in a number of iterations in the spring/summer 2025 collections. Whether soft-to-the-touch feathers or twisting fringe that showcases a new sense of engineering in fabrics, the pieces automatically inspire a want of touch. Alaïa introduced voluminous, spiraled fringe coats, and Proenza Schouler executed fringe in the form of miniskirts and strapless dresses. Chanel added a playful, light touch to romantic feathers, while Loewe took on feathers in a modern way that fused them into a textile nearly resembling a woven fabric. Khaite layered pom-pom skirts under tailored outerwear. Bottega Veneta showcased hats that resembled rubber Koosh balls from childhood. Each look took on textiles in a touchable, feel-good way, emphasizing a renewed exploration of outside-the-ordinary textures.

At this point in her dressing journey, there's very little Kendall Jenner could wear that would genuinely shock us. Think about it this way: She's worn a tiny string bikini with furry boots in a snow-covered field, a completely sideless gown by Rami Kadi to the 2019 Oscar's after-party, and tights as pants on a number of occasions now. 5. GRANNY KNITS

Sometimes your trusty black cashmere jumper won't be the one you want to reach for. For autumn/winter 2022, the oversized cardigan has been reworked in many iterations. Last season, Gucci was one of the first to revamp this classic, adorning this oversized cardigan in jumbo GG logos. Not only has the brand revisited it again in acid brights, but other designers have followed suit. My favorites include a collegiate-inspired number from Maje and Mango's diamond-shaped print. I will be layering this style over leggings and with riding boots when the temperature drops.

Do you remember where you were when H&M launched its first collaboration Versace? Or to go back even further, Topshop's experimental collaboration with Christopher Kane? I do, not least because I have always been fashion obsessed, but also because as a high-street devotee, I always feel my heart skip a beat whenever an affordable, accessible designer collection is announced.

Uniqlo is no stranger to iconic collaborations. At any given time, you can find pieces from the likes from Jil Sander, Mame Kurogouchi, Inès de La Fressange and, of course, JW Anderson. The well-considered, wearable collections are always executed in the way that only Uniqlo can, with deft precision and an incredible price point. So you can imagine my delight when the first Marni x Uniqlo partnership debuted earlier in the year. The collection was a joyful edit of printed dresses, shorts and skirts with an equally strong menswear offering, and it perfectly balanced the clean lines and functionality of Uniqlo with the avant-garde, expressive creativity of Marni. After predictable success, the collaboration is back, and I must say, the second line may be even better than the first…

I was invited to see a preview of the collection before it landed on site, and the first thing that immediately stood out was the colour palette. If you thought Uniqlo was all moody tonals and neutrals, think again. Marni brings a cacophony of colour, print and texture to an otherwise drab British winter and just might be the dose of colour that the high-street needs.

There's no mistaking that this is a winter range full of the thermals and heat-tech that Uniqlo is known for, but the introduction of chocolate brown, punchy blue and pops of citrus brights is wholly unexpected. A word to the loyal minimalists before you turn on your heels, though: Although classic Marni styling would suggest layering up pieces to clash and colour-block, I'm just as intrigued by the idea of wearing key pieces as separates with an all-black or neutral look. So I call that something for everyone. 

In the name of research, I had to see and test-drive the collection in a bid to find out whether Uniqlo would be continuing its impressive collab success with another Marni partnership or whether it was a one-hit wonder. 5. GRANNY KNITS

Sometimes your trusty black cashmere jumper won't be the one you want to reach for. For autumn/winter 2022, the oversized cardigan has been reworked in many iterations. Last season, Gucci was one of the first to revamp this classic, adorning this oversized cardigan in jumbo GG logos. Not only has the brand revisited it again in acid brights, but other designers have followed suit. My favourites include a collegiate-inspired number from Maje and Mango's diamond-shaped print. I will be layering this style over leggings and with riding boots when the temperature drops.

Deliciously fluffy and appealingly oversize, it was such a breakout star of the Italian label's S/S 21 collection, and celebs have been flocking to it in droves.

A "boring" staple rarely receives so much attention, but maybe that's a testament to how transformative a statement piece can be. Marni's version has been on my wish list since the summer, but with a $1000 price tag, that's likely where it'll stay. For now, I'm scratching the itch by browsing for inexpensive, equally quirky alternatives and window-shopping for ones I dream of wearing. Over the past few years, we have seen a shift toward practicality in fashion, and this is seen most acutely with footwear. Fashion brands have for several seasons been bringing us sturdy, responsible shoes—the kind of styles that you'd try to run away from when finding shoes at Clarks in year six. Think T-bar loafers, chunky lace-ups and—what we're talking about today—fisherman sandals.

Actress Caitriona Balfe’s path to stardom hasn’t exactly been what you’d call traditional. While packing bags for a local charity in her native Ireland, she was scouted by a modeling agent and then made her way to Paris at 19, where she began a modeling career that touched all the major fashion houses. Balfe continued to work in New York City for nearly eight years, but after deciding that modeling wasn’t her true passion, she eventually landed in L.A. to pursue her lifelong dream of acting on-screen.

Fast-forward to 2013 when Starz was casting the coveted role of Claire Fraser for the highly anticipated adaptation of the Outlander series and Balfe was called in after a second look at her audition tape. Anyone who has had the experience of owning a leather handbag knows that the amount of care and repair can be a hefty task. When it’s become your go-to accessory day in and day out, cleaning a beloved handbag becomes a necessity. And when you’ve invested a pretty penny into one, the idea of accidentally ruining such a coveted piece is incredibly daunting.

Because we know how tricky leather can be, we tapped Steve Roquemore of LA Leather Repair for advice on what to do when your favorite purse gets stained. With these dos and don’ts of leather care, you’ll have your bag looking good as new in no time.

Determine the type of leather.

According to Roquemore, there are three different types of leather. Full aniline, or unfinished leather, is open-pore and absorbs liquid, becoming darker when wet. Semi-aniline, or finished leather, is sealed with a top coat finish, and liquid beads up on the surface. Pigmented leather is actually completely sealed with a leather paint, which covers all natural marks and grain (typically used in automobiles). 

Do a test patch on your bag.

“To test which type of leather you have, place a few drops of water on your leather in an inconspicuous area,” he says. If it absorbs, it’s unfinished leather; if it beads, it’s finished or pigmented. Any products you use to clean should be tested in an inconspicuous area (like the bottom of your bag) first.

Clean according to your type of stain or dirt.

Roquemore explains, “A dry soft brush or cloth should be used to remove any large dried particles from the leather first. If the source is oil-based, pre-treating the area with dry corn starch or a leather degreaser should be done first to absorb the oil. Remaining stains can be removed with a lightly damp soft cloth and leather cleaner specific to your type of leather.” He recommends cleaners from Leather Master.

Condition your leather.

“Conditioning is particularly recommended for full-aniline leathers as they are more vulnerable to drying and cracking. Once again, always test first in an inconspicuous location. Conditioning once every three to six months is a good idea,” Roquemore says.

Know what to avoid.

Roquemore explains that with your leather bags, it’s best to avoid sun exposure, which can lead to faded, dry, or cracked areas. Also do your best to avoid oils to prevent dulling and staining. “Handbags touched by oily, moist skin will eventually damage the leather. Finally, be mindful of storing potentially damaging things in your purse, such as lotions, liquids, and uncapped pens.”

Now traditionally, we know the drill of the races, wear a flattering dress, a stand-out hat, and most importantly comfortable heels. (We know for a fact that heels like the low heel mule and the block heel will be crowd favourites this year, as well as playing on any gelato-coloured footwear that is most accepting on the turf.) But Pecoraro has worked on race dressing with a number of celebrities, such as Jesinta Franklin, as well as It girls Sarah Ellen and Isabelle Cornish, so she knows a thing or two about getting it very, very right.

1. Avoid felt hats for seasons other than winter. Keep it seasonal for spring with straw hats instead.

3. Again, keep things traditional with a suitable length skirt and avoid super short dresses. Try to aim for at least mid-thigh.

Marni's longtime creative director, Consuelo Castiglioni, is officially leaving the family business. The designer, who made her family's fur business into the fashion label it is today, is stepping down, and a replacement has already been named. According to Business of Fashion, Francesco Risso, who formerly was a designer at Prada, will take over as creative director.

The 33-year-old has an impressive résumé: He studied at Polimoda in Italy, the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York, and Central St. Martins in London. Risso's name may not be that familiar to those outside the fashion industry, but his work has been seen by all. He worked at Alessandro Dell'Acqua and Malo before joining Prada in 2008, and his first Marni collection will be shown at Milan Fashion Week in February. Renzo Rosso, president of Only the Brave, the Italian fashion group that bought Marni in 2012, released a statement about the new era of the brand: "I am happy to welcome Francesco, whose talent will contribute to writing a new chapter in the history of this house which is Italian at heart and global in spirit. I am confident that the creative team and the management of Marni, which have contributed to this success, will continue to make this brand reach exciting new goals."
