As a manicure-obsessed beauty editor, there's nothing that excites me more than a fresh set. I spend hours scrolling on Pinterest and sifting through my favorite nail artists' social media posts to see which image I should recreate next—whether a glitchy mismatched set or stunning single-polish paint job—but it recently dawned on me that most of my saved photos were shot across the pond.

If you looked through my phone, you'd see a camera roll peppered with snaps of Dua Lipa's trend-setting manis, crafted by London-based celebrity manicurist Michelle Humphrey, or the detailed work of Milan-based nail artist Oksana Zavora, who creates intricate sets directly inspired by fashion trends and timely runways. Though I still find inspiration in trendy American celebs, my taste tends to favor those overseas—so I asked top European manicurists what their stylish clientele have been requesting these days.

"Nail trends constantly evolve, but at the moment, London nails tend to feel more understated, individual, and fashion-led, often with shorter, more natural shapes," Humphrey tells Who What Wear. Fellow Brit (and celebrity manicurist) Imarni Ashman adds that European nail trends often center around "immaculate nail preparation," texture, and high-quality finishes. However, both artists agree that the U.S. approaches manicures in a slightly more extreme fashion. "American trends often embrace longer lengths [and] bolder colours and designs—think Hailey Bieber and Kylie Jenner," says Ashman. "Although this is not always gospel!" Humphrey adds.

If there's one trend that unites the American and European nail scene, it's the milky manicure trend. "Sheer, glossy colours have been huge—from milky nudes to bright jelly shades," says Hughes. From translucent polishes to barely there soap nails, this reigning trend embraces hues that are closer to gauzy layers of chiffon than pigmented polish. "Sheer nude nails that look healthy, glossy, and expensive are still one of the most requested looks," Humphrey adds. "The clean girl aesthetic prevails!"

After seeing It girls like Suki Waterhouse and Lipa rock black nails in the middle of summer (Summerween nails, some may call them), I knew we had a chic seasonal trend on our hands. Humphrey confirms my theory by calling out Essie's Like it Loud as a great color for summer 2026—an inkblot shade that, ironically, goes great with a tan. Ashman agrees, adding that other gothic hues like black cherry are equally striking in the summertime. "A tan with a deep black-red looks very chic," she notes. "I’ve created similar looks on Lily Collins and Lily Allen this summer."

American tastemakers may still be on the glazed-donut chrome manicure wave, but Europeans have graduated to sets that look a bit more dimensional. "Cat eye nails have become a staple," Humphrey croons. So, to get ahead of the curve, I spoke to nail tech and The Gel Bottle founder Daisy Kalnina, who revealed her predictions for the shades set to dominate over the coming months. For all the inspiration, just keep scrolling…

1. Low-Key Green

If Barbie pink had its moment, consider sweetpea green this summer’s cooler, more understated successor. “Green is one of the defining colour stories of 2026, but in softer, more muted tones. Sage and pistachio tones feel fresh, modern and unexpected; they’re a subtle way to wear colour while still feeling elevated," reveals Kalnina. 2. Muted Chrome

“High-shine finishes are evolving for 2026, blending soft luminosity with more futuristic, statement looks," says Kalnina. Think chrome pigments in iced metallic finishes, such as this rich and moody grey chrome. Worried they're dark for summer? Don't be, they work beautifully with the season’s light play, catching the sun with every movement while still feeling polished.

3. Ocean Greens

This colour trend is universally flattering and full of energy. "It gives those clean-girl vibes without being neutral; it's that instant reminder of summer and the ocean. A real mood-lifter on the nails,' says Kalnina.

4. Milky Coconut

“Sheer, milky tones are still one of the biggest movements in nails, but for summer they take on a sun-kissed quality," explains Kalnina. "A milky ‘coconut’ gives that clean, glossy finish whilst enhancing a tan; it’s effortless and always looks expensive," she adds.

5. Red Cherry

Red-nail girls rejoice, your favourite shade isn't going anywhere. Rather, Kalnina says it's simply evolving for 2026: "It’s becoming juicier, brighter and more playful." Heading to the salon? Try The GelBottle Cherry Glass. "It feels nostalgic but fresh, and ties into the wider ‘fruit motif’ nail art trend we’re seeing right now. It’s bold, but still incredibly wearable," says Kalnina.

6. Aqua Blue

This lightning bolt of blue is my personal favourite. “This bright blue creates depth and movement on the nail, almost like water, which makes it perfect for summer. It’s a playful take on colour with a high-gloss finish," says Kalnina.

7. Tangerine

“Peachy-tangerine tones are taking over for high summer as a more modern way to wear brights. It gives that juicy wash of colour that feels fresh, vibrant and sun-ready," says Kalnina. We couldn't agree more.

8. Lilac

The latest neutral that's set to be big for summer? Lilac blue. Not only does it look beautiful on all skin tones, but it's also especially perfect for those who can't seem to shake the natural nail look.

It goes without saying that summertime is the season to get white nails. Granted, it's not an official thing, but it's hard not to notice the amount of white manicures and pedicures that tend to pop out around late spring through summer. While some people, like myself, can't wait to ditch neutral nails and sport the look, others consider it too plain and prefer to take a maximalist approach. And to that I say, to each their own.

To people who experience all four seasons, May is the first breath of fresh air. In New York City, the Central Park trees are finally in full bloom, and green grass has replaced the dry thatch. Nature has come back to life, and our style choices from head to toenails reflect that. So when I tapped three professional manicurists for advice on which color to get at my May nail appointment, they came back with a flurry of trend-forward recommendations that vary from soft and subtle to edgy and alternative.

There’s a lot that happens in May, as celebrity nail artist Pattie Yankee points out. This month officially kicks off wedding season (“Expect to see a lot of blushy pinks and milky nudes,” she notes), and we’re currently experiencing the come-down from Coachella and Stagecoach, where the style-minded kicked off many of the hottest spring manicure trends. “May is that beautiful in-between moment where spring is fully blooming, but summer is right around the corner, and we're seeing nail trends reflect that softness and optimism,” says Rebecca Isa, creative director at Zoya. It’s this flurry of rebirth—the blooming flowers, the sweet spring warmth, and the refilled social calendars—that inspired this month’s trendiest colors, and that much is evident from the experts’ recommendations below.

8 May Nail Color Trends

Refined Pastels

Pastels for spring? Groundbreaking. Though these lighter iterations of classic colors are spring manicure staples, Isa predicts a sweeter yet more sophisticated take—shades she calls “dessert-inspired pastels,” which feel “sweet and indulgent but in a refined, grown-up way.” The result is a smattering of dreamy pinks, raspberry tints, and milky lilacs (like the above), finished with a glossy, hard-candy finish. “These aren't the chalky pastels of seasons past; they're richer, more saturated, and read as polished rather than playful,” Isa concludes.

Inky Alternatives

This next trend looks anti-spring at first glance but is one of the chicest choices you can make at the salon right now. Not only did Hailey Bieber don inky, flowered nails at the first weekend of Bieberchella (painted by go-to celeb manicurist Zola Ganzorigt, who consistently sets the nail trends for music festival season), but going against the seasonal grain with any style choice is a fast track for looking cool. However, Yankee says that black polish isn’t mandatory to partake in this trend. “For those who like the darker nails but still want some color, cobalt blue or emerald green (the May birthstone!) are looking like some popular choices,” she adds.

Natural Glow

Healthy nails are always en vogue, and Isa says that the recent resurgence in attention to nail health is translating into spring trends. “We're continuing to see a strong shift toward luminous, enhanced naturals—finishes that don't mask the nail but instead diffuse light to make it look healthier and brighter,” she explains. Take, for example, the coral wash of color on manicurist Mateja Novakovic’s nails, made possible by the tinted Manucurist nail strengthener in Cranberry. Isa explains that these polishes with built-in benefits give your nails a "your nails but better" sheen, which “feels especially right for May when we're transitioning into bare-skin season and want our hands to look effortless.”

Subtle Shimmer

“Subtle sparkle is back but not in a maximalist way,” declares Isa. “We're seeing fine, rose-gold-toned glitters and pearlescent shimmers being used as accent shades or topcoats over creams to add dimension without overwhelming the look,” she adds. Take, for example, this subtly shimmery gel manicure crafted by London-based expert manicurist Karolina Zuk, who made fine flecks of glitter look oh so chic.

Soft Pink

“Pink is the shade of the summer!” exclaims Olivia Van Iderstine, trend expert at Olive and June. “There are so many ways to get into this trend, with nearly neon hot pink to low-key neutrals,” she adds. However, softer iterations of the bubblegum hue, like the milky pink above, have been undeniably dominating the trend cycle for quite some time. If you’re looking for a non-boring neutral that goes with everything this month, soft pink is your new best friend.

Orange Creamsicle

There's nothing like a soft citrus shade to celebrate the transition between spring and summer. Not only does this milky clementine hue look stunning on all skin types, but it has a sweet hint of summertime nostalgia that doesn't feel childish or kitschy. "Orange Creamsicle is one of our favorite flavors—equal parts sweet and bold," Van Iderstine says of this saccharine trend. Kick up the saturation with a bolder orange hue for a bit more flair, or go for a softer peach iteration like the photo above for something chicer.

Butter Yellow

Butter yellow certainly had its moment last summer, but Yankee doesn’t see this trend losing steam just yet. “With the warmer weather, a lot of people want a pop of color in their nails,” she explains. The nail artist goes on to explain that she also expects coral shades to pop up throughout the month. “They are good colors for the transition between spring and summer,” she elaborated. Whether you're adding a bit of sunshine to your fingertips or toes, this shade is a sure compliment earner.

Light-Wash Denim

The pros are taking inspiration from seasonal fashion when it comes to May manicures. While sky blue sounds like the perfect spring shade to me, Van Iderstine says this trend is a bit more intentional than that. "[It's] your favorite pair of summer denim cutoffs in nail form," she states. "They pair with everything (just like denim does) and strike that perfect balance between neutral and statement [nails]," she explains.

Color Combos Trending in May

Berry + Blue

Isa says that the mixed berry nail trend is the "unexpected pairing" she's seeing pop up everywhere. "A rich raspberry on most nails with one accent in a soft powder blue feels fresh, a little playful, and very of-the-moment. It nods to the color-blocking trend without feeling try-hard."

Tonal Pastels

Isa also noticed that alternating nail polish mashups—especially when each shade is from the same color family—has been a popular request these days. "Like a soft lilac next to a creamy pink, or a powder blue next to an icy mint," she explains. "[It] feels modern and a little unexpected without being loud. It's the perfect way to wear a manicure that reads cohesive but has more personality than a single shade."

May tends to feel like that in-between month, when blue skies lose their novelty, but lingering rain keeps summer just out of reach. It’s a seasonal limbo that’s reflected everywhere, particularly when it comes to nail trends.

First up are these high-shine 'grape juice' nails. "We’re seeing sheer, cool-toned pinks rise in popularity, especially for those who love a very natural nail look," reveals Kalnina. The reason, believes Vivii, is that "these are gorgeous spring shades for the clean girls who want a healthy, effortless glow." Akin to your favourite highlighter or lip gloss, it's a fresh take on the glazed look and as Vivii puts it, "it just works".

I love this mirror-finish silver that feels bright and joyous but doesn't look like it needs to be filed under December/Christmas. Vivii agrees, revealing that "silver is always a favourite of mine. I created this look for Olivia Dean's O2 shows as a silver chrome, and it was absolutely stunning in the spotlight." Want to copy the look at your next salon appointment? There are many things we look to the Icelandic musician Laufey for: our new favorite jazz-inspired pop songs, her breezy, ultra-femme style, and her minimalist beauty moments. Luckily, we were served with the latter at the 2026 Met Gala, where the multi-hyphenate floated onto the mossy carpet in front of New York City’s Metropolitan Museum of Art wearing a custom Tory Burch gown, a dainty pouch purse, and a very bridal-coded manicure to match.

This wasn’t Laufey and celebrity manicurist Yoko Sakakura’s first time working together. In fact, the two very recently collaborated on the star’s buzzy Madwoman music video, which included an ultra-buzzy cast list of Heated Rivalry’s Hudson Williams, Lola Tung, Olympian Alysa Liu, and Katseye’s Megan Skiendiel, to outfit the star’s nails for the big project. Sakakura tells Who What Wear exclusively that the two always have conversations about the nails beforehand—it’s not merely a day-of decision. “She enjoys exploring nail ideas along with her sister, Junia [Lin],” she tells WWW. For the Met, this meant all hands on deck.

These conversations centered around the dress: an ivory column gown decked out in small, flower-shaped sequins dotted by small pearls at the center. According to an article from Allure, the dress’s silhouette references her childhood instrument, the cello, in its curvature and shape. The cello not only sounds the most like the female voice, but it also looks the most similar to the female body, which bridged Laufey’s personal connection to the Costume Art theme perfectly.

The best beauty looks of the night all made small references to the fashion on their bodies, and Sakakura’s handiwork was no exception. She started with a pearly white gel polish (Aprés’ Astral Gel Couleur in Balance) to match the swan hue of her dress. Next up were the trendy accents. “For this specific look, I hand-made small flowers to mimic the details of her dress,” the manicurist explained. The request was that these 3D decals—a trend we’ve seen amongst Margot Robbie, Kylie Jenner, and the fashion elite—be made of sequins to match the Tory Burch embellishments.

In varying clusters of five to six holographic white sequins with small pearl deposits in the middle, Sakakura painstakingly placed every small disc. That said, she promises that you, too, can achieve this look at home with a little patience. “It is very easy to create this look,” the nail artist assures. “Add five circle sequins, place them like flower petals, and add a tiny pearl in the middle and dry (if polish) or cure [if gel] to set the art,” she explains.

“This look is more editorial because of the 3D flowers,” says Sakakura, though she admits that she thinks it’s “trendy” to use small sequins, especially holographic ones, to make chic nail art in 2026. The placement feels intentional, with some nails left plain to show off the shimmery white polish, while one to two accent fingers bear the beautiful blooms. Though this look would also look stunning on long nails for wedding season, we especially love how each flower frames her short tips. “Laufey likes her nails natural and short because she plays instruments,” Sakakura explains.

ICYMI, Chanel just debuted its cruise 26/27 collection in Biarritz, a seaside town on the Basque Coast. It's far from the brand's Parisian headquarters, but it has deep historical significance. Gabrielle Chanel chose Biarritz to open her couture house in 1915. Now, 111 years later, Matthieu Blazy used it as the backdrop of his first Cruise Collection.

ICYMI, Chanel just debuted its cruise 26/27 collection in Biarritz, a seaside town on the Basque Coast. It's far from the brand's Parisian headquarters, but it has deep historical significance. Gabrielle Chanel chose Biarritz to open her couture house in 1915. Now, 111 years later, Matthieu Blazy used it as the backdrop of his first Cruise Collection.

Using the sun, sea, and sand as motifs, Chanel sent models down the runway wearing silk foulards, "rustling" raffia skirts, and cotton-canvas suiting. The accompanying beauty look wasn't far behind—think dewy, sun-kissed skin, windswept hair, and shimmering, mermaid-inspired manicures.

The latter were particularly stunning. Nail artist Ama Quashie designed six dégradé colorways, ranging from cool nautical blues to sandy yellows and solar reds. Her client roster reads like a list of internet It girls: Hailey Bieber, Sabrina Carpenter, Kendall and Kylie Jenner… I could go on. She creates stunning manicures for major pop culture events, including award shows, music videos, and, most recently, headlining Coachella performances. You may have heard that April showers bring May flowers, but the month that inspires endless springtime sayings also delivers inspiration for nail polish shades that capture the joy of the season. What better way to celebrate blooming florals, bright blue skies, and the return of whimsy in our wardrobes than by wearing manicures that are just as colorful and eye-catching? This April, celebrity nail artist for Sally Hansen Stephanie Stone tells us the month will be all about getting playful with nails. "We've seen so much adventurous nail art coming out of Coachella, and I have a feeling these dopamine nails are going to be embraced well through the summer," she says. While creamy, neutral shades will still be on the scene as we head into the warmer months, you can fully expect to see an uptick in lively, energetic hues combined with the season's best nail art trends like rainbow French tips, berry polka dots, and lavender chrome.

According to Stone, the rainbow-French-tip trend combines the classic with the experimental. "You can achieve it with a micro-French to be more discreet or wear it on long square tips to get a look that really makes a statement. The key is using bright colors that really pop!" says Stone. Her favorite polishes for this are from Sally Hansen's Insta-Dri Electric Feels collection: Neon Nitro ($6), a creamy neon green, and Peachy Flare ($6), a coral-peach color. Micro polka-dot manicures will also be making the rounds in April. "Last year's inverted color polka dots on each hand swept over the internet faster than Dubai chocolate. However, polka dots have stood the test of time and still resonated with the nail art lovers, this time in the color choices of a rich berry and soft cream," Stone continues.

To pull off berry polka-dot nails, she recommends using two polishes from the Sally Hansen Insta-Dri Flower Powder collection, Dragon Fruit Crush ($6), for a fuchsia flush of color, and Vanilla Bean Vibe ($6), a shimmering white. Additionally, Stone shares that the lavender chrome manicure is the ideal choice for the individuals who like wearing a simple statement nail and that Sally Hansen's Ube-Delicious ($6), a shimmering purple, is "art in a bottle." For a subtler lavender finish, Stone likes Whirlway Wildflower ($6) for matte dry-down and a chic satin look.

I scanned the runways and showrooms for the beauty moments worth re-creating, from the playful finishes at the high-energy Tanner Fletcher presentation to the pillow-soft complexions of Monique Lhuillier framed by layers of lace. Once upon a time, there was a bride who, after endless wedding-hairstyling trials of cascading curls and sleek chignons, opted to add texture to her tresses with an editorial twist. The Alexandra Grecco S/S 27 bridal collection—Dream, Baby, Dream—paired elegant silhouettes featuring subtle nods to Ziegfeld Follies with dimensional short crops and textural buns crowned with sweeping veils, cream-colored plumes, and wired headpieces. Meanwhile, House of Gilles's spring 2027 bridal collection balanced structure with softness as models posed in dramatic couture gowns with bleached and slicked-back strands that had a wet look. Whether you decide to embrace your inner silver-screen siren or try a bold pixie, a lightweight styling spray for instant texture and hold paired with frizz-taming styling cream can create the look you're after.

The dewy, luminous complexions that captured our attention throughout 2025 are finally giving way to the velvet textures and whispered elegance of soft-matte bridal makeup. The Enaura Kantha collection delivered vintage and romantic looks with modern sophistication in strong silhouettes and French lace. The timeless makeup its models wore demonstrated the artistic intentionality behind the 2027 designs. Soft-matte complexions were warmed and sculpted with bronzer, then balanced with dewy blush. Elie Saab's approach to the trend combined blurred skin with full brows and a pale-pink wash of color on the lips that gave an otherwise minimalist makeup look a bold focal point.

Cherubic, rococo-inspired makeup took over the bridal week runways this year, notably with blush added to the cheeks for a natural flush of color in petal pink and berry. Tanner Fletcher's S/S 27 collection was unveiled as a modern Cinderella retelling with playful pastels. Cassandra Garcia, the Bobbi Brown global pro artist behind the enchanting makeup look, shared it was inspired by Marie Antoinette, incorporating fun, flirty touches and an extra dash of blush. "We're playing with beautiful pastel tones on the eyes paired wit a softly bitten lip that's perfectly imperfect," Garcia says. "The overall effect is fresh, playful, and effortlessly feminine." Monique Lhuillier's, Sarah Seven's, and Elie Saab's collections offered similar takes on the sweet trend with a blurred, watercolor-like effect that added a flush of color and gentle definition.

A year ago, wedding manicure trends championed "your nails but better" shades, medium lengths, and little-to-no art besides a micro French tip, but in 2027, manicures are venturing into a world of milky shades with pearlescent finishes. For Tanner Fletcher's show, manicures were kept short and clean in decadent, creamy pastels and neutrals to match the bridal collection (which included minidresses mischievously adorned with cherries and whipped cream and cream-colored gowns with floral waist detailing). At Alexandra Grecco, cool-toned metallic nails felt modern, retro, and everything in between. For milky nails, opt for pigmented cream, baby blue, and chrome with a whisper of white.

The Honor, Alexandra Grecco, and Ines Di Santo spring/summer 2027 bridal collections featured vintage-inspired designs with beaded detailing and floor-sweeping hemlines and were presented with makeup looks with a hint of shimmer. Garcia says Ines Di Santo's makeup reflected the two distinct collections introduced, each with a unique expression of modern beauty. "The look centers on a subtle wash of color across the eyes and lips balanced by luminous, radiant skin," she explains. "It's a refined, contemporary take on the blushing bridge—fresh, polished, and effortlessly elegant." Honor's Collection XII celebrated the end of the ceremony (the bride's swan song) with silhouettes and swan motifs inspired by the late 1950s and early 1960s. The beauty echoed this, with makeup featuring a clean, dewy base and a sparkling splash of color across the cheek and eyes.

Sabrina Carpenter's headlining Coachella performance set the internet ablaze, due to the set design (shout-out to the car fountain) and celebrity guest appearances (Sam Elliott, Susan Sarandon, Will Ferrell, and Samuel L. Jackson). It also included some major fashion and beauty moments, thanks to custom Dior and a not-to-be-missed manicure. The latter was a chrome, cherry-cola-esque set.

Celebrity nail artist Zola Ganzorigt used OPI products to create Carpenter's "vintage red" manicure. She used the professional-only Intelli-Gel line, but the good news is that you can secure the same shades in the brand's traditional nail lacquer. Glazed nails are still going strong as the #1 nail trend—at least, that's what celebs seem to think. Recently, Hailey Bieber, Kendall Jenner, and Sabrina Carpenter all sported variations of the iconic, internet-famous "glazed donut" manicure, which was originally coined and created by their go-to nail artist, Zola Ganzorigt.

The original "glazed donut" manicure formula included OPI's GelColor in Funny Bunny ($18) and the Tin Man Can Chrome Effect Powder. This was a silvery-white topper that gave gel nail polish that gorgeous, glazed effect we now associate with celebs like Hailey Bieber. Here's the thing, though. It's been out of stock and unavailable to purchase for a while now. In its absence, people had to get creative to achieve the A-list manicure. Some people used pearly nail polishes to achieve a similar effect. Others turned to press-on nails. Others, still, booked salon appointments to gain access to salon-specific chrome finishes.

Well, I'm pleased to announce that, due to the recent popularity of the "glazed donut" manicure (thanks in no small part to Ganzorigt!), OPI has rereleased the Chrome Effect Powder, albeit with a slightly different name. Meet Tin Man Can Glaze. It's the very same silvery-white chrome effect that we all know and love, with a name that pays homage to one of the most popular nail trends in recent history. And it's the *exact* item that Ganzorigt used to create Bieber's, Jenner's, and Carpenter's glazed manicures.

How to Use It

After prepping your nails (trimming, shaping, and completing cuticle care), the brand recommends lightly buffing the nails and cleaning them with 99% isopropyl alcohol. Then, apply a thin coat of OPI's GELement Base Coat ($16) to four fingers. Cure for 60 seconds under a UV lamp. Repeat the process on the thumb.

Then, repeat the process with a thin coat of gel nail color. Finally, reach for the GELement No-Wipe Top Coat ($16). Apply a thin coat to four fingers, and soft-cure them for 30 seconds (this will leave the top coat slightly tacky for optimum chrome adhesion). Lightly dip the applicator into the glazing powder and rub it over the nail in circular motions. Dust off the excess and apply a final layer of top coat, curing it for 60 seconds. Finish with nail and cuticle oil.

It might sound like a long process, and it might take some practice. Once you get it down, though, you'll have achieved an A-list glazed manicure at home.

Whilst spring 2025 was all about leaning into nostalgia with bold, negative space designs, micro-French manicures and coquette nails featuring 3D decals, this time around, we're expecting the nail space to transform once more as the trend cycle continues. However, experts are saying the season's top nail looks will look significantly less "trendy" than we've seen in the past.

In true Who What Wear beauty editor fashion, I reached out to two celebrity nail artists for the insider's scoop on which nail designs will be falling out of style just in time for the temperatures to rise, and everything that will be taking their place. Celebrity manicurist Queenie Nguyen predicts a shift away from the maximalist, high-drama nails that dominated spring last year. "Trends that you might not see include overly bling 'junk nails', thicker, high contract french tips, enlarged 3D elements, or even extreme shapes like an ultra sharp stiletto," Nguyen explains. Celebrity nail artist Analysse Hernandez shares that she and her clients have been experimenting with fresh designs, departing from the blooming gel flower nails that made appearances for spring over the last two years.

"I love how buildable and versatile this flower was in sets, but I do feel like my clients are now gravitating toward more realistic nail art," she adds. I believe each month champions different beauty aesthetics, and where a trend's wearability and lasting impact is concerned, the easiest way to get an idea of what will be trending in the beauty space (particularly colors, patterns, and textures) is studying what's happening on the manicures of the most stylish people. When I'm not quizzing myself on how quickly I can ID a stunning nail polish shade with little to no visibility, I'm asking to see the nails of anyone with a manicure that makes me impulsively make an appointment at my nail salon to try it.

Now, I'm not saying I show my nail tech exactly what I'd like to wear, but I enjoy giving wide perimeters to bring my manicures to life. March has always been one of the more challenging months for me to land on a nail look to carry me into spring, but it's not impossible. All notable beauty trends start somewhere, and Evelyn Lim, chief educator at MiniLuxe's Paintbox Studio in New York City, recommends looking to the New York Fashion Week runway for pointers on what could be on the rise next. "Some trends I'm seeing for March are punk- and goth-inspired manicures with shades of silver chrome, black, and grays seen with long stiletto nails," she shares. Lim has also been spotting demure pastel colors as a rising trend, and powder blue, frosty pink, and butter yellow on short squoval nails are taking the lead. "I would love to see the soft pastel colors on a micro French tip. It brings a playfulness to a timeless, elegant look perfect for spring," Lim adds.

This manicure by Paiwa Loves combines Y2K graphic nail art with minimalist space and gilded details. While its negative space puts the gold leaves front and center, eyes are also drawn to the pops of green and white against a milky, pink base.

Throwback Patterns

I took a break from almond nails after noticing breakage from back-to-back gel manicures. Four months later, I've returned to wearing almond-shaped nails with playful Y2K influences. The deep-brown polka dots are incredibly chic, and I love the white beads, but the playful wave design gives me a dose of nostalgia.

She adds that this season’s colours are a departure from traditional sugary pastels in favour of muted, cool-toned shades.

Juanita Huber-Millet, founder of luxury nail salon Townhouse, agrees, adding that this spring is about escapism with restraint. “Think soft, sun-warmed colours and a more thoughtful approach to pastels,” she says. “Instead of anything overly bright or saturated, we’re seeing a move towards milky, muted tones and warm, skin-flattering shades that feel fresh but still understated. It’s a palette inspired by travel, light and escapism—colours that look like little snapshots from somewhere beautiful.”

This tonal shift in nail trends mirrors the colour stories we’ve seen on the spring/summer runways, where designers balanced expressive colour with softened, sun-warmed tones. Fendi delivered vibrant yellows and aquatic blues woven through graphic prints, while Erdem leaned into romantic florals and lilac-adjacent hues and Burberry incorporated fresh greens and heritage-inflected neutrals into its spring palette.

Think sun-blush tomato, ripened red pepper and poppy tones rather than deep winter wines. "These warmer reds, feel joyful and energising, but still timeless. They add personality while staying chic," explains Huber-Millet.

Pastel blue returns every spring, but this year it’s diffused and softened. "The milky finish makes it feel calm, airy and elevated rather than sweet," reveals Huber-Millet, who adds that there is a strong demand for shades like blueberry milk from customers who want a subtle colour moment that still feels refined.

3. Ethereal Magnetics

In the latter half of last year, manicures took a decisive turn toward movement and dimension in the form of cat-eye designs. "While winter colours brought this trend to life with deep, luxurious liquid velvet greens and reds, for spring, we’re seeing magnetics evolve into something more ethereal," explains Kalnina. Case in point? This shimmering beige set gives a finish akin to moving fabric.

4. Soft Peach

Continuing that sun-drenched story, peach is set to be one of the defining shades of the season, believes Huber-Millet. But, she says, for 2026, it’s softer and creamier. "Think less neon, more glow-from-within. These shades brighten the hands without overwhelming them. It’s fresh, flattering and feels effortless."

5. Meringue Whites

As pastels soften, stark white is being replaced by creamy, coconut-toned and meringue neutrals. "These milky whites feel much more luxurious and wearable and beautiful as a full manicure or as a base for modern French tips, which remain hugely popular in our salons,” says Huber-Millet.

6. Citrus Refresh

"For those who naturally lean toward colour, we are seeing a rise in soft, acidic yellow pastels," says Huber-Millet. It’s a fresh alternative to traditional spring lemon shades and rich butter yellow pastel.

It takes a truly trained eye to identify the exact shade of pink or chrome used on the nails of bouquet-toting brides, but having intel from the talented nail artists who create them can make all the difference in my search for the year's most notable wedding manicures.

This time around, I got ahead of the 2026 wedding season (and New York Bridal Fashion Week) by tapping international manicurist Georgia Rae for her official predictions for the nail looks and popular polish shades that will be worn by stylish people as they head down the aisle.

1. Natural Elegance

If you've noticed clean, barely-there wedding manicures on the rise lately, you're not alone, and 2026 will see an uptick in the number of nail looks that naturally accentuate what's already there. "The no-mani mani trend is huge right now, and I think we'll see that influence carry into 2026 bridal nails," Rae tells Who What Wear. "Brides are moving toward manicures that enhance the natural nail rather than overpower it."

2. Soft Shimmer

Gone are the days of chunky glitter for wedding manicures. This year will be all about nails with a diffused shine. Julia Diogo created this manicure using two thin coats of Anthea by Bio Sculpture, but Londontown's Enhanced Colour in Dream Scene ($16) offers a similar look to give you a natural glow.

Rae predicts that blush tones will reign supreme this year for wedding nail looks, so it's time to stock up on your pink polish. With wedding season on the horizon, we're already starting to hear rumblings of clean French manicures making their triumphant return. "I predict a rise in ultra-subtle French manicures. Think a sheer pink base with a soft, sheer white tip," says Rae. These will focus less on contrast and more on enhancing brightness for the illusion of naturally perfect nails.
