The second I saw Chloé's new winter 2026 campaign, Tom Petty's "Wildflowers" started playing in my head. The photos, captured on a cliff-top meadow by Inez Van Lamsweerde and Vinoodh Matadin, perfectly embody the song's themes of comfort, peace, and unburdening. Sure, the flowers and the sea view are literal elements of the song, which Petty wrote as an escape from a tumultuous time in his personal life, but I'm more focused on the feeling the images evoke—a vibe best explained by the designer herself.

"For this campaign, I wanted to express devotion through women, the vastness of open landscapes, and craftsmanship," Chemena Kamali, creative director of Chloé, said in a press release. "Nature brings us back to instinct, freedom, and connection. In that openness, femininity unfolds with untamed strength and togetherness." With the wind at their backs, Raquel Zimmermann, Jacqui Louise, Thalita Ferreira, and Sarah Isaksen modeled Chloé's billowy, romantic dresses, plaid coats, embroidered blouses, over-the-knee boots, Paddington bags, and more. Luxury fashion isn't short on comeback stories. Every season seems to resurrect another dormant brand—complete with a polished archive, a reverent mood board, and the promise of relevance for a new generation. But in the case of shoe label Herbert Levine, the brand's return feels different. It's not that the 20th-century shoe label has been rediscovered per se. Rather, it's come back from the dead altogether.

For nearly half a century, Herbert Levine existed more as fashion folklore than a functioning label. Founded in New York in 1948 by husband and wife Herbert and Beth Levine, the house became synonymous with inventive American footwear. Beth Levine, the creative force behind the brand, approached shoes with the curiosity of an industrial designer and the imagination of an artist, pioneering transparent footwear, sculptural heels, and fashion boots years before they were trends, and her designs were worn by the biggest stars, such as Cher, Liza Minnelli, and Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis. Manolo Blahnik famously called her "the most influential American shoe designer of the 20th century."

In 1975, the label quietly shuttered due to pressure to cut corners on manufacturing quality and cost in an attempt to keep up with the accessories industry at large, according to Beth and Herbert's daughter, Anna Thomson-Wilson, so when investors decided to revive the label 50 years later, it wasn't enough for them to simply find someone who could re-create Beth's older silhouettes. They needed someone who understood why the brand even mattered in the first place.

Enter Trevor Houston.

The 36-year-old's résumé reads like a tour of modern fashion's most influential shoe departments. Marc Jacobs, Coach, Tory Burch, The Row, and Khaite all have relied on Houston's eye for footwear design. Those lattice jelly flats everyone wore last year? You have Houston to thank for that. Frankly, Houston's appointment felt inevitable. Long before he became Herbert Levine's creative director, he was one of its most devoted collectors, filling his New York apartment with vintage pairs and studying Beth Levine's work with almost academic precision.

"Probably 65% of the shoes that I collect are Herbert Levine," Houston told Vogue shortly after his appointment. That lifelong fascination wasn't simply a personal hobby. It ultimately became the reason Luvanis, the investment group behind the revival, sought him out.

It's a bold move that becomes increasingly convincing the deeper you dive into Beth's archive. Her shoes were whimsical without becoming novelty pieces, technically sophisticated without sacrificing wearability. They embodied a distinctly American optimism—equal parts art, object, and everyday luxury.

Houston's challenge wasn't to re-create those designs stitch for stitch. It was to revive that spirit.

The result is a collection that feels familiar only in philosophy. Pumps arrive with dramatically deep V-shaped vamps. Sheer knee-high boots reference Beth's fascination with transparency without feeling too on the nose for retro fashion. Sculptural flip-flops, softly ruched heels, and unexpected proportions all nod to the original house's playful DNA while speaking fluently to today's fashion audience.

That approach feels particularly timely. Fashion has entered an era where the most coveted accessories aren't necessarily the loudest. They're the ones that reveal themselves slowly. The modern cool girl isn't chasing logos so much as intelligent design, the kind of piece another fashion person notices from across the room.

The original brand closed in 1975, but its ideas never disappeared. Beth Levine's innovations found their way into museum collections, fashion textbooks, and the work of countless designers who followed. Today's Herbert Levine isn't attempting to convince shoppers that the archive deserves another look. It's making the case that the archive was always pointing toward the future. Just take a look at the brand's e-commerce arm, which just launched earlier this month to meet tastemakers where they are: digitally native, highly connected, and always chasing the latest It-shoe.

In many ways, Houston's greatest contribution has been resisting the temptation to over explain that legacy. Instead, he has translated it into something instinctive: shoes that feel a little smarter, a little stranger, and infinitely more memorable than the sea of minimalist pumps currently crowding the luxury market.

It's an approach rooted less in nostalgia than in confidence—the confidence to believe that originality never really goes out of style.

Herbert Levine may be in its second act, but under Trevor Houston, it doesn't feel like a revival. It feels like a story that was simply waiting for fashion to catch up.

Earlier this year, I made the decision to curb my shopping by setting a spending limit on trendy purchases so I don't end up with a closet full of individual pieces that I struggle to style together and so I can actually save up for worthwhile wardrobe investments that will ideally outlast trends and outsmart the seasons. I'm more interested than ever before in building a wardrobe that's timeless and trend-agnostic and, most importantly, feels like me.

I know I'm not the only one feeling this way, either. Trend fatigue feels like it's at an all-time high, and I think the answer to this exhaustion lies in a "fewer but better" mindset. With that, I've curated my list of the eight highly specific items that I think are worthy of the investment. They're cool, they're classic, and they're ultimately made to last. I hate to say it, but not all satin pants are created equal. Bias-cut pieces are especially hard to get right, and after spending some time trying on styles from all the top brands, the Vince pair is far and away my favorite pick. For me, it's the way the elastic waistband is hidden, so from the front, all you see is one smooth flow of fabric down to the hem, and the satin has enough weight to drape beautifully. I don't say this often, but they're worthy of buying in every color.

The Anteros has built its reputation on doing one thing exceptionally well: the button-down shirt. The brand is rooted in shirting that feels chic and elevated but still timeless and versatile. Drew Vickers captures models Chu Wong, Selena Forrest and Sihana Shalaj in a series of posed and candid shots, wearing outfits from casual to corporate and evening that showcase just how versatile these handbags are.

Style Notes: Lauren Hutton immortalised this Intrecciato clutch in American Gigolo (1980), a cult film that propelled Bottega Veneta into the cultural spotlight. This frame-structured pouch (with a delicate chain strap) re-launched in 2016, carried down the runway by none other than Hutton herself. And when Trotter took the reins in 2025, she immediately paid respect to the house’s original It bag for her first show, making sure the actor was front row. Hutton’s original Barolo colourway is a favourite, but we're also very into Espresso and Sea Salt for their versatility.

Style Notes: Created during Trotter’s tenure, the Barbara is totally new to the Bottega family. The house has already nailed daytime bags and their "ladylike" clutch counterparts, so a practical city-slicker tote like this to hold your laptop fills a gap. The Baby Barbara is coming later this summer. For the woman who loves the easy access of a structured bag, not to mention the desk-to-dinner versatility of a smarter silhouette, this mini iteration is ideal.

Style Notes: There’s a playful Trotter twist on the new-gen 2026 Madison design: a "memory" flap that can be reshaped time and time again, which freshens up this classic chain-strap bag. Named after Bottega’s first New York store (and indeed the first store outside of Italy), which opened in 1972, this bag was once part of a limited-edition run by former creative director Tomas Maier, and now it’s a hero piece.

All summer long, we've been going on and on about beaded sandals, but what if I were to tell you that it was all to prime you for the main event: fall 2026's most anticipated shoe trend. It all started at Tory Burch's S/S 26 show in New York way back in September of 2025. Inside a Brooklyn bank, the designer sent a slew of elegant ensembles (with a twist) down the runway, many with beaded kitten heels to complete the looks. Speaking to Brigitte Chartrand, the chief buying and merchandising officer of NET-A-PORTER, she explains this new wave is a “city-forward take on preppy dressing that feels effortless”. “Celine, Prada and Polo Ralph Lauren are the main references for this trend, and they have given preppy a refreshing feel with refined colour palettes, sports jackets and cable knits, and Versace also added touches of pastel to the trend too.”

This is something that Gab Waller, a leading fashion source who has secured nearly-impossible-to-track-down pieces for the likes of Hailey Bieber and Rosie Huntington-Whiteley, has noticed, too. “People are craving clothes that feel timeless and intentional rather than trend-driven,” she explains over email. “The difference is that no one is following the old rules anymore, and that’s what makes it feel fresh. Today, preppy is just as likely to be styled with streetwear, vintage finds, or a touch of grunge as it is with classic tailoring.

What’s clear is that people are losing connection to the scholarly origins of the trend, despite finding the effortlessly elegant staples of preppy fashion aspirational. Speaking on the specific rise of the urban preppy trend, the Australian-born, Los Angeles-based business owner explains that “Preppy style may have originated in Ivy League spheres, but the people wearing it now have little ties to these institutions,” Waller remarks.

“Brands have evolved alongside their customers, who are living in cities, building careers, going out, and constantly on the go. As a result, tailoring has become sharper, fabrics more refined, and the overall aesthetic has matured, transforming preppy from something that resembles a school uniform into a sophisticated wardrobe designed for contemporary adult life.”

As a result, this elevated interpretation has become a way to balance a contemporary, on-the-move lifestyle that comes with living in a major metropolis with the understated sophistication seen in heritage settings like grammar schools, private members' clubs and exclusive colleges. This trend “borrows the polish of traditional preppy but drops the costume-y feel and swaps it for something fresher,” Waller adds. “A silk scarf might be tied around the head instead of the neck, a great blazer could be worn slightly undone, with the sleeves pushed up and no tie, and loafers may be worn with intentionally visible socks that add contrast.”

What you won’t see as part of the urban preppy fashion trend, however, is anything that feels overly fussy, hackneyed or trite. (Chunky boat shoes and garishly striped rugby shirts, here's looking at you.) This trend is all about rendering core wardrobe staples with a fluid and casual sensibility. These are pieces that require very little thought to be pieced together into an ensemble because of how inherently versatile they are.

Relaxed shirting, delicate knitwear and soft jeans will always feel in place amongst one another, but there are several key pieces that encompass the urban preppy trend better than others. After all, this is clothing for the former bookworms who grew up to have careers at Gagosian and exclusively drink pét nat. Style Notes: For the uninitiated, the urban preppy fashion trend is being spearheaded by Michael Ryder, the newly appointed creative director for Celine. Style Notes: It would be remiss to discuss the rise of the urban preppy fashion trend without mentioning Matthieu Blazy’s momentous Métiers d'art 2026 Collection for Chanel. In his sophomore collection for the brand, he made the quotidian setting of a downtown subway station the most glamorous place in the world with a cast of Manhattanites that represented the entire cross-section of city life. Mobsters! Waspy mothers! Columbia students!

It’s this idea of rendering a truly mundane essential through the most opulent lens that summarises the essence of the urban preppy trend. There are a few key spring and summer events that help our editors keep an eye out for inspiration and trends, runways, of course, red carpets, after-parties and The Met Gala.

This year Hunter Schafer wore one of our team's favourite red carpet looks of the night, which was a custom Prada gown inspired by Gustav Klimt's "Mäda Primavesi." Then, for the Saint Laurent after-party at People's Bar in New York City, she changed into a custom dress by emerging British designer Steve O Smith and carried one particular accessory: Prada's Wish Pouch.

That made me think back to the Italian luxury house's spring and summer 2026 runway show, where the bag appeared multiple times throughout the collection, taking an essentials-only approach to dressing: phone, keys, wallet. The silhouette comes in three materials—silk, Re-Nylon, and leather—and in a range of shades including black, grey, orange and even pink.

Pouches also appeared at Loewe's, Miu Miu's, and Valentino's spring and summer 2026 shows and even at Celine's autumn and winter 2026 presentation—a nostalgic eveningwear aesthetic reminiscent of the dainty styles dating back to the late 18th century.

Just when I thought Matthieu Blazy couldn't possibly one-up his last shoe collection for Chanel, his second couture offering for the French house debuted this week, proving yet again that there's no underestimating the designer from Paris. In total, Blazy sent 62 invigorating looks down the runway at Chanel's F/W 26 couture show, a handful of which included a shoe color trend that I've been wanting to see come back for some time now. In my opinion, no brand had done it well enough to dip my toe in again. I should have known it'd be Blazy who got the job done.

The designer's now-beloved dipped-toe pumps got the metallic treatment, with everything from leopard-print to burgundy suede footwear getting dipped into liquid gold or silver. There's even a silver pony-hair pair with a bulbous white heel and a dipped gold toe. Another iteration with a black toe features a dipped gold heel as well as embellishments that give the shoes an ethereal touch that perfect fit the vibe of the nature-forward environment.

As I said, I've been eyeing this shoe color trend for a while now, feeling like it would return but not seeing enough solid proof to call it just yet. Sparkly silver footwear made its way into Gucci's S/S 26 collection, and online, a slew of subtle alternatives are also available, including sleek, futuristic thong sandals. Alaïa, Valentino, and Loewe have all, too, added more metallics to their shoe offerings in recent seasons. A pair even showed up in Chanel's viral Métiers d'Art collection that debuted in New York, but it wasn't until now that the brand really leaned in.

What makes this specific shoe trend so exciting is how "out" metallic shoes were for so long. They'd gotten a bad rep and just needed a creative to bring them back to the forefront, offering new styles and ways to wear them. That, and their surprising versatility. Think about them like jewelry for your feet. If you’ve been inundated with shots of moulded corsets, beanstalk heels and knotted satin dresses all over your social media feeds, it should come as no surprise that we’re currently in the midst of the fall/winter 2026-2027 Haute Couture Week. The most prestigious of all fashion weeks, the bi-annual event is a showcase of wearable artistry, with the capabilities of hallowed ateliers and the exceptional work of the petites mains (a French phrase that refers to the seamstresses, embroiderers, milliners and button makers who create these garments) on full display.

Presenting a collection during the exclusive event is by invitation only, and controlled by Paris’s Fédération de la Haute Couture et de la Mode, meaning that only the most exceptional maisons can participate. The result is garments that are nothing short of masterpieces, often taking hundreds of hours to complete and rendered with painstakingly accurate, breathtakingly beautiful hand-stitched embroidery, flourishes, sequins and accents.

Each garment is then made to order using the precise measurements of the ultra-high-net-worth clients who have the extreme fortune of taking these creations home. However, for many of us, it is just a privilege to revel in the sight of these showpieces. Everything of Note From Fall/Winter 2026–2027 Haute Couture Week

1. At Schiaparelli, Gaudí, Ghostface and Kinky Silicone

For Schiaparelli’s F/W 26 haute couture collection, creative director Daniel Roseberry penned a manifesto on the "magic of creation" which can be "found only in total surrender to the unknown", as he wrote. "Codes—as beloved as they are—aren’t meant to be static," he continued, explaining his decision to eschew conventional Schiaparelli archetypes for something far more imaginative and inventive.

In place of literal anatomical motifs, subversive, surrealist faces were woven into dresses that resembled the Ghostface villain from the Scream franchise. In the place of keyhole symbols, vibrant fish scales adorned dresses and jackets to resemble the architecture and façades of Gaudí masterpieces, including Barcelona’s Casa Batlló.

Furthering the French maison’s innovative spirit, Roseberry fused quotidian materials with superb craftspersonship, creating breathtaking gowns made from subversive latex and dreamy silicone. Indeed, it’s clear that the upper echelon of fashion has caught jelly fever, with Roseberry rendering this gelatinous and aquatic material into sculptural corsets, coral-inspired skirts and sea urchin sandals.

These bustiers were a focal point for the panoply, made by carving the resin mould by hand before casting it with a porcelain effect and rendering it in hyperrealistic shades that melted to the body.

One exceptional moment came not on the runway but in the hours after. The closing look, modelled by Ivy Stewart, was whisked from the opulent parlour inside the Petit Palais where it was presented that morning and immediately transported to the red carpet at Leicester Square, where Zendaya wore it for the world premiere of The Odyssey that afternoon. Talk about an epic adventure.

Elsewhere, on the front row, Schiaparelli continued its procession of awe-striking designs with the silhouettes it dressed its guests in. Emma Corrin, ever the fashion chameleon, was washed in pastel plumage in a feather-adorned jacket accented with a funnel neckline and protruding, nipple-like talons.

Bad Bunny made his haute couture debut in a buttercream suit and gilded tie that appeared as though he was wearing a plait around his neck. Those in the know will recognise this as a callback to Schiaparelli’s F/W 24 ready-to-wear collection, which invoked the tailoring seen in Pippa Garner's 1987 photography collection, Future Man!

The subjects of the legendary 1990 documentary Paris Is Burning might’ve told us that reading is fundamental, but when it comes to fashion, referencing is clearly even more essential.

2. At Dior, Fans, Ferns and a Glimpse at Jonathan Anderson's Bridal Visions

Jonathan Anderson might’ve designed Taylor Swift’s wedding dress, the first haute couture creation of its kind for a celebrity since the Northern Irish designer took the helm of the brand, but he skipped the exclusive New York City nuptials over the weekend ahead to stay in Paris for Dior’s FW/ 26 haute couture show.

Despite remaining quite tight-lipped after the show—he told the press that "it was a joy to work with her"—he did provide a glimpse of what his vision for a bride would entail. In the esteemed couture tradition, he concluded his collection with a dreamy off-the-shoulder white gown, complete with resplendent fern motifs and rosette details.

Botanicals have been a consistent part of Anderson’s work at the luxuriate, from his lily pad heels to his frog chainmail clutches. This season, it took a starring role as the Jardin des Tuileries was transformed into a greenhouse flanked with black-lacquered wood and lined with fronds. On the runway, a verdant, grass-like fabric was woven throughout the collection, appearing in long robes, cropped bar jackets and fringed scarves.

But where boutonnières and embroidered petals constantly appear, Anderson used the collection to honour the work of American sculptor Lynda Benglis. Using her methodology of knotting and moulding as a framework for textile manipulation, Anderson created sumptuous dresses that pleated like accordions. This idea of folding hit a literal note in the suite of fans that appeared in the collection, perhaps a nod to the fact that Paris had just encountered a record-breaking heatwave in the weeks prior? Metallic plissé hats were also a highlight and cemented Anderson as not only an incredibly cerebral designer, but one who always relishes humorous touches.

On a more serious note, Dior also embraced the long-standing relationship between Benglis and artisans in the Ahmedabad and Gujarat regions by showcasing the Indian crafts of chintz and gemstone carving. The latter, a finely woven cotton textile bearing floral motifs, was on display through the clutch bags that bore antique chintz prints that date back to the 18th century.

If designing the most important dress of Taylor Swift’s life wasn’t the biggest thing to happen to Anderson this week, this sophomore show certainly is. But he wouldn’t get by without a little help from his friends: Sabrina Carpenter, whom he also dressed for her magnum opus Coachella headliner, Josh O’Connor, whom he dressed for Luca Guadagnino’s Challengers and Alexa Chung, who recently wore a custom chartreuse Dior dress to the 2026 Met Gala.

3. At Chanel, Mattieu Blazy Gets His Happily Ever After

Once upon a time, there was a man named Matthieu Blazy who landed the job of one’s dreams as the artistic director of Chanel. The designer knows his life is a fashion fairytale, and for the French maison’s latest haute couture collection, he materialised the whimsical universe he occupies, complete with climbing vines, beanstalk heels and magpie treasures.

The first model stepped out onto the runway carrying a century-old leatherbound book of fairytales that was owned by Coco Chanel herself. Compounding this ode to fantasy was the soundtrack, featuring snippets of The Lord of the Rings soundtrack and "Kiss Me" by Sixpence None The Richer, arguably one of the most romantic songs of the '90s.

The collection itself was laden with references to literary archetypes and folklore, including a miniature sleeping bear bag that would suit the Goldilocks amongst us and stilettos accented with thorned roses à la Beauty and the Beast. The Golden Goose, Swan Lake, Snow White and Princess and the Pea were all obvious references, too.

Elsewhere, the front row was matched with a dramatic lineup, including Teyana Taylor, Pedro Pascal, Sarah Pidgeon, Alexa Demie and Elizabeth Debecki. The most noteworthy addition was Joël Blanc, a French artist who specialises in live watercolour landscapes from prestigious sporting events, including Roland-Garros. In a world fixated on the return of physical media, could there be a more charming form of documentation than this?

The question that remains, however, is whether Chanel would get its happily ever after. Given that Blazy is quite the romantic, the answer should be obvious. In his imagination, however, the narrative doesn’t end with the princess being swept off her feet by her prince and heading down the aisle, despite the presence of a fantastical wedding dress.

Instead, he looks to the lives of Gabrielle Chanel and Princess Diana, ending the show with a "revenge dress" rendered in sultry black, proving that the women he designs for don’t need rescuing, but rather elegant clothes to write their own stories in.

4. At Balenciaga, Pierpaolo Piccioli Returns To Cristóbal's Roots

Cristóbal Balenciaga is heralded as one of the best couturières the world has ever seen. So, it is a demanding task to live up to the reputation of someone so esteemed that his nickname is “The Master”. His successor, Pierpaolo Piccioli, has always worked best in high-stakes settings, with the majority of his most memorable collections at Valentino the most dramatically staged. (Lest we forget the collections that were presented on Rome’s Spanish Steps, Venice’s 12th-Century shipyard or France’s Château de Chantilly.)

For his first haute couture foray as creative director of Balenciaga, Piccoli once again proved himself to be a maestro with a sewing pin. Here, silhouettes, shades and textures were the main visual story, remaining true to the essence of haute couture as a showcase of textile manipulation and craftsmanship. There’s a profound beauty in stripping things back to their purest form. Expressing restraint against conjuring a sartorial spectacle made each silhouette all the more extraordinary.

Here, Piccioli proved himself a virtuoso of colour theory, with the main talking point of the collection being the expressive use of vibrant shades. The collection really ran the gamut of high-octane hues, from vermilion coats to chartreuse gowns and aubergine draped dresses. Some of the standout pieces seamlessly combined several different shades, be it aquamarine blue and slate grey or piquant yellow and royal purple.

If colours were high octane, so were the silhouettes themselves, from the ombre petals that lined one dress to the sequins that adorned another and the rich plumage that cloaked Gigi Hadid as she made her return to the runway.

Though the collection took nine months to create, it isn’t a far departure from the oeuvre he’s been developing over the last quarter-century of his career. And if this collection is anything to go by, we can only wish to have several decades more of him at the helm.

5. At Jean Paul Gaultier, Duran Lantink Becomes Fashion's New Enfant Terrible

After the revolving door of guest designers—including Simone Rocha, Glen Martens and Haider Ackermann—Jean Paul Gaultier has found its artistic lead in Dutch fashion designer Duran Lantink. His debut collection for the French fashion brand had a lukewarm reception, with many criticising his departure from JPG’s signature isms—particularly the marinière stripe, tattooed mesh, and cone bras—as too far gone in the wrong direction. Those naysayers will certainly have a lot to quip about, then, with his debut haute couture collection nothing short of provocative.

The collection itself could be distilled into two desperate ideas. The first surrounded Lantink’s interest in the opulent wardrobes of Louis IV and Marie Antoinette. Rather than take a Sofia Coppola route and subvert the 18th-century silhouettes with contemporary touches, he took a far more digital approach. Indeed, the second theme woven throughout the collection was one that interrogated the role of technology in the creation of fashion.

Here, we melded crinoline skirts with protruding elements, creating shapes that can only be described as what Demi Moore/Margaret Qualley looked like at the end of The Substance. As it did with the former Queen of France, this collection really only had one ending, and that was to send people off with their heads. But what’s a fashion week without a shade of discourse, hey?

6. At Robert Wun, Haute Couture Is Simply "Childsplay"

Robert Wun has become somewhat of a haute couture darling, imbuing the week with an element of magical realism, irony and exceptional craftsmanship. Much like Viktor and Rolf, the Hong Kong-born, London-based designer uses his runway as a forum to create pieces that can conveniently never be worn in mundane settings. There’s no mistaking his pieces as wearable art, even if the remit of where these pieces are suitable for is fairly limited.

His latest collection hit a joyful note, invoking the essence of childhood in ballgowns splattered with splashes of paint, geometric dresses that served as literal building blocks and models carrying adult-sized stuffed animals, including a tweed bear.

The pièce de résistance, however, was the closing look. In a gown that’s reminiscent of the No-Face ghost from Spirited Away, Wun evoked the memories of pre-school parties with a train made out of colourful balloons. Call it a commentary on inflation, or the state of pop-ular culture, but at a time where the state of things feels so precarious, there’s something sweet about returning to this youthful innocence and a time where pining for a blow-up dog and a slice of cake was your only concern. Much like Chloé’s Disney Princess-coded jelly mules, fashion is regressing to its most innocent self.

7. It's a Wonderful World at Pandora With a Chic Party Featuring Alexa Chung, Harry Lambert and Dree Hemingway

As anyone who has attended a fashion week would know, some of the most notable moments aren’t on schedule. (Just look at the fuss Connor Storrie’s Saint Laurent PVC trench coat caused amid a record-breaking heatwave.) Copenhagen-based jewellery brand Pandora, capitalised on the fact fashion’s eyes were on Paris by hosting the launch of their new Pandora Wonders collection.

Co-created with London-based stylist Harry Lambert, the new range reimagines freshwater pearls into childhood-invoking shapes, including ice cream cones and whimsical mushrooms. To celebrate the release of the limited-edition pieces, Pandora and Lambert threw a party at Le Gratin with the chicest guest list, including Dree Hemingway, Alexa Chung, Pat McGrath and Paloma Elsesser. To accompany the novelties, the Danish brand leaned into the French salon feeling with freshly shucked oysters, caviar bumps and free-flowing champagne. We just hope everyone made it to their shows the next morning…

There’s a misconception that working in fashion means dressing like a character from Sex and the City or The Devil Wears Prada every day, effortlessly mixing and matching statement pieces with the latest trend du jour. I spent a decade working as an editor, and one of the biggest things the industry taught me was that I didn’t have to buy into every single trend. When you're constantly immersed in fashion weeks, runway shows, and trend reports, you begin to see how quickly everything cycles "in" and "out" of favour. There have been countless times where a trendy piece I bought was the first thing to go when it came time to weed out my wardrobe the following season. So, over time, I learned to hone in on what I actually like and what feels true to me—regardless of whether it’s been deemed "in fashion" that season—and build my wardrobe around that.

Uniform dressing starts with identifying key pieces or hero items that you can easily mix and match, making getting dressed feel effortless. I first found myself being drawn to this way of dressing during a particularly frigid winter around 2017. I became obsessed with the Wolford Colorado bodysuit, and that became the MVP for every outfit. It was the perfect layering piece, but more often than not, I would pair it with high-waisted, straight-leg jeans and ankle boots, so I could have more fun with statement outerwear. It was simple, sleek and a silhouette that made me feel my best every time I wore it.

Of course, this idea is hardly unique. Some of the industry’s most brilliant creatives, despite being responsible for creating and dictating the trends, don’t actually participate in said trends. Whether it’s Phoebe Philo, Jonathan Anderson or the late Karl Lagerfeld, they often took their bows at the end of their runway shows in their own version of a "uniform".

Philo typically sticks to black trousers and a slouchy knit. Similarly, Anderson is often seen in jeans and neutral knitwear. Lagerfeld famously always wore black suits with a high-neck shirt—and of course, his signature fingerless gloves. Diane von Furstenberg turned her uniform of a colourful wrap dress into a fashion empire. The idea of having a personal uniform has also extended outside of the fashion industry. Steve Jobs became famous for wearing an Issey Miyake black mockneck turtleneck with his jeans every day whilst he worked at Apple.

"I love uniforms because they allow you to hide," says Miuccia Prada, another example of someone who takes a clear formulaic approach to how she dresses. She's often photographed in long skirts (she loves them pleated or voluminous) paired with a button-down shirt or a crewneck sweater—simple silhouettes that she returns to again and again even if she introduces colour or embellishments into the mix. I’m not sure how much hiding she's really doing, but it does allow the focus to really stay on her collections.

My own relationship with uniform dressing has evolved over the decade I’ve been practising this styling technique. For instance, my winter uniform doesn’t translate so well for spring or summer, especially when the warmer months feel more ripe for experimentation. But for the last few summers, I’ve found myself drawn to a halterneck, whether it’s just a top or a dress. I used to view them as a bit juvenile, something you wear in high school or college. Now, at 40, I’ve had a big change of heart. To me, it feels very feminine and sexy without being overtly so, and styled the right way, I think it can look playful and sophisticated. Not all halters are created equal, though. I prefer the polish of a square halter top that cuts straight across the bust, or a teardrop shape.

A few years ago, I bought a simple white ribbed halter from Aritzia, and my love for it has only grown since then, which is ultimately what inspired me to create this summer uniform around it. One of the most important lessons about building a personal uniform, though, when you find something that truly works, buy multiples. Sadly, Aritzia stopped making this top, but like any expert shopper, I’ve been able to track down extras on Depop, so I’m well covered. A St. Agni halter dress I purchased this spring also inspired me to double down on this silhouette.

Of course, that doesn't mean you can never veer off that path. I love fashion and having fun with clothes—I will always experiment and try different things that I’m drawn to, but my uniform serves as a home base, a reliable starting point I can always return to when I'm feeling uninspired, overwhelmed or simply unsure of what to wear. There's something comforting about knowing exactly what works for you.

If you're a minimalist dresser, one of the most coveted luxury labels is, of course, The Row. Season after season, the brand proves that you don't have to reinvent the wheel to dress well. And for its latest collection, that understated approach remains, but this time with a noticeably more opulent twist.

When our team first saw the summer 2026 imagery following its camera-free Paris Fashion Week presentation back in fall 2025, we immediately thought that it felt like The Row's own interpretation of maximalism. This is a Rosie Assoulin dress that I wore in Spain. The black structured bodice against that gold organza skirt—it’s just such a moment. I love that it manages to feel both dramatic and elegant at the same time. If you are going to commit to a statement gown for a wedding, this is exactly the kind of thing I would reach for.

We may be barely halfway through summer 2026, but Jacquemus is already shaping what next summer's style will look like. The designer famously stages his runway shows in striking locations, and this time was no different on the French island of Corsica. Titled Le Bonheur—French for happiness—the collection explored the simple pleasures of the seaside: the feeling of the breeze wafting through your clothes or the juiciness of ripe fruit.

The show brought out plenty of familiar faces including Kiernan Shipka, Sienna Spiro, and Alexandra Leclerc, the latter of whom arrived in a turquoise dress that also appeared on the runway just moment later, cementing that the It color will remain just as relevant this time next year, too. Actually, several key 2027 trends appeared throughout the collection, indicating where style will be heading next year, like the specific way everyone will be styling skirts—i.e., with a coordinating bra top to make an effortlessly elegant warm-weather outfit.

Skirt Sets

The Jacquemus show just declared the number one way that the fashion crowd will be styling their skirts come next spring and summer: via matching sets that feature a midi skirt with a coordinating bra top. Sorry, sandals, but according to this runway, ballet flats may be the only shoes you need to have for a strong vacation wardrobe. Pretty ruched flats accompanied every look that the designer sent out, from glam sequined dresses to sheer looks, cementing them as the shoe of the summer.

This month, Rebecca decodes the obscure footwear trends presented at Menswear Paris Fashion Week spring/summer 2027. From Saint Laurent's viral transparent-plastic pointed dress shoes to Nike's new hybrid sneakers, there's a lot to unpack. So let's get into it.

Menswear Paris Fashion Week spring/summer 2027 has just wrapped up, and the biggest takeaway—the thing everyone is talking about—is the footwear presented. From Saint Laurent's clear dress shoes to Setchu's high-heeled Geta clogs and Jaden Smith's sophomore collection at Christian Louboutin, menswear has finally caught the memo that freaky footwear is on the fashion agenda, and I, for one, love to see it.

Starting with the most major of all: Anthony Vaccarello's Saint Laurent show. Here are four words I never thought I'd write consecutively: clear-polyurethane pointed brogues. They're available in a few colourways, from deep glossy burgundy to olive green and smokey black. Some feature snakeskin details, but all have the same ultra-pointed, elongated toe that we've seen in the women's collections for a few seasons, which many critics and commentators have likened to the poulaine styles worn in the 14th and 15th centuries.

There was also a slightly more traditional iteration in Chelsea-boot form (because Vaccarello likes to cater to everyone, obvs!). The most subversive detail of this footwear collection, though, was not so much a feature of the shoes, but each model's foot—in that they were all laid bare below the PVC upper. And without socks! Just five free-range piggies squished inside each shoe in 35+ degree heat.

This collection debut comes just a month or so after Chanel's viral soleless sandals effectively announced the "naked shoe" as the new "naked dress." Is this Saint Laurent's more wearable (?) answer to this trend? Is this menswear finally catching on? Either way, the dogs are barking, but so am I.

The fabulously freaky, wonderfully weird shoes didn't stop with Saint Laurent's transparent lace-ups. Christian Louboutin's collection (the second designed by Jaden Smith) showcased a red "shoe" (if you can call it that) that more evoked a monstrous paw than a traditional sneaker, boot or slip-on. Smith also took the dress shoe to new heights—or rather lengths—introducing an Oxford lace-up with a long front, blocky square toe and toe-like mouldings on the top.

Nike presented several new models for the coming spring season, embracing more hybrids that made "sneakerinas" and "snoafers" look relatively old hat. The Air Force 1 received a makeover featuring a square toe, a plaid print and a version in tan suede with turquoise embellishments that could probably have persuaded John Wayne to hang up his cowboy boots.

Finally, special mention must be made of Setchu, which dressed male models in its traditional Japanese Geta clogs, but instead of their usual flat platform, they had an angular "high heel" sole. Men in heels? Yes, please!
