How I came about finding spring's prettiest shoe color is random, but it involves one of my favorite flowers and shoe brands. Last weekend, I stepped outside and observed that cherry blossom season seemed to have started in full force overnight. The fluffy, pink flowers don't bloom for long, but when they do, it's hard to forget about them until they bloom again the next spring.

As one does when something's on their mind, I googled cherry blossom when I was back to being glued to my computer on Monday, and my search somehow led me to shoes (which wasn't the first time, if I'm being honest). Specifically, it led me to a pair of perfect spring shoes by Loeffler Randall (one of my favorite shoe brands) in the prettiest spring color—you guessed it, Cherry Blossom.

At Simply Chic, there's less digging and more debating on what to buy.

This was the first vintage shop I bookmarked when I moved here eight years ago, and it's still a favorite. The shop is huge and packed to the brim with great vintage denim, tees, cocktail dresses, and accessories. I have scored a handful of awesome basic tees by Vince and Rag & Bone and found a perfect pair of Levi's.

No | Mission District

I love this place for its thoughtful curation. It's refreshingly small and organized so not overwhelming. I love that it feels highly curated, so it's much easier to find a few treasures to bring home. I love the vintage jewelry and always end up buying a couple of fun silk pieces and denim.

Now that we've reached the tail end of summer, the time is approaching to retire our sandals and break out our collection of boots and booties. But first things first, we need to take stock of what we have and what we need for fall. On our must-have list: a trendy pair of velvet booties, or maybe something retro-inspired.

But, as excited as we may be to pick up a little something new, the start of a fresh season also means it's time to re-evaluate our past purchases. As one trend comes in, another goes out, which means it's time for a little spring (er, fall) cleaning. 

So we enlisted the help of Sara Gaspar, a data analyst for WGSN, to look into ankle boot trends over the past few months and compare them to last year. The results: There are plenty of block-heel boots to shop this season, while wedges have taken a decline. Sara also noted that styles like tasseled and velvet are spiking this year, so there's no better time than now to pick them up.

When it comes to what's out for fall, the wedge has taken a back seat to other styles. It's share of the market decreased from 11% to 8% since last year.

A major trend this year is block-heel booties, which are currently 31% of the market, compared with last year's 16%.

We know what you're thinking—that $920 for a T-shirt is ridiculously expensive (because, well, it is). We were shocked too, until we found out that the designer behind this graphic tee is none other than Vetements. (If you're not familiar with the brand, stop and read this to get the full 411 on the label that has made quite an alternative mark on the fashion industry as of late.) Whether you agree with the price tag or not, the fact that this tee is inherently cool is nonnegotiable.

Every fashion girl has a favourite perfume! I usually gravitate toward more-masculine scents.

We all need that perfect cosy trench coat for travel. In my opinion, a longer version is better because there are multiple ways to style it.

We need a go-to third piece like a cashmere sweater, cape, or slouchy blazer for cold days in the office, studio, or aeroplane.

Personally, I love mine for days when I just look exhausted! I stock up on different frame options for diversity.

Nice but functional luggage is important because we spend a lot of time travelling. Luggage that's physically attractive is great, but more importantly, it needs to function properly.

If you have to choose between a pair that's slightly snug or slightly loose, go with loose; you can always pad them, but hoping they will stretch out usually ends in disappointment.

Every heel doesn't need to be 4-plus inches tall. I love a kitten heel, and they're almost like wearing flats; they don't put as much pressure on the ball of your foot, which is often the source of discomfort.

Ah, every woman's constant plea: that she may own and wear a pair of high heels that don't absolutely murder her feet and make her life miserable. We've done our best to help provide you with tips to wearing high heels without pain, but sometimes an expert must be brought in.

We asked our resident stylist Marissa Webb to share her pro tips for making heels as comfortable as they can be, and she had some dynamite wisdom to disperse. 

"Your favourite heels might look great, but if you can't walk in them, it really takes all the fun and beauty out of them," Webb astutely observes. "Some tricks I've learned over time have saved me on countless occasions."

If you have to choose between a pair that's slightly snug or slightly loose, go with loose; you can always pad them, but hoping they will stretch out usually ends in disappointment.

Every heel doesn't need to be 4-plus inches tall. I love a kitten heel, and they're almost like wearing flats; they don't put as much pressure on the ball of your foot, which is often the source of discomfort.

Always think of opposites and contrast–an outfit usually looks more interesting with items that fall under different categories. Think long with short, dressy with casual, soft with hard, and masculine with feminine. This could be as simple as wearing a nicely tailored, straightforward suit and popping on a pair of dramatic chandelier earrings.

Know the proportions that work for you. Wearing heavy, slouchy layers on top? Style them over something slim on the bottom. If you're going slouchy and baggy on the bottom, pair it with something slim on top.

Have your third piece ready. New York City girls know you always need a third piece, even if it's 100 degrees out; once you walk into the office, you’re going to be freezing.

You should know when to go bold or go neutral with your makeup. My formula is one of opposites: If I’m wearing something bright and bold, I play down my makeup, and if I’m wearing neutral colors and need a pop, I’ll add a punched-up lip or eye.

Lastly, all New York girls know: when you're not sure what to wear and you're out of time, you can always rely on black or white.

To pinpoint exactly what we mean, we enlisted celeb stylists Jen Rade and Alex Sweterlitsch to give their expert tips on exactly what to wear for humid weather.

"Stick to shapes that fall away from the body. The less fabric touching your skin, the cooler you'll feel," Sweterlitsch said. 

"Avoid synthetic fabrics at all costs; they'll cling and stick and make you miserable," Sweterlitsch said.

"I say this as a girl who wears black almost daily, but it really helps to avoid dark colours when it's blazing-hot outside. Think like the Navy and invest in some 'summer whites.' A nice white fit-and-flare dress with colourful ballet flats or sandals is cute for work or a weekend afternoon. Prints are also great at hiding sweat marks," Rade said.

"It matters what shoes you choose—heat escapes through our heads and our feet, so opt for canvas shoes if you have to wear closed-toe. Otherwise, wear chic sandals as much as possible," Sweterlitsch said.

"Dresses and tops with cutouts are not only fun but they have built-in ventilation," Rade said. 

"Avoid tight jeans! Try lightweight denim in looser shapes like boyfriend or wide-leg to keep cool," Rade said. 

"Sports bras are great for wicking moisture from the skin, and bras can be SO hot and irritating in the summer. Plus a cute, colourful one can be layered under a linen blouse or a chambray shirt," Rade said.
