Living in New York City, I quickly learned that there's a set of go-to relaxing weekend trips within a certain distance—the places New Yorkers head to escape the city for a change of pace. Of course, we all know the Hamptons, and Hudson or Beacon upstate; they're common knowledge. Even the Poconos in Pennsylvania, or Nantucket, Martha's Vineyard, the Cape, or the Berkshires in Massachusetts. But when I first moved here years ago, I hadn't yet heard of the under-the-radar destinations on the North Fork of Long Island.

While the Hamptons are on the South Fork, made up of East Hampton and part of Southampton, the North Fork is a 30-mile-long peninsula with a collection of quaint towns, including the charming seaside village of Greenport. With influencers flocking to Surf Lodge in Montauk, the North Fork is almost like the sleepier, underrated alternative.

Greenport's Chicest Hotel

As I planned my trip, I knew there was one place I wanted to stay: The Sound View. The waterfront hotel has a private beach, which was my very first stop after checking in and dropping off my bags. I've never been to the French Riviera (though it's high on my list), but I imagined this is what it feels like—an intimate, blissful pebble beach. I fell asleep quickly to the sound of the waves, waking up completely relaxed.

The property has everything you need on-site: a pool, a restaurant and bar, complimentary bikes, and a thoughtfully curated gift shop with things like Only Hearts pajamas, Flamingo Estate candles, and Garrett Leight sunglasses.

From the hotel, it's a short drive into a very walkable downtown area with a cluster of shops and restaurants all within one square mile, as well as the lovely 67 Steps Beach. Whether you want a trip of total downtime spent entirely at the hotel without having to leave at all or prefer to bop around, you can do either.

To get there, I took the Hampton Jitney from Midtown, which took less than three hours, but you could also take the Long Island Rail Road or drive. I went without a car and got around just fine using Ubers.

Dining in Greenport

My favorite meal of the trip was dinner at The Halyard, the hotel's restaurant. I got the chicken and trout, and both were incredible. I also loved the chocolate cake and cookies for dessert. Between The Halyard (which recently added a brunch on Saturdays and Sundays), poolside options at Jack's Shack, and room service, you could easily spend your entire trip eating there.

If you do want to venture out, for breakfast and lunch, there's Pip’s Café & Provisions, Nookies, and Bruce & Son. For dinner, Noah’s, Ellen’s on Front, 1943 Pizza Bar, or American Beech. If you love raw bars, Little Creek Oyster Farm & Market is really popular, Ralph’s Famous Italian Ices of Greenport has my favorite ice cream, and the Greenport Farmers Market is on Saturdays.

In the neighboring towns, I'd recommend North Fork Table & Inn, which also runs a weekend food truck that has smash burgers and lobster rolls, as well as Southold Social for farm-to-table dining. For casual, fresh seafood, go to Braun Seafood Co. and Southold Fish Market. Other noteworthy options include North Fork Roasting Co., Country Corner Cafe, and Little Fish.

For a day trip, you can also easily take the ferry to Shelter Island. Get breakfast at Stars Cafe, or relax in an Adirondack chair with a gorgeous view at The Pridwin hotel and eat at its restaurant called The Terrace. Across the street, it's quite the scene at the bar at Sunset Beach Hotel in front of Crescent Beach. And Marie Eiffel Market is a French-inspired café, bakery, and market where you can grab snacks for the beach or eat-in on the dockside.

Greenport Packing Tips

In theory, a two-night trip doesn't require much packing, but I somehow always manage to overpack. If I had to whittle my suitcase down to just a few things for a weekend beach getaway, I'd choose my Cou Cou Intimates dresses. For swimwear, I've been loving my jewel-toned green Baserange one-piece paired with a Fella Swim sarong. Los Angeles Apparel jelly flats were my go-to shoes since they're easy to wear both on and off the beach, and I always make sure I bring a claw clip to put by hair up and a hat for shade.

As for bags, my nylon one from the Parisian brand Kabas makes the perfect summer tote since it's waterproof. In the evening, I wore my baguette bag from the Los Angeles label Are Studio. And although I have a large collection of sunglasses, I only brought one pair this trip: my sold-out, oversize Giada frames from Chimi.

For beauty, I packed my Leatherology croc-effect travel case with Sofie Pavitt cleanser and gel moisturizer, EltaMD face sunscreen, Vacation body sunscreen, Ciele tinted serum foundation, a Kate McLeod mini body stone, and Rōz leave-in conditioner and hair oil. For my lip combo, I brought the cult-favorite MAC Whirl lip liner and Crème in Your Coffee lipstick.

Micaela Erlanger always knew deep down that she wanted to be a stylist. "I think I always knew I wanted to be in a creative field, and in my core being, I always knew I wanted to be a stylist, but I didn't know that the world of styling existed at the time," Erlanger said. She got her start working on the editorial side at publications such as Harper's Bazaar before taking the leap into styling. Can you give our audience a top-level background on how you first found your way into fashion and styling?

I think I always knew I wanted to be in a creative field, and in my core being, I always knew I wanted to be a stylist, but I didn't know that the world of styling existed at the time. It was through a series of internships in college, really, where I discovered the world of editorial.

I got my start as an intern at various publications. I was in the Condé Nast summer intern program and then worked at Hearst for a bunch of magazines. [I] really learned the ropes there, working as an intern in the fashion closet and, ultimately, working as a freelance fashion assistant to the fashion directors at Harper's, at Cosmo, et cetera. That's really where I cut my teeth on all things styling.

It was later on where I met my mentor Annabel Tollman, who I worked with for just over six years. At the time, she was really pioneering the celebrity-styling space. I learned so much from her, and that's really what set me forth on this path.

One of the things that has been such a joy to watch from afar is your relationship with Lupita Nyong'o, going all the way back to her campaign that led to the Oscar for 12 Years a Slave in 2014 and that perfect powder-blue Prada gown. Now, 12 years after that momentous look, you are back on another press tour with her for The Odyssey. Obviously, she, like many of your clients, is very long-term. I'm curious about your relationship and the styling choices that you make together and how they have evolved over the years.

I'm so grateful for this relationship, and I'm so lucky that I can count my client also as a dear friend. Our collaboration is really rooted in this deep trust and mutual respect for one another.

That first year out the gate was momentous for every reason. Not only did her talent earn her the Academy Award, but the choices that we made, I think, also reflected how important image is and how the red carpet can really catapult somebody … and what brand positioning looks like—why choosing a dress is important and intentional and strategic. After that year, we really found our groove. Fast-forward, this is 12 years later. It's insane to think about. We're on this new, massive, momentous press tour with an extraordinary cast, and we really got to play.

Talk to me about the very first look for the very first press day. How did you land on that look to kick things off?

That was actually a look that I had custom-made that I had been hanging on to for quite some time. It was Sally LaPointe. I didn't know where it was going to go and where it might fit into this tour.

Oftentimes, I see something, and I'm like, "Yep, that's the look. I know it's going to work out. [I] don't know where it's going, but just have faith and give me a little bit of time and watch it land." It's awesome when that happens, when the right look winds up in the right location for the right photographed moment. This felt like the perfect look to kick off the tour with. I always think the first outfit that's photographed also sets the tone and the narrative for the visual story that you're going to tell, and I loved everything about this.

I also want to talk about Nyong'o's New York premiere look—down to the bag. How did you think through New York, and what was the strategy behind it?

We tried this gown on, and it was spectacular. I worked with Nicholas Oakwell many years ago when he first launched his couture house, and I'm so happy that he's back in action making the most exquisite work.

It was interesting. The inspiration of the dress was actually written in the lookbook, and it, too, tied back to mythology and story. That just felt like it was meant to be. But you never know until you get something into the studio and until you try it on and you see how it fits.

Once the pressure of choosing a wedding dress has been alleviated, don’t think brides are in the clear in knowing what they’ll wear down the aisle. (Or, at their receptions and after parties, for that matter.) As the current bridal accessories trends indicate, the sartorial accoutrements you don for your nuptials need to be considered as the gown itself. Playing a supporting, if not even starring, role in your bridal look, what was once a secondary decision has now become a significant one, given how specific pieces can alter your overall ensemble.

Once upon a time, options were fairly limited, and all you had to do was select from a few accessories before arriving at the altar. Would your veil be long or short? Would your jewellery be classic or contemporary? Would your shoes be flat or heeled? The answers to these rudimentary questions would dictate your finishing touches for the big day.

But with the advent of a more trend-forward market and the rise of bespoke wedding dresses that suit your personal style, of course, more individualised accessories would come to the fore.

You only need to look at the most prolific newlyweds to prove this point. From Gabriette’s custom Matières Fécales top hat to Charli XCX’s bratty sunglasses, those with impeccable taste know that the best bridal looks are those that have been thought through from top to toe. 1. Wide-Brim Hats

Style Notes: Dua Lipa’s wedding to Callum Turner delivered a pantheon of iconic looks to covet. From her vintage scintillating Versace mini dress from the autumn/winter 1995 show, which Kate Moss wore down the runway with a pair of go-go boots and a cropped veil, to being the first bride to wear a Chanel wedding dress during Matthieu Blazy’s tenure at the helm of the French maison, every look was a spectacle in and of itself.

However, it was the Schiaparelli set that she wore to her civil ceremony in Marylebone Town Hall that proved to be the most memorable. Taking cues from the two-piece skirt suit that Bianca Jagger wore to wed The Rolling Stones frontman Mick Jagger in Saint-Tropez in 1971, she lent into the effortless tailoring and chic daytime setting of the nuptials by reviving the wide-brimmed hat. In lieu of a veil, the songstress showcased that millinery can be just as powerful as a sheath of wispy fabric, and doesn’t contain any of the archaic modesty connotations.

2. Neck Scarves

Style Notes: Spotted on Grace Kelly in Alfred Hitchcock’s To Catch a Thief and on Princess Diana at the Cannes Film Festival in 1987, neck scarves have always been imbued with an Old Hollywood glamour that’s made them such a timeless fixture. Of course, the reason for its inclusion in this edit is in the name itself, given it will make any silhouette all the more opulent when added.

Still, there is a more subliminal reason for wearing one, which is that the very act of layering it on will create the illusion of two separate wedding dresses. When removed, it almost feels like you have another moment to let the dress shine, when all you’ve done is make the mindful choice to take the accessory off.

3. Lace Gloves

Style Notes: Some of the more alternative brides are biting their thumbs at tradition and subverting the age-old convention of wearing gloves on their wedding days by opting for a more sensual style. I would hazard a guess that, as you are reading this, you are parked, perched or plonked comfortably in a chair. What kind of chair is irrelevant. The point is that you are sitting in one. Finally, in the 19th century, they became mass-produced and commonplace.

Like that apex of chairs, the throne, they have always been considered status items, and as such, over the years, they have been reimagined by some of the greatest creative minds of the past three centuries. 1. Britannic Domesticity

Style Notes: The Bridgewater Chair by Howard and Sons is for lovers of what I often see referred to as "cottagecore". Now, I am not one for acronyms, mainly because half the time I don’t know what any of them mean—and frankly, I am now too embarrassed to ask—but I believe I am using this one correctly when I say this chair is the G.O.A.T. (Which, for the uninitiated like me, means The Greatest Of All Time.)

In my opinion, it is the blueprint from which all of our favourite armchairs have been copied, and for good reason. It is the last word in comfort and the first word in that quintessential English-country-house aesthetic that never seems to go out of style. They are frighteningly expensive, and even antique pieces that come up for auction—often damaged and unloved—end up going for a small fortune. The reason being that when it comes to furniture, these pieces are truly an investment. A good armchair is a purchase for life, the bones of which can be reupholstered to fit changing tastes in fabric, and can be used and enjoyed in any room, by anyone, of any age. The Bridgewater looks best when well-loved, but it needs to be upholstered properly, so if you end up buying an antique, make sure you are willing to give it the restoration it deserves.

2. Adriatic Opulence

Style Notes: I have spoken ad nauseum about Venetian Grotto Chairs. In my opinion, they are truly the holy grail of interior design and the tiara worn by any maximalist home. They are whimsical, highly impractical and appeal to the Disney Princess in all of us. Popularised in the 19th century by European nobles who had nothing better to do than collect beautiful things, their design was originally inspired by the shell grottos created by the nobility to escape the summer heat during the Renaissance. Like all the most beautiful things, they are purely decorative, which means that actually sitting on them is out of the question.

Now, before you jump down my throat with indignant shouts of "What's the point of a chair you can’t sit on?", I hear you. But I promise their showstopping good looks more than make up for their somewhat limited use. On the rare occasion that one comes up for auction, there is always a flurry of activity in the saleroom as eagle-eyed shoppers flock to the "bid" button, despite their impractical nature. So, when parked next to a fireplace, in front of a large window or perhaps with a few choice coffee-table books or a geranium placed on the seat to warn the uninitiated not to sit down, they provide a wow factor that few other pieces of furniture possess.

3. Bauhaus Baby

Style Notes: If you have an eye for fuss-free design, you are in the right place. At the other end of the spectrum from the Venetian Grotto Chair sits the Wassily Chair by Marcel Breuer. Contrary to popular belief, this chair was not designed specifically for Russian painter Wassily Kandinsky, but instead inspired by the construction of a bicycle. First produced in the late 1920s, the Wassily, as it later became known, was revolutionary in its blend of form and function and embodied all the elements of what became known as the Bauhaus movement.

Central to the movement's core beliefs was the idea that "form follows function" (in layman's terms, no frills), and each product was designed to be mass-produced, rather than in short supply for strictly wealthy individuals. Followers of the Bauhaus movement believed in the democratisation of the arts, and that truly beautiful design came from simplicity. Whilst usually I argue the opposite, that we all need a little magic in our lives, the Wassily Chair is my favourite piece of contemporary furniture. Personally, I find the best rooms are multilayered with inter-period play. There is nothing that dates a room more than focusing too heavily on one decorative style or period. I love to see this chair in a classic sitting room in front of a fire, next to a Howard and Sons armchair with an antique side table in between them, or in front of a Georgian secretary desk as an office chair.

4. Nordic Simplicity

Style Notes: Let's get hygge with it! Mid-century Scandi design is full of elegant simplicity, and if that floats your handcrafted wooden boat, I would like to draw your attention to the Wishbone Chair. It is Hans Wegner's best-selling design and has been in continuous production since its inception in 1949. Wegner is one of the pioneers of what we now call mid-century Danish design, whose focus is on organic functionality, whatever that means. (I jest, I know what it means… I think.)

Inspired by antique Chinese chairs from the Ming dynasty, the design has been copied into oblivion, but the original is still the best. People are always surprised when I suggest these chairs for a project, as my aesthetics do not exactly scream Scandi, but I love them as dining room chairs, especially in a bold colour. (Go for red!). I find that they are particularly effective around a "farmhouse" style table, as their inherently modern design can keep the room from tipping too far into country-cottage territory, unless, of course, that’s the goal. They also have the benefit of being comfortable, which, as you settle into hour four of a long Sunday lunch, is a real plus!

5. Modern Bloom

Style Notes: If you dream of the universe but don't fancy sharing a rocket with Lauren Sanchez, then perhaps you should lean into the "space age" aesthetic that was hugely popular from the '50s through to the '70s. Designed in 1956 by Finnish-American architect and industrial designer Eero Saarinen, the Tulip Chair revolutionised modern furniture design. When asked about the inspiration behind it, Saarinen gave perhaps one of my favourite answers in the history of interior design. He said he "wanted to get rid of the slum of legs under the table", which is a phrase I am not sure even Nicky Haslam could get away with these days.

Jokes aside, the Tulip Chair was the first of its kind and is one of the pinnacles of the "space age" design movement, which to this day features in films set in galaxies far, far away. The single leg allows light to bounce around under a table, which helps lift an area of the room that is otherwise a bit dark and gloomy. These chairs—which by their very nature are alarmingly modern and somewhat cold, like I imagine space to be— work best when they are softened slightly by being placed on a rug made of natural fibres; ideally one with a very thick pile, or made of some sort of faux hide.

Shop More Chic Armchairs

I'll be the first to admit that I have high standards when it comes to black-tie wedding guest dresses. The dress code calls for something elevated, but that doesn't mean you have to sacrifice personality—especially during the summer months, when I'm all about color.

After years of covering fashion and attending my fair share of events, I've learned that the best wedding guest dresses strike a very specific balance: They should be special enough for the occasion while still feeling like you. One thing I really wanted to cover today is your work with Lexi Minetree because she is playing young Elle Woods in the new Legally Blonde prequel, Elle. How did you and Lexi get connected, and why do you think that you work so well with these rising stars who are such powerhouses?

She, I think, took meetings with a few stylists. I had a Zoom meeting with her probably like three months ago. I feel like the initial meeting with a client is more about personalities and how well your energies mesh. At this point in my career now, my one big thing is I only want to work with nice people, and Lexi is literally the biggest sweetheart. Our Zoom was an hour and a half, which is really, really long for an initial interview. We were talking about boys, and it was just… It was like two girlfriends catching up. I think we literally talked about fashion for maybe five to 10 minutes.

We are seeing them at their most vulnerable. They're coming to my office, and they're literally stripping down naked, and we're dressing them. There's nothing more vulnerable or intimate than that, so a huge part of my job is making them feel comfortable, and also, every female has their own insecurities. Then you have a conversation like, "Okay, do you not want to show your legs? Do you not want to wear short skirts?" It's just finding the things that will make them feel their best because that's going to translate to the red carpet. When they're feeling hot and confident, those photos on Getty and the red carpet are going to be way better.

You wrote a story for us about the eight wardrobe basics you and your clients spend your own money on, and the recommendations are fantastic. Inspired by that, I would love to do a little bit of a travel rapid-fire. Favorite sneakers if you're going to be on your feet all day, running around airports, traveling, sightseeing, etc.?

I have two. Salomon sneakers, I love. They're my everyday go-to shoes. If I know it's going to be a really, really, really long set day or I'm working out, it's going to be Hokas.

Best cozy socks for airplanes?

Barefoot Dreams, their socks and their bathrobes. I would literally show up to a fitting in a Barefoot Dreams bathrobe. They are the coziest things.

Best seamless underwear, because no one wants to have itchy underwear?

Commando.

What's your travel uniform these days? What are you wearing right now when you travel?

I'm only wearing sweatpants. I flew in last night to L.A. I wore my dad's sweatshirt, my ex-boyfriend's T-shirt, sweatpants, and my Hokas, and I looked like a hot mess. But you know what? I was very comfortable.

Do you have favorite sweats?

I like the Skims ones, and I like the ones that have pockets. I need pockets in my sweatpants.

There was a time, not even a generation ago, when the post-wedding getaway had a predictable formula: check into a beach resort (usually Caribbean, usually all-inclusive), order a couple of frozen cocktails to your lounger, and spend a week doing absolutely nothing. That kind of trip will never truly lose its appeal, but it’s simply no longer the default. Instead, today's newlyweds are treating their honeymoon as its own main event, one that, more often than not, requires the same level of scrutiny, research, and financial investment as the ceremony itself.

In 2026, we've entered the era of the high-stakes honeymoon: an elaborate, increasingly ambitious, and highly-customized journey where traveling purely to unwind is more of an afterthought than the primary directive. It’s no longer just a vacation. Post-wedding travel has transformed into one of the most visible markers of status for a new couple, who are more likely to spring for the five-star design-driven hotel, remote wilderness trek and chartered transfers than they are for the standard air-and-hotel package. "After the pandemic, people began placing much more value on experiences over material purchases, and lucky for us travel agents, honeymoons naturally became part of that trend," Wallach says. Malik agrees, noting that travel has become "more intentional and experience-driven as a whole" in the years since.

Then, of course, there's the role that social media has played. Couples are exposed to remote safari camps, overwater villas, and viral hotel suites in the course of a normal scroll, which, consciously or not, expands their horizons beyond what their parents or family members may have done for theirs. "It's made couples more informed than ever before," Wallach explains, adding that many clients now arrive with a fully researched wish list rather than a blank slate. There's also an emotional through line: after months (sometimes years) of meticulous wedding planning, couples want their honeymoon to carry the same weight. As Malik puts it, they're determined to make it just as special as the wedding day itself.

What unites all of these destinations is a craving for unmatched exclusivity and deep cultural immersion. "Couples want destinations and hotels that feel truly unique and memorable," Wallach says. Today's travelers want to balance absolute relaxation with high-adrenaline, unforgettable stories, from helicoptering over Victoria Falls to white-water rafting in New Zealand and glamping in Ubud. Ultimately, the modern honeymoon is less about checking into a hotel and more about curating a private collection of memories that will be talked about for decades to follow.

"Beyond candles, we're incorporating concealed architectural lighting, custom fixtures, pools of light that guide movement, and candle installations that create warmth without overwhelming the room," she adds. An example of this crossover is seen in cakes. "Wedding cakes are becoming an extension of the bride's fashion, borrowing details directly from the gown to create a cohesive design story," Victoria and Amanda say. "We are seeing more edible ruffles, pleats, draping, lace, bows, and unexpected silhouettes that turn cakes into couture-inspired statement pieces." Beyond confections, fashion is influencing décor, with feathers and fringe detailing everything from lampshades and menus to table linens, adding dynamic movement and visual interest. Lace is also dominating in design as we move away from minimalism and into more romantic styles, Charlotte Forsyth-Wastell, cofounder of Hands London, notes.

Yassin notes that these details provide clarity and contrast following years dominated by heavy textures, warm neutrals, and antique brass. "They bring a distinctly modern edge without feeling cold," she explains, pointing to options like silver candelabras and serving trays. Yassin also attributes this movement to a rising appreciation for true craftsmanship, as couples look to invest in unique, artisan-made details rather than standard options from a rental catalog. For Victoria and Amanda, clients are eager to integrate these elements because their reflective surfaces interact beautifully with lighting, enhancing the surrounding décor. This widespread interest in them is no surprise given that the trend effortlessly complements both minimalist and maximalist aesthetics, they note.

Food has evolved beyond something we simply eat—it has become entertainment, celebration, and connection all at once. While social media may have fueled this shift because of its visual appeal, the trend isn't dying down. "Watching food being prepared, smelling the fire, or interacting with the people cooking creates a far more sensory memory than a conventional service," Agramunt and Rodrigo say. One of the most popular examples at weddings is through dessert. Rather than serving a finished tiramisu or Italian mille-feuille, weddings will now invite the newlyweds to add the final dusting of cocoa powder or the layer of fresh berries together in front of their guests. "It's both theatrical and fun," says Pip O'Shea, founder of Good Good Cakes. "It also adds a visual and a tactile element—they and their guests are involved in a part of the night that usually happens behind the scenes." And of course, it allows couples to express their personalities while creating authentic, joyful photographs and videos.

As couples look to prioritize connection, the dining table will become one of the most meaningful spaces of celebration. "Food will no longer simply be served on a table; the table itself will become part of the gastronomic experience," Agramunt and Rodrigo say. This type of connection between guests will also occur at buffet stations during weddings. Sofie Thompson, cofounder of Hands London, says that buffets are making a comeback. "People are less inclined now to do a three-course sit-down meal," she notes. "They want an experience that isn’t similar to a restaurant style of service."

As for the type of food, couples will gravitate toward seasonal ingredients and menus. "We'll see a stronger focus on seasonal, locally sourced ingredients presented with honesty," Agramunt and Rodrigo share. Tombs agrees, adding that the most memorable menus will be those that authentically reflect the couple and the type of food they love to connect over.

Every relationship has its own origin story. Some couples meet at busy bars, others through mutual friends, and many nowadays on dating apps. For Jordan Goldberg, fashion editor and consultant, and Adam Rossman, a manager at KPMG, it began over test tubes and textbooks in a chemistry class at the University of Texas at Austin.

"We formed a study group with a few other people and became fast friends," Goldberg says. "We were 'studying' almost every single day, which was honestly way too much effort for a low-level science class, but we were just having so much fun." Before long, study sessions turned into dinner plans and concerts, but Goldberg insists their relationship was "purely platonic" in the beginning.

However, everything changed when Goldberg invited Rossman to JMBLYA, a music festival in Austin. "He kissed me right in the middle of the set," she recalls. "I was so caught off guard that I actually asked him why he kissed me." Rossman, on the other hand, had viewed the concert as a proper date. "Since it was just the two of us, I decided to make a move," he explains. "It wasn't planned out at all, but it just felt right in the moment." Their chemistry was undeniable, marking a point of no return for the pair as their friendship was transformed forever. "There was this unspoken conversation where we both just knew this was it," Goldberg reflects.

After graduating, the couple moved to New York City, where their relationship deepened as they navigated new careers and adulthood. Three years later, they moved into a one-bedroom on Astor Place together, and conversations about marriage naturally followed. They envisioned getting engaged in 2025, but Rossman had other plans.

On a snowy weekend in November 2024, the two took a trip to the Sagamore Resort in Lake George. "We drove up on a Friday morning in his parents' car, and Adam was so calm the whole car ride," Goldberg says. "He even plugged his phone into CarPlay, which, looking back, feels very risky [since his text messages could show up on the screen]!" After settling into their hotel room, the couple walked to a lookout spot where Rossman proposed. "I was in complete shock," Goldberg says. "Luckily, he hired a photographer so we could relive it over again because I didn't remember if he got down on one knee." The celebration continued back in NYC with family and friends.

Jordan Goldberg: "Our welcome dinner was at Stubb's BBQ, a famous concert venue in Austin. The attire was 'Western chic,' allowing our guests to lean into the Texas feel. And they showed up! They wore bolo ties, cowboy hats, lots of fringe, and denim on denim. We loved it! They arrived around 6:30 p.m. and were greeted with buckets of beers, wildflowers on every table, and a country band playing classic songs (George Strait, Luke Bryan, the works!)."

JG: "I wore a fringe dress from Bevza's resort 2026 collection. The second I saw it on Moda Operandi, I knew it’d be perfect for our Western-themed Friday night. I wanted something that felt like a modern take on country attire. The incredible corsetry and woven detailing made the gown feel contemporary, while the fringe added a Western touch. Alongside the dress, I wore my hair up in a French twist, secured with my mom's wedding barrette. I accessorized with Schutz heels, Dorsey earrings, and an aquamarine cocktail ring from Adam’s late grandmother."

JG: "Adam wore boots and a white button-down shirt from Tecovas, light blue Rag & Bone jeans, and a custom cowboy hat."

JG: "After everyone sat down for dinner, we had four speeches: My best friend Molly; three of Adam’s childhood friends; Adam’s best man and older brother, Evan; and finally my sister Natalie. The speeches were absolutely incredible. They all talked about the evolution of our relationship over the past nine years and how much we’ve grown together."

JG: "The biggest surprise of the evening was that my sister, Natalie, performed alongside my dad, Joel. He played guitar while Natalie sang 'Perfect' by Ed Sheeran. We had been begging my dad to perform at our wedding, but he always told us no because he’d be too nervous. Little did we know they had been practicing for a year. They absolutely killed it, and all of our guests sang along to the chorus. True magic!"

JG: "Our wedding day started at 7 a.m. We had a beautiful hotel room at the Line Hotel with floor-to-ceiling windows, and the sunrise came right in. I opened my eyes to Adam finishing up his vows. We ordered room service, grabbed the tissues, and read our vows to each other. We’re both so grateful we did them privately so we could fully express ourselves without worrying about an audience. We didn’t record this moment; it was just us, and it’s something we’ll both cherish forever."

WWW Weddings Tip: "If the traditions don’t feel right to you, don’t feel like you have to do them. We slept in the same bed the night before the wedding to ease any anxieties. And it really helped both of us. We were calm, got to spend some time together on the wedding day, and didn’t have all of the buildup ahead of time."

JG: "Off the Aisle did our wedding invitations, and we both loved them. We leaned into the colors we were going to feature at the wedding—olives, chartreuse, soft greens—along with lots of texture from embossing. We chose a font that felt timeless, a swirly cursive that was crisp enough to be legible. We loved the way the invitation stacked together so neatly."

JG: "I had four friends, my sister (maid of honor), two cousins, and both Adam's and my mom get ready with me. I wore a blue Fleur du Mal robe with white lace and Carven slippers. I chose the blue robe because I wanted something that felt a bit different from the white I wore for the rest of the weekend while still feeling bridal. The girls wore Skims pj's for the morning—I wanted them to be as comfortable as possible! While some of them were in the beauty chairs, the others played Mahjong, which was a lot of fun. I even mahjed on wedding day, which felt like a good omen!"

JG: "Adam wore a custom Enzo tuxedo for our wedding day. For his birthday this year, I got him a pair of custom cuff links from Rachel G Jewelry—one side has his initials, while the other is a longhorn for the University of Texas. He styled his tuxedo with black alligator cowboy boots from Tecovas."

Adam Rossman: "I wanted to do something that felt different, and cowboy boots felt like the right choice for our Texas wedding. I wore the alligator pair while my dad, my brother, and Jordan’s dad wore coordinating lizard cowboy boots from Tecovas. Our 3-year-old ring bearer even wore cowboy boots with his tuxedo too."

JG: "For beauty, I was honestly really nervous because I typically don't wear much makeup. Luckily, my makeup artist, Hannah Zahner, completely understood my vision. We talked about how I wanted to make sure I looked like myself, and she used lightweight but durable products for my glam. We went for a bronzed, glowy look, using products like EltaMD’s Clear Sunscreen as my base (which I use every day), Saie’s City Set Misting Spray to keep the makeup in place without losing hydration, and Westman Atelier’s Bronzing Stick for a very natural glow. And for the hair, I wanted it to feel very unfussy. We went with messy, undone waves that framed the face organically. I was truly so happy with my glam because I felt like myself. I wasn’t worrying about eyelashes being too heavy or concerned that the lip was too much. Hannah just accentuated my features and made me feel my best. I wore my everyday fragrance for the day, too: Parfum de Marly’s Valaya Exclusif."

JG: "I wore the Devon by Danielle Frankel. I had been to quite a few bridal shops in New York City with my family and honestly was worried I’d never have that feeling. My only priority was to feel comfortable and like myself in my dress. Once I tried on the Devon, it checked both boxes in stride. I loved how effortless I felt in it."

JG: "We chose to do our first look before the ceremony so that we could get all the jitters out beforehand, spend some time together, and have a moment just us before all our guests were there. It was such a special moment for us to connect."

AR: "Before the wedding, Jordan had me draw what I thought her dress would look like. I did my best. I had a feeling it would be strapless, but her dress exceeded my expectations. She looked elegant, beautiful, and like herself. I loved it."

JG: "It [the dress] was lightweight, interesting without losing its timeliness, and flattering. The Danielle Frankel team helped me make some tweaks to it (like removing the train and lowering the back hem) that made me feel my absolute best. I paired the gown with the Pleated Tulle Sacae Veil from Danielle Frankel and heels from Proenza Schouler (aka my go-to brand for comfortable heels)."

WWW Weddings Tip: "Your energy on the wedding day is everything! We had a conversation before the wedding in which we reminded ourselves that the guests would feed off our energy. If we're having the best time, they will too. That was our mantra the whole weekend, and we believe it was key to making it the best weekend for both our guests and us."

JG: "For jewelry, I wore a tennis necklace and diamond studs from Dorsey. I got married in Adam’s grandmother’s wedding band, as Jewish tradition requires a solid metal band for marriage. After our ceremony, though, I swapped it out for my custom gypsy ring, which features an emerald in the center and two diamond baguettes, and a channel-set ring with round diamonds."

JG: "We are both Jewish, so we had a traditional Jewish wedding officiated by a rabbi. Before the ceremony, we signed our ketubah (the Jewish marriage contract)."

JG: "Our florist, Siobhán from Loam Studios, completely understood the vision. We wanted everything to feel super organic, like it could’ve grown at the ceremony space. She used hydrangeas—a special request to pay homage to our summers in the Hamptons—along with calla lilies, ranunculus, and musk roses. She ensured that our aisle felt fluid, not fragmented. She sourced antique pots to put under the wood chuppah, with florals 'growing' out of them. She also used one of the antique pots to create an extra-large floral arrangement for the escort-card table."

JG: "The ceremony began with the seven circles. We got married underneath a chuppah, where tallits from our late grandfathers hung. Adam broke the glass (effortlessly!)."

WWW Weddings Tip: "When it comes to your wedding wardrobe, pick the pieces that make you feel like yourself. While weddings can feel like an opportunity to go outside of the box with style, I felt calm and present because I was so comfortable with my looks. Yes, they were still so special, but I felt like myself and didn’t have to worry about adjusting things throughout the day."

WWW Weddings Tip: "Rank your priorities and refer back to them as often as you can! For us, we prioritized time together, the music, and the people. Whenever we were in doubt, we came back to those three priorities to guide us."

JG: "We hosted a cocktail hour, where guests enjoyed a seafood tower, caviar bumps, and a variety of other hors d'oeuvres and cocktails served on antique silver trays. We snuck away for the first five minutes to take it all in (and get some post-ceremony pictures!)."

JG: "For the reception, we wanted it to feel intimate and moody. We had candles lit for most of the evening. We also chose to use six long rectangular tables arranged around the dance floor to create that dinner-party vibe. Our table arrangements were in low, mismatched chrome vases to ensure that guests could talk to each other across the table."

JG: "Our reception was all about the dancing, which is exactly what we wanted. After both our parents spoke, Drywater Band took the night to the next level. The dance floor was packed all night, and we felt so overwhelmed with love!"

JG: "We did our first dance to 'Thinking Out Loud' by Ed Sheeran, I danced with my dad to 'Sparks' by Coldplay, and Adam danced with his mom to 'My Wish' by Rascal Flatts."

JG: " We did the hora, and Adam was basically in the air the whole night—his friends would not put him down! We never left the dance floor and were surrounded by all of our favorite people the whole night long. It was everything we could've dreamt of and more."

JG: "Right before the cake cutting, I changed into a long-sleeve Toteme dress from the Resort 2026 collection. I'd tried it on at a work photo shoot and instantly knew I needed it. It was so comfortable, and even though I was covered up, I felt so sexy in it."

JG: "We had Raising Cane’s and Caffè Panna passed out for late-night snacks, and my cousin Frasier Lampe, founder of Frasier Sterling, made custom 'Caffe Rossman' hats for everyone."

JG: "We snuck away to cut the St. Honoré cake from Rocheli Patisserie, which was covered in profiteroles to honor Adam's late uncle who passed away last year. When the reception ended, we took party buses to The Marlow for the after-party. DJ Leslie Nava played deep house, we danced under a disco ball, and we had bowls of sour candy everywhere. We finally took a pedicab back to the hotel—it was the perfect end to the night."

If you follow beauty closely and are obsessed with the latest haircare products, Kitsch is likely already on your radar. What began as a single handmade hair tie has grown into one of the most innovative brands in the space. The brand now spans haircare, skincare, and showercare under the leadership of founder and CEO Cassandra Morales Thurswell, who has built Kitsch into the largest self-funded, female-owned beauty brand in the world.

Thurswell's path to Kitsch was anything but linear. As a teenager, she partnered with her mother to open a restaurant and boutique—an early signal of the entrepreneurial instinct that would define her career. What followed was a decade of experimentation: a jewelry brand that brought her to Los Angeles, stints managing a clothing store and a cupcake shop, a spray-tanning company, a scarf brand, and work as a jewelry designer for Forever 21 and Urban Outfitters. Each venture taught her an invaluable lesson about product development, retail, and what consumers actually want.

At 25, with $30,000 in savings and a clear-eyed read on a gap in the market, she founded Kitsch on a simple premise: beautiful, functional hair accessories at an accessible price. The brand found its footing quickly. Kitsch secured shelf space at Ulta and expanded from accessories into a full haircare and beauty offering, and in 2024, it made its largest move yet with a launch at Target. The growth has been entirely self-funded—no outside investors, no venture capital—which makes the scale of what Thurswell has built all the more remarkable.

Love has a way of making even the biggest cities feel impossibly small. When Karoline Spenning, chief creative director of Siegelman Stable, moved from Norway to New York City, she was stepping into the unknown. She had never been to the city before, knew almost no one, and was starting anew. Yet within weeks of arriving, a chance introduction through her coworker-turned-roommate brought Max Siegelman, chief executive director and founder of Siegelman Stable, into her life, and he turned out to be the man she would one day marry.

Their relationship began during the pandemic with long text exchanges that spanned state lines while Siegelman was temporarily living upstate with his family. When he finally returned to the city, he made an impromptu stop at Spenning's apartment. "I rode my bike to the gym and thought I'd stop by Karoline's," Siegelman recalls. "I showed up sweaty because I had just worked out, but honestly, I would've shown up sweaty either way because I was nervous." Spenning thought it was a bold move on Siegelman's part but said, "Sure, come say hi."

For Spenning, that spontaneous visit became an important moment. The two hadn't even been on a first date yet, but for her, the ending was already beginning. "It was love at first sight," she says. "I saw him, and I thought to myself, 'Oh my God, this is my person.' I couldn't sleep. I couldn't eat."

The connection was mutual. Three days later, they had their first official date over coffee in Tompkins Square Park, followed by dinner the next evening in the East Village. From there, they were inseparable. Four months later, they moved into Siegelman's Brooklyn apartment, where they began building not only a life together but also Siegelman Stable, an eponymous fashion label fusing luxury sports fashion with harness racing, which he had launched just months before he met Spenning. What began as a side project quickly became a shared creative pursuit, and the couple grew the business alongside their relationship.

When it came to getting engaged, there was never any question of if—only when. Certain they had found their forever partners, the two took their time before Siegelman enlisted the help of a mutual friend, a jeweler, to source a ring, which turned out to be a vintage cushion-cut diamond that perfectly aligned with Spenning's appreciation for sustainability and heirloom pieces. While the couple never had a formal conversation about a proposal, Spenning had a good feeling that it was around the corner.

Siegelman told Spenning he had booked a house upstate for the two to visit over the weekend. "Max is very bad at hiding things," she shares jokingly. "So I knew it was coming." During a leisurely morning at their Airbnb, the couple lingered over coffee and homemade Norwegian waffles. That's when Siegelman put his plan into motion. Unknown to Spenning, a photographer was waiting, hidden in the woods, while flowers were arranged around the property. The proposal itself, however, didn't go quite as rehearsed. "I had this whole speech planned," Siegelman says. "But when the moment came, I couldn't get any words out. I just got down on one knee and ugly cried."

In May 2026, the couple gathered their closest family members and friends in southeastern Sicily to celebrate the next chapter of their love story. They tied the knot on the sun-bleached grounds of Dimora delle Balze, an upscale and secluded 19th-century masseria-turned-boutique-hotel. Read on to explore how every element—from the custom fashion Spenning designed to the relaxed yet intimate and romantic aesthetic—beautifully reflected the life they have created and will continue to build together.

Max Siegelman: "Friday night was the welcome dinner. The dress code was 'earth tones.'"

Karoline Spenning: "Our guests traveled so far, so we wanted Friday night to feel very relaxed and our outfits and every other detail to reflect that."

KS: "I had made a dress that I really loved for Friday, but I felt like it wasn't as loose and relaxed as I wanted. Then I found this dress by Kettel Atelier, a designer who sews vintage crochet tablecloths together. I immediately thought, 'Please, I need to buy this and have it overnighted because my wedding is in a week.' I ended up wearing it, and it was perfect. I paired the look with the perfect crochet Magda Butrym heels. I didn't have any jewelry for Friday, and I had walked past a little market in the town of Noto, where we were staying. I spotted a pair of bone earrings and ended up wearing those for the night."

MS: "Karoline designed a white linen double-breasted suit for me, which I wore with a white tank top and white Jacquemus loafers. I also wore this silver necklace that we gifted to all of the guests. It is a replica of this locket that my mom and my grandmother like to give to people as a guardian angel."

WWW Weddings Tip: "Make the wedding feel like the two of you—not like everyone else's expectations. There will always be outside opinions from family and friends about what you should do, but at the end of the day, it's your wedding. We had plenty of moments where people suggested traditions or ideas that weren't right for us, and we kept coming back to the same answer: This is our day, and we want it to reflect us." — Siegelman

MS: "Horses are at the center of our lives and our brand. Sigelman Stable is built around my dad's story as a racehorse trainer, but it's also about everything he has done beyond racing. He created equine therapy programs for children with special needs, veterans living with PTSD, and other inner-city programs. Horses have always represented much more than racing for us. They're part of who we are, what we do, and the stories we try to tell and push forward. Including them in our wedding felt like a natural extension of our relationship, our business, and our lives together. One of the horses we used for our wedding photos was named Shakira, and apparently, she's already something of a celebrity. She's modeled in campaigns for Dolce & Gabbana and other brands."

KS: "All of my mood boards were actually centered around crocheted tablescapes. I wanted everything to feel like your grandma made it. We had horses, and they somehow matched that vibe and the dress I was wearing."

KS: "The first speech was from my aunt, and it was amazing and so sweet. Then my childhood friends gave a speech, and I cried the entire time. I don't even know how many minutes it lasted, but it was so beautiful. The last speech was from Max's friend—really, both of our friends now. It was incredible."

MS: "My friend gave a 10-minute speech comparing our relationship to the New York Knicks. It was called Generational Run, and it followed the timeline of Karoline and me alongside the Knicks. It was absolutely hysterical."

MS: "We spent the entire day with our families and the friends who were staying on the property, which was awesome. We had the whole morning and afternoon together, hanging out by the pool, having lunch, and just enjoying everyone's company. Then, at a certain point, we all went our separate ways to get ready."

KS: "I didn't want bridesmaids because that's not really a big tradition in Norway. I also wasn't entirely sure what I wanted, but I knew I wanted everyone to feel equal. The people there were all incredibly close to us, and we had our closest friends and family staying in the 12 guest rooms on the property. We set up the spa area for all of the girls to get ready, and they put together this beautiful lunch for us. We spent the day enjoying wine and just hanging out together. I hate waiting around, so I intentionally didn't start getting ready until the very last minute. I did my own makeup, and I had my hair done at the venue."

MS: "I got ready with my best friend, who actually officiated the wedding, along with my dad and my brother. My 4-year-old nephew slept through the whole thing."

KS: "Our lives move at what feels like 100 miles an hour, so I wanted to write my vows while I was in a calm, good state of mind. I finished writing them a few hours before the wedding, and that whole moment was incredibly emotional and really special. We then both shared them in front of everyone [during the ceremony]."

KS: "About two months before the wedding, I still hadn't decided on a dress. People always say you procrastinate on the things you care about most, and I think that was definitely true for me. I wanted it to be perfect. I knew I wanted to design it myself, so I sketched it and worked with my team at Siegelman Stable to bring it to life. I wanted it to feel light, effortless, and like me—a fluid, liquid-like 100% silk dress.

"We first made the pattern in muslin to perfect the fit, and I absolutely loved that version. But when we re-created it in silk, it lost the sculptural shape I'd fallen in love with. I couldn't stop thinking about that first sample. With only two months left, we started over from scratch. We bought new fabric and remade it until it felt right. The final version arrived the weekend before we were leaving, and I immediately knew it still wasn't right.

"I called a seamstress I'd worked with for years in Brooklyn, and she worked overnight. At our Saturday fitting, we realized the dropped waist had shifted to my natural waist, completely changing the silhouette. She remade the bodice on Sunday. I thought it was perfect, but she still wasn't satisfied and wanted it sculpted closer to my body. On Monday morning, the day before we left for the wedding, I went in for one last fitting while it was still being made. She ended up handing off the finished gown to Max's dad just 30 minutes before his flight so he could bring it to the wedding."

KS: "For Max's look, I've always loved an oversize suit, but we also wanted him to be able to look back at the photos years from now and still love what he was wearing. We tried to create a slightly boxier tuxedo while keeping it timeless. We started with the fit of a suit we had made previously and turned it into a tuxedo, refining the proportions so everything felt clean and classic. We used as many breathable, natural fabrics as possible because we knew it was going to be so hot."

MS: "I wore vintage cuff links that originally belonged to Karoline's uncle. His father had given them to him, and I first wore them to our engagement party. They happened to feature harness racing horses, which felt especially personal because harness racing is such a big part of both our family and our brand. I paired the look with a classic black bow tie and black leather dress shoes from Jacquemus."

MS: "I also found a vintage harness racing pin online and used it to secure my boutonniere. It was another subtle way to incorporate something meaningful into the look."

KS: "Since meeting Max, horses have become such a meaningful part of my life. I was never a horse girl growing up, but I've learned so much about them. Watching everything Max's dad has built through equine therapy has been incredibly inspiring."

KS: "I paired my dress with Jimmy Choo shoes."

WWW Weddings Tip: "Don't panic when things don't go according to plan. Even though my dress wasn't finished until the last minute, I kept reminding myself that whatever happened would be okay. If I'd ended up walking down the aisle in a dress I found in town the day before, it still would have been perfect because I was marrying the person I love. Everything worked out exactly the way it was supposed to." —Spenning

KS: "I went back and forth about hiring someone to do my makeup because I really wanted to feel like myself, but [I] ended up doing it on my own. I used the M.Ph by Mary Phillips foundation because it looks just like your skin. I wore Rhode blush, a very random bronzer that had probably been sitting in my makeup bag for way too long, and a simple nude eye shadow. I really wanted everything to look like my everyday makeup. I'm really happy I did it myself because I felt like me."

KS: "The final look [I designed for Max] was exactly what I had envisioned. It had slightly oversize shoulders with a boxy silhouette, but the trousers were straighter and more tailored rather than overly oversize. It felt modern while still being timeless."

KS: "I wanted to incorporate the tradition of 'something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue.' Throughout our relationship, Max and I have always said, 'In every lifetime,' because from the moment I met him, I felt like I'd known him forever. I had that phrase embroidered inside my dress in light-blue thread as my 'something blue.' My dress was my 'something new,' and I borrowed my earrings from my friend's jewelry brand, Reservd."

MS: "One thing that was really important to us was making sure the ceremony felt like us. We didn't want to simply copy what people typically do for weddings. We chose a location on the property where no one had ever held a ceremony before, which made it feel even more personal."

KS: "When we first visited the venue, we had dinner at the exact location where we held the ceremony. As soon as I sat there, I remember thinking that I really wanted to get married in that spot. At the same time, though, I also loved the idea of getting married in a church, so we spent time looking at churches nearby to see if that would work. Ultimately, it was much easier for everyone to have the ceremony at the venue itself. When the staff showed us the locations where ceremonies are usually held, I still wasn't completely convinced because I couldn't stop thinking about the church.

"About a month before the wedding, I returned to the venue for our tasting with one of my friends from Norway because Max had a scheduling conflict. While I was there, I met with the incredibly talented design team that our wedding planner had found. They handled both the floral design and all installations, including draping and décor. During that visit, I asked whether it would be possible to hold the ceremony in the same place where we'd had dinner on our very first night."

KS: "The flowers were designed to look organic—as if they had always been growing there. They blended beautifully with the old stone surroundings."

KS: "Since we didn't have bridesmaids or a traditional wedding party, we kept things very simple. We each have one brother, so they essentially served as our best men. I always knew my dad would walk me down the aisle."

WWW Weddings Tip: "Say your vows out loud in front of your family and friends if that feels right for you. We debated it for a long time because I'm naturally very shy. In the end, we realized we could always say loving things to each other in private. What we'd probably never do again was stand in front of everyone we love and tell each other exactly how we felt. That ended up being one of the most meaningful parts of the entire day." — Spenning

KS: "My inspiration centered around old Catholic churches with delicate lace draped over the pews. That was really the feeling I wanted to re-create. They essentially brought all of those church-inspired details outdoors. They transformed the patio into this incredibly romantic ceremony space. I had told them that I didn't want a lot of flowers, so instead, they incorporated layers of lace and dried floral arrangements."

KS: "After the ceremony, Max and I took a few moments to ourselves before joining everyone else. We went back to our room, where they had set up drinks and food for us. We just sat together for a little while, talked about everything that had happened, and let it all sink in. Then we wanted to get our photos done fairly quickly because we really just wanted to spend time with everyone. Our photographer, Olav, knows us so well, so the whole process felt very natural and easy. We spent about an hour taking photos before heading to cocktail hour."

WWW Weddings Tip: "Take a moment to look around because it goes by so quickly." — Siegelman

KS: "Cocktail hour took place in a little garden at the hotel. Drinks and food were served."

KS: "Before the wedding, I had been trying to figure out what song we should use for our father-daughter dance. My dad and I aren't really big dancers, so I wanted something that fit our vibe. I kept asking him for ideas, but he never sent me a song, so about a week before the wedding, I finally chose 'Isn't She Lovely.' What I didn't know was that at the end of my dad's speech, he told everyone that after I was born, there were about 24 hours when my mom was still in the hospital, and it was just the two of us together. During that time, "Isn't She Lovely" came on the radio, and ever since then, he said he had always thought of me whenever he heard it. He started singing the song during his speech. We had never talked about that memory or listened to the song together before. I had no idea it meant anything to him, and he had no idea I had chosen it for our father-daughter dance."

KS: "We wanted the dinner to feel like you were on vacation in Italy with your closest friends and family. We wanted everyone to be sitting down and having good conversations, so we had small table cards with questions that would apply to the people at their tables. We also hired a live Italian band. They played classic songs with a Frank Sinatra vibe. Toward the end of dinner, a few people started dancing."

MS: "During dinner, we had several speeches. Both of our brothers gave speeches, one of Karoline's best friends spoke, and then both of our parents gave speeches as well."

KS: "We danced to a song we had listened to on repeat when we first met each other. It's called 'Please Notice' by Christian Leave."

KS: "The entire tablescape was inspired by my childhood in Norway. I wanted it to feel like growing up in the woods, so we incorporated moss and lots of natural textures. The menu was also almost entirely vegan because that's how I eat, but guests could choose to add a protein if they wanted. There was, of course, plenty of pasta. The cake was intentionally very simple. It was a vegan vanilla cake with cherries."

MS: "We were also lucky enough to work with Don Julio 1942, and they allowed us to create custom miniature bottles that were placed at everyone's seats. Karoline designed the labels herself. Apparently, they'd only done something like that a handful of times before, so it felt incredibly special."

MS: "After dinner, we transitioned into an after-party. Having our friend, who was also a guest at the wedding, Tay James, DJ the evening made it feel even more personal and special."

KS: "For the after-party, I changed into a Saint Laurent sheer lace dress. It got surprisingly cold that evening, though, so halfway through the night, I threw a blazer over it."

As someone who loves to travel, having an upcoming trip to look forward to is basically the key to happiness. And whilst I enjoy a long-haul flight somewhere further afield (yes, I even like the plane food), nothing beats a quick jaunt over to the sunnier side of Europe, does it? I've been lucky enough to have a couple of trips to Italy so far this year, but I couldn't be more excited to head back to Croatia.

It's been a good few years since I visited for Outlook Festival, but I do remember a few key details that'll make it easier to pack this time round. People tend to get a bit more dressed up than I anticipated in areas such as Hvar, so chic trouser co-ords and evening dresses won't look out of place. When it comes to the beach, don't underestimate why everyone (and I mean everyone) wears some form of shoes in the sea. It's rocky. And when it comes to accessories, a giant, carry-everything beach bag and a silk hair scarf (for windier days) are first to go in my case.

These are the seven items I'll be packing for Croatia (and any European summer break) this year.

1. Trouser Co-Ord

Style Notes: Any co-ord in general is worth packing because of its versatility, but trouser sets are key for somewhere where it can get chillier in the evenings. Style Notes: I remember taking so many bikinis, swimsuits and cover-ups to Croatia last time that my case was overweight; lesson learned. My friend is having a baby (yay!) and asked for my registry recommendations. Having a 2.5-year-old means I've spent the last few years field-testing baby gear, so I like to think I know a thing or two about exactly what key items are worth considering.

One month ago, my boyfriend and I packed up our 500-square-foot Upper West Side apartment to move to Los Angeles, where a house double that size (albeit still with one bedroom) was waiting for us. In the lead-up to the move, we basically got rid of everything furniture-wise, moving with only a kitchen table, some rogue accent pieces, and, of course, all of my clothes. Now, a month in, I'm steadily replacing all the pieces we left behind in Manhattan, sourcing items that feel right for our new, more modern, light-filled space. Shoulder-season travel to warm places that aren't quite operating at full capacity yet are among my favorite trips to take. There's a quality to it that's hard to replicate in peak summer: fewer people, more room to breathe, more affordable hotel rates, and the sense that a place is still mostly itself. Menorca in the spring fits that exactly.

Of all the Balearics, Menorca is the least built up in the best way. Even Formentera, which used to be the sleepiest of the islands, has developed more of a pulse in recent years, but Menorca has stayed quiet in a way that feels almost deliberate. There isn't a huge amount to do here in the traditional sense. Days are simple and elemental: long seafood lunches by the water, dramatic wild beaches that require real effort to reach, swimming in water that is genuinely some of the clearest in the Mediterranean thanks to the posidonia seagrass that grows along the seabed and keeps it that way. When you're not at the beach, you're roaming around Ciutadella's old town, poking around the fishing villages along the coast, shopping in Mahón, or making the trip out to Hauser & Wirth on its own private island.

I went to Menorca in late April and into early May, when the island was just starting to shake itself awake for the season, and I'm officially convinced that it was the perfect time to visit. Almost everything had just reopened for the season, the temperatures were divine, and I had the beaches largely to myself. By summer, the island fills up. Parking gets tricky, the best beaches require early starts, restaurants require reservations made well in advance, and the whole experience shifts from peaceful to something a bit more planned around logistics than spontaneity.

A few things to understand before you go to Menorca: You need a car or, at minimum, a scooter, which you can rent at the airport. The island has one main road, the Me-1, which runs east–west through the center, and smaller roads branch off toward towns and beaches. Because it doesn't follow the coastline and many beaches are reached via secondary roads, distances that look short on a map often take longer in reality.

Therefore, where you stay sets the tone for how you experience the island. The island divides roughly into three distinct coastlines, each with a different character. The southwest, close to Ciutadella, is the most scenically beautiful. This is where you find the iconic Menorca: hidden coves with impossibly turquoise water, pale sand, and towering limestone cliffs that drop into still, luminous seas. Many of the best beaches require a 20–30 minute walk to reach, but the reward is that cinematic, almost tropical clarity that defines the island's reputation. The southeast, around Mahón, or Maó as it's commonly known, is more accessible and structured. There's easier beach access, more infrastructure, and a livelier harbor-side feel, still offering that same clear water in a more relaxed, everyday setting. The north is something else entirely. It's not about turquoise coves but about raw, exposed landscape: jagged coastline, red-tinged rock, and a wilder, more elemental feel. Shaped by the Tramuntana wind, it feels harsher and more dramatic in a geological sense.

My advice: Don't try to cover the whole island from one base. During this trip, I spent two nights in the southwest near Ciutadella and the rest on the southeast coast near Mahón, which felt about right. If you don't have the time to move around, decide what kind of trip you want—the wilder, more isolated experience or the easier, more connected one—and pick accordingly.

Where to Stay on Menorca

I chose to spend my first two nights on the southwest coast close to Ciutadella and the dramatic beaches and coves that define this part of the island. Vestige Son Vell, a beautifully restored 18th-century manor set on a 450-acre estate, sits close enough to the sea that several smaller coves are reachable on foot directly from the property. Driving along the narrow country lane toward the estate bordered by fertile fields and citrus and olive groves, the scent of warm earth and Mediterranean flora drifts through the open window before I even park. The welcome is warm and unhurried, which sets the tone for everything that follows.

The property is built around the original manor house, with a handful of rooms inside and villas spread quietly across the grounds. The bath products are from Rowse, a Spanish plant-based line that feels entirely in tune with the setting—subtle, botanical, and quietly luxurious, echoing the almost ethereal atmosphere of the estate itself. There are two pools, a yoga pavilion, and an outdoor fitness area. The infrastructure is there if you want it, but nothing feels imposed or overtly resort-like. Dining follows the same philosophy: a main restaurant centered on seasonal, locally sourced ingredients—many drawn directly from the estate's own garden—alongside a more relaxed bar for light meals and evening drinks.

Experimental Menorca is one of the largest of the island's farmstay-style hotels with 43 rooms spread across 74 acres, including nine private villas with their own plunge pools. It offers the most comprehensive setup of the group on this list: a main pool with a lively pool bar suited to long, lingering lunches, a central restaurant serving breakfast and dinner, and a spa in the main house featuring treatments with Biologique Recherche products. The wellness facilities are particularly strong for a hotel of this scale. There's a dedicated yoga and Pilates studio, sauna, and steam room, plus a secluded yoga platform reached via a 10-minute nature hike set above the water. A small cove is also accessible within a short walk from the property, and there's even a working vineyard on-site, reinforcing the estate's sense of place. The hotel's curated concept shop highlights local designers and brands, alongside a carefully selected range of resortwear, accessories, and jewelry perfect for island living. Experimental is also the most energetic of the properties I stayed at, whether due to its size or the loyal following that Experimental hotels tend to draw. The atmosphere is noticeably lively, attracting a healthy mix of couples and families.

Son Blanc is the most bohemian of the hotels I stayed in. It has a rawer, more spiritual sensibility and a deeply personal feel, which feels more like staying in a thoughtfully curated home than a traditional hotel. The farmhouse sits quietly amid olive groves and open countryside, lending it a sense of calm seclusion that defines the entire experience. The saltwater pool overlooks the property's orchard and has its own laid-back bar, and an honesty bar inside the main house invites guests to mix their own drinks at any hour. Food is a central part of life here and is almost entirely organic, much of it grown on-site. Breakfast is homemade and generous, with fresh cakes, frittatas, and a juice station stocked with vegetables picked from the garden that very morning. The restaurant cooks over charcoal, and the daily menu is shaped by whatever the farm and surrounding sea provide. On Wednesday evenings, the hotel hosts a communal long-table dinner, an easy, convivial gathering that reflects the property's emphasis on connection. Fifteen rooms, including one reserved for creatives in residence, are intentionally simple and tactile with organic materials throughout: carved limestone bathtubs, braided textile headboards, and impossibly comfortable beds dressed in soft Merci linens. Yoga sessions and curated experiences reinforce the hotel's slower, more mindful rhythm, and there's a clear sense of community woven into everything.

Torralbenc is about 15 minutes from Mahón, set on a 70-acre estate of vineyards and olive groves that you drive through on the approach. You arrive at a cluster of low, whitewashed farm buildings framed by cypress trees and lavender, their scent lightly perfuming the air. There are just 27 rooms and cottages, all limestone walls, natural textures, and a quietness that feels deliberate. The restaurant, housed in what was once a grape and barrel storeroom, serves a refined take on Mediterranean cooking using produce from the hotel's own gardens, and the wine list is centered on the estate's vintages. That connection to the land carries through to the hotel's wine tastings, featuring guided sessions that walk you through their small-production wines, often paired with local bites. There's a saltwater pool, a small spa with treatment rooms, and a fitness center, but the rhythm here is slower, more grounded in the landscape. What lingers most is the light at the end of the day: the sun dropping over the vineyards, the white buildings holding onto it, the entire property turning a deep, honeyed gold.

Amagatay offers an elevated and upscale farm stay in the southeast—a romantic 20-room adults-only boutique hotel set within a 14th-century estate near Cala'n Porter with the kind of modern amenities and polish that set it apart from the more rustic farmstays in the area. Rooms are spread between the main house and across the property, each with a private terrace or garden. There are two restaurants worth knowing about here: El Olivar, a refined Mediterranean dining room surrounded by olive trees, and SUA Parrilla, a grill restaurant drawing on Basque tradition with premium cuts and farm-to-table vegetables. The pool sits in a shaded area that keeps it comfortable well into the afternoon, and the Sunset Bar is on hand for cocktails as the light changes.

Suggestions for city stays: La Cayena in Ciutadella and Cristine Bedfor Guest Houses in Mahón.

Where I'll stay next time: Fontenille Menorca Torre Vella and the new Vestige Son Ermità and Vestige Binidufà in the north.

Where to Dine on Menorca

In the old city of Ciutadella on the western part of the island, Bar Imperi is something of an institution. Open since the 1940s, it sits beneath stone arches on the Plaça des Born and is the kind of place locals have been coming to for breakfast for generations. Order the llonguet, a small Menorcan bread roll stuffed with sobrasada and honey or Mahón cheese, with a coffee. Nearby, Cafè Balear, a family-run restaurant overlooking the port, is the go-to for seafood. It's been in business for over 50 years and is still sourcing fish daily from their own boat. Order the lobster stew, the island's most classic dish, or the razor clams. Just outside Ciutadella, Nonna Bazaar is in a category of its own with a festive farm-to-table restaurant set in a restored 100-year-old dusty-red farmhouse, drawing on the full breadth of Mediterranean cooking across its 21 countries. The menu is eclectic and meant for sharing, most of it sourced from the farm. Its newer addition, Nonna Beach, brings the same spirit to the coast near Son Saura beach.

In Mahón, the capital on the eastern end of the island, Bar Augustin is a small, unpretentious bistro running a short fixed menu alongside a chalkboard that changes daily with whatever the market is offering, including a good wine list, worth a lunch. Sa Bodega, on the Plaza de la Constitución, is more of a wine bar than a restaurant: cheese boards, anchovies, charcuterie, vermouth. Not a full meal, but a very good stop. Oysters Menorca is known as much for its oysters as for its caviar spaghetti, which has developed something of a following of its own. And Arjau, on the port, is the place for lobster and rice dishes, run by a chef with 30 years behind him. If you're looking for a natural wine or kombucha stop, look no further than Après-Sol, Casa de Aperitivos.

If you're staying in one of the southeast farmstays near Mahón, Es Molí de Foc is worth the short drive to the sleepy local village of Sant Climent, a 19th-century mill converted into a restaurant with one of the best wine cellars on the island. The menu revolves around rice done every way: dry, soupy, black, and a banda, cooked in a deep fish broth.

The seaside spots are among the most memorable meals you'll have on the island. Cap Roig, perched on a cliff above Sa Mesquida cove just north of Mahón, has been an island institution since the 1980s; come for the fresh local seafood, the lobster, the rice dishes, and one of the better views you'll find from a restaurant table in Menorca. Just down at the cove, Bar Sa Mesquida is the simpler, more casual counterpart, serving calamari, monkfish, and cold drinks, with feet practically in the water. Restaurant Tamarindos sits right on the beach at Es Grau, a quiet fishing village on the north coast, and is the kind of place Menorcans have been coming to all summer for decades for rice, fresh fish, tapas, and cocktails as the sun goes down. Pintarroja in Es Castell is an informal, no-frills seafood restaurant on the terrace at Moll den Pons—grilled prawns, fried baby squid, and sardines, string lights overhead and water just a few meters away. Bucaneros Binibeca is less about the food and more about the experience, featuring a white cave bar carved into the cliffside overlooking a small, calm, family-friendly beach. Ivette Beach Club at Cala Morell, on the northwest coast near Ciutadella, is the most polished of the lot—Mediterranean and Spanish dishes, grilled octopus, charred meat, a cocktail bar upstairs with views that make it worth the drive.

No visit to Menorca is complete without a long lunch or sunset dinner in Fornells, a small whitewashed fishing village on a wide natural lagoon famous for its lobster, which you can enjoy at beloved spots like Es Cranc, Sa Llagosta, and Sa Xerxa.

Where to Shop on Menorca

In my opinion, the tiny capital of Mahón is the only worthwhile destination for shopping in Menorca. The souvenir you'll actually want to take home is a pair of handmade espadrilles, the island's most iconic craft. Boba's is the place for original rope-sole espadrilles handmade by one craftsman, Llorenç Pons, entirely from natural materials. S'Abarca does leather avarca sandals, the other Menorcan classic, where you choose your sole and have them made to order in minutes.

Ca s'Esparter is a 200-year-old shop still run by the sixth generation of the same family, selling esparto goods, workwear, and exclusive tees from local hot spots like Cap Roig.

The "fashion with a capital F" girlies should visit Hetra for a cool, curated assortment of Latin brands, from Argentina to Colombia.

Can Sab, a multi-floor shop run by a French woman with a good eye, mixes funky clothing with antique furniture and homeware that you won't find anywhere else.

Tiny House Menorca is where to go for white linen dresses, straw bags, and the kind of simple, wearable pieces you'll want to wear straight out of the shop.

Visit Casalma for organic homeware, like ceramics, textiles, and objects that capture the Menorca aesthetic you'll want to bottle up and bring home with you.

Where to Beach on Menorca

Everyone has their favorites along Menorca's wild southwest stretch, and to be sure, everyone's would include the dramatic and beautiful Cala Macarella and its neighboring cove Cala Macarelleta. The former is a large beach with a restaurant that you access via a 20-minute walk down from the parking lot, while the latter is reached via a 20-minute hike around the cliffside, opening onto a postcard-perfect cove with some of the clearest, most turquoise water on the island.

Cala en Turqueta is a small, pine-fringed cove that requires a flat 20-minute walk down from the parking lot to a calm, shallow bay ideal for swimming, where you'll see people lying on both the sandy beach and along the rocks sheltered by the forest trees.

While it's not as dramatic as the tall cliff-lined coves characteristic of the southwest, I love Son Saura not only for its ease and accessibility (it's only a five-minute walk from the parking lot) but also for its simple, long sandy stretch with perfectly still, clear blue water. You'll see hikers walking along the Camí de Cavalls coastal path, which extends around the island, where you can reach other hidden beaches and coves that feel far removed from the crowds. Stop at Cala Mitjana on your drive east and hike to the quieter Cala Mitjaneta for a scenic dip framed by low limestone cliffs and dense pine forest.

The southeast is known for its more accessible beaches and coves. Among them, Playa de Binibeca is a good family beach with flat turquoise water and a cute restaurant on the sand. For something more raw with relatively easy access but with similar dramatic beauty to the southwest beaches, go to Cala Binidalí.

You'll also find the more local spots in the smaller coves like Cala de Biniparratx, Caló Blanc, and Cala Binissafúller.

The northern coast of Menorca is known for being the island's wilder, more rugged counterpart to the postcard-perfect south. Instead of soft white and calm turquoise coves, the north has a raw, untamed beauty shaped by Tramuntana winds and a very different geology. Beaches along the north coast, like Cala Pregonda and Cavalleria Beach, are famous for their reddish-gold sand, rust-colored cliffs, and darker, sometimes moodier waters. The sea here can still turn clear and blue on calm days, but it's less predictably turquoise than in the south and often feels more elemental. This side of the island is also less developed, with fewer beach clubs and more untouched stretches of coastline.

What to See on Menorca

Beyond the beaches, the restaurants, and the lazy roaming between Mahón and Ciutadella, there are a few experiences in Menorca worth going out of your way for.

Hauser & Wirth Menorca sits on Illa del Rei, a small island in the middle of Mahón harbor, home to a decommissioned 18th-century naval hospital that sits alongside Hauser & Wirth's gallery spaces, restaurant, and shop. You reach it by shuttle boat from the port, about 15 minutes, which is very much part of the experience. The program centers on rotating contemporary art exhibitions by internationally recognized artists, often spanning sculpture, painting, and large-scale installations that respond to the island's landscape and architecture. Beyond exhibitions, the space hosts artist residencies, educational workshops, and public programs, with a strong emphasis on engaging the local community, particularly through partnerships with Menorcan schools, environmental initiatives, and collaborations with local artisans and producers. The Cantina restaurant sits outdoors under an olive grove on the island, serving shared plates of fresh fish, seafood, and vegetables cooked over fire.

Booking a private boat day with a skipper is expensive in Menorca year-round, so it's worth being strategic about your itinerary. I'd recommend focusing on coves and beaches that are difficult to reach by land, particularly those along the southwest coast. There are also northern and southeastern routes available (I booked a southwest route with Boat Charter Menorca), but if you only have one day set aside for a boat trip, the southwest is usually the best choice. The beaches there are some of the island's most beautiful and least accessible on foot, making them especially rewarding from the water. For this route, booking with a boat company that departs from Cala Galdana is ideal, as it puts you close to several of the most iconic nearby coves and allows you to maximise your time swimming and exploring rather than travelling.

Wine tasting at a local winery: Menorca has a small but genuine wine culture, producing mostly reds from Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Syrah, along with Chardonnay whites and some notable sparkling wines. The most established winery on the island is Bodegas Binifadet, which is just outside Sant Lluís near Mahón. Guided tours run a few times a day in English, ending with a tasting of three wines paired with local goat cheese. There's also a restaurant on-site if you want to stay for lunch or dinner.

Menorca has a long, deeply embedded relationship with horses, which you'll notice immediately in the dressage displays at local fiestas and the equestrian culture woven into daily island life. The best way to tap into that is on the Camí de Cavalls, a 115-mile coastal trail that circles the entire island. The name means "horse path," and it dates back to the 14th century when knights were required to patrol the coastline on horseback. Today, it's a fully restored trail used by hikers, cyclists, and riders, passing through wild nature reserves along clifftops, past prehistoric sites and lighthouses, and down to more than 50 beaches and coves. You don't need riding experience to join a guided tour, and several operators offer sections of the route on horseback, which is far and away the most immersive way to see the parts of the island that don't reveal themselves by car.

Some among us are loyal to a specific candle scent in their homes and will never stray. I think we all have a Diptyque Baies, Le Labo Santal 26, or Jo Malone Pomegranate Noir devotee in our lives. And then there are others, such as myself, who are always on the hunt for the buzziest and newest-on-the-scene candles to add to our collections—in addition to the tried-and-true favorites, of course. As someone who purchases pretty much everything I own online, I place a lot of blind candle orders, but you'll typically find me searching far and wide for reviews before doing so. This time, I'm the reviewer.

I'm a luxury-candle aficionado, and there have been a few standout candles on my radar this year. Some are brand-new, and others have held on to their buzz. As you can imagine, I was more than happy to be a guinea pig and test them in my house, and in doing so, I have something to back up my recommendations. Among the highly coveted brands I tried IRL were Trudon, Loewe, Diptyque, Flamingo Estate, Le Labo, and LAFCO. Trudon Figuerie

Having one of the legendary French fragrance house's candles in your home is a signal of good taste, and the scents are as elegant as the vessels they're in. Many brands make their version of a fig-scented candle, but I've yet to encounter one that's anything like Trudon's newest release Figuerie.

My review: Trudon's Figuerie candle is far from the fruity fig candles you may be familiar with. It's an earthy, woody fragrance inspired more by the actual fig tree than the fruit itself. The prominent fig-leaf note is mixed with hyacinth, tasuki patchouli, and sandalwood, adding depth and a powderiness I didn't expect. This is fancy fig, through and through, and the sage-green vessel is stunning, especially when lit. It's a lovely option for the warmer months and is highly giftable, as everything Trudon makes is.

We all know and love Diptyque's iconic candle scents. Feu de Bois, Baies, Roses, Figuier, Tubéreuse… The list goes on. The wildly popular brand releases limited-edition scents throughout the year and occasionally adds to its permanent collection. The two I tested are permanent ones that Diptyque released to coincide with its new ribbed-glass vessels, which are stunning, by the way.

My Shiso review: I wasn't familiar with shiso prior to receiving this candle, but I'm happy to now be acquainted with it. It's a Japanese herb in the mint family that gives off a light, green scent with a hint of spiciness. Diptyque added almond notes to balance out the herbal scent. It's a very refreshing scent, which makes it ideal for summer. Because it's a bit subtle, I'd recommend burning it in a room that's on the smaller side.

My Rhubarbe review: Rhubarbe is a bit tricky to describe in a way that does it justice, but I'll do my best. This is a vegetal scent that's inspired by rhubarb stalks with a sweetness to it. It's in the green family, similar to Shiso and Figuier, but a bit stronger. It's combined with patchouli notes, which are very subtle. I've enjoyed burning this candle in the kitchen, day or night.

Loewe Pistachio

I'm not sure that any candle could appeal more to a fashion lover than a Loewe one. The glazed terra-cotta vessels alone are worth the investment, but the fragrances are equally special. All of Loewe's Home Scents are pure and concentrated. They're scents you'll notice in the air throughout the day, even when unlit. Pistachio is the latest to join the brand's lineup of found-in-nature candles.

My review: If you prefer gourmand candles, you're going to love Loewe Pistachio. It's creamy and sweet but not overpowering. There's nothing fake or cloying about it. When lit, it gives off a warm, milky scent, which I would've thought I'd prefer during fall and winter, but it hasn't been off-putting in the least on even 95-degree days. The only drawback is that it's almost too pretty to burn.

Le Labo Cyprès 21 and Ambroxyde 17

I find Le Labo candles to be among those with the best throw and most unique scents on the market, and they're housed in minimalist vessels that couldn't be chicer. Every time I try a new one, I claim that it's my favorite. It's also tricky to know what they're going to smell like based on their slightly ambiguous names, so you'll have to trust me when I say that Cyprès 21 and Ambroxyde 17 are two you won't regret adding to your collection.

My Cyprès 21 review: Based on the name and description of the candle alone, I assumed that Cyprès 21 would be undoubtedly wintery, but it's the freshest woodsy candle I've yet to come across, making it perfect for every season of the year. There's a bit of spice to it without the usual smokiness of woodsy candles. It's an incredibly relaxing scent and has turned out to be the one my husband keeps requesting we light. FYI: There's also a limited-edition version of the candle in a blue glass vessel, which is very giftable.

My Ambroxyde 17 review: I'm a huge fan of Le Labo's Another 13 perfume, and Ambroxyde 17 is said to be the candle version of that scent, so I ordered it sight unseen. It's almost impossible to describe the mesmerizing, complex scent, but the primary note is ambroxide, which is a synthetic version of musky ambergris. You'll also smell notes of jasmine and woods. Trust me—it's intoxicating.

LAFCO Midnight Cactus and Tomato Season

LAFCO is known for its distinctive hand-blown glass vessels and candle scents designed for every corner of your living space and every occasion. You'll get many hours (90, in fact) out of the clean-burning, high-quality candles. LAFCO routinely adds new scents into the mix, and I opted to try two popular additions: Midnight Cactus and Tomato Season, which couldn't be more different from each other.

My Midnight Cactus review: With top notes of prickly pear and wild raspberry, Midnight Cactus is subtly fruity. I say subtly because it's balanced out by notes of amber, cactus blossom, rose, cedar, and musk. It's a highly versatile scent that makes sense for any season and any time of day. It's a calming, well-balanced scent that's creamier than most fruit-forward candles. A+.

My Tomato Season review: First of all, let's take a moment for this stunning red-and-white vessel. Tomato candles are certainly having a moment, but a few that I've had are just too vegetal and, well, literal for me. That's not the case with Tomato Season. It greatly benefits from the addition of basil, citrus zest, sage, and cucumber. The herbal notes add depth to the fresh tomato scent. It's the perfect candle for a hot summer day.

Malin + Goetz Strawberry

I find something very appealing about candles named simply after a single fragrance note, as Malin + Goetz's are, but contain complementary notes that enhance the primary one.

My review: There's nothing cloying or artificial about this strawberry candle, which is a far cry from the fruity ones I favored at the start of my candle obsession many years ago. In the minimalist, classic glass vessel is a fresh, reimagined version of strawberry with notes of bergamot, jasmine, musk, and pink pepper. The resulting scent is bright, happy, and unique.

Flamingo Estate Prinsesstårta

Flamingo Estate is a newer entry on the luxury-candle scene but has quickly risen in the ranks thanks to the array of lovely, garden-inspired scents that'll transport you to another place. I've tried a few candles from the Los Angeles–based brand, all of which are exceedingly lovely, but Prinsesstårta intrigued me the most.

My review: Prinsesstårta is a departure from the aforementioned garden-inspired scents that Flamingo Estate is known for. The limited-edition candle is actually inspired by the famous Swedish Principessa Cake from Sant Ambroeus in New York. To create the scent reminiscent of the lemon, almond, and vanilla flavors of the cake, Flamingo Estate used notes of amber, oakmoss, cinnamon, heliotrope flower, and lemon peel, to name a few. It's a decadent scent that isn't heavy or overly sweet. It's one you just need to smell to truly understand it.

Sidia Braless

I kept coming across Sidia Braless products and obviously needed to see what the hype was all about. Sidia's fragrances are named for states of being, so that should tell you something about Braless before your nose even does.

My review: The name of this candle may be slightly vague, but the scent certainly is not. If you like warm, smoky, woodsy scents, you'll love Braless. With notes of leather, musk, patchouli, vanilla, and black pepper, among others, it's an excellent candle to enjoy with the beverage of your choice at the end of a long day. It's a sexy scent that truly thrives during cozy fall and winter nights.

Baobab Collection Tournesol Girasol

Baobab Collection makes some of the most beautiful candles on the market, hands down. Each of its vessels is practically a work of art. Each year leading up to summer, the brand introduces a highly anticipated hand-crocheted, raffia-wrapped candle. I was lucky enough to get my hands on this year's iteration, Girasol.

My review: With notes of orchid, sea salt, and ylang-ylang, Girasol is one of the most floral-forward candles I tried. It's exactly what a summer floral candle should look and smell like. It has a strong throw and is successful at eradicating household smells thanks to its refreshing aquatic notes. A word of warning: It's quickly selling out.

When did you realize you wanted to work in fashion and costume design specifically?

I've always kind of been in clothing. When I was really young, like 13, I was as tall as I am now, which isn't very tall—I'm only about 5' 3 1/2". I was scouted to model, so I did that for a very short time, and then they realized I wasn't going to grow at all. But I loved being on set and everything to do with that, so I went to school for fashion. After that, I started working in retail at a clothing store for a while, and I had my own clothing line on the side.

It was actually while I was working one day that a friend of mine, who worked on the production side of things, came in and started buying multiples of everything—like three of the same shirt. I asked her what she was doing, and she said a designer friend of hers needed help, and she didn't know what she was doing. I told her to give the designer my number—I was always down to help. I got a call about a week later to come work on a show, and it just kind of snowballed from there.

Can you share how you landed on that pink dress for Elle's entrance at her sweet 16 party?

That pink dress is so special to me—it might actually be my favorite look of the whole season. Sophie de Rakoff, who designed the original movies, and I came together while we were prepping the show just to talk about the character. It was so important to me to understand why she and Reese chose what they chose for the movies, so we sat down together and actually designed that dress side by side. It was before any of the costume team had even started—just the two of us sketching and showing each other pictures back and forth. We did five or so iterations before we landed on the one, but when we finally had it, we knew: This is it.

We brought it to our producing team, our director, and our creators, and every single person in the room immediately said, "That's the dress"—the same one we'd been hoping for. It was such a special moment because the movie is so iconic; it meant everything to do justice to it. In a way, Reese was passing the torch to Lexi to bring Elle Woods to a new generation, and I felt like Sophie was passing the torch to me to take it and run.

Were there specific parameters for building out her wardrobe, beyond the feminine silhouettes?

There weren't really parameters, because Elle Woods is a singularity—she's so herself, and in a way she's eclectic. Looking back at the movies, she wore things from all over the spectrum. I don't think Elle ever looked at a designer and thought, well, it's this designer, so I have to wear it. She's drawn to whatever makes her feel good, and that was the goal when we were sourcing. There are archive designer pieces throughout but also vintage things we found where we don't even know the brand—we just knew this felt like Elle Woods. There are contemporary pieces and things built specifically for her. It was less about needing an exact designer piece and more about going on a treasure hunt for things that felt true to her, then putting the pieces together from there.

One thing about me is I don't need much (if any!) convincing to take a summer road trip—especially if it involves zipping down the legendary Highway 1 in Northern California. This is exactly where my latest adventure took me—a three-day mini road trip across Northern California’s most picturesque routes through Monterey, Carmel-by-the-Sea, and Big Sur with car rental service Turo.

For those unfamiliar, Turo is an app-based car-sharing marketplace—often described as the "Airbnb of cars"—where individuals and private companies rent out their personal vehicles to others—perfect if you want to skip the headache-inducing long lines at regular car rental counters with limited selections. Instead, Turo gives you access to vehicles that fit the way you actually want to travel, whether that's something electric, luxurious, sporty, spacious, or simply fun to drive. All you do is search your destination pickup point on the app along with the type of car you want, and the options are endless.

What I Drove

I opted for a chic and luxurious Mercedes-Benz GLC-Class 2025 (because if I'm going to cruise down Highway 1, why not do it in utmost comfort and style?). The host sent me all the details in advance on the app, and it was a seamless pickup from San Francisco Airport and a smooth ride all the way to the gorgeous Bernardus Lodge & Spa, my resting place throughout the trip.

Where I Stayed

For three nights, I stayed at Bernardus Lodge & Spa, a luxury 28-acre wine-country retreat nestled in Carmel Valley. The hotel is elegant and incredibly relaxing, surrounded by lush lavender, sun-drenched grapevines and sublime mountain views. My room was incredibly comfortable featuring a two-person soaking tub, plush bathrobes, an inviting fireplace, and intimate dining space inside and outside. It was the perfect spot to unwind after a day of exploration.

Where I Visited

For the next three days, I enjoyed coastal drives, ocean views, and great food and had the chance to try some of Turo's luxury exotic cars to really top off the road trip in style!

Day 1

Point Lobos State Natural Reserve: For epic vistas and one of the richest marine habitats in California, our first stop was Point Lobos State Natural Reserve, often called "the crown jewel of the California State Park system." It's an outstanding spot for sightseeing, photography, picnics, and scuba diving, and home to sea lions, harbor seals, elephant seals, and sea otters as well as unique geological formations and rich flora and fauna. There are tons of amazing hikes you can do. Since we had a full day planned, we did a shorter trail called the Granite Point Trail and Moss Cove Trail, which offer panoramic views of the water and an amazing viewing area above the cove. This place gets busy pretty early, so expect to park on the street if the parking lot is full.

Garrapata State Park: Heading south on Route 1 toward Big Sur, we stopped at Garrapata State Park and walked the easy and atmospheric 0.7-mile Garrapata Buff Trail, which has beautiful, elevated views of the coastline and ocean. On our visit, it was moody, misty, and magical—with waves crashing over rocks and two miles of dramatic beach coastline, with plenty of sea lions, harbor seals, and sea otters in the coastal waters.

Pfeiffer Big Sur State Park: After passing the Bixby Creek Bridge, one of the most iconic landmark's along California's Big Sur coastline, we made a quick stop at the charming Big Sur River Inn General Store, where I picked up some cool souvenirs and delicious burritos before embarking on our final hike of the day at the epic Pfeiffer Big Sur State Park. The park offers peaceful trails through towering coastal redwoods, river crossings, and shaded forest canyons in the heart of Big Sur. The trails range from easy, flat walks to more challenging climbs where you're rewarded with stunning canyon views. We did the moderate Pfeiffer Falls hike among the majestic redwoods to a waterfall. It was breathtaking. A must-visit!

Day 2

Monterey Bay Whale Watching: On the second day, we headed north on Route 1 toward Monterey for a two-hour boat trip from Moss Landing—one of the best whale-watching areas in California. It was an incredible experience, where we were lucky enough to see two humpback whales and four blue whales!

Cannery Row, Monterey: Heading back south, we stopped at Monterey's historic waterfront district, Cannery Row, known for its oceanfront views, shops, and restaurants. It's also located right next to the famous Monterey Bay Aquarium. While it was quite touristy, I rather enjoyed the lively coastal atmosphere.

Carmel Beach: One of my favorite parts of the trip was relaxing at Carmel Beach and Carmel-by-the-Sea Village. The beach is known for its scenic stretch of soft white sand (and often referred to as Carmel White Sand Beach), rugged beauty, cypress trees, and panoramic views of the Pacific Ocean. It's stunning and just steps from the town's restaurants and bars.

Carmel-by-the-Sea Village: I fell in love with the small town of Carmel-by-the-Sea and its charming restaurants, quaint homes, and amazing stores. (Carmel Home Collection and Olivier Napa Valley were some of my favorite spots.) After a spot of shopping, we had an early dinner at the amazing European bistro La Bicyclette and ended with a sweet treat from one of California's oldest bakeries, Carmel Bakery.

What I Packed

For the short trip, I packed plenty of comfortable and casual clothing for long days driving and exploring. I made sure I brought plenty of practical hiking gear as well as versatile separates and warm layers, as it can get pretty cool in the mornings and evenings. I also packed some pieces that could easily translate from day to night for casual-chic dinners.

When it comes to shoe trends, Beatriz de los Mozos, CEO and founder of the shoe brand Flabelus, firmly believes that one shouldn't have to sacrifice comfort for style. Yet before de los Mozos was evolving the way we wear shoes, her career actually began in the world of law.

After earning a law degree followed by a master's in comparative politics, she launched her career practicing law in London. She later joined a legal startup as sales manager and senior legal expert, where she played a key role in scaling the business over several successful years. Her trajectory shifted dramatically due to a personal health challenge. Diagnosed with scoliosis, de los Mozos received orders from her doctor to stop wearing her favorite shoes. Refusing to sacrifice style for comfort, she envisioned footwear that could deliver both. This idea became the foundation for Flabelus, blending the casual elegance of Italian furlanes with the traditional comfort of Spanish espadrilles.

Determined to bring her concept to life, de los Mozos launched a Kickstarter campaign. She partnered with a Spanish factory to produce the unique hybrid designs, and Flabelus was born. What started as an online-only venture quickly gained traction among consumers seeking stylish yet supportive shoes. In just five years, the brand has achieved remarkable growth. Flabelus expanded from digital sales to physical retail and is now available in over 700 stores across 54 countries. The company has also developed a growing network of flagship boutiques, strengthening its global presence and reputation for comfortable, fashionable footwear.

As a Survivor fan, I was convinced my first trip to Fiji would involve Jeff Probst, a CBS film crew, and at least one gratuitous B-roll sequence of me gazing dramatically into the distance. Alas, my introduction to the South Pacific nation swapped bamboo shelters for air-conditioned hotel rooms and rice rations for five-star meals. A tough assignment, but it was a sacrifice I was willing to make. (You better believe I still got my pensive, Parvati-worthy footage, however.) After six nights island-hopping around Fiji, I came away with a deep appreciation of the country's natural beauty, chic resorts, and warm hospitality. It's certainly much more than the place where Survivor, Love Island, and Cast Away have filmed, but Fiji's TV and film lore did have me disproportionately delighted nonetheless.

Overview

Situated roughly 1100 miles south of the equator and comprised of over 300 islands in the South Pacific Ocean, Fiji is brimming with coral reefs, world-famous surf breaks, rainforests, white sand beaches, and rich marine biodiversity. And that's just the natural realm. Luxurious resorts, some with overwater bungalows known as bures, draw visitors to top-notch restaurants, indulgent spas, cool bars, and fun beach clubs. And thanks to the friendly Fijian people, you can experience all of the above while wrapped in the warm glow of the bula spirit. In Fiji, you'll often be greeted with the word "bula," but it doesn't simply mean hello—it also represents Fiji's joyful, generous, and welcoming ethos.

Weather: Fiji has a warm tropical climate year-round. November to April is the hotter, rainier season, while May to October typically sees slightly cooler, drier weather.

Getting there: Nadi International Airport (NAN), home to Fiji Airways, is the country's busiest airport. Fiji Airways operates nonstop routes to Nadi from Los Angeles (LAX), San Francisco (SFO), Dallas–Fort Worth (DFW), and Honolulu (HNL). Whichever American city you leave from, be prepared to time-travel across the international date line. I took a late-night flight from Los Angeles on a Tuesday, slept like a baby on my hitch-free Fiji Airways flight, and arrived in Nadi on Thursday morning.

Tip: Nonstop Fiji Airways flights from mainland U.S. typically land in Nadi between 5 and 6 a.m., so consider paying for your hotel room for the previous night so you can check in right away.

Time difference: Fiji does not observe daylight saving time, so the time difference compared to the U.S. will vary depending on the time of year. Fiji is 19 hours ahead of Los Angeles during daylight saving time (mid-March to early November), and 20 hours ahead during standard time (early November to mid-March). This might sound jarring at first, but I honestly found this time difference easier for communicating with my family in California than traveling to Europe.

Where to Stay

As the daughter of an avid surfer, my favorite fun fact about Fiji Marriott Resort Momi Bay is that it's the closest mainland resort to Cloudbreak, one of the most famous surf breaks in the world (and Kelly Slater's all-time favorite wave). As such, the resort has served as the official host venue for several World Surf League events, including the 2024 Corona Fiji Pro and the 2025 Lexus WSL Finals Fiji. In other words, don't be surprised if you spot pro surfers around the grounds in between south swells.

Another fun fact: This resort boasts the only overwater bures on Viti Levu, Fiji's mainland. Each of these thatched-roof villas (pictured above, in the bottom row) has a private deck with direct access to the tranquil lagoon. Floating in this bathwater-warm turquoise lagoon was by far my favorite thing to do at Momi Bay. Only after my fingers started pruning did I reluctantly decide to swim back to shore.

Fiji Marriott Resort Momi Bay has several amazing restaurants. On the ocean-facing side of the resort is Fish Bar, serving up freshly caught seafood and incredibly Instagrammable sunsets. I also loved the chill vibe of Voi Voi Bar (pictured top right), where we ordered beers and took a Fijian cooking class. (Continue to the What to Do section below to see what other activities I tried.)

Here's a bird's-eye view of Fiji Marriott Resort Momi Bay's standalone Fijian bures, both over the water and on the beach. The hotel also has standard rooms housed in two-story buildings along the east side of the lagoon.

Sheraton Resort & Spa, Tokoriki Island, was the second stop on my luxury tour of Fiji. Accessible only by boat or helicopter, this island is roughly 21 miles off the coast of Nadi. Our private boat transfer dropped us off directly on the sand (pictured above, bottom left), and I was immediately itching to get in the ocean. There's fantastic and convenient snorkeling directly in front of the resort, where you can see green sea turtles, Nemo-like clown fish, angelfish, and a rainbow of colorful coral. Coral is so abundant, in fact, that Jacques Cousteau famously called Fiji the "Soft Coral Capital of the World."

Post-snorkeling, I cleaned up for dinner and put on a polka-dot dress by Et Ochs and a red woven bag by Apaya, which matched a fallen hibiscus I found and wore behind my ear. Did you know that in Fijian, Hawaiian, Polynesian, and other cultures, wearing a flower on your left ear indicates you're in a relationship or married, and wearing one on your right ear says you're single? I can confidently say that Tokoriki is the most scenic place I've ever taken an outfit photo in, so it obviously went on my IG grid immediately.

Tip: You need to snorkel and rent Jet Skis during high tide because it's too shallow to safely traverse over the coral reef during low tide, so be sure to ask the resort staff for guidance on timing. (You can still swim in the shallow water near the shoreline during low tide, however.) Oh, and please learn from my mistake: Don't forget to apply sunscreen on the back of your legs if you're snorkeling!

Wearing fins, it took me less than five minutes to leisurely swim past the sea grass to reach the edge of the coral reef in front of the Sheraton Resort & Spa, Tokoriki Island, pictured above, but you can also hitch a ride on the resort's Jet Ski tows if you prefer.

Sheraton Fiji Golf & Beach Resort is a foodie's paradise. It doesn't have as spectacularly clear water and white sandy beaches as the other two hotels I've already discussed above, but it has a much wider range of restaurants and the biggest breakfast buffet I've ever seen.

Newly opened Cellar & Barrel is Fiji’s only dedicated wine and whiskey bar, and the resort's café, 28G, was the only place I found a real matcha latte during my weeklong island-hopping excursion. That's also where I ate the delectable dessert pictured above (bottom right): a crunchy, dark chocolate–coated puffed rice cake topped with mango mousse coated in yellow frosting, finished off with swirls of whipped cream and strawberry slices. I also enjoyed touring the resort's beehives and five-acre farm (pictured top left and bottom left), where seasonal vegetables and fruit are grown on-site for the property's six restaurants and bars.

What to Pack

• Reef-safe sunscreen: As I mentioned, Fiji is known as "The Soft Coral Capital of the World," so pack a reef-safe sunscreen made with mineral UV filters such as non-nano zinc oxide or titanium dioxide instead of chemical sunscreen ingredients. Avoid oxybenzone, octinoxate, octocrylene, and parabens, which have been linked to coral bleaching and harm to marine ecosystems. My colleague recently did an in-depth review of Osea's Marine Screen SPF 50 Mineral Sunscreen ($42), which is made with non-nano zinc oxide.
  
  
• Sturdy wide-brim hats with chin straps: Sorry, but your floppy sun hat will not hold up during windy boat rides. You need both a stiff brim and a chin strap to provide adequate sun protection in the wind and to ensure your hat doesn't immediately take flight. The one I'm pictured wearing above is the Your Stylist Says Best Hat ($130). I'm obsessed with this hat, and I've been wearing it for over four years—it's also come with me to Kauai, Oahu, Montecito, and lots of other places. It's not "packable" in the sense that it's not foldable, but the designer, Abby Arad, made this Instagram Reel demonstrating a genius way to stash it in your suitcase. Oh, and Hilary Duff owns it, too!
  
  
• On-theme books: There's nothing I love more than curating a thematic reading list for a trip. For instance, in Savannah, Georgia, I bought Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil, which chronicles a murder in the Southern city's most haunted mansion. For Fiji, I packed Escape!: A Novel by former Survivor contestant Stephen Fishbach. (As I mentioned, the show films in Fiji.) It's about a reality TV competition set on a tropical island that devolves into a Lord of the Flies type of situation. I promise you don't have to like Survivor to appreciate this fictionalized version of reality TV's seedy underbelly.

What to Do

• Village tours: Fiji Marriott Resort Momi Bay organizes guided visits to a nearby village, where we were greeted with a song and dance by four generations of residents (pictured above, top left). We also joined a kava ceremony, a South Pacific tradition that dates back over 3000 years. It involves the special preparation and sipping of a drink made from kava roots.

For the third annual Who What Wear 100 Beauty Awards, Beauty Director Erin Jahns worked with in-house beauty-editor testers and a roster of celebrity experts to share a curated list of the best beauty products across makeup, hair, skincare, and more.

One of this year's winners in the hair category was Roz's Salt Scalp Scrub.

"Both of our hairstylists commented on this one and reviewed it and said that it's a must to remove buildup and give your scalp a refresh," Jahns said.

Another favorite in the makeup category (for the second year in a row) was Makeup by Mario's Master Mattes Palette.

"It's basically just the perfect palette," Jahns said.

In the latest episode of The Who What Wear Podcast, Jahns talks to Editor in Chief Kat Collings about some of this year's standout products—including a foundation that is worth the splurge and an unexpected tool.

Was there one product that several beauty power players were really into?

I would say Roz's Salt Scalp Scrub.

[Both] of our hairstylists commented on this one and reviewed it and said that it's a must to remove buildup and give your scalp a refresh.

They love using it once a week, and it gives you incredible volume at the roots and really a fresh base for anything you're doing the rest of the week.

It's also very gentle and perfect before a big event, like a wedding or red carpet.

You mentioned the scalp scrub. Are there any other standouts that you think our readers should definitely know about?

Chris McMillan launched a line in the last year.

All of his products are great, but his Glassy Smooth Hair Oil won for best hair oil, and it is so great.

It does really give you that glassiness but without any oiliness or heaviness.

Then Crown Affair's Overnight Repair Serum was another one where you just apply it at night.

It feels very lightweight, it smells nice, and then you wake up and you feel like if you have split ends, you can't really see them anymore.

Your hair just feels stronger, shinier, and one of those kind of easy things that you can just do before you go to bed and wake up with better-looking hair and then get that instant gratification, but also obviously with time kind of builds upon the results.

Let's talk about makeup. Is there a universal product that you think literally anyone or almost anyone could pick up in Sephora and love?

This is another one that I think all the celebrity makeup artists on our panel would back me up would be the Charlotte Tilbury Airbrush Flawless Setting Spray, especially if you do use base products like a concealer or a foundation.

As we're heading into summer, when, you know, maybe skin gets a little bit hotter, it just locks everything in.

There's another one, too. Makeup Forever's Multitasking Artist Color Pencil. That's an OG.

I feel like you see all the celebrities wearing it or testing it on TikTok or, you know, makeup artists love it, too.

You can use it as a lip liner, an eyeliner, can use it as a shadow, a blush, and it has lots of iconic shades.

Are there any other celeb faves from the guest panel of judges?

This product actually won last year as well, so this is an example of a product that just could not be beat in its category. It's the Makeup by Mario Master Mattes Palette in original.

It's basically just the perfect palette.

We had two of our makeup artists, Renée Loiz and then Lila Childs, both comment on this.

Then we also had our aesthetician, Candace Marino, we had Bridget Brager, who's our celebrity hairstylist—or one of our celebrity hairstylist judges—so, so much applause for this product.

Are there any makeup winners that you don't necessarily need but are kind of a fun treat-yourself moment?

One of our other most expensive products that we gave an award to, especially the makeup category, was the Hermès Plein Air Luminous Matte Foundation.

It's definitely not the type of matte foundation where it feels cakey or really, really matte, like 2016 era, but gives you this kind of cloud-like finish where it doesn't look too dewy or wet like some foundations end up looking.

Any products that surprised you or that kind of disrupted your status quo gold-standard beauty routine?

Mara's Pearl Peptide Glaze, which I've already heard is one of our top sellers so far since our winners were announced. It's just really dreamy.

It's kind of a three-in-one essence, toner, serum hybrid, and it really does just instantly transform your skin.

Let's move on to tools. What's one splurge you would recommend?

This kind of depends on what you're into, whether you're kind of a hair person, whether you are trying to improve your skin, because our tools section really spans everything.

I think that the one best thing that you can purchase is the Qure shower filter, which is $99. It's easy to install.

There's different colors and finishes. It uses a triple-layer filtration system that reduces 99% of chlorine, heavy metals, harsh minerals that are usually getting in your hair, getting on your skin, and just drying and stripping.

It's one of those things that helps improve all the other products that you're using.

Gone are the days when planning your wedding wardrobe was just about the dress for the big day. Lately, chic brides build out an entire capsule for their bridal era. The main dress, the after-party dress, the honeymoon pieces… and, of course, the swimwear is the final touch. The bachelorette and honeymoon are going to require building out a beachy look that is more than denim shorts and a white bikini. I'm not a bride, but if I were, I might plan my swimwear a bit more meticulously than the average person. Here's why.

For me, styling swim from the outward layer to the interior is the way to go about it. Especially on a bachelorette, you may be headed out for a boat day or cabana and will spend more time in your cover-up than just the swimsuit. Choosing the right cover-up is key, no matter if your swimwear choice leans minimalist or statement. Whether you're in your bridal era or just fancy white swimsuits, the options are plentiful below.

How to Style It

Let your bridal era be the excuse to wear anything but your usual go-to pieces. A new cover-up, cool hat, statement jewelry, and anything else you can think of should make a play here.

Don't think you're only allowed to wear white swimsuits on your special day. A print that is truly you or feels special will never fail. And who doesn't like something blue?

Without a bridal era in sight, I wore this white swimsuit in Miami. The cutouts were the highlight, and I wouldn't mind pulling something like this out again when I'm planning my big day.

Sometimes you have to let the accessories do the talking. A larger-than-life hat is worth the suitcase space it takes up—highly recommend.

Let the cover-ups be as glamorous as you'd like. I'd save my big moment for a dress like this with just the right amount of sparkle.

The Best Bridal Cover-Ups

A little over three weeks ago, I was packing my bags for the rainforests of Costa Rica. I'd been before in 2016, traveling with a group of 11: my parents, grandparents, aunts, and cousins. Given our Costa Rican heritage, it made sense to return to our roots as a family, following an excursion-packed itinerary funneling through San José—but this getaway would be different.

Instead of a see-everything kind of journey, my husband and I would tuck ourselves into the jungle-meets-ocean landscape of Uvita, staying at luxury hideaways Rancho Pacifico and Vista Celestial. The elevated, romantic escape felt more like a restorative retreat rather than a whirlwind trip, set about a four-hour drive from the capitol and offering cinematic views, open-air living, and a secluded way to experience the country.

While I knew sinking into my personal plunge pool and sipping on pure Arabica coffee would be easy, deciding what to pack was challenging. Not only am I a strictly carry-on-only flyer, but Costa Rica brings everything from unexpected thunderstorms to wildlife encounters. Coupled with that, the resort extended elevated experiences, like chef-driven dinners and indulgent spa treatments.

I needed looks that were functional, versatile, and stylish, which led me to pack five key trends—and ditch five others.

Beaded Backs Instead of Covered Styles

This summer's favorite styles are all about the details, so I made sure to pack my crochet maxi dress, finished with an elongated string of beads cascading down the back. The embellishments add texture and intrigue, making it the epitome of a vacation-ready dress. Because of the thoughtful and elevated accents, I was able to wear this flattering silhouette from a relaxed happy hour to a lavish four-course meal.

Running Shorts Instead of Biker Fits

I wouldn't say biker shorts are out, but running minis have taken center stage. I wore a swishy hot-pink pair, leaning into the vibrant retro spirit of nostalgia. Being that I was headed on a private boat tour along the Sierpe River (home to one of the most biodiverse mangrove regions in Central American), I think I nailed the rugged-chic look.

Raffia Bags Instead of Suede

Suede will always be a favorite of mine; however, it's too warm for sticky summer days—especially in the humid climate of Central America. Enter: raffia bags. The lightweight woven design pairs with everything from sundresses to flowing blouses, like the turquoise-blue silhouette that belonged to my late great-grandmother, who grew up in Costa Rica.

Soft Crochet Instead of Stiff Underwire

I wasn't about to squeeze a stiff, uncomfortable underwire bikini into my luggage. Instead, I reached for an easygoing crochet style made for a visit to Playa Hermosa, a decadent coffee scrub at the spa, and swims in an expansive infinity pool overlooking the dense forest.

Flowy Knits Instead of Structured Bodices

Corsets, bustiers, and paneling aren't your friends during heat waves, so I stashed this lightweight knit in my bag. It barley skimmed my body, keeping me fresh and cool. Bonus points for the side slits and halterneck, which added a breezy finish.

Over the past decade, living in France, I have attended what feels like 852 French weddings. I have been to more French weddings than any other type of social event in my life. Children’s birthday parties now come in a respectable second, though they’re nowhere near as competitive. Why so many? It’s not that I have an impossibly large social circle, though my husband does have an impressive number of first cousins. It’s that the French, with their passionate devotion to the separation of religion and state, often have two weddings per couple.

Before any religious ceremony can take place, couples are legally required to marry at their local mairie (city hall). Their forthcoming union is announced publicly on a noticeboard outside the building (to give anyone in the vicinity with just cause the chance to dispute the union), after which they may proceed with whatever religious celebration they choose (or not). For many couples, these become two entirely separate events: a civil wedding in the city, followed weeks or months later by a larger, countryside celebration.

Then there are the hen dos, which the French charmingly call "l’enterrement de vie de jeune fille"—literally, "the burial of the young woman’s life." (Men receive the same treatment.) That’s potentially three separate occasions requiring three separate outfits. More, if you’re the sort of person who likes an outfit change. As someone who loves weddings but also values efficiency, I’ve spent years taking notes. Somewhere around my 20th French wedding, I realised that French women approach wedding dressing quite differently from their English counterparts. Their goal isn’t perfection, but it’s endurance, because French weddings aren’t just photo ops; they’re marathons. Here are the lessons I’ve learned.

5 Style Tips for Dressing for a French Wedding

1. Comfort Always Wins

There is nothing—and I mean nothing—worse than spending 12 hours trapped inside an uncomfortable outfit. The biggest mistake wedding guests make is dressing for the arrival rather than the event itself. French weddings routinely begin in the afternoon and continue until the small hours. There may be a church ceremony (a Catholic mass can be two hours long), a cocktail hour, dinner, speeches, dancing, late-night food and then more dancing. Then, the next day, there’s the poolside brunch (giant afterparty).

You need to survive all of it. I’d personally rather feel fantastic than spend an entire day wondering whether a strapless bra is slipping south. Likewise, I’d rather dance properly in a sturdy mid-heel (or flat!) than spend the evening perched on stilettos before inevitably changing into emergency flats. French women have mastered this calculation. Rather than packing trainers for later, they simply start with shoes they can actually wear.

2. French Women Treat Dress Codes More Casually Than You’d Think

Like many wedding cultures, there is one universally understood rule: don’t wear white. Beyond that, things become surprisingly murky. You may be surprised to learn that despite Parisian women’s well-documented devotion to black, it isn’t typically the colour of choice at French weddings. Given its association with mourning, this makes a certain amount of sense, I suppose. The rule that truly baffled me, however, concerned red. I only learned of it recently whilst wearing a bright red dress to a wedding.

A fellow guest informed me that red supposedly signals that you are the groom’s mistress. Yes, you read that correctly. This felt like useful information that perhaps could have been shared before the ceremony. Apparently, it’s an old superstition that still circulates in certain circles. Meanwhile, red remains a traditional bridal colour throughout much of India and Pakistan, associated with prosperity, joy and marriage itself. So yeah, personally, I’m not buying it. In fact, I wore another red dress to a Paris civil wedding last week.

3. Weddings Are the One Time French Women Fully Embrace Colour

Every French wedding gives me a slight The Wizard of Oz moment. The same women who spend most of the year dressed in navy, black, camel and cream suddenly emerge wearing fuchsia, emerald green, tomato red, saffron yellow and combinations that, on paper, have absolutely no business working together. And yet they do.

French wedding style is often less about matching and more about intentional contrast: pink with red, lilac with burgundy, bright florals against tailored outerwear. The result feels joyful rather than precious. I’ve lost count of the number of times I’ve arrived questioning a colour combination only to spend the rest of the day wondering why I don’t wear it myself. Personally, pink and red remain my favourite pairing.

4. Don't Try Too Hard

One thing I consistently notice at French weddings is that women rarely look as though they’re trying too hard. That doesn’t mean they dress conservatively, quite the opposite. But French wedding dressing tends to favour suggestions, like a beautifully cut back, an incredible fabric, a dramatic sleeve or a perfectly tailored silhouette. Another not-trying-too-hard facet I’ve noted over the years is that with all the weddings to keep up with, my Parisian friends are spending less on these outfits than you might think.

There is no shame whatsoever in a dress from the high street or a French mid-level brand, in fact, and a perfect vintage find is one’s crowning glory. That or an excellent rotation of "tradesies" with one’s similarly fashion-minded friends. "You wear the shoes, I will wear that dress, then we swap." So yes, it’s definitely not a spending competition. To the contrary, pulling it all off for less is to be admired, even envied.

5. Low-Key Beauty Rules at Every Age

If there is one consistent French wedding beauty rule, it’s this: nobody wants to look overdone. Over-60 French women particularly excel at this. I am always amazed by the level of embracing one’s flaws and highlighting one’s natural features. The women whose beauty routines I want to snatch most throughout the marathon are rarely the ones with the most elaborate updos or the most complicated makeup.

Plus, if you haven’t gone for hair and makeup that’s too elaborate, it’s much less likely to look like it’s come apart at the seams after hours of wild dancing. Instead, hair tends to look soft and touchable. Makeup enhances rather than transforms. The irony, of course, is that achieving this level of apparent effortlessness often requires considerable effort. But that’s a different story for a different day. Oh, and if you’re like me, don’t forget to wear waterproof mascara—I'm not jaded yet!
