While longline jeans continue to trend as the denim choice du jour among the fashion crowd, cropped jeans have been rising in popularity again. Bella Hadid wore a chic pair of cropped jeans while in Europe last month, and Lauren Conrad is also in on the trend.

The fashion designer and reality TV star wore a pair of straight-leg cropped jeans that hit right at the ankle while in New York City promoting the much-anticipated Laguna Beach reunion. She styled the jeans with a gorgeous camel coat and a Saint Laurent crossbody bag. For shoes, she didn't opt for sneakers, sandals, or ballet flats, which are often front-runners with cropped jeans and, of course, are a stylish choice. She wore backless loafers, which are also becoming increasingly popular. Note that Hadid also paired loafers with her cropped jeans.

As the spring/summer 2026 runways proved, backless loafers are an It shoe choice. They bring instant polish to a look, and the slip-on style gives them an easy, wearable vibe. And yes, Conrad's cropped jeans are the perfect choice to show off the design detail.

After several years of all things ’90s retaking fashion and beauty trends, it seems a natural progression that the 2000s followed suit. But if the ’90s were known for sleek, minimalist looks, the decade after them was known for just the opposite. "Hair in the 2000s was wild because everyone was trying to do something a little different that no one had seen before,” says celebrity hairstylist and Color Wow artistic director Joseph Maine. "There were really no limits and people were experimenting with different textures and accessories. It was a playful time for style.” And playful is right. From dramatic hair colors to iconic (and unique) haircuts, hair in the early aughts was in a beauty league of its own.

Although some of today’s fashion icons like Bella Hadid and Megan Thee Stallion are no doubt inspired by this time in fashion and beauty history, it’s evident that some styles may stay firmly in the past. Lopez famously topped off her braided hairstyle at the 2000 MTV VMAs with a white bedazzled bandana that matched her outfit. 

We couldn’t help but wonder… if SJP hadn’t let her natural curls run loose, would Carrie Bradshaw’s style—and in turn, Sex and the City itself—be so iconic?

Berry’s is arguably one of the all-time great short haircuts from any era. "That pixie cut will really never go out of style, especially if you have the bone structure that Halle does,” says Maine. 

Good news for Kelly: Her two-tone hair color is making its way back again, with celebs like J.Lo and Dua Lipa wearing the look recently. 

Good news if you still love Avril’s slick-straight look. "Straight, glossy hair really never goes out of style,” says Maine, who recommends using a smoothing treatment like Color Wow Dream Coat ($30) "to give thermal protection and add a ton of shine.”

The late singer-actress was ahead of every trend she wore, from her ombré hair color to her deep side part—a look that dominated the decade (sorry, Gen Z).

"This was an iconic hairstyle that was rarely replicated well,” says Maine of Aguilera’s multitonal look. "The sort of preciseness and choppiness of the cut and extensions helped give this a bit of edge.”

The crimper may have peaked in the ’80s, but it held on through the early aughts as evidenced by Tyra (and her smize).

Brandy’s contributions to millennium-era prom styles can’t be overstated. Case in point: This gorgeous upswept braid bun, which would have looked perfect for the occasion.

She flirted with pink, blue, and even brunette, but Gwen’s bleach blonde was one of the most iconic hair colors of the time (it even caught the attention of Martin Scorcese, who gave her the role of Jean Harlow in The Aviator). 

The rapper made her signature short haircut even more of a statement look by dyeing it shades like lavender and red to match her red carpet looks.

Keri’s haircut in season 2 of Felicity caused ratings to drop, as well as actual death threats. In hindsight, though, her character was going through a breakup (who hasn’t been there?), and also, she looked pretty great! 

The megastar has worn her hair in countless styles, but her long, Destiny’s Child–era waves set the tone for her look for years to come.

Don’t go pulling your Bump-It out of storage just yet, says Maine. "The poof is not coming back anytime soon," He says, however, "Pulling the fringe area back a bit more sleek is a great way to modernize this look and even add some fullness to the crown area.”

"The piecey bangs with some hair half-up is definitely back In style,” says Maine, adding that he’d leave "the additional peek-a-boo braids” back in 2000.

Seemingly every celeb wore this gravity-defying blow-out—extra layered hair required. Also, a moment of appreciation for how little Gabrielle Union has changed since this photo, from the 2001 NAACP Image Awards was taken.

For a brief moment in the early aughts, Farrah Fawcett’s iconic hairdo came back in style. Of course, Gisele pulled the look off with aplomb. 

This particular shade of dark red hair color only existed in the years 1999–2002. We don’t make the rules!

Along with her impossibly low-rise jeans, Brit’s love of headwear became one of her most notable style trademarks.

It’s the future she can see? With some slight styling adjustments, Raven’s Louis Vuitton logo scarf is just as in-demand today.

Blame LiLo for all our questionable side bangs circa 2003. Maine says it’s actually a great transition style: "I think side bangs are on the horizon with so many girls cutting curtain bangs recently,” predicts the hairstylist, adding that "The best way to grow them is by blending them into a bit of a side bang.”

Mischa’s O.C.-era waves would make Marissa Cooper proud. "This wavy texture is back in full force,” says Maine. "The best way to modernize this a bit is by using a waver with a [barrel] slightly larger than what Mischa used.”

Lauren Conrad might have begun her tenure in the public eye with famed MTV reality show The Hills, but these days, her multifaceted career resembles that of a CEO as opposed to a reality star. In fact, you could put any of these titles before her name, and it would be true: entrepreneur, co-founder of the nonprofit fair-trade store The Little Market, philanthropist, and author (of seven The New York Times best sellers, to be exact). She also started her namesake line, LC Lauren Conrad, with Kohl's 10 years ago, and it's still going strong. Her pivot from reality TV to the aforementioned accomplishments is wildly impressive, to say the least.

This episode of Second Life is unique in that we actually got to watch Conrad's previous life and her aspirations to be a fashion designer, as they were well documented in The Hills, including attending FIDM and interning at Teen Vogue. Conrad successfully parlayed those experiences into the line with Kohl's, and in 2013, she and her friend Hannah Skvarla had the idea for The Little Market, a fair-trade home décor marketplace of sorts that works with female artisans all over the world. Conrad told Second Life the reason she started the company: "I got to a point where I felt like I had kind of checked off a lot of my big goals, and I felt really good about where I was at my career. The one thing that I hadn't done is used my platform to make a difference."

She just launched a new collection as part of her LC Lauren Conrad collection at Kohl's, so I went straight to the source to ask her about the new pieces. When I quizzed Conrad about the item she would wear seven days a week, she was quick to highlight her favorite pieces. "I love the sets we designed," she told me. "After a long day, I can't wait to get into something comfortable, but I'd still like to feel good about what I'm wearing. We incorporated a lot of the same feminine details—like modern florals, effortless stripes, smocking, ruffles, and cute prints—that appear in our ready-to-wear line into this sleep line for that reason."

Conrad also called out another piece from the launch: the robes. "I love the robes that we created in my Kohl's LC Lauren Conrad sleep collection," Conrad told Who What Wear. I know, I know—everyone loved The Hills, but what I also know is that no one loved The Hills as much as I did. I grew up in Orange County, California, where I frequently saw the cast of Laguna Beach; was friends with Lauren Conrad's little brother, Brandon; and even went to his birthday party at their old iconic Laguna home (the one with two palm trees), where I met the LC. So yeah, I felt like kind of a big deal. Although I obsessed over all the petty drama, continuously crushed on Steven Colletti despite his minimal presence on the show, and dreamed of interning at Teen Vogue for most of my adolescent life, I can still admit that the fashion on the show was wild and worthy of a good laugh. As we anxiously await the remake of the iconic reality series, I thought it would be fun to take a look back at some of the standout fashion moments throughout the show's run.

I honestly don't think there's a better depiction of just how random the trends of the 2000s were than The Hills. Lauren, Heidi, Whitney, and Audrina faced their SoCal lives clad in extra-long camisoles, round-toe pumps, and plastic headbands of all kinds. As the show was airing, every episode was viewed as an inside glimpse at the scandalous lives of L.A.'s elite, but it was also a mood board for all the items I was going to buy at the mall that weekend. I wore the headbands, I collected those obnoxious plastic bead necklaces, and I begged my mom for a new Juicy Couture tracksuit just about every other week. So, when I playfully poke fun at the fashion during that time below, keep in mind that I also partook in all 15 of the looks you're about to witness. In other words, this story is essentially making fun of myself. Here we go.

1. Cute Cami

While working at Teen Vogue, looking cute was obviously a priority for both Whitney and Lauren. Apparently, impressing her boss, Lisa Love, required a lace ruffled camisole and flared jeans. Bold move.

2. Office Pearls

Was Lauren wearing a string of pearls with that cami? We thought you'd never ask. Here is a close-up shot of her having one of those gut-wrenching conversations in Lisa's office, wearing none other than her favorite strand of pearls.

What is one to do with a light pink babydoll dress when you feel like it just needs a little something extra? Snatch an extremely wide belt around your waist, duh.

Denim miniskirts were to The Hills what Levi's skinny jeans are to 2018—a wardrobe staple worn with just about anything. In this case, "anything" included cotton tank tops and graphic hoodies galore.

When Lauren had a hot date with Jason but nothing to wear, she opted for a statement necklace consisting of black plastic beads and a black LBD. Did I go out and buy beads like that shortly after this episode aired? Who's to say?

Hello, 2018! We all know that January is typically about kick-starting those resolutions. Sometimes they take the form of a lifestyle change, attitude adjustment, or gym routine, but I have something new on my list this year. I’ve been inspired to up my outfit game because let’s face it, when you look good, you feel even better. Let’s all resolve to look and feel our best this year, starting with these next five trends.

Tassels and Fringe

A little embellishment goes a long way, especially if you’re opting to add any tassels and fringe to your ensemble. I love a good tasseled handbag or earrings, and fringe adds something fun to pieces like sweaters and jean hems.

Chic Suiting

This next trend takes being a boss babe to the next level. Dress the part with chic suits. Whether it’s a blazer, a tailored pair of trousers, or a structured blouse, I encourage you to take charge of your wardrobe.

Bold Prints

Bold prints aren’t just reserved for warmer months. Brighten up your winter wardrobe with pops of floral, stripes, and anything else that instantly catches your eye.

Sheer Dresses

Bring on the romance. Sheer dresses add a whimsical touch to any wardrobe and come in so many different varieties.

If I were to describe my daily uniform, it would almost always include a comfortable pair of jeans and some sort of flat shoes. Of course, I can’t resist an opportunity to dress up, especially with the holidays coming up. Being a new mama may require a more relaxed wardrobe, but that doesn’t mean that I have to sacrifice my personal style. Since I have my favorite pairs of jeans on rotation these days, I thought it would be fitting to contribute a column all about them. Today I’m sharing the most flattering jeans to wear with flats—two staples that I think every girl can benefit from having in her closet. Below I’ve chosen three of my go-to jean silhouettes of the moment, plus three flat shoe styles that have proven to be evergreen. Keep scrolling to see what combinations I’ve picked out for you.

Skinnies + Ballet Flats

This combination is at the top of the list for a reason. You can almost always find me in a worn-in pair of skinny jeans and ballet flats. Lately, I’ve been going for a more distressed denim look, but you can never go wrong with a more classic wash. Step-Hem Jeans + Mules

This denim style adds a touch of interest without going overboard, in my opinion. Step-hem jeans are the perfect complement to a comfy and cute pair of mules without getting too trendy. I can see both of these styles lasting well throughout the next year.

Cropped Flares + Loafers

Last but not least, we have the crop denim flare–and-loafer combination. Cropped flares are a more modern take on boot-cut jeans that show just enough ankle. This is the perfect opportunity to show off some pretty shoes like the loafers I chose below.

Defining your signature style is not an easy feat. I’ve fallen victim to fashion crazes that make me look back and cringe, and it’s taken years to truly refine my own wardrobe. Trends come and go in the blink of an eye, and while they’re fun for a season, it’s kind of depressing to see all that money go into the giveaway pile. I don’t turn away from trendy pieces altogether, but I have learned to choose au courant styles that I know will become classics. In today’s column, I’m addressing five items that are true keepers. From chic ladylike handbags to staple blazers, these pieces have already held their own in the fashion world, and I know that they will continue to do so.

Ladylike Satchels

When it comes to timeless silhouettes, a sturdy yet ladylike satchel takes the cake. Available in all different sizes, you can guarantee that this handbag trend will be around for years to come. I’m such a fan that I had to design my own version in my latest LC Lauren Conrad handbag collection.

Sweaterdresses

There are few things more comfortable than a sweaterdress. This look is also more versatile than you’d think. Layer them under your favorite coat, pair them with a bold pair of over-the-knee boots, or keep it minimal with dainty jewelry and a statement handbag. Either way, you can’t go wrong with a sweaterdress.

Peacoats

An on-trend piece that you can always guarantee to find in my closet is a classic peacoat. If there’s one outwear silhouette that has proven to withstand the test of time, it’s this one. I tend to keep mine more neutral, but the olive-green option below has certainly caught my eye.

Loafers

Gone are the days of running around in heels for hours on end. My shoe game has gotten considerably more comfortable over the years, and timeless loafers will always be right on trend.

Cat-Eye Sunglasses

This list wouldn’t be the same without a sunglass mention. While you can usually find me in my favorite pair of Ray-Ban aviators, the runner-up has to be oversize cat-eye sunglasses. There’s something effortlessly chic and feminine that I just love about this silhouette.

Where were you on October 13, 2008? Well, that was the day Us Weekly's Style Issue came out on newsstands, featuring a trio of It girls: Taylor Swift, Hilary Duff, and Lauren Conrad. At the time, Swift was just 18 years old, Duff was 20, and Conrad was the oldest at 22. If they seem like an unlikely group, you're definitely on to something: We couldn't find any photos of the trio together post-2008, making this throwback cover all the more iconic.

The images show just how much their style has evolved since then: Swift was still in her cowboy-boots-and-curly-hair phase, Conrad wore a bubble-hem minidress, and Duff wore a long tank top with skinny leather pants. Although their outfits are more mature these days—Conrad and Duff are moms now after all—we couldn't resist looking back at their cute style from nine years ago.

"But this year, I found myself with a little less time on my hands (I'm sure my fellow new mothers can relate…), so I opted for a less time consuming costume," Conrad wrote. "I still put together this costume myself, but all of the individual pieces can be purchased—no sewing skills required." Time to start searching for a faux-fur coat of your own.

The Veuve Clicquot Polo Classic, hosted at the Will Rogers Polo Club in Pacific Palisades, was the place to be in Los Angeles over the weekend. If I had to choose one article of clothing to wear for the rest of my life, it would be the perfect pair of jeans. Because of my undying love for denim, I’ve been pretty excited to see the revival of trends I thought I’d never see on the rack again. Blue jeans will never go out of style, even though the lengths and washes might change from season to season. So far in 2017, my closet has gained quite a few pairs, and today I thought I’d share some of my favorites with all of you lovely Who What Wear readers. In this post, I will be showing you which ankle boots complement each pair of jeans, making outfit-planning that much easier.

Skinnies + Ankle Boots

The first combination on the list is classic skinny jeans and ankle boots. Since a good pair of skinnies is fairly simple, you have the freedom to get a little edgier with your ankle boots. I suggest going for boots with some embellishment like buckles, texture, or lace-up details. You really can’t go wrong.

Cropped Flares + Ankle Boots

Next up, I’ve picked out an assortment of cropped jeans and ankle boots. Cropped jeans can sometimes give you the illusion of having shorter legs, so my advice is to always pair these pants with a heeled bootie. That way, you aren’t losing any inches and your legs will actually look longer.

Distressed Denim + Ankle Boots

The last combination that I have for you today is distressed denim and flat or low-heeled ankle boots. Since there are so many great jeans out there right now with raw hems and perfectly placed rips and tears, you should let your pants do all the talking. Each pair of pants below has a chic pair of low-to-the-ground ankle boots to complement them. I can’t decide which combo I love more!

One trend that I’m particularly excited about has to be the rise of pink. I’ve always been a pink girl myself, and I love being able to shop all of the different hues and styles. One piece that I’ve been wearing over and over again this season is my Paper Crown Cologne Jacket. I swear it goes with everything in my closet!

Ruffles

Ruffles are on the horizon for the upcoming year, and I could not be more excited. There’s nothing more romantic than a ruffled detail, whether it’s on a fancy frock or a feminine blouse. You can bet that I’ll be incorporating this trend into my own wardrobe in more ways than one.

Bold Stripes

It’s true that fashion repeats itself, and these bold ’70s-inspired stripes are the perfect example. From turtlenecks to dresses to T-shirts, there’s no wrong way to sport a stripe. These are just a few of the many pieces that I’ve had my eye on…

Mules

Say hello to the one shoe that’s dominating my closet. Mules in all varieties are taking over the fashion world, and I’m pretty smitten with them. Mule slides are my favorite way to wear this trend, especially with the faux-fur lining. My feet can use a little extra warmth this time of year!

Sleeve Interest

Similar to the ruffle trend I just covered, interesting sleeves have been making quite an impact. Whether it’s bell, cold shoulder, or incorporating some kind of ruffle detail, no top is complete this season without a little embellishment.

My favorite way to stay warm and toasty during the cooler months has to be layering. The key to layering is to start light—that way it’s easier to remove pieces throughout the day if you get too hot. That being said, I always start with a layering turtleneck. Chic on its own or under your favorite pastel coat, this is one item that you’ll be glad you stocked up on.

Lucky for people like me, pastel is a coveted trend for yet another season. My love for the soft hues is evergreen, and I’m glad the fashion world agrees. For the fall and winter seasons, you can bet I’ll be wearing my favorite Paper Crown pastel coat just about everywhere. These next few options are just as gorgeous.

Chic and Warm Hats

One trend that I’ve had my eye on for winter has to be warm beanies. There are so many adorable styles with cute embellishments this year! You can’t go wrong with cable knit or a cute little pom-pom. Don’t brave the winter weather without one of these chic and warm hats.

Leather Pants

I challenge you to add a little edge to your winter wardrobe. Leather pants instantly elevate any outfit and can be easily worn from day to evening. Pair them with your favorite moto jacket or breezy blouse, depending on your mood.

I have a love/hate relationship with the airport. Traveling is fun and exciting, and you can’t do that without the airport. But the process of going through airport security is anything but fun and exciting. Luckily, as a frequent flier, I’ve come up with a few tricks to make getting through airport security lines a little less painful. And believe it or not, so much of it has to do with what you wear. It can be hard to strike the balance between chic, comfortable, and TSA-friendly, but I have it down to a science. Between jetting off to monthly design meetings in NYC for my LC Lauren Conrad line, traveling abroad to meet artisans for The Little Market, and of course the occasional much-needed vacation, I’ve had my fair share of practice putting together airport ensembles. And since I know many of you are traveling this time of year as well, I thought I’d share my perfect airport outfit formula.

Comfortable T-Shirt

Never underestimate the power of having a perfect tee in your wardrobe. A T-shirt with a flattering cut will allow you to keep things comfy and casual while still looking stylish. My favorite tees tend to have a relaxed fit and a soft, thin material. Solid, neutral colors and stripes are both extremely versatile. And as cute as cropped styles are, I recommend sticking to a longer silhouette for the airport if it would bother you to bare your midriff when you’re asked to raise your arms up in the security line.

Stretch Skinny Jeans

Stretchy skinny jeans (aka jeggings) are an important piece of my airport uniform. The fact that they have a lot of stretch makes them comfy on the plane, but they are much more acceptable to wear in public than sweatpants. I’m all for feeling comfortable on a long flight, but I don’t condone wearing your pajamas in public!

Slip-On Sneakers

Ballet flats used to be my go-to shoe for airport security purposes. But walking through the security line barefoot isn’t exactly ideal. So with all the chic styles available lately, my current shoe of choice is a slip-on sneaker. They’re just as easy to get on and off, but you can wear them with socks—which means no need to worry about grimy airport floors or chilly toes on the flight.

Leather Jacket

A jacket is a must on chilly flights. I always opt for styles with pockets to store my boarding pass, phone, and passport for easy access during boarding. A jacket is also easier to slip off when you go through the body scan than a pullover sweater is. Military-style jackets also work well, but lately, I’m all about the suede or leather moto jacket.

Blanket Scarf

You can’t beat a big, cozy scarf to keep you warm or even act as a makeshift pillow or blanket on the plane. Bonus points if it’s a cashmere blend, like the Madeleine Thompson pick below…

Chic Sunglasses

Let’s face it… it can be hard to pull together a full face of makeup for an early morning flight or long red-eye. That’s why I always make sure to have my sunnies close at hand to camouflage my lack of sleep or makeup.

Minimal Jewelry

The airport security line is no place for loads of chunky jewelry that you’ll have to remove before you walk through the metal detector. Leave the heavy metal at home, ladies, and instead, opt for delicate pieces.

When it comes to denim styles, Lauren Conrad usually keeps things classic with skinny jeans. That said, it doesn't mean she's opposed to mixing things up. She just took to her website to wax poetic about fall's biggest denim trends, and she seems particularly fond of one fresh style in particular. Embroidered denim has been everywhere as of late, and the pretty trend is right in keeping with Conrad's cool, feminine style. She says of the trend, "One denim trend that I’m particularly smitten on is embroidery. I think an embroidered floral detail on a pocket or down one of the legs is sweet and feminine with a little bit of edge."

We too have had our eye on the trend and have noticed that embroidered jeans are quickly selling out across the board, with more and more brands jumping on the bandwagon. Not sure how to style the trend? We suggest letting them shine by keeping the rest of your outfit simple—e.g., a solid-colored tee, sweater, or turtleneck and a pair of on-trend white ankle boots.

Lauren Conrad's newest collection at Kohl's just dropped in stores and online, but it's probably not the first time you've seen the pretty pieces. Back in June, Conrad herself wore the line's Double-Breasted Blazer ($53) and Satin Full-Length Gown ($48) at one of the biggest fashion events of the year: the CFDA Awards. It's not often a celebrity wears a $100 outfit on the red carpet, but that's what we love about Conrad's collection: the accessibility of her stylish designs. Lauren Conrad has proven herself an invaluable source of style inspiration over the years. She knows what works for her and always looks comfortable and confident in what she's wearing. And isn't that the ultimate sartorial goal?

Conrad's most recent musings are especially timely. In celebration of her latest LC Lauren Conrad Collection for Kohl’s, Conrad shared with PeopleStyle some of her thoughts about fall trends, and how to approach trends in general. This fall, Conrad advises investing in velvet, which is arguably the biggest trend of the season. She says about the fabric, "I love that special luxe feel. It’s also comfortable.” Fittingly, her fall collection includes a velvet blazer, babydoll dress, vest, and pants. 

More generally speaking, when it comes to trends, Conrad lives by two rules in particular, the first one being to not wear something just because it's trendy. She cites two major trends in particular as examples, saying "I still stand strong on the Birkenstock. I just couldn’t do it. I thought some people looked really cute in them. I looked like a fool. And I keep seeing girls in chokers and I’m like, 'Oh god.'" She also advises to not be afraid to retire pieces that you wore in the past, i.e. the headscarves that she was loyal to during her days on The Hills.

Lauren Conrad took to her blog to announce news of a second LC Lauren Conrad Runway Collection. Last year, the designer showed her limited-edition line in NYC, but this year she’ll be showcasing it with a weeklong pop-up store at the Americana at Brand in Glendale, California. Lauren won’t be unveiling the designs until next week, just in time for her store’s opening, but we spoke with her, and shoppers can expect vintage-inspired designs and her signature feminine aesthetic. The line will range in price from $14 to $269, and there is also a solid selection of handbags, jewelry, and footwear.

While the collection is available online, the store is the only place you’ll see the pieces IRL, and it’s a great chance to try them on before you order (you’ll get free shipping if you place your order in-store). You might even bump into Lauren herself, who will be working at the store throughout the week. The pop-up will be open September 8–15, and you can book an appointment for your visit right now.

WHO WHAT WEAR: This is your second pop-up shop. What do you like about this particular shopping experience?

LAUREN CONRAD: I love the idea of creating a weeklong event celebrating the launch of this line. Because the runway collection is appearing primarily online, this will be the only chance for customers to come experience the entire collection in person. I also enjoy meeting everyone as they shop the line. It’s a great opportunity to get feedback and see what customers are reacting to and what they would like to see more of.

WWW: Why Los Angeles?

LC: I wanted to have the pop-up in Los Angeles for a couple reasons. The LC Lauren Conrad line has always been a very California brand. It’s in our DNA, and so much of the design is inspired by the L.A. lifestyle. Also, last year we celebrated the debut in New York with a runway show, so I wanted to bring it to the West Coast this time around so more of our customers could enjoy the collection.

WWW: What is the overall theme of this collection? What kinds of pieces can we expect to see?

LC: This year’s collection is just as romantic as last year’s, but in a much different way. It includes a variety of luxe fabrications with a much deeper color palette. This collection includes many elevated items for special occasions, as well as unique pieces that can be incorporated into your everyday wardrobe.

WWW: Can you tell us a little about the design inspiration behind this space?

LC: We wanted to create a backdrop that complements the clothing but doesn’t overshadow them. We want customers to feel transported while shopping and really create a special experience for them.

WWW: Is there an item you predict will fly off the shelves?

LC: If last year’s collection was any indication, then the layering pieces and the specialty dresses are always the first to go. We brought back one of my favorite pieces from last year—a faux suede moto jacket with rose-gold hardware—in some beautiful new colors. I think it’s going to sell out again pretty quickly!

It's been a decade since Lauren Conrad, then known as "LC," took the 405 from Laguna Beach to Los Angeles in her convertible to embark on the life-changing journey known as The Hills. And in honor of the popular MTV show's 10th anniversary, the network aired a 45-minute special titled That Was Then, This is Now, starring Lauren and detailed some revealing secrets from the series.

We found out that MTV producers had already set up Lauren's Teen Vogue internship, so the interview she had with West Coast Director Lisa Love was just for the cameras. However, she was grateful for the opportunity and said of the process, "I never assumed anything was mine." We also discovered that when Lauren finally said yes to Paris, the dreamy Parisian man who whisked her away on his motorcycle was actually a random person producers had picked out, and Lauren had zero interest in him (again, all for the cameras).

The biggest surprise, though, had nothing to do with Lauren. MTV surfaced unaired footage of Heidi and Spencer's apartment-warming party where Kim Kardashian was a guest. Yup! Heidi shows Kim around the apartment and shows off the couple's fish tank that housed "the only jellyfish in America." It's not that shocking that the Pratts would cross paths with Kim, since Spencer's BFF was Kim's stepbrother/Lauren's boyfriend at the time, Brody Jenner—but we can't believe MTV held out on us for 10 whole years!

Of course, major fans of The Hills have been counting down the days until the 10th-anniversary special on MTV, airing this weekend. But if you just can't wait a few more days, you're in luck: Lauren Conrad sat down with Teen Vogue for a new interview, wherein she dished lots of juicy tidbits about the show and what to expect from the anniversary special.

In the new interview, Conrad revealed the secret to the show's behind-the-scenes success. "Some of the producers [who] I felt like were not sympathetic towards me, they got some of the best storylines," Conrad told Teen Vogue. "They were able to separate themselves. Sometimes that feels cold. You're like: 'Oh, why would you put me in this vulnerable state on camera?!' But that does make for the best television."

She went on to say that she would not be interested in producing reality TV, because she doesn't share that trait. "I don't think I would be a really good producer, because I would be too sympathetic," she told the magazine. All we can say is we simply cannot wait for the anniversary show to get even more insider info.

When celebrities hit the red carpet in sky-high heels, you can usually bet that as soon as they're off the step-and-repeat, they're kicking off the stilettos. But, thanks to genius celebrity stylist Neil J. Rodgers (who has worked with everyone from Beyoncé to Gisele Bündchen), that's all changing. Though his eponymous brand launches today, stars including Mila Kunis, Jane Fonda, and Lauren Conrad have already been spotted in the classic designs.

"I think that is a true testament to the comfort and versatility of the line."

I’m here to tell you that while I’m a fan of the look, pulling off leggings in a fashion-forward way is a bit tricky, but not impossible. Leggings, like most trends, can look great if done tastefully. I personally love to throw on a pair of leggings if I have to run errands, take a long flight, or when I’m doing something active. If you’re stumped on how to pull off the legging look, I’ve put together a few simple rules to help you decide when and where it’s appropriate to flaunt your favorite pair. Here are some conditions that I think we should go over…

Leggings do not always qualify as a replacement for pants. Yes, you can choose to wear leggings to the airport (who wants to wear jeans on a five-hour flight?), the grocery store, and especially to the gym. But don’t think of pulling on your favorite pair for a day at the office. Walking into a meeting looking anything but formal or business casual is a big no-no. Shy away from wearing leggings anywhere near a professional environment. A relaxed, casual setting is the only place your leggings should make an appearance.

There’s nothing worse than a pair of leggings that feel like they’re suffocating you from the waist down. If they don’t fit like they’re supposed to, I suggest taking a trip to your nearest department store. I’m a fan of high-waisted and cropped leggings because I feel that they better suit my figure. Knowing your body and personal style will help make your shopping trip that much easier. Don’t be afraid to try them on until you find the perfect pair!

My motto for most things in life is to keep it simple. From my wardrobe to my home décor, I love pieces that make a statement without getting too loud or lost in translation. That being said, bright colors and bold patterns are absolutely welcome in the gym. When it comes to wearing your leggings as daywear, however, stick to more simple details such as zippers, bows, ripped knees, and other simple touches like these ones…

Believe it or not, leggings are some of my favorite pieces to style. Since they’re as versatile as it gets, it’s fun to layer on seasonal trends. Try pairing your leggings with a breezy, printed blouse on warmer days or with some fun gym shoes when you’re out and about. Leather and jean jackets are always a flattering option and can carry you into just about any season. Don’t be afraid to experiment!

With January in full swing, I’m sure many of you have had some time to write out your resolutions (and begin accomplishing them, too). Speaking of resolutions, this year I’m making a promise to myself to add some more fun pieces to my wardrobe. I’ve done some research on 2016 fashion trends, and so far I love what I’m seeing. Let’s just say I’ll be adding quite a few of the items below to my shopping cart! From slip dresses to mixed metallics, here are the trends I’m predicting to be big in 2016… Happy shopping!

A slinky, silky slip dress is all you need to feel sexy. It’s as simple as that. I’ve been seeing this feminine silhouette pop up here and there lately, and I know it’s only going to get more and more popular as the year goes on. Invest in a classic black style, one with a pop of color, or a pretty gold metallic version.

Bell sleeve tops are fun to wear with shorts, pencil skirts, and your favorite pair of jeans. And they’re on the fashion forecast for 2016! I’m loving the red, white, and printed styles below. It’s all in the little details…

I love wearing metallics in any way, shape, or form. So when I saw that mixed metallics are in this year, I started pulling all of my shiny, shimmery pieces out of my closet to prepare. Rock this trend by combining hints of metallics in your shoes, bag, clothes, and even nail polish.

While the heeled mule had its moment in 2015, this year, it’s all about the flat mule. This slip-on style is so easy to wear with cuffed or cropped jeans, and it gives off those effortlessly cool model-off-duty vibes. Slide into a leopard, velvet, suede, or black tasseled pair to get the look.

There’s something about the texture of suede that makes me feel like I’m transported right back to the 1970s. This year, suede button-down skirts, jackets, and accessories continue to be all the rage. You can wear these pieces with a bit of boho flair or create a streamlined look by pairing your suede pieces with classic silhouettes.

There’s nothing more ladylike than a dress or top that has pretty pleats. In my opinion, wearing a light and airy pleated piece feels special. So, you can imagine my excitement when I found out that pleated pieces are predicted to be big this year, especially in the spring. Capitalize on this trend by adding pretty dresses and lightweight tops to your wardrobe.

It seems that 2016 is taking a style cue from the ’70s! If you couldn’t get your flower child fix from the fringe and suede pieces I already have on this list, then this next trend is for you. The romantic, flowy maxi dress is a gorgeous silhouette, and it can be styled so many ways. I love each of the styles below paired with some heeled booties and a crossbody bag for a breezy look.

We're just going to say it: Lauren Conrad is the celebrity queen of Halloween. You might think it's Heidi Klum, with her extravagant annual costume party, or Kim Kardashian, with her unwavering dedication to continuing to come up with creative ways to wear a skin-tight leotard. But no. It's Lauren Conrad. And we have nine very good reasons why.

Conrad is as dedicated to Halloween as she is to making every aspect of her life as chic as possible—and her dedicated goes all the way back to her childhood. She always makes her own costume, and it usually turns out obscenely well. This year, we've learned, Conrad is going as a mermaid. Not the most original idea on the planet, but the way she put it together (which you can check out on her blog) really takes it to the next level.

Conrad also went as "Baby...One More Time"-era Britney Spears to another event in 2011.

In 2012, Conrad went as a very convincing Mary Poppins.

There might be some modern trends that folks of yore could never have envisioned—people really wear sneakers with dresses, to dinner?!—but there are a few holdovers from the Golden Age that are still kickin’. First and foremost: the classical system of labelling invites to events with certain dress codes. For us modern women, this ancient system of codes can be quite confusing—after all, we’re used to wearing our sneakers to dinner!

To help you navigate the landmine that is black tie, creative black tie, business formal, and beyond, we’ve deconstructed the 10 most oft-used dress codes for you. You’ll never wonder what to wear to any event ever again!

A black-tie event is the epitome of a formal event. Cocktail-length dresses are only allowed if they are extremely dressy and sleek.

What To Wear: A formal, floor-length gown is preferred. Also allowed: a dressy cocktail dress or your best LBD paired with fancier jewellery, which will elevate the overall look.

A black-tie-optional event is still dressy, but not as strict. In other words, you can wear a formal evening gown, but no one will look at you twice if you choose to wear a cocktail dress.

What To Wear: A formal floor-length evening gown, fancier cocktail dress, a tux-style pantsuit, or LBD.

This is a professional look that isn’t overly dressy. Think: something you could definitely wear to the office (i.e., on the conservative side) but would feel comfortable wearing to grab a work drink.

What To Wear: An open-collar shirt or sweater, with a pencil skirt or trousers. You can also wear a dress, as long as it’s not provocative.

Imagine what you would wear if you were giving a very important presentation at work. That’s essentially how you should dress for a business casual event.

What To Wear: A tailored, polished dress with a blazer, or a pantsuit. Whatever you wear, style it with appropriate heels. This is not the time for flats or super-high club shoes.

Your average brunch look.

What To Wear: A skirt (either long or short) and plain tee, nice jeans with a button-down blouse, or a cotton sundress. Flats are fine.

Mother Denim

Think: black tie with some breathing room. Still formal and dressy, but with a smidge of playfulness thrown in.

What To Wear: A dressy cocktail dress, floor-length evening gown, or LBD, plus fun and unique accessories.

Think: Olivia Palermo on just about any given day. A look that is casual, but not at all lazy or frumpy.

What To Wear: A dressy blouse with jeans and heels, a skirt and top set, a crisp pantsuit, or a dress. Flats are acceptable as long as they are not overtly casual (i.e., no sneakers).

As the name suggests, a semiformal event is just that: semi formal. It’s certainly still dressy, but not as much so as a black-tie-optional event.

What To Wear: A cocktail dress, LBD, floor-length skirt and blouse in appropriate fabrics, like silk, or dressy separates. You can also wear a long dress if you wish.

This is the most extravagant of all the dress codes—perhaps that’s why this year’s Met Gala utilised it. Think: full ball gown, elbow-length gloves, and all your best jewellery.

What To Wear: A floor-length evening gown (mandatory), gloves (optional), and your best jewellery. Your dress should incorporate luxe fabrications, like lace, silk, and chiffon. 

As the name suggests, this is a dressy event that is still meant to be primarily social and enjoyable.

What To Wear: A cocktail dress (obviously), LBD, or a shorts suit in more formal fabrications, plus a sleek pair of heels. Flats are not recommended, but can work in certain situations.

If you’re anything like us, by the time Friday rolls around, your arsenal of outfit ideas is pretty much tapped out for the week. Luckily, the sartorially casual nature of the final day of the work week allows the opportunity to shake things up a bit. So put away the pencil skirts and pumps and try a fresh new look this Friday.
