During a red carpet interview, entertainment-industry legend Suzanne de Passe reflects on the moment she knew Laura Harrier should portray her in Michael, the Michael Jackson biopic that officially hit theaters on April 24. "I saw her sitting across [from me], and she reminded me of me," she tells Entertainment Tonight. "It wasn't intellectual. It was energetic." I won't pretend to have even a shred of de Passe's gift for recognizing talent (she discovered the Jackson 5 back in 1968 and played an integral role in shaping Diana Ross's solo career in the '70s), but I can confirm that the actress's energy is downright magnetic—even on Zoom nearly 3000 miles away.

Harrier is warm and witty from the jump as we gush over getting-ready moments complete with a plate of chicken tenders ("My go-to glam order," she tells me) washed down with a glass of champagne. "I love having a girl team. It works out like that a lot with my glam. We're playing music, spilling tea, laughing. … It's always a fun vibe," she says. As we continue to chat about her day leading up to the film's L.A. premiere, including her event beauty staples and funniest going-out memory (spoiler: it involves a tiny bag and a man diving into the pool on her behalf), I can't help but think I'd fit right in. Since the theater wasn't too far from her home, Harrier invited the girls over to get ready—celebrity makeup artist Nina Park and hairstylist Irinel de León, who also served as DJ. "She was playing a lot of fun Afrobeats, which I really love. Burna Boy, Wizkid, stuff like that," Harrier shares.

A Nina Park glam session is my number one beauty-editor dream, so of course, I had to follow up with all my burning makeup questions. What was the inspiration? Any references they loved? What was Park's process? "With Nina, we rarely do inspos, as crazy as that sounds," Harrier reveals. "Sometimes before a big event, she'll map out a face chart of what she wants to do. She physically paints my face on pieces of paper. We just discuss it over more as opposed to looking at a specific reference of other people's work." This makes sense. After all, Park's signature work is the ultimate reference, inspiring an entire movement of lived-in, toasted complexions and blurry, cool-toned lips.

For the Michael premiere, the muse was none other than Harrier herself, as Park took inspiration from the actress's everyday glam. "She was looking at the photo from my fitting with my stylist, Danielle Goldberg, and was like, 'I love this lip that you had on here. What makeup were you wearing?'" Harrier recounts. "She takes these really natural moments and amps them up, which I think is the genius of her talent. She'll make you look like the best version of yourself, but it never feels heavy or costumey."

The lip in question turned out to be a sculpted, brown-toned gloss courtesy of YSL's Kiss Shaper Lip Liner in Cocoa Flirt and Loveshine Lip Oil Stick in Melted Honey, both of which Harrier tossed into her bag before heading to the premiere. "I always take my lip with me," she shares, noting that she also loves the brand's Candy Glaze Lip Gloss. "I have every color." From there, she'll make sure to bring a setting powder—YSL's All Hours Hyper Blur Loose Setting Powder—just "in case [she] gets shiny on the carpet" as well as a disposable spoolie to fluff up her brows.

She doesn't keep a travel-size fragrance on her at all times ("I'm always impressed with those people," she quips), though she does apply a generous amount of Coqui Coqui's Coco Coco Eau de Parfum before hitting the road. "I went to their shop when I was in the Yucatán, this tiny little town outside of Merida," she shares. "I douse myself before I leave the house [and] just let it dissipate throughout the day."

It's a smart technique for perfume longevity considering there's not much else Harrier can fit into her beloved mini bags—not even a one-milliliter sample. "I didn't take any photos in it, but [at the premiere], I had this little vintage gold mesh bag that felt on-brand for Michael. It was sparkly and gold," she tells me. Her usual bag of choice, Saint Laurent's Mini Le 5 à 7, is just as petite. "I just love a tiny bag, to the point of annoyance where my phone never fits," she laughs. "I actually wore it to a party the other day. I hugged somebody, and my phone fell in the pool because it was sticking out of the bag. This man had to go and fish out my phone from the pool for me, all because I chose to wear a bag that my phone doesn't fit in. It's not practical, but it's really cute." Sigh. Believe it or not, it's time to start thinking about winter. Specifically, it's time to start thinking about what we're going to wear this winter. If you’ve got any travel plans in the diary over the next few months, listen up: I’ve found the trouser trend that delivers the comfort of leggings and the polish of your favourite tailored pair, all rolled into one. If you'll be navigating airport security, enduring a long-haul flight, or heading straight from plane to pavement, these promise to make your journey significantly chicer.

Delivering my inspiration, Laura Harrier departed Venice Film Festival, wearing a pair of deep black pull-on trousers. Arguably chicer than the leggings we've all grown accustomed to travelling in, Harrier reminded me that travel attire can still feel polished.

We've all seen low-rise jeans return, along with their distant cousin, skinny jeans, thanks to the Y2K resurgence over the last few years. What you may not know is that low-rise skirts are on the rise now. Silk and satin bias-cut skirts are always all the rage during summer, but they're returning in a new form this summer.

Actress Laura Harrier was spotted in Paris heading to dinner with her bestie Lori Harvey in a chic and skin-baring, low-waisted skirt and bandeau set from the Courrèges spring/summer 2025 collection, paired with white heeled flip-flops (the perfect summer outfit).

Having made its way into the suitcases of two of my favourite style icons, Sofia Richie-Grainge and Laura Harrier, I'm finally convinced that my swimwear rotation should start and end with a leopard-print bikini.

An itsy-bitsy bikini splattered with one of the season's favourite motifs, it's no surprise the style set are invigorating their swimwear collections with this enduring trend right now. Riffing off the wider leopard print movement that's seen pretty minidresses and chic denim adorned with the animal print come to the fore over the past 12 months, this summer-ready evolution feels perfectly in tune with the new-season mood.

As much as jeans are a staple of my wardrobe, they're just not what I reach for when I want to look polished. That being said, I've come to realise that, with the right shoe pairing, even the slouchiest of denim can feel entirely elevated. Over the past few months, I’ve been reaching less for my baggy jeans and more for straight-leg styles—they simply align better with the polished energy I’ve been trying to channel. As much as I love the comfort of swishy denim, lately they’ve started to feel a little too slouchy for everyday wear. Just as I was settling into this denim rut, I spotted Laura Harrier out wearing the denim trend I once deemed too casual—but styling them in a way that felt distinctly elevated way.

Naturally, the difference lies in the shoes. Rather than defaulting to the casual flip-flops or understated trainers I typically pair with slouchy denim, Harrier gave hers a polished twist with glossy leather loafers. With a structured design and inherently preppy energy, the glossy loafers added an air of refinement that elevated the denim, without feeling out of place.

From there, she kept the rest of the outfit simple yet considered: a crisp white T-shirt, a neatly fitted suede jacket layered on top and a woven chocolate-brown bag to finish. They're also not wearing skinny jeans in a particular way when they could wear any other style and look 10 times chicer. It's just not done here, especially by people with expensive taste. Don't believe me? Just ask Dakota Johnson and Laura Harrier, who were both in Manhattan last week wearing roughly the same denim outfit without a pair of skinny jeans in sight.

Making a suede jacket look cool is about the easiest thing anyone in New York or elsewhere can do when it comes to fashion. It's normal to see one or two celebrities wearing the same thing. Trends hit their wardrobes, too—hell, many get their start there. It's not quite as standard for three to don the same thing. So, when I saw that Laura Harrier, Hailey Bieber, and Kaia Gerber were all basically donning the same outfit within the span of just a few weeks, all while in Los Angeles, my interest was piqued. What has so many A-listers who could have anything they could ever want so enthralled that they'd wear the same trend, from the same brand, in fact, again and again?

Maybe it's that stylish French women have loved them for over 50 years, or perhaps it's due to their genuinely comfortable fit and timeless aesthetic, but Repetto's cult-favorite Cendrillon and Camille ballet flats have taken over the L.A. street style scene, with the city's chicest inhabitants being among the biggest repeat wearers.

Harrier was the most recent Angeleno to wear the beloved flats, styling her patent-leather Cendrillon flats with a pair of cropped black trousers, a black camisole, a brown leather bomber jacket, and a Coach Tabby bag. She finished off the look with a Tiffany & Co. bean pendant necklace designed by Elsa Peretti and black sunglasses. What makes her shoe choice so perfect is the effortlessness of it all. At the same time, she still looks sophisticated and chic—no heels required.

Days before Harrier debuted her off-duty look, Bieber wore a very similar ensemble for a casual lunch date with a friend at Beverly Glen Deli. For the occasion, she wore a leather bomber jacket that she is designing, per her Instagram (the brand is allegedly called Skylrk), with low-rise Gimaguas kick-flare pants, a black camisole, and the heeled version of Harrier's Repetto ballet flats, called the Camille pumps. The short, 1.25" heel adds just the right amount of height to dress up a look, without becoming painful or overly formal.

Gerber, on the other hand, switched up the rest of her look, passing on the camisole-and–bomber-jacket combo Bieber and Harrier chose, and instead, opting for a simple black sweater and tote bag (hers was Paloma Wool). I arrived at the Who What Wear UK office this morning to the realisation that the satin miniskirt trend is taking off right now.

Styled by two of my chicest colleagues—who act as my in-office trend radar—I suspected I'd landed upon something special. Confirming my suspicions, a quick scroll through Instagram led me to the inimitably chic Laura Harrier, who has also put her weight behind the trend. So far, all signs are indicating a key spring trend.

Stepping out after the Miu Miu autumn/winter 2025 runway show—in which the actor walked a cream satin minidress and a glossy pair of pointed-toe heels down the runway for the House—Harrier slipped into a two-piece that championed my new favourite skirt trend. We've seen midi and maxi satin skirts rule city streets for a while now, but this shorter, more playful cut hasn't broken through until now.

A little less serious than the pencil skirt trend that was reinvigorated by the "office siren" aesthetic, this elegant iteration welcomes movement and sheen into an outfit, leaving it with a lighter, brighter finish that feels just as polished.

Alongside my stylish colleagues and Laura Harrier, I've noticed that a third fashion heavyweight has also adopted the trend. My favourite French influencer, Anne-Laure Mais, styled her light-cream skirt with a roomy jumper (pictured above) to weave a more casual energy into the pretty look. Style Notes: Beauty and utility combined, Dior's D-Journey is arguably the most versatile in the brand's collection. I'd wear this dreamy style on my shoulder, however, I equally love how Elsa Hosk has adjusted the strap to turn it into a hands-free crossbody bag (pictured above), proving just how practical it is.

7. Gucci Horsebit 1955

Style Notes: The Gucci Horsebit 1955 clearly isn't a new bag, with its popularity spanning over 70 years. But that doesn't mean it won't continue to reign as one of the most coveted bags in 2025. In fact, at Gucci's FW25 runway show the iconic style was re-invented in the beautiful suede green shade (shown on Yara Shahidi) above to celebrate the bag's 70th anniversary. Although this version isn't yet available, there are still many different colours and patterns you can buy right now.

Style Notes: Arguably the most coveted and undeniably the most popular handbag ever, the Birkin is going nowhere in 2025.
