Welcome to The Glowdown, our new beauty series where we'll be diving into the beauty secrets of our favourite celebrities. We're putting them on the beauty hot seat with our quick-fire round of questions to find out the products they cannot live without, their skincare secrets and the beauty tips and tricks they have picked up along the way.

This month, we're talking to Australian supermodel Lara Worthington. As the first global ambassador for skincare brand Emma Lewisham, she's spilling her beauty secrets with us below.

1. Which makeup product gives you the biggest mood boost? I love blush; it’s the one product that will lift my face. Cream textures are my favorite. I’m using Westman Atelier Baby Cheeks Blush Stick in shade Dou Dou. I like to pop it around my eye sockets, too.

2. If you could steal someone else’s makeup bag, whose would it be? My friend Rosie Huntington-Whiteley. She is so incredibly knowledgeable on beauty and wellness.

3. You’ve got a spot. Are you team pop it or team leave it alone? The short answer is pop it. Popping pimples is so tempting. I know when to stop so that I can minimize any scarring. I use pure tea tree oil for breakouts. I do not mask enough, but Emma Lewisham’s Supernatural Sleeping Mask is the best; it works whilst you sleep to rebuild your skin’s barrier. Emma Lewisham is a genius.

4. You only have one product to use for the rest of your life—what is it? My absolute favorite product that I’d happily only use for the rest of my life is Emma Lewisham’s Skin Reset Serum. I have noticed real improvements in pigmentation, fine lines and my skin’s hydration. I love the texture!

5. What’s the best piece of beauty advice that you have ever received? Growing up, my mum was very strict about sunscreen application—even in the early '90s when a golden tan was the pinnacle of youth and a well-lived life. She always instilled that good sun protection is the most important thing you can do to preserve your skin.

6. It’s a bad hair day, what do you do? I’d reach for hair oil and just tie it back, turn it in to a treatment day.

7. What is your signature fragrance? I’ve worn fragrance every day since I was very young. I actually collected perfume bottles in high school. I have a lot of beautiful bottles. I’ve been wearing Christian Dior Bois d’Argent for many years. I quite like just having once fragrance throughout your life.

8. Strong lip or a strong eye? If I’m going to do anything really, I’m going to mess around with my lips. My favorite is the La Bouche Rouge Chloë Sevigny lipstick; it’s the perfect mix between vibrant red and orange. Sometimes I do a dark red, and for that, I like Dior Rouge Dior 760. I like lipsticks that you don’t have to get too perfect.

9. You’re having your nails done, what’s your go-to colour? I like the idea of being unmanicured, that’s kind of sexy. But when I’m working, it’s usually OPI Samoan Sand or clear polish. Sometimes to lighten the polish, I add some base coat and mix the two together. I learnt that on TikTok.

10. What is your beauty philosophy in a sentence? I think it’s the inner workings of yourself that can make you look beautiful and feel beautiful. My approach to beauty has always been about building layers from within. I’m really into a holistic approach: diet, acupuncture, a hot bath or infrared sauna, and using the outdoors as medicine—I love ocean swims the most.

11. What is your favourite lipstick colour? The Liplacq from Isamaya beauty is my new favorite lip product! It tingles on the lips and plumps them significantly. 

12. Candles, reed diffusers or nothing at all? I am such a homebody, home fragrances brings me a sense of comfort and warmth. I like Palo Santo and the Regime des Fleurs. The vessels are really nice too. I always like to recycle them as a place for my beauty brushes. My friend Yasmin Sewell has created the most heavenly fragrance brand, Vyrao. I love her candles and incense too. I buy them for all my friends.

13. If you could share one piece of beauty advice, what would it be? Nobody is perfect. I’ve learned it's the imperfections that are the real showstoppers. I also believe that your appearance will shine brighter if you are happier in your day-to-day life. Oh, and always use SPF!! One of my biggest changes with ageing is staying out of the sun. I used to be a real sun worshipper, but I try not to stay out in it now.

14. What beauty product do you recommend to everyone? Rose Inc Softlight Luminous Hydrating Concealer. I use this a little bit like foundation. I blot it where I need it and then blend it out with a brush.

15. Are you team dewy or matte? Dewy!

16. The greatest drugstore product for under £10? I’m all about cheap mascara. I love Maybelline Great Lash mascara.

17. Your brows, in one word: Not laminated.

18. Makeup primer: love it or hate it? 

Hate it! I’ve just never thought I needed to add that extra step to my routine. Sometimes less is more for me.

19. What beauty rule do you always break? Always take off your makeup before bed. It’s a non-negotiable step for me always.

20. Would you rather have ultra-skinny brows or bleached brows? Skinny.

21. Which celebrity’s hair would you love to steal? I always reference people like Alexa Chung, Amber Valletta, Kate Moss—people who have somewhat similar haircuts or texture to me when I’m getting my hair done for events or photo shoots.

22. Which era of beauty inspires you most? Nineties for sure! I still use Pinterest and have a whole board of ’90s beauty. 

23. Eyelash curlers: love them or hate them? Love them. I also heat them up, and they last so much longer. 

25. Best beauty hack? Make your nail polish dry faster by soaking your nails in ice water after painting them.

This isn’t the first time Lara Worthington has introduced us to some amazing sunnies, and here’ hoping it won’t the be the last either. Last week, the style star posted a selfie on her IG wearing what are honestly the coolest sunglasses we’ve seen this season—so naturally, we just had to find out more about them.

Partnering up with NYC-based jewellery designer Jordan Askill, Le Specs has created a cool collab that we’re sure will be a hit. Similar to other popular sunglasses styles we’ve seen this season, the pair worn by Worthington had smaller frames, but their shape was unlike anything we’ve seen before. Rather than an oblong or cat eye micro lens, this collection’s version is shaped like a pentagon. While some of the collection’s other styles are a little larger, each has a unique shape nonetheless.

As they say, “it’s all in the details”, and this collection is confirming it. The winning feature on these sunnies is the gold embellishment on arms which make these glasses look more like jewellery than your average specs. The aptly named Panthère styles feature a small gold panther “frozen in time”, according to the brand— and we must say, you can tell that it was the vision of a jewellery designer.

Another bonus is the price. Even though these lenses exude a high-end appeal, the price tag isn’t too steep compared to other designer brands. Earlier today, Lara Worthington proved again that she is the ultimate style maven, posting a photo on Instagram of her wearing some seriously cool sunglasses. The thick, black sunglasses have a unique shape and the pink lenses compliment this quirky style perfectly.

We’ve already mentioned that the brand behind POMS is sure to be big this year, and Lara’s post confirms it. The Australian brand was created in 2011 and has made a name for itself quickly, already having garnered attention from celebrities like Beyoncé and Cara Delevingne. If Lara’s post is any indication (which it always is) the brand is only set to continue to grow from here.

Over the last six months, something's happened, and I'm obsessed with Lara Worthington’s style. She's always had something but it's like a flick has switched and now she's all over my Pinterest board. Perhaps it began when she featured in a whimsical outdoor shoot for the August edition of Elle Australia, or maybe it was her pink vintage Dior dress she recently wore that really did it for me. Either way, it looks like she's heading in a fresh direction, and I like it.

Where we once saw Worthington in a very black-and-white wardrobe, we're starting to see her step out in more colour, and interesting shapes. Preparing for award season perhaps? We can only hope.

Bring up the topic of style icons and my face lights up. There are so many influential men and women that have shaped fashion history, not only specifically to the fashion industry, but beyond that through music, literature, art, film, and television. For me, it’s always been characters in books and movies spanning the decades, or iconic women in particular eras that have influenced me the most. It’s Zelda Fitzgerald in the ’20s steering from the norm (of the time) wearing drop-waist dresses and opulent accessories. Actress Charlotte Rampling in the ’60s vibing cool beach girl with minimal bikinis and borrowing denim shirts from the boys. In the ’70s it was Lauren Hutton and her metallic, quirky (but still classic) outfits that are still relevant today. And who can look past the ’90s supermodel era when Linda Evangelista embraced masculinity with her cropped hair and oversized power suits. It’s the women that have gone against the norm and made statements that have managed to stay icons today.

More recently though, I adore fashion director and illustrator Jenny Walton’s street style. She’s got the high/low, designer/vintage contrast down to an art, as well as clearly being well-informed on each era she herself is influenced by, which you can see through the way she wears her clothing and accessories. Through Instagram we’re able to see real insight to the daily lives of celebrities and influencers as they broadcast their true personal style to the world. And so, the Who What Wear Australia team want to share their own favourite style icons that they always turn to for inspiration.

There's a certain Dior dress that's been doing the celebrity rounds over the last few months, and Lara Worthington is the latest to step out in the style in Cannes. The dress in question is a leather version of the sheer Dior dress that took over the S/S 17 runway. Worthington is in the south of France for a Miss Dior fragrance event, and styled the dress to perfection, keeping accessories minimal, and hair slicked back.

A leather dress is a bold move, but as Bella Hadid proved back in October 2016, with the right accessorising, it's easy to pull off.

When we heard the news that supermodel Karlie Kloss would be walking in the David Jones Autumn/Winter 2017 show, it’s safe to say we were more excited than ever to attend the retail giant’s bi-annual fashion event. Add to that a guest list packed with Sydney’s fashion elite—think Lara Worthington, Pia Miller, Carissa Walford, Ksenija Lukich, Mimi Elashiry, Brooke Testoni—and it was a night not to be missed.

The much-anticipated show saw Kloss open in New Guard Australian designer Macgraw and DJs ambassadors Jessica Gomes, Jesinta Franklin and Jason Dundas lead 46 of Australia’s top models, including Bridget Malcolm and Charlee Fraser, on the catwalk outside Sydney’s iconic St Mary’s Cathedral.

Models showcased the best of the new season from David Jones with a stellar line-up of local and international designers, including Romance Was Born, Zimmermann, Ginger and Smart, Christopher Esber, Bassike, Dion Lee, Carla Zampatti, Alice McCall, Lover, Celine, Balenciaga, Christopher Kane, Alexander McQueen, Saint Laurent, Valentino and Alexander Wang. 

The dramatic finale segment saw bridal showcased on the Collections Launch runway for the first time, with dresses from Reem Acra and Self Portrait to Oscar de la Renta and Monique Lhuillier, amongst others, and a special tribute to George Michael as models walked to his 1990 hit 'Freedom' to close the phenomenal show.

Lara Worthington has been a huge fan of Australian label Albus Lumen since it launched late last year. The resort label, created by stylist-turned-designer Marina Afonina (who also happens to be one of Worthington’s pals), has seen a hugely successful first year, with everyone from Lindy Klim and Margaret Zhang, to Tessa James spotted wearing the brand.

For its second collection, Albus Lumen tapped Worthington to star in its campaign (if you live in Sydney, you might remember seeing her on the launch posters plastered around the CBD), and if you ask us, it’s a match made in heaven. The collection features long, clean lines, natural fibres, and easy-to-wear shapes. Perfect for the Australian summer.

“I think Céline. I think Phoebe Philo [designer] is a very inspiring woman. It’s [the label] very minimal and I love the mystery of her, you don’t know much about her. I think she inspires me to want to know more about her, her clothes—everything about it, there’s not much branding. It’s easy to wear day or night, but it is very expensive. The brand that is most in my wardrobe is probably Céline.”

On her favourite affordable label…

“Since living in New York, maybe Reformation? It’s an everything-label. It has like, $100 dresses, I don’t know if you can get it to Australia [ed’s note: You can, and it has free shipping]. But I feel like if you buy something and you don’t really love it, you can wear it once and it’s okay because it’s so affordable. There are hundreds of dresses to choose from.”

Find your uniform and stick to it— in a recent interview with POPSUGAR Australia, Worthington said “I kind of wear the same thing whether I'm going to an event or on a plane; I wear of lot of black and neutral colours, so everything goes together”.

When one of Australia’s most prominent stylists launches a label, we sit up and listen. Why? Because after a career spanning over 10 years in the fashion industry, Marina Afonina knows her stuff. (Remember the Elle Australia story where Lara Worthington debuted her #BingleBob? That was Marina).

So, what do we love about her new label, Albus Lumen? The clean lines, a neutral colour palette and timeless shapes mean these pieces will fill an empty gap in your closet—you’ll find a favourite that you never realised you were missing! Stylists are good like that—they know how to put together a perfect capsule wardrobe.

All we know, is that spring is about to get a whole lot chicer.

Who What Wear: What was the inspiration behind starting your own label?

Marina Afonina: I was always interested in design since I was young, but was not ready until now. Being a stylist, you get to work and see everything in a market and I really felt there was a gap in resort wear. I went to Europe last year and found it very hard to find anything to wear which was simple and effortless and not too young. That’s how Albus Lumen came to life. The collection offers just simple, understated luxury pieces to suit any age and body type.

WWW: What makes your label different?

MA: I think it’s versatile and suitable for everyone. I wanted to create a simple collection which is wearable, comfortable and uses great fabrics. That’s why I went for an offering of silk linens and all natural fibers.

WWW: Are there any other designers that you look to for inspiration?

MA: For me it’s always been Nicolas Ghesquiere as an old favourite and J.W Anderson—very inspiring and fresh.

WWW: Is there anyone you’d love to have on board as a collaborator?

MA: It’s a bit early at this stage to be thinking about collaborations, but would love to have a shoe designer on board when the brand is ready.

WWW: Who are some of the most memorable people you’ve styled or shoots you’ve worked on?

MA: It’s hard to say as there have been so many, probably the latest was shooting Phoebe Tonkin for Sunday Style. She was lovely to work with.

WWW: What are 3 of your favourite fashion moments in history?

MA: Minimalism by Phoebe Philo at Celine, Alexander McQueen’s last collection Plato Atlantis S/S 10 was breathtaking and Yves Saint Laurent classic tuxedo shot by Helmut Newton.

WWW: Who would you love to see wearing the brand?

MA: I see the collection resonating well with anyone from 20 years old to 60. Style icons such as Lauren Hutton, Cate Blanchett and Lara Worthington.

WWW: You work really closely with Lara Worthington—what’s it like when you get together?

MA: I’ve known Lara for many years now, we started working together and became very close friends. Lara has a great sense of style and really understands fashion. She knows her body really well. We talk about everything really, motherhood, fashion, travel.

WWW: Do you have any secret talents?

MA: I love cooking for friends and family!
