Remember last summer when you couldn't scroll on Instagram for two seconds without seeing someone wearing a white cotton maxi skirt? It was certainly the trend of the season, and by all accounts, it's continuing to shine in 2026. That said, right now, I'm taking cues from my favorite stylish celebrities in their 40s who have been wearing a different color trend: pastel pink.

Most recently, Kate Hudson was photographed in Los Angeles wearing a slip skirt in the prettiest shade of pink. She teamed it with a casual T-shirt and Alaïa Leather-Trimmed Straw Ballet Flats ($1650). But she's not the only 40-something fan of our color du jour. Natalie Portman attended a tennis match wearing a pleated pink skirt, while Paris Hilton took hers to Wall Street for an event at the New York Stock Exchange. The 2026 award season is coming to a close, and it seems that the nominees, presenters, and attendees are saving some of their best red carpet looks for last. Last night, the 32nd Actor Awards (aka, the award show formerly known as the SAG Awards) took place in downtown Los Angeles, and I found it to be a very chic red carpet. In contrast to the upcoming Oscar Awards, the Actor Awards offer the attendees the opportunity to have a bit more fun with their looks. They're not quite as formal as the Oscars, and many on the red carpet embraced the opportunity to take some fashion risks that undoubtedly paid off. It's also worth noting that for the first time in my memory for an award show, the red carpet had a theme—"Reimagining Hollywood Glamour From the '20s and '30s"—and many on the red carpet seemed to let that guide what they chose to wear.

You may have seen our coverage of all the looks from the Actor Awards red carpet, as well as our exhaustive beauty coverage from the night, but now that we've all had some time to marinate on it, I've chosen the top five looks of the night. If I'm being honest, it wasn't all that easy—it was a very chic red carpet, with lots of looks that even the most discerning of fashion people would appreciate, but narrow it down I did. Emma Stone

Emma Stone has become a staple on the red carpet, with a great many nominations and wins under her belt. And although I may personally be biased because I'm a fan, let me just say that she has been killing it on the award circuit this year. Stone, who was nominated for her work in Bugonia, and stylist Petra Flannery opted for a shimmery lilac Louis Vuitton gown with a matching shimmering cardigan. It had an effortless '90s minimalism feel to it and exemplified what cool girls wear on the red carpet in 2026.

Chase Infiniti

New red carpet It girl Chase Infiniti, nominated for One Battle After Another, also opted for Louis Vuitton. Her wheat-colored formfitting long-sleeve gown and cloche-style mesh cap perfectly represented the theme and felt glamorous yet modern. She said in a red carpet interview that she was going for a Josephine Baker look, and she undoubtedly succeeded.

Sarah Pidgeon

Sarah Pidgeon, another new face on the red carpet this year, has seen her star in Hollywood and the fashion world rise in recent months, given her spot-on portrayal of Carolyn Bessette Kennedy in Love Story: John F. Kennedy Jr. & Carolyn Bessette. Pidgeon wore a pale pink tulip-shaped strapless gown from Balenciaga's S/S 26 collection, and it pretty much solidified her as the new fashion It girl who I hope will be a fixture on red carpets for years to come. Taking fashion risks right out of the gate is always a good idea, if you ask me.

Demi Moore

Whenever I receive a press release that someone will be wearing Schiaparelli on the red carpet, I know it's going to be a dramatic, showstopping moment, and that's exactly what it was when Demi Moore stepped on the red carpet wearing a S/S 26 couture gown by the fashion house. According to Schiaparelli, the sculptural black bustier gown was made of black wool crêpe embellished with a satin-stitch trompe l’œil crocodile tail, and the white tulle "cloud" at the back was embroidered with 8500 black mimosas in silk thread and over 11,000 crystals. Breathtaking, to say the least.

Last but not least, Kate Hudson, nominated for Song Sung Blue, went with an ethereal bridal-esque gown, custom-made by Valentino. It included trend-forward elements such as elegant ruching and a cape detail that cascaded over her shoulders. It was the perfect example of the glamorous, romantic Grecian-inspired aesthetic that was popular in the 1930s, in keeping with the theme for the night.

We're nearing the end of the 2026 award season, which kicked off shortly after New Year's Day. In the last two months, we've ogled at Selena Gomez's feathery Chanel dress at the Golden Globes, Sabrina Carpenter's Valentino number at the Grammys, and Chase Infiniti's yellow Louis Vuitton gown at the Critics Choice Awards. Today, we arrive at the Actor Awards, formerly known as the SAG Awards.

Curious about the name change? It makes sense because the ceremony does not present Best Picture or Best Director awards, focusing exclusively on acting roles across both television and film. I own several different iterations, including multiple colors of Dôen's flat Mary Jane Slippers ($208) and these Carel Peche Slingback Mary Janes ($675) with block heels. Don’t get me wrong, black bikinis will always have a spot in my summer packing list. They’re a classic for a reason. But this season, I’ve found myself making space for a new neutral that feels so right for 2025.

Just this week, I spotted Dakota Johnson and Kate Hudson on the Ibizan seafront together, both wearing brown bikinis—and suddenly, black didn’t seem quite so essential. During a recent press day in New York, I caught up with Hudson to talk about Running Point, beauty transformations, her Joico must-haves, and her witchy side. Yes, she's deeply into tarot, moon rituals, and crystals, and that just makes me love her a million times more.

First of all, I have to tell you—I started watching Running Point last night in my hotel room, and I was already hooked. I binged four episodes, and I was like, "I have stories to file, but I also just want to keep watching!" It's so funny.

Thank you! That makes me so happy. We loved doing it; it's been the best experience. Doing press this week and talking about everybody in the show, there's just so much love in it. I feel like everybody's really enjoying it. It's just been a joy.

I know Isla Gordon is going to be another one of your iconic characters. And the costumes!

Aren't they great? My stylist, Sophie Lopez, actually came in and worked with Sal [Pérez], our costume designer, and we really laid out Isla's [whole look]. If we get the go-ahead for another season, which I hope we do, we're going to lean in so hard with the clothes [laughs].

We have to talk about how Penny Lane and Andie Anderson are still major style and beauty inspirations. How did hair, makeup, and wardrobe help you get into those roles?

Oh, it's everything. Hair and makeup is a huge part of it—even someone like Andie Anderson. She seems like she has a simple blowout, right? But there are so many little things that go into it. … How blonde is she? Why is she that blonde? Does she get one process or more? Who does her hair? There was this TikTok where someone just completely got it, and it was so funny because we think about those things, but we never talk about them because they feel silly. But he was all over the curly hair [at the end of How to Lose a Guy] and when she's Andie off-duty.

In this last movie I did [the forthcoming Song Sung Blue], hair and makeup plays such a huge part in it, like a real character. The second I got my "Claire hair" on, I became a different person. Hair does that. I mean, when you put on a ton of extensions and you've got big hair and it's just bouncing everywhere, your whole body starts to bounce [laughs].

Oh, definitely. When I went from black hair to pink and then blonde, it was a totally different vibe. I'm like, "This is my new character now. I'm leaning in."

It's so fun. Hair, I always say, is the main character. Makeup can be, but if your hair isn't working, it throws the whole thing off.

You tend to play a lot of confident characters, even Isla. Is there a specific one where you felt that the most?

There was something about Liv in Bride Wars; her fierceness and drive were really fun to play. Birdie Jay from Glass Onion, I'd say, was probably the most fun, freest, most fabulous character I've played. Talk about costumes and hair and makeup!

Let's talk about your singer-songwriter era! What's your hair vibe for performing?

Thank you. It's been really great for my soul, and just putting it out in the world has been such a wonderful part of my life. For hair, I think it depends. If it's a bigger show, I like having my hair down. I did this thing the other day with a live orchestra in England for the BBC, and it was so nice to have my hair up and out of the way. Then I started thinking about Ariana [Grande] and how she always had her pony, and I was like, "Oh, that's actually a fun middle ground." It's out of your way, but then you've got the movement.

You always have amazing hair. What Joico products are you turning to?

I've been doing the K-Pak for years, and the KBond20 Power Masque is sort of like the new version of it. It's probably my overall favorite product. The Dream Blowout Thermal Protection Créme is one I've been using all the time. I put this in, even when I don't blow out my hair, so that my curls don't get frizzy.

The Power Spray is honestly the best hair spray. It is so good and brushable, which… My hair just snaps if [a hair spray is not] brushable. It holds, protects, and then you brush it out, and I haven't had any damage. And the Defy Damage Shampoo and Conditioner are just wonderful.

I have to ask about fragrance. What types of scents do you usually go for?

I love perfume so much, and I do all different kinds. I don't have just one scent. It's really about my mood. I love what you would consider more hippie smells—that sort of amber, patchouli but cut with a little bit of neroli or floral. I like those heavy, musky types of scents. On the flip side, I love orange blossom. That's one of my favorites. Orange blossom, jasmine… I also try to do ones that are more natural and wear ones that don't have all the hormone disruptors in them and stuff like that. But you gotta pick and choose.

You read tarot, and I remember you talking about feeling aligned with the moon. I'm a practicing witch and do spellwork, so we have to talk about all of that.

I've got sun energy, and that means I need to work more with the moon and really get into ceremonial work, which I've done a lot of. Right now, we enter the Pisces new moon, which is such a great one because it's much more emotional, intuitive, and creative. I try to focus on moon energy a lot, even though I am drawn toward sun energy. But I do all of it, even working with crystals.

What's your favorite crystal?

I always wear turquoise. Turquoise is an important stone for me, like a very protective stone, but malachite… There's something about malachite. I love labradorite. It's such an intense manifesting stone, so when I'm meditating on certain things, I really bring in labradorite and selenite. And then angelite, the blue stone, I bring that with me when I'm doing any kind of reading or any kind of connection. I'd love to go deep on those things because no one ever really talks about them. It's always like a little thing here and there. It's an amazing world to get into, and I do come from a long line of Italian witches.

Okay, so I'm Sicilian, and Italians… It's a thing. I was talking about it with my cousin, and all of our Italian side is just very strong and intuitive.

Additionally, plenty of brands currently have brown midi and maxi skirts in their collections, so that's certainly a strong indicator of the trend.

Is this a safe space to admit something? Here goes: I've never owned Birkenstock sandals before. As a Southern California native, I've always gravitated towards flip-flops for casual outfits and summer beach days. G-strings… Remember them? They were an essential part of the noughties wardrobe, a vital yet teeny-tiny pillar of the support system in which our low-slung (probably laced-up) jeans could thrive, our handkerchief tops could be cut high to reveal plenty of stomach and hip, and our tight-fitting double-mesh dresses from Morgan could be as slinky as possible. The all-important thong rose to fashion fame partly out of necessity, but it was also a signifier of coolness—so much so that an exposed one (aka a "whale tail" as it was coined back then) was something to be proud of. The look was so desirable that key lingerie brands such as Gossard even created versions with little diamanté trims for the very purpose of them being seen.

It was a raunchy time for celebrity style—Christina Aguilera's chaps, Britney Spears's crystal bodysuits, and the many see-through dresses of British glamour girls—and the look did filter into the mainstream, albeit a slightly softer incarnation. But then, the inevitable trend buck came, and lingerie spun a 180º to revert back to bigger pants and more practical, comfortable options. To this day, VPLs are still not the sacrilegious faux pas they once were, and our butts are all the happier for it. 

But something unusual is afoot in the world of fashion. It looks like G-strings are back on the horizon in myriad forms and are already being adopted by A-listers, high-fashion designers, and influencers alike. This time, however, there's a significant difference: Many of the thongs we've noticed around the internet are actually attached to the clothes featured. It's like a sassy sibling to cut-out dresses, only you'll find the look across trousers, skirts, and jeans, too. It seems to be the absolute antithesis of the uniform we've come to adopt over the past year (trackies, puffer, chunky boots), but perhaps, that's the very reason this small tweak is taking off big time.

It's a design detail that certainly divides opinion, but with high-profile brands such as Givenchy and Versace backing the look for spring/summer 2021 and the idea already cropping up on our IG feeds, it would appear that stylish women across the globe are willing to give it a go. Hailey Bieber and Dua Lipa are two notable fans, but this isn't a trend reserved only for the rich and famous. Fashion insiders are keen to go there, too—take Camille Charriere's very elegant option of string-detailed trousers from Nensi Dojaka with a ribbed knit and Chanel bag. This particular pair of pants signals the fact that even more iterations are actually coming through from up-and-coming or cult-followed indie brands such as Surface TV, Dion Lee, and Supriya Lele, meaning the trend is reaching far and wide when it comes to its potential adopters.

While I personally find myself recoiling away from the look, Lauren Eggertsen, Who What Wear's senior fashion editor in the US, has been charting its rise for a few months now and feels compelled to experiment. "I love any trend that really pushes the boundaries and gets people talking. Therefore, I am all about this new thong movement," she tells me. "I will admit I was a little bit shocked to see how quickly it manifested amongst the influencer and celebrity crowd. This trend really is just a small detail tacked onto a garment, but it's one that speaks volumes, and that's why I love it."

When we crowdsourced a response from our followers on Instagram last week, over 2000 readers responded with their initials thoughts on this controversial trend. The verdict wasn't entirely clear-cut, but an overwhelming 89% were not for the idea this spring.

Should you be one of the 11% who are interested, Lauren has some styling advice for you: "I really think it will come down to the garment. I love the idea of wearing a dress with this trend incorporated into it for a more formal occasion like Dua Lipa, but I also fancy a casual pants version with a baby tee and Converse."

Hollywood clearly loves bringing things back from the dead. Hot off the heels of the Gossip Girl reboot news, we've now learned that the ultimate rom-com, How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days, is coming back as a TV series. The 2003 film starred Kate Hudson as Andie, a magazine columnist, and Matthew McConaughey as Ben, an advertising executive—and it spawned perhaps the most famous yellow dress in movie history. 

As Deadline reports, the series will be a "modern take" on the cult classic, but no word yet on whether Hudson and McConaughey will be involved. Deadline explains that the show "follows a glib young online columnist and an oversexed advertising executive who both need to prove, once and for all, that they’re capable of being monogamous." Congratulations are in order: Kate Hudson has given birth to her third child. In an Instagram announcement, Hudson revealed that she welcomed a new baby daughter yesterday, October 2, who joins the actress's two sons, 14-year-old Ryder and 7-year-old Bingham. Hudson also revealed the adorable name: Rani Rose Hudson Fujikawa.

Curious about the unique name Rani? Hudson and boyfriend Danny Fujikawa chose a very sentimental moniker. "We have decided to name our daughter Rani (pronounced Ronnie) after her grandfather, Ron Fujikawa," Hudson writes in her post. "Ron was the most special man who we all miss dearly. To name her after him is an honor. Everyone is doing well and happy as can be. Our family thanks you for all the love and blessings that have been sent our way and we send ours right back." There's a reason Kate Hudson has been lying very low recently: She's expecting her third child! She took to Instagram to announce the pregnancy with a sweet video that also revealed the baby's sex. Thanks to fashion gurus like Kendall Jenner and Gigi Hadid, athleisure has become one of the hottest trends. Gone are the days where leaving the house in leggings or sweats should cause us any fear of being judged by the outside world for not looking polished or put together. On the contrary, you’ll likely find a style-savvy It girl out and about in sneakers and laid-back luxury over a dressy ensemble paired with heels.

Many brands have jumped on the athleisure bandwagon as of late, but one that has been on it from the start of this trend’s trajectory is none other than Kate Hudson’s Fabletics. The line, which launched in 2013, has recently teamed up with CFDA’s Fashion Targets Breast Cancer initiative to produce a limited-edition pink seamless outfit in honor of both National Women’s Health & Fitness Day and Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

We caught up with the actress and entrepreneur to discuss her latest collab and how she incorporates activewear into her daily attire.

WHO WHAT WEAR: We love that you’ve teamed up with CFDA’s Fashion Targets Breast Cancer initiative to launch your new limited-edition pink seamless outfit for Fabletics! What inspired this collaboration?

KATE HUDSON: It comes with knowing people, having friends in the worlds that we have friends in, and then talking about things we can do with each other. This just seemed like a great fit. Our brand is growing at a really wonderful rate, and one of our mantras at Fabletics is “Fashion first.” We want things to be fun and multifaceted, so doing this with CFDA just really felt wonderful.

WWW: Aside from the gym, yoga, Pilates, etc., where else would you wear these pieces?

KH: I think at this point you can just wear them wherever you want to. You know what I mean? If you feel like wearing [activewear] just to take your kids to school, if you feel like wearing it to lunch, if you feel for some reason you want to put it under a top, the bra works great. I feel like these things now just become so versatile. It’s really up to you, who you are, and how you like to dress. 

WWW: Would you ever consider wearing a piece of athleisure wear on a date?

KH: Interesting! Yes, I would; it just depends on what it is. For me, I love our high-waisted black leggings, but they don’t necessarily look like leggings. You work out in them, but they look like you can actually wear them out, so maybe something like that. And then I love our Hudson bralettes; they’re sort of a little bit smaller, and those look really good under things.

When the announcement went out that Oscar de la Renta would be visiting Sydney for the first time to close Fashion Week Australia with its S/S 16 collection, our office went into overdrive—everyone can name an iconic Oscar de la Renta moment at the drop of a hat (e.g. Carrie Bradshaw in the pink Oscar de la Renta dress ordering McDonalds in Sex and the City), and it got us excited about the history we’re about to witness in Sydney.

What do we know so far? It’s the first time Oscar de la Renta has brought a fashion show to Australia, we’ll be seeing some exclusive pieces that have never been revealed, the label will be represented in Sydney by Executive Vice President, Eliza Bolen, and the show is being staged by world-class producer, Ali Newling.
