With a rainbow-colored runway that could probably be seen from an airplane, the Louis Vuitton men’s runway show took place today, marking the first with Artistic Director Virgil Abloh at the helm. And as with so many of the coolest cultural events that happen around the world, much of the story unfolded on Instagram.

We saw Rihanna posing in the new LV designs with her stylist Jahleel Weaver, Bella Hadid sending heartfelt messages to the designer from the front row, Abloh and Kanye West giving each other a hug during the finale, and fans wearing coordinated blue tees as they lined the runway of Paris’s Palais-Royal garden. Frankly, even an attendee might have missed all these special moments happening at once.

One of our favorite posts from the day, however, came from Abloh himself, Louis Vuitton's first black artistic director in the label's history, who shared an image from his emotional bow. "You can do it too…" was all the caption read.

Its been almost a year since we sat down with Off-White designer Virgil Abloh to find out about his much-anticipated home décor collaboration with IKEA, and finally, pictures of the new line have emerged. Over the past few months, IKEA, Abloh, and various product designers have shared images on Instagram of the development process, offering hints of what's to come.

We've known about Abloh's redesign of the iconic Frakta bag for months, and now, the latest images confirm the line will go beyond small accessories. IKEA Today shared an image of a large blue Persian-style rug, emblazoned with the words "keep off." Another image shows a vivid red rug with the word "blue" in the centre. The move to design large investment pieces is in line with the direction Abloh spoke about during our interview last year. "You don't remodel your whole environment—that's not how people consume. What I'm more interested in is that statement piece that revitalises a whole room," he said.

There are usually a couple of announcements at IKEA's annual Democratic Design Days event that put media and décor lovers in a spin, but this year, one collaboration stole the show. The homewares brand shared that it is partnering with Virgil Abloh, trained architect, Kanye West's longtime creative director, and the founder of high-street fashion label Off-White, a favourite among It girls like Kendall Jenner and Bella Hadid.

When Abloh took to the stage to talk about the upcoming décor collaboration, which is due to launch in 2019, squeals and the click-click of iPhone cameras could be heard among the usually quiet and reserved media. But after a brief 10-minute discussion about the need for better small-space and first-apartment solutions—which will be the focus of Abloh's line—we were left with more questions than we started with.

Curious to know what furniture and accessories we can expect from Kanye West's closest confidant, we pulled Alboh aside to find out more. Here's what he told us.

MYDOMAINE: Why have you chosen to focus on first-apartment solutions for your line with IKEA?

VIRGIL ABLOH: My background is architecture and engineering, so all the projects that I do are not just about the design; its about asking, Why? Who? What need is it solving, and what's the cultural relevance? There's millions of chairs, millions of cups, millions of rugs in the world. I'm only interested in providing ones for people who don't know why they need a better-designed object or why something is cool.

Right now this project is in the early phases, so its limitless. Of course, there are basics like coffee tables and a sofa, but its an environment. I'm interested in the mass things, like a big rug, but I'm also interested in what makes a space cool and comforting. It could be the smallest ashtray.

MD: Will the collection represent your personal décor style, and if so, what is that?

VA: Mine is eclectic. I believe in two different objects being different, and the in-between expresses personality. In fashion, I do a high-low street-meets-refined thing, which to me feels modern. It feels as contradictory as people are. The freedom in the generation of now is that you don't have to be perfect. You don't have to fit in a box of liking modern or ornate. You can be in between.

Of course, as an architect, I'm trying to figure out how impossible it would be to pick a coffee table that [different people] like. The way to get both of your attention in the collection is to do two dissimilar things that don't have to relate to each other.

MD: You've been quoted saying that we're a "post-Tumblr generation" obsessed with replicating a perfect image. Does that influence how millennials decorate?

VA: Its not realistic unless you have [a limitless] budget. You don't remodel your whole environment—that's not how people consume. What I'm more interested in is that statement piece that revitalises a whole room.

MD: What do you think is missing out there for first apartments?

VA: A huge part of [furniture] icons and design are that you usually have to go to school or meet someone who knows what the difference is between an Eames chair and a folding chair. That's not common knowledge. What I think is more of a disparity is there's nowhere to learn about that. You would only learn about it if it was trendy. So my mission statement is to make it trendy to learn about iconic moments in design.

In this project, I'm looking to my favourite items in design, [like] my first apartment purchase, which was a blue Eames chair. What makes it special is that originally those iconic things weren't put on a pedestal. They were classic and good and are now an icon. What happens if those are made available to someone who is buying their first apartment rather than just an anonymous chair?

MD: What are some of the items we can expect in the collection?

VA: One of the things I'm looking to do is merge things with art. If you had a painting or a sculpture, you would live with it longer than you would furniture. If you take some of those principles from art and apply it to an object, you make it feel special and made by an artist; even though it's mass-produced, you'll keep it for longer. Those are the reference points for the collection.

Kim Kardashian West and husband Kanye have chosen a name for their third child, a daughter born just this week via surrogate. And in West family tradition, they came up with a unique name that seems fitting and personal, yet not at all what we could have guessed. Introducing Chicago West.

Kardashian West revealed the birth details on her website today, including her daughter’s name, an ode to her husband’s hometown—at least, that's what we assume since no other insight was given. Like with Chicago’s siblings, West and Saint, these names pretty much guarantee their children never have to be in a kindergarten classroom with another student who shares their name (hey, it can be awkward.)

Kim Kardashian West has just announced the birth of her third child with husband Kanye West. Unlike the couple’s previous two children, the baby girl was born via a surrogate after Kardashian West’s previous difficulties with pregnancy and childbirth. Kim wrote her thanks publicly, stating: “We are incredibly grateful to our surrogate who made our dreams come true with the greatest gift one could give, and to our wonderful doctors and nurses for their special care.”

The couple has kept quiet throughout the entire pregnancy, confirming the speculation relatively late in the game, in September. Perhaps they wanted to avoid rumours or publicity surrounding their new baby, but now that she has arrived, we wish they would be a little less secretive.

Other than sharing the news via her website and social media, Kardashian West has remained quiet about the details of their new daughter. Without sharing any photos, or even a name, the couple has left us wanting more details. Granted, it did take them six days before announcing the name of their first born daughter, North, and three before announcing their son Saint's name—so maybe we just need to wait it out.

Kim did brainstorm some baby names on the Ellen Show like “Star” and “Tre”, as well as share that she had guests write potential names on tiles at the baby shower. Other rumours are that the couple's children will choose the name for their newborn sister. According to Metro UK, Kanye “thinks North is a creative genius and he’s happy to let her name their third child".

Regardless of who names the baby, we’re sure that the Kardashian West family won’t fail to surprise us, as they’ve done before. It’s anyone’s best guess what the name could be—but for now, we’ll just have to rest assured that another unique name is in the works for their new daughter.

The Kardashian Wests are officially a family of five. On Tuesday morning, Kim Kardashian West confirmed on her website that the family has welcomed a new baby girl via a surrogate.

Although we don't know the baby's name yet, Kardashian revealed that she was born on January 15 at 12:47 a.m. and weighed 7 pounds and 6 ounces. "Kanye and I are happy to announce the arrival of our healthy, beautiful baby girl," she wrote on her website." We are incredibly grateful to our surrogate who made our dreams come true with the greatest gift one could give and to our wonderful doctors and nurses for their special care. North and Saint are especially thrilled to welcome their baby sister." What are your guesses on the new baby's name? 

Full disclosure: I love Kanye West. The first time I heard "Through the Wire," I was hooked. I bought The College Dropout followed by Late Registration the moment they were released (back in the day when people bought albums). Seriously though, go back and listen to “Heard ’Em Say,” and tell me that isn’t one of the best pop-rap songs ever. In the years between those days and now, Kanye has released yet more critically and commercially acclaimed records, married Kim Kardashian West and has built himself a reputation for being, let’s just say, not the most modest man in the world of music. And thanks to his sellout Yeezy line, he’s also currently trying to dominate the world of fashion. But despite his panache for self-aggrandisement, he’s still managing to do great things when it comes to both those industries. Even if you’ve never worn (or touched) a piece of Balmain clothing, you’re most definitely familiar with the face of the brand. No, no Kim Kardashian West or Kanye West—although they wear a ton the iconic French brand and have fronted a campaign. We’re talking about the man who dazzled everyone in the fashion world when he assumed the position of creative director at the age of 25: Olivier Rousteing.

In an intimate talk last night as a part of The Atelier With Alina Cho at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the designer talked all about his life, upbringing, design philosophy, and so much more. Below we rounded up the five most interesting tidbits we heard.

He wants everyone in on the fashion conversation.

“Balmain is really diverse because diversity, for me, is one of the most important topics in fashion,” says Rousteing, whose runways have always reflected this philosophy in their model castings. It’s a core principle for the brand and one that he’s not shying away from anytime soon. “That’s what is modern today; that’s what is fashion.”

He’s incredibly choosy about who he dresses.

“I would never dress someone that I don’t believe in, I don’t like their music, I don’t like his world or her world. People I dress are people that I love, that I believe in, that inspire me.”

His cheekbones come at a cost (not the monetary kind).

Rousteing says that his most famous facial asset is the result of sucking in his cheeks “so hard,” he jokes. “I think there’s blood or they’re blue inside.”

His now famous nude cover of Tetu magazine taught his own family a lot about him.

Rousteing paints a picture of his grandfather coming across the cover of the magazine during his usual errands where he lives in the South of France and being surprised. “They learned about my life,” he says of his family. “All my confessions, all my secrets. They opened that magazine and they saw.”

There’s only one other fashion house he would work for.

“Mine,” he says, plain and simple. Although he didn’t point to any immediate plans to launch an Olivier Rousteing label, he does suggest that it’s a possibility in the future. “It’s part of a process.”

It's official: Kanye West has joined Instagram. The musician, designer, and infamous Twitter user's account popped up yesterday, and of course the internet is losing its mind. It hasn't even been 24 hours since the discovery of West's verified account, and it's already amassed almost 1 million followers, with wife Kim Kardashian West being one of the first. 

Earlier this year, the 39-year-old expressed his thoughts on potentially joining Instagram, telling followers on Twitter, "I was thinking about getting an Instagram but only on one condition...... no one can ask me or try to tell me what to Instagram... It's my art..." Well, we can always count on Kanye for a head-scratching social media moment, and that's just what he gave us with his first Instagram post. The captionless photo appears to be a still from a scene in the 1990 science-fiction movie Total Recall. While we're unsure of what this could possibly mean to West, one thing is for sure: We can expect the unexpected (including "art") on his new social media account.

This season, Kanye West took over Roosevelt Island to present Yeezy Season 4, and naturally, the fashion flock was more than willing to make the trek across the river.

Merch is on everyone’s minds these days, and now you can get a piece of Pablo because Kanye West will be opening up nearly two dozen temporary stores worldwide. Vogue reports that the musician will open the doors to 21 Pablo locations on August 19, officially making his popular merch available across the globe.

After much success in 2013 and earlier this year with the Life of Pablo pop-up in NYC, Los Angeles, and Paris, Kanye will have stores everywhere from Portland to Melbourne. But there’s a catch (of course there is!): The stores will only be open for three days, and the exact locations won’t be revealed on KanyeWest.com until 24 hours before they open. According to Vogue, each city’s name will be emblazoned on the tees and hoodies in Kanye’s signature gothic script and feature “bold shades reminiscent of the collection West showed at Madison Square Garden in February.” So set your alarms to find the merch store nearest you this weekend.

Kim and Kanye are at it again with another fashion magazine cover, and the couple's joint interview in the September issue of Harper's Bazaar is filled with interesting tidbits, from their favorite song to their hidden talents. The Q&A also covers Kanye's famous fashion line and just how popular the shoes from each collection are.

We all recall the excitement that ensued when Kanye's Adidas collab launched or when his Pablo pop-up went up, so it's no surprise that Yeezy pieces are just as hot. Kanye notes that although he didn't go to fashion school, he had access to members of fashion's elite, including Off-White creative director Virgil Abloh and Vetements' and Balenciaga's Demna Gvasalia, who also worked on Yeezy Season 1.

As he reflects on his brand's success, West adds, "Anyway, I want to say a controversial thing for this article... What designer on the planet can sell, consistently, 40,000 shoes. In two minutes?" Kim is quick to correct him and says, "One minute." And if you think that's shocking, wait until you see the rest of the interview, where you'll find out about the one shoe style Kim never wears.

September issue season has officially begun! And it kicked off with a magazine cover featuring two stars who are about as high profile as you can get: Kim Kardashian and Kanye West. Harper's Bazaar selected the duo for the cover (their second together) of its September 2016 annual Icons issue. Karl Lagerfeld, who photographs many of the campaigns for Chanel, Fendi, and his namesake line, captured the couple in a close-up shot that's quite different from their first cover together, for Vogue's April 2014 issue.

Lagerfeld captured the Wests in their element for the spread, with multiple shots of the stars taking selfies, naturally, and West wearing duds from Dior, Yeezy, Prada, and Ralph Lauren Collection. Carine Roitfeld, the magazine's fashion director, told WWD, "Each season Stephen [Gan, the shoot's creative director] and I try to find icons who can make things more interesting." She continued, "This time we were thinking about Kim and Kanye. They are a controversial couple and they will not please everyone, but we like them because they are different and represent positivity."

The spread also features models Natasha Poly, Lara Stone, and Lindsey Wixson. The insightful interview portion with the couple covers everything from tweets to selfies to Yeezy to Kardashian West's first fashion meeting. (Spoiler alert: West fell asleep while it was in progress.)

Kanye West just presented his New York Fashion Week collection, Yeezy Season 3, in an epic event at Madison Square Garden. In true Kanye style, he didn’t present a standard runway presentation, but a listening party for his new album, The Life of Pablo.

The world’s most famous family were all there to support Kanye. Kim Kardashian West made her first official appearance since the birth of son Saint West, dressed head-to-toe in white. She was accompanied in the crowd by her sisters Kendall Jenner, Kylie Jenner, Kourtney Kardashian, Khloe Kardashian and daughter North West.

The collection was a departure from his last two seasons. In the past, Kanye’s gone for a relaxed, distressed vibe. But Season 3, felt decidedly more elevated. Vogue Australia fashion director Christine Centenera styled the show, featuring shades of burgundy, khaki, olive, nude and white with hints of aqua blue. 

Models moved from either standing or sitting completely still on two stages draped in fabric, while Kanye’s album played. Between songs, Kanye thanked his team and fans for their support and revealed he wants to one day be the creative director of Hermés. (Surprisingly, there was no rant—except for thanking Carine Roitfeld for her eternal support and Olivier Rousteing for designing custom outfits for his famous family to wear to the show).

Last night at the 29^th annual Footwear News Achievement Awards in New York, Kanye West was honoured with the “Shoe of the Year” award for the Adidas Yeezy Boost 350. Now if you’re a Kanye or sneaker fan, you’ll know that this was the most difficult shoe to get your hands on this year. It sold out in record time and as reported by Fashionista, Matches Fashion was reportedly hacked by people trying to score themselves a pair. And we don’t blame them. Since its release, Gigi Hadid plus the whole Kardashian family have been spotted wearing the sneaker.

The Fondation Louis Vuitton—the Frank Gehry-designed art hub recently opened in Paris by the luxury group LVMH—held off its impending classical exhibitions this past weekend in lieu of a performance by Kanye West. Bernard Arnault, LVMH’s CEO, was one of the big names in attendance, along with the Oscar-winning film director of 12 Years a Slave, Steve McQueen. But in West's orbit, one star always seems to shine brighter than the rest: Kim Kardashian, of course.

She succeeded once more at top-notch intrigue while sitting backstage after the show, chatting to WWD about her halo of newly blond hair. “I’ve had references of Madonna with platinum hair… on my computer forever,” she noted, adding that she’s “happy with it. It’s a look.” And apparently she’ll be keeping the colour for an upcoming campaign, the specifics of which she wouldn’t dare reveal. Cue the endless speculation.

In the meantime, we’ll have to make do with another interesting tidbit: Kardashian’s comfort with redesigning her Céline wares. The item in question? A black coat that was originally white, which she also added a fur collar to. According to West, it’s “now… a really dope coat.” A winning endorsement if there ever was one.

Mere mention of the name Kanye West initiates a serious case of the eye-rolls amongst most people. He seems to be wildly unpopular, having built a reputation as an overly aggressive, critical, and downright rude person with wildly unpopular opinions. Ever since he first interrupted Taylor Swift’s acceptance speech at the 2009 MTV Video Music Awards, it’s all been downhill from there.

But I’m here to offer what might be considered another wildly unpopular opinion: Kanye West is not overly aggressive, critical, or rude—he’s just a person with opinions, very passionate opinions, and no real desire to filter them. And why should he? If we were as famous as Kanye West, I can pretty much guarantee we would all want to use our fame as a platform for our beliefs. That’s all he’s doing, and he gets way more flak than he deserves.

As much as I’d like to believe that Kim helmed her own sartorial makeover, I think it’s time to acknowledge Kanye West’s part in it. Kardashian herself has talked about how much his influence has changed her style—and recently, West called Kardashian his “fashion muse.” It’s clear he’s had a direct impact on how stylish Kim Kardashian has become—he took her from reality star to total fashion icon, dressed in every couture house from Givenchy to Balmain to Lanvin. That’s no small feat. 

No matter how hard West might try to appear in the public eye—how impenetrable, aggressive, and staunch—I maintain that underneath it all, he’s an incredibly sensitive artist. In a recent interview with Vogue's André Leon Talley, West said, "I feel like a human being, like a man. A man makes mistakes, a man can have an opinion, a man can be hypocritical. I feel like my blood hasn't been turned cold by the concept of celebrity."

And in his recent interview with Style.com, he mused, "I'm only concerned with making beautiful products available to as many people as possible. The least I could do is spend my time trying to give other people a piece of the so-called good life. Everyone should have the good life."

Regardless of whether or not Kanye West will achieve more success as a designer, the fashion world would benefit from listening to what he has to say. He is opening up conversations about some very important and relevant issues: The role of race in the industry, the increasingly prominent, but also detrimental role of fame in fashion, and the democratization of high-end fashion. The things West is saying aren’t really being said by anyone else, and they are things the fashion world needs to hear—because as we’ve seen with issues like plus-sizing, wearable tech, and social media, the fashion world is often slow on the uptake. We need voices like West’s to help propel us into the future.

Los Angeles tends to be largely overlooked when it comes to its contributions to the fashion community--but not last night! Daily Front Row hosted the first-ever Fashion Los Angeles Awards (which the publication has playfully dubbed the FLAs), honouring a number of designers and other style influencers for their contributions to Hollywood fashion.

Moschino's Jeremy Scott received the Womenswear Designer of the Year award, Calvin Klein's Italo Zuccheli won for menswear, Christian Louboutin won for shoes, Gigi Hadid took home the Model of the Year award, and many more. Some of Hollywood's brightest fashion stars showed up to honour their cohorts, and they lit up the red carpet with some fabulous wardrobe choices.
