Tell me what work/life balance looks like to you. How do you juggle parenting and having a successful career?

I do not believe in perfect balance. It is more like a dance. Some days my work demands more of me; other days my daughter does. I have learned to be fully present in whichever role I am in at that moment. I build my schedule with intention, whether it is a Brunel product meeting or bath time, and I give myself permission to slow down when I need to.

Do you feel like becoming a parent has changed the way you approach your career?

Absolutely. Becoming a mom has given me so much perspective. I'm more selective about the projects I take on because my time feels so much more precious. I want to make sure whatever I'm working on is truly fulfilling and worth being away from my daughter.

If you could give advice to the version of you that was fully in her single era and not yet a parent, what would it be?

Travel more, say yes to spontaneous adventures, and invest in yourself without hesitation. I loved my single era because it shaped my independence. I would tell her to build as many experiences as possible before life becomes more rooted.

You're working on a lot of fun projects right now, but what would be the dream next step in your career?

I am deeply focused on growing Brunel into a globally recognized brand, not only in beauty but as part of a complete lifestyle. Over the past few years, I have also been quietly investing in brands that inspire me, which is a part of my life most people do not know about. It has given me a new creative outlet and a chance to support ideas I believe in. I would love to dip back into the fashion world as well. Returning to the runway would be such an exciting full-circle moment. Acting is something I have often thought about too. Although, it requires the time and focus to commit fully to the demanding pace of auditions.

Effortless, elevated, timeless.

Where does your incredible sense of style come from?

From my mother, who has an impeccable eye, and from years of being immersed in fashion. Working with some of the world's top designers refined my understanding of fit, fabric, and proportion.

How has your style evolved since the beginning of your career to now?

In the early days, I experimented more. Now I gravitate toward clean lines, neutral palettes, and pieces that will look just as beautiful 10 years from now.

Does your daughter ever comment on your personal style? Any funny or sweet anecdotes?

She's still little, but she's already so observant. Sometimes when I'm getting dressed, she'll just point and smile at my shoes or grab at my jewelry. It's the sweetest little reminder that she's noticing everything.

Does your daughter enjoy fashion and getting dressed already?

Yes! She loves picking between two outfits if I hold them up. She always gets this proud little look when she makes her "choice." I try not to go overboard, but it's so much fun dressing her in mini versions of some of my favorite styles.

Has motherhood shifted the way you shop or the types of clothes you gravitate toward?

Definitely. Comfort has become so important, especially pieces I can move around in easily when I'm with her. But I still love looking polished, so I've found myself gravitating toward elevated basics and timeless staples that are easy to mix and match.

I also feel like playing with deep brown tones never goes out of style. Think '90s-esque beauty. It's made a recent comeback, and I truly feel it's a timeless look.

I've also always known you for your incredibly healthy-looking hair. Any treatments or products you swear by?

Regular hydrating treatments, minimal heat styling, and a silk pillowcase. I also believe in scalpcare as much as skincare. I have also always loved keratin treatments and will do them twice a year.

What's one piece in your closet you'd like to pass down to your children someday?

Oh, this is tough! Maybe one of my first Hermès bags. They just really stand the test of time and work so well with every outfit. My daughter loves carrying them around the house.

What was the experience like creating your dream home?

It was deeply personal. Every detail was chosen with both beauty and function in mind. I wanted it to feel like a sanctuary where I can recharge after a full day.

What makes the interior-design aspect of it special?

It is a reflection of my travels, with neutral tones, organic textures, and statement pieces that tell a story.

Are there any special pieces in your home that everyone should covet?

I think finding a good piece of art that makes you happy and inspires you. I have the first art piece that I bought by Rose Wylie, and every time I see it, it brings me those feelings.

A well-organized pantry and beautifully scented candles. They make even the busiest days feel more calm.

You recently collaborated with Downy Unstopables. What inspired that collaboration?

Fragrance has always been a passion for me, both in fashion and beauty. Partnering with Downy to create a high-end take on laundry felt like the perfect way to elevate everyday rituals into moments of luxury.

You're always on the road. What's the one hotel that feels like a home away from home?

Any Aman property. They're always structurally beautiful, intimate, neutral toned, and feel like a dream.

What's your favorite restaurant in your home city?

I'm going to sound so L.A. here, but Nobu Malibu. Consistently delicious and the view is so dreamy! I also love the drive down PCH to get there.

If you could get a vacation home anywhere in the world, where would it be?

Tuscany, Italy! For the delicious food and wine tasting!

Do you have a favorite family ritual like a Sunday recipe or movie night?

Sunday mornings are my favorite. We usually make pancakes together, and it's such a sweet, slow start to the week. I really treasure that little family time before the busyness of Monday.

In what ways do you see your child taking after you already?

She's already showing so much personality. She's very determined and independent, which feels very familiar to me. And she's a total people person, just like Juan and I.

Any parenting podcasts, books, or resources that you've found genuinely helpful?

I really liked Bringing Up Bébé. It gave me a fresh perspective on slowing down and enjoying the little moments. I also love listening to short parenting podcasts when I have time in the car. They help me feel less alone in figuring it all out.

What songs would make up your dream playlist?

Most of my playlists are filled with Rüfüs Du Sol. Any time I hear one of their songs, it immediately takes me to a calm and happy place.

Any binge-worthy shows lately?

I have to say I love reality TV. I love the Real Housewives franchise.

Where do you gather inspiration for your work?

From travel, I pay a lot of attention to textures, tones, the way people move throughout their lives.

Diary of a CEO. I just love the topics and guests he has on his show. Love learning about different entrepreneurs journeys. Emma Grede's podcast as well—a good mix of business strategy and inspiring personal stories.

Any good reads?

The Seat of the Soul by Gary Zukav. It is about living with purpose, aligning with your soul, and creating authentic power, which is something I try to bring into every area of my life.

What's the parenting advice you don't believe in?

That you have to follow a rigid "rule book." Every child is so different, and what works for one might not work for another. I've learned to trust my instincts more than anything else.

What's the best piece of parenting advice you have received?

To be present. It's so easy to get caught up in work or on your phone, but these moments are so fleeting. Just putting everything down and soaking in time with her has been the best advice.

One etiquette rule everyone should abide by?

Always send a thank-you note, handwritten when possible.

Your love language?

Quality time. Being fully present is the greatest gift.

What do you wish you knew earlier in your career?

That "no" is just redirection.

Something overrated and something underrated?

Overrated: wearing something just because it is "in" rather than because it makes you feel confident.

Underrated: truly taking the time to moisturize head to toe, which is why I created Brunel.

"Over the years, especially being in the modeling world, I've learned that less is often more," she tells Who What Wear about her understated approach to beauty. When you love fashion, you tend to fall into one of two categories: you're either a shoe person or a bag person (with a few outliers who take on both as their specialist subjects). For me, it's handbags. Big, small, top-handle, clutch—I'm infatuated with this particular accessory. In every outfit I see someone wear, my eyes immediately go to the bag, and upon a recent scroll through some celebrity outfits I'd saved, I noticed something: so many of them included handbags by the same brand. 

Most designers will dream of creating a cult piece that becomes so iconic it is reissued time and again; Gucci's Jackie, Dior's Lady Dior or Chanel's Classic Flap Bag are easy examples, but few will make one handbag that truly leaves its mark on fashion history. What are your biggest beauty and wellness ins and outs for 2024?

In: Going to dinner and cooking with friends, skincare routines, juice cleansing with Pressed Juicery.

Out: Rather than dieting or restricting oneself, adopting healthy habits instead, going to bed without doing [my] skincare routine, going out.

You recently posted a video on TikTok sorting through your skincare and makeup collection. As a beauty insider, how do you decide what stays and goes?

I really enjoy trying new products all the time, but sometimes, it can get overwhelming with so much product being sent by so many brands that I have to put some aside to try later. If I don't get to it within six months, I decide it's time to go because, otherwise, everything gets cluttered. I have a beauty cabinet at home. I had an organizer come over and help me do it! It's sectioned off by body butters, face serums, masks—any category that falls under beauty in my office. Then, in my bathroom, I have mini versions of the same products so I can grab which ones I'd like to try or refill what I've already used.

With only five minutes to spare before you head out the door, what beauty must-haves are you taking with you?

I'm always taking a lip balm (specifically Rhode), sunblock, sunglasses, and a nice bottle of water with lemon to help me stay hydrated, and I use a little electrolyte powder to amplify it a bit. The last thing I always take with me is a hand cream. I really love Chanel's La Crème Main! It looks so chic when you pull it out of your bag and smells great.

Are there any underrated products you're loving right now?

I don't know if it's necessarily underrated, but I love red-light therapy. I lie down in my bed before I go to sleep and have this whole shield across my face, and I really love what it does to help keep the skin younger looking and rejuvenated. If I've had any breakouts, it helps to calm down any hyperpigmentation that may form afterward. I feel like it's kind of hyped, but it's something I love.

Could you break down your haircare and styling process for us? How do you protect it while working out?

When I'm working out or not on set shooting, I always try to do the least to my hair. I love using masks and hair oils. I'm a big fan of K18 Hair because they have amazing products for masking your hair! I just put in a bunch of my favorite products and tie it in a bun to lock in all the moisture. The other thing I've been really strict on myself about is getting trims often. In the past, I've fallen off of that, and I would just let my hair grow. I find that my hair is a lot stronger and looks healthier when I'm getting all those dead ends off.

You've been embraced as an It girl on TikTok over the past couple of years. How would you describe your everyday approach to beauty and style?

My everyday approach to beauty is enhancing my natural features and finding those little things that make me special. When I watch beauty tutorials on my makeup looks by other people, they often try to just copy what I'm doing, but that's not always necessarily the best thing to do. I think you should look at my videos, take your pieces from it, and spin it in a way that fits your face. For example, if my contour is sitting up here because I have a higher cheekbone, that doesn't mean yours needs to be there. I think it's really all about looking at yourself and figuring out the parts of your face that can be enhanced.

I take a very classic approach when it comes to fashion. One thing I always say since it's been installed in me since I was younger is to never follow trends. A lot of the time when you follow trends, you'll look back five years from now and wonder, "What was I thinking?!" I stay true to a really timeless style, which allows me to never look back and question the fashion decisions I've made in the past. I really gravitate toward classic suit blazers, nice trousers, a good belt, and having staple jewelry, which is so important to help pull an outfit together. You can have the simplest outfit on, and if you also have fabulous earrings, you look so luxe and chic.

We can never get enough of your "get ready with me" videos, luxury shopping hauls, and photo shoots. What message do you hope to impart to your viewers and followers?

When people look at my content, I want them to feel inspired. About [my recent] luxury haul in particular, I had no idea the effect it would have on people. They instantly went out and treated themselves to amazing products! I love to be an inspiration and push people toward things that they would never ordinarily do for themselves and become what they didn't think they could be. I also hope I can inspire people with their style and health journeys!

I just posted about the Pressed Juicery juice cleanse that I did, and so many people responded to that saying that they wanted to step their game up and start the year off right. There were so many benefits to that cleanse! It helped with bloating and made my skin so glowy. I also hope that … the workout and fitness routines I post … can also inspire people to feel good inside and out.

How has becoming a mother shifted your self-view?

It has made me more aware of a lot of things than I was before. It's made me become a lot more healthy because, of course, I want to give my daughter the healthiest options for when she's eating and when she's out and about to avoid chemicals. My approach to health and wellness has grown and improved with her in my life, which has been really interesting and fun. I love having a lot of positivity around her, so in my daily life, I try to remain super happy and positive all the time, which I have always done. Now, I think about creating a safe space and energy for her. It's been the best journey ever! She's the sweetest, cutest little girl, and I just can't wait to be her mom for the rest of her life.

What are some things you're looking forward to in 2024? Are there any projects you can share with us?

My day-to-day consists of my activewear brand, so I'm really excited for the future of that and have a lot of exciting things coming. We're still a really small team, so it's fun! I'm wearing a lot of hats, so it's nice to see everything coming to life, and all of the aspirations and dreams I had for the brand are really starting to form.

What would be your biggest piece of advice to someone hoping to emulate your lifestyle?

It would be to surround yourself with a good group of people. I love my friends so much, and they're all really inspiring to me. Having people that inspire you is amazing since it pushes you to be the best version of yourself and encourage you to celebrate yourself. That was kind of the meaning behind [the TikTok luxury haul]—do something nice for yourself for working so hard. There's a way to have a luxury lifestyle without spending thousands of dollars on things. You can save up and buy yourself a nice jewelry piece. Be proud of that and look in your closet and realize, "Oh my god, this makes me feel so special."

Could you share your signature nail color and shape?

I'm a nude girl! You will very rarely see me with any color because it's all about the nudes, which leads me to say clean, beautiful, nude nails are in. Someone commented the other day asking why I keep posting my nude manicures since it's nothing special, and I was like, "It's special to me!" I think a mix of Bubble Bath and Put in Neutral with a soft almond shape is so nice.

What is your current workout regimen? Do you take any supplements?

I take magnesium, vitamin D with vitamin K mixed in, and electrolyte powder every morning. My workout regimen is a mix of Pilates and weight training. I love feeling super strong and really toned, and that's what I get from the weight training, but I also love the stretching aspect and targeting those tiny little muscles with [reformer] Pilates. My friends always ask me how I get my butt to be high, tight, and really firm, and I always say you have to lift the weights—squats and deadlifts! A lot of girls are scared of that, and I think it should be embraced, even if it's just twice a week. Try it!

How do you take care of your skin after your workout sessions?

Once a week or once every two weeks, I love to use Korean skincare mitts that you put on your hands. You get in the shower and let the shower steam and soften your skin for about five minutes using no soap or anything. And then you scrub your skin with this little mitt and see the dead skin roll off. I actually started using it when I was pregnant because my skin was really dry. Now, I'm obsessed with it because so many of my creams and oils are able to penetrate my skin much better. I also love sugar scrubs and using anything that smells fresh and nice and makes you feel like you've just stepped out of a spa.

Speaking of fragrances, do you have a signature fragrance right now?

I switch all the time! I really love Byredo fragrances and have a few different ones I wear from them. My current one is Bal D'Afrique, but I switch it up depending on where I'm going and what I'm doing.

Do you have any secret beauty hacks you could spill?

Color correcting and using things to help my concealer shine brighter and combat uneven tones of skin. You know what I feel like people don't do a lot that makes such a difference in makeup? Simply curling your eyelashes. It's a step a lot of people skip, but I see such a huge difference with that. I have the thinnest eyelashes on Earth, and it helps enhance them. I've also been hooked on brown mascara lately because it looks so soft and subtle.

Let's talk about your gorgeous wedding style. How did you envision your bridal look, and what did it take to bring it to life on your big day?

My starting point was working with my makeup artist Leah Darcy. We really wanted to take a classic, beautiful, and soft brown-toned look and perfect it! I love a brown eye shadow, so we hunted down the best shade. I had a lot of Pinterest boards for my wedding, but for my makeup, I just wanted to do something that made me look and feel my best. In terms of my hair, it was just about letting my beauty shine and keeping it off my face.

For the dress, my Pinterest board was filled with really iconic wedding dresses like Grace Kelly. I wanted something really timeless and that spoke to my personal day-to-day style or something that my daughter could wear in 20 years that would look just as beautiful. It took us a year to plan the wedding, and I was very particular about every aspect of it. When we met the wedding planner, we hit the ground running with our vision! Every time I see my wedding pictures, they make me so, so happy.

As an older member of Gen Z, I'm in the unique position of being able to lean into either Gen Z or millennial beauty trends and aesthetics. I was lucky enough to experience the cultural reset that was Anastasia Beverly Hills eye shadow palettes, but I also landed on the Gen Z side of TikTok trends—like the center part vs. side part debate, cherry-cola lips, and Hailey Bieber's glazed-donut nails. Of all the aesthetics that I've come across since using TikTok, however, only one has borrowed the ideas, practices, and lifestyles of the past while leaning heavily into the future: an aesthetic dubbed "quiet luxury."

Despite the nonstop debate over the veracity of its title and how it differs from the similar and extremely popular old money aesthetic, there's something about it that maintains a vice grip on its Gen Z audience. 

What is quiet luxury, and why can't the beauty industry get away from it? Quiet luxury is essentially another descriptor for elevated basics. In the beauty realm, that means a silk pillowcase to keep your skin and hair protected during your eight hours of beauty sleep, a red lip that can be trusted to complement your complexion year-round, or a fragrance that emulates refined sophistication.

Taking a peek at the TikTok videos associated with the aesthetic reveals its underlying traits. These videos are all about elevated basics across beauty and fashion, the idea that taking advantage of life's simple pleasures can be, in itself, luxurious, and how important it is to know one's self-worth. Searching the term brings up thousands of videos with an accumulated 309.8M views. But if you venture to look up the term followed by "makeup," that number jumps to a jaw-dropping 567.8M views with a majority of them drawing inspiration from socialite Sofia Richie's bridal and everyday makeup looks.

While Richie has an undeniable pull on the aesthetic, from her signature slicked-back bun to her perfectly groomed brows, there are a number of other celebrities and content creators who could be credited for their contributions. Jasmine Tookes, Meghan Markle, Carolyn Bessette-Kennedy, and Rosie Huntington-Whiteley all make frequent appearances on social media platforms as inspiration for makeup, hair, fragrance, and general lifestyle content. Likewise, as with any TikTok aesthetic, there are particular beauty brands Gen Z gravitates toward that encapsulate the quiet-luxury aesthetic.

As much as these celebrities can be credited as cornerstones of the quiet-luxury movement, it's the content creators who are able to shape it into something new. These content creators portray an accessible quiet-luxury lifestyle and have access to products from beauty brands closely associated with the idea of luxury. The products that help people achieve salon-worthy strands or a low-maintenance yet high-impact manicure all share a common goal: to deliver luxurious results with each use while looking the part.

Take, for example, some of the most popular items used by content creators and celebrities alike in beauty content posted on TikTok. Can you spot the commonalities? Besides minimalistic, neutral packaging and a somewhat hefty price tag, it's the brand names that remain most recognizable—think about heavy hitters like Chanel, Nécessaire, and Laneige. These products can be spotted in the oversize marble showers, heavily populated vanities, and heritage-brand makeup bags of several of TikTok's biggest users associated with the quiet-luxury aesthetic, including those who haven't even built their audience with the ultra-niche trend in mind.

Meet Akilah Releford Gould: content creator, founder of Mary Louise Cosmetics, and the personification of a quiet luxury–inspired lifestyle. Yes, it could very well be said that Gould is no stranger to the finer things in life (her highest-viewed videos detail preparations for her lavish may 2023 Martha's Vineyard–themed wedding), but the entrepreneur also recognizes the power of finding luxury in the everyday beauty practices at the heart of a healthy lifestyle. Unlike a number of the small and large creators who have formally recognized the aesthetic as their claim to fame, Gould has remained true to her roots, acknowledging the influence of luxury products without categorizing herself as a quiet-luxury creator.

I connected with Gould to learn her thoughts on the TikTok-driven quiet-luxury aesthetic, her approach to content creation, and the must-have beauty products that keep her feeling and looking luxurious through every season of life.

You're a content creator praised for your elegant style and founder of the skincare line Mary Louise Cosmetics. What was the inspiration behind the brand?

I launched it during my junior year of college at Howard as a pre-med student. I pivoted after its launch and came back to L.A. (where I'm from) to focus on the brand full-time. This was during the boom between 2013 and 2015 when everyone on YouTube was doing DIY skincare, and I was completely obsessed with it!

I have really dry, eczema-prone skin, so I was making face masks and creams to try, and one of the girls on my dorm floor asked if I was selling it. The premise of the brand is reviving older beauty rituals of the past in new, fun, and fresh ways for Gen Z and young millennials. It's taking all the things we loved about the beauty rituals the women of our family taught us and reengineering those for the future.

Recently, there's been an uptick in searches for the quiet-luxury aesthetic among social media users, especially on TikTok. What is your definition of the term, and how, if at all, does it apply to your lifestyle?

I think it's interesting because I was in no way intentionally trying to jump on the quiet-luxury trend. My wedding just happened to be at a time that was really popular on social media! I think the wedding was grouped into people's idea of what quiet luxury is, whether that's their definition of what a luxury-driven wedding would look like compared to something else or the style of dress. Certain beauty products and brands have definitely played a role in the aesthetic since people will select what they think pertains to it.

Right now, I like to think of it as valuing quality over quantity. It may not be the amount of something you show, but more highlighting or prioritizing one of something that is super special. My personal idea of luxury still goes back to quality, but anything can be luxurious. Having access to water bottles is luxurious for some, while going to the mall on a Monday and having a solo lunch can be luxurious to others. For me, something doesn't have to be designer or expensive to be luxurious.

Your "get ready with me" and "come along with me" videos often double as beauty-maintenance vlogs. How would you describe your approach to maintaining everything from skincare to haircare?

My mom has played a huge part in how I approach beauty and is an inspiration to my skincare brand's mission of reviving older beauty rituals. From a young age, simple habits like washing your face every night to carefully removing makeup from the eyes are taken from my mom. It's as simple as going into your bathroom, lighting a candle, putting on your favorite pajamas, and doing a full skincare routine. It's less about the product and more about the ritual itself that feels luxurious.

How did you put together your timeless TikTok-viral bridal look?

The inspiration behind the entire wedding look was Cape Cod and Martha's Vineyard vibes. The first vacation I took with my now husband was to Martha's Vineyard, and it was the place where we fell in love. It was also my first chance to explore New England, which is where he's from. I've always loved clean lines on a wedding dress for a timeless look, especially when it includes a bow. I mean, I had this huge one on my shoulder!

I wanted something I would look back on 20 years from now and still think it was the right choice. I knew that if I went with anything trendy, I would regret it and question why I wore it. I wanted a makeup look and dress that would make for good wedding photos forever. Both my wedding and reception dresses fell into a retro, nautical aesthetic.

When it came to your big day, you worked with a talented beauty team to bring everything to life. What was that experience like?

I have a mood board for every single thing that goes on in my life! I probably have 50 different active Pinterest boards. When I got engaged, I put together one for the wedding. The inspiration behind the hair was a throwback Chanel supermodel look with swoops, curls, and bounciness like a Karl Lagerfeld muse. For the makeup, I didn't want to do anything too heavy that would look [good] during the daytime and could also be worn at night during the reception. So I went for a '90s brown makeup look for a Black girl!

Are there any luxury beauty products you swear by?

I have so many, but I've had to redo my entire body and skincare routine because I'm pregnant. I'm still finding new luxury items that are okay to use, but right now, I love Nécessaire's Bergamot Body Wash, Make Up For Ever's foundation, Chanel's Coco Mademoiselle fragrance (sometimes, I switch it with Le Labo's Thé Noir 29), and the 111Skin moisturizer. In and out of the shower, I love using the Mary Louise Miracle Serum. For hair, it's all about Oribe's dry shampoo.

What self-care practices do you hope to pass on to the next generation of beauty lovers?

Find the time to make your life luxurious. It's not even about the products! Take 20 to 30 minutes and put together your own self-care routine that you can do. The overall practice I want to pass down is taking pride in your self-care and grooming to make yourself feel your best. As a founder and entrepreneur, my schedule is different every single day, so I have to find time dedicated to my self-care routine. The routine I do at night influences my entire week since it can be customized with different products depending on what I need from it, especially seasonally. Making time for yourself is the best self-care practice I can pass down.

If you didn't know who Jasmine Tookes and Juan David Borrero were and saw pictures from their wedding over the weekend, you'd think they were actually royalty. But Tookes is a supermodel, and Borrero is an executive at Snapchat and the son of the new vice president of Ecuador. We think it's safe to say that her engagement ring was a good indicator that their wedding was going to be lavish.

Sure enough, the couple married in Quito, Ecuador, over the weekend in a flower-filled cathedral (the beautiful Iglesia de San Francisco), and the photos she posted to Instagram prove that the wedding was jaw-dropping, to say the least. Tookes wore a Zuhair Murad gown with a lace bodice and a detachable ball skirt with a long train that would make Kate Middleton proud. The timeless dress had long sleeves and a high neck, and it's sure to go on lots of bride's Pinterest boards from here on out. As a fashion editor, I spend the better part of my day researching trends. When it comes to outfit trends specifically, there’s one prominent look I’ve continued to spot throughout all of my sartorial explorations over the last few months: Okay, you may already know it (given that we've covered it in various ways before), but here it goes: a slouchy blazer, basic top, and blue jeans.

The cynic in me used to believe that asking a supermodel for their skincare tips was counter-intuitive because to be a model you must have amazing skin already, right? Well, in a word, no. The truth of it is that models at the top of their game are likely to have a whole team of people dedicated to helping them achieve that glowy complexion of dreams. Nutritionists, dermatologists, facialists, makeup artists… You name it, and they've got the best in the business on speed dial. Yes, with direct access to the very best skincare experts in the world, models are actually the perfect candidates for a chat about all things skin. After all, they're armed with insider tips and tricks to keep their skin looking its absolute best at all times—their job depends on it.

So when a chance came up to chat with supermodel Jasmine Tookes, I jumped at it, mainly because I already follow her on Instagram and am more than a little obsessed with her glowing complexion. Thankfully, Tookes obliged and was more than happy to spill the beans on everything from her current skincare routine to the best industry advice she's ever received. Keep scrolling for more.

Have you always had naturally good skin, or have you dealt with skin issues in the past?  

I have always taken very good care of my skin [ever] since I can remember. Since I am African American, I do tend to get hyperpigmentation, which is the one thing I have always had to fight with different creams to prevent an uneven skin tone.

What’s the best piece of advice you’ve ever received for achieving glowy skin?  

Hydration is key, whether that's drinking water or physically putting something on your skin. You want to make sure that your skin is always hydrated to give a luminous glow from within. Also, stay out of the sun! It can really damage your skin and create uneven skin tone. I use Hourglass's Equilibrium Day Fluid (£101) every day to protect my skin.

Could you break down your current skincare routine with us for morning and night?

I've been using the new Equilibrium Rebalancing Cream Cleanser (£52) from Hourglass Cosmetics. It just launched skincare, and I'm obsessed with the line. The cleanser leaves my skin feeling clean and fresh but still ultrahydrated. I follow that with the Equilibrium Restoring Essence (£64)—both day and night. Have you ever made any skincare mistakes in the past?

I definitely would say when I was younger, I liked to pick at things. But soon after, I noticed my hyperpigmentation to be much worse. Now I try to never touch my face, even if I have the smallest itch.

Let's talk makeup. Are there any products that you swear by for adding radiance to your skin?

Hydrate, hydrate, hydrate! I can't stress that enough. There is no magic pill to glowy skin. It all starts with you being consistent in your skincare/wellness regime.

Engagement news is my favorite type of celebrity news. I'm always curious about how they will make the announcement and, of course, what the ring will look like. In the case of Victoria's Secret Angel Jasmine Tookes, I was definitely not let down. On Instagram, Tookes captioned her photo: "Si, mi amor! We’re engaged!!!"

Her fiancé Juan David Borrero, who works at Snapchat, proposed with a giant engagement ring by Ritani. The brand shared the inside scoop on the ring in a statement: "The ring features a 7-carat oval-cut diamond set in 18kt yellow gold.
