Simon Porte Jacquemus knows how to put on a show—and dress its viewers in the chicest way possible. The designer from the South of France debuted his spring/summer 2027 collection this week at Phare de la Pietra on the French island of Corsica and invited some of the most stylish women from his home country and beyond to watch from the front row. As for what they wore for the occasion, the best dressed among them seemed keen on donning one dress color and one dress color only: aqua blue, the summer shade that's been quietly taking over, replacing the likes of regal purple and butter yellow in recent months. It was all over the show venue, setting the tone for a run of dominance throughout the remainder of 2026.

The most prominent wearer of aqua blue was Alexandra Leclerc (formerly Saint Mleux), whose looks at Jacquemus shows get better every season. This time around, Leclerc wore an aqua-blue poplin dress with a V-shaped neckline and a draped bodice that cinched beneath the knee before poofing out in a mermaid-esque fashion. (See Look 5 from the show.) She paired the dress with light-colored accessories, including an ivory box bag with feather embellishments and a pair of white classic pumps.

Leclerc's dress was one of a handful of aqua blue pieces featured in the S/S 27 collection. There was also a strapless gown and matching headpiece in the shade, as well as a voluminous skirt and pair of ballet flats. Clearly it's making the rounds. She also wasn't the only attendee who wore the color, with others like Ro Brahmand and Quenlin Blackwell also picking dresses in a similarly vibrant and summer-ready shade.

What stood out even more than aqua blue's presence at the show, though, was its versatility, particularly when it came to shoe styling. Often with bright color trends, there's really only one shoe color that looks best with it—notably black. However, with aqua blue, there's no reason why someone wearing the hue should avoid experimenting in the shoe-color department. For instance, while Blackwell and Brahmand chose black heels, Leclerc took another approach, opting for white heels. In the show, models donned coordinating aqua-blue footwear, as well as baby pink and yellow.

As a result, aqua blue becomes a no-brainer dress color for summer weddings. You can wear it to multiple ceremonies, easily changing up the look with different footwear. So what are you waiting for? We may be barely halfway through summer 2026, but Jacquemus is already shaping what next summer's style will look like. The designer famously stages his runway shows in striking locations, and this time was no different on the French island of Corsica. Actually, several key 2027 trends appeared throughout the collection, indicating where style will be heading next year, like the specific way everyone will be styling skirts—i.e., with a coordinating bra top to make an effortlessly elegant warm-weather outfit.

Skirt Sets

The Jacquemus show just declared the number one way that the fashion crowd will be styling their skirts come next spring and summer: via matching sets that feature a midi skirt with a coordinating bra top. The collection featured several such looks with basque-waist balloon-style skirts and minimalist tops. They arrived in airy white and coastal-inspired striped iterations.

The It Colors to Know: Turquoise and Rust

Color has always been at the core of the brand's DNA, and we were delighted to see that a tight edit of bright, saturated color provided a pop against the largely ivory-toned collection. Turquoise and burnt orange were the specific hues that jumped out, and Alexandra Leclerc even made the case IRL wearing look 5's aqua-colored dress to attend the show.

Sheer Looks

Sheer dressing was another major theme on the runway, but instead of completely see-through fabrics, airy dresses were cut from an organza material that lent a slightly subtler translucent effect.

A Preview of Next Summer's Silhouette: Scoop Tanks

The collection highlighted the importance of one specific summer wardrobe basic: the scoop-neck tank. Effortless and elegant, several of these tanks featured on the runway were in relaxed silhouettes, styled with voluminous skirts and trousers. If there is only one thing you take away from this show, it should be to incorporate one of these sophisticated tanks into your wardrobe without wait.

Ballet Flats With, Well, Everything

Sorry, sandals, but according to this runway, ballet flats may be the only shoes you need to have for a strong vacation wardrobe. Pretty ruched flats accompanied every look that the designer sent out, from glam sequined dresses to sheer looks, cementing them as the shoe of the summer.

Good news for retro-sneaker lovers: Nike has officially entered the 2026 chat. Earlier this year, Nike rereleased one of its beloved archival styles from 1971: the Moon Shoe. It followed the release of two collaborations with Jacquemus (a designer collab being a telltale sign of a new It sneaker). The retro track-style sneakers have gained a fast following among the fashion crowd and celebrities (Dua Lipa and Lisa included), and Rihanna is the latest to be photographed wearing the shoes.

While out shopping in Beverly Hills this week, Rihanna wore the pink iteration from the Nike x Jacquemus collab. They’re only available on the resale market now, but the non-collab Nike Moon shoes are an excellent alternative (and are just as buzzy). The current colorways include butter yellow, white, navy, and chocolate brown. But I will warn you that they’ve been selling fast as well. An F1 friend of mine messaged me the other day asking me what she should wear to the Monaco Grand Prix this weekend. My immediate response was to pack at least one white dress. They're easy, versatile, and elegant. Plus, It girls in Monaco love them—Alexandra Leclerc included. What I failed to pass along to said friend was the importance of footwear—good footwear—to elevate simple white dresses from just pretty to downright perfect. Leclerc, on the other hand, got the message loud and clear.

On the Friday of her first Monaco Grand Prix weekend as a married woman, Leclerc arrived in the historic paddock in Monte Carlo wearing Jacquemus from head to toe, including, yes, a white dress, as well as a mint-colored small Valérie bag and matching mesh ballerina pumps. A white dress with black heels is a fine combination—tried and true even—but you can't say that Leclerc's look would make as strong of an impact as it did if she wore black heels instead of the mint-colored pumps she ultimately chose. By opting for mint shoes, she brought something as timeless as a white dress into 2026, making it feel of-the-moment and different.

The color trend is rising the ranks in fashion this year, with brands like Saint Laurent, Manolo Blahnik, and Herbert Levine all leaning into mint footwear right now with much success. In the ready-to-wear space, the soft, summery shade is likewise gaining popularity, with sightings at Chanel's, Prada's, and Tom Ford's recent runway shows. For a subtle, chic take on the trend, though, a pop-of-color shoe will always be the way to go.

The weekend is just getting started, meaning that this is only the first of many Leclerc outfits during the many race activities to come, especially since this is her husband Charles Leclerc's home race. To celebrate Who What Wear UK's 10th birthday, we had to take a look back at the most iconic fashion week moments that have captivated us over the past decade. Over the years, we've seen it all, having attended countless runway shows in London, Paris, Milan and New York, reviewed numerous collections and revelled in (and shopped!) the biggest trends each season brought. What fun!

Our all-seeing fashion eye has picked apart every show from 2015 till now, and we've curated the best-of list. From the return of '90s supermodels at Versace to an endless pink runway at Jacquemus and seeing double at Gucci, there have been so many jaw-dropping moments, but only 10 could make the cut. It's not up for debate: these are the 10 most iconic runway shows of the past 10 years. Let's get into it!

The 10 Most Iconic Fashion Runways from the Past Decade

1. Chanel A/W 17

Karl Lagerfeld's tenure at Chanel delivered so many iconic moments, and one of the most impressive shows in recent memory was staged at Paris's famous Grand Palais. From a hyper-real supermarket to a man-made beach and an Arctic landscape to a Parisienne brasserie, nothing was too ambitious for Lagerfeld's wild imagination. Our favourite, however, was the space-station set for the women's autumn/winter 2017 show, complete with a Chanel-emblazoned rocket ship, which seemingly took off through the ceiling as models wore NASA-inspired looks. Think silver glittery boots, classic boucle twin sets and galaxy-print dresses as Elton John's "Rocket Man" played through the speakers. Beyond!

2. Versace S/S 18

Donatella Versace is undoubtedly one of the most legendary figures in fashion. For the House of Versace's spring/summer 2018 show, she honoured her late brother and House founder, Gianni, presenting a collection that played to his iconic prints, use of gold and sexy silhouettes; with a finale that saw a whole host of supermodels pay homage. Striding down the runway herself, Versace was joined by Carla Bruni, Claudia Schiffer, Naomi Campbell, Cindy Crawford and Helena Christensen, harking back to George Michael's hit song "Freedom! '90" and its accompanying music video, in which many of these supers featured. Nothing will ever come close to this heartfelt and special moment.

3. Jacquemus S/S 20

Simon Porte Jacquemus started his eponymous label in 2009, dedicated to his late mother. The virility of his designs skyrocketed him into mainstream popularity, with playful handbags, enormous hats and skin-revealing ready-to-wear. For his spring/summer 2020 show, the brand's 10th anniversary collection, Jacquemus staged a co-ed runway show within the lavender fields of the French countryside, a couple of miles from his childhood home. Models strutted down a seemingly endless carpet of fuchsia pink, flanked by rows of purple lavender—both hues are synonymous with the brand. Mixing colour-pop brights, muted neutrals, printed scenic landscapes and watercolour florals, the show and its collection were completely and utterly striking and cemented Jacquemus' place in the fashion, social and pop-culture spaces. Needless to say, we were tickled pink!

4. Loewe A/W 22

Since Jonathan Anderson took the creative director reins at Loewe in 2013, with a tenure lasting a whopping 11 years, things were never again the same. Embuing art, craft and high-concept design into all of his collections for the House, the Irish designer has not only become a (fashion) household name, but has managed to firmly place Loewe at the top of the list of the most desirable designer labels of now. For the brand's spring/ summer 2022 show, he employed surrealist shapes, extreme drapery, backwards-worn garments and high-shine metal breastplates. Accessories, too, tapped into pop-art themes, with heels resembling roses, birthday-cake candles and broken eggs. Not only was this collection extremely directional, forward-thinking and fun, but it was also super wearable. Kendall Jenner gave this it serious celebrity kudos when she was famously spotted in one of the jersey tank dresses, with an all-over digital print of fuzzy colours.

5. Miu Miu S/S 22

When Miu Miu launched its spring/summer 2022 collection, you couldn't walk a mile without seeing one of its looks on the cover of every magazine on the stands of your local newsagent or supermarket. The collection was applauded for its preppy suiting, poplin shirts, cable knits, pleated twill skirts and flashes of logo-adornded lingerie, many pieces of which were slashed and cut to show off abs, legs and undies, in typical bad-school-girl style. Mixing sexiness, structure, sportiness and pretty 3-D florals, this collection was a Miuccia classic. This is where the much-hyped New Balance sneaker collab was previewed, which has since become every influencer's favourite off-duty trainer of choice. Now, everyone, "Thank you, Mrs Prada!"

6. Bottega Veneta S/S 23

Matthieu Blazy had a brief but successful three-year stint at Bottega Veneta before moving to the powerhouse that is Chanel. His spring/summer 2023 show at Bottega was truly spectacular, tapping artist and architect Gaetano Pesce to craft a kaleidoscopic poured-resin floor and handmake around 400 unique chairs for guests, all of which have become collector's items. Some of the standout looks from the collection appeared quite simple and understated, but a closer look revealed many pieces crafted from soft, luxurious leather for a trompe-l'œil effect. Kate Moss's normcore outfit, consisting of a plaid shirt, white tank and jeans, also played with deception by tapping into the craving for quiet luxury at the time in an unexpected way. The look remains a mainstay on every fashion enthusiast's mood board to this day.

7. Gucci S/S 23

Only Alessandro Michele could send 68 pairs of identical twins down a runway. Yes, you read that correctly! Never one to miss an opportunity for theatricality and the wow-factor, Michele's time at Gucci was full of jaw-dropping moments that no one else could re-create if they tried (see the Aria, Love Parade and Cosmogonie collections). The Twinsburg show of spring/summer 2023 stunned guests and fans alike. Models took to the runway in typical Michele fashion (think decadent prints, pussy-bows, monogram handbags, '80s suiting and bucket-loads of sequins)—but double it. Only at the show's finale did the curtain rise to reveal the paired looks and their twin models, who came together in single file holding hands. Inspired by Michele's mother and her twin sister, this show was mesmerising and mind-bogglingly good.

8. Simone Rocha S/S 24

Simone Rocha debuted her eponymous line at London Fashion Week in September 2010. 15 years on, and the label is still one of the biggest, most exciting moments on the fashion month calendar, and always the hottest ticket in town. Known for her subversive yet pretty collections, full of pearl, ribbon and lace adornments, Rocha has become a celebrity favourite, with the likes of Alexa Chung, Bel Powley and Fiona Shaw lining up to wear her collections on the red carpet and have their turn on the runway for her. The spring/summer 2024 show featured pink roses throughout, some held by models and some sewn into the bodices of dresses. Sarah Jessica Parker wore a dress-and-coat ensemble from this very collection in an episode of And Just Like That..., further cementing Rocha's merit in the fashion sphere and wider public eye.

9. Maison Margiela S/S 24

Celebrated designer John Galliano's final show at Maison Margiela, after 10 years as creative director at the esteemed house, was the talking point of many a fashion and beauty group chat for weeks after it was presented. A little X-rated and a lot of exoticism (Galliano's potent combination), models danced, staggered and gingerly stepped through the underbelly of Paris's streets, inspired by the images of Hungarian–French photographer Brassaï. The haute couture spring/ summer 2024 collection featured corsets, sheer dresses and 1920s doll-like suits, with Pat McGrath's famous painterly makeup set with a spray lacquer to give a high-shine, glass-skin finish. Gwendoline Christie's marionette-like walk for the finale look was like poetry in motion. Truly unforgettable.

10. Saint Laurent S/S 25

Anthony Vaccarello has been nothing short of a hit-maker for Saint Laurent since his spring/summer 2017 debut, crafting a vision which is at once sexy, desirable and classic. It has become one of the most illustrious, trend-setting brands on the planet, and celebs and shoppers can't get enough. The spring/summer 2025 show meant serious business, with an array of sharp, exaggerated suits, complete with shirts, ties and '80s eyewear, resembling the brand's famed founder, Yves. Nostalgic but modern, dapper but wearable, stars such as Elsa Hosk and Rosie Huntington-Whiteley have since been spotted wearing these ensembles, fresh from the runway. Bella Hadid's black suit-and-tie combo was a standout, serving classic power suit. Hot!

If you're going to let anyone tell you or, better yet, show you what's cool right now, Jacob Elordi is your guy. Over and over again, he's proven himself qualified for this position, donning Intrecciato loafers on the red carpet and the latest It bag on the streets of New York City—before it comes out. With that reputation in mind, when I saw him wearing a pair of the just-released Jacquemus x Nike Moon Shoe sneakers in downtown Manhattan, my editor senses started tingling, a surefire sign that a new viral trend has officially arrived.

The sold-out sneakers were officially released in three colors—University Red, Noir, and Alabaster—on September 29 at Jacquemus.com, before they launched across SNKRS and selected Nike retail locations on October 6. All three colors flew off the digital and physical shelves, sending a flurry of interested buyers into a tizzy. Everyone in New York wants a pair right now, and unless they're willing to scour the resale market for their size and desired color, they won't be getting them anytime soon. What makes them so great, apart from them being a Jacquemus x Nike product, is their vintage aesthetic, low-profile silhouette, and weightless feel. Trust me, I own the same pair as Elordi, and they feel like you're wearing nothing.

The Moon Shoe style was originally hand-built by Nike's co-founder Bill Bowerman. They debuted at the 1972 U.S. Olympic Trials but were never manufactured. Though, iterations like the 1972 Oregon Waffle and 1975 Waffle Trainer were adapted from that first Bowerman design. Jacquemus bringing them back is, therefore, no small feat. Fans of the barely there sneaker have been waiting more than 50 years.

“Three years ago, when I visited the Nike archives, I first came across the historic Moon Shoe,” Simon Porte Jacquemus said in a press release for the sneaker. “I saw a unique, minimal running shoe that was both timeless and modern in its simplicity and execution. I knew it was an opportunity to create a new story and reshape it in the Jacquemus way.”

As for styling your pair (if you can get your hands on them), taking cues from Elordi is never a bad plan. He styled his red sneakers in a low-key cool way, with classic jeans, a vintage crewneck sweatshirt, an L.A. Dodgers baseball cap, and a fondant-colored Bottega Veneta Intrecciato oversize shoulder bag. Copy-worthy? I think yes. Lisa from BLACKPINK posted a photo of her wearing a pair—hers are black—with jeans on Instagram. Though, she opted for a plaid shirt as opposed to a sweatshirt like Elordi. I've also seen the red version worn with Still Here's similarly viral Sport Jeans in the color Pear, creating a truly perfect shade combination.

Clearly, my instincts were right about the Jacquemus x Nike Moon Shoe sneakers being the hottest shoe to hit NYC this season, putting all of fall's ballet flats, loafers, and boots to shame.

It’s my job to spot emerging cult-buys the moment they land, and this afternoon, my radar lit up when Jacquemus and Nike’s hotly anticipated Moon Shoes finally dropped on the Jacquemus site.

Marking the fourth footwear collaboration between the two powerhouses, the trainer reimagines the original Moon Shoe silhouette through a Jacquemus lens, nodding to the design’s racing origins whilst incorporating a ballet-inspired refinement. Complete with a low profile and ruched detailing, this silhouette taps into several of this season’s biggest trainer trends. Available in butter yellow, red and classic black, and priced at £165, this feels like the silhouette destined to take off this autumn.

Is anyone else still thinking of this "Bella Hadid in the South of France wearing Jacquemus" moment? It can't be just me. The barely-there makeup, classic chignon, and little black dress—every detail felt like the fashion equivalent of golden hour. It was one of those style moments that doesn't just live on your feed. It lingers in your mind and makes you want to book a flight, plan your trip, and romanticize every little thing in your closet.

While most of us aren't lounging in linen on the cliffs of Côte d'Azur, there is a way to bring a little of that Jacquemus spirit into your everyday wardrobe, and surprisingly, it starts at Nordstrom. I found pieces that perfectly capture that brand of effortless French minimalism: clean lines, natural textures, soft tailoring, and just enough skin. You'll never hear me say a bad word about black heels. In my closet live about 20 pairs of heels, and if I had to guess, I'd say that 85% of them are black. But just because they're good—timeless, versatile and easy—doesn't mean that you should only wear or buy black heels. There are other, more exciting colours to test out, and in France this summer, everyone seems to be in agreement that one shoe colour alternative to black is especially worth styling with white dresses. The hue in question? Burgundy.

For proof, just see some of the chicest looks from the Jacquemus show at the Palace of Versailles during Paris Fashion Week. In particular, both Laura Harrier and Alexandra Saint Mleux styled their white dresses with burgundy heels, a perfectly unexpected way to wear every French girl's favourite summer frock. Unlike black and white, which can end up looking harsh together, burgundy is softer and more natural, making it a prettier complement for bright white. Bonus points if your bag is burgundy too.

Specifically, Harrier and her longtime stylist, Danielle Goldberg, chose a textured, high-neck, sleeveless maxi dress from the French label, pairing it with a burgundy, leather top-handle bag and matching point-toe kitten heels with a delicate bow on the toe. She completed the ensemble with a pair of '90s-inspired black sunglasses.

You'll never hear me say a bad word about black heels. In my closet live about 20 pairs of heels, and if I had to guess, I'd say that 85% of them are black. But just because they're good—timeless, versatile, and easy—doesn't mean that you should only wear or buy black heels. There are other, more exciting colors to test out, and in France this summer, everyone seems to be in agreement that one shoe color alternative to black is especially worth styling with white dresses. Just as the leopard-print trend is reaching a fever pitch, another animal is already hot on its heels. Don't get me wrong—I don't see the trend going anywhere anytime soon and to be fair, I've personally invested in it myself, but this season, designers, retail brands, and celebrities alike are posing a united front on a new It print that feels like a fresh evolution of the animal-printed theme that we're seeing play out across fashion right now. With that, we're officially introducing zebra print as the "It" print to know for 2025.

With its graphic black-and-white stripes that go with all manner of neutrals and both gold and silver jewelry accents, I'd even argue that zebra is much easier to incorporate into your wardrobe and style than leopard print. The fashion world seems to agree here, as the print is suddenly popping up all over the market at retail favorites like J.Crew, Mango, and Zara. To be fair, Alaïa was one of the first to put zebra on the runway in a major way with a printed maxi coat in its fall 2022 collection, followed by Jacquemus, who dressed celebrities like Rosie Huntington-Whiteley in the print for its "La Casa" collection staged in Capri last summer.

The Zebra-Print Trend in Action

Alaïa, which is always one to set the trends rather than follow them, showed zebra print in its fall 2022 collection via a sweeping maxi coat finished with a fluted mermaid tail. The rest of the look was minimal—just a few silver cuff bracelets—proving just how little styling the print needs.

To celebrate its "La Casa" collection, Jacquemus staged another one of its destination runway shows in Capri last summer and zebra print featured heavily through accessories like belts, bucket bags, and mules.

The number one way the style set is embracing zebra right now? Through an animal-print skirt, like the pencil skirt style Rosie Huntington-Whiteley wore to attend the above Jacquemus show.

Although zebra print can seem intimidating to wear, it's actually a minimalist's dream print since it couldn't be any easier to wear with black-and-white staples.

While Alaïa and Rotate's outerwear made a case for a winter wardrobe with zebra print, there's something inherently vacation-esque about it, and I love the idea of mixing it with other colorful prints where zebra takes on the role of a neutral.

If you're going to test the waters, my suggestion is to opt for a pair of zebra-print shoes to accent just about any look.

Earlier this month, Jacquemus did what the French brand does best when it broke the internet with its F/W 24 runway show held in Capri, Italy, at Villa Malaparte, a picturesque compound on the Mediterranean. Founder and Creative Director Simon Porte Jacquemus's shows are always big—remember the lavender fields?—but given that this one marked the 15th anniversary of his namesake brand, this one was always going to be particularly special. That it was. With Jean-Luc Godard's film Le Mépris (which is known in the U.S. as Contempt and was also filmed at Villa Malaparte) as his inspiration; Dua Lipa, Rosie Huntington-Whiteley, Tina Kunakey, and, yes, Gwyneth Paltrow as his guests; and a dreamy selection of turquoise (and more) pieces as his latest masterpieces, Jacquemus's show was a hit.

Jacquemus isn't just great at producing a buzzy moment, though. The 34-year-old designer also has a knack for knowing what women want to wear before even they do. Extra-small bags, extra-big bags, and bubble hems are all examples that immediately come to mind, but there are certainly more—many, many more. If his most recent 47-piece collection tells us anything about what trend will get the Jacquemus treatment next, it's that turquoise is set to become 2024's next It color.

The fashion wheels are already turning in the direction of the vibrant, Aquamarine-esque shade, with even more momentum building from the beloved Instagram account Data, But Make It Fashion posting about the color in the days following Jacquemus's F/W 24 show. "Hearing turquoise was seen in 36% of Jacquemus' new collection," the post, which features a still of Sara Paxton in the 2006 cult-favorite film, reads. "Could this be the next color of the season??" Will I dye streaks of my hair turquoise this summer? Probably not. Am I tempted to buy the turquoise micro miniskirt that's currently on sale at Tory Burch right now? Yes, 1000%.

It's officially summer, well nearly, but holiday shopping is at the forefront of our minds, and although we're only halfway through the year, we've already uncovered some season-defining fashion trends for summer 2023. From cult-favourite sandals to statement sunglasses, this summer is already shaping up to be a stylish one, but if you are an accessory-minded shopper like me, there's one trend that you'll have found impossible to ignore over the last few months–raffia.

From Alberta Ferretti to Jacquemus, raffia has been big on the runway for the last couple of years, and some of this season's most coveted buys have been the raffia bags and shoes that infuse cool, directional design with low-key beach mentality. Think kicking back on the beach with an oversized sun-hat or treading through the sand in an espadrille. Sound good? Thought so. 

As soon as Prada's tote bags were introduced last year they were almost impossible to buy because they instantly sold out. (Don't worry, they're back this season in fresh new colourways, but still in equally high demand). And more recently, Sofia Richie Grainge was spotted with one on her honeymoon, and if that doesn't reaffirm a trend I don't know what does. Designers like Loewe, Khaite, and Bottega Veneta have also introduced raffia pieces that are selling out everywhere, but thankfully, you can snap up equally great finds at accessible price points too, so don't rule out COS, H&M and Zara quite yet. If someone were to scan the contents of your closet and your private messages, would they be able to tell if you had a specific affinity for a brand? My hypothesis is that everyone has at least one label (or more) they're obsessed with. Admittedly, this concept was only crafted from my own lived experience of the almost all-consuming relationship I have with one specific brand: Jacquemus. I shouldn't admit this, but I can't tell you how many times my loved ones have held back an eye roll because I can't stop rambling about another piece I'm coveting from the French label. Or how they've found me mid-scroll, looking through archival collections or trying to track down a vintage item multiple times. In short, I'm a simp for Jacquemus. 

But I'd argue that the grip this label has on me is rational once you're able to fully see the vision that Simon Porte Jacquemus has been able to bring to life through his work. Most may be acquainted with the label because of its buzzy accessories, but make no mistake, there's far more to this brand than its viral It items. Porte's work is captivating because he's been able to capture the fantasy surrounding French culture and weave it into ready-to-wear collections that are not only functional but are (for lack of a better word) super pretty.

Nothing displays that vision more vehemently than the brand's most recent Spring/Summer 2023 collection. It felt like the clearest culmination of the label's evolution over the past 14 years. But you don't have to take my word for it. I've dug into Jacquemus's recent collection to show why this brand has built a cult following. Plus, I've identified the key pieces needed to recreate the look off the runway. If you weren't a fan of the brand before, you're about to be. 

Before listing the key pieces I'll be shopping for to re-create the brand's looks, let's dig into the spring/summer 2023 collection a bit. Entitled Le Raphia, the show was held outside Paris to an intimate crowd of fashion insiders and celebrities. It was a fitting name for the show considering the fact that raffia pines rained down from above as over 54 looks made their way down the runway. According to what Porte told Vogue, the inspiration for the collection was that it was created for "the girls you'd imagine in Portofino or Capri."

While Porte may have been dreaming of the Italian coastline (which was visible through the usage of polka-dot prints and sunflower clip-on earrings), it still harkened back to the quintessential elements associated with this French fashion house. But what exactly are some of those key pieces that have made this brand what it's known for today? And how did Porte pay homage to them in the brand's S/S 23 collection? Keep scrolling as I break it down.

You can't speak to Porte's unique point of view regarding design without addressing one of the fundamental parts of every collection: tailoring. Ever since the brand's founding in 2009, the designer has always played with suiting in a jovial way that brings the couture elements of French fashion to the forefront without the stuffiness. For example, in the spring/summer 2023 collection, we saw women and men in classic linen suits adorned with raffia palm fringe on the runway.

Some suits had embroidered raffia at the cuffs, while others had skirts and tops made from raffia styled over the suiting separates. While the raffia appliqué pieces may be a bit too conceptual for most wardrobes, the suiting was strong enough to make a case for investing in the brand. Blazers featured off-the-shoulder cuts, woven fabrications, and ultra-flattering nipped-in waists that put Porte's complete knack for playing with hemlines out on full display. They reminded us that even the most functional pieces in our wardrobes could feel fun.

If you look through archival collections of Jacquemus, you might notice few and far-between denim separates on the runway. While that doesn't mean we haven't seen denim separates from the designer, the S/S 23 collection marked the first time we saw multiple runway looks centered around the textile. But even with the broader adoption of this fabric, these still weren't your typical pairs of jeans. For example, the ever-popular relaxed-fit silhouette was given that signature whimsical Jacquemus twist through dried wheat woven into the fabric to create the appearance of distressed denim that's been stitched back up again.

Though it's a small detail, it speaks to the larger heritage of the brand. Even if you look at past collections like the S/S 21 collection, L'Amour, which featured wheat sheaf beaded tassels on linen separates, it's clear that Porte has continually pulled inspiration from nature over time to transform everyday pieces.

Now we get to my favorite part... Jacquemus's bags. We can't talk about recreating the aesthetic of this brand without mentioning one of the accessories that put the brand on the map: the Le Chiquito mini bag. Released as a part of the brand's S/S 18 "La Bombe" collection, the bag became a huge sensation despite its tiny size. And since then, the brand has become the place for bag ladies (ahem, me) to find the next wave of it-bags for the season. While there's no shortage of newer noteworthy bag silhouettes from the brand, the one that felt the most relevant was the reintroduction of raffia bags in its S/S 23 collection.

Anyone following Porte's work for a while is most likely aware that this is not the brand's first foray into woven purses—the S/S 19 collection "La Riviera" featured an oversize and micro tote called "Le Baci" that had raffia fringe. The style may not have become as prolific as other styles, but respect must be paid to how Porte can turn even the most formerly "passé" bag styles into the season's must-have item. And on a personal note, not purchasing the Le Baci bag has haunted me for years, so you can understand why the reintroduction of raffia is riveting from my perspective. With the more contemporary takes on this bag style seen in the S/S 23 collection (in the form of shoulder bags and wicker baskets covered in raffia fringe), it's safe to say my FOMO around missing out on securing my own Jacquemus raffia bag can finally dissipate.

In my humble opinion, one of the most underrated aspects of Jacquemus's collections is the jewelry. Launched in 2020, the expansion into this accessories category hasn't been as buzzy as its bags, but it should be. The brand's jewelry offering has been slowly carving out its own space in the market, and that's even more apparent with the release of the S/S 23 collection. Unlike other demi-fine collections, the pieces are often more playful and androgynous in nature. For example, we saw a male model wearing a black linen suit styled with a choker with a hammered "J" initial on the runway this season. At the same time, multiple women were wearing oversize earrings in the form of sunflower-like clip-ons, single oblong-shaped silver earrings, and even colorful beaded hoops. Basically, eclectic jewelry was an inescapable part of the collection and is arguably one of the easiest ways to adopt the "Jacquemus" aesthetic this spring.

As previously mentioned, denim played a more significant part in Jacquemus's S/S 23 collection, and that influence wasn't limited to pants. We saw everything from denim handbags to slingback heels and, of course, outerwear. And while I'm usually not the biggest fan of denim, one look managed to convert me to the cause on sight (spoiler, it was the look above). The runway look featured a drop-waist denim and linen skirt styled with a cropped denim jacket with an exaggerated collar poplin top layered underneath. And it was, in many ways, a newer take on Porte's continued exploration of playing with proportions which have always used dramatic tailoring, sultry waistlines, and approachable fabrications to create ultra-flattering pieces that anyone would want to wear.

After scouring the archival collections, it's hard to deny how much color has played a pivotal role in telling the brand's story over the years. The brand's spring/summer 2023 collection is no exception to that long tradition. Almost every shade under the sun was represented in the clothing—from sunflower yellow to red chili pepper red to French lavender and bubblegum pink. But possibly the most noteworthy of all was the embrace of a sleek silver hue. While we've seen metallics dominate other designers' collections, no one made it look as cool as Porte did. Maybe it's that innate je ne sais quoi vibe, but my guess is the secret was all in the styling. One thing that's made Porte's collections so popular over time is how it's shown to wear some of the biggest trends through easy-to-follow formulas.

Jacquemus's runway collections typically always pair more "formal" pieces with "casual" things—a styling ethos fully embodied in the runway look above. The idea of wearing a metallic bottom may be off-putting initially. But after seeing how an embellished lavender crochet swimsuit was styled underneath an unbuttoned maxi metallic denim skirt, it's suddenly approachable. Like all of the brand's previous collections, its S/S 23 runway show proved that pulling off some of the brightest color trends all comes back to knowing how to style it effortlessly. And if you don't know how to wear it, its runway collections will show you the way.

What's another accessory that's weaved into the DNA of Jacquemus? It's woven oversize hats (excuse the pun). Much like the debut of the Le Chiquito mini bag, the release of the La Bomba Panama from its S/S 18 collection sent shock waves through the fashion industry. But what many might not know is how statement hats have been a signature part of the brand's offering from the start.

Two collections before that infamous spring 2018 La Bombe collection, we saw various styles (from boater to cloche hats) represented on the runway. And since then, almost every season has included some form of a head covering, including its S/S 23 collection. With this season, we saw a pivot from the bucket hats and kerchiefs seen in previous seasons into wide-brim cartwheel-shaped hats made from woven raffia and even raffia pines that resemble fringe. While the styles are arguably more dramatic than in past seasons, they feel as if they symbolize the brand's return to its roots.

After all, what other piece screams "Jacquemus" more than a sun hat?

In case it's unclear, most of Jacquemus's pieces (both in its S/S 23 collection and archives) tap into the idyllic fantasy surrounding a stylish person just basking in the sun wearing beautiful pieces. Nothing, in my mind, represents visually represents that aim more than the signature sultry maxi dresses that have become synonymous with the brand's image.

While Porte always pulls inspiration from various dreamy destinations worldwide, the designer has admitted to always reminiscing about his time spent in the summer as a child with his late mother in the South of France. His reverence for that time and the women in his life is ever-present in how he approaches dressmaking.

Porte's dresses often feature summer-ready fabrics (linen and cotton) in vibrant hues draped over the female form, tapered at the waist, and finished with slinky straps. This is a designer that you can tell loves women's bodies, and his dresses have become beloved among the fashion set for that very reason.

Last but certainly not least, you can't really have a complete spring wardrobe, or a runway collection for that matter, without footwear. Luckily for us, Porte also designs some of the low-key chicest shoes. In the S/S 23 collection, for instance, there was everything from kitten slingback heels to chunky clogs, and strappy sandals. But the details are what make Porte's footwear stand the test of time. For example, those aforementioned kitten heels are made special with the addition of mismatched circle and square appliqués that are directly pulled from the brand's 2016 resort collection. While the collection's strappy sandals feature an array of newer design elements, including vibrantly-hued straps, buckles, label-adorned hardware, and more raffia fringe.

Much like all of Porte's work, the footwear is indicative of this designer's ability to make consumers (and even window shoppers) feel as if they've been transported to a far-off destination without having even to walk a single mile. It's no surprise, then, why so many people have become stans of this brand—it does what fashion is supposed to do: transport us into a fantasy. I don't know about you, but I don't mind living in the beautiful made-up world of Simon Porte Jacquemus.

No matter how much I try to keep my legs bare and cling to my warm-weather wardrobe, the reality is that winter is well underway. Cozy knits and jeans have become my daily uniform once again. No matter how much I try to keep my legs bare and cling to my warm-weather wardrobe, the reality is that autumn is on its way. Before I know it, cosy knits and jeans will be my daily uniform once again. New-season knitwear is always the first thing to hit the shop floors in September, and right now, whether you're heading out to shop IRL or browsing online, jumpers and cardigans are available by the bucketload. Of course, whenever there's an influx of a certain piece, it's important to determine which styles are worth it. And that's where I come in.

Last winter, we saw the rise in popularity of the striped—or Breton—knit. Aided by influencers curating their monochromatic grids, American designer Totême created a cult following for a Breton sweater in any shape or form. Its oversized polo-neck sold out many times, but if you missed it the first time around, fear not—its back again this season. Thank goodness for boredom, because that's precisely how I ended up booking a weeklong trip to Italy. My idea of a vacation includes lying on a soft, sandy beach in a bikini doing as little as possible. After living in New York for almost a decade and battling against the snow each winter, I've done my part to actively avoid having to trapeze through slippery, slushy ice and polar vortex–level cold.
