One month ago, my boyfriend and I packed up our 500-square-foot Upper West Side apartment to move to Los Angeles, where a house double that size (albeit still with one bedroom) was waiting for us. Some among us are loyal to a specific candle scent in their homes and will never stray. I think we all have a Diptyque Baies, Le Labo Santal 26, or Jo Malone Pomegranate Noir devotee in our lives. And then there are others, such as myself, who are always on the hunt for the buzziest and newest-on-the-scene candles to add to our collections—in addition to the tried-and-true favorites, of course. As someone who purchases pretty much everything I own online, I place a lot of blind candle orders, but you'll typically find me searching far and wide for reviews before doing so. This time, I'm the reviewer.

I'm a luxury-candle aficionado, and there have been a few standout candles on my radar this year. Some are brand-new, and others have held on to their buzz. As you can imagine, I was more than happy to be a guinea pig and test them in my house, and in doing so, I have something to back up my recommendations. Among the highly coveted brands I tried IRL were Trudon, Loewe, Diptyque, Flamingo Estate, Le Labo, and LAFCO. Trudon Figuerie

Having one of the legendary French fragrance house's candles in your home is a signal of good taste, and the scents are as elegant as the vessels they're in. Many brands make their version of a fig-scented candle, but I've yet to encounter one that's anything like Trudon's newest release Figuerie.

My review: Trudon's Figuerie candle is far from the fruity fig candles you may be familiar with. It's an earthy, woody fragrance inspired more by the actual fig tree than the fruit itself. The prominent fig-leaf note is mixed with hyacinth, tasuki patchouli, and sandalwood, adding depth and a powderiness I didn't expect. This is fancy fig, through and through, and the sage-green vessel is stunning, especially when lit. It's a lovely option for the warmer months and is highly giftable, as everything Trudon makes is.

Diptyque Shiso and Rhubarbe

We all know and love Diptyque's iconic candle scents. Feu de Bois, Baies, Roses, Figuier, Tubéreuse… The list goes on. The wildly popular brand releases limited-edition scents throughout the year and occasionally adds to its permanent collection. The two I tested are permanent ones that Diptyque released to coincide with its new ribbed-glass vessels, which are stunning, by the way.

My Shiso review: I wasn't familiar with shiso prior to receiving this candle, but I'm happy to now be acquainted with it. It's a Japanese herb in the mint family that gives off a light, green scent with a hint of spiciness. Diptyque added almond notes to balance out the herbal scent. It's a very refreshing scent, which makes it ideal for summer. Because it's a bit subtle, I'd recommend burning it in a room that's on the smaller side.

My Rhubarbe review: Rhubarbe is a bit tricky to describe in a way that does it justice, but I'll do my best. This is a vegetal scent that's inspired by rhubarb stalks with a sweetness to it. It's in the green family, similar to Shiso and Figuier, but a bit stronger. It's combined with patchouli notes, which are very subtle. I've enjoyed burning this candle in the kitchen, day or night.

Loewe Pistachio

I'm not sure that any candle could appeal more to a fashion lover than a Loewe one. The glazed terra-cotta vessels alone are worth the investment, but the fragrances are equally special. All of Loewe's Home Scents are pure and concentrated. They're scents you'll notice in the air throughout the day, even when unlit. Pistachio is the latest to join the brand's lineup of found-in-nature candles.

My review: If you prefer gourmand candles, you're going to love Loewe Pistachio. It's creamy and sweet but not overpowering. There's nothing fake or cloying about it. When lit, it gives off a warm, milky scent, which I would've thought I'd prefer during fall and winter, but it hasn't been off-putting in the least on even 95-degree days. The only drawback is that it's almost too pretty to burn.

Le Labo Cyprès 21 and Ambroxyde 17

I find Le Labo candles to be among those with the best throw and most unique scents on the market, and they're housed in minimalist vessels that couldn't be chicer. Every time I try a new one, I claim that it's my favorite. It's also tricky to know what they're going to smell like based on their slightly ambiguous names, so you'll have to trust me when I say that Cyprès 21 and Ambroxyde 17 are two you won't regret adding to your collection.

My Cyprès 21 review: Based on the name and description of the candle alone, I assumed that Cyprès 21 would be undoubtedly wintery, but it's the freshest woodsy candle I've yet to come across, making it perfect for every season of the year. There's a bit of spice to it without the usual smokiness of woodsy candles. It's an incredibly relaxing scent and has turned out to be the one my husband keeps requesting we light. FYI: There's also a limited-edition version of the candle in a blue glass vessel, which is very giftable.

My Ambroxyde 17 review: I'm a huge fan of Le Labo's Another 13 perfume, and Ambroxyde 17 is said to be the candle version of that scent, so I ordered it sight unseen. It's almost impossible to describe the mesmerizing, complex scent, but the primary note is ambroxide, which is a synthetic version of musky ambergris. You'll also smell notes of jasmine and woods. Trust me—it's intoxicating.

LAFCO Midnight Cactus and Tomato Season

LAFCO is known for its distinctive hand-blown glass vessels and candle scents designed for every corner of your living space and every occasion. You'll get many hours (90, in fact) out of the clean-burning, high-quality candles. LAFCO routinely adds new scents into the mix, and I opted to try two popular additions: Midnight Cactus and Tomato Season, which couldn't be more different from each other.

My Midnight Cactus review: With top notes of prickly pear and wild raspberry, Midnight Cactus is subtly fruity. I say subtly because it's balanced out by notes of amber, cactus blossom, rose, cedar, and musk. It's a highly versatile scent that makes sense for any season and any time of day. It's a calming, well-balanced scent that's creamier than most fruit-forward candles. A+.

My Tomato Season review: First of all, let's take a moment for this stunning red-and-white vessel. Tomato candles are certainly having a moment, but a few that I've had are just too vegetal and, well, literal for me. That's not the case with Tomato Season. It greatly benefits from the addition of basil, citrus zest, sage, and cucumber. The herbal notes add depth to the fresh tomato scent. It's the perfect candle for a hot summer day.

Malin + Goetz Strawberry

I find something very appealing about candles named simply after a single fragrance note, as Malin + Goetz's are, but contain complementary notes that enhance the primary one.

My review: There's nothing cloying or artificial about this strawberry candle, which is a far cry from the fruity ones I favored at the start of my candle obsession many years ago. In the minimalist, classic glass vessel is a fresh, reimagined version of strawberry with notes of bergamot, jasmine, musk, and pink pepper. The resulting scent is bright, happy, and unique.

Flamingo Estate Prinsesstårta

Flamingo Estate is a newer entry on the luxury-candle scene but has quickly risen in the ranks thanks to the array of lovely, garden-inspired scents that'll transport you to another place. I've tried a few candles from the Los Angeles–based brand, all of which are exceedingly lovely, but Prinsesstårta intrigued me the most.

My review: Prinsesstårta is a departure from the aforementioned garden-inspired scents that Flamingo Estate is known for. The limited-edition candle is actually inspired by the famous Swedish Principessa Cake from Sant Ambroeus in New York. To create the scent reminiscent of the lemon, almond, and vanilla flavors of the cake, Flamingo Estate used notes of amber, oakmoss, cinnamon, heliotrope flower, and lemon peel, to name a few. It's a decadent scent that isn't heavy or overly sweet. It's one you just need to smell to truly understand it.

Sidia Braless

I kept coming across Sidia Braless products and obviously needed to see what the hype was all about. Sidia's fragrances are named for states of being, so that should tell you something about Braless before your nose even does.

My review: The name of this candle may be slightly vague, but the scent certainly is not. If you like warm, smoky, woodsy scents, you'll love Braless. With notes of leather, musk, patchouli, vanilla, and black pepper, among others, it's an excellent candle to enjoy with the beverage of your choice at the end of a long day. It's a sexy scent that truly thrives during cozy fall and winter nights.

Baobab Collection Tournesol Girasol

Baobab Collection makes some of the most beautiful candles on the market, hands down. Each of its vessels is practically a work of art. Each year leading up to summer, the brand introduces a highly anticipated hand-crocheted, raffia-wrapped candle. I was lucky enough to get my hands on this year's iteration, Girasol.

My review: With notes of orchid, sea salt, and ylang-ylang, Girasol is one of the most floral-forward candles I tried. It's exactly what a summer floral candle should look and smell like. It has a strong throw and is successful at eradicating household smells thanks to its refreshing aquatic notes. A word of warning: It's quickly selling out.

A doubt crosses my mind: Does any of this actually go together? But also, does it go with me? With my style, my personality, the way I dress? Because all of this carries meaning, a kind of logic that, in my line of work, has become essential now that journalism blends with influence, photography, embodiment.

I like to think there’s a secret dialogue between what we wear on our bodies and what we place inside our living spaces. Two expressions of the same identity. So how do you move from that feeling of disconnect (“I’m more bohemian than my apartment”) to something fluid and personal—a real harmony?

Here are a few ideas. Ones I’m hoping to test out alongside you.

Take Inventory

Before creating harmony, you have to know yourself. Take a sheet of paper (or your favorite notes app) and answer these three questions:

• What are the three words that best describe your personal style? (Minimalist? Rock? Bohemian chic? Preppy? Artistic?)

Moving to NYC as someone who loves space was, well, a choice (not my choice—it was my husband's—but that's not the point, and you're here to shop, not hear my whole life story). While I've adjusted to city life and wouldn't trade the restaurants, energy, and fashion for anything, moving from a 1920s Spanish-style home with a backyard into a square box in a new-build apartment complex was the hardest pill to swallow. But one thing about me? I'm an interior snob who refuses to sacrifice comfort or style—and I love a good challenge.

After sourcing finds from major home sites, the side of the road (shoutout to @stoopingnyc), vintage stores, and my neighbors' move-out sales, I've turned my small apartment into a sanctuary I actually look forward to coming home to. I may still hear a siren or two outside, but my space allows me to take a breath and relax.

When it comes to surviving New York City, the most important thing to me has been getting a good night's sleep. They say it's the city that never sleeps, but if I don't sleep, the chaos of this place will break me. If you ask me, H&M Home is a seriously underrated part of the cult retailer's business. Fashion people are very familiar with the Swedish brand's well-priced clothes, bags, shoes, sunglasses, and swimwear, but I have a feeling their online shopping carts don't include as many tables, cabinets, pillows, beach towels, vases, trays, and mugs. While it's not shoppable until September 3, the collab will be unveiled at this year's Milan Design Week with an installation open to the public from April 21 to 26. "Having a presence at Milan Design Week has long been a dream, and with Kelly, we knew the moment was right. There is a video of my old Brooklyn apartment, which I moved out of two years ago, on TikTok with over 2.5 million views. It's a quick video featuring snippets of my small apartment. There's a peek at my ruched hot-pink bedding, plant-filled bathroom, and (also viral) Luigi Massoni Dilly Dally makeup vanity. The video opens with a shot of my boyfriend asleep in our bed snuggling our pug, and an audio playing over it discusses how hard it is to decorate an apartment with a boy.

The key, the audio continues, is to just buy whatever you like and only let him know when it arrives. Thankfully, this has always been my strategy, and my boyfriend has more than happily obliged. I am obsessed with interior design, and when I hit my limit for scrolling on The RealReal, I turn to scouring the internet for special pieces for my home instead.

I've since moved out of the old apartment, which a lot of the internet saw, but my new apartment is even more special with nearly three times as much space. I was initially overjoyed at the prospect of having a room I could turn into a walk-in closet (any fashion editor's dream) and a real dining room table. But quickly, that excitement became daunting. I had to start mostly over, and when you care so much about design, it's tough to just settle. I always want to make sure everything I put into my space is something I'm deeply obsessed with.

So I did what any perfectionist would do and waited for months, doing extensive research before buying much of anything. This helped me really grow to understand my space and squash my impulsiveness. Instead, I narrowed in on a handful of beautiful items I knew I'd carry with me to every apartment, which hopefully the internet will grow to love as much as my OG place.

IKEA Fado Light

Lighting is really important to me, and I dislike overhead lights. When I discovered the Fado light from IKEA, I ordered multiple. My favorite, though, is this one with little pink stains along the side. It's the perfect light to put on the ground, and it illuminate my dining room at night without feeling too overwhelming. The pink accents add a really nice pop of color to the space and keep things playful.

I've always disliked overhead lights, but I'm now starting to realize it may be because I wasn't looking into the potential of everything they could be. Overhead lights can actually be fantastic if you find the right ones.

There's a small area in the entryway of my apartment that's extremely dark, and I've been struggling to find a way to introduce light in a way that didn't feel too stark. Then I saw this Lulu and Georgia light and knew it was perfect. I love how it has so much movement, and the shape reminds me of a handkerchief. It feels so fluid in a way that's unlike anything I've ever seen before. I particularly love that it'll be one of the first things people see when they enter my apartment. I can't think of something better to greet guests.

I think I've wanted a Louis Poulsen 160 Portable Lamp ever since I first laid eyes on one. I love retro-futuristic furniture and think it brings such a funky vibe to a space that feels distinct. I also think there's nothing cozier in an apartment than a bunch of tiny little lights all over the place. I placed this one over my Rocco mini fridge, and I genuinely feel like they were meant to be together. The red top is the ideal contrast, especially since the fridge itself is white. It reminds me of the chicest mushroom possible. The only thing that makes it even better is the fact that it's portable, and I often remove it from the top of the fridge when I'm working at my dining room table late at night but don't want the big light on. It's practical and beautiful. What more could you want?

Working in fashion means that I have more beauty products than I know what to do with. I wouldn't exactly be revealing anything new by saying that interiors and fashion are closely tied; they both reflect the wider culture, the mood of a season and of course, personal taste.

Whilst it might be silly—frivolous, even—to suggest you should change how your home looks every year or whenever a new trend rolls around, there are benefits to being abreast of the changing mood. For example, if you're renovating or decorating, it can inspire you far beyond a Pinterest board. It can also serve as an indicator of how you really want to live beyond just having a clean and comfortable home, and, most importantly, how you want to feel in your own environment.

So what are the core interiors trends of 2026? As ever, there are many! And naturally, they also reflect what's happening in fashion right now. After years of a quiet-luxury hiatus which celebrated all things minimalist, clean and pared-back, we're now entering a time of joy, colour and experimentation in style. The same can be said for our homes, with chintz, colour and vibrancy paving a new path after years of "vanilla girl" interiors dominating. Interior designer and model Flossie Hughes has observed a similar movement.

"One of the biggest shifts I’ve noticed is how much bolder people are becoming with their interiors choices. There’s a growing confidence in colour, pattern and statement materials. People are leaning away from overly safe or neutral schemes and are instead embracing spaces that feel personal and expressive. As many people have returned to the office post-lockdown, there’s a renewed desire to clearly separate home from workplace. Rather than defaulting to whites, greys and beiges (which are often seen in the workplace), people are opting for warmer, richer palettes and more character-driven interiors. The home is no longer just a neutral backdrop; it's becoming a sanctuary and a form of self-expression," she says.

In the same vein, we're witnessing a direct backlash to the clean girl: enter the "messy girl" era. When I scroll Instagram and Pinterest, I'm seeing more authentic, "lived in" environments instead of tidy (arguably sterile) and staged homes that feel photo-ready; products left out in the bathroom, desks that look like they're actually worked at and kitchens that one might use for cooking and eating (the shock!) are showing up much more in interiors content online.

Another huge trend in fashion is the comeback of boho fashion. Not just in its early 2000's "boho chic" iteration that was defined by Sienna Miller and Mary-Kate Olsen, but also in a way that feels much older, that celebrates folksy embroidery, earthy colours and natural fabrics. This very same thing is happening in our homes right now, not just with decorative items that feel adjacent to a folk aesthetic, but an emphasis on more natural materials and organic colour palettes.

Of this, Hughes says, "The interior design mood for 2026 is what I like to call the editorial interpretation of Mother Nature. We’re seeing the return of Earth’s raw, natural colours and materials, reintroduced in a far more elevated way as refined focal points rather than rustic accents. Shades like burgundy, teal and chartreuse are emerging alongside materials such as Calacatta marble, travertine, wrought iron and burl wood. There’s a clear emphasis on texture and depth, with finishes that feel considered and timeless rather than purely decorative."

That being said, there's also a place for those who lean more minimalist and look to man-made products. Stainless steel has prevailed as a key material in the home (not just in the kitchen) in recent years, and we've seen a notable return of glass tiles and postmodern furniture with plastic, fiberglass and chrome accents.

In essence, there's an eclectic mix of rising trends prevailing for 2026, and styles suitable for all tastes and home environments. Below, I've listed the seven I think are worth noting, along with homeware picks to help you bring them into your own space.

The 7 Biggest Interiors Trends in 2026

1. Folk Bohemia

Style Notes: In 2026, the modern-folk movement in interiors is a little like the boho revival we're seeing in fashion. A few years ago, the term "bohemia" from an interiors point of view might have conjured up images of rattan ceiling lights, whitewashed walls and crochet wall hangings reminiscent of holidays in Mexico and Bali. But now, this newer brand of folk style feels more artisan, cosy and eclectic. No longer just drawing from a neutral palette, this folksy iteration of bohemia feels joyous and colourful. Hughes best describes the modern-folk trend as a combination of "styles that create a very cosy and soulful space," as she says in one of her videos. "It incorporates a mix of wood patinas, earthy tones and artisan textiles, all of which add a lot of character to a room."

2. European Postmodernism

Style Notes: For a long while, mid-century modern was the trending era for antique furniture. Wassily chairs, teak sideboards and cane accents prevailed in the most stylish spaces. Now, however, there’s growing interest in postmodernist pieces from the '70s to the early '90s. From space-age fibreglass coffee tables to Mario Bellini sofas and Togo chairs, these are the trending pieces bringing in Feng Shui in New York, Paris and London right now.

3. Wood Accents

Style Notes: After years of harsher materials like concrete taking over surfaces and floors, wood is finally getting its moment. Adding warmth and dimension to any room of the house; be it in the bedroom with a mahogany headboard or a burl chest-of-drawers, in the living room with panelling and fitted shelving or in the kitchen with a reclaimed pine island or contemporary oak windows; wood, especially when antique and in a mix of finishes, is fast becoming one of the more popular materials in interior design this year.

4. Animal Print

Style Notes: ICYMI, animal prints aren’t just trending in fashion. From leopard to zebra, deer and dalmatian, we’ve noticed animal prints across all kinds of soft furnishings, like zebra rugs courtesy of Nordic Knots, cowhide tubular Bauhaus chairs and chaise longues and, of course, the occasional leopard-print cushion. These patterns look especially chic with the aforementioned postmodern-style furniture, for a cool and confident way to elevate a space, allowing you to experiment with print without becoming too maximalist (more on that below).

5. Stainless Steel

Style Notes: Unlike wood, stainless steel has a definitive man-made, industrial feel. It's affordable, durable and, in my opinion, gets better with age and wear. Stainless steel is a growing preference in kitchens for those who want a contemporary feel. Elsewhere in the home, it's popping up on occasional furniture and fixtures—think side tables and shelving—as well as postmodern accessories and details like fruit bowls, candleholders and coasters.

Whereas trends like chintz and folk bohemia feel warm and cosy, stainless steel is unmistakably cooler, and for me, this is its appeal. It works well combined with tiled or polished concrete floors and blends with modernist furniture and pops of colour. It’s also very '90s and early ‘00s, so if JFK Junior’s iconic Manhattan loft in Love Story is your vibe, then this is the material for you.

6. Charming Chintz

Style Notes: Maximalist to its absolute core, chintz is not for the faint-hearted. Whilst this vintage-inspired, frothy and print-heavy trend feels simultaneously dated and timeless, it’s currently enjoying a major moment. Hotels like The Rose in Deal and the recently revamped suites at The Dorchester in London celebrate swathes of fabrics adorned in floral prints, vibrant hues, moiré silk, fringe tassels and rich velvet.

Often considered kitsch, there’s a cosiness to chintzy décor that feels inviting. Whilst going all out with Bunny MacDougal-inspired dust ruffles and mallards isn’t a requirement, looking to occasional heavily printed furniture like pouffes, adding an accent wall of floor-to-ceiling patterned wallpaper or even sourcing a four-poster bed (I swear, they’re coming back!) are strong suggestions.

7. Girl Mess

Style Notes: This is probably my favourite trend from the list. After a long while of pristine homes that appear staged for social media, we've entered an era of more "real" or lived-in home environments. We could compare this to the demise of the clean-girl aesthetic in beauty; a desire for the more authentic realities of other people's homes is growing. Of course, these homes still feel beautifully curated, but instead of colour-coordinating your bookshelves or ensuring your beauty cabinet only contains perfectly organised Byredo and Aesop products, we're getting acquainted with "girl mess".

This is about kitchens filled with mismatched fabrics and trinkets that evoke memories of holidays, living rooms that look lived-in, with stacks of books used as side tables, open newspapers with a pen on the side to finish a half-done sudoku or crossword puzzle, as well as candles that have actually been burnt is the general vibe I'm getting from the interiors accounts I follow. So, messy girls, rejoice!
